Le Labo has introduced Citron 28, the new city-exclusive fragrance for Seoul.
In the beginning, CITRON 28’s early codename was CITRON BOHEME; we wanted a real lemon perfume that wasn’t just lemon, but a twist on this icon of citruses.
"A mix and match of freshness and structure (lemon, ginger, and jasmine, resting on cedar and musks), it strikes the right balance between the original and the conservative. CITRON 28 meets the need for purity and simplicity and, as such, delivers something almost universal and easy to understand – yet remains inscrutable. This complex composition is dedicated to Seoul, an alpha city, one of the iconic capitals of the world. A city with its own contradictions, rooted in tradition and history yet at the forefront of all that is modern and forward thinking. Opposing forces that only a bohemian citrus can embrace."
Le Labo Citron 28, along with the brand's other city-exclusives, will be available worldwide every September. The rest of the year it will only be sold in Seoul. It is available in 15, 50, 100 and 500 ml ($132 - $1765).

Seriously, Le Labo has a tin ear: what dreadful timing to launch a city exclusive when NO ONE can travel. My crankiness towards their gimmicky, pointlessly exclusive marketing has increased exponentially (in case you couldn’t tell).
I am no fan of the city exclusive model, but I do think they typically do August knowing that everybody can order from anywhere in September.
But please feel free to be cranky 🙂
I get it, but the notes sound great. And if you live in Seoul, it’s something to check out! Since I don’t, I think I’ll try to sample in Sept.
What’s an alpha city? Also wonder how Limette 37 has done in sales? I don’t recall anyone mention wearing it on NST (I may have mentioned having a sample and liking it but the split I was hoping to participate in went nowhere even after a 2 year wait).
Hi hajusuuri – I would be up for a split on Limette 37 if you decide to do it at some point. I always seem to miss the Splitmeet.
Also, for yucks, look up @OverheardLaLabo on Insta. I have an odd sense of humor and find it amusing; YMMV.
Oh, thanks for sharing that Instagram account, it’s great!! Hah!
That’s a fun and funny account! I doubt I’ll be splitting Limette 37 but maybe I’ll check back with the Basenotes splitter first and see if she finally has Limette.
I think I’m more of a Beta city kinda guy; a little grungy and rough around the edges. ?
😉
I was momentarily interested when l saw they were selling samples of the city exclusives. But they’re $12 each! Lost interest immediately. The regular line is $6 per sample.
I will refrain from grumping about the things that annoy me in the press release: Alpha city, Citron bohème, “exclusive”
However I am interested by the fragrance. The first one from me Labo that has me going: “huh, what r u like?” Don’t have much time for Le Labo otherwise (fairly or unfairly).
My sample came in this week. It reminds me of my grandmother.
Just received my sample. It reminds me of … something. Can’t put my finger on what yet. I find that a lot of Le Labo’s output smells very similar — or maybe I tend to like too narrow a range of things? — but I do like Limette 37, as it happens. I’ve only ever had samples, but it seems fresh and charming to me; lighthearted in way I find unlike the often self-regarding “serious artistry” underlying so much of the brand’s marketing. Is it a lifelike sketch of lime blossoms? Possibly; not certain. (Also, maybe Le Labo doesn’t want us to pronounce its products’ name according to French rules: “Limette 37” makes a rather goofy rhyme, if you ask me.)
I put this on for the first time about an hour ago, and from first application to mid dry down, it reminds me of a less aquatic Light Blue.
