Almost-Friday and World Philosophy Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Donna Karan Black Cashmere, because it's awfully cold outside and thegoddessrena mentioned it yesterday.
Reminder: on 11/20, for Bo Derek's birthday, wear a perfume that you would rate an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try (but frequently fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’ve moved on from Alkemia to wearing Dame Dark Horse. It’s my other favorite from this house, next to New Musk Man.
Did you see Dame added Dark Horse to the 45 dollar bundle specials?
You smell great!
I did see that, and I’m very tempted.
Ohhh noooo. I’ve been out of Dark Horse for a while now.
I keep hope in he’ll add BFMV. But, in a way, I hope he doesn’t. ?
*hoping
That’s the one scent in the Artist series I haven’t tried. But I bet you smell great, judging from the other scents!
You smell great!
Have you ever ordered from Dame directly? I just did for the first time about two weeks ago, but my order still hasn’t shipped. I reached out just to ask and received a lovely note saying that it would ship Tuesday, but still no confirmation! Hmm… once again, a good time to blame the virus.
I’ve ordered from Dame directly a number of times, but not in the past 1.5 years. Back in the day, everything arrived promptly and beautifully packaged, with lots of fun samples :-/ I hope you get yours soon!
I’ve ordered directly in the last year, pre-COVID, and all was prompt and lots of samples as Koyel mentioned. Sorry you’re not having the same experience.
I do love New Musk Man, very wearable musk…
Smelling divine in Gallivant Bukhara for my birthday! My full bottle blind buy present to myself, based on Lucasai’s gorgeous review. It is a beautiful iris scent with so many facets that I love. Right now I would say it is 11 out of 10! ❤
It will be a regular working day. Looking forward to taking a long walk in the park at lunch time and enjoying a slice or two… of Red Velvet cake when my youngest sister stops by later this afternoon with my baby nieces and her hubby. No special dinner until Thanksgiving. Counting my blessings today and being thankful for everything I have, especially the love of family, friends and my dog Yei!
Happy Thursday, everyone! ??
Happy Thursday indeed!
A very Happy Birthday to you! ??????????
Enjoy the visit and the new bottle!
Happy Birthday perfumelover!
Red Velvet cake..yum!

Happy Scented Birthday, perfumelover67! I’m quite pleased to hear that you got a birthday bottle of perfume that you love. ????
Happy birthday one of the sweetest, most positive people that just happens to smell classy every day! Raising my mug of coffee , cheers!
Happy Birthday!
I am so late today that you’ve probably already had your cake — hope it was delicious and hope the rest of your birthday is perfect!
Thank you, Robin! Cake was very good as well as the day. Resting now!
Happy birthday & enjoy your cake!
Happy birthday, PL67!
Happy birthday, M and congrats on the smashingly successful blind buy! ?????
Happy Birthday, pl67! ???
(Sorry I almost missed it.)
Yay for treating yourself to a new bottle!
Happy birthday, a day late!
Happy birthday (belated)!
I have been reaching for a manufacturer’s sample of Dries Van Noten all week, so that’s probably my SOTD today, too. I like smelling like cookies! I would score DVN as a solid 8/10 perfume. It’s a bit too linear for me, but it’s unique and interesting the whole time, and it smells delicious.
I was bummed that I couldn’t wear this. I had to choose between being able to breathe vs smelling good. DvN was the only perfume that had this impact on me.
Are you allergic to other things Hajsuuri?
Ugh, I’m sorry hajusuuri! That would bum me out, too.
MR – Were you writing an article about fitness and fragrance? If it’s done would you share the link? Apologies in advance if I’v confused you with someone else – I’m ditzy that way 😀
I am writing the blog post, but it will be a few weeks before I post it to the site. I share the blog with about a dozen other women, and we rotate who writes each day. I will be sure to share when it’s done! Glad you’re interested in it! Hopefully the nonperfumistas will find it interesting, too.
It’s funny because I googled fitness and scent and looked at a few articles on perfumes that would go with exercise and was pretty sure those recommendations were not from you!
I would agree with 8/10 — it’s a good no brainer and I am glad to have a small bottle but I don’t put it on and swoon or anything.
Yes, I think that’s why a few large samples is all I’ve acquired so far. As you’ve said before with other scents, I’d happily wear it, if a bottle fell into my lap! 🙂
for world philosophy day:
“In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.”
― Albert Camus
Keeping up with the CP and Chanel SOTD Cristalle EdT
Chanel makeup
brown leather skirt, beige sweater
Gorgeous! The outfit sounds lovely, and the cosmetics. I may join you with Chanel, makeup and perfume. I loved the Chanel eye quads. Their colors worked so well for me.
which eye colors do you like?
I have single color shadow and one with two colors
Eye shadows I love:
Singles, Magic Night (aubergine), Sillage, (petal pink with slight shimmer), Vert Khaki (golden khaki with slight shimmer).
Quads:
Kashka Beige (perfect for sepia-toned evening makeup)
Winter Nights (golden khaki, forest green with gold-flecks, a gold-beige and pink-beige for highlighting).
I have too many Chanel lipsticks to count. My favorites are:
Rouge Coco Shine – Deauville and Temeare
Rouge Coco – Experimental (bright coral-red), Misia (warm-peach-red), Gabrielle (muted brick red), Venise (90’s brown-red).
one of my most loved quotes.
Agreed! 🙂
Love that quote also!!! And yay for Chanel!
Hadn’t heard this quote! I hadn’t thought of the existentialists as a font of inspiring ideas. Probably need to read more ?
The whole of Return to Tipasa is available online now if anyone wants to read it:

Thanks for the link!
Inadvertently CP compliant in Ambre Narguile. I forget just how good this is. Fantastically spicy, warm and boozy, and perfect for the season.
I forgot how good it is too, until I wore it a week or so ago.
One of my favorites! You smell amazing.
Hey Koyel, I remembered you had a friend looking for Dot. I saw some today at tj maxx. Forty bucks.
I’m wearing vintage Cabochard today.
A gift from my dear departed Aunt. Sometime in the mid nineties she gave me her bottle of this and F de Fragonard. I sniffed them both and wrapped them in tissue and put them away for safe keeping. I didn’t open them again until someone here on NST mentioned Cabochard and I thought hey, I think I have that. Sure enough, packed away in my basement of trash and treasure.. twenty years later. Lol. It’s so gorgeous and lives on my shelf now. I’ve been able to date it back to the mid seventies. Definitely an 11!
I’m hoping one day to remember if I’ve put large amounts of money in my basement. ?
What a great story! Lol at finding large amounts of money down there.?
I know that somewhere is a gold pendant of the Virgin Mary that my grandmother gave me. Honest to goodness I can’t find it anywhere and I’m just sick about it. I blame her though since I learned this “tuck things away” habit from her!
Here’s hoping the chest of gold bars and rubies turns up soon
Fingers crossed! I need to put a better light down there, lol.
Lilyjoe, how does it compare to the contemporary version?
I’ve never smelled the current version or any other version than the one I have. Gres was never a brand that could be found in my area.
I’v only smelled the current one which I like but I think it’s probably a travesty of what it once was. Sometimes I don’t appreciate masterpieces and like dumbed-down contemporary versions though 😀
I like my vintage Cabochard too
??
I loved hearing that you got those bottles from your Aunt and just recently unearthed them!
Thanks to Nst!
I wanted to wear Satori this afternoon but i needed to catch a train (visiting my parents),
I ended up wearing what was in my purse (the last sprays from a decant of L’áme perdue).
Have a nice visit.
Your comments often make me smile; it makes me happy to see how well used that decant was.
? well, thank you for that decant! i ended up buying a FB because it had fastly become one of my favourite/most worn fragrances.
Hello all, my SOTD is Chanel’s Coromandel. I do think this is nearly the perfect fragrance for me. It hits all of my favorite notes: Patchouli, Orris, Benzoin, Incense, Olibanum, Amber, Woods, and Musk.
Lots of house cleaning to do today, laundry and dusting so I can spend the weekend playing. 🙂
I’ll make the chocolate torte and creamed spinach, this afternoon in preparation for tomorrow – they always taste better the following day.
First, shoes on and get my three miles in, so I can misbehave tomorrow!
Coromandel is wonderful.
Coromandel is as close to perfect as it gets, you smell great! Enjoy your walk.?
Creamed spinach, chocolate and Coromandel…divine!?
you smell divine
Woke up in Lyric this morning but switched to no 5 edp. Just wanted something a little less demanding. Besides I want to finish this bottle that I have had for the past 7 or 8 years. I was talking to my supervisor on Monday and she said that there is nothing about not being allowed to wear perfume. Fake nails, yes, perfume, no. So when everyone is gone, I can wear what I want.
Woo hoo for wearing what you want!
Still going to stick with little dabs. My supervisor didn’t get either on why, after wearing perfume to work for years was such a problem now. I think a coworker was doing some kind of power play thing.
Fleur de Peau, because Petunia wore it the other day. Perfect for a day of sitting in meetings.?
Hope the meetings go fast!
Are the meetings in person? or online..
If so you should spray more
Stinking to high heaven, or smelling heavenly in 4 sprays of Aromatics Elixir. To increase my fragrant aura I’m wearing the AE bodylotion as well. I happen to think it’s masterpiece that I actually thoroughly enjoy, YMMV.
It took me a long time to come around to AE. I agree it’s a masterpiece.
It wasn’t instant love for me either
https://www.theguardian.com/film/2020/nov/15/the-life-ahead-review-sophia-loren-comeback
Thiught you might be interested in this, The Life Ahead, based on a Romain Gary novel and starring Sophia Loren. I remember the Simone Signoret version from the 70s…now she coukd act!
Hope your week is going well
Thanks for that Kanuka! Ik loved La vie devant soi. It was the first Signoret I Saw performance and is probably one of her best. The book is a gem and was incidentally the one that delivered Gary’s second Prix Goncourt.
Stupid autocorrect! … The first S performance I saw and….
Oh you smell amazing!
Wow, four sprays of this is a lot, but this is a masterpiece. I even bought a BUB before they reformulate again…
Beautiful choice!
Wow. Four sprays of AE is not messing around!
Wow! 4 sprays and the body lotion is huge! You smell wonderful!
I love it too, and also Azuree and Clinique Wrappings (which I wore yesterday). So glad they continue to be available!
Une Nuit Nomad Ambre Kadjar. My hoodie smells delish.
A nice smelling hoodie is a good thing.
(It is shocking that there is not a hoodie emoji, btw. C’mon.)
I’m in 11 out of 10 for sought after – Shalimar Ode a Vanille, from a generous swapmeet decant. It is lovely. For all those who have been seeking it, consider trying the vintage cologne which is easy to find, and while not exactly the same (less floral, perhaps?), still ticks many of the same boxes to me.
agreed! I have both the cologne and Shalimar OdV
Update: OMG this smells soooo good!!
which version of the ODV are you wearing? Mexique or Madagascar
If only I knew. I’m pretty sure it’s the one that came first and didn’t have a designation? Is that the Madagaskar one?
I didn’t know in the morning what to wear for a visit at the office and for having a webinar for customers. In the end I grabbed Atelier Cologne Philtre Ceylan.
Ateliers make good last moment decisions, don’t they? It’s a versatile range.
Yes indeed
I’m wearing Bottega Veneta and just loving myself. This perfume is an 11 for me, not just because of the scent itself but also because I first tried it in Munich and I had such a great time on that vacation. I didn’t buy a bottle until I was at a conference in Denver, which was another fabulous trip.
Why yes, I miss travel. How could you tell?
My hometown, glad you liked it there.
I would be back tomorrow if I could. The only city I’ve ever visited and looked for apartments in the same trip.
Bottega Veneta is my SOTD too. A major love for me as well!
Bottega Veneta is good stuff! Where in Denver did you purchase it?
I bought it at a Nordstrom close to Boulder. Near or in Westminster.
Ah! My old stomping grounds! I know exactly where it is.
You smell great!
CocoaPink Triple Vanilla Dream today from a generous NSTer. 🙂
I am debating ordering some samples from DSH Perfumes w/ Robin and some other mentioning them this week and Hajusuuri kindly sharing bright20 to get 20% off. Haven’t tried anything from line but they have plenty o’ vanillas… ?
Hey! I was trying to forget about this discount! 🙂
You are so loyal to vanilla..
I picture you dozing off at night in a cloud of vanilla
It comes down to choosing a cause that deserves one’s loyalty – like Vanilla!
In DSH Muresque which is an amazing blackberry and wine scent. Love it. Went for my first eye exam in over 20 yrs. Apparently, I am near sighted in one eye and farsighted in the other but will be getting reading glasses. The dilation part will be next week when I pick up my glasses
If you waited 20 years I assume these are your first glasses?
No I used to wear glasses for distance but I don’t drive and am not in school looking at blackboards so I stopped wearing them decades ago
Gotcha.
I need a perfume with a biblichor note as I am spending the day at a book symposium, a series of lectures from academics etc. who can talk for hours about footnotes and concords etc. The theme is travel this year and it looks good. Might wear Journey.
I like sometimes to wear Bois d’Arménie by Guerlain when I read..
My decant is down to its last drops
Biblioteca de Babel from the Argentinean house Fueguia 1833 – old books, old wood, very nice…
Sometimes old books smell like a dry, woody vanilla…
What fun Kanuka!
Powell’s Books, the actual bookstore, is releasing its own fragrance with a biblichor note, but right now you can only pre-order it, I think. But doesn’t that sound like fun? The smell of a bookstore! And there’s always Commodity’s Book, though it’s more woody than papery, I think.
POTL Luctor et Emergo today. Certainly an 11 on the cult-following perfumista scale for the early 2000s and still unusual and enjoyable.
Looking forward to a bunch of DSH samples coming soon. Back to work now!
You smell wonderful – my split was an instant love for me.
Mito EdP today, it’s one of my favourite spring/summer perfumes.
Nice!
Popping in quickly to post this news link for Hajusuuri and other bird lovers:
https://6abc.com/tiny-owl-found-inside-rockefeller-christmas-tree-after-3-days-with-no-food-or-water/8089948/
Aww… poor little guy. Glad he is doing ok now.
Thank you Jalapeno!! That is such a cute owl.
Happy to hear all is well.
Thank you! I want to adopt the little guy ??
Wonderful link. Love it!
Glad to read he will recover and be back to his natural hábitat!
Thank you Jalapeno!
Wearing my most happy scent, and I think Deva will agree… Fils de Dieu. This lifts my mood every time I wear it. I think it’s my most worn scent since I went down the rabbit hole. Homemade ramen soup for dinner. We made the broth, chashu, Marinade and the eggs. Only the noodles were store-bought. Delish!
Homemade ramen! Sounds soooooo good.
where is Deva?
Where indeed is she, and the goodest girl?
Also have not seen Elisa P…
Last I heard, Elisa P was taking a break from perfume and swamped with work.
In Arizona.
Please pass on a hello.
I’m sorry I’m not in touch with her, I just check her instagram occasionally.
SotD original Tocade. Not a 10 but I like sweet and spicy amber. And that bottle! Hope everyone is staying healthy and having some nice weather like we are!
We are going to join you in nice weather tomorrow, hopefully…darned cold here all day.
Another sample from Jacques Fath today, Lilas Exquise… I sprayed lightly because I had to train an incoming Radiologist on the dictation system, which meant being in the same room, and I wanted to be careful. This is a very pretty lilac, sprayed lightly, and it still exists close to my skin after 8 hours! I believe I will wear this again tomorrow, with a generous application, even though it is not exactly seasonal…
A good lilac is so hard to find!
Yes it is! I have hope fir this one, but suspending judgement until I can evaluate its performance more thoroughly.
Sampling Parle Mois Chypre Mojo. It’s giving me that “Hey, what smells so good? Oh, it’s me!” kind of a day, so I think I like it, especially in the dry-down. It’s kind of like a fruitchouli and chypre had a baby.
Chypre Mojo. Love that name!
I’m in Tam Dao today – definitely an 11-out-of-10 scent for me!
Me too SheriG! And so is Philosykos.
Most definitely! I may just combine the two tomorrow and make it 22 out of 10! LOL!
Oh my what a day! I’ve already forgotten what I put on this morning.
But…I do recall the trail of my AuDeLa from last night. The oak moss in this one is so delicious. I have a bottle of Narcisse also but lead yesterday with Dryad by Papillion so didn’t want to duplicate my scents.
Ok, I posted this last night, does anyone know if we will see a 20% discount code come out for BlackFriday by Luckyscent?
I have my eye on Rouge by CdG…..
My list is so long I can only remember the top few.(shrugging shoulders!)
Last year someone mentioned 20% off but did not share the code. Sometimes the GWP is better…
Not sure about a code but agree w/ Hajusuuri…they often have good GWPs.
SOTD = Les Exclusifs de Chanel Le Lion
So good: at least 11 out of 10!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CHyLdXihwHS/?igshid=674ty8bxoqox
I posted late yesterday that my heater went in the fritz. I have a maintenance contract but skipped the maintenance in April / May because COVID and I had intended to set up time for the winter maintenance but time flew so here we are. Thank God it was not a fatal issue but still. I bought a personal heater and a room heater. So far I had opened the personal one and it worked fine for my needs. Had this gone on longer, I would have opened the larger one. That said, I actually found another portable heater so will read the instructions to see if I can go ahead and return the larger one.
For World Philosophy Day, I’m curious about your thoughts on the following:
A person got into a competitive school through nefarious means (sound familiar) but did 100% of the work and graduated with honors. After graduation, the whole scandal came to a head. Should the student’s degree count or should the school pull it back?
My thinking is he should keep the degree but have to do some kind of community service – tutoring high school kids or something?
this is very similar to the (not real for the specific case, but probably real in many instances) case I used in a class for many years: The high school student body president, a good student and in line for a good college, under intense pressure, cheats on an AP paper, and get caught. Should the high school inform the college of the honor code violation? Interestingly enough, my students usually are pretty non forgiving. A hypothetical we use for discussion, not a real case.
Re. your case: This is tough. Because the record of work is there, but technically, the student stopped someone else to attend in their stead.
Two things.
1. Keep the degree. I agree with Merlin on community service and tutoring. Definitely needed for these most challenging times in schools and a smart, capable person who used their opportunity (no matter how they received it) can reach and relate to the high school or people studying for GEDs.
2. Did you buy the Jasmine Leather?
I’m not sure if I should wait to see if Bergdorf’s is having the sale.
Keeping you busy!
Be careful with the space heaters! ( I know you will, but had to say it anyway, lol)
As to the question.. I say keep the degree.
I think Merlin has the right idea about the degree conundrum. You can’t really put an asterisk after a degree, like some other achievements that happened via less than ethical means.
As to your question, I would say they should keep their degree since they did all the work in school. However, they should be required to provide a scholarship for a student who wouldn’t be able to attend the school otherwise.
I really want to smell Le Lion
My horrible-mornings-week ended today. Tues and Wed my meetings began at 5 AM, and this morning at 7 AM. Tomorrow I plan on sleeping in until 7 AM–luxury!!
Am in Angels’ Share again. Usually vanillas don’t work for me–but this boozy concoction is making me very happy indeed.
I am going to get a bottle of this from Bergdorfs. It is wonderful!
Do share more thoughts. 🙂 How would you describe in comparison to Side Effect pls? I’ve read reviews on Fragrantica too but I know your nose so to speak. ? 😉
I already just asked ?.
Do you know if Bergdorf’s is having the sale?
Ooh…I need to try that one too…so many vanillas that come to market and keep up with!?
a friend of mine works for a company on the East Coast (always has worked remotely) and has to attend a 5 AM Zoom meeting most weekday mornings. Luckily, she can be off camera.
That is HORRIBLE. I am so tired. I had to look polished, but sounding polished was the real stretch. Hat off to your friend!
Huzzah for no more 5am meetings!!
World Philosophy Day!
Paraphrasing here. “Life is like a wrestling match?” Mitch Albom asks his mentor Morrie Schwartz. “Which side wins?”
Morrie laughs. “Love. Love always wins.”
Romance was my first 10, this morning, and changed to Angel this afternoon. An 11. Finding myself wanting new perfumes, but gravitating towards old friends. Like comfort food. Anyone else?
Definitely been reaching for comfort scents in the last couple of months.
Me too, although some are not longtime loves but new ones. I’ve been wearing a lot of L’Ambre des Merveilles lately, which is a new love, and Anne Klein II, an old love. Both very comforting!
This reminds me of a favourite:
‘when viewed with love, everything is beautiful’.
I have a bookmark hanging on my door with this and always thought it was Somerset Maugham. However, not finding it online I went to check AND I’v been misreading it for at least a decade! 😀 It’s actually a translation of a quote from Christian Morgenstern, a german author/poet.
Was referring to your Morrie quote above – but with regards to fragrance – yeah, almost all my scents are ‘comfort’ ones 😀
Ditto on all my scents being comfort ones in some way.
Thank goodness for something warm and familiar to come back to.
I see I am in good company with the comfort scents.
Love the quote! I’ll attribute to you, Merlin. You offer a lot of love here.
Thanks AnnieP! ??
I’ve found myself reaching for those considered classics….
Wearing vintage Shalimar edt today; definitely a 10+. It’s just getting to the very smoky dry down!
Good call Gail.
Song of the day:
https://youtu.be/EJGykmmBjP4
Today was another hospital run for me. This time, it was to pick up a friend who had cataract surgery. Her spouse wasn’t able to make it during the day, so I did. She was surprisingly lucid after the anesthesia and operation.
SOTD = Oriza L. Legrand Reve d’Ossian, from my newer sample. It is still recognizably the same perfume as my older sample. The floral notes are a little more prominent in this newer sample.
Was she alert enough to compliment your scent?
Nope. But I was also heavily bundled up… when I left my house, it was 35 degrees F, or 1.6 Celsius. Frosty! ?
Oh wow! Yeah – it’s bundling up weather all right…
Oingo Boingo! One of the best names ever! Lol?
Their music is pretty darn good, too! ?
My cousin was a huge fan. He used to make fun of me for “still” listening to Journey, lol.
Ugh. I don’t mind people sharing the music they like, but I draw the line at being ragged on for liking what I like.
You are a good friend.
My SOTD is Bottega Veneta and it is definitely an 11/10 for me. My car has been successfully towed to the body shop for assessment, we’ve moved and gotten mostly unpacked, and today my package of samples from Indigo arrived. Very much looking forward to getting into it!
Glad to hear that you’ve survived the move!
I’ve heard goods things about BV. Glad your move is happening and I hope you will love your new home!
Yay!
Will they be able to fix your car? I pictured it crushed.
Hove Camellia
Lots of wonderful scents and quotes today. Thanks, NSTers, I needed that. ❤️
I’m in House of Matriarch L’Arrivee, amber and resin and something vaguely syrupy. This one wears close to the skin, but I can still smell it after twelve hours. Wow!
Thursday’s SOTD was DSH’s Smudge Nebula, an “energy-clearing spritz” which I love. For today’s “11 out of 10”, I’m debating between Papillon’s Dryad or Bengale Rouge, or 4160 Tuesdays’ Clouds Illusion. I could also pull out Montale’s Intense Cafe, which is one of the few fragrances I’ve worn that a total stranger approached me to compliment. From 20+ feet away, at an outdoor garden center! And no, I wasn’t drenched in it.
In Carnal Flower. This was one of my early favorites and has stood the test of time and sillage. Definitely an 11 out of 10.
And as Chandler Burr wrote: “Carnal Flower is a blossom flower with the impact of a baseball bat.”
And what a lovely baseball bat it is.
Thank you for the inspiration Robin!
