Happy Beatlemania Friday / John Lennon's birthday! Our community project for today: name your favorite Beatles or John Lennon song, and wear the perfume to match.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
It's not really my favorite Beatles song, but I'm Only Sleeping is the perfect pandemic song, and I'm pairing it with Aftelier Ancient Resins.
Reminder: on 10/16 we're going back to the beginning...revisit a fragrance you tried in your early days as a perfumista. Suggested by springpansy.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try (but frequently fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
An acoustic rehearsal version of I'm Only Sleeping.
Robin, I almost chose I’m only sleeping today! Almost twins! I love this song too. 🙂
Anyway, my pick is Woman by John Lennon. I considered wearing OJ Woman, but eventually decided that something softer and dreamier is called for. So I am wearing SL Clair de Musc.

Bonus track: Silly Love Songs by Paul McCartney & Wings
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wh15LOppcWQ
Reportedly ““Silly Love Songs” was written as a rebuttal to music critics, as well as former Beatle and friend, John Lennon, accusing Paul McCartney of writing lightweight love songs.” (from the-paulmccartney-project.com)
Come on, John, you wrote Love, you could write sentimental love stuff too!
*”you wrote Love”- I meant “you wrote Woman” (although I think Real Love qualifies too).
Clair de Musc is a wonderful pick for JL songs:)
Thanks. I think it fits the mood of the song nicely.
It was a great rebuttal!
Oh yes!
Oh that’s funny!
😀
Hello all!
I’m a bit literal today for the poll, but I chose Mojito Chypre for Strawberry Fields Forever. Zingy strawberry and mint over a slightly woody base. Great fun!
Stay safe everyone.
Brilliant!
?
Nice!
Thank you!
???!
fantastic song choice ?
It’s a wild ride!!
Full points to you
Haha, thanks!
Nice!
Thank you!
You earned an enabler pin for 1000 by Jean Patou!
Hey Jalapeno! How funny, I’m sure you remember better than me but I’ve never even sampled 1000. Please feel free to correct me if I’m losing my mind.
Oh, I think you are probably right. But I seem to recall that you had mentioned wearing a different perfume from Patou recently, and that was a push for me to get 1000 before it disappeared. So maybe an indirect nudge?
Oh, yes, Colony! Great stuff. I should try 1000 as well. Kerleo knew his stuff. ?
SOTD = Amber Oud by Killian, a lovely simple amber and vanilla fragrance, once of the first scents I encountered after I fell down the rabbit hole of fragrance. If I really truly had to have only one perfume, if I really get down to it, all I would need is this perfume. So, in my head, the Beatles song that goes with this scent is All You Need Is Love….
Following along with the aftermath of the arrest of the domestic terrorists near my house, we all need to put more love into the world, we need to think love, feel love, breathe love, to counteract the hate that seems to seep into everything when no one is watching. What a world we live in now…
Nice pairing, and yes! to more L❤️VE
That is a beautiful scent, I agree. I second your comments on the arrest of people up to no good.
I’m in Dune, because it’s going to be sunny and may get all the way to 80 today!? I’m going with In My Life, because I woke up with it in my head and despite the sun we’ve had all week, the shorter days and turning leaves having me feeling quite melancholy as the fall days always do. Dune makes me feel melancholy sometimes too because it takes me back to the early ‘90’s and my college town that I loved so.?
song twins! ???
Yay!??
Perfect match!
Hi all, my SOTD is Straight to Heaven by Killian. Choosing a favorite Beatles song was tough, but Julia would have to be my #1, with Black Bird a close runner up. 🙂
Headed out for my walk, have a great day all!
Blackbird is such a great song. Enjoy your walk!
?◼️?️
love blackbird
☺️☺️☺️
You smell lovely!
I wanted Straight to Heaven for years. I still like it, but don’t love it as I used to years ago.
I chose Mitsouko edt today, because it’s been mentioned recently, and I haven’t worn it in months.
great choice!
Hello:)
I went with a house match, Bond No. 9 Chinatown to go with my fave JL song, No. 9 Dream:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7zZsKOvXiFo
Perfect! ??
So perfect I put some on too!
Going with Here Comes the Sun and Odalisque from Nicolaï.
Here comes the sun always puts me in a slightly better mood and that’s reason enough for me ?
I sometimes listen to Here Comes the Sun on repeat for however long I need it. ????
Odalisque also puts me in a better mood! You smell great!
Good choice!!
Diptyque Eau Capitale today. Because I finally wanted to use the travel spray I got in NST swapmeet.
Hey everyone who doesn’t want to shell out for the Harrods or Diptyque advent calendars, here’s a more reasonable alternative~
https://www.surlatable.com/charbonnel-et-walker-chocolate-truffles-advent-calendar/PRO-6572069.html
In DSH’s Le Smoking, paired with Cold Turkey from the Plastic Ono Band album.
Ohh… those chocolates!
Yum!
No Beatles song came to mind when I chose Tom Ford White Suede this morning.
Got a spray of Bitter Peach at the store (second time I tried it) and I really love it. Wonderful how tastes differ…. I smell a lovely boozy peach with spices and a bitter pit. I wouldn’t mind if Tom sent a bottle to me for an early Christmas gift ?
I am looking forward the smelling that one. But the cost is coconuts!
I’m *sure* you are on his ? list
I liked it…since I like peach notes. I should sniff again to see if I get boozy. But… I wouldn’t pay the $$$ for it, so I’m probably temperamentally inclined to discount it. ?
I stopped into Ulta yesterday for mascara, but there was a lonely single bottle of Organza Indecence on the shelf, so I thought it best that I adopt it. I smell snuggly and spicy.
the bottle *was* all alone, can’t have that!
Sometimes you really need to take care of the lonely perfume.
Makes perfect sense!
It adopted you lol
Nice perfume find!
Strawberry Fields Forever got paired with Cartier’s L’Heure Convoitee since it has a nice strawberry note
SotD = Apres L’ondee
?? = In My Life
the mood = pensive and wistful
There are places I’ll remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone, and some remain
All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends, I still can recall
Some are dead, and some are living
In my life, I’ve loved them all
When the Beatles CP was first mentioned, this is the pairing that immediately came to my mind.
I love the scent and the song, and can enjoy them both over and over again in a single day without getting worn out by them.
Music and perfume, both are balm for the head and heart. ???
Nice!
thank u, OF!
???
???
Such a great song.
It grabs me
by the heart ❤️
and makes me feel
all the feels ?
but I love it even so ?
Melancholy lyrics for sure. Especially now.
agree ?
sometimes that’s
the best thing
about music ?
Wonderful song, wonderful scent. I was wearing it several days ago for the first time in a while, so beautiful.
CDG Garage for Drive My Car. I really wanted to do my favorite Wings track, Let Me Roll It, and PG Cozé, but Zoom meetings do not wait for rustling through one’s scent collection.
Well, they DO have a coffee cup icon, so obviously they also need a perfume bottle icon, for “I forgot my perfume – brb!”
I always forget about that song. Great choice.
Excellent!
I never smelled this, but it sounds interesting
Well, I like the choice you made! Fun!
Clever! ?
beep beep n beep beep yeah!
??
Brilliant! I love that song! It’s so funny. You could also have matched it with Tauer’s Hyacinth and a Mechanic, lol!
Posting and running. I’m wearing Coco today and matching it to ?When I’m 64?
God willing I make it to 64, I will still love and will be wearing Coco! ?
https://youtu.be/HCTunqv1Xt4
I hope you make it to 64, too! And then some!
excellent! ☺️
Myrrhiad (cool, sweet, contemplative myrrh) by Pierre Guillaume for Let It Be. I’ve always thought it was a beautiful song, but really loved it after watching the movie Yesterday (highly recommended, BTW, for a fun watch with some great music). I first thought it was a John Lennon song, but of course it’s not (duh, religious references). In fact he hated it! Happy Friday, all!
I love Myrrhiad. You smell fantastic.
Yesterday is so beautiful. ?
I used to play it endlessly on the piano. ?? I don’t know how my mother could stand it. ?
Deciding on a favorite Beatles song is impossible. I am not a HUGE fan, but they are part of the sound track of my youngest years. Their songs are in the warp and weft of my earliest memories, like bannisters and door knobs at head height.
For today:
And anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude, refrain
Don’t carry the world upon your shoulders
For well you know that it’s a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder.
Trying to warm up the world in Laudano Nero!
Same here Oakland Fresca, and that song still feels like comfort every time I hear it.
Great lyrics, and yes, I find them comforting, too.
??? Marvelous! Hey, Jude was one I thought of for today, too.
When I taught music to 5th and 6th graders I had so much fun watching them fall in love with singing all those na na na na’s.
Perfect! A few of us 50 somethings love singing them too!
I got nothin on the song, but I’m wearing Ambre Precieux today. Sadly I think my decant isn’t aging well. But inspired by Woman, I’ll be wearing OJ Woman later today.
Well, I said I was going to wear Laudano Nero, but it seems I finished off my decant and forgot. ? So we are twins as my decant of Ambre Precieux delivered. Also under consideration was Ambra Aura… maybe later. Definitely a day for cozy ambers. ???
https://youtu.be/CrTMc2i6Lzc
From a tribute concert for George, I like this version with Eric Clapton the guitar magician.
I pair it with YSL Cinema because G H was also a producer.
My fave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWc4wMyL1oI !
Ah yes, it’s a good one too, with another guitar magician?
That guitar solo always fills me with a sense of wonder at what it is to be musical….which I’m not.
Same here. They are so talented.
I find that one so sad now.
Sorry it makes you sad, it is quite melancholy for sure.
I find the version with Tom Petty and Prince especially poignant now since they’re both gone, too. Watching it is eerie…
I can see that. . . but then again I loved showing my son a life-sized recording of that set at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame–and seeing him walk away slack-mouthed. Its like a painting by a great master, preserved for everyone on Youtube. And we knew them when. . .
? that is perfect ?
As a French horn player, I’m going to have to go with For No One for one of my favorite instances of horn in popular music. I don’t think my small collection contains anything sad enough to match the song, but I’m in Bottega Veneta because it’s one of my favorites and I find it cozy for overcast days like today.
My father played his LP of Revolver over and over again when I was a child. For No One gives me chills. Thank you for the memory. ?
Never was a big fan of the Beatles. There, I said it. I am currently filling up my Amazon cart for a Prime Pantry order and will be giving Prime Day a pass this year. With the dog going to the vet soon and filling his meds, groceries have to take precedence. Wearing the current Miss Dior original edt.
Otto Mi Gato has an appointment for dental surgery later this month, so I feel ya.
That’s a fine choice, and I never liked the Beatles much either. ?
Three hefty sprays of Absolute Aphrodisiac, and I’m pairing it with Something, because I am smelling mysteriously attractive.
Happy Friday, everybody!
Ah, good one!
I was never much into John Lennon’s music and have only an AM radio familiarity with the Beatles generally (I know, I know …). I’m in Italian Leather today because I wanted to be, and have now decided it’s that rare thing, a leather fragrance that’s really more suited to spring than fall. And cannot think of one single Beatles/Lennon song to pair with it, so I’ve utterly failed the CP today, I’m afraid.
I fail them myself sometimes!
Diptyque Tempo today. I think I like this one so much that it goes to the top of the list for next perfume buy (who know when that would be). I used to not like patchouli, but lately I have come around to it and Tempo is one I enjoy immensely.
I love Tempo! Is your decant now bright green? Have you ever tried Solstice Scents? Estate Vetiver should be renamed Estate Patchouli.
I have an official sample. Not bright green, I’d say more of a brownish green.
Haven’t tired Solstice Scents, it it comparable with Tempo?
I would say it is more to stoke your patchouli exploration
Sounds good, thanks!
Another Tempo fan here. Be sure to read NST’s own Kevin’s review. I will have to dig out my sample. I have not found my ultimate patchouli yet but am happy to find it in so many different scents!
I’ve just read Kevin’s review. I own Coromandel (don”t think about it as a patchouli focused perfume, very well blended that is not a soliflore) but never thought of it while I was wearing Tempo. Now I can kind of see a small relation, but Tempo is more patchouli driven and I love the mate tea addition. I kind of think of Zegna’s Javanese Patchouli, I’ll have to dig up my sample to see if they’re alike. I think Zegna is the first patchouli focused perfume that I really liked. It took me years to come around to patchouli.
I have a soft spot for Here Comes the Sun. However, I would have to pair it with Dzintars Leila, which I wore at that time and which is sadly my only early perfume love that I have been unable to snag on ebay.
Dzintars is a Latvian company; at the time, I only knew the fragrance was from the USSR. An eclectic gift shop near my college campus that sold it.
could you get it in Latvia or from Latvia?
I’ve been watching ebay for it. There seem to always be a lot of other vintage Dzintars perfumes on auction but I’ve only seen this one once — and that was a completed auction two weeks after it sold!
Although that was frustrating, I was at least able to confirm the name and learn the brand by seeing the bottle. I was beginning to doubt my memory.
It must have been either been very rare, or so loved that those who bought it used every precious drop.
SOTD = Roja Dove Britannia
From a decant. I’m with the CP in a surprisingly reflexive manner: I have more Roja Dove perfumes (decants) as well as more Beatles / John Lennon song loves than I originally thought so I decided to celebrate their British roots. I was originally going to pick Woman as the favorite song and wear a perfume with the word Woman in it but that did not feel right.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CGITmeyBepf/?igshid=8fcvmb67itbh
I will, once again, attempt a closet clean out. I have many suits that I don’t wear anymore and even if I end up having to wear a suit, I would probably shop for a more contemporary style – I haven’t had a need for a more formal office wear that I don’t even know what suit styles are “in”!
I fee like that for most fashion (and I like clothes!). Suddenly, just like that, I’m in middle age and clueless. It’s very handy to have teenagers nearby to tell you what’s what, fashion wise! 🙂
For more casual wear, I go with what’s comfortable and easy to mix and match. I’ve been known to buy many different colors of the exact same shirt ?.
I’m not sure that any one particular suit style is THE current thing. Maybe business wear separates would make more sense? ?
Then I’m covered as I have a good number of blazers and slacks!
You reminded me of the Britannia jeans I used to wear as a young teen. I loved them so much!
Good luck with the closet clean out.
Don’t you have a reward system for how many donation bags you end up with?
Happy Friday. Pacifica Island Vanilla which the lovely Hajusuuri shared w/ me and has become a fast favorite.♥️
? and naughty me, can I tempt you with Pacifica Sugared Amber Dreams? I got a bottle from Marshall’s yesterday so it is still in shopping quarantine.
Tempted me. I will be checking Marshalls this weekend! Lol
TDC De Bachmakov, which whenever I wear, reminds me of “Back in the USSR” where I studied oh so many years ago.
I have a decant of this and I remember it smelling fabulous!
I am wearing Dzing! today, the song to match it is Seargent Peppers Loney Hearts Club for its circus vibe.
We had a nice Pinot gris for dinner, plus a big bowl of chili. Nice start for the weekend
Love it.
Twins! Please send me some Pinto Gris. I’m pretty sure my head can handle that one. 🙂
It was a very good wine from the Nahe region in Germany by Dr. Crusius winery. Can recommend this
Perfect combination!
I grew up with the Beatles and loved them from the very beginning. John and Paul were my equal favorites – John when I was in an introspective, intellectual mood and Paul when I was my usual teenage self loving his cute boyishness.
I have no one favorite song but one that spoke to me as soon as I saw today’s cp, perhaps because of our troubled times and the impact that yoga and meditation has had on keeping me calm these days, is the same as Robin’s choice yesterday. ‘Imagine’ my surprise when late last night I read yesterday’s SOTD post and saw her choice and the interesting commentary and videos that followed. What the lyrics say to me is to put aside, not necessarily negate, our cultural and religious differences and embrace our common humanity that supersedes these differences. I’ve paired it with Pacifica Tibetan Mountain Temple, the scent that says ‘peace’ to me.
Like Robin, I also viewed numerous videos but prefer the purist approach to this song – I just want John. https://youtu.be/YkgkThdzX-8
This week’s words of wisdom from my yoga teacher: Let this be the day you find the peace in letting go and the power in holding on. Just . . . Imagine. ?
That is what the lyrics say to me too, in fact I think of that as the John Lennon message to the world in general, whether or not it is really what he meant to say. He has been adopted by the world as a message of peace.
Had a desire to wear cozy today to sprayed on Philosophy Fresh Cream Soft Suede.
Now that it’s faded, I’ll add in Jour Ensolleille for Good Day, Sunshine.
As others have noted, the new Cormoran Strike book has many scent references. I chuckled at the bit about Frederic Malle. But, I really laughed at the comment on Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche. “The only message it conveyed to bystanders was ‘I have washed.’” I have no idea if that is an accurate review.
Oh how funny!
SOTD: Amber Oud
Friday — yes! Looking forward to some rest and more rest.
Then I hope you get it!
Favourite Beatle song is Across the Universe. Calling all Angels would fit but I am wearing Arbole Arbole and its beautiful patchouli hums along Jai Guru Deva.
The Beatles were the soundtrack of my youth, I think I cried when they broke up.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cK5G8fPmWeA
Morning! I have selected a B-Side JOhn Lennon tune from 1966 called Rain. I like the weird trippy drums more than the lyrics or tune. Rain or shine, it’s all the same…pairing it with La Pluie. I am a bit sad about missing the book post last weekend as I have read a ton …well not quite a ton…of great books recently. The first godwits have just arrived after their 11000km nonstop flight from Alaska. I think they shoukd be my spirit animal: Just keep flapping!! ( and you’ll make it).
https://www.miranda-shorebird.org.nz/archives/6621
For any birdwatchers. Information from tracking the godwits’ migration
Do give us some tips Kanuka? Admittedly I don’t have that much time to read at the moment but I can always keep them for later.
Well, since you asked….ha ha
FICTION
Laura Beatty, Lost Property – an English writer takes a year off to travel Europe by camper van. As she passes through varius towns on her way to Greece she stops at historical sites etc. and often meets the historical figures from those places (as living people). Some of these historic figures travel with her for a while , e.g. Joan of Arc. So the whole book is a kind of travel, time travel , historical, cultural , social comment but lively and imaginative (and an easy read).
2. Tara June Winch, The Yield
This is great. The author is an indigenous Australian and on the surface it is about a woman returning to Australia following the death of a relative. But really it is about language, specifically the language of the Wiradjuri people, and colonisation. Wonderful writing. I think it won the Australian fiction prize etc.
NON FICTION
My recent discovery is Vivian Gornick, who is well-known to USA readers (New Yorker) etc. Two books
1. Unfinished Business – about the joy of re-reading linked in with episodes from her life
2. Approaching Eye Level – essays.
Quite feisty . I love that she talks to strangers – because I always talk to strangers.
POETRY
Claudia Rankine, Just Us…from her trilogy ‘American Lyric’ This is a kind of twin text: poetry and then background notes/ sources/ commentary. Contemporary. She taught a ‘Construction of Whiteness’ class at Yale. I expect she is well-known in USA but not to me.
That will do. Maybe nonfiction and NZ tomorrow
I met Vivian Gornick when she was a visiting prof at my university and found her completely irritating. Ugh.
I can well imagine she could be pretty demanding and self absorbed.
Thank you! No need ever for anybody to wait for a reading poll, we’re all always looking for more to read.
Thanks a lot, Kanuka!
My favorite comment below the video: “My neighbours called the police because I playing this so loud. The police arrested my neighbours.”
Please share any book recs!
Never heard of Godwits– and what a wonderful name! Was looking it up its origins and learned (from wikipedia) that “Godwits were once a popular British dish. Sir Thomas Browne writing in about 1682 noted that godwits “were accounted the daintiest dish in England.””
They are beautiful waders, and I would have thought a bit too small and thin for eating (but I guess people eat quail and all sorts of small passerines). It is amazing that they fly around 250 hours non-stop…kind of puts the journey from here to Europe in an aeroplane (25 hours) into perspective
Well I think anyone who is after a “dainty” meal (!!??) gets what he deserves. Oy. Plus, eating something called Godwit? Name for your next novel?
Another Beatles gem I forgot about. I actually found myself tapping to the beat while listening. 🙂
I love this song, and it’s been too long since I’ve listened to it. Thanks!
Not a Beatles fan.
But listened to this Billy Joel song today and realised what an amazing range he had.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJWM5FmZyqU
Also, in honor of Van Halen, this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2vuQKwlgLs
Must be my age, but as all the great musicians of our time are passing away, I realize more and more: They just don’t make them like that any more.
In the same way, I’m wearing Paco Rabanne La Nuit. Old school.
vein, not way
They really don’t make em like they used to.
Not a great Beatles fan, for some reason.
I’ve just finished my first week in my new job and it was actually rather pleasant. I haven’t felt so inspired at work in a looooooong time.
The amount of things I will have to learn is huge and I have a lot of new skills to acquire but it al seems more of a challenge than a burden. I do have moments of doubt of course, but on the whole I feel a whole lot better than I expected. All of this might change but for now I’m thankful for the moment.
SOTD is Bois de Paradis, for no other reason than that I felt like it. It is truly wonderful.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMltoD1jCGI
My song of the day. I haven’t heard much of him, but I’m enjoying this!
Great news about your job! And you smell wonderful. I love Bois de Paradis and I’m sad that I never acquired a bottle.
Hooray for feeling good at work!
That is good news about your new job. An inspiring job is hard to beat
Great news on good vibes from the job! I feel like that about my studies – like they are a great fit. Like you, I’m aware this can change!
I’m pleased to hear that the first week at your new job was a good one!
Are you remote or in office? Glad week 1 went well!
In office but will eventually be doing a mix.
Woo hoo for the pleasant work week!
Congrats on enjoying the new job! We spend so much of our time doing our jobs that it’s really important to enjoy most of the job, most of the time.
I’m more of an early Beatles fan, and I really wanted to wear Vol de Nuit today, so my pick is “Love Me Do.”
Wait, did they write this? ?
You could also pair VdN with Blackbird. If only I’d thought of this earlier … 🙂
Yes! ?
Ooh, great pairing, VdN with “Blackbird!” I was able to go to Paul McCartney’s live concert several years ago and he told the story of how they wrote “Blackbird”, inspired by the civil rights movement.
I’m going to say they did write it, and then look it up to see if I’m right.
Brb, lol
Yep they did!?
I’m in the clear, then. ?
Lazy Saturday morning, wearing my scruffy old home clothes, which are considerably elevated by last night’s Amouage Memoir. I was going to say “traces” of last night’s Memoir, but it lasts so long on clothes that it would be days before the scent was reduced to mere traces 🙂
Post-shower, I’ll go for a walk around town and see what I can find to try.
I love Memoir, great scent
I am planning a mooch around town, too.Another blustery day!!
Memoir makes everything fancier!
Oh wow – I just noticed we’re doing my poll next week! Yay, thanks. But what to wear? So many options. ;D
🙂
Neither my favorite song nor the perfume I’m wearing today, but if my brain had been less fuzzy this morning I’ve had gone with Instant Karma (song) and Breath of God.
I am in fact wearing Tiempe Passate and may finish my travel spray by year’s end. I guess the logical song choice for this one would be In My Life, BUT I will go instead with Norwegian Wood, which I think better fits the character of this fragrance. (And my all-time fave Beatles song is Something. Team George.)
Ah, that’s a special fragrance. Reminds me of my first days of perfumistahood.
I was going to wear Lush Karma but changed my mind!
Late to the party! Very busy day. I was commando the whole day. Just now sprayed on one arm Zoologist Camel and on the other arm Rhinoceros. Rhinoceros is a NO-NO! Camel is ok. Both samples go the good- bye pile. I will spray on some Saffran Troublant for comfort later.
Happy Friday! ?
I don’t care for Rhinoceros either but am curious why you decided to pass on Camel–anything in particular?
Nothing in particular. It is nice, but just did not move my heart enough to keep it.
Hope everything’s ok!
Doggie very sick again. Taking him to the emergency room tomorrow.
I’ve noticed that the Zoologist samples I have tried start off as loud scents but drop off quickly to skin scents. Does that happen with you too?
Yes, they start pretty loud and do not last on my skin much. After 2 hours they are gone.
I don’t have a single favorite Beatles song. There are several that I consider my favorites, though, and this is part of that group:
https://youtu.be/pHNbHn3i9S4
And here is my favorite John Lennon song, although this is a cover:
https://youtu.be/awOcbVoS4yE
SOTD = Reminiscence Patchouli, to go with the Beatles song. ✌
It has been a long time since I listened to Tomorrow Never Knows. So psychedelic, and the drums are excellent.
I definitely like the trippy stuff! And I am amazed at how contemporary “Tomorrow Never Knows” sounds.
Wow! Very touching. He was all over midtown NYC!
I got goosebumps all over my body the first time I saw that video.
I just love Ozzy?
That video shows Ozzy has some serious talent. Kind of easy to forget that when he was screaming for Sharon on “The Osbournes”…
Exactly! I hated that show , it made me upset for Ozzy.
Realizing of course that he probably didn’t care and made a ton of money.
Baking Bread,
must go back and read comments in-between loaves.
I will copy Robin – today is a tough day and I need all that magic that Mandy conjures.
Favorite Beatles song is too difficult. Probably 2 from each year would work – but I don’t often listen to them oddly. Maybe I don’t want to feel old?
Happy ‘Lucy in the Sky’ to all of you. KooKookachew.
I hope the evening got better!
I hope it’s a better day for you tomorrow!
Hope Mandy did her magic for you!
Used to listen to Beatles all the time in my teens, but today I’m too lazy to dig deep – Dzing!, as someone suggested that yesterday.
Here is a video of the choir version of “here comes the sun” by the master version of the choir I’m in (I’ve only recorded silly beer choir songs so far, we have to wait for the right CP for that 🙂
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2qtlfOYvcY&ab_channel=StocktonChorale
Happy Friday!
You guys are great and great together. Seeing happy people singing happy songs is a very good use of time, so thank you for posting!
Thank you! 🙂
Wow! Thanks for sharing. Makes me wonder what place a conductor has in the time of Covid ?
You nailed it – our conductor has asked himself that same question. Well, there are conducting tracks for larger choirs – so when I record, I actually watch a video of my conductor that plays in time with the audio track that I hear.
Oh how awesome, sounds great!
Superlate to the 2020 NST Beatlemania party…
SOTD!Jean Patou Sira des Indes…
Song,uhmmm….Yellow Submarine?
Sira des Indes was on my Sale list a couple of years back, and she came home with me,unloved by others as well.
SO HAPPY ABOUT THAT!!We found each other today!
Ten hours in I am still on a yellow submarine, having a Spring party under the sea.
Notes listed include Banana and Champaca flower,I get an ylang-ylang vibe, which is not listed. The far drydown that I am currently smelling is worth the wait,I get flashbacks from Malle’s Iris Poudre’s drydown.Definitely not identical, more shared DNA.
LOVE.
Happy Weekend!
What.a.week!!!
XO
I’m going to get out my bottle of SdI this weekend! Great pairing! Glad the Blue Meanies did not take it away 🙂

I cannot pick a favourite of either the Beatles or Lennon so I chose “Whatever gets you through the night” because it’s just so much fun! That SNL-esque sax intro, Elton John singing backup vocals and playing piano, this song was inspired by “Rock your baby” by George McCrae. I’m wearing Ginger Picante because it’s been getting me through just about everything lately, both days and nights!
I’m sure most of us know the version that was released but have a listen to this and you will hear the influence of the song that inspired it!

I had never heard that, thanks!
I really like whatever gets you through the night and forgot all about that one, thanks!
Was not a Beatles fan and in particular disliked John for his intellectual pretentiousness. What did I know? I was much more into Motown, Marvin Gaye in particular. Growing up within radio range of the Detroit station CKLW that was our daily fare. I do appreciate the sad beauty of “Eleanor Rigby” but am feeling blue enough on this gray gloomy (hurricane adjacent) day that I did not want to put on a perfume to coordinate. Take care everyone! I’m wearing heavy sprays of my very heavy French perfume Les Ecuadors Patchouli.
Sorry you are feeling blue Calypso!
Too many favorite Lennon songs to pick just one! The first song I ever sang as a toddler was “She Loves You”. But yesterday I wore Penhaligon’s Blasted Bloom, so I’ll go with “A Day In The Life”, which ends with a blast of a piano chord.
