It's Tuesday and Banana Split Day. A very happy 90th to Sir Thomas Sean Connery. What fragrance are you wearing?
Tired, tired, tired...I'm going to finish my Starbucks Latte and pick a fragrance from what you all are wearing.
Reminder: 8/28 will be Dealer's Choice, edition 4...propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Spode Blue Room Sunflower Teapot ("Bring splendour to every pour with this Blue Room Sunflower teapot. The magnificent design, first launched in 1812, beautifully envelopes the curves of the teapot, leaving a creamy white spout and handle. Designed with hundreds of years experience for the perfect pour.") is £55 at Portmeiron.
Trayee, that I wanted to wear yesterday. My life gets more chaotic everyday, but it’s all in a good cause, so I’m not complaining (really).
Love the teapot.
I’m with you in the tired Robin, although I did manage almost 7 hours of sleep last night.
Same here. Woke up feeling a bit weary. I’d like a few days in a row of really blissful sleep. Now that I think about it, though, why settle for a few days? I’d like a lifetime of really blissful sleep every night.
Yes I agree!
I used to be such a good sleeper, but something went wrong in my thirties and now at fifty plus it’s not getting any better. Mind you, under normal circumstances I manage 8 hours on most nights, so I should not complain really.
Everybody’s sleep needs are different, so I think it’s totally ok to say 8 hours isn’t enough for you! I regularly need more than 9 hours to feel truly rested. I wish I didn’t. I could have so much more time in my days, if I could function on less! But my body gives me very immediate feedback when I don’t sleep enough (migraines, upset stomach, etc, etc), so I’ve learned to (mostly) honor it.
You smell lovely! Moving is such a pain…but hopefully great things await ?
Luckily I’m really looking forward to actually living there. Organising things is not something I enjoy, but it has to be done.
Isn’t Trayee beautiful? Still my favourite Vermeire.
We share quite a few favourites, apparently.
I took a little wee nap on the sofa. I am up again.
I do not have Trayee so I need to keep reading for my day’s scent…it is very unusual for me to not be wearing fragrance by now!
I’ve been taking naps lately, they do help a bit.
You need something nice and crisp I guess.
Good luck with the move, it’s something I know not many enjoy. Naps are great for restoration, I try to take a quick 15 minute in the afternoon (@ 1 or 2) and it helps. Too much nap or too late and it disrupts the evening’s sleep. I’ve found a quick 15 does the trick.
Ciao a tutti! Beautiful teapot Robin. Handing you another coffee if you need it

Polka-dot dress and a lot of blue eyeshadow today.
The only tea I had was Marco Polo jelly on my toast. Coffee is my poison this morning, a cappuccino made by chubby buddha who drank all the foam instead of pouring it into my cup.
Chubby Buddha is kid after my own heart! ?
He would gladly make you one Deva, just don’t expect any milk!
I could sure use another!
In a polka-dot dress too today! Went out for groceries in the morning, and was in a co-ordinating polka-dot mask…
I need a polka dot mask
It’s my favourite design! The runner-up is one with a scroll pattern on it…
Awww Chubby Buddha is sneaky haha!
He said “this is my milk soup”
Very tired and sleepy today! Coffee and more coffee to the rescue! ☕☕☕
Joining Therabbitsflower cp Finish it!
Wearing Boucheron Iris de Syracuse. Sample thunk! Beautiful iris scent and it is working nicely on another hot and muggy day ?.
Happy Tuesday! ?
Hope that coffee kicked in and iris on a hot and muggy day does sound good!
Thank you! That combo is working pretty good for me today! ?
I’ve had two coffees and an iced tea. I suppose I should move on to water now…
I have had 3 coffee and a diet coke so far. It is working, but with so much heat and humidity I have also been drinking water in between!
I’m supposed to get a bit of a break with the weather tomorrow, so maybe you will, too?
We will be in the upper 70’s tomorrow, but very humid. Back to very high temps on Thursday and for the rest of the week. Hope next week is better!
Another neglected bottle is taken out for a spritz: Andy Tauer Incense Rose. It is still love, especially after the citrus settles and it smell of rose cola.
Oh yum. Not sure where mine is, I should find it.
I think I am going to join you in some Incense Rose….
Eau de Cartier Concentree today, while waiting for Marco.
Be safe and well.
Well you smell calm cool and collected! Hope things go well.
SOTD: Narciso EDP
Gosh, when was the last time I indulged in a banana split?! Or an ice cream sunday in general? I need to get over to Serendipity on the east side of town for one of their amazing ice cream extravaganzas. They actually sell pints now although I’ve not seen any in stores yet.
If you want a good gelato, and like pistachio, I would make it down to Mott St (if you can bare it) to Polo Sud and try theirs. They make it with pistachios from Sicily, and its cheaper than a plane ticket. The owner also speaks Italian if you want to give a nice “Grazie”
One thing I love about NYC you can get a good gelato and a good pizza
Oh! Love pistachio! Will make this happen. Thanks!
Oh, I do adore a great gelato (of any flavor). Thanks for the rec!
And yes, New York pizza is the gold standard in my house.
In SF, my favorite gelato is from PHILMORE on Fillmore St., SF. Their Rose Petal, Salted Caramel, Sicilian Pistachio, and Marzipan are delicious.
There is a lot of ice cream talk going around today! I may just have to stop on the way home…*hands out enabler badges.*
I wonder if Serendipity still has frozen hot chocolate ?
Going through some summer ennui and inertia right now so I’m not able to even decide on a scent of the day. Probably a good day for Kyoto.
I’m not ready for fall but I’m so tired of summer. Wah. What a minor problem amongst so many major ones.
I have had much ennui this year. Hopefully, this too shall pass.
I’ve noticed the light really feeling like waning summer light on my last few walks. It’s getting easier to believe that fall is just around the corner.
The sun has started rising significantly later over the past two weeks. It makes me wistful when I take the dog out in the morning.
I just noticed that this weekend when I got up for work. Sigh.?
Also not ready for fall.
I guess I’m the lone stranger here. I’m so, so ready for fall. ?
Wearing vintage Vol de Nuit edt today. It’s one of my neglected scents, so 8 sprays!
You smell amazing!
Thank you! I forget how good it is until I put it on.
Sticking with C so Chanel box of eels edt, which is looking kind of low in the bottle. Hmmmm
Flu shot was a wowzer, my left arm feels kinds useless this morning.
Twins!! Is this the second day in a row?! ?
Aspara, did you get the high strength version? Dreading it a bit but need to get it over with.
They are not even promoting it here yet, Which I do NOT understand. When I asked the PhD, she said they were waiting until September..?! They are not refusing if you ask for it, so I would just go ask. I got the the FluBlok Quad last week and had absolutely no issues after injection.
So strange! If I wait until September my doctor will give me a lecture! Yes I want the quad if available.
At my doctors office, the first people to get the flu shot is the good insurance people. I have crappy insurance so I have to wait. The pharmacy doesn’t care though, so I go there. Probably next week.
Does this mean they don’t call you or you don’t have priority even if you show up? Methinks that’s not only unconscionable, it’s also illegal.
I did. I got the 2021 over 65 years old super duper shot. The whole pharmacy team had already gotten theirs.
I got my stationary bike out of the garage where the movers put it last November, wiped it clean and it’s now downstairs.
The pharmacist told me to drink lots of water and don’t work out for 24 hours. So gosh, I had to walk by the bike yesterday. oh well, what’s another day.
So, yes, my arm hurts like hell. Woke me up at 4am but I did go back to sleep.
My arm usually hurts for a couple of days. And I don’t sleep well these days. The dreams are surreal. Thanks!
Wow, that’s quite the shot if your arm is still hurting today.
Bam! Bam! Bam! On the front door was my wake-up call this morning at 8am. Neighbors-Ugh! ?
Since I’m the queen of Procrastination, I now have a very busy day, which is my own fault, so not complaining (but still kinda complaining).
To try to retain a semblance good will, I’m in Box of Eels. I hope it works! This is one of those perfumes that easily moves from Boudoir to Boardroom, which just so happens to be my suggestion for a future Community Project.
If I were a weather god, I would soak California with a drenching rain and blow Laura right out of the gulf. Thinking of all the people a and wildlife being affected by these fires and storms, not to mention covid. My gosh, we need something good to happen in a massive scale.
You smell wonderful and I love your suggestion for a future CP!
Great cp idea!
Don’t forget about me if you ever get to be a weather God!
I would trust you as a weather god.
Great idea for a cp! Agree, we need something massively good to happen!
You might want to check this out, Deva. Only 4 months old and as cool as a cucumber about inadvertently falling into the water twice.
So cute! I just love the wire personality and temperament! It must be the terrier in them.
Yes to some good right now. We really really really need it
I’d take your “Bam! Bam! Bam!” as a wake-up call over the roar of riding lawnmowers and leafblowers.
Sampling this morning. Mendittorosa Ithaka…just a dab. Seemed very, very nice but it’s too hot for that one. So, will save for another day.
So, a few dabs of Yerbamate by Villoresi. I won’t thunk this sample, as it seems too strong to dunk myself. But it’s nice and green on this hot day. Will likely set it aside to pass along.
Ahhh…banana splits make me think of Fenton’s in Oakland. Loved that place. Good memories.
I like the perfume out Mendittorosa! Glad you are sampling
Woke up in Amouage Do a for her today. I was was feeling pretty good until about a half an hour ago. My mother asked me to make a vet appointment for one of my dogs to have a lump looked at. Jake has a few fatty tumors. I made an appointment and said that our normal vet is booked until the end of October. So I took the first available appointment. Mom wasn’t happy because she wanted our normal vet but he always seems booked. Yes, I kind of get her point of why she said that why go to him when we can find a vet closer to us and get in sooner. My response was to find another vet if she wanted, make the appointment and cancel the other because I am not her secretary. She wasn’t happy but I can’t keep doing the things she can’t be bothered to do and my own nonsense between shifts at work. Switched to vintage Givenchy III before work.
I’m sorry to hear she was ungrateful after all the work you did. That’s always frustrating.
Sorry for the Mom stress but you smell great!
My theme for this week seems to be wearing Neela Vermeire perfumes. I wore Rahele yesterday, have been wearing Bombay Bling as my after work/evening/ bedtime scent and this morning I’m giving Niral (from a sample) another go. So far so good.
Ah, we are house twins. How do you feel about Niral? (autocorrect wants to change it to Viral ?) I got Rahele on a whim in January as it was discounted and I enjoyed it. No regrets it’s lovely and very wearable.
I enjoy it, but am not yet really smitten. I think I will want to get Bombay Bling first. I’m on a no buy for a few months, so Bombay will have to wait a little while.
This is my second time wearing Niral and I like it very much so far. I feel there is a common thread among some if not all NV creations which I’ve only started to appreciate properly in the last year or so. It’s rich and smooth and very elegant to me. If it came in the duo travel set I would definitely buy it. Bombay, by the way, does. As such, I will spend more time with this sample and wait for a Luckyscent coupon.
If I get BB it will be the travel set.
It seems to make sense that there should be a common thread, they are all Duchaufours and NV seems to have a clear idea of what she wants with the house.
The ones I liked the least were Ashoka and Pichola.
Niral reminds me a little of Traversée.
Good point about BD.
I cannot believe I’ve never smelled Traversée (at least not that I remember). At first Niral reminded me of Cuir de Nacre by Ann Gérard because of the iris and leather combo but while CdN was more dry and austere, Niral is sweeter and creamier without being a gourmand (plus it’s got rose and spices and other things going on in there).
Ashoka and Pichola are my least favorites from the brand.
I had read this before I ever tried Niral, so I tried with a certain bias, but the resemblance is there. I never really fell for Cuir de Nacre.
And her view on Traversée: https://boisdejasmin.com/2010/11/lartisan-parfumeur-traversee-du-bosphore-perfume-review.html
Nice theme! I like almost all NV scents, but some feel really similar to me. Niral I remember really liking, but I sampled it a long time ago.
Neela Vermeire perfumes seem to be getting hard to find. Or am I looking in the wrong places?
So, I propose a theme along the lines of “My other love,” scents that connect to other passions you have besides perfume. No secret that for me, one of them is weightlifting. I like to wear colognes to the gym–something “fresh” and “clean” and maybe even a bit “masculine,” so that no one is likely to complain that the gym smells like an “old lady.” Fico di Amalfi will represent that for me today, but it easily could have been MJ Bang (which is less clean at the start, but settles into traditional masculine cologne territory soon enough).
I wanted to like Bang, but I recall it had some modern musk or aquatic notes that go all wrong on me. LOL re: your wearing the “manly” fragrances to the gym.
Maybe they offer support during weightlifting…?
Hey, I’ll take whatever boost I can get. I don’t exactly meet people’s stereotypes for “weightlifter.”
Well, I was going to reach for Fico di Amalfi, and then my hand just wandered over to my old bottle of Shalimar instead. This is definitely a fragrance I don’t wear to the gym! But I smell nummy.
Not everyone who lifts looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger!
True enough. Even so, I’ve had to deal with a lot of assumptions and prejudice at gyms over the years.
Le Labo Iris 39 for me today.
It’s such a lovely perfume.
Le Labo is the “official” perfume house of NYC. I smell santal 33 everywhere..
That’s an interesting info tidbit
Here’s an article about LL Santal 33. It’s not a bad scent, but it is nuclear on me.
Interesting. Santal 33 is the scent of all the luxurious body products in the bathroom at Hotel Pulitzer in Amsterdam. Pretty sure that will be my association with it forever, now.
yes..you would think the city exclusive for NYC would be smelled more often, but I smell Santal 33 everywhere in the streets, in my elevator..
It’s quite strong, IMO. I was surprised at it being the scent of body products at a hotel–usually they choose something that’s less of a statement for that sort of thing. I can imagine that if folks are wearing it, you know it!
I loved it when the Ritz had Bvlgari’s Au the Blanc as their hotel body product line.
A few years ago, they changed to something blah and I’m certain, less expensive.
Joining you very late in wearing LL Iris 39. It took me a while to love this one.
Good morning Y’all,
Felt like Clinique My Happy Cocoa and Cashmere today! It’s always ok to smell like a freshly baked brownie….
Always ok to eat them too!?
Absolutely! I eat something chocolate every single day. Can’t think of a day I’ve ever missed! LOL
I really admire your consistency and dedication!
Wow, that’s pretty great!
Ice cream buzz and brownies…now I want a scoop of vanilla bean on a fresh brownie with some pecans sprinkled all over!
Last night I decided I wanted to rebuy Tocca Margeux. It’s now nowhere to be found at a normal price. I had it once, but got rid of it.
My cp theme is to wear a perfume with tuberose. Sunday I wore original Juicy Couture, Monday was Carnal Flower and today is LouLou. I’m just now smelling a similarity between LouLou and Poison. Interesting.
To all my friends dealing with mother nature, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Stay safe.
Missed you for the last few days. Hope all is well, and you have your AC on!
Thanks mtg, it’s nice to be missed. I’m a little stressed lately. Of course the AC is on.. so muggy, I opened the window at 6 a.m. and shut it right back down.
My scent for yesterday, Memo Marfa, is a great tuberose!
I might try it then. I’m always on the lookout for tuberose.
You smell fabulous! I have some Poison Esprit de parfum, and that’s where I noticed the Poison – LouLou connection.
Funny, how I never noticed it before. Take away the powder in LouLou and you have a tamer poison.
If you look at “tamer poison” really really quickly, it was easy to mistake it for t-mp-n ?
LOL! You’re right!
are you officially retired now, lillyjo??
Oh no, I doubt I will ever be retired. I believe it’s Pixel who retired this month.
That is right. Apsara, they both have greenish identicons, maybe that’s why you got confused?
Michael Kors is definitely a tuberose perfume! Have you tried that one?
I have but it’s been years.
I’ve noticed that my bottle of it is smelling better as it sits. This perfume might be better with a bit of age on it…
I’m in Dune. I don’t really have a theme for this week’s cp, just grabbing whatever I feel like wearing, so maybe that is my theme.
Made a target run with my older daughter yesterday because she wanted to get a few things for her new apartment. She’s getting excited and it suddenly struck me that we’ll be taking her back to school in just 9 days, and now I feel verklempt. She’s been home since March and I’ve just gotten so used to her being here.? That is not to say that I’ve taken it for granted, I’m well aware that if it weren’t for the pandemic I would not have had all this extra time with her. Definitely a silver lining.
I agree, the extra quality time was very much a silver lining. Exciting though that she has her first apartment!
You smell wonderful and glad you had that extra family time!
My theme is “I can wear it to work only when I’m teaching online” and today I’m in Dame Perfumery’s Monsoon. I absolutely love it but a few students were like “Yucko!” so I save it for off-time.
We’re only 7 school days in and already I’ve had a freshman come to my office hours in tears because remote high school is the worst. I agree 100%. If you have older kids who are starting school online this year, give them an extra hug. And young kids? Give them 12 extra hugs.
Oh no. Yes, my daughter will be starting her freshman year. Hugs to everybody all around!
Oh, that’s so heartbreaking! I wish I could reach out to all my former students and let them know they’re not alone in all this. ❤️
Poor student! Thank you teachers for making the best of remote learning. I can see that some kids would just not take to it. It’s hard to imagine how it might have been for me.
my older daughter was quite upset in week one but has now resigned herself to online school somewhat. We do get to hear a lot more about school though from her – yesterday, I got to take an AP history test after dinner, for example (she wanted to show us how hard it was). She would MUCH prefer her friends over her parents, though.
Younger daughter invited me to her P.E. class workout today (it wasn’t live). I mastered the square dance moves like a champ!
We’re still gearing up for our year to start, but I’m exhausted after 5 hours in Zoom trainings today, even though they were facilitated well and it was nice to see my fellow teachers. The kids are going to be exhausted, too.
Good luck to teachers, students, and parents everywhere!
Awwwwwww! Poor kid.
SOTD is Tom Ford White Suede. Love this one! I only wish it would last longer…
I did not remember that one being so short lived, but I will take your word for it!
I looked in my drawer for something and didn’t find it but did find Amouage Beloved. Wow is this stuff beautiful! It makes me just want to bite my wrist! Spicy clove immortelle rose, yum! I’m not getting the strong animal is that others note. Maybe later. The latest hurricane forecast has Laura shifting west more toward Galveston, but it’s still very uncertain. I’m waiting awhile longer before hauling all my flowerpots inside. Not only is that a chore but the cats will go crazy and make a real mess with them. I’m having warm thoughts about pistachio gelato after reading the comments above! Mmm! There is a lovely little restaurant/cafe/bakery here where the owner, who is Persian, makes fabulous gelato and his pistachio is to die for, though tbh I often just get his sublime vanilla! Or coffee!
My ice cream lemming is rattling his cage. Pistachio is one of my favorites, too. Here’s hoping Laura gives up and goes away! My cat may not have seen a potted plant in months, but let her get near one and she goes into a plant-chewing trance.
I have gelato on the brain too, now I am thinking of going downtown on Friday for some
Ha! You just reminded of a new gelato place that opened. I am taking a little walk after work…..
SOTD is Brooks Brothers Black Fleece epd, the version in the fun white bottle which I stalked for some time. I think NST gets an enabler badge for this, but I may have come across it because Steve DeMarcado is the nose. He also did Fancy Nights and the two Queen Latifah perfumes that I enjoy. Black Fleece is not much like any of those three, except maybe Queen for just a while. I am getting some good ideas for Dealer’s Choice: “Finish It!” stands out as something that I should do. Also the idea of long-unused bottles. Maybe call it “OH! I have THAT?”
You reminded me that I don’t even know if Brooks Brothers sold or just disappeared or ? I should check. At one time they had a decent range of fragrances.
Maybe they are reorganizing in a bankruptcy? I have never tried any of the other fragrances. But the presentation and bottle for Black Fleece are very high quality and the scent is very good.
I haven’t heard of anything else re: Brooks Brothers since they declared bankruptcy.
I like that theme!
I like the theme “OH! I have THAT?”
BTW, these are ideas from other posts here; I’m just glomming on!
I’m wearing Eau Duelle by Diptyque and enjoying the vanilla in the heat here in New England.
Now that I’m retired, I sleep 8 hours a night. It’s nice to be able to wake up naturally most mornings!
farouche! I have not seen you in forever! Hope you’re doing well!!!
Hajusuuri! Yes, I’ve been well. Thanks for asking. Just went through a period of being slightly “off” perfume but am happy to be back.
Dame Perfumery Earth Mother
You smell wonderful today.
I’m tired too… still evacuated. My cat and one of my friends’s cats play footsie under the bedroom door at 5-ish am every day. The humans are not real amused.
The fire near me (“CZU Lightning Complex”) hasn’t grown in days, and containment is slowly increasing, but no change in evacuation orders, boo.
SOTD is smoke. The air is really nasty out there today.
Ugh. I am so sorry!
Wow, thought you’d be home by now. Sorry for the nasty air…
Footsies at 5AM are no fun but boy does that look cute in my mind! I hope you get to go back in just a few days. Good to hear containment is going up.
“friends’s” ? i choose to blame autocorrect. or perhaps lack of caffeine (must remedy)
I hope things improve soon and you can return home and see clear skies above you.
Oh I missed this news!! Sorry you had to evacuate
Oh no, I missed that you had to evacuate I’m so sorry. We have not had to evacuate, and I’ve been feeling sorry enough for myself that I can’t go outside for more than a couple minutes at a time.
Did I also miss your retirement, or are you struggling to work through this?
I retired on Friday, though it hasn’t really sunk in, since my life is up-ended entirely right now. Once I get home, maybe retirement will feel like it’s real.
Glad to hear that containment is up for the fire close to your home! I hope that you will be able to go back soon.
My theme today is Oregon Beach Vacation
SOTD is a combo of Prada Amande and BP’s Petals, heliotrope and Ambrette. I used coconut oil as a moisturizer, so I smell really soft, nutty and gently sweet.
The BP fragrance has not been reordered, and so unless I order another bottle, this one is it!
A perfect day with a high of 83F.
Am writing 3 resumes for a friend who is looking for a job -and my mind feels so engaged now, so creative! I am working on my bookcase project BUT this sort of project, with a deadline and focus, really gets my brain humming!
Wow, you are getting your brain going by writing resumes…possibly my least favorite thing on earth! Good for you, and hope he or she gets the job of their dreams.
I think I get it. I always kind of enjoyed finding creative ways to fit the right buzzwords into my resume without it seeming forced or excessive. It’s a kind of creative writing, for sure!
I think i is easier for me to do it for others because I have a more positive yet objective view, whereas for me, i am more hesitant, self critical.
You are a friend to do that, and heliotrope and nuttiness would make any task better. A friend of mine has to submit a resume and we were just commiserating on Sunday. She was able to talk to the person who retired from the job so that made things a little better.
It’s hard looking for a job, and any help a person can get goes a long way. It’s always good to have a support network to help.
We really are having perfect weather right now. Makes me wish I could go camping.
I know! The weather is truly perfect with cerulean blue skies and cool nights made for stargazing and rest.
Oh, you smell marvelous!
And what a kind thing to do for your friend! Most folks I know hate resume writing!
You’re a good friend to write the resumes. I always ask them to come up with one, then I look at it and make notes, discuss my observations with many questions injected and then say send me the updated one when they’re ready.
That’s what happened with this one; but this person has a broad, deep work history (he’s an actor with a MFA who is ALSO a veteran and ALSO has years of teaching, training and team leadership skills, IN ADDITION to his theater and tv credits. He just wants to settle down now in Boston area, so with all that talent and skill he needed some one to step in, look objectively at his skill set and potential, and write 3 resumes for him, so that he has flexibility in marketing himself. He will no doubt be filling out the applications online, but with his connections, my connections and all of our friends connections and the resumes, we hope to bypass the online app thing and market on the strengths and experience.
Commando today..after a cruddy Monday. I called the Guerlain boutique to see if they have the new iris scent..they aren’t answering. I wonder if they have opened the store back up or maybe they cut the hours..idk.
Meh supposed to get to 110 today..August in the Mojave is quite brutal lol. Frozen Gatorades have gotten me through lol.
I do not think it is in the US yet. Worth checking though.
We had a week of 100F temps here in Portland- I cannot imagine an entire season of it.
Fils de Dieu today, but no CP in mind. Maybe I will get an idea until friday
Ha, same here! Although if I had plenty of ideas I would not need to do a dealer’s choice topic
Gorgeous Teapot Robin!
I wrote this sitting outside the vet clinic waiting for my black kitty Kate, who needed an exam and bloodwork done for an upcoming dental. Feline dental bills suck but the vet is utterly enamored of Kate (called her adorable 3x in one conversation) and that makes me feel a little better.
SotD is Dua Fragrance Aoud Bleu Intense, in my I-didn’t-expect-to like-this CP. It’s “inspired by” Fragrance du Bois Oud Bleu Intense, which I got a sample of at Lucky Bar in NYC this January.
I was not really an oud fan either time I worked in the Middle East, so when I asked the Lucky Scent Bar worker to show me his current favorites this January, I sniffed the Fragrance du Bois quite reluctantly. Contrary to all my expectations, the scent was super refreshing and soothing.
Of course, it’s also astronomically expensive, so when I realized this Dua version was around I went for it. If anything I like it better than the FdB!
I like your CP idea!
I second that CP idea!
Did your kitty’s vet appointment turn out OK?
She’ll go in on Thursday to have two teeth pulled and the rest cleaned, but yes, her bloodwork looks perfect and she’s a very good cute girl and super gentle at the vet, so they LOVE her.
Theme: That Reminds Me. One friend needlessly apologized for not doing any shopping errands in France for me , so I put on my sample of Arquiste Boutonniere. Another perfume pal then mentioned 1000 Flowers Reglisse Noire so I have put a spritz of that as well.
Nice theme – but I guess you could end up full of spritzes as the day progresses
There is *every* danger of that – an advantage at least of being out of sniffing range of most people during a day.
I like this theme!
Love the teapot! And Sean Connery – 90? Holy smokes ?
SOTD = Hermès L’Ombre des Merveilles
The only thing going for it is the bottle itself. I described the juice as “insipid”.
Postal service woes:
1. For the 3rd time in as many months, mail I out out was not picked up! It is very obvious that the mail person was there because I got mail, but he just shoved the envelopes further in. What the – – ?
2. I ordered stamps last Sunday. So far, 7 business days later, no sight of the stamps! For goodness sake, they are the new Ruth Asawa stamps. They could be popular but still, I don’t think the demand has outnumbered the supply at my post office – the township demographic does not lend itself to being knowledgeable about this artist for there to be a run on these … but who knows?
sounds like a passive-agressive mail person! I wonder if the stamps were not in stock initially? Our little campus mail office is always out of the pretty / interesting stamps, and I cannot imagine who is buying them there.
I stalked him today. When I looked outside in between Zoom meetings, I saw the mail truck but no postman to be seen. I looked again a few minutes later and I saw him haul something from the back of his truck. Then I heard a little metallic clang and I immediately opened the door and poked my head out to ask him if he took my mail. Yep, one day later.
Here’s some pictures of Ruth Asawa’s designs so you can make your own stamps whike you wait!
They are so pretty. Very organic with a beautiful movement symmetry.
Aww dang it, that you don’t like the smell. Maybe it will be better in the winter?
I doubt it but one never knows. With that said, I was slightly mortified when I saw that Christine Nagel liked the post or maybe just the photo. But, it is what it is … I usually stay more positive but this was done after five Zoom calls before 12:30pm so I think it’s ok to be cranky ?. I only have four tomorrow.
I love the new Ruth Asawa stamps, our PO in SF is out of them.
They are beautiful indeed!
I was rather gobsmacked to read that Sean Connery is 90!
Your comment about the Ruth Asawa stamps sent me over to the USPS website to have a look for myself. They’re lovely, but I am thinking I might have to get a sheet of the Bugs Bunny stamps. That was always a highlight of Saturday mornings… those Looney Toons cartoons!
Ha! I Have a sheet of the previous Bugs Bunny stamps!
Oh, Bugs Bunny stamps?? How fun!
Shalimar cousins/flankers week continues with Vetiver Oriental. Now, I swear I read in a forum thread this was a “descendant” of Shalimar, but this is a second cousin at best, and the one that leaves muddy footprints on your floors. But – I have Shalimar cologne arriving today (the new version), so I’m set for tomorrow unless I loathe it.
You smell great! Vetiver Oriental is one of the few vetivers that don’t go wrong on me and a scent I enjoy on its own, not just as a “study in vetiver” experience.
I love it too! One of my favorite Vetivers.
I broke my no buy today, ordering Shalimar cologne. I hope we both like it!
I already tried mine – more details tomorrow, I think this might be super similar to Bijoux Romantique. Will report back. If you like lemon chiffon cake scent, this will work for you :).
I’m wearing Aedes de Venustas and nursing my sore arm–I got my second Hepatitis A vaccination yesterday. I feel like everyday is the real-life equivalent of the movie Groundhog Day–the details vary a bit, but one day blends into the next until a month is a blur. I wonder what I will remember about this time in 10 years?
I might remember spending the month of June thinking it was May…
I fear I might still think it’s May. . .
Really. I was glad for the teapot on NST this morning; before seeing the teapot, I was not entirely sure if it was Tuesday or Wednesday.
When I was a kid, I always admired the brass perpetual calendar on my grandfather’s desk. I’m thinking I may need to get one now that I’m retired. Of course, then I will likely spend some part of each morning wondering if I already advanced it today or not…
This kind of calendar:
Oh that’s lovely!
Hi everyone- I’m going to go with an orange theme, my new favorite note. In Orange Bitters by JM today. Wonderful in the sunny heat
I made a welcome video for my class and it took sooo long and I’m not happy with the result but since there’s gonna be alot of videos in my near future best move on. They told us to be “relatable” so I included the new puppy in the vid for cuteness bonus points
And puppies always win the day. I’m sure your students will appreciate that!
That puppy is going to be the star of that video.
When we went online in the spring, I ended up only using my dog as a stand-in for the few videos I did because I was horrified by how I looked. Now we are online but synchronous so no more videos! They do take a long time. I’m sure they will love the puppy! my zoom profile pic is also of the dog. And my syllabus pics are all cats…
Dealer’s choice: The Long Way Home
Wear the perfume that travelled the greatest distance, went the strangest route, or took the longest time to reach you .
I am wearing a sample of Civet which travelled around America and then to Korea and Hong Kong and Sydney and Auckland and finally here . Luckily it bought a one way, round the world ticket.
Keep well everyone!
Another good idea – this is fun.
That’s a great theme!
MaHvelous DaHling, simply MaHvelous.
What you said!
Gardenias are my theme so I wore Marc Jacobs yesterday and am wearing Fauni today
In today’s finish it up project, I thunked a sample of Aftelier Tango. Gosh, I’m really in love with the dry down but it’s been discontinued. I see that I could custom order if I order two bottles at once, but at $180 a piece that’s very unlikely. Oh well, I’ll enjoy it as long as it lasts today.
Yes; that’s how some perfumes are!
SotD = Apres L’ondee
It’s been too long since I spent time with this delightful and delicate perfume. Apres L’ondee fits the vibe of this Tuesday-bluesday quite nicely.
Robin, I’m tired too, and that sunflower teapot is lovely. I used to have a thing for blue and white china. Still do, I just don’t let myself indulge it anymore.
Thinking of blue, I’ll wear L’Heure Bleue tonight, it works well with the faint remains of Apres L’ondee.
I don’t read as much as I used to. Goal for today: spend some quality time with a book. Not an avid reader of mysteries, but I’ve got a copy of P. D. James’ The Murder Room I’m going to try out. It came from a stack of books my neighbor left out on her porch with a “please help yourself” sign.
But first it’s time to attack today’s to do list again. Those breakfast dishes are starting to look a little annoyed with me.
P.D. James has written some excellent novels. My favourite of hers is called Death in Holy Orders. I hope you will enjoy The Murder Room.
I went on a P.D. James reading kick several years ago – I read many of the Adam Dalgleish novels, which were good.
Yes, I read all of hers and loved them. She also wrote The Children of Men, which was made into a so-so movie. The book is EXCELLENT and I highly recommend it. It’s separate and completely unconnected to her Dalgliesh novels.
thanks, austenfan! I’ll put Holy Orders in my library queue.
You smell great!
thank u, MossyBerry Apres L’ondee makes me smile!
The sky has been an odd, washed-out shade of pale blue for a good chunk of the day today. Maybe thunderstorms later on, maybe not. But it’s humid as all get out, yuck.
SOTD = repeating Flowerbomb La Vie En Rose, 2009 edition.
I got my walk in this afternoon. The guard at the office building where I now walk and very nicely told me that it’s ok to walk there but to stick to the front lots as he is concerned about cars going fast. I al ost told him that I would rather dodge cars than people bit since he was really nice about it, I just smiled and thanked him. On my way home (within 0.2 miles), I heard thunder!
Yeeps! I hope you got home without hearing anymore rumbles!
I’ve got similar weather. I went through a bottle of Flowerbomb about 5 years ago. I had a set with the shower gel and lotion. Both are very good quality imo.
I have a bottle of the original Flowerbomb that is old enough to let me know that the current perfume has definitely been reformulated. Way too warm to wear it now, though!
For my Stressbusters project, wearing SL Clair de Musc today. It’s sweeter than I remember.
Take care, everyone.
SL won me over with vetiver, in Vetiver Oriental, and with musk in Claire de Musc. You smell wonderful!
Thank you! I have some VO from a swap, and agree….very nice!
Late to the party.
Oh Robin I tried SO hard to purchase that darling teapot. It really spoke to me, alas it cannot be shipped to the US. I adore that little pot
I must console myself with some Guerlain AA Ginger Piccante.
I am sitting outside watching the thunderstorm.
It sounds like you may have to take a trip to the UK when this COVID thing is over!
Ha! Yes! Honestly I have never been.
Those morning glories on the pot – I thought it was beautiful, too!
Oh darn! Agree with hajusuuri, that calls for a trip over the pond.
Yes, I have a real crush on the new Goutal: Le Temps des Reves that costs more to ship here than it does to purchase it. .
