It's Almost-Friday and Global Handwashing Day. (Plus, World Students' Day and a couple birthdays, Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche and Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse). What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: staying cozy in Donna Karan Black Cashmere.
Reminder: on 10/16 we're going back to the beginning...revisit a fragrance you tried in your early days as a perfumista. Suggested by springpansy.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try (but frequently fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Jeremy Irons for Donna Karan, year unknown but a long, long time ago.
I’m in J-Scent Soft Skin from a sample which may or may not be one of the grandma scents my daughter complained about the other day, we shall see. We made pumpkin bread with dark chocolate chips yesterday afternoon and it turned out delicious if I do say so myself. Poor kid needed cheering up after meltdown number 2 this week over online schooling. This is only week six. It’s gonna be a long year. Then I got a text from my college daughter last night that she’s been in contact with someone who tested positive, so she will go get tested today. Fingers crossed that she is negative.
I hope she tests negative!
The numbers are going up on my campus too. A colleague has two students who tested positive and instead of going to the sick housing the university provides they checked themselves into a hotel room cuz “it’s nicer.” Mind-bogglingly irresponsible.
Thanks!
Geez. My daughter lives off campus this year with just one roommate so it will be easier for her to quarantine if needed. We live very proximal to the biggest university in the state and the numbers are going up here too.
I am glad she will be able to easily quarantine. It’s hard to deal with having to move someplace else when one is not feeling well.
I work at a university that turned its conference center hotel into isolation/quarantine housing for students!
The housing my uni is providing is one of their dorm buildings, which are actually quite nice imho – but perhaps expectations about student housing have risen since I was last a student. I know the room and board prices certainly have!
OMG, the expectations for new student housing here in the US are crazy. Older dorms are still more like what I experienced. I did think it was brilliant to use the conference center hotel; we’re’ not hosting any conferences this academic year, and the hotel would have been almost empty anyway. They use it as a central location also for the weekly testing all on-campus students must have, and the testing offered to staff and faculty, as well as workspace for a team of quarantine coordinators who stay in touch with affected students on or off campus. It’s very well organized. Costing a fortune, though.
Fingers crossed!
I need to get tested for an uocoming trip to Cape Town as well!✌?
Thanks johanob! Fingers crossed for you too!?
Fingers crossed for a negative result! Also, please send me some of that bread.
My son is in college and hates online courses, so my thoughts are really with everyone’s kids right now having to learn in a way that may not be best for them. Ugh.
Thanks! Well, we made 4 mini loaves, so plenty to share.?
Yes, online learning is definitely not for everyone. My teenager has always been a good student, but has had some technology issues that have frustrated her to tears. She’s like me that way.?
Oh no! Hope the test is negative!
I put on my sample of Chanel Coromandel. I just cannot do it! I suppose it’s the patchouli. Had to shower “again” and take a Benedryl. It’s the only scent from Chanel that I’d love to love but just cannot wear. Oh well!
Pumpkin bread sounds yummy!
My youngest is a JR at University. He is not much of a social creature so I don’t worry so much.
I do hope your daughter test negative!
My oldest daughter is in her 2nd year of college and is seriously considering taking next semester off. She absolutely can’t stand online learning and feels like she’s being “cheated” a full experience. Can’t really blame her!
My younger daughter is a HS Junior and was struggling before anyway, so digital learning is simply a nightmare. I believe she has the choice to go back to the classroom on Monday, so I hope that happens….
My freshman son is a Freshman and has been in the classroom since August. Best thing that could have happened with this boy…..LOL
Numbers going up here in Seattle at UW as well. How would they not? Crossing my fingers for your daughter!
Thanks!
Right, all those kids living in such close quarters. Plus that age comes with that sense of invincibility, expecting them to not be social is expecting a lot!
Exactly.
Wishing good luck to both daughter’s!
Thanks lillyjo!
Keeping fingers (and toes) crossed!
So many of our kids at school are experiencing difficulty. The isolation is so hard for them. I just wanna reach out and hug all of them and their parents too.
Kudos to all the parents juggling everything from home, talk about a crash course in teaching, tech support, research techniques and a whole slew of other skills in addition to working from home.
Thanks ST!
Yes, the sense of isolation is getting to her I think. She’s a huge bookworm, but still…..kids need kids.?
Fingers crossed. One of my two daughters, both living at home, tested positive almost two weeks ago after having symptoms. She caught it through her teaching job. She felt rotten for several days and has lost her sense of taste and smell, but she has now recovered and is out of isolation (she was living in the finished basement level of our house). The rest of us stay quarantined at home for a few more days, but at least we can all be together again! I hope your daughter doesn’t catch it. If she does, I pray she has a mild case.
Thanks OH! It’s good to hear your daughter’s case was mild and I’m glad she’s recovered. Most people in my daughter’s age group have had mild cases, so I guess that is somewhat reassuring….??
That’s what I kept relying on to stay calm (and of course, I didn’t want to alarm her). I did have her do some things that couldn’t harm and might help, like taking daily Vitamin D and aspirin. I made her lots of home made chicken soup with anti-inflammatory ingredients like turmeric. Also had her running an air purifier in her room to remove viral particles, and a diffuser with some essential oils. I did make sure we had a pulse oximeter in the house in case it seemed like her oxygen levels were changing, but we never had to use it, thank goodness.
Hope you are all well
Thanks, so far so good! We all tested negative the week after she tested positive, but the health authorities ask that if you’ve been exposed, you stay quarantined for a few days longer than she has to, now that she is symptom-free and has tested negative. It’s not as if we were really going anywhere much anyway. But I’d like to go to a botanical garden this weekend, so I’m glad we should be free to do that on Saturday.
Glad things have turned out well. I imagine it was scary upon first hearing the diagnosis.
I hope you can! I’m so glad to hear she’s safely through her illness.
More crossed fingers for you. The pumpkin bread sounds wonderful.
Thanks!
I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed!
Thanks!
Fingers crossed! So hard!
Oh no! Fingers crossed that those test results are negative!
Love that photo , I can help him with his sleeves.. ?❤️
Smelling fabulous today in Parfum Sacre by Caron
Beautiful weather
Parfum Sacre, always very very good…
When I was moving I found my bottle, reunited and it feels so good
Another beautiful perfume
Send me some beautiful weather!
Ha!
Beautiful weather twins.?? (although we have snow in the forecast?)
Here they said we might get a mix.
Yuck! The dreaded wintery mix, I’d rather have just plain snow.
So true! I grew up in New England and spent several years in NYC, so very familiar with the mix. Snow is better, and prettier!
Rain on tap in my area tomorrow. It’s gonna get clammy.
A friend wore Sacre in the 90ies, she smelled fabulous as you do too
Its perfect for autumn, very cozy
You smell beautiful.
That picture may come from the good old days of Brideshead Revisited. Whew, I just looked it up—1981–forty years!!! Eek! My best friend was so madly in love with him. I kind of liked the blond guy. Those were the days! My favorite role for him ever was in Dead Ringers. Creepy, brilliant, tragic.
Parfumerie Generale Bois Blond – long discontinued – from my dwindling decant. This one took me way down the rabbit hole and into the warren. It goes from slightly bitter green to an amazing drydown of hay, woods, amber and musk. This one taught me to wait for the drydown before making a judgment.
Trying to remember know which perfume taught me that…don’t think I remember!
I love this perfume. The hay ?
SOTD = testing a batch of DSH samples I found in a corner, some iris, some orange blossom. One OB is sweet and comforting, the other has too much pepper. The irises, one is all carroty roots, which is ok but not fabulous at this point in time, one has a hint of the dreaded (for me) tobacco note and is therefore a no no, the third is iris with flowery flourishes and seems to be quite lovely. I am listening to a meeting, so I can’t go check names right now – I will try to update later.
Very nice pic of Jeremy Irons… slightly rumpled linen is usually a good thing…
Ditto re: Jeremy Irons
yes, I’ll take a slightly rumpled Jeremy Irons any day!
I’m wearing Beeswax by Demeter, one of my early go-to houses. I love that the half ounce bottles are so cheap. I always got the little bottles, because at that time they didn’t offer samples.
Cheap and they are available at some drug stores, which I appreciate!
Continuing with my testing of the Kulfi sampler that I received this week. Today it’s Kulfi Mango. Might be a little too fruity. Thus far, I’ve tried the Orange Blossom, Mango and Rose flankers, and my favorite is definitely the Orange Blossom, which I think goes really well with the gourmand notes of the original.
Almost Friday, peeps – although that means a lot less than it used to.
Really? I find that Fridays mean more and more to me. Whenever possible, I shut down my computer and work phone for the whole weekend and feel a freedom and lightness that I don’t feel from 7:30am on Monday morning to 7:30pm on Friday evening. Just me?
Also, you smell lovely, fellow Kulfi sampler twin
Pistachio was my favorite, followed by rose, and actually the OB was my least favorite. The floral note felt a bit jarring to me. I guess there’s something for every kulfi lover in there!
Since I am working from home, every day seems the same, and all of them include work, sadly.
I do smell lovely! Tomorrow will be devoted to the Pistachio, which I have very high hopes for.
I agree with you about Fridays! I log off at 5 and don’t check email all weekend until Sunday evening, unless I’m expecting something that will need handling. My colleagues all have my cellphone and know to just text me if it’s the weekend or evening and they really need me to read an email. I was told to do this by a doctor who was alarmed by my chronic insomnia and stress levels. It helps.
That’s a really great idea – I need to try it!
It really helps. And the only reason I check on Sunday evening is so I don’t get ambushed with something on Monday morning that I could have dealt with earlier. I still get ambushed, but usually only by things that came in Sunday night or earlier on Monday.
In Gallivant Istanbul to warm up
That’s a good one!
It is! And lasts forever…which actually make me get tired of it by the end of the day
About to leave for the vet’s office. Wearing my lucky pearls and wearing no 19 edp. But before my shower, I was in Coromandel. It feels so strange to have a day off during the week but my personal holiday days are expiring at the end of the month and it’s a use it or lose it and I am going to take them.
Take them! You smell great
I’d take every single one! You look and smell fab!
Yes, use them up! I love days off during the week.
Don’t give away precious holidays and make the most of it…
Pearls and Chanel are a fabulous combo!
Is everything ok with your pets?
Well, Jake needs surgery to remove a fatty tumor. Something with a little piece of it turning to liquid. He said that surgery was the best option before he develops nasty stuff. Good thing our vet is reasonably priced.
Black Cashmere! You smell great, Robin, I almost wore it today. I’ll wear it tomorrow.
Wearing PotL, thanks to springpansy. I smell delicious if I do say so myself
I will say so too, and you will tomorrow as well
And I agree! Good stuff.
Le sigh….Jeremy Irons in The Thornbirds.
Le what the what…Jeremy Irons in The Borgias(LOVED the show)
Paco for a chilled day of pretty much sleeping, eating and listening to Roisìn Murphy’s new album(the song from 2012 Simulation features.I fell in love back then already!)
I thought for a minute it was Friday,I am off until next week Tuesday!Yay me.
Happy Thursday!✌??
Woo hoo! Enjoy your days off!
Woo hoo, enjoy your days off!
Enjoy the mini vacay! You smell great!?
Enjoy your time off!
Thanks everyone!?❤️
Jeremy Irons in The French Lieutenants Woman with la Steep.
Ohhhh, YES!
Enjoy your days off, johano!
Thanks Gail
Thornbirds was Richard Chamberlain, if I remember correctly…
But I certainly would help Jeremy Irons take off his shirt….
OMG,you’re right!Haha! Why was I thinking Jeremy Irons?Lol!But they both have that rugged look, which is kinda attractive!
I think my reference for Jeremy Irons was The Mission,in the priest garments,in my mind.
Loved that movie, and have not seen it since it came out.
Jeremy Irons in anything… Have a wonderful break!!
Enjoy chilling out for a bit!
Back to my 7 virtues sampling project in Orange Blossom today. It’s lovely—semi-sweet and a little indolic, but no moth balls. These all seem to be pretty straightforward, materials-focused scents but of surprising quality.
Yep, no surprises but they did a good job!
OJ Sampaquita because even though it’s October it’s still a million degrees here this week. This one doesn’t get as much attention as some of the others, but as soon as I sprayed it I thought, “soooo pretty!”
I did find my rings yesterday, in case anyone was wondering lol. In a random drawer of my jewelry stand I rarely use. No idea why I put them there, but at least they’re found and on my hand….AND I managed to find them before the hubs knew I couldn’t for a while ha!
Also, add me to the list of fans of that Jeremy Irons pic!
I think all of the OJ scents are so pretty. Glad you found your rings!
Glad you found your rings! It’s always nice when you can solve a problem before having to tell someone there was a problem, lol.
Lol? true!
Nice work! I bet you’re super relieved.
Yay for finding your rings! ?
Super groggy today. I’m taking the kids for a flu shot. Then housework, then picking up extra hours at work tonight.
Sotd is Alien leather version. I’m joining other’s here in the Jeremy Irons picture fan club. Nice!?
OH, I LOVE Alien (and the Alien Liqueur de Parfum version) but I haven’t tried the leather version. What’s it like on skin?? Like I need another unicorn to love…
And yes, I do love Jeremy Irons.
Smelling great, lillyjo! I almost wore that one. Plus, that bottle!
I have that version of Alien, too!
Amouage Crimson Rocks today. Nothing to do with early perfumista days.
Oh how is it? Have you tried the other new ones?
Yes, tested all 4 and written about 1 so far.
Hi all, my SOTD is Bandit extrait. My grandmother wore both Fracas and Bandit, my love of both perfumes comes from her beautifully-scented hugs. I adore the galbanum in Bandit, it blooms so beautifully in the heat. Today’s SF weather is going to be scorching, mid-80’s on the coast….
I’m hard-pressed to pick a scent for tomorrow – true to my indecisive Gemini nature, I’d say all the perfumes!
Oh, and I found an interesting article on how to push through a book
reading slump.
https://lifehacker.com/how-to-break-a-reading-slump-1845349056?utm_source=pocket-newtab
I had my first book reading slump during the beginning of the shut down but Ferrante series saved me.
Today I’m wearing Hermes’ L’Ambre des Merveilles — so soft, warm, comforting! And great for October weather here, which is cool, not cold. Leaves are just starting to turn. I think I’ll celebrate this weekend’s coming release from quarantine by talking my husband into going with me to an area botanical garden that has wonderful Japanese maples and mountain views.
That sounds like a lovely outing!
And you smell terrific.
Thanks! Yes, this particular botanical garden is one of my most happy places. It has 30-40 MILLION daffodil bulbs up and down hillsides, and there’s nothing like it in the spring. But it’s beautiful in other seasons too, and those Japanese maples are extraordinary.
I think a nice outing (especially outside in fall) is good medicine for all of us right now! I’m thinking of where might be a good hiking spot this weekend…..
You smell sooooooo good today!
Thanks! I take it you live in Georgia, from your log-in name? So do I! Lots of lovely choices for walking and hiking.
Yes indeed! In the suburbs of Atlanta and ready for a good fall hike this weekend! Stone Mountain is close, but there’s so many places in North Georgia with waterfalls and mountains….Maybe I’ll pick somewhere new!
You smell wonderful and your outing sounds divine!!
Thanks! I hope I can make the outing happen; my family have gotten so used to being home all the time that it can be hard to budge them, lol.
Started my new project on Monday full speed ahead.
Friday’s are half day’s yay
My own laptop crashed. New one waiting for me at Best Buy pick up tomorrow. Good thing I am earning twice as much!
Whew!
I have the itchies so no fragrance today.
Yikes but at least you were able to get a pick up replacement in short order!
Thank goodness for the well deserved salary bump! I hope your itchies go away soon.
Hurray for better pay and new laptops!
Oh BOO for your laptop crashing!
Crazy, busy week working on a dateline to be met next week. No time to breathe ?
Wearing Tom Ford F* Fabulous. I saw my decant is kind of evaporating, so time to start wearing and enjoying it.
Back to read comments later.
Happy Thursday! ?
You smell F* Fabulous, just like the perfume states lol!
Lol! Thank you!
I’m glad you noticed the evaporation early enough to enjoy the rest of the decant! I hope you can breathe soon.
Thank you, Sistine! Time to use that decant regularly now!
Yuck. I hope that you get some breathing room this weekend. How’s Yei doing?
It will be a nice weekend when I see my baby nieces! ?
Thanks for asking for Yei. I am waiting for the results of a biopsy he had yesterday. I am very worried! Hope not to get bad news.
Fingers crossed for not bad news!
Thank you, Lillyjo!
I’m making pulled pork in the slow cooker today and planning a lemon curd tart for later. I’m wearing Champagne de Bois.
Kanuka, an arborist is coming about the tree. He’s booked until late December because apparently I’m not the only one worried about the effects of the wildfire smoke.
Set a place for me! Yummo…..
House twins!
Yummm!! Jada and I will be right over haha!
Oh YUMMMY!
Lemon tarts are delicious! When things reopen, the hubby and I love going to Calistoga to the Calistoga Inn. They make a to die for lime tart. It’s lick the plate delicious.
Jeremy Irons…..yowza yowza yowza!
Wearing Guerlain Insolence Eau Glacée, which I haven’t worn since May. Thinking for some reason that I liked it more then in hot weather? Anyhoo, it’s good stuff not that it’s dried down to the iris and musk….
*NOW that it’s dried down”
You smell wonderful. Insolence edp and the Eau glacee have a lot going on and are always happy and uplifting to me!
Sounds beautiful!
Fils de Dieu, one of the first FB, that I bought after the rabbit hole. Still a favorite and my most worn perfume until now.
Robin, thanks for finding this picture, I love Jeremy Irons….
So, had NO idea JI was such a hot property around here! Maybe I should just run pictures of him every day
I wouldn’t complain. Although I’d miss the teapots.
Surely there’s a pic of him holding a teapot somewhere!
??
You small great.
Smell. Ugh!!
A beautiful day here, but I am feeling blue…..had a difficult political discussion with a close family member. Tense and sad. Trying to let it go, but it is persistent. I am sure that I am not alone in this situation, so let’s all take a deep breath and press on.
Need to wear something comforting, something with jasmine usually works for me. Give me all your suggestions.
Jasmine is not a comforting note for me, but Jo Malone’s Jasmine Sambac & Marigold is a near-gourmand and like a cosy blanket.
Go with incense.
I adore jasmine. But this may work better.
Or lavender.
I’ve had difficult conversations intra-family and we agreed not to do family Zoom until after the election but only if none of brings up the topic of who won / lost etc. I also lost a “friend” in July who could not stop herself from imposing her views indiscriminately and in hindsight, that friendship was really more social (at least to me anyway) than anything I would lose sleep over – sounds callous but life is too short.
I’ve learned that sometimes friendships aren’t meant to last a lifetime. People drift into our lives, stay for a while, and drift out. We only have so much time and space. It’s okay to say goodbye.
I’m having a terrible time now dealing with a wonderful friend who is married to a man I find increasingly monstrous for his political views. It’s causing me to back away from the friendship and I feel sad and guilty but can’t cope otherwise.
That’s really hard. I’ve had that a couple of times and chose to see my friend only at times like lunch or coffee when I didn’t have to interact with him.
The prolonged duration of Covid is frying everyone’s nerves and bringing out the worst in most all us occasionally.
We are all in the same boat even though it doesn’t feel like it and I am worried about one of my friendships as well. Trying to stay away is huge!
Awwww. I’m so sorry Calypso.
Agreed!
Samsara is gorgeous.
*HUGS* to you.
So sorry jepster!!
You’re not alone. I just have to avoid all such discussions.
I’m sorry. You definitely aren’t alone. I’d suggest California Reverie – it’s not pure jasmine, but it’s there.
Oh yes, agree with this suggestion. CR has a bees wax dry down that is SO comforting – AND some citrus to uplift, all going along with a delicate Jasmine.
I’m sorry — it’s so hard these days. I read a lot of news and stay well-informed as best I can, and I just can’t take getting into political discussions with folks who won’t do the same. Comfort scent: Have you tried Adam Levine for Women? It’s a bargain beauty, and it has jasmine. I find it comforting because it is mostly about sandalwood, vanilla, and spices, but it also has jasmine, marigold and rose. It’s really nice, and cheap!
You aren’t alone having difficult conversations with family. I love my brother dearly, but he has gone off on topics I have repeatedly told him not to a few times lately. We do argue, but usually make up a few minutes after the dust settles.
Got any SSS Incense Pure in your stash?
I’m wearing some vintage Miss Dior today! I had this scent very long ago and am glad to have this again in my stash.
Ohhhh …… did u watch the FM video earlier this week? He speaks of Miss Dior and a new design with a wistful look back and nod to French Lover as it was also loved by Pierre Boudin who created French Lover. . They discussed it as the made FL and so it was folded inadvertently into that perfume. I found that charming.
Check it out! I am as well.
Yikes typing fast before take off- let me re translate:
Both men loved Miss Diot, they fashioned FL in its likeness due to all the fun conversation during the creation.
Ooh, I just added vintage Miss D to my collection and she is a stunner! You smell mahvelous.
I am getting lots of beautiful amber and cinnamon today with Bengale Rouge. Boy I love this so and it opened my eyes to considering Shalimar. I know, can you imagine? I was a slow developer.?
‘All in good time my pretty’ pops into my head.
I have the worlds BEST TEE shirt for the CP. tomorrow. I will quote it because I cannot find the photo. I am still working on it.
You will laugh I promise.
A presto
A presto!
Movies not yet mentioned: Dead Ringers and Damaged. Add me to the Jeremy Irons fan club!
I haven’t managed to wear any of my early perfume purchases this week. Somehow, all the stay-at-homing has made me turn to much more introspective perfumes than the ones I wore in that period. Most recently – musks – which is also funny because I’m definitely anosmic to some. SOTD Santa Maria Novella’s Muschio Oro.
Yum you must smell amazing!
Thanks Angela! I’m a little conflicted as some of the time it smells like a really strong and somewhat astringent detergent. And then at other times I pick up more grounding, spicy nuances. Some point out animal notes but I can’t find any myself.
Wow! That does sound like a challenge, I would assume her musk is really lovely. Are you able to match it to the notes listed?
There are two musks in the range. Muschio is like a very soft warm butterscotch. On some forum someone said it smelled a bit like cognac and I get that too. Muschio Oro is very different – like many reviewers point out it is definitely very soapy and has some citrus facets.
Oh yes I already raved about Dead Ringers above before scrolling down! He is so amazing in that role, playing identical twins who at times imitate each other! He won the Oscar for it, and deservedly so.
I think he is generally great at portraying people who are psychologically conflicted. And introspective. In fact – the first time I saw him was in Madame Butterfly – I was a kid but I still have a sense of his final monologue in it. No one does intense like JI!
Also a fan of Jeremy Irons! Especially in one of my all-time favorite movies (and books), The French Lieutenant’s Woman.
What kinds of perfume did you tend towards in the early days?
Jalapeno – I think I couldn’t pick up subtle notes so well earlier on. I tended to think many perfumes just had little to no smell
I think I did like spicy – for instance my first niche perfume was Ourzazate and my first classic was Coco!
Wearing Violet Shot today. Not on the CP at all!
But drop dead beautiful!!!
Love it! I have my travel spray!
I am awaiting my return to Arielle’s shop to purchase.
Did you try Iris Or Rose Shot?
I have the Iris Shot travel spray as well. The Rose Shot is nice but it ranked 3rd so am holding until I’ve tried the other Shots before deciding what’s next!
Smart. I went in looking for Iris Shot and liked all of them. A Rose perfume is always a challenge for me although I adore fresh ones. I really liked it initially. I can’t wait to re try.
We ran out of nested comments! I also bought a full set of the Shots sample set so I have enough Rose Shot to make a final decision.
One load of laundry, starting my packing and looking forward to early dinner with friends. Mitsouko for me, which I wear less often than I should. A gift from my husband many years ago. Probably warmer weather than I would normally like for this one, but it does smell nice today.
I remember Irons from Brideshead Revisited…which was such a huge deal but I didn’t watch. No idea why I didn’t. I did see him on Broadway in The Real Thing by Stoppard. That voice!
Ooh, where are you going?
Wisconsin again.
Oh wow! Where to this time, if I may ask?
Door County again
Be careful, they have some of the worst stats in the country.
Yep. We are aware, but can’t delay this trip, unfortunately. I will be extra cautious, and will be leaning on my husband to do same. I’m packing extras of my supplement regime, which includes Vitamin D, Zinc and N-A-C.
Ok HERE IT IS INCASE II am not around tomorrow! Visiting daughter dear in Denver!!
So funny!
https://www.sheshow.com/marty-dont-ever-go-to-2020-tee/
EXCELLENT.
Love it!
??!
Awesome!
SotD = Assam of India
Black tea with lemon for my imaginary literary friend Bertie Wooster.
Must say I am grateful to Robin and everyone for the discussion in the last lazy weekend poll. It was good to read every word and comment a bit. Emotional and mental health concerns feel less heavy when shared.
Happy thankful Thursday to you, my perfumed pals.
I’m so glad tiffanie!
I agree with you about shared concerns. Big hug to you tiffanie!
Hugs tiffanie. Always happy to see you post. ?
Sampling Le Labo Santal 33 today. So far it’s a beautiful true sandalwood on my skin.Perfect for a beautiful autumn day with a crisp cold morning.
Lucky you! It smells fabulous on other people but on me it smells like kosher dill pickles.
Actually, Sistine, I think it also went in that direction on me ? The Noir is the only Le Labo that works on my weird skin.
Still mulling over my CP scent for tomorrow. Today is Tempete d’automne from the Jacques Fath sample set, which does not fit with CP. But it is nice on our first day of chilly autumn rain. I’m smelling creamy sandalwood and spices with just a whisper of musk. Earlier this week I got out my Paloma Picasso vintage-ish edp which was from the early days. Not sure though if that is the most evocative of the start of my fragrance journey.
SOTD = Sonoma Scent Studio Forest Walk
Resinous earthy amber ?.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CGX5i8IhTnA/?igshid=1xs6gaehqdogk
I suppose I can consider this as doing the CP. Looking back, I think I started commenting on NST in late 2011. I had no clue about indie / niche (perfume is perfume) and I was introduced to Andy Tauer (Dark Passage) and Laurie Erickson (Forest Walk plus samples of a bunch of her works) in 2012.
I have a few choices for tomorrow as I have decided not to go much farther back than 2011 / 2012.
Yeah, I don’t have much from my true early days. I might have to stick with when I just went mad and started sniffing everything! Around that same time.
Oh good, we’re same time twins! From the earlier days, the perfumes were what others thought my older sister and I would like (Tatiana, Alfred Sung, Liz Claiborne).
All great! I went through a stage of collecting all the Liz Claibornes when they would come out. I think my favorite was Vivid.
Yeah, I kind of had a two-step bounce down into the rabbit hole. Part one was circa 2004, when I started buying and wearing multiple perfumes that I liked. Part two was 2009, where I dove deep and found perfume blogs, which led to all sorts of mischief and fun…
Can’t wait to see what you pick!
I’m wearing SL Ambre Sultan. In my early perfume days I ordered several big sample sets by notes from The Perfumed Court. The first was fig, and the second was amber. I still love fig but have kind of gone off amber. This amber was the one I liked least. But for some reason I bought a bottle of it at Neiman’s, I suppose because it was so well thought of. I bet it could be 15 years old. I’m still struggling to like it, but it has grown on me some.
If anyone needs some more up-to-date eye candy, click here! It’s for a good cause, too!
https://tomandlorenzo.com/2020/10/2021-australian-firefighters-calendars/#.X4jHGS9Omf0
I just love firefighters! I’m so thankful for them.
Oh. My!
Feeling a bit under the weather today… a bit of digestive upset. I guess something I ate yesterday is disagreeing with me. Bleah.
SOTD = Fat Electrician, from the sample stash.
I hope you’re feeling better!
Thank you sistine! Little by little things have improved. I would prefer a speedier resolution but I guess that’s not happening.
Sorry about the upset, Jalepeno. Hopefully Fat Electrician helps. I think of it as the Vetiver that got away as it’s now hard to find in my area.
Thanks Merlin! That’s a shame about Fat Electrician for you. Are all the ELdO’s hard to find, or just that one?
The range here is quite limited and what is sold is sold online and the relevant shops do not carry testers. I suspect I never bought it because it did not quite cross over into love so I’m not very sorry really. I love the idea of a warm ambered vetiver but have not found one that quite works for me. Aside from that I really do have enough vetiver now
Oh no! Feel better soon!
Thank you hajusuuri! I wish I knew what got everything all bothered, b/c I sure wouldn’t do that again!
Hope it’s gone soon and you are feeling better!
Thanks lillyjo! It’s been slow going…
Today I wore Like This, which was absolutely perfect for a beautiful fall day. I also had a calm, centered day free from anxiety and stress, so I would like to express my profound gratitude to the universe for that great gift. I’m really looking forward to reading the CP choices tomorrow!!
That is so awesome you had a great day! ?
I think for tomorrow’s CP I will have to wear Un Jardin Sur Le Nil, because it was Chandler Burr’s book about it, The Perfect Scent, that “scent” me down the rabbit-hole.
My sneakers frankly make my feet stinky. So I washed them with soap and rubbed on 4711. If only that scent could last. It’s so good.
Now that’s a novel (and pragmatic) use for some perfume!
So, so late today! But I just had to say you smell wonderful, Robin. Black Cashmere was such a beauty – wish I had kept that one.
Today was a lovely day, sunny and breezy – went back to 2005 with L’Artisan LE Orange Blossom. This was such a splurge, but I never regretted it. It still smells great, and it’s still my HG ob.
And that Jeremy Irons! He’s too sexy for that shirt. (Did it just get warmer in here?)
Late to the party today – SOTD was Dior Homme, an early favorite that now I’m not so fond of anymore. Why does that happen??
