It's Monday and the 11th night of Christmas (pipers piping), plus World Braille Day. Birthdays: Sir Isaac Newton and Michael Stipe. What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m in Tom Ford Black Orchid.
Reminder: 1/8 is David Bowie's birthday. If you like, pick a favorite Bowie song and wear a perfume to match. Or, just wear a fragrance that you think fits with the occasion for whatever reason.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

It’s SO winter and apparently we’re in for at least five days of drizzle, freezing rain, and snow, so I guess it’s time to break out the warmth. I’m wearing Yves Rocher Neonatura Cocoon, basically CSP Amour de Cacao with a bit shot of patchouli. It’s really nice, easy to wear, simple and friendly: yet another incomprehensibly discontinued classic from the YR vaults. I’m glad I have a backup bottle.
Neonatura Cocoon is so good. I need to dig that one out. You smell fantastic.
Hi all, my SOTD is Tom Ford’s Black Orchid layered over the body oil. I’m a little sore from yesterday’s workout, I did a 1/2 hr of Bikram yoga. I will walk in a little big and perhaps do yoga later this afternoon.
Everyone have a lovely Monday!
you are my hero!
My workout this morning was making focaccia bread and eating it with brie and olive oil after…
LOL!
Oh, that sounds delicious! And brie with olive oil? YUM! Marin French Cheese Co. makes a truffle cheese that is out of this world.
You smell divine.
I love Bikram Yoga! I miss my old studio.
I used to do Bikram Yoga at a studio in SF on 25th Ave & California street. They unfortunately, closed a few years ago.
My wrists have been a little sore, I like that Bikram has fewer movements than other forms of yoga requiring pressure on the wrist joints.
I do yoga in a mildly heated room, once I hit menopause, I can’t do 105 degrees. 80 is about all I can handle! 😀
Up early (for me) this a.m. to shovel and clean my car off before I head off to work later. The storm wasn’t that bad this time, and the snow on the trees is actually quite pretty; some nice scenery to look at as I drive thru town today.
Soup Of The Day will be Geranium Odorata. I don’t know if I have ever worn geranium before (and didn’t even know the actual flower had a scent to it), so curious as to what it smells like.
Geranium is great. Hope you enjoy it.
I believe it’s the leaves of the scented geranium that smell interesting. When I lived in Toulouse, the natural history museum had a row of scented geraniums whose leaves smelled of various things (one more lemony, one like cinnamon, etc.). It was great fun to crush the leaves between two fingers and sniff.
Chanel No. 5 EDP on this chilly morning. I am drinking a cup of Taiwan Oolong tea.
Always a good choice for a Monday!
House twins! Woke up in no 5 this morning.
Taiwanese oolong is so great! I need to put in a tea order soon.
Back to work after ten days off for vacation, holidays, etc. Wearing Kelly Caleche. My perfume New Year’s resolution is to make a concerted effort to wear and finish my existing samples, as well as discovery sets and decants that are running low, ideally before buying any new samples, discovery sets and decants. I doubt that I will manage it, but I’m going to give it a good try.
I sort of have the same plan but I’m still waiting on one discovery set that I ordered las year so this might not be the best start to this plan for me! 🙂
You smell great! I like your plan.
Kelly Caleche…so good!!
SotD is Memoir Man, from the Amouage sample set I bought 2 years ago.
Its really cold and grey here.
I am enjoying another staycation this week.
(Follow up to this weekends poll) Yesterday I watched the movie Blindspotting and i was pleasantly surprised. To be honest, i had zero expectations, i had never heard of it before. But i really enjoyed it!
Its a sad and funny and sweet and honest story about friendship, gentrification, social inequality, racism. Certain scenes reminded me of Spike Lee ..but this had its very own Oakland/west coast vibe.
I recommend it if you are interested in the themes mentioned above.
Cold and grey here too Jiji! Enjoy your week of staycation.
I loved Blindspotting in theaters, keep meaning to rewatch it. Loved both of the leads.
Mimosa Cardamon
Pleine Lune tea
Robin, today is also national spaghetti day..
I am making some with puttanesca sauce
Oh I should have included that! And love puttanesca.
I share a birthday with Sir Isaac:) and birthday week with Bowie. Not sure what fragrance to wear. I am wanting spicy lately…hmmm
Last year, I had Black Forest Cake…this year? Who knows but chocolate and/or cake will be involved:).
Hugs guys!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! It’s my youngest brother’s birthday too and fittingly he is an engineer.

Happy birthday!
Happy Scented Birthday, Omega! ???
Happy birthday a day late! Hope you had a nice one.
Wearing Tauer Phi Une Rose de Kandahar.
Finally the sun is out! ?
I am back to work and ready to face another heavy, busy week.
Every year, I visit the nursing home where my father spent his last days in hospice care. Unfortunately, due to Covid I was not able to do it last year. I always brought goodies to the nurses and personal care stuff for some of the residents. I found out this weekend that Mrs. Davis, a resident who stopped by my father’s room several times a day to give him some company passed away 3 weeks ago from Covid. Very, very sad news for me, although not surprised considering the current situation. She was a very sweet lady, who loved to wear perfumes and used to enjoy and share the samples, decants and full bottle that I brought to her every Christmas. I will miss her deeply. Last night I decided to make a donation on her name to the nursing home and add to that amount the price of all the perfume purchases that I made last year, plus the value of all freebies and gifts received from fellow perfumistas last year. I don’t know when I will be able to go there again, but I hope that wherever she is now she is glad that in a different way I am sharing our love for perfume with the people who took care of her and her resident friends. And as she always said, I hope she brought with her to Heaven all her perfumes to smell divine in eternity! ?
Happy Monday, everyone!
I’m sorry you lost such a dear friend. Glad you were so able to generously bless the nursing home! Hope it’s sooner rather than later you can make a visit.
What a wonderful donation! A close friend of mine and another acquaintance of mine both lost their fathers to Covid in nursing homes in the past month or two. One can’t even go back to the country where her father is for the time being. Very sad.
Very sad situation indeed. One of the things that torments me is knowing that people are dying alone every day in hospitals and nursing homes. That is emotionally devastating.
Thanks for sharing this story; the Mrs. Davises of the world help to keep me going. I am sorry for this new loss, and glad that you’ve found a meaningful way to remember her.
All the Mrs. Davis encourage me every day to not quit. We have to keep moving in their memories.
What a lovely gesture. I have a feeling Mrs. Davis would approve, may she Rest In Peace and may her memory be eternal.
Thank you for sharing your memories of Mrs. Davis. So very sorry for your loss. Big hugs to you, PL 67.
Thank you She-ra. Last time I spoke to her was in October. She was doing ok at that time. We had a lovely conversation that I will always cherish. Good memories for sure!
I love that story. I am sorry for your loss. I also think about my bounty and the things that give me pleasure that I can afford, when I’m making donations. It makes the giving even more pleasurable. I am so certain Mrs. Davis would be delighted.
I miss my PHI, finished my bottle a while ago.
Are you planning to replace the bottle?
I’d love to but Andy doesn’t ship full bottles to Poland, which would be the best way for me to get it.
What a lovely story and tribute. I’m glad she was there for your father when she was most needed, and I’m sorry for your loss ?
I’m sorry to hear of Mrs. Davis’ passing. Your tribute was very thoughtful.
I’m so sorry to hear that you have lost a friend, thank you for sharing your lovely story.
I’m sorry for your loss pl67. I hope you can visit again and resume your tradition. It was a wonderful thing you did with your donation.
Thank you, Lillyjo. I hope I can eventually go back, even though it will not be the same anymore.
That is super lovely and so like you to do something so generous. I’m sorry for the loss of your friend. I think she would be very glad about you sharing the love!
I was not the only one making that donation. Many of you here were part of it when you shared with me your love for perfume. I am very thankful for the generosity of this community which contributed to it.
What a wonderful and generous thing for you to do! Sorry for the loss of someone valued and cherished.
I’m sorry about your loss but what a lovely way to honor your friend.
Very moving, so sorry you lost a friend and how generous.
This was so kind of you. I am so glad my mom and dad are not here for this.
I am also glad that my dad is gone. The stress and suffering is great. I pray everyday that my mom stays healthy until she can the vaccine.
we will keep her in our prayers and thoughts.
What a lovely post to read despite the sadness.
What a nice tribute and kind gesture. May her memory be a blessing.
I teared up reading your post, and had to grab a Kleenex. Sorry to hear you are missing that lovely lady.
It is overwhelming sometimes to be living thru these very difficult times. I never expected to hear sad news so early this year. God will provide!
It’s been a long work day and I’m so glad I read this before shutting down the screen. Thank you for sharing this lovely story. I feel for residents in long term care facilities who haven’t had the joy of seeing any visitors. I hope someone is taking the time to hold their hands and give them a hug.
My scent of the day is Akro Smoke. ?
Was wearing no 5 edt and now in no 22 edt. Wednesday is Jake’s surgery and taking care of whatever needs doing before Wednesday.
I hope it will go really well Wednesday.
Sending thoughts of health and healing for Jake’s surgery. Hang in there, Dawn.
Sending lots of love and light for his surgery on Weds.
Sending positive and healing vibes for his surgery.
Sensing Jake lots of good vibes.
Hi Dawn, Scent twin in no.22, seemed like a really good contrast to my festive perfumes of the past few weeks. We smell good! ?
Also sending out good thoughts for Jake.
Best wishes for a successful surgery!
Fingers crossed for both of you on Wednesday! ?
Amouage Dia. Kind of the opposite of the CP, maybe? One of my fallback fragrances for professional days, and today I need to make myself appear more professional than I feel! Made super rich food last night (short ribs and homemade German egg noodles) and forgot that I can’t really eat that stuff without consequences. There goes my dream of a foodie vacation in Lyon!
Dia is nice, even though it’s kind of boring. Boring can be a good thing though.
Mmm…short ribs and egg noodles!?
Sometimes the consequences are worth it though!!!! I was watching a cooking video on short ribs over the weekend and now you’ve got me really yearning even though the plan for the week is vegetarian lentil stew ?
actually, lentils can be tough for me too….I’m just pathetic!
Kicking off first work day in 2021 with Iris Rebelle.
Smelling great!
Thanks!
Hey friends, back at work for the first time since 18 Dec. I’ve been working for about an hour and am over it already. Can vacation come back please?!
In Vetiver Tonka today, and it’s not working for me at ALL. Wonder why. Maybe I needed something more soothing for the first day back at work. Grr.
“….and am over it already” had me giggling hard.
That was quick! You have a way with words, Koyel! 🙂
Good luck w/ the word day today.
Work day rather. 😉
Hi feel the same! Just taking baby steps
LOL! I love Vetiver Tonka, but even with scents I love, some days it just doesn’t work.
Doe in the snow today. I felt a bit of a cough coming yesterday and developed laryngitis today. My voice went away, so I quit work and will get another covid test tomorrow. I can still smell, so hope it’s just a normal infection.
If it helps allay concerns, I had a cold about a year ago that gave me laryngitis…it was the primary symptom.
Good luck and big hugs…hope you feel better.
I hope you feel better soon!
Sending best wishes for a negative test and a swift recovery!
Good luck with the test.
Fingers crossed it’s not covid! And hope you feel better soon.
Hopefully just laryngitis, feel better soon!
Hope it’s just a cold. Fingers crossed on your COVID test results being negative.
Shalimar Souffle Intense which was an excellent recommendation from SmokeyToes…got a tester w/ cap from FragranceNet for super cheap (no affiliation)…I believe this flanker is discontinued.
Stress and gluttony are driving me to buy more samples 😉 and I have my eye on Heretic next. I signed up for their emails but haven’t bought or tried anything from this line yet but they have 15% off right now (no affiliation again just gluttony) through the end of the month it appears. I am most curious about their Dirty Vanilla.
I am still feeling better each day and feel so grateful.♥️ Great, big hugs to all this first Monday of the new year.
A late reply to your reply yesterday. I’m sorry I must have confused you with someone who said she was going to Hawaii. Glad you’re at least home while having to deal with the broken vertebra!
No problem and thank you!
The soufflé flankers are very nice!
I like the orange creamsicle Shalimar soufflé scent also, and the bottle is to die for.
Yes, that one has a stunning bottle.
I am so glad you are feeling better. I must’ve missed your post where you said you were hurt, but a broken vertebra sounds really scary and painful!
Thanks, Koyel! Just emailed you too. 🙂
Hugs to you, She-Ra. I am glad you are feeling better.
Thank you.♥️
I was going to make sure you saw that Heretic discount!
I’ve tried Smudge, Dirty Jasmine, Jasmine Smoke and Scandalwood from Heretic. Smudge and Scandalwood were loves, the two jasmine fragrances were very strong likes.
I’m so sorry to hear about your broken vertebrae She-Ra, how frightening, that must have been, and so worrying, I Hope your recovery goes really well.
I’m very glad to read you’re feeling better. Keep buying those samples – that’s sure to have a positive effect 🙂
Haven’t tried Dirty Vanilla but their Smudge incense perfume is great.
Glad to hear that you are on the mend and feeling better. Good news for a “meh” Monday!
SOTD: Tubereuse Criminelle. Having the same problem as Koyel.
Yesterday I started with Day 1 of Adriene’s yoga challenge and realised that since I last did yoga, my knees have become wonky. And creaky. But will try to persevere.
namaste!
It will get easier. I have horrid knees and find that Yin yoga helps with mobility and pain.
You smell great. I specially got a sample of that one based on Robin’s review back in 2005.
https://nstperfume.com/2005/02/19/serge-lutens-tubereuse-criminelle-fragrance-review/
Adrienne is so great, she really encourages individuals to moderate and adapt to different levels of ability. Good luck!
? if it makes you feel better, yoga seems to lead to more creakyness in all of my joints!
Showered in Muddled Plum shower gel, followed by matching lotion. My Natori has gone off (in that the scent has disappeared completely), so I decided to add the lushest rose I own…Ta’if.
We successfully exchanged the SMN scent for Zagara…a straight up orange blossom. Husband loves it! Today, I’m off to return the other gift I gave him, which he requested but ended up not loving.
Need to get serious. Some Old Navy pants were very tight this morning…granted they always are a bit after wash, but this seemed more so than usual. Oops. Could be the various boxes of Frango chocolates I got over the holidays.
Heh. I haven’t exercised properly in over two weeks, and am not looking forward to getting back to it. Anyway, tasty chocolates are an excellent way to indulge 🙂
Frango mints…. drool…
I spent all of December in sweatpants enjoying a carb fest and my return to jeans was just a little less comfortable than I had hoped, lol. But sometimes indulgence is necessary – especially for Frango!
Hello and Happy New Year! Long time no see.
I’m actually in Mon Guerlain edp, from a spray sample. I won’t be buying a full bottle, though it’s not unpleasant.
I hope, Robin, that you and the NST family are well!
In the words of Jimi Hendrix, hey Joe! Nice to see you ?
Ha!?
“Not unpleasant” is often Not Enough these days for buying. Hold out for true love…
Hello Joe! Happy new year.
Greetings!
So nice to see you Joe, and hope you are well!
Wearing functional and easy Bath&Body Kaleidoscope. It is an iris, cedar, pink pepper and musk. It was discontinued but they brought it back for the clearance event. Yay! Working my way through my Strangelove samples. Warning, you must love oud since it is the jumping off point for all the fragrances. I am finding them challenging and beautiful.
I might check out the sale this week. I liked Kalidiscope.
In a perfume my perfume-tolerant and frequently anosmic husband loathes–Knowing. I think this bottle used to belong to Pixel’s mother-in-law!
It is pouring outside, and the cats are fighting, and I have a welcome back pile of work for work–so trying to get into work groove wearing this late 80s juggernaut.
It belonged to my college roomie’s aunt. More degrees of separation!
I know you’ve told me this before, but I cannot keep it straight. That is hilarious. Talk about sisterhood of the traveling perfumes!
?I love this. Next time it will be the auntie’s college roommate ?
Right?!
I bought a decant of Knowing a couple years ago, having not smelled it for many years. It was pretty intense and strong.
Total vavavoom frag. It inherited some of its structure from Aromatics Elixir, and its more modern offspring is Ylang 49, imho.
I had to laugh at “pouring outside, and the cats are fighting…” I’ve had quite a few days like that.
Back at work, but extending the winter holiday in Aqua Allegoria Winter Delice.
Very winter-themed! I have a mini bottle and dab it on occasionally.
SOTD is Dasein Winter. It’s our version of winter here — chilly rainy dreary. Wonderful! We need the rain.
I’m watching my package from Lush take a tour of the US. On Dec 23 it left New York; Dec 30 it appeared in Florida; Jan 2 it left Florida; maybe it will reach California by spring, who knows?
Ha! I was ready to give up today on a sample set I ordered from Hiram green over a month ago – but finally, it has made it to America!
We also had a domestic fedex package that toggled between two towns adjacent to us for a week and then needed “relabeling”. But it did arrive last week.
Don’t lose your hopes on the package. I had a package moving since Black Friday that finally arrived on Saturday! ?♀️
I sent friends packages (Christmas presents) on 16 Dec. The penultimate package reached its destination (in DC) on Sat 2 Jan. There is one more package (going to Baltimore) that was last seen in MD on 30 Dec, and may well still make it to its destination someday soon….
I had a package from RI sit in Massachusetts for over a week, no update in tracking, then magically appeared on my porch this morning.
Updates have been sporadic for some of my packages lately, too.
I am waiting for the box of chocolates my sister sent me…they left Mass, went to Georgia, and have now spent a week “in transit”, which is PO code for who knows.
Working on my semi-resolution to use up samples: I finished off the sample of EL’s Ambre Mystique and compared it to Ambre des Merveilles. Still like the latter as my favourite amber.
AdM is so good 🙂
Ambre des Merveilles is one of my favorite ambers, so beautiful! 😀
Wearing Kyoto today because it sounded good and I haven’t worn it in a while. It feels perfect for a dreary winter day.
Black Orchid sounds good too for those who are wearing it. I think my bottle has turned ? it just doesn’t smell like it did.
Kyoto is so beautiful — I may wear it tomorrow now that you’ve reminded me of it!
Oh boo, I hate it when perfume goes bad before I use it up.
I’m wearing Breath of God today. My elderly cat is showing less interest in food, so I wanted something grounding and comforting.
It was my first day back teaching and it was so great to see my electronic students. I can’t wait until we can all be safely in a classroom together.
I hope so too Sistine, I’m not looking forward to homeschooling, and missing my young counselling clients at school.
Sending well wishes for your kitty. It’s so tough to know how to best help them sometimes but so long as they feel loved, that’s the most important thing!
I hope your kitty feels better soon!
Oh no, good luck with your kitty. Our cat, who died of cancer 1.5 years ago, got reeeeeally picky about food in his last year or so of life, and lost a lot of weight (went from ~11lbs to <7 lbs). We ended up buying like fifteen kinds of food, wet and dry, and rotating among them to keep him interested. As a result, our other (healthy) cat ended up gaining some weight, too.
Best wishes for your kitty, it’s so hard to see them get elderly and know your time together is drawing to a close.
Aw, it can be so frustrating when a kitty is suddenly horribly picky about what they eat. Hugs.
SOTD = Rania J Ambre Loup
Nice, very nice and perfect for this chilly and sunny weather!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CJocK_OhfV_/?igshid=13j6lbeyevchb
I’ll be back later to read and comment!
And I am interrupting my own back to work with my package from 4160Tuesdays finally arrived! I will not open it until tomorrow. Tomorrow. I will honor mail quarantine. Yes, I will. I think.
I admire your self restraint!
Methinks thou protesteth a bit much. ?
You could give the package 8 sprays of Lysol, and wait till it drys. ?
This is what I would do!
Yay! I say douse it with Lysol and give it 30 minutes. 🙂
LOL! Looking forward to hearing about your 4160 goodies no matter when you open your package. ?
Chanel no. 22 today, don’t wear this one very often, but am finding it perfect and uplifting today, as I ease back into some kind of routine. I was going to take my tree down today, but it’s been so grey and miserable, and my tree is so twinkly and cheering..
Our tree was super fresh this year and the twinkling lights are cheering me up in my living room “office,” so we’re leaving ours up a bit longer!
In France, we would leave our Christmas decorations up until Chandeleur, in early February! I fully plan to do this in the US this year too 🙂 No harm in having decorations up longer.
I’m planning to take the ornaments off our tree tomorrow (12th night tradition!) but leave the tree up with just its lights for a bit longer — that way, we can transition from having a Christmas tree to just having a “winter” tree and enjoy its sparkle and evergreeny goodness in these short, dark days!
My family used to leave the Xmas tree up until January 6 every year.
Ah, for Epiphany? Do you do anything else to celebrate the day? (We celebrate the French fete des rois with the traditional almond galette!)
Yep, for Epiphany. But we didn’t mark the occasion in any other way. Keeping the tree up was enough for me when I was a kid. Most of my friends took them down immediately after Xmas.
We put our tree up early this year, but it seems to be doing well so far. I might take it down over the weekend.
SOTD is my newest love, Soivohle Paracelsus. I dabbed it from the sample vial (not yet empty – it’s an extrait so doesn’t need heavy application) and thought maybe dabbing worked better than spraying from the little bottle … but now that a couple of hours have passed I can’t really tell any difference. Wore Dryad for a socially distanced birthday-slash-New-Years visit with the kids yesterday – they have a covered and heated outdoor patio area, and the visit was lots of fun. Mr. G and I brought bagels, cream cheese and smoked salmon, and the kids made hot cocoa. Yum.
You smell marvelous. I enjoy the scents from this line — they’re always a couple of steps to the left of main, which I appreciate.
I agree – they’re classic scents, but always with an unexpected/unusual edge.
I take it you won’t be doing a Hajusuuri-style application with Paracelsus…
Oh, definitely not! LOL!
I’m still exploring my recent sample purchases, and this morning is Armani Privé Orangerie Venise. I rather like it, but not worth the price.
I think I have yet to find an AP I would pay for…but I’m cheap 🙂
Happy Monday, all.
I’m wearing 1000 Flowers Reglisse Noire which I’ve been neglecting lately. 1000 Flowers is a true indie house that is definitely worth investigation. Reglisse Noire is an especially interesting fragrance to me because I find it both cool AND warm. I love its cool minty licorice and warm peppery, spicy hint of vanilla drydown.
Smelling good, springpansy — Reglisse Noire is wonderful!
😀
Was this not a favorite of chocolatemarzipan? Have not heared from her for ages…
Yes, it is a CM8 favorite! Hope she is okay.
She is fine, taking an internet break.
I talked to her this morning, she is fine, just avoiding social media/online stuff.
Good to know 🙂 thank you for the update!
A nice reminder Springpansy! I may copy you tomorrow.
I bet you smell fabulous. I just covet my. sample set but it’s time to use it!
Finishing up my beloved sample of Heure d’Nuit..I need to get on a split with this one. Lol anyone interested?
Lol pairing it with Bowie’s Space Oddity.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=D67kmFzSh_o
?
SOTD is boozy Lubin Korrigan from a sample vial. May pull this one out again for Friday, Bowie was quite a lover of whiskey and brandy.
Walked 6km this morning to buy a secondhand moka off a nice Greek man after Mr. Teebear snapped the handle off our small espresso pot yesterday by accident. All hail FB marketplace!
Thanks for that info, had no idea what to pick for Friday. I’ll wear something boozy.
This thread reminds me of a perfume I came across while trying to clean out the cabinet last weekend — Velvet Rope, by Apothia. It’s supposed to smell like a dry martini, and as far as I can tell (I don’t drink, so I have little experience with cocktails) it does.
FB Marketplace is an AMAZING universe!!! It is putting consignment and estate sales businesses out of business.
Wearing Rive Gauche Intense at the moment, and can I just take a minute to complain about something. I popped over to ebay the other day to check out what they had for vintage fumes and the prices have gone completely insane. I’m talking drugstore Norell for over $100. Avons for similar prices. What on earth? Lost gems these are not, we’re not talking about a bottle of unopened Iris Gris. This is common stuff.
I feel like I got into fragrance collecting at exactly the right time because I could grab a bottle of Eau de Joy for $25 on the bay and I checked out a lot of cool vintage fragrances that way. Now it’s impossible to get a sense of hands on perfume history if you’re a newbie.
The prices have definitely gone up…
I’m wearing 7 Virtues Vetiver Elemi. It’s either reading sweeter today than usual, or my new Fitbit is absorbing days of scents. I’ve been using it for about a week, and I am definitely letting it control my life, which doesn’t seem like a bad thing to me. Since my usual teaching job has been reduced to constant sitting, I wanted to know just how far my usual workouts were going to offset it. The answer is, of course, not far enough! I’m on an 8-day streak of over 10,000 steps a day, though, so I’ll do my best to continue.
Is elemi usually sweet on you? Or is it a dry note?
I am no expert, but I wouldn’t guess that the elemi resin is what’s making it sweet-ish. There is an Amber not listed on fragrantica, so maybe that’s it. The only other thing I’ve picked out the elemi in is Amouage Portrayal Woman, which gives that scent a slightly drier, incensey edge.
Everyone is an expert with respect to their own nose. ?
My fitbit definitely controls my life, plus it is one of the reasons I never put perfume on my wrists anymore.
Elvis shares a birthday with David Bowie.
Memoirs of a Trespasser for a crazy morning back at work.
You smell great! Good luck this trying Monday…
I saw that!
Grey sky and some rain and feeling colder than 5C because of the wind, matching my mood shared by many on this first Monday after the holidays.
Wearing ELDO Fils de dieu, it’s a love, I will treasure my partial bottle, a recent purchase.
We’re roughly temperature twins today. Depending on which weather site I check, it’s between 5 and 7 degrees C. But no wind, thankfully!
Wearing vintage Le De edt, not sure what to make of it.
I’m pretty sure I had Covid a couple of weeks ago, I lost my sense of smell for five days – that was awful! Other than that just a lot of fatigue and quarantining, but I didn’t used to go anywhere really except for the grocery store
Hope you’re feeling better now.
oh dear, please do take care, get as much rest as you can manage!
It’s good to see you here, please chime in with an update on how you’re feeling when you can.
I’m being literal and pairing DSH Love is Everything with Bowie’s Modern Love.
https://youtu.be/HivQqTtiHVw
Thanks again to Catanosmia for sending me a bunch of DSH heirloom collection samples. Love is Everything is based on mango lassi, which I’ve sadly never had. But it’s a lovely, fruity, energetic perfume for a Monday.
I haven’t tried Love Is Everything, but I like a good mango lassi.
Ooh if you can get your hands on a mango lassi someday they’re divine! You can even make a vegan one these days with coconut yogurt.
Hello! This morning I still smelled like Guerlain Ginger Piccante. The sleeves of the hoodie (hooded sweatshirt) I was wearing yesterday evening retained the scent quite well, but I’d given myself a couple of good sprays from a decant right before I put that hoodie on. 🙂
It’s fun when a favorite scent lingers on clothes. 😀
You smell delicious.
Thank you! 🙂
Had a tickle in my throat all night that was making me paranoid about covid. My sister got it in May (she’s a CNA so she caught it at work) and she still can’t taste things as well as she used to or climb the stairs to her 3rd floor apartment without losing her breath. And she’s 25! I am so beyond ready for this to be over.
SOTD is Gucci Guilty.
I hope the tickle is just allergies or other random stuff. I get a sore throat every so often for no apparent reason – fingers crossed! Hope your sister will improve bit by bit!
Thanks!!
Will you be getting tested soon?
I will if there’s any more symptoms…it’s probably just the super dry January air here, it happens sometimes. Keeping a close eye on it!
Oh, sympathies for your sister, that is a long time to not feel 100%. And hope you are ok!
We’re having what feels like our first *serious* rain of the year and it’s back to work for me after a nice holiday break — I’m easing back into it with lighted candles, fuzzy slippers, and lots of tea. Wearing Dzing! today for coziness and optimism.
You smell great. I wore Dzing! all weekend and really enjoyed it.
I’m wearing Musc Tonkin today, and wondering how it compares to Zoologist Musk Deer. Has anyone smelled them both?
I would love to know too!!!
I haven’t smelled both, but fwiw Musk Deer to me opens smelling exactly like the taste of winterberries from the combo of calamus and cardamom, and that opening is *very* persistent and lingering on me.
It could easily have veered into toothpaste or chewing gum territory, but I think it really nicely threaded the needle.
The mid/drydown just smells “musky” to me – there’s hints of florals and woods in there supporting it all but I’d be hard pressed to tell you what all is in there and exactly what it’s doing: to me it’s like Kiehl’s Original Musk but more subtle in the blending.
Funnily enough, I sampled Musc Tonkin today (sprayed about an hour ago) and Musk Deer yesterday.
They are NOTHING alike. For me, at least.
Musc Tonkin borders on scrubber for me. I get a definite fecal note right off the bat. It’s more tolerable now, but why try to work on tolerating something? This is immediately getting tossed in the giveaway pile.
Musk Deer was a “how can I stop myself from buying an FB right NOW?” on first sniff. Delicious, cozy, comforting. I want to try it side by side with Les Indemodables Musc des Sables, which gives me the same feels. Other scents that are not scent comparable but give me the same mood: Coromandel, Samsara, Silver Thread.
I don’t think I’m the best at describing scents, and they’re both very well blended so it’s hard for me to call out a specific note.
I haven’t really explored a lot of animalics, but I suspect I don’t have a high tolerance for skank. That said, I have a lot of things people find challenging so ?♀️ I conclude scent-love is impossible to predict without an actual sniff.
I’ve been dealing with a stiff and sore back the past couple of days. Wondering what on earth I did to make it so upset!
SOTD = Wrappings EdP. Keeping calm and carrying on.
Oh no! Hope you feel better soon!
Thanks! I am aware that things could be SO much worse…
My brother and I have had quite a few discussions lately about going to sleep fine, and waking up sore the next day. Part of the perils of a middle-aged body.
Ever since my 50th birthday several years ago, I have found that I can go to bed feeling just fine and wake up with a sprained ankle or a sore knee and have absolutely no idea what I did to it to make it hurt. I understand that it is a result of being middle-aged, but when it happens, I really, really want to know what I did so that I know what not to do next time.
Yes! This!
I hope you get a good night’s rest and that it relieves the soreness.
Thanks! Advil is gonna be my friend again tonight. More gentle stretching tomorrow if possible.
I’m feeling much the same today, a bit stiff and sore and not sure why. I did a yoga workout this evening, it helped some. Fingers crossed we’re all ok on Tuesday. 😉
Wrappings is SO GOOD, especially in winter! 😀
I was having morning back pain for a couple weeks and finally realized it was my aging mattress.
Evaluate your mattress and pillow! Might just be middle aged aches and pains (I’m right there with you) but switching out mattress and pillow a few years ago seriously helped me.
I highly recommend a millet-filled pillow. Sounds weird AF I know, but it’s brilliant.
If you sit at a desk all day I also highly recommend a kneeling chair.
Of course YMMV! Hope you find some relief.
Hope your back is better today. Backache is so painful.

Hi friends and Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful week last week. I enjoyed my time with my son. We didn’t do much but we ate a lot, took a lot of walks/hikes, and watched a lot of movies. Good times.
I was commando a good bit last week as I had the sniffles (a regular new year occurrence for me apparently)- not covid, I got tested to be sure. The guys seemed fine, just me that was a little under the weather but I am better now and back at work- BOOOOO!
The good news is that I am smelling great in Noir de Noir. No matter how many others I wear, I still LOVE this one.
Happy New Year to you!
A combo day.
Figment Woman sample.
Really different. Not my style but a fun ride.
Off to something new.
Chiming in with my sotd, Cuir de Lancome. Haven’t worn it for a long while.
Smelling GREAT! (use the original Tony the Tiger voice for that)
Thank you! And, that’s funny!!
Oh gosh that one is fantastic!
Late and tired. My Sotd is KvD Sinner. I colored my hair over the weekend in the color goji berry? All my grays turned Orange and the rest stayed black. Not what I was going for. I look ridiculous.
I keep thinking about maybe coloring my hair just for grins, and then thinking that I don’t want to have to scrub the shower as a result.
But it is a bummer that your gray hairs spoiled the effect you were going for.
Oh no! You can try a hair color remover to see if that’ll take it out maybe? Usually greys are more resistant to color so it shouldn’t have penetrated as deep, I’d think that means it would come out more readily as well.
Oh no! Hope you can get it fixed.
I’m very late posting. Had a somewhat scattered day but a fun Zoom cocktail hour meeting for a couple of hours with a group of friends. At that point I decided just to order pick-up dinner from a local favorite Vietnamese place and had a delicious vermicelli bowl. Yum. I wore Keiko Mecheri Genie des Bois today. It’s been almost springy warm sunny weather here (75 today!) and this seemed apt. It’s gentle, pleasant, nothing to write home about–violet, sweet, a bit of a spice. I am lacking in all ambition but see several deadlines on the horizon and so something has to occur to make me shape up very soon and get to work! eek!
Good luck getting things done, Calypso! I am feeling pretty unambitious myself.
SotD = Tobacco Vanille
mmmm, spicy and vanilla-y 😀
doing a super late fly by to say
I hope everyone had a marvelous Monday
and
you! smell! fabulous!
????
Very late post. I didn’t comment on everyone’s, so hugs to all going through tough times and woo hoos to those with things to celebrate.
Started the day in Coromandel, ended in Musc Tonkin.
Debating making some popcorn.
