Up for grabs: Aftelier duo

Posted by Robin on 23 December 2020 45 Comments — Comments are closed

What is it: an Aftelier Natural Perfume Wheel ("The Aftelier Natural Perfume Wheel© organizes essential oils, absolutes, and natural isolates into scent families, as an invaluable tool for selecting essences when blending a perfume. Like the aroma wheels for wine and coffee, this grouping of natural essences helps you get to know the aromas of each one by what characteristics it has in common with its family and what aroma facets make it different from its family.") and a mini of (my favorite!) Aftelier Candide. Plus, a bonus surprise that was not claimed from a previous contest.

Who can enter: Anyone, anywhere in the world, who has commented here on at least two posts (not including freebiemeets, swapmeets or splitmeets), between January 1, 2019 and December 22, 2020.

How do I get it: For a chance to win, leave a comment below telling me either a) your favorite Aftelier fragrance, or b) a fragrance that reliably induces joy every time you put it on, or c) something else you've been dying to post in a comment.

Be sure to use the “Post a comment” box; do not reply to another comment! All replies to comments will be deleted!

The contest will be open until noon or so on New Year's Day (January 1), and I'll announce the winner on January 2.

The fine print: Don't enter the contest unless I have permission to use the email address in your reader account to contact you. If the email address in your reader account is incorrect, you might want to fix it. If you are the winner and you fail to send me your mailing details within a couple of weeks, I’ll give your prize away to someone else. It's possible I will mail your prize promptly — stranger things have happened — but it's more likely that I will not mail your package until mid-to-late January. Reasonable care will be taken in the packaging and mailing of your prize, but if the contents are lost or damaged or seized by customs or fail to please you for any reason whatsoever, I’m sorry but I cannot replace them.

Thanks so much for this giveaway! My favorite Aftelier fragrance is Secret Garden, although Violet Ambrosia is not far behind.

Thank you, Robin for such a great giveaway!

My favorite Aftelier fragrance is Lumiere, followed by Ancient Resins body oil.

Thanks to you and Mandy Aftel for the giveaway!

The perfume that sparks joy for me is Ellis Brooklyn’s Salt. It reminds me of walking along the beach in Southern California, and now that I live several states away, I reach for it whenever I need a nostalgia hit.

Thank you Mandy and Robin! I’m a big fan of Ancient Resins and would like to try the new Violet Ambrosia.

2020 burned, but we can still smell good. Cepes et Tuberose is my favorite and I horde my tiny bottle but will wear some today. Visiting the charming and delightful Aftelier studio and meeting the perfume Goddess (and son) herself is a favorite memory. Merry Christmas!

    What a lovely giveaway!

I have lusted over Atelier’s offerings but never tried any. I’m posting today because of Robin’s enthusiastic review of Candide. I remember when she posted her SOTD after buying a bottle, wearing it maybe a week straight?

Thank you for the giveaway. My favorite Aftel is Vanilla Smoke

Like others, I have never tried Aftelier fragrances, but did come awfully close to buying the Violet Ambrosia pomander a few weeks back. The fragrance that reliably sparks joy for me right now is Winter Palace.

I am yet to try an Aftelier fragrance,it would be really cool to have a chance!

Thanks for the holiday giveaway!! I am loving Mandy’s rose oil. I have been using on my face during this dry, cold weather and it has never been better….of course, it smells terrific too!

Chergui reliably gives comfort but which perfume will reliably induce joy very much depends on my prior state of mind. Right now Lush’s Calacas is making me as giddy as a 5 year old whose grubby hands are crammed with lime gummy sweets :D

Thank you for the giveaway Mandy and Robin. I’m a baby perfumista from Canada, so I don’t easily have access to a lot of different scents but I discovered Shalimar because of this community and while I’m paranoid about smelling like an old lady, I’ve thrown caution to the wind and it’s my favourite scent these days… Would love to discover more!

  24. therabbitsflower says:

Thanks for the giveaway, Mandy! My favorite Aftelier perfume is Honey Blossom. Such a pretty perfume.

  26. SarahN says:

Thank you for this chance! I’ve not tried any Aftelier but would like to. I’d say that Hiris always brings a smile to my face. So beautiful, iconic, and wearable… the uber-iris!

  27. Gennyleigh says:

Thanks for the giveaway Robin and Mandy! I love a lot of Aftelier fragrances but my favorite Aftelier is Cuir Gardenia. It is such a lovely animatic floral

  28. MossyBerry says:
    25 December 2020 at 12:02 pm

Thank you Mandy, and Robin! I’ve tried a few Aftelier creations, and Cuir Gardenia should have come to live with me before now. I just dabbed on my sample to remind me. Some years ago, Aftelier offered a set of classic scents along with Mandy’s book Fragrant: The Secret Life of Scent. I enjoyed reading and sniffing.

Thank You for this wonderful giveaway, Robin! I do not have a favorite Aftelier fragrance (yet) because I never had an opportunity to test anything from this perfume house, however I would love to try them some time!

  30. Nightingale says:

Donna Karan Gold reliably brings me joy. I often wear it in springtime but applied it today and can confirm…joyful! Thanks for the draw!

I’m throwing my hat in the ring!

The perfume that gives me joy is FM Eau de Magnolia.

Lovely giveaway Robin and Mandy. The perfume giving me joy this year is Amouage Fate; my favorite Aftelier is Cuir de Gardenia, followed by Parfum Prive. I tried to figure out how to visit Mandy’s workshop when I was in CA for a conference three years ago, but timing didn’t work out. Maybe another year.

  34. missyl says:

Thank you for the generous giveaway Mandy and Robin! I’ve always wanted to test Ancient Resins, but haven’t had the opportunity out here. Candide sounds delightful too. Santal Majescule (SL) always brings me joy. Happy 2021 to you all! You may use my email.

  35. Aurora says:

  36. teebear says:

Whaaaat! This is so generous! Thank-you Robin! That scent wheel looks so amazing (science ftw) and I haven’t been able to try any Aftelier yet so that would be such a pleasure to win!

My go-to joy fragrance is Jorum Studio Nectary. It’s never not the right time to wear it and it always makes my day better.

  37. ockeghem says:
    30 December 2020 at 12:36 pm

Thank you, Robin, for the giveaway! My favourite Aftelier scent is Ancient Resins, but I have to say I haven’t sampled her perfumes extensively so it would be lovely to win. (I do have a couple of her books, though, and made some lovely solid perfume following her recipe! I also like her cleansing oil.)

  38. adanst says:
    30 December 2020 at 12:44 pm

Hard to believe but I’ve never tried an Aftelier scent.
Bombay Bling is one of the perfumes that brings me joy.
Thank you both for the giveaway!

  39. allo says:

Thank you Mandy and Robin for this generous offer! I have enjoyed Mandy’s rose oil. The scent that is bringing me joy these days is Nuit de Bakelite. It smells wonderful and I happen to also love Bakelite. Mariage parfait!

  41. Dorsey says:

Oooh, neat! My favorite Aftelier of the few I’ve tried is Wild Roses. Cepes and Tuberose was fun too!

  42. stinker_kit says:
    30 December 2020 at 7:53 pm

Thank you, Mandy! My favorite Aftel is Ancient Resins, I have a hard time making a bottle of the oil last for a year so I am glad it is available in balm form as well!

  43. Amateur Dilettante says:
    30 December 2020 at 11:03 pm

How generous! I’ve only tried Cepes and Tuberose, and that was early in my journey so I should try it again. I remember being delighted with the strange (to me) pairing.
A perfume that never fails to feel joyful to me is Ninfeo Mio.
