It's Floriental Friday! (Also, Mole Day, and a few birthdays: Johnny Carson, Pelé, Anita Roddick.) Our community project for today: wear a floriental, if you have one.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I went with Serge Lutens Datura Noir.
Reminder: on 10/30, we're doing Emotionally scented...wear a perfume that gives you a strong emotional response (it makes you laugh, cry, feel sad, or becomes part of your armor to face the world, etc). Suggested by johanob, who gave the example of Guerlain L’Heure Bleue, which makes him feel sad.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try (but frequently fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

In Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady for the cp. ?
Happy Friday, everyone!
You smell fabulous PL67. Plus you are FIRST!
Portia xx
Thank you, Portia!?
YUM. Lovely!
Thank you! ?
Oh,you know I ADORE PoaL!!!You smell DEVINE!!
HAPPY FRIDAY!
???
Oh dear! Every time I wear POAL I remember you. I have made it your signature scent! No way to wear it without thinking of you, which is great! ??
????
If I were to get a FM travel spray, it would be a tossup between POAL and Superstitous.
Difficult decision! Both are great scents!
When I think floriental I think mid-eighties to early nineties (before Calone took over), and so I am wearing vintage Spellbound — very floral, very oriental, very beautiful (of course it is, it’s Sophia Grosjman). However, my bottle has started to go seriously off: it’s a dark, dark amber colour that it shouldn’t be, and the top notes are skewed, almost as much as the flowers in the middle, which have gone sweet and one-dimensional. But I can see through all that to what it once was, like looking at a painting with dark aged varnish and seeing (or remembering) the colours underneath. It used to be so good!
OH, You smell fabulous Pyramus! Spellbound is gorgeous, and a favorite from EL.
We are twins, except I have the current formulation. So so good! I’ve been revisiting Estee Lauder big time lately…..
Yes, you are into EL these days!
You still smell amazing!
Glad you reported on vintage changes in Spellbound. I have a vintage parfum mini of Spellbound, and your experience is similar to what I had. It is one of the Lauders that I don’t know and E**y is always tempting with an FB. I will check it out again this weekend. TMI, but Estee Super Perfume in vintage pushed me further down the rabbit hole. I call it my signature; and it is very good in the current version; every time I wear it I wonder why I haven’t in so long.
Hey NST,
During the morning today I was totally on trend for the FCP wearing Divine EdP. Perfect aldehydic floriental that was gorgeous in our spring sunshine to walk the dogs.
Then after lunch I spritzed some Encens Jinhae, which had the flowers but not the rest. It is short lived but lovely.
For an early dinner as a cooling cucumber fresh cologne spritz I hit 360° Green by Perry Ellis which has the amber but not the flowers.
Tonight I wanted something heavier so loaded up with Halfeti Leather by Penhaligon’s. It has almost no flowers and zero the rest.
About to have a midnight bubble bath. For bed I’m going to wear Caleche by Hermès. Another glorious aldehydic floriental.
Portia x
You had a fabulous scented day! ?
Yeah, it was a blockbuster.
XX
I love a day like that! 🙂
I love days like that, you’ve smelled great through it all!
Thanks Ringthing! x
Wow, thats a lot of scent, but you sure smelled good every minute
Thanks Tannina. XX
I love Divine, have you ever tried the extract ( l’Eternel Feminin)?
Oh yes austenfan,
I have a bottle of the Divine extrait too. It sits a bit close to the skin for me but it does have a deeper, richer roar. I had no idea it was named that!
Portia x
Divine EdP is amazing! Such a pity that the line never really took off here in the US.
Hey Jalepeno,
I think it is a sleeper house almost everywhere. One of the things to love about it. Only we small few know.
Portia xx
Taking things too literally with Kenzo Flower Oriental, because I am in no shape to come up with an original thought or perfume choice this morning.
Happy Friday to y’all!
YAY! and you’re wearing Kenzo! I bet he is smiling down on you.
Portia xx
We were almost twins! I also thought about wearing Flower Oriental or Flower for today. You smell great!
I kept looking at my bottle of Flower, too!
It is a beautiful scent, despite not reaching for it often.
I think that’s pretty clever in itself, so good for you!
2nd — perfect choice.
This CP, was stumping me! I now also have some KFO on, which in my classification is a “gauzy, summer oriental”…
I was going to try to find the dregs of a decant of De Profundis for today’s CP, but then read Portia’s post — if Portia says Caleche is a floriental, then floriental it is! I have a vintage(ish) travel spray of the parfum and will spritz that on post-shower. (Hey, it’s early here!) Happy Friday everyone!
HA! Caleche has flowers and amber, isn’t that the rule for Floriental?
It smells fabulous, YOU smell fabulous.
Portia xx
Those are indeed the rules, and I hope to be forgiven for smelling more leather than amber in Caleche. ? In any event, thank you for the suggestion and the compliment. ?
House twins!
I love Caleche, I have smelled it in ages though
I love it too, and think my little travel spray may be near thunk territory – the spray is very weak all of a sudden. Oh well, it’s an excuse to investigate the other formulations – have been curious to try the soie de parfumerie concentration. You know – for science. ?
And that’s “soie de parfum” of course. My autocorrect has gone a bit crazy recently.
Well whatever Caleche is,you smell glorious!
??
Thanks johanob! It apparently fits into several categories – Victoria at BdJ calls it a chypre, and I guess I can see the argument for that as well.
Nice, now there is a category(chypre) that I can participate in for more than just a week!Haha!
I have a vintage Caleche in edt,and even that is GLORIOUS…lol.
?
Another Caron this week for me – Montaigne EDP. I disliked it when I tried it first, but then it grew on me. This is something I would enjoy wearing rarely, but when the mood is right (like today), it smells great.
Nice !
Montaigne is so beautiful!
Twilly!!!!
LOVE Twilly!
Ah, forgot to mention, I finished Aristotle and Dante Discover the secrets of the universe book, someone on this feed maybe last year(??) recommended this book and I added it to my long list.
As I said to my Italian tutor this morning re: this book
“Ho riso, ho pianto” I laughed, I cried.
Wasn’t it a wonderful book? SO loved it too.
Tilly is great! Maybe I’ll go for that post shower later…
Posh Spice.????
You know I love you
Love you back!?
I’m wearing Jubilation 25 today for my final floriental for a while. I think I would have enjoyed this week more if it were colder here in Texas, but its been in the mid to high 80s all week. I may have to go to greens or citrus or vetiver for some time after this CP.
We are hitting the 30s in South Africa so I hear you! 😀
80s is not generally floriental weather…but I would happily trade weather with you!
I know what you mean! Can’t wait for the mid-60’s they’re forecasting for next week.
Hitting the CP squarely in Commes des Garcons Floriental from a lovely NSTer.
I was waiting for someone to wear it! You deserve double CP points. 🙂
BOOM! Struck gold. X
Twins!
Woke up a little later than usual in Deneuve and had to help my dad get his riding lawnmower out of the ditch. My dogs are finally getting their Barkbox today and they will be so happy. But they have to wait until I get home. Switched over to LADDM to fly under the radar at work. I think that I will wear Coco Mademoiselle tonight.
The image of your dad riding the lawnmower into the ditch made me smile. Although of course I hope that everyone was fine!
I got a funny mental image of Catherine Deneuve riding a lawnmower!
Deneuve is a very elegant perfume. I wore it frequently back in the day.
I hope dady is doing OK!
He is doing good. He didn’t flip it or anything. Just slid into the ditch, he said he got a little too close.
Good morning Y’all, and Happy FriYAY!
Wearing a teeny weeny spray of Estee Lauder Spellbound for the Friday challenge….this is probably the only floriental that I can wear to the office without overpowering folks. It dries down very softly and fades in about 4 hours. Good stuff! I’m really into the classic Estee Lauders lately…
Have a great weekend everyone!
You smell great Jada ! I am also starting to try some of the classic Estee Lauders during my shopping trips. The most recent one I tried was last week — Estee. I liked it a lot.
You smell lovely and Estée Lauder is well represented in my collection as well!
Oh that’s a nice one for summer- when NOT in the office. You smell lovely.
LOVE EL’s classic perfumes, and Spellbound is one of the few I haven’t sniffed! I must remedy this soon…
My cp scent for the today is Czech & Speake Dark Rose, and I am drinking a cup of Russian Country tea.
Ohhh, what’s the Russian Country Tea like? The hubby loves all varieties of tea, and I’m thinking of starting holiday shopping early.
That tea sounds enticing.
I’m wearing Dzing! today. I just always associate it with October for some reason.
Today is the last day of first quarter at the school where I work. How has a quarter of the school year already be gone? ?
Ohh ❤️❤️❤️ Dzing! Wore it earlier this week also and was reminded of how much I enjoy it.
Love Dzing! I told the story on here before: a Bloomingdale’s SA erupted into peels of laughter once when I told him I liked that one. Too funny. Now it just makes me think, “I must be part of a special perfumista tribe, then.”
Interesting – wonder what he was thinking? And yes, you are part of a special tribe. Dzing! is wonderful.
YSL Cinema for the cp and because it’s so great. Extremely happy that it’s Friday and we’re supposed to have sunshine for the weekend (Seattle). Hope everyone has a great day!
Twins!!
You both smell wonderful!
Very nice choice
Cinema IS warm golden sunshine! I ❤️ It!
Enjoy the sunshine SpringPansy! X
Joining the project with Ormonde Jayne Royal Elixir.
Covid situation is getting worse here and we have new restrictions from tomorrow. My company is also closing its 2 offices from Monday…
Stay safe! It’s getting difficult all over Europe now…
Stay safe out there. It’s difficult in so many places. OJ perfumes are stellar, she makes beautiful, bespoke perfumes.
It is also getting worse here. Let’s hope for better times to arrive in the near future. Be safe!
Stay safe
Stay safe! So will you be working from home full-time until the offices re-open?
No, not me since I am a lab, not an office worker…
Getting worse here, too — and Canada was just taken off the EU list, so I won’t be booking a flight to Germany any time soon. Sigh. Fortunately a friend of mine got home to Germany to visit her parents and then back to Canada just in time.
Be safe and be well!
Good luck over there Lucasz, Poland is scaring me right now.
Portia xx
In a hefty dose of Guerlain Shalimar Parfum Initial for the CP. Tried the discontinued batch with the L’Intial in the bee bottle! Maybe the voice is a little deeper but the quality of L’Initial I always loved was the beautiful iris note in the opening and that is still there!
Initial is gorgeous!
I have compared also, I found them to be the same. You have a better nose than me…
I think it might be the dab from the Bee container versus the spray from the regular bottle. Some fragrances are really different depending on application.
Coincidentally, I just put an older stoppered bottle of Shalimar in the freezer to open up. I don’t think I’ve tried L’Initial. How would you compare it with older Shalimar?
It is literally the anti-Shalimar. Gone is the zesty opening and there is no skank in sight. I did not care for Shalimar for along time. I discovered the vintage EDC and that is my Shalimar of choice. So we know that citrus top notes are amongst the first to go in vintage bottles, so I have a preference for a flatter opening, enter L’Initial. It is a very soft floriental and there is unmistakably Iris in the opening but I fear if you are expecting the heft and clear pedigree of Shalimar, you will be disappointed.
Thanks, it sounds like it would be more versatile, anyway.
Woo hoo! You are very patient!
TGIF everyone!
My SOTD is Lancome’s Magie Noire extrait. I wanted something I hadn’t worn in a while for today’s CP. I thought I was mostly in the chypre category of scents but after doing research on Fragrantica’s olfactory group page, and looking at my collection, it turns out I just have too much perfume! 😀
I had to flip a coin between wearing Sheherazade by Jean Desprez (glorious Oriental Floral fragrance) and Magie Noire.
Coffee consumed, shoes on and I’m headed out the door. I’ll check in later!
If anyone wants to do a search for Floriental perfumes, the Fragrantica link is here:
https://www.fragrantica.com/groups/oriental+floral.html
Ha, I did a search and I am not a floriental fan, I think
Tannina, are you more of an oriental fan? Or Floral fan?
More oriental, green or animalic. I have some florals, but not a lot. And I love Chypres
Mmm, Magie Noire is perfect for the witching season! ?
I’ve always loved the beautiful Sherazade bottle (and assumed I would love the fragrance, as well), but I’ve never gotten that one. Good on you for having it!
The bottle is what attracted me in the first place. And you can definitely tell it’s in the same lineage as MN, Bal a Versailles, and other 80’s power house perfumes, that’s for sure!
I get loads of powdery carnation from Sheherazade. It’s great for night time.
Good to know, thanks!
Both of those perfumes are incredible. “Everything but the kitchen sink” in a good way to my nose.
Mon Precieux Nectar, for a floral oriental adjacent sort of scent..flowers, nuts and spices, incense underneath, pretty pretty pretty… 🙂 TGIF – I have had such a week. Next week is a work from home week, so I will have a better schedule. Having my commute be walking upstairs to the computer nook with a cup of coffee, is much less stressful than the 45 minutes on I94 and then grappling with fall road construction in Ann Arbor… to get to the hospital every day.
Stay safe and well, everyone who is in the way of a COVID surge.
I am going to make a real cream pie this weekend, which is basically 3 cups of cream, 5 eggs, some honey and some vanilla, with a sprinkle of cinnamon, nutmeg or allspice, depending on my mood. All baked in a nice pie crust like any custard pie for an hour, but silkie and yummy beyond belief (and also rich to the point of being a heart attack waiting to happen, which is why I only make this a few times a year!)
Have you heard of Kardea Brown? She’s a chef specializing in Gullah Southern comfort foods. I found a recipe on her instagram for Sweet Potato Pone topped with whipped Egg Nog. There’s no cholesterol here….. 😯
https://www.instagram.com/p/CGS8k-bj8mI/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet
You smell lovely!
*takes one generous spoonful of your pie, declares myself full*
Can I have a slice, pretty please?
Good luck with Covid and commuting. I hope in the future your double Cs are all Chanel, meredifay!
Having grown up in rural Long Island, and in Sarasota, with a large Mennonite population, I love anything cream and pie, coconut, banana, caramel, chocolate. You name it.
Now I want pie for breakfast….
How have I never heard of this pie?
Were your internet issues resolved?
And the pie sounds divine!
That pie sounds fantastic.
Please save me a piece of that absolutely-delicious sounding pie!
You are in Ann Arbor? Me too! Maybe I will see you at a library smell and tell whenever Covid is over. I will be the girl with curly hair who inevitably asks too many questions.
Sorry about your commute
Oh cool! Once it is safe to be non socially distance, we should get together have a little meet and sniff.
That would be so much fun!
Wow, that pie sounds absolutely decadent!
Not sure if Reve d’Or counts as an early floriental, but it has similar elements: spice, florals, creaminess. So I chose to count it as such and am wearing it today.
You smell so good, it’s a little gem.
It’s Friday at the apocalyspe!
1) SOTD: Tom Ford’s Noir pour femme- two light spritzes. My sweater is going to smell amazing for the next few weeks!
2) The weather shifted into frost territory this week, with lows in the upper 30s at night, and chilly mornings. I feel so sad for my tomato plants, which got a second wave of growth and flowering after the rains returned- they are so bushy and happy! Same for the peas and nasturiums. I am tempted to build a quick cover- but they need to be pulled out. It’s time to put that garden bed to rest. 🙁
PS : Anthony Hopkins, actor, teacher and artist extraordinaire, is now also a perfumer. Check it:
https://www.vogue.com/article/anthony-hopkins-fragrance-wellness
Interesting – I wonder who did them (it?). Thanks for sharing.
I love nasturtiums, and you’ve made me realize I haven’t seen any here in my neighborhood for a long time. There seem to be plant fads and fashions –everyone must be shopping at the same nursery!
I’ve read that the buds are edible and a bit spicy — have you ever tried them?
Oh nasturtiums are not only cute, they are tasty! If you like watercress, you will like nasturtiums in salads! All spring and summer I put them in salads- both the young leaves and the flowers- and blended the young seed pods into pesto. In fact that’s what I will do tonight- make a batch of pesto! Also, these flower will make seed pods and then reseed readily- these plants are from LAST YEAR in the same plot.
I, too, love my nasturtiums in salads and they look so pretty as a border around my herb garden. Didn’t know you could make pesto out of the seed pods, will have to check that out. Thank you for mentioning!
You can use the seedpods & the leaves in the pesto as well! I combine with basil as well using it solo!
Amazing, I always loved the cheerful colors and the unusual lily pad-shaped leaves, but I had no idea they were so useful, too!
You probably know this, too, but pesto freezes well.
Oh the flowers and leaves are so cute! I love them- but boy oh boy they will take over a garden bed if given have a chance (in my climate, anyway)
And yes, the idea is to make a batch and freeze into cubes for pepping up soup and sauces later on.
I’m a fan of nasturtiums, too. Perhaps next spring I can go to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum to see their annual display.
Have never been there. I need to start a post-Covid priority list!
Yes, it’s unique. Definitely worth a visit!
Is that the place that got it’s artwork jacked?
*checks* OMG, it is!
That’s the one. I remember the Vermeer and the Rembrandt vividly. Such wonderful works!
What stands out most in my memory, however, is something that, on my first visit decades ago, a very kind security guard pointed out to me: Rembrandt painted himself in as the 13th apostle. ? Not to mention the fact that he depicted one of them getting sick over the side of the boat, lol!
SotD = Twilly
Twinning with ltsg in Twilly, yay! Such a happy scent for me, I adore the little bottle, and think fondly of kind NSTers every time.
It took me about 10 wearings to finally have Twilly click for me in a satisfying way.
I thought about Shalimar for today, too, so she is on deck for this evening.
Sending fantastic, fragrant Friday vibes to everyone.
You! Smell! Beautiful! 🙂
I almost did Twilly today! But I probably need to wear it 5 more times to see if I will fall in love…so far, no.
I had a hard time finding a scent, but finally wore Adam Levine. Nice, but not totally me. Maybe I should have worn Agent Provocateur instead.
I also think Adam Levine is a little too fluffy/opaque. I tried it twice and both times kept hoping for ONE clear note to emerge!
I forgot about the community project and randomly picked Ellis Brooklyn Sci Fi to wear today. It’s a vanilla/green tea scent that’s kind of odd but extremely alluring. Today’s the first day I’ve worn it and I keep sniffing my wrist!
Well that sounds tempting then!
Thanks for mentioning this. I just sent information on the brand to my friends from Brooklyn.
I’ve tried three of their scents so far (Salt, Sweet, and Sci Fi) and liked them enough to order the Adventure layering kit from Sephora. Salt and Sweet are both straightforward, very nice scents (and Salt reminds me of my beloved California) but Sci Fi is just so STRANGE, in a good way. If your friends try any of them, I hope they like them!
Getting CP points with Ubar. Hadn’t realized 4160 Uhura’s Tokyo Cafe is also a floriental. I put it aside for trading or selling – too linear for me. Loving Ubar but don’t think I can leave the house – projecting a lot!
Breakfast was a cappuccino and a Madeleine, lunch appears to be limited to Pirate Booty unless something magically appears in the fridge.
Have a wonderful day!
Ubar might help to reinforce social distancing — unless you run into a fellow perfumista. ?
At least Covid will be a great excuse to load up on patchouli forcefield fragrances this winter. ?
I love the idea of a forcefield!
You smell wonderful!!Curious as to which bottle you have, the original or the standard new-ish Amouage bottle?
Happy Weekend!
XO
Thank you, johanob. I have decants of both. Sadly no real bottle but it is on my buy list. The original is even more powerful, perhaps a bit less blended and smooth. What do you have?
I have a fb in the standard Amouage bottle! It is beautiful!I’ve never understood why Ubar and Beloved does not feature alongside all their other perfumes at our local retailers though.
Happy Weekend!
XO
Lucky you! Have a great weekend. Maybe I’ll go on a perfume sniffing expedition.
And Nordstrom is having their buy two, get one mascara weekend, if anyone is near Nordy’s.
I’m still scent free after the newly re-opened dog park. I’ll have to rehearse a friendly spiel to the maskless dog owners there, as the city can just shut down the park again if there is not enough compliance….anyhow! Hair cut yesterday took ages but I’m a very happy customer sporting a vintage-y shag 🙂
Happy Friday!
Wonderful about the hair.
I paid a visit to my dental hygienist yesterday. (It’s not a risk I like to take, but my teeth love to go wrong and cost me a fortune, and they have great Covid procedures at my dental office.)
My hygienist explained she was using Covid PPE as cover for experimenting with home hair coloring, and after the cleaning she pulled off her cap to show me the most wonderful cut and color.
So I can imagine how great you look, and send my congratulations!
Thanks! (she says while scratching her head – hair colors make me super itchy but I don’t want to wash out the styling just yet! 🙂 )
YAY for haircut success! ?
Happy Friyay!…to mirror the lovely JadainGA. 🙂
Wearing Gallagher Wicked Good.??
Was googling salary negotiation and doing research in preparation last night if a promotion offer comes to fruition. Based on what I read, many people don’t like to negotiate in general especially women…and then there are biases when women do ask for things often.
If anyone has any promotion/raise negotiation pointers to share, I’m all ears. 🙂
No specific pointers, but every time the percentage increase was stated, I’d always say something like, may we improve on that a bit?
And then the percentage would invariably increase some. My bosses were always amazed by the employees who, when given their raise amount, would just say “ok.” You don’t ask, you don’t know!
Have you checked what the new title has as a range on LinkedIn and Glassdoor in your region? Also think about what a man would get (forgive me NST guys) – .30 cents more on the dollar – and factor that in.
I’d also ask for a better title. A good title matters going forward, and it’s the least expensive thing they can give you. If it’s senior manager, for example, ask for Director or Associate Director.
If they don’t bite, probe to see if you could tie in a quarterly bonus based on some achievement or productivity number.
All that said, I am a terrible negotiator and have zero poker face :(. Good luck!
I was wearing Ortigia Lime Blossom perfume oil, but will go and spritz Datura Noir to join Robin.
Hope they play together well!
Particiating in l’Heure Bleue parfum de toilette, getting lots of orange blossom from it today.
participating – typing on my phone.
And that will work for next Friday as well 🙂
Ah, yes you’re right, Robin! I had not realized 🙂
Lots of people enjoying goodies from Guerlain today!
Guerlain has so many orientals probably because of the vanilla of the guerlinade.
SOTD = MFK Ciel de Gum
Somewhere it’s listed as a floriental so I am giving myself credit!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CGsWkccBZCo/?igshid=1245d2wo6fae4
It’s been quite the week and I am glad it is FriYAY! Tomorrow, we celebrate my nephew’s birthday so looking forward to that. In the flip side, my township’s COVID cases have skyrocketed and while there is no widespread shutdown, yet, some schools had to switch to 100% online. I think people got lax and/or the virus is now more contagious but less severe? Not for any specific reason but I started to double-mask 3 weeks ago: cloth mask first, then a paper mask, neither of which are rated as healthcare level PPE.
I love Ciel de Gum! Oooh!
I don’t wear ot as often as I should!
House Twins! I’m in Oud Satin Mood extrait. Rosy, powdery, yummy.
We both smell good!
Have fun tomorrow with your socially distanced shindig! Be safe.
Finally decided on Mahora edp for the CP. I just love it. And I like the bottle too.
Do you have the bee bottle? ?
Hi Calypso. No it’s the original style. But I like Bee Bottles, only I still think it’s more fun to have a special bottle for each perfume. I think the name changed to Mayotte when Guerlain went with the bee bottle.
I agree! I think having a different bottle gives the perfume more of an identity and character. I hate uniform bottles… except Chanel, lol.
Mahora is a gorgeous summer scent… it shines in the heat!
I don’t have the exact explanation of floriental per se, but I’m calling Poison one. Actually I just sniffed the bottle from 1987. The little tiny one. I think it must be the greatest perfume, even better than Opium. If the new version is similar but lighter, I may get some.
Poison is indeed a floriental 🙂
I love this fragrance and I feel like the modern formula just cannot compare with the vintage! I have a precious mini from the 1980s too!
SOTD is CdG Floriental, because I am Just That Lazy 🙂
Who knew retirement could be so busy? Between yard work and what looks to be a year-long project of going thru every cabinet, drawer, box, etc. I am fully occupied.
I’m as behind on my retirement to do list as I used to be at work! ?
The very lovely Sacrebleu from PdN. One of the first Nicolais I got and mostly because of Luca’s wonderful review. It’s been lovely outside during the past few days and the colours are just stunning.
Fall and fall perfumes are the best!
While I love autumn, I must admit to having a slight preference for spring. The colours in Luxembourg at this time of year are out of this world.
Perfume wise I whole heartedly agree. Give me a floriental anyday.
I’m looking at the map and marveling at how much farther south DC is than Luxembourg. I used to like spring a lot more when I lived in more northern states.
I’ve yet to experience a Luxembourg spring but I’m it will be wet and delightful.
Apparently I am in an Aromatic fougere,Gaultier’s Le Fleur la Cologne…I LOVE this fragrance!
In the last dregs of a bottle I bought probably around 2013/2014…Everyone says orange blossom,or african orange flower. For the most part I get a straight-up sweet pea!And I love it!!
Happy Friyay!
XO
I just saw a suggestion of mine is up next week for the CP!Yay!Cannot wait to read what you guys will choose!??
I will do your CP all week, me thinks!
ciao bello
Oh yay!I shall try my utmost best to do it with you!?
you must 🙂
Really wish I had bought that one — you smell great!
Thank you Robin!?
You’re getting ready to thunk another bottle, aren’t you?
THUNKED…!Where is my other thunk-buddy CM8?I’m even more on a thunk-roll than last year!Haha!??
Guerlain is a fruitful place for florientals, according to Fragrantica. We’re off for a 4 hour drive to celebrate my MIL’s 85th birthday, and I’ll accompany that with a toich of Nahema.
Best wishes to your MIL! ?
Happy Birthday to your MIL, wishing you a beautiful visit and memories to cherish.
Hiya scent twin! Safe travels, and Happy Birthday wishes to your MIL.
You smell wonderful, and have a safe trip and yay for family time!
I put on Shalimar today before thinking about the poll. It will be an ideal choice for next week’s poll: I have a five-decade, fraught history with it.
If I had thought of the poll first, I would have gone with Ormonde Jayne Taif, a rosy orientaliste par excellence that I love in the fall. ?????
ah Shalimar, you can come sit next to me. But spray enough to keep my social distance 🙂
Shalimar can readily oblige! ?
Shalimar will show up for me in the CP for next week
Me too, most probably
A beauty,I will definitely pull out the Shalimar myself for next week!!
Loving the fact that NST’ers do a whole week for the Friday cp’s!!
?????
I like your poll idea a lot, johanob!
I hope we have fun with it next week, even with the sad or melancholic perfumes!?
I’m really curious what will show up in terms of fragrances!
I’m in Lyric today. That sample’s nearly gone. It’s not lasting as long as usual today, so I may switch over to something else at some point. (Was thinking I might go see if I can find Poison in a store to spray, for a walk down memory lane, then remembered COVID and sampling. Sigh.)
I did L’Heure Bleue yesterday. Hadn’t worn it for a long time, and it was lovely to go back to.
A rainy end to a very long week, and apparently the rain could turn to snow (very unusual here). I’m ready to hunker down for a hygge weekend, I think.
Oh my, early for snow! Enjoy your hygge weekend…
Robin, you smell great. I wore that one for last week’s CP.
I’m in Tom Ford Shanghai Lily for the CP. My little decant has been evaporating so I need to use it or lose it. It’s a lovely spicy lily.
Last day of work before my vacation next week! However, it’s a staycation. I just need an overdue break from work. Been debating with the boyfriend whether or not we want to do a nearby getaway for a couple days, but I have a feeling we won’t. He’s off with me for some the week.
Ooh, you do smell good! I was almost your twin in Shanghai Lily, but my decant of the Opium was even further gone than the Lily, so I went with O. Enjoy your vay/stay-cay! 🙂
Yay for vacation, stay or no stay!
w00t w00t for a work break!
Hi all. I’m wearing St Clair Scents Pharaoh’s Passion today and think it must count. Heavy florals, narcissus and rose, plus spices plus benzoin and labdanum, etc. I prefer this to the one it was paired with which seemed to attract more attention, the Aubrac one.
Spent lots of time online and on the phone filing reports with the police and post office and bank over the check that got stolen and rewritten and cashed. There’s a batch of these cases here now. I could say something snarky about our post office management but must refrain.
Narcissus? I know you must smell great. Sorry about your ordeal with the check!
wow! that is some ordeal!
How awful!!I hope it gets resolved asap!??
Oh, that perfume sounds so lovely! I have resisted falling in love with another new line, so I haven’t sampled, but I fear I must now.
Enabler pin for you today! ?
If you do, I also recommend Eve and Casablanca.
*moves St. Clair up the list*
??
I have not been keeping up with NST this week. So sorry you’re having to deal with a theft!
I couldn’t decide somI got both ?.
I hope the check fraud issue hets resolved quickly. Did the cops catch the theft ring?
It’s still too early to say, but I’m in touch with two other women who have had the same problem, same post office. Each lost way more money than I did. Mine was just under $5000, theirs were higher amounts. The criminals “wash” the checks and re-write the payee and then someone cashes them. All the names are different. We’re all dealing with our banks now. I’m hopeful that my bank will cover it, but it takes time. At least we have names of suspects and places where the checks were cashed. Mine was the monthly payment for Mom’s fees in assisted living!
I went with Opium Eau D’Orient Poesie de Chine from a sadly-evaporated (sob! sniff!) STC decant. I’ve pretty much given up on buying decants. On a happy note, though, TGIF!
I gave up decants for the same reason…but sorry about yours! IIRC, that was one of the better Opium flankers.
I wish I would have known about those Opium flankers when they were available in stores.
IMHO the most aptly named fragrance is Jean Patou Sublime (vintage ‘90’s edp in the bud bottle) – it truly is! My favorite October scent and choice for today’s cp, it captures the magnificence of autumn’s peak here in the Midwest. The bright orange and ylang-ylang of the sun’s rays shine through the golden vanilla amber on the reds and golds and oranges of the trees in their resplendent fall foliage below. The muted florals soften to a powdery bottom with a touch of coriander to add a bit of spice. It is rich and classy, yet warm and comforting – especially on a dreary, rainy, chilly day like today; it provides the ‘sunshine.’ I don’t remember how I first stumbled on this radiant gem but I’m so glad I have a backup bottle of the original as I believe it’s either been reformulated and is but a mere shadow of itself.
Wishing everyone a good weekend ahead, whether your ? is real or imaginary!
I bought a bottle back then and would kill to have it now. It got lost amidst a number of moves.
Sounds lovely!
My hubby bought a new tv which arrived yesterday. Now that we have the new one, we are moving all 4 tv’s around. The broken one is going to recycle so has to be moved into the vehicle; the main/living room one is going into the bedroom; that bedroom one is moving to the spare bedroom and the brand new one will be in the living room. OMG, could we (and by we, I mean he) make it any more complicated? Probably not! lol.
Pretty sure that is the reason I had to put on more perfume throughout the day. I started off with Tocca Cleopatra from a rollerball; it’s reminiscent of SJP Lovely and lasted all of 5 minutes. So I dabbed on Organza onto the back of my hand (from a cute mini). Something in that was really sweet so I had to wash that off. Changed that up to be wafting Orris Tattoo right now! May need a refresh shortly.
Happy Friday everyone.
I chuckled at your TV post. We also got a new TV this week. Mr. Laila loves it! ?I think it’s gargantuan and an assault on my eyes! ? My son says, ‘You’ll get used to it. ‘ ?
The new one here is huge too; guys and tv!
Haha!TV-roulette!Shortly before the Covid-storm I removed my television to the storage unit, all part of my “capsule living” ideal!
Oh, that’s a perfect description! Can I steal that?
Haha!Go ahead!???✌?
This means you have to live it too ?
Mr. Jalapeno and I are still rocking an old cathode ray tube TV. It’s the only TV we have, and we’ll use it until it goes kaput.
Oh wow, good for you! It seems some of the newer ones crap out quicker than the old tv’s. We tried to troubleshoot via some youtube videos but it seemed the problem was tied to the chip inside.
Does “Mon nom est rouge” count as floriental? I mean, it’s got rose and is inspired by a novel about some intrigue in the palace of the Ottoman Sultan …
Anyway, I feel that that was the closest I could get to today’s CP.
Please tell us more about this scent! That is one of my favorite books of all time!
Oh yes, sure. And sorry I didn’t give more details right away – given that the scent is part of my usual rotation, I completely forgot that others might not be familiar with it.
The scent is by the brand Majda Bekkali, who, judging from those of her fragrances I have been able to smell, seems to specialize in scents that have rather prominent resin notes and thereby exude a certain warmth without becoming in any way sweet or cloying (although the latter might depend on the personal tolerance for certain notes – Mon nom est rouge, for one, is certainly big enough to make me suspect that it might feel overwhelming to some).
As for Mon nom est rouge in particular, as I already hinted at, I basically regard it as a rose / incense composition. The “rose” part in itself is a combination of rose, geranium and pink pepper, and therefore emphasizes the sharp aspects of rose oil (or whatever the exact type of essence might be), somewhat similar to the sharp edge in Nahéma or – to get even closer – to Flowers Barrow by Lush (unfortunately it’s too long since I smelled Malle’s Une Rose and Geranium pour Monsieur to remember how strong the parallels would be with those, but it seems to me that there might also be some points of similarity). When it comes to the incensey part, unfortunately I’m not yet familiar enough with the various incense materials or possible reference scents to be able to be really specific. The incense is, however, neither of a particularly sweet variety, such as benzoin or labdanum, nor of a particularly churchy type. The best I can manage is by placing it in a kind of colour spectrum. If you go from amber (the stone, not the note, even if the latter perfectly embodies what I mean with the character of the colour: warm, without a metallic sparkle and therefore enveloping rather than uplifting), towards gold (still warm, but already with a metallic brilliance), towards silver (again with the metallic brilliance, but cool and somewhat austere) and finally towards lead (cold and dull, even dead), the incense in Mon nom est rouge feels to me like a warm silver. As I said, I’ve no idea how exaclty the perfumer created this effect – it might be that the pink pepper gave something that was originally warmish the necessary edge that made it go from “golden” to “silvery” or that something “silvery” was made warm by way of the various spices that are listed both on the brand’s website and on Fragrantica but that to my nose aren’t identifiable as such and just serve to enrich the overall composition.
All in all, as one might expect from the long list of notes (19 on Fragrantica, 20 on the brand’s website), this results in quite an expansive perfume, so it does tend to make a statement and is not really what you would usually call “office-friendly” – but then who needs office-friendly perfumes anyway 😉 Still, if one is careful not overspray, I think it is quite wearable, both by a man and a woman. And with a little less restraint on the trigger, I think it would also be absolutely brilliant as a woman’s red carpet scent.
Hey I just made half homemade chile. Pretty dang proud of myself! Lol
I’m wearing vintage Raffinee, thanks to Gorgeous Gail. Frangratica says it’s a floriental, so I guess I’m good.
I got screwed out of 5 hours of overtime for last week, but got it adjusted for next week.
Good for you on the chile! Now go stash half of it in the freezer! Guess I’m the bossy sort. ?♀️
How do you make half homemade chili? I’m curious!
How is it half, pray tell ??
I’m in Chanel Paris-Venise. It was hot today, but a thunderstorm ushered a cool front through so it’s lovely out there now. Fragrantica classifies this as an oriental, but there’s some floral to this one, so I’m taking cp points.
I did see my daughter on Tuesday, and we had a lovely lunch! We walked around and window shopped, and enjoyed all the Halloween decorations. We were good and didn’t go in any stores, but dang it, the used bookstore was so tempting!
I’ve been scarce this week, but wanted to pop in and wish everyone a happy Friday! ?
Glad you were able to see your daughter! And you smell good, of course!
Thanks! It did my heart good.
Happy Friday to you! Sounds like your Tuesday was wonderful.
It was so nice to finally see her! I need to make a post-Covid goal to get back to Cali and see her.
It’s gray and cold here and I don’t feel like walking but I always feel so much better afterwards, so I’m going.
I’m wearing the mother of all florientals, L’Heure Bleue. Created the year the Titanic sank and still selling. Beautiful stuff.
House twins!
Weird weather redux: another strange day starting off with fog and drizzle, ending up with sunshine. Tomorrow is hopefully the last day of this pattern. The morning grey is beginning to get on my nerves.
However, on a happier note, today was the final day of repairs for the drywall! The patch was sanded and primed, and is now ready to be painted. Our ceilings are a mess, though, and they all ought to be re-painted. Mr. Jalapeno has decided after a couple of DIY attempts some years back that paying someone to paint ceilings is well worth the money they are asking.
SOTD = Guerlain Nahema EdP, from the sample stash. Many thanks to the NSTers who mentioned that it is a floral oriental. It’s perfect for today. ?????
You smell fabulous! I just discovered Nahema this year, thanks to NST’s own Jessica’s report on it. It’s a top shelf now.
Thank you!
It was still gray this afternoon but I chanced it and walked closer to home – 5k!
The clouds took their sweet time burning away today here, too. Means it was a good day to get a load of laundry done.
Good luck with the house projects. I would be like Mr J about painting the ceilings.
I think that any painting projects will be put off until next year at the soonest. We’ve had a couple of unpleasant surprise repairs this year with the house, and I’m ready for a break!
So late to the party but what fun I’ll have reading later this as my bread bakes!
SotM Xerjoff Renaissance 1861
Not CP complaint but Dr’s
Ofc chic.
Now I am awash in Alahine!
Where is LTSG! Thanks to her I found this one. Oh I love it so.
Wore Soivohle Rosa Sur Reuse for the project yesterday but forgot to post
Also didn’t have time to post… and I’m just in Oeillet Bengale. All week.
