It's Almost-Friday and Tempura Day. Birthdays: Zora Neale Hurston and Gerald Durrell. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing a dab of The Perfumer's Workshop Tea Rose for the song Young Americans, from the 1975 album of the same name.
Reminder: 1/8 is David Bowie's birthday. If you like, pick a favorite Bowie song and wear a perfume to match. Or, just wear a fragrance that you think fits with the occasion for whatever reason.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is detail from the cover of Young Americans.
Bonus watching (with apologies if you have to sit through annoying ads):

In Hermes Agar Ebene on this cold, but finally sunny day!
Drinking a cup of chocolate truffle black tea and two slices of italian bread with feta cheese.
Happy Thursday, everyone!
Mmm… Agar Ebene is my favorite Hermessence. You smell great.
Thank you! It is a gorgeous scent. Paprika Brasil is another favorite of mine, but I like the whole Hermessence line.
Your killing me with your delicious bread choices latley!
LOL! I am in a bread kick lately! Passing you some! ???
Yes, I agree with lillyjo – every day your scent choice, food and drink are all amazing! Yum.
Thank you! ?
yes to Hermes! you smell beautiful š
Thank you, Tiffanie! ?
Chocolate truffle sounds delicious!
It is! I am not a tea connoisseur, but the cocoa flavor with a touch of coconut is fantastic and the aroma is very uplifting.
I’ve had a few chocolate black teas, and when they are good, they are great!
So true! I am not a tea drinker, but I have had few chocolate teas that have been really bad.
Ugh, sorry to hear that. It is unfortunately possible to mess up things with chocolate.
You smell wonderful!
Thank you!
Mmmm bread and cheese…
Tea Rose! It has been years since I have even thought about that perfume. I remember wanting that one back in the day, but not having enough money to buy all the perfumes I wanted. I finally got a bottle of it years later and ended up swapping it away. It just didn’t suit me somehow.
No SOTD yet, I haven’t decided. According to my calendar, it is National Bobblehead Day, so if anyone has a bobblehead doll of David Bowie, they should get extra points.
I wish I had some original Chloe, because that would have been a better fit.
Tea Rose is such a pretty thing and SO STRONG to my nose. I use it in tiny doses or sometimes spritz it into the air where it lingers for hours. š
I used to spray a little on old school incandescent light bulbs sometimes, it smelled great that way.
I always liked tea rose, such a pretty little thing. I agree with Tiffanie, nuclear!

You enjoy them and report back!
And that’s a wrap! All of the 12 Days of Christmas freebies have now been claimed.
I really liked I Love New York For All but it never made it to South Africa and seems discontinued generally. Anyone have more info on it?
yay! for perfumed generosity š
It’s been fun reading these offerings!
You added a lot to the festive season, 50 roses!
Thanks! It was fun putting them together and fitting them to the 12 days theme.
Deciding to use some jo Malone samples, not a huge fan of this house but today I am in Basil ? & Neroli and I feel like spring on this cold day.
If there something I must smell from this house let me know.
Starting a YA series , Six of Crows since this and her other book will be a Netflix series this year.
I am thinking of an Italian idiomatic expression for the start of 2021 thus far.. ?
I don’t think any of the Jo Malones have really wowed me thus far, but a number of them fall into the category of “perfume to wear when you can’t decide what to wear” or “perfume to wear when you want to smell nice but don’t want to spend a lot of time thinking about it” or “perfume to wear when you want to wear perfume but don’t want to have any trouble with perfume-hating coworkers of relatives.” Simple, undemanding, but nice scents. I bought a 30 bottle of JM Orange Blossom when I was in the flagship Nordstrom in Seattle several years ago. I ended up draining that bottle fairly quickly. I found that I would often reach for it in the morning when I couldn’t decide on anything else. It just never felt wrong or made me regret having chosen it.
Yes, I heard about orange blossom being really beautiful.
I will try to sample that.
My SOTD falls into all of those categories you mentioned.
The OB is beautiful! Especially in the heat!
Perfect description of JM scents. I got bottles of Wood Sage and Sea Salt and Lime Basil Mandarin a few years ago. Went through my bottle of WSSS because it was easy to reach for and easy to wear.
L, one of my three trays of perfume is for office scents, and apparently my grab&spritz note is iris, no surprise there.
Orange Bitters is quite unique – a warm and warming citrus. Jasmine Sambac & Marigold also has a lot of personality! I also like Basil & Neroli a lot.
Basil and Neroli is easy to wear today. I have heard of Orange Bitters but haven’t tried it or the Jasmine one.
I second the vote for Orange Blossom. I also think most of the Cologne Intense collection smells good, but not good enough to make me shell out for a bottle. I got a bottle of the discontinued Orris and Sandalwood from a discounter, and itās an easy, peppery orris fragrance, but thatās the only JM I actually own.
My favorite JM is Pomegranate Noir. Have you tried it yet? It’s the only JM bottle I’ve repurchased. Also have the shower gel, bath oil, and body butter.
no, I haven’t tried that one yet.
PM is great. It’s got a fantastic dry pomegranate note. If you like cheap thrills, I like to layer that with Pomegranate Noir by Remedy Northwest. The company is discontinuing that scent, I think it’s 50% off, don’t know if the sale is still going on or not.
Sounds really beautiful!
Pomegranate Noir is great – probably one of the strongest scents in the line. The only other full bottle of JM I have is Nutmeg and Ginger which is now unfortunately discontinued. I lost interest in the line when they started churning things out one after the other.
I love Myrrh & Tonka, Orris & Sandalwood, Red Roses, Mimosa & Cardamom and Pomegranate Noir.
Seconding (or thirding) Pom Noir, Myrrh & Tonka, Jasmine Sambac & Marigold, and Lime Basil & Mandarin.
I’m wearing the last of a sample of L’Air du Desert Marocain. Luckily, I have a 5ml mini from Tauer’s mini collection, although I haven’t used it lately. It may have evaporated, which these minis tend to do.
Yeah, my mini evaporated really quickly it seemed.
I was just mentioning yesterday that my LADDM seems to have evaporated a bit, becoming darker and more concentrated. Perhaps a future split is in order…………
laddm is perfect! you smell beautiful š
I decided on Amouage Dia for SOTD. I had seen so much discussion about it the past few days and my bottle let me know that it was feeling neglected.
Dia is wonderful.
Adore Dia! What a beautiful scent!
You smell good! That was my scent these past couple of days…you smell good! One of my favorites that has stood the test of time (I often change my favorites).
It’s snowing all day but it’s all melting as soon as it hits the ground. There’s only a little white blanket visible on tree branches and on the grass.
I’m in Hiram Green Arbole for that jammy warmth that I love.
Ooh yes, thatās a good one!
Yes!
Thanks for the reminder! I need to bring Arbole Arbole to the front of my cabinet. I have not worn it in a long time!
It’s a beautiful perfume for a colder season, isn’t it?
I’ll be finally receiving my Hiram Green set today in the mail – not sure if Arbole is part of it, but looking forward to trying what I’ll get!
Hopefully you’ll have a lot of fun with them! I like quite many in the range.
Iām in Dune and pairing it with Space Oddity. Such a great song.
Today is my Saturday and this afternoon I am getting a much needed haircut. Itās been a few weeks and the ends are getting a bit scraggly. As some of you may or may not remember, I broke up with my long time hairdresser about a year ago. And by break up, I mean I just stopped going to her. That is how one breaks up with their hairdresser, right? She was a very skilled stylist but I felt like she had gotten to the point where she was cutting my hair how she wanted it to be, not how I asked it to be. Anyway I searched and researched salons looking for a new stylist and found a girl that specializes in bobs, among other things, and checked out her stuff on Instagram. She is excellent. Well, she left her salon and opened her own private salon January 1 and I get to be one of her first clients. Iām excited to see her new place.
In other exciting news, Iāve bribed…I mean talked my college girl into staying home til February 1 when classes start again.?
Madtowngirl, I did that with a stylist too, after 15 years. She stopped listening. After five haircuts and colors that were exactly what I asked her not to do, I just gave up. Maybe she got bored. But it’s so expensive, and who has the patience to try to stick with someone who stops listening? Not moi. Still feeling a bit guilty, but my new stylist is much more responsive.
Ditto!
Yeah, I felt guilty too because I really liked her as a person and over 10 years we had built a relationship….but ultimately I didnāt like how she did my hair anymore so, time to move on. I love the new stylist I found.
Dune is a great match! Good luck with the haircut!
Thanks lillyjo!?
Space Oddity is one of Bowie’s best. Nice pairing š
Thanks tiffanie, I thought they went well together.?
How did the haircut turn out? And what was the new private salon like?
Great! I love her new place, itās a small space and she only has one client at a time, I really liked that.
I am desperate for a haircut, my last one was in July. I want a nice short bob, some day.
Yay for Dune, haircuts, and time with your daughter!
Popping in briefly to say my SOTD is Mitsouko. I forgot it was Bowie week, and I’m bummed I’ve missed a few days already! He was a really important figure in my young life as a queer person, even though he was biggest before “my time.” So beautiful, confident and creative.
I had almost forgotten how gorgeous he was — he is amazing in both the videos I posted.
Thanks for the well wishes for Jake. His surgery went well and we will be leaving soon to pick him up. Was wearing Lyric this morning but switched to Hedonist today. Haven’t worn Hedonist in quite a while.
That’s great news! Glad it went well.
So glad it went well for Jake!
Yay!!!
Hurray!
Yay! Great news! ?
He’ll be so happy to see you when you pick him up, I’m sure!
Great news!
Thats great news! ?
That’s wonderful, have a happy reunion.
hugs to you and to Jake! š
Yay! Great news and you smell great!
Very good news! I’m sure he’s very glad to be back home.
That’s some much-needed happy news for today! Thanks for sharing it.
Glad to hear that about Jake!
Thatās great news about Jake. Wag on, puppy boy!
Sotd is Cuir Ottoman from a sample.
Because Lucasai wore it earier this week and i was reminded of this beauty.
I am extremely sad AND angry and kinda stressed today.
I visted my parents today, and we were chatting away… then my father got a phone call from a friend who was basically saying goodbye forever.
This friend has covid19, is staying in ICU, and had made the decision not to be on a ventilator (just that 5 minute talk to my father probably worn him out for the rest of the day). He probably wont be here anymore next week.
This on top of loads of other crap happening in the world is just breaking my spirit right now.
Sorry for the not so very uplifiting mood here. ?
So sorry to hear this, Jiji. At least your dad’s friend is making that decision for himself, and not being rationed out of advanced care. That takes courage.
I’m so sorry Jiji. I’ve found it really hard to stay in an uplifting mood this last year. I don’t think anyone can blame you.
I’m sorry jiji. Your dad must be very special to his friend.
So sorry to hear this. Your dad’s friend is very brave.
Hugs, Jiji. That is such hard news, and you’re right that there’s plenty else to feel down about. Take good care of yourself.
Big hugs, Jiji, I am right there with you.
Hugs to you and your father. Iām sorry everything is so heavy lately
I am so sorry Jiji. Sending comforting hugs to you and your father. ?
The struggle is real!
I wish perfume was the answer.
Passing you a stiff drink
Itās a lot to process ? Sending hugs…
That really hurts. My best to you, sympathy to your father, and wishes for peace to his friend.
I’m sorry for your dad’s loss but I guess it’s good that his friend had the ability to choose, at least. These are dark times for sure.
I’m sorry to read this, that’s a very sad phone call for your father.
What a difficult phone call. Hugs to your father.
Sorry for the sad news, it must have been comforting for your father to have you there to talk about his friend.
It’s good to share, please know I am thinking of you today, and feeling very sad about everything.
I am so sorry to hear this Jiji. It’s been a heavy year and a heavy start to it in some ways as well. Sending you hugs.
These are seriously tough times. I’m sorry for you, for your dad and for his friend.
He was wise to decide not to be intubated. The outcome for the elderly is so bad, even if they manage to survive initially.
This is of course a very rational approach to an intensely emotional situation, and I really don’t mean to offend. Hugs, things will eventually get better.
Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry Jiji. Sending you big hugs.
Oh Jiji, my sympathies to you and your dad.
That is a very moving story…I will hold onto to hope for your father’s friend.
Thatās so sad. Iām sorry Jiji, for both you and your father.?
I am so sorry Jiji, that is difficult news to hear. Sending you fragrant hugs.
So sorry to hear about your dadās friend.
Oh Jiji, sending hugs. So sad.
You smell wonderful today.
Iām so sorry to hear this news, Jiji. Sending gentle hugs to you and your dad.
Young American has been on my mind, too, Robin. Love it. I thought to save it for tomorrow and pair it with Cabochard, which is what I wore when we danced the weekends away to YA and other classics in the Back Room bar in Ptown. May need to revisit the song, perhaps to Queen Bitch.
Today is Chanel 1957 from a tester, and so far it’s not going too well. It seems soapy and screechy at the same time. My skin chemistry seems to be morphing.
Have a great day, all.
I didn’t like Chanel 1957 at all when I tried it. Too much white musk for me.
Ah, white musk. Kryptonite. Off to scrub. Thanks springpansy!
I love it too. I was going to do Changes tomorrow but I feel guilty to focus so much on his very early career….but that is when his music had a really big effect on me.
Cabochard is perfect!
Another Cabochard fan here! I wore it to parties a lot years ago, after I was given a bottle with just a little left in it. I have the last few mls of a bottle I bought about 25 years ago – it’s a bit disturbing to think it’s now vintage.
And I share your view of 1957, it was all white musk to me.
I wish 1957 worked on me, since itās my birth year. But it was nothing. Nada. I literally couldnāt smell anything.
Wearing Opium today, courtesy of PL67. Thank you again, this is such a fantastic trip down memory lane!
The sun is out today and most of the snow has melted (for the time being).
Opium plus melting snow- perfect ?
Good scent pair, lillyo!
You smell amazing…I loooove Opium!
You smell terrific! Enjoy!
Rawr! ?
I love a sun/snow combo!
I stress-bought a travel spray of Atelierās new lemon island at Sephora last night. It doesnāt last long, but itās pretty and happy. Like floral lemon cake. Thatās my SOTD.
My Sephora still doesn’t have that one. Does it dry down to ambroxan?
No, I wouldnāt say so. It gets more vanillic as it dries down. The lemon part sticks around longer on clothing.
This sounds appealing.
mmmmm, that sounds good! š
Pretty and happy are excellent things to have in a perfume right now.
That sounds yummy! Will have to give it a sniff.
Hi all, my SOTD is Patou’s Sublime – a strong boned chypre for fortification.
After yesterday’s events, I didn’t sleep well – I’m on cup three of coffee, and I’m still tired.
In good news, my workout was stellar, I did 35 minutes of core/cardio pilates that have me feeling a bit tender, in a good way.
And I think we found a bigger apartment in a quieter neighborhood in Millbrae for $550 less than we’re currently paying. Trying to look on the bright side of things. š
Oh yay, glad you found a potential apartment, and glad there’s a bright side to be found!
Yay for coffee and a cheaper apartment. My brother lives in the Castro and has had rent control for about 20 years but he said how prices have, relatively, really come down for apartments so it’s great to seize that opportunity while you can.
Yes She-ra, rents have decreased 25%. That’s astounding!
Wow, thatās great!
Good for you!
When I lived in SF I lived in Pac Heights in a rent controlled apartment. When I left they raised the price up 1,000.00+
They were so SO happy to get me out of there!
Joining you in the not sleeping well club. I am home with my chubby buddha today who keeps remarking on how much “hot drinks” I am consuming today. Then he asks me, can you make me some tea for kids? So I gave him some camomile while I made yet ( another ) pot of black tea..
Cute! I make my kids Ovaltine and call it ākid coffeeā
We have a sort of an adult Ovaltine at home but its called Inka. Not sure how to describe it..
My grandmother got us kids started on coffee at an early age, probably around 4 or 5. It would be a little coffee with a lot of milk and sugar, but gradually less milk and more coffee as we got older. I was drinking it āstraightā (sugar but no milk) by the time I was 11 or 12. My mother thought that was terrible and tried to warn me that it would stunt my growth. Iām 5ā9āāif it stunted my growth it may be a good thing.
Inka sounds intriguing! Is it tea or coffee?
Inka ingredients : Barley, Rye, Chicory, Sugar Beets (at least 72% of grain).
You can find it in the ethnic section of the grocery store.
Here is a little more about it
https://www.tasteatlas.com/inka
Yes, even Pac Heights has decreased, it’s quite stunning, actually.
oh goodness, pilates sounds great for today. š
Hi Tiffanie, Here’s the Pop Sugar Fitness video that I did yesterday. The music is a tad annoying but I had a fantastic workout.
https://youtu.be/9cRNbqJIUmY
Here’s an Ashtanga Yoga video that I did today.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Krp4W0TlAU&list=RDQMTRsjGJC2Tiw&start_radio=1
Thank you for the exercise recommendations! āŗļø Will check them out this weekend ?
Awesome news on your apartment search!
Hope and a prayer new and better apartment comes through!!!
Dior Dioramour today. Gorgeous! I’m surprised I haven’t heard more about this one. I blind bought a bottle with only a little bit left and will surely empty it soon.
Hi dottieNC! Nice to see you!
Hello!! I used to post during my work commute (subway, not driving!) and it’s difficult to make time now that I’m a stay at home mom. But I need a break from the news and sibling fights and this is my happy place. š
Yes, nice to see you too!
And NST is the perfect refuge from all the things. š
Welcome back!
Welcome back dottieNC!
Nice to see you back Dottie!
Nice to see you, dottieNC!
PG Bois Blond today–an old favorite. I’m having a hard time matching anything to Bowie songs, though.
No need to if the spirit does not move you š
You smell divine.
I am having a hard time too…
maybe I will do a haiku for points me thinks
I was going to report a sun sighting, but it disappeared by time I logged in. Sotd is La Danza… I can’t ever remember the rest of it, but it’s the one ltsg wears. I realized this morning I haven’t received my new insurance card, so now I’m digging through old mail, in case I missed it. I hope I find it, so I don’t have to call anyone.
We do not have our new cards either, which is a pain because we have prescriptions we need filled.
che bel profumo!
What do you think of it?
Not, that one.. I’m not with it so can’t look. Libuelle, is what my phone is remembering.
la Danza delle Libellule, I know what you meant..
The above comment was an Italian compliment on your Italian perfume choice <3
Oh! Thank you! Or is it grazi?!
A lot of times you can find them on the website to print. We havenāt received ours, and have no issues with getting prescriptions filled.
Found it! Sun came out too!?
Yay! And glad you got the sun as well. It sure makes a difference, doesn’t it.
Hey, glad to hear that you saw the sun today after all!
I was so busy at work today, but I saw sun. I just know I did; but couldn’t go over to the window to verify. š
I think it was Petunia who wore it!
Continuing my exploration of the Soivohle line – today Iām sampling Grand Canyon. Its dominant notes (per the website) are citrus orange, orange blossom, honey and jasmine. Some combination of those is reading as a cola note to my nose which, interestingly, I also get from Cuir Beurre – the cola-ness fades quickly in CB, but is hanging on in GC (not that thatās a bad thing). The jasmine read more as gardenia in the very early stages, but has calmed considerably now. I like the scent, but donāt think I need more of it. Tomorrow Iāll sample Sinti.
I haven’t heard of this line..
Very much worth exploring.
Grand Canyon didn’t work for me at all, but Sinti definitely did. I got (of all things!) a very vivid and realistic bay leaf note in Grand Canyon.
I wonder if thatās the same note my nose is interpreting as cola … still there, and not much else at this point. Looking forward to sampling Sinti as you and I seem to have very similar likes, fragrance-wise.
Got a sample package from the lovely 50_Rosesast night so I am experimenting with Keiko Macheri UmĆ©. I’ve only had it on for about 10 minutes but I like it so far. Plum-floral, but more powdery than sweet.
After the news died down yesterday we decided to watch something a little less stressful: Lovecraft Country. Only got through one episode, but I liked it!
As in HP Lovecraft?
You know the news is terrifying when HP Lovecraft seems safer.
Eeeeeexactly.
I was also wondering – ha ha! Cthulhu over current absurdities any day š
I like Ume, and have a bottle of it.
Meet me on the Corner for a young Bowie of the early 70ies. Thankfully my covid test came back negative a d I am feeling a bit better.
Yay for the negative test and feeling better! š
I got a negative result last night too! Even a small cold is more stressful than it has to be now.
Hooray! Iām so glad to hear that.
Glad for the negative test and feeling better!!!!
Yay for tannina and Dorsey!
w00t w00t w00t for negative COVID tests!
Wonderful news!
Two negative test results! Yippee! ?
Wearing 4160 Tuesdays Rhubarb & Custard today which was a 4th quarter acquisition. I have a tracking spreadsheet and it too is labeled acquisitions vs. purchases. I am running a curated perfume museum collection in my mind. ?
Koyel asked if this perfume has any egginess a la the custard. There is sweetness in the opening so far and I shall be watching and waiting for any egginess to appear.?
Sending great, big hugs to those, like myself, with sad and heavy hearts today. ā„ļø
Ha I love your idea of a curated perfume museum ?
Hugs back to you ā¤ļø
hugs back
You sound very organized!
Thank you for the hugs – I really needed them. Biggest hugs back to you.
I am impressed by your spreadsheet š I tell myself I don’t need one because I am not going to buy much anyway!
I love that dessert so probably would like the perfume. Sending hugs too.
Returning hugs back atcha.
Sending hugs back to you, feeling very down today. Too much bad stuff going on.
Hugs back to you too!
Listening to Bowie’s Telling Lies from Earthling. Always liked this one.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Gh44g0zASaU
Pairing it with Poison. Closest match I could come up with lol.
I still can’t seem to log into my hotmail hmph.
Working on my sample of Carner Black Calamus. Most samples so far have been pleasant but not inspiring enough to buy, but this one would be nice to have as a decant or travel spray.
I did not try Black Calamus but also maybe didn’t love any of the Carner Barcelona early scents enough to keep at it? They were nice though.
SOTD: Cartehusia Medieterrano (sp?-my bottle has been so well used that the label is eroded). A sunny tea/fig, pretty much everything one can want in a fig.
Sounds beautiful!
that line has some gorgeous fragrances.
You smell great Dilana!
SOTD = Prada Les Infusions de Prada Oeillet
Perfectly calming perfume – citrusy and spicy contrasts
https://www.instagram.com/p/CJwNNz2B2wn/?igshid=15z7pe2oovkre
I have to decide what to wear tomorrow! I intend to do the CP so who knows.
I love that one! You smell wonderful.
Thank you, irisjasmine!
I really like that one, and calming is right!
Itās spicier than I remembered but thatās a good thing!
Those owls are so dang cute!
Thank you, jalapeƱo! They are well loved ?.
I love your wooly owls. š
Thank you, cazaubon!
Hello fragrant friends. In a spritz of Eau de Magnolia.
Itās nice to have this perfume oasis of delights called NST right now.
Yes it is!!
Like a few others here, I’m a huge fan of early Bowie – my favourite tracks all came out when I was a kid and before I had any money to buy albums, so I was very excited to find a flatmate with a lot of Bowie when I moved into my first flat back in 1984. I haven’t kept up with new releases since then š
I’m wearing a dab of Hiram Green’s Vivacious this morning. It didnt grab me the first time I tried it, but definitely warrants further consideration. I have no idea about a Bowie link!
For sure my first Bowie album was Changesonebowie in 1976.
SOTD is Chanel Cuir de Russie because I wore yesterday and it smells so good. Bowie is complicated for me ā I love him and his music, but it will always remind me of my late stepson, so very bittersweet.
The happy news is that I am now ā as of this morning ā a great-great (yes, really) aunt. Technically this is our fourth great-great niece/nephew, but we do not have a relationship with the parents of the other little ones, so this arrival feels really special. I have two tiny hand knit sweaters ready to send to the baby.
Congratulations on the newest member of your extended family! Iām sorry to hear of the bittersweet association you have with Bowie. Sending love to you if all this Bowie talk is difficult.
Thank you, Sistine ā I am doing fine, and in fact listened to Bowie on my walk this afternoon. Itās good to remember, even though also sad.
Cuir de Russie is fabulous, utterly fabulous. And I hug you virtually on the bittersweet memories and to the utterly sweet new life.
Congratulations!
Sorry for the sad music association, but happy for you about the arrival.
Congratulations! Would love to see the mini-sweaters!
Congratulations!
Congratulations on the new family arrival!
Hand knit sweaters – how lovely! They will be thrilled to receive those.
Congratulations on the new addition!
They will love the sweaters!
Congrats on the new little one!
Hello everyone!
It’s my first time posting here. Hajusuuri recommended this lovely group as her current fragrance community, after I bemoaned to her that I’m missing connection with a fellow fragrance lovers (Instagram being unsatisfactory for various reasons, and also my not being on FB). I used to be an avid swapper on makeupalley, more than a decade over, and I’ve not really found a comfortable place since…
I’ve been reading the past week of SOTD posts and looking forward to getting to know all of you better! You seem like such a chill and lovely group, and what I need now. The Donatella posts were also so fun to read!
My SOTD is Aramis Calligraphy Rose. I really wanted something sweet and cozy today.
Welcome! This is such a fabulous place. Weāre glad to meet you!
Welcome tulipani!
Welcome!
Oh hello! Welcome!
Welcome! NST is the best place. We are glad youāre here!
Welcome, tulipani! You smell great.
Howdy Hi! Pull up a chair and stay awhile ?
Great to have you join us.
Welcome!!!!
Calligraphy Rose is definitely sweet and cozy!
Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! In time, I will learn names!! I’m already recognizing SmokeyToes because I’m also in the Bay Area and recognize places she mentions.
Nice, there are a bunch of us spread out all over the Bay Area š
Welcome! ?
Adding another welcome!
Greetings!
Welcome and nice to meet you!! I’m also in IG.
Woohoo! You made it here! Welcome!!!
Welcome tulipani!
Welcome! This is an exceptionally friendly and kind-spirited corner of the interwebs.
Iām wearing Provisionās Resonance today. I needed something very earthy and grounding for reassurance, and this is working perfectly.
Hugs and love to all. You are all appreciated so much.
Sending you hugs back, sistine! Grounding scents are so welcome these days.
Hugs to you sistine.
Wishing you added reassurance!
Hugs and reassurance back to you!
I had fully intended to wear Mitsouko after a hot shower. Our apartment was very cold this morning…we sleep with the bedroom window open and have the heat valve in the living room turned off.
But…after getting dressed, I just reached for Gabrielle Essence. No Bowie song I can think of to match.
Slept very well, had usual coffee but then added a strong cup of Trader Joeās chai with milk and sweetener. Finished the book I was reading and need to start the next one downloaded from the library to be sure I finish before it expires. No sandwich making today…I bruised the area around my left thumb on the top of my hand somehow, so need to rest it.
Gabrielle Essence is truly lovely. I can’t think of a song or Bowie movie/video that matches, but you smell beautiful.
Hope your thumb heals soon!
I am wearing Dame Perfumery Earth Mother, after a workout and quick shower. Also, eating a bowl of gumbo sent from my father in law. Perfume and gumbo are very cozy on this cold day.
Oh, nice FIL! Have not had gumbo in ages.
Cajun and Creole food are so tasty!
Wow- Thursday already!
1) Am in Fresh Cream Soft Suede after a calming spin & core workout.
2) Am thinking of I’m Afraid of Americans by David Bowie, which came out when I was in college.
I know, right? Can I have been back at work for nearly a week already? What have I even accomplished?
I feel you!
I took a two break and came back to 2 meetings and loads of reports and forecast papers. And all of a sudden, it’s THURSDAY!
Nice scent. You smell good.
You smell great. That one is sooo easy to wear. ?
I really love it and now have to hunt down an extra bottle -I think it is discontinued! š
SotD = Myrrh Eglantine
Feeling the love for Bowie, roses, and Hermessences – thanks to pl67 and Robin for their inspiring scent choices today. And thank you to the wonderful NSTers who shared ME samples with me. I adore it.
Yay for tempura day. I used to frequent a family-run Japanese restaurant that always garnished their take out bento boxes with a little tempura surprise. One day it was a tiny tempura gherkin pickle! Made me laugh then and now.
Tempura pickle! Now that is pretty funny- and tasty, I bet!
You smell awesome!
Yum, tempura!
I thought I was crazy yesterday so I dipped back into my sample of Masque Milano Romanza for a fuller test today: definitely still get narcissus and aromatic grape, of all things, before it goes more feral and green. I kind of love it!
Taking some deep cleansing breaths today – yesterday was a lot! I am in Montreal, where we also received confirmation that we’ll be entering a stricter lockdown for the next month with an overnight curfew due to how overloaded our medical system is here.
Hope everyone is hanging in there and that the perfume is bringing you serenity or a smile today!
Oh dear, a month of overnight curfew is more “a lot”, isn’t it. Hope it helps keep the numbers down.
I love Romanza, great stuff. Bon courage for the additional lockdown measures!
Oh boy! Lockdowns used to be only for schools with an active shooter like situation, now it rolls off the tongue…like bubbles.
Yup, and I’m honestly just hoping it works cuz our poor nurses and doctors are running ragged.
Does anyone here have days where they just can’t jive with their perfumes? After trying three different ones over the course of the day and feeling particularly otherwise I finally found peace with SMN’s Vetiver…
Yes! And sometimes I give up.
Yes. Those are the days I skip it altogether. Trying to make a perfume fit where it doesn’t is usually a fail.
I’m glad I’m not the only one! Skipping entirely sounds like a good option… And when that ALSO doesn’t feel right, well…one sometimes ends up happy in something unexpected.
I’m wearing big and retro this morning in Panthere de Cartier parfum.
I miss the old PanthĆØre, you smell gorgeous.
Wearing Oeillet Bengale ( I can’t do the proper spelling on my blasted phone.
Not a Bowie fan for some reason. My guess is I’m in a minority on that, as I should be ?
Hey, I bet there is a little silent not-Bowie club here! I mean, no musician is universally loved.
The only song I really know and love is Hello Space Boy… Ok, my homework is to listen to the ones posted š
Ok.. don’t tell anyone, but I’m not much of a fan either. I only know what play’s on the radio, or what used to play on mtv.
Great choice, love Oeillet Bengal!
So funny “perfume” story…went to the store and there are some ladies husslin cheapo body spray sales from the trunk of their car. They came up to me, “You like perfume?” I said, “love perfume” lol. Then they spray these bad smelling body sprays on me haha. They apparently go for 70 dollars on their site LOL or I could get one for 25 if I buy from the trunk of their car. Haha. They said they have sold 2 million sprays and are trying to get Macy’s to sell them. I wanted to say….as if lol and Macy’s ain’t gunna sell this hahaha. So I have some bad body spray on me called Purple Krush or something. Then they give me a “business card” that has a bad print of a stripper with dollar bills hanging out of her underwear, wearing big gold and silver gaudy necklace chains. LOL you can’t make this up. I would not pay over 1.99 and even then..these smell pretty bad!!! Hahaha.
NOOO – a picture of a stripper??
Purple Krush! Great story, sorry you had to get sprayed for it.
Ai yi yi yi yikes!
Totally worth it for that story tho!! Cracked me right up ?
Genius story. Thanks for sharing!
Hello NST! Even more improvement with my back today. Not really sore anymore, just so very stiff.
Warning: Here’s a kind of gross, kind of funny story for all the people here who are owned by cats. One of my cats was making her “I’m gonna throw up” meow this afternoon. I went looking for her, so I would know where to clean up the resulting mess. She was barfing in one of the catboxes! Easiest clean up ever. Gotta take the wins where you can find them.
SOTD = commando today. Wasn’t sure about any perfumes today, even my much loved incenses or Wrappings/AE/Azuree. Probably back to scented shenanigans tomorrow.
Such a well behaved cat.
Not really… one of her nicknames is Brat, because I spoil her rotten.
OMG, at least the kitty issue was wrapped up as a ‘2-fer’; a win in my books any day!
Glad that your back is feeling better!
Thanks Gail!
I so relate to your cat story! Those little domestic triumphs!
Yep! And this cat has done some doozies in the past. I’m rather pleased she saw fit to give me a break today.
Wow, double good luck today then!
Still not enough to convince me to get a lottery ticket tonight. ?
Ha!
I’m owned by a dog…
Bet you have some stories about the experience, too!
Me too, Merlin. I was just thinking that my pupster likes to stand on the tile and ralph on the area rug. ?
Not so sure – he treats me really well on the whole. There were some breaking in incidents when he did not yet know his own strength and broke my finger – and another when he knocked out my tooth. Generally though – I couldnāt be owned by anyone better ?
Thanks for the kitty story laugh?
I was nervous about how it would end!
Glad to be of some amusement! The story could have had a really gross ending, for sure.
Iāve never been that lucky, usually mine move to the rug from the floor….
Oh, I’ve had plenty of cat barf in the carpet, too!
LOL, that’s handy! Only better thing is when one cat barfs up barely eaten food and another comes along and eats it! I know, gross!
Or even worse, when the SAME cat decides it’s time to “clean up” their mess that way! Ew ew ew ew!
Ahahahahaha that happened with one of our cats once. Ugh!
Nice! I had one dog that would run to his pee pad to vomit, so courteous.
Smart dog! ??
Good kitty!
Glad your back is much better.
Thanks! More gentle stretching is in my future, methinks.
Oh man that’s a hole-in-one kitty!!! Ours always aim for a sweater or blanket or home good that’s got little crevices or some such, despite the endless tracts of hardwood floor available to them for their barfing needs.
āPeople here who are owned by catsā ? Aināt that the truth. Whenever people argue dogs are smarter because āthey do what you sayā, I laugh.
Can your kitty train mine? The minute I hear her hacking she is *always* on a rug. Always. Ugh. Most of my house is wood flooring and she is *always* on a rug to puke. š
Glad to hear your back is better!
Diorling today which strikes me as unisex for some kind of connection with DB.
Very nice! That one is a perfume unicorn in my area… never did see it at the perfume counters the the Before Times.
ARGH! That should be “in the Before Times”. Gotta proof my copy better.
It might now be discontinued, on top of difficult to find in the first place, but if you want, I’d like to send you a decant when I go to France in March (if I am allowed to go (shipping perfume is prohibited from the UK in principle).
You can contact me at: custom of the country (all attached) aaat jeeeemail dowt com
Thank you for your kind offer! I know how lovely Diorling is, just astonished at how it never seemed to take hold here in the States. I will email later.
Love Diorling!
Glad you are a fan, it gets forgotten but it really is a lovely, soft leather.
Commando for most of the week. Still battling this cold. I did wear OJ Woman on Tuesday but nothing yesterday or today so far. Looking forward to reading and seeing what everyone else is wearing though! Iām guessing you all smell amazing.
Feel better soon!
Sorry to hear that, plenty of lemon ? and honey ? tea to feel better soon.
I hope you feel better soon KellyC!
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Feel better soon, KellyC!
I hope you turn the corner on your cold soon, KellyC!
SotD was Chamade edt (new tester). I loved it.
Chamade is a beauty!
Found out a good friend of mine has had Covid and was stuck in bed, extremely ill, for two weeks, but is now emerging. Thank goodness, very scary. She’s in England. I was in Zoologist Koala today, which is just not as warm and cuddly as one would hope. It’s kind of fresh and minty and blah. Too bad. We had Zoom with my Mom’s place director who told us all the vaccination plans. Mom’s group won’t get theirs until Feb. 1. Some family members were very upset, angry, and accusatory, but I felt sorry for the director, who is excellent–all the scheduling is out of her hands and done by the state. She said some places are not getting any vaccines until March! We have to feel lucky we can get this much done.
Wow, that’s a lot of heavy stuff to deal with. Hugs.
Iām glad to hear your friend is healing and your Mom will be vaccinated soon.
Glad sheās better. Looks like many places are still trying to figure out the vaccination process.
Iām glad your friend is getting better. Youāve had a lot to struggle through during the last couple of months.
Itās not fair for people to get upset with that director. Weāre all in line and should do our best to be patient.
Reporting late, wore Lost Cherry today and now switched to Omnia Madera.
You smell nice ?
Hello all! Love the second video: Cher and David Bowie doing The Bump Is just perfect. Also, did you notice the perfect color placement of blush and contour on his cheeks? Wish I had those skills….or the cheekbones.
I found another great match for Ouarzazate: LL Labdanum 18 in the liquid balm as the base. It was very calming last night, which I sorely needed.
We had to do a faucet replacement in the kitchen earlier this week, which turned out to take longer than expected. I was a good cheerleader and hander of tools. But itās done now, phew! You never know how important running water is until you donāt have it.
I was in Aerin Waterlily Sun this morning, which was pretty nice! This afternoon, it was Bergamoss. Mmmm, good stuff. Many thanks to the NSTers who have been so generous with freebies! ā¤ļø
I havenāt heard anything about the Le Labo liquid balms so that is interesting!
Will probably be the last poster today. Again!
Sampled a few of the more recent Zoologist releases that I hadnāt sniffed: Squid, Sloth and yesterday Koala. Of those 3, Squid is the most interesting to me. Iāll have to sample some more. Like, not insta-love. Not really my usual style.
Later it was some Musk Deer, which is a total insta-love, and which I confirmed my local independent will have back in stock in a few weeks.
Now Iām in Les Indemodables Musc des Sables. 9 ml decant arrived today. Smells just like my sample, so I think itās legit. Price was very reasonable on the bay, and totally staves off the need for an FB. Also got decant of Iris Perle.
Life otherwise is work, work, work and trying to avoid the news.
