Hump Day + Steak Au Poivre Day + Leo Tolstoy’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking community project points in Arielle Shoshana Sunday.
Reminder: on 9/11, wear a perfume with cardamom, if you have one. (You can find several lists of fragrances with cardamom in the comments to the weekend poll.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’ve been waking up too early, for a few months now. Pandemic? Still reeling from Daylight Saving Time? World on Fire? Dunno.
It’s finally a cool morning, and the smoke that has lain (laid? been laying? I never know) over town like a blanket for weeks seems to have cleared a little this morning. Hallelujah.
I’m working the CP in Jacomo Art Collection No. 08!
Excellent choice! You smell delicious!
I can list all the things I worry about when I wake up way early, so you can have more if you want.
I think it is “the smoke that has lain (or been lying”).
You smell great!
I wake up too early every morning as well, awash in worry. Somehow I need to get a grip.
Me, too. It’s especially hard when I can’t go for my long fast walks during the day. Those help. But with the smoky air, they are discouraging that kind of exercise.
Used to teach grammar, easy way to remember–people lie, objects get laid!! The college kids always got it right!!
? about what happens to college students ?
And sometimes people lie to get laid 😉
Too funny!
Exactly!
I have been waking up too early since early spring. Not worried or anxious at that hour, just awake. It’s quite annoying.
Eau Duelle. Even though I am not getting cardamom from it, it is a lovely perfume.
I went for Eau Duelle yesterday, also failed to identify the cardamom…
Yes, I feel we have been tricked… ?
Well – it smells good ? So at least there’s that.
It is lovely! I forgot it had cardamom.
Can you actually smell cardamom in it, madtowngirl?
Cardamom credits galore in
Jungle L’Elephant
???
I love this scent. And it continues to grow on me every time I wear it.
Excellent choice. Jungle is a classic.
It is so good. A sillage and longevity monstah, to boot.
Fantastic longevity for sure!
You smell amazing! And it is sillage monster.
*a sillage
I find the Elephant confident and present, but not trying to hard. It remains interesting all the way through the dry down.
You smell wonderful!
You smell great. Perhaps I’ll wear that one tomorrow!
Definitely a possible pick for Friday!
Good morning all!
I’m in Le Lion (6 or so sprays) and gently wafting soft leathery vanilla.
When is this supposed to be available in the US? I’m going to need a whole bottle.
Twins!?
I suspect we will have lots of siblings today (up to 25, if I remember Hajusuuri’s count correctly) ?
It’s really perfect for fall.
Triplets!
January 2021 according to Fragrantica. I was thinking I might have my Christmas present figured out, but now it looks like a birthday delivery. I can wait until March. I think.
Thank you Nancy. It’s beautiful, isn’t it?
It’s gorgeous. Do you think it falls under the wood pudding category? I’m not sure.
I am not sure either. Slightly sweet, resinous, warm and cozy is what I get.
Well, that’s Christmas sorted out!
You smell great!
Thank you Undina! I hope you get to try it as well.
I did! That’s why I commented 🙂
Glad you like it!
Hi all!
Wearing the newish Rōzu from Aesop. My friend who works for Aesop received a full bottle but decided she doesn’t like it. This she passed out onto me!
It’s an interesting perfume, green with a rose so big you almost miss it. The heart is really strange and almost smells like fried whole peanuts, which I find thrilling. The base has a tiny bit of funk too, a welcome surprise. The price they’re asking for it is huge to me but I will easily use this bottle!
Stay safe.
That sounds fantastic! Fried peanuts in perfume is a new note for me. I always like Aesop scents (Hwyl was a great one!), but never quite pull the trigger on any of them.
I’m afraid that description makes me want to run far far away from it!
Oh, fried peanuts sound great, I like nutty notes in perfume.
Aha, now I want to smell it. They do interesting things over at Aesop.
Hermes Apres la Mousson. Which gives me cp points, but I can never quite decide what I think about it. What I do think is that I need to practice some yoga. I feel grumpy and the smoky air is getting to me.
My favorite Jardin! You smell great.
Grumpy twins, springpansy. Hope your smoke clears soon!
Grumpy triplets…!
Count me in as the fourth!
We could start a game of cards now. Lol.
You smell great!
You smell wonderful, I adore this Hermes, it’s so refreshing.
I woke up grumpy, and also disoriented – the skies over SF are very surreal….
Happy hump day! It’s the road downwards towards the weekend now.
My cardamom #3 is Fugit Amor from Jul et Mad. It’s mostly ginger & carnation but cardamom is a supporting note in it.
Carnation is probably the strongest note, but I get more cardamom than ginger from it. Anyway you smell so good!
Just blasted myself w/ Le Lion compliments of Hajusuuri’s split. 🙂
So far this is like amped up Shalimar on me….will report back more later.
I’m wearing it, too! Beautiful!
There’s something both airier but chewier than Shalimar on me, but that seems paradoxical. I agree that they’re similar. It will be fun to see all the splitters’ impressions.
Yes, this is strong on me…kind of beast mode I daresay. 😉 I am getting strong, smoky leather now.
It really had too much leather for my taste, though I liked it in the later stages when I got a lovely vanilla incense from it.
Completely agree. The opening of smoky leather is too much for me but the drydown is nice. It’s about 80% nuclear Shalimar trailed by 20% of Coromandel lite. I’d rather just wear Coromandel but for fans of Shalimar I’d call it a must try.
And I did not get much leather overall!
A lot like Shalimar for me too, with a dose of Galop thrown in. Report back on how you like it through the day!
Oh no! I dislike both of those. I’m hoping for more of a Coromandel smell.
Ha! I actually don’t like either of those either, but somehow Le Lion works. Must be the Chanel base, many Guerlains don’t work for me. Today I’m getting a bit of the Coromandel smell and it’s a bit smokey. So, worth a try even if you’re not a Shalimar fan.?
To me it’s about 80% nuclear Shalimar trailed by 20% Coromandel lite in the drydown. 😉 Too much leather for me but YMMV.
OMG :-0. Will be interesting to smell.
On me, it is more Coromandel and Mitzah. Don’t “look for” Shalimar but I suppose your nose will do it for you.
Ugh, the more people I see wearing le Lion, the sadder I am about having missed out on the split. It sounds lovely!
I thought I read that she had more? But maybe not.
Oh really? I will poke her about it then!
Le Lion for me too! I am loving it!
Another gray and drizzly November morning. Oh, that’s right, it’s only September. Apparently Mother Nature didn’t get the memo.?? I’m freezing but I refuse to turn my furnace on this early in the season, it’s not even the middle of September! Ridiculous.
Okay, weather rant over. Guess I’ll make the most of it by pulling out one of my cashmere sweaters and joining some others in Le Lion. Perfect for fall.
Weather twins! I’m also refusing to turn on the heat, but I fear it will get turned on while I’m at work tonight.
Suppose to to crack seventy by Friday. Fingers crossed!
Woke up to 5 inches of snow and a rather chilly 25 degrees. You betcha I have the heat on, but they are saying 80’s for the weekend. Jealous of all the Le Lion wearers, but decided today was just made for Mitzah 😉
To me, Le Lion smells like Coromandel, Mitzah and Shalimar.
Ugh to the snow!
Le Lion is so perfect for fall. I can’t wait to wear it more. I wore it to bed last night and again this AM.
Ha! You are smitten!
Just emailed STC. My last order, I ordered a carded sample of Clair de Musc and when I opened the Itty bitty box, the sample was Ambre Sultan instead. I tested out Ambre Sultan last night and I think it’s in a way horrible. Switched over to no 5 edt to clean my palate.
I bet the gang at STC will make things right. I have always had really good interactions with them! Let us know 🙂
I’ve never enjoyed Ambre Sultan although many say it’s their favorite amber.
Will be spending my birthday wandering in and out of art galleries in P-town with a waterfront lunch. Wearing Scent Trunk April 2020 for the project
Oooh, jealous! It’s been years since I’ve been to Provincetown; we used to drive down all the time when I lived in Boston. I miss it, especially the art galleries! Also the beaches and the bike rides we used to do. Enjoy — and happy birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday, and enjoy your excursion today! ?
Have a wonderful birthday!
Happy birthday! We were just there Sunday night! I love Ann Packard’s work and her galleries are great, but I can’t afford anything. 🙁 Lots of galleries with large images of small boats floating on flat seas. More than half the stores were closed and visitors were way down. We were actually able to drive down Commercial Street, which I haven’t dared to try in more than 20 years.
Have fun!
Sounds like the perfect birthday to me–hope you enjoy it too!! Check out the art work of Johniene Papandreas (large scale/faces).
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your day.
Happy Birthday! ?
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Hope it is a wonderful birthday thegoddessrena!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Scented Birthday! ????✨
Yes! Wandered in and out of stores and galleries and in just about the last place I visited I found some perfume in the back corner so I spritzed one hand with Indian Study and one with Study #17 both from Miller and Barteaux. I kind of like them but my husband wasn’t impressed. I certainly have the ability to find perfume though
???
Happy birthday! Hope you had a wonderful day ??
Robin, you smell wonderful!
I don’t have tons of cardamom perfumes, so I’ve been saving Sunday for Friday. (Hmm…that reads a bit funny. 🙂 ) Just looked through some of the lists in the weekend comments, though, and I do have samples of one or two, so something for tomorrow.
Today I’m in MCMC Noble, which is somewhat cardamom-adjacent with some chai tea, I suppose. It may go well with the smoke outside, if it hasn’t blown off yet (north winds from Washington state made it pretty hazy here yesterday).
I have quite a few with cardamom, but now I wish I had tried the Hermes Cardamusc.
I do think most chai has cardamom!
Woke up on Mars. Lurid orange sky. It’s so dark that I’ve got the lights on inside. Even the cat is seems confused. They say the smoke may start to clear tomorrow… hope so.
Haven’t decided on SOTD yet. Today may be a sampling day.
Still trying to sort out a perfume order problem with Saks. I ordered 4 bottles; they cancelled one; and shipped two. So far I can’t get any info about what happened to the fourth bottle… mostly because I can’t get a human on the phone (nothing says “we care about our customers” like a phone menu that prevents customers from getting service!), and they’re not answering email. Joining the grumblers today.
Inorite, what is this sky? So oppressive 🙁 And weirdly the official AQI numbers aren’t that high. I hope our air clears tomorrow, too. (Or later today?)
I saw pictures of San Francisco’s orange sky — I think it was on Twitter this morning. It did look scary. Stay safe, folks!
It does feel weird. My cat is also confused.
A pox on those blasted phone menus!
Wow! I’m beginning to think I ought to try more versions of Shalimar. I do not recall which formulation I used to have (it was a small decant bought about 10 or so years ago from STC) but I know I gave it a few tries over the years to see if I had changed my mind about it and had to scrub it off after a while every time.
I can appreciate the resemblance between the two but I do not find any dark or animalic qualities in Le Lion.
I’m looking forward to more of your impressions down the road ?
This comment was meant for She-ra. Sorry for the confusion…
Well I’ve finally found a fragrance that you don’t like and that I adore. The grande dame Shalimar. I’m actually only familiar with the bottle of extrait I own that I got of eBay 10 years ago.
Filthiest vanilla I know.
Ha! I guess it’s the filthy part that I did not care for (that was definitely why I did not like Bengale Rouge). But I’m not sure. I seem to recall this gasoline smell at some stage in Shalimar’s development that I could not stand.
Shalimar smells like gasoline on me too. I do not get vanilla.
Oh, good to know I’m not crazy to think that ?
I het smoke and darkness, but no gasoline at all
Dark and gloomy here, wearing Olfactive Studios Close Up.
I never thought I’d say this, but I could use a dark and gloomy day! I love the sunshine in California but do miss an occasional dark day.
I don’t mind it (or the rain) either. Variation is nice.
I’m even joining in the CP today, although inadvertently. Wearing Invasion Barbare, which is stunning.
I’m living in a sea of boxes, this transition is really weird. It’s been 10 years since my last move and even though I had not forgotten how unsettling it was, it seems even more surreal than I remember.
Hope you are all as well as may be.
Moving is so tough. Hang in there.
Thanks but I’m doing ok, so far, all things considered.
My sympathies. Our moving date is October 14. I am bracing myself mentally.
My move is next week. It’s all really happening now. Mind you I was hired mid April and will start working for my new employer from the first of October.
I hope it all goes well for you!
Glad you will have some time to get settled before work starts!
Good morning all. Smelling really fine in Fils de Dieu (yes, there’s cardamom) on this Wednesday that feels like Tuesday. We’ve still got an air quality alert here and the high today is 86 with a high tomorrow of 90, so I’ll probably have to skip my after work walks both days. Maybe I will walk the stairs in my apartment building instead. We’ve got 6 floors of apartments plus a basement. I have two late in the day meetings, so we’ll see how motivated I am after work.
Reposting from the lazy weekend poll:
SPLIT OFFER for US Only:
I bought a bottle of Serge Lutens Vitriol d’Oeillet off eBay last week after really liking the sample I used up. With tax it was $64.95 for a 50ml bottle, which works out to $1.29/ml. There would also be a shipping charge of $3.50-$4, I estimate. I wouldn’t charge for decant bottle unless you want a “nicer” 5ml decant bottle. I can let you know details on the bottles over email. Oh, and I’ll split up to 30ml. You can email me at gmail using my NST username. Please also post your interest here too. Thanks!
P.S. The bottle hasn’t arrived yet but should any day now. I won’t collect payment until it arrives and I can start decanting. VdO is a really nice warm, spicy floral. I found it really easy to wear, comforting, and it made me sniff my wrist all day.
5ml = $6.45 + $4 shipping (I can run a shipping quote and charge exact shipping so this is an estimate) = $10.45 unless you want an especially nice atomizer
10ml = $12.90 + $4 (I can run a shipping quote and charge exact shipping so this is an estimate) = $16.90
I am always in need of another carnation! Count me in for 5 mls! Nicer bottle sounds nice. 🙂 Emailing you now.
Great! Will email you back later today.
Oh, good reminder that Fils de Dieu has cardamom. Now I am set for Friday…
Me too!
I tend to forget how much I like Fils de Dieu. Every time I wear it, it makes my eyes roll back in my head, I make sounds, and I can’t stop sniffing myself.
Okay you’ve sold me, I need to try it with that kind of recommendation.
“I’ll have what she’s having.” ?
LOL! This is how I felt the first time I smelled L’Artisan Parfumeur Nuit de Tubéreuse.
Ha! That was quite the endorsement, wasn’t it. I will add that while I do think it actually smells amazing, it’s also a nostalgic smell for me. It makes me think of a smell from childhood, though I haven’t figured out what it is yet.
Another great possibility for Friday! Decisions, decisions…
Not participating in the CP until Friday – my collection is cardamom poor, for some reason. I see mention of many things I have not even sampled. I will remedy this the next time I get some samples. SOTD = Mon Precieux Nectar, which to my nose is well blended sweetness with orange blossom and vanilla popping out briefly from time to time. I used to think I wasn’t a fan of sweet perfumes, but I enjoy this very much.
Veering, has anyone smelled Boucheron Vanille de Zanzibar? I keep looking for a perfect vanilla to round out my little rotation, but I don’t have anything that really fits the bill. I want rich vanilla, with a woody rather than musky base, but not incense, since I currently have a surfeit of incense perfumes…..any suggestions gratefully looked into…
You should talk to the vanilla queen, She-ra!
You smell great. I found Vanille Zanzibar a bit dull. Do you like Lutens Un Bois Vanille?
Tested a sample of Vetiver Fatal, but don’t need more. After that I wore lots of Empreinte.
Because I still am home because of my knee, which is luckily much better I had time to cook. The boyfriend was happy, because I made Indian chicken with tamarind and coconut milk, a recipe that I wanted to test for some time. Came out great, and there are leftovers for tomorrow.
Glad you’re on the mend!
That sounds really delicious!
Pleased to hear that your knee is feeling better today!
Very good news that your knee is better today!
Ciao a tutti
Encens Mythique today, I have wanderlust when I wear this..
Where is your wanderlust taking you??✌?
Somewhere in the Middle East…
In my fantasy I am sipping mint tea and eating sweets scented with rose water, preferably on a long lounge with lots of silk pillows.
Want to join me johanob?
I want to join!
My Middle Eastern fantasy was a cafe in Oman where my cruise ship (work) stopped off in Port regularly and all the ship staff knew to flock there for reliable wifi and fresh watermelon juice ? so much less glamorous than yours, but that watermelon juice still haunts me with its perfection!
Joined you in Encens Mythique today, Ltsg . Just thunked the last of my large decant. Bottle-worthy, I think. It does take you places, doesn’t it? 🙂
Yes, today its really helping me escape!
EM is bottle worthy
You smell fabulous. I am joining you now for my SOTE.
For community project points today the original Cartier Declaration! Probably my favorite creation of Jean Claude Ellena. Okay, I like Un Jardin sur la Nil too.
Anything else? ?. I saw a flanker of Cartier Declaration at Matshall’s bit decided not to buy it.
I think all the Cartier Declaration flankers are good. I am not really an Hermès fan……
That one is a cardamom bomb.
It is glorious!
SotD I am taking CP points and possibly creating a lemming for people: Zoologist Deer Musk, coming out this winter.
I was lucky enough to win a Zoologist giveaway last week, and Victor Wong also sent me a sample of his upcoming release.
Impressions: if you’ve ever had a real wintergreen berry that’s spot-on what the opening feels like. Calamus and cardamom together create a mild tingly rush with no sharpness or bitterness. Winter spice but without clove, so it doesn’t come too close to Tiger Balm.
As for the rest of the notes, they’re super well-blended to support the impression of a strong but delicate musk: floral, sweet, medicinal, indolic aspects all feel really well balanced. Very musky, but without heading too barnyard.
Thanks for a great review! The pairing of musk and winter spices means my lemming can snooze on in his cage for now. I would never miss a chance to test any Zoologist, though. I love Civet, and enjoy Hyrax. But Sloth hasn’t clicked with me, and my sample of Elephant is still waiting for a second test. The first musk I really loved was SL Clair de musc, for it pairing of sweet musk and lemon.
Have you tried Squid? It’s polarizing but I quite like it.
Calypso Squid is so gorgeous on other people’s skin!!! The notes on me somehow came out a bit too separated, it felt like 3 very distinct phases instead of a progression. I blame my skin rather than the perfume.
Squid was my second choice, but my fondness for green notes swayed me over to Sloth when I ordered my samples. I will put Squid back on the test list!
Sloth is such a beautiful composition story-wise but chamomile is abhorrent to my nose and even worse on my skin! I promised Victor I would wait it out, the drydown is SO gorgeous, but no way am I ever putting it on again ?
Hyrax and T-Rex I quite like although neither is safe office wear by any means! I also found Panda and Civet gorgeous but neither quite my style.
Omgoodness that sounds really good, thanks for the review! Have you tried Koala? I haven’t gotten it yet, would be interested to know what you think.
I haven’t tried Koala yet! Etiket in my town carries Zoologist so I want to go by at some point and see if I can sample.
Koala is nice, not astringent as I feared.
Thanks for that review. I can’t wait to try it. Lucky you!
This sounds excellent, lucky you getting an advance sniff!
I think Pascal Gaurin is the perfumer for Deer Musk. He also made Scents of Wood #2, my favorite of the 3 pre-launch perfumes I tried.
That’s a new nose crush for me for sure then.
No points for me today–I am in leftover Tauer, from an old beloved bottle of Reverie au Jardin, sadly discontinued and soon to be empty. Trying not to shop, trying to clean out my closet and give everything a chance to excite me again….I know, first world problems…
Time to refocus, send some loving energy to those fighting fires, trying to stay healthy and work or teach kids or care for our sick. I honor you all.
You smell wonderful. Thank you for this lovely post, I needed to read it today.
In April Aromatics Rose L’Orange in honor of our Tatooine skies. I took this photo of the view from my office at 10:15 AM https://www.instagram.com/p/CE7Ibzohosh/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
Amazing – thank you for reporting.
It’s getting completely creepy here. The smoke is now so heavy I can’t see the sun anymore, and the temperature is dropping. Just so strange.
I am so sorry pixel. It sounds truly horrible.
I find it completely creepy as well. It just keeps getting darker–redder–outside. Yet I can hear loads of birds chirping. In the middle of the day our house is totally dark where I have not turned on lights.
My parents are in Millbrae, they called me to tell me about it – very dark & creepy.
It’s so dark and cold here in Sonoma! We’ve got all the lights on and are in wool sweaters, when it was 116 two days ago! Streetlights are on and nocturnal animals are out. It truly feels like the end of the world.
What a description!
That photo is just so unreal…
Eeek, that is dark.
Wow. Just wow.
Very creepy! Those little hairs on the back of my neck raised up seeing that.
Running down the hallway to grab Sunday so that I can copy Robin!
(You smell so dang wonderful Robin. Everybody loves Sunday!)
But earlier my testers arrived from Heeley with Zest de Gingembre (last week’s CP sadly-late) AND MAN IS THIS NICE.
It is a lovely authentic ginger- definitely zesty not sweetened at all and it is now changing a bit into a more soft floral effect but the opening was GRAND. It is nothing at all like Ginger Piccante, it is strongly in the citrus lane AND it’s pretty darn addictive. The opening lasts a good while.
Happy Humpffffff Day.
And I am CP compliant because this pretty baby has Cardamom also. NO wonder I liked it.
Would anyone be interested in a split of this?
I’m definitely interested in knowing the details about 3-5mls, big fan of ginger here.
? thx.
Hmm. Sounds like something I’d like. 🙂 And a few ml sounds like a reasonable amount for my purposes. 🙂
? great.
Oh I just got a sample in the mail. Will be trying asap.
I’d love to hear what you think.
Ah, interesting…I have not 100% loved a Heeley yet other than Cardinal, but that sounds tempting.
?
I’m late to chime in, but I’d love to have a few mls of this. I really want the Origins ginger to work for me, but it’s just too sweet.
Hi! Never too late! I am starting a list.
SOTD = Guerlain Ambre Eternal
It has cardamom according to Fragrantica; I’ll just say it is well blended with all the spice! On me, this is a woody, spicy, lightly fruity leather. I have a la goutte parfumee travel spray. It is absolutely hitting the spot right now.

The polls from yesterday yielded 5 for having Monday’s off vs 2 for Friday’s. I am considering taking every Monday off through the rest of the year and still have days to carry over to 2021. The only thing stopping me is that I would end up working 10+ hours the rest of the week every week just to make up for it.
As to responsibility for childcare and the like, I look at it as providing “access to” options at a reasonable cost with the cost graduated to income tiers (similar to healthcare) and offering it in such a way that is fair.
Mondays off are working out quite well for me as well,I can get used to it!
Heh, me too except for making up for it everyday for the rest of the year!
You smell wonderful! I have a tiny sample of Ambre Éternel and save it for highlight days so I really enjoy it.
Thanks, I am smelling delightfully SPICY!
Since you often end up working on some weekend’s, will that count towards getting mondays off without working ten hours sometimes?
Unfortunately, no; however, it takes the potential guilt of getting done earlier at any time.
So you are definitely in a “use it or lose it” situation with vakay time?
I have 34 days this year and have barely taken any so I better get busy with scheduling my days!
?
Wearing By Kilian In the City of Sin: it has cardamom, and seems to go well with the apocalyptic sky outside. I don’t remember ever seeing anything like that. And it seems it’s getting darker from the time I woke up (and it’s not even noon yet).
When this perfume was released, I liked it, and I loved that serpent clutch. But the more I was thinking about it, the more it seemed that I liked the clutch more than perfume, but I didn’t have any use for that type of accessory – so, I persuaded myself not to buy it. I have probably one wear left in my sample, I still like it, so I start questioning my decision not to buy. But a refill bottle seems too mundane, and I still don’t need that clutch (but still like it 🙂 ). Decisions, decisions…
That clutch was my only reason for buying Good girl gone bad!And then the perfume kinda grew on me too.Haha
Bergdorfs giftcard event going on ($35 off $250, $100 off $500, $250 off $1,000, $625 off $2,500).
Very busy working day. Back to read comments later.
Wearing 4711 Mandarine & Cardamom.
Happy Wednesday! ?
Happy Wednesday M!?
Waving hello! ??
Cold and dreary again. Feeling a little cruddy, so didn’t want to try Le Lion until I’m in better form. I went with Carcharel Eden because it’s light and airey.
Love Eden,truly smells unique!
It really is different. Very transparent, it’s like watercolor.
Perfect description!
Hope you feel better soon!
Hope tomorrow is a better day for you! ?
Take care lillyjo. I hope you feel better tomorrow.
Boo hiss for not feeling well! I hope that passes very quickly. It’s too soon for the crud, IMO!
Hi all, my SOTD is Killian’s Straight To Heaven.
The skies over SF are surreal, it looks like it’s 7:30pm vs. 11::00am. Red, smokey, and dark.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CE7JBs5B6rH/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet
I see we had perfume ideas from the same train of thought 😉
Hey there! Great minds think alike! 😀
That *does* look like Mars!
That is kinda freaky. Good luck ST.
As much as I love spicy perfumes, I am surprised that I don’t have more cardamom. Part of the problem is that I keep craving other stuff than the CP the last couple weeks. Seeing as it was hard to get interested even in perfume for a while, I’ll take that as a good thing.
So today it’s Lubin Idole for me and yes, I do smell terrific. Happy hump day!
You do smell terrific!
SOTD Rihanna Rebelle. I dislike very much the strong presence of ginger in it, but once that goes to the sidelines the berry and cocoa with some kind of floral make a wonderful workplace companion scent.
Thanks for mentioning the ginger. Now I know it’s not a safe blind buy for me.
A Wednesday that feels like Tuesday. My days are so off.
Anyhoo, I’m living it up in Le Lion thanks to Hajusuuri’s split! Holy cow, I’m a big fan and so is the hubs. I sprayed it as soon as I got it and my hubs immediately commented- and he’s usually iffy about Chanels. Likes some but usually not enough to comment. I can’t stop sniffing myself. I can totally see the Shalimar connection, but even more so, it reminds me of a more complex Geisha Noire. That’s immediately what I thought when I sniffed it. Definitely more lemon/bergamot in the Le Lion opening but the dry down is very similar to Geisha Noire. I sprayed on each arm just to check I wasn’t crazy. If you like GN, I think you’d love this.
Oh it does sound good!Cannot wait to get a whiff myself!
Ooh, I love Geisha Noire!
I think you should try this one for sure!
It is very unisex and you may not be the only one to share with the hubs!
I was similarly discombobulated this morning, too. It definitely felt like Tuesday, even though the radio was telling me otherwise.
I thought it was Friday for a while after I woke up. Obviously I was very discombobulated also, though I thought more time had passed.
Halloooooo!!
Crazy/Busy/Lovely/semi-normal day at work.I so needed a “normal” day,my wish was granted!
Organza was perfect today, and I must say the 80’s/90’s huge florals from Givenchy and Rochas are so wonderful!
You all smell lovely as usual!
Thank you for indulging in my late-night mushy comment yesterday!Haha!
Love and Hugs!
??✌?
I missed last night’s mushing so here’s some for today ?
Smelling great today!
Yay for “normal” days!
Big fan of Rochas Byzance. 🙂 Those were the days!
A “normal” day sounds awesome.
Steak Au Poivre Day – I’m in!
SOTD: Coromandel
You smell nice!
No CP points for me today. SOTD is a sampling of current Shalimar EDP on one wrist and a flanker (Shalimar Initial L’eau) on the other. Being new to this, I’m always surprised by my impressions. When I tried the flanker a few days ago, I thought it smelled nice and very obviously related to Shalimar. Now that I have one on each wrist they seem like much more distant cousins! Bumbling around with my nose, a bunch of samples, and a spreadsheet has been a fun and comforting distraction for the past six months.
I’m always surprised at how my nose will perceive a perfume depending on the day.. my mood etc…
I have realised that I really like cardamom in perfumes, so I’ll be making notes this week when I get the chance to read everyone’s comments 🙂
Meanwhile, I’ve chosen Jovoy’s Remember Me for today – it’s right on the verge of too sweet, but doesn’t quite tip over.
Spritzing some Douceur de Siam. Wishing everyone well,
You smell lovely.
In other news, DH reports that my Jacques Fath samples arrived today!!! I forget who at NST mentioned this but I think it will be fun. If anyone else got theirs, chime in about what’s great. I think there was a rose one that sounded good???
Mine came in today as well but I haven’t cracked them open yet.
I’m looking forward to hearing what both of you have to say about said samples!
I love cardamom as a note. Today trying Maya Njie’s Nordic Cedar in which it plays a lead role. So far I like it a lot. I think it is safe to assume Maya Njie is a big cardamom fan too, since it is in Vaniij too, so two of five in the line.
Nice! Looking forward to trying them.
Curious what you think. The Nordic Cedar to me is very much about the spices, with something creamy underlying it all. Very nice.
Grey and humid today. More laundry but less kitty snuggles. So far all the packages that Mr. Jalapeno or I have ordered have arrived exactly when the tracking said they would, even with a holiday weekend. Thumbs up for all the people who make that possible.
SOTD = Fat Electrician again.
It’s humid here too and the temps are back in the 80s. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow.
Less kitty snuggles is not good.
Kitty snuggles depend on the mood of the cats, and today one of them had a world-class “thundering” episode. She hasn’t torn thru the house like that in ages. Much calmer now, so there might be some late snuggles tonight.
I managed a 5k walk after work! I carried an umbrella just in case bit I dis not have to use it.
Oy! But did not have to use it. Jeez Louise!
Nice! I had a bit of rain this afternoon which only made the muggies worse. ?
SOTD is Ineke Jaipur Chai for cardamom points. The cardamom note is not distinct since it blends with the other spice notes.I can’t really smell much after 2 hours but initially it was a strong scent.I really like it but find I like it more in cooler weather.
Bedtime scent last night, a little after midnight: LUSH Cardamom and Coffee. I put a little of the solid perfume on my wrists. I found it to be quite soothing. I may do that again tonight. I also saw that one of the folks who so usefully made lists of fragrances that have cardamom in them (Thank you!) included Jaisalmer (sp?) on that list. I really like that collection of incense fragrances. That might be nice to put on later this evening.
Too bad the CdG Incense collection seems to be getting scarce.
That’s alarming! I got a nice decant of Kyoto in a swap a while ago (Thank you!), but I’ll have to look for some decants of the ones I think of as more “churchy.” I remember that I really liked the sample of Avignon that I tried.
Avignon and Kyoto aren’t too hard to find, but the other 3 are.
Jessica Simpson Taste Delicious- thanks to NST reader.
Backstory: a couple years ago I got really into fragrance and this website was a huge help. I even got some samples and decants from a generous person in the freebie-meet, including Taste Delicious. For some reason I forgot about fragrance entirely for a while but now I’m back trying learn more and understand what I have.
So definitely get the vanilla and white chocolate notes, which I always think is sweeter than milk chocolate. It smells like a grocery store mini vanilla cupcake. Can’t really pick out the honey or apricot. About 2 hours in and I can just barely smell it. I was worried about putting too much on but it kind of just seems like a body spray.
I’ve never seen this one. Only the Fancy line where I am at.
Me either. This line predates the Fancy line by about 4 years. I used to have Fancy Nighgs.
Another late post today. No points for me as I wore Splendiris.
If you liked what perfume you picked today, that’s a win in my book!
And you smell super good! I have a travel spray of this!
Yay! You got it!
Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluta
Second that Acqua di Parma. Mine is Arancia di Capri today:)
I’m a very boring person who is into Bath and Body works this summer. A Thousand Wishes. I should hate it, but I love it. Cheap, lasts all day. As if I couldn’t get more boring, I ordered Omnia Crystalline this week. I did bleach my hair and think I’ll put in purple this weekend though.
Oh crap I missed the point. I don’t think I have any cardamoms. Maybe in those Eldos, but I threw them away. Didn’t like them. I’m getting pretty delirious, almost ready to find more cheap stuffs like love baby soft. This is a sickness.
Aw. You’re allowed to like what you like. Any fragrance that comforts you in this weird year should be okay to indulge in, I would think.
Seconding neyronrose in saying that you are allowed to like what you like. No judgement here.
A Thousand Wishes is actually pretty great. My favorite was Forever Red, of course they had to discontinue it.
