Serge Lutens Fils de Joie ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 7 August 2020 18 Comments

French niche house Serge Lutens will launch Fils de Joie, a new fragrance inspired by a night blooming flower.*

The laugh of the disillusioned is what makes fils de joie, son of joy, burst into laughter without reason. As a child and in the shadows, he learned of their intoxications, their tears and their illusions. Today, he brings these to light through the glorious scent of night-blooming jasmine.

Additional notes include ylang ylang and musk.

Serge Lutens Fils de Joie will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum. Look for it in September.

(via sergelutens, additional information via ausliebezumduft.de)

*Reported as Mesk-ellil, which is probably possibly Cestrum nocturnum (night blooming jasmine) or a relative.

With the same dark juice as La Fille en Berlin (or however it is spelled…). Very interesting to me. Unfortunately the rose came out at the same time as Mohur, and I think it got overshadowed. I will look forward to smelling this jasmine one. I hope they didn’t sneak tobacco in to make it more louche…

Yes, and I don’t really like my perfume to be that color!

We can drown together. He hasn’t done many jasmines and maybe this one will be the cats pajamas. I hope so.

Well, give the copy writer credit for new exploration. Most fragrance seek to create illusions, or to bring back happy memories. Some fragrances are designed to create illusions, that a matron is a reckless wild nymph, that the wearer is the deboinair sort who hangs out in a tuxedo, that the air after a rain smell of violets, rather than mud etc.

This fragrance seeks to capture disillusion, and suggests that this is a happy state. Hmm.

Serge’s copy is always pretty weird, IMO. That said, I’d like to smell this one.

Me too, as if that’s not obvious. ????
I have only 2 SL’s: A la Nuit and De Profundis.
I arrived late to the party and many had been already reformulated, etc. by that time. Sadly I missed out.
I can’t imagine a mostly jasmine and musk (ylang goes a into the jasmine column) that wouldn’t be amazing, but that color, hmm.

That description is utterly incoherent. I used to teach logic and I say this with certainty. QED!

I think the name is a joke, as well: isn’t a “fille de joie” slang for a sex worker?
