Serge Lutens La Fille Tour de Fer ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 9 February 2024 20 Comments

French niche house Serge Lutens has introduced La Fille Tour de Fer (Iron Tower Girl), a new rose fragrance.

***

[Machine translation: With her, contrary to what the song says: Paris will never be Paris again! In a gust of wind, she sweeps away with an about-face, the outdated image of the praline woman, with a corseted silhouette of whalebones, cluttered with the Eiffel Tower and all the bazaar! High in color, high in fashion, it never stops reinventing itself. Disagreeing with everything, including herself, at every moment, she takes the plunge. With her, it's sure, it's hard... I'm fed up! And you ?]

***

Update: the "official" Serge Lutens text in English: "No matter what the famous song says, with her, Paris will never just be Paris! In one fell swoop, she overturns the outdated image of the sweet, corseted Parisian belle, with her Eiffel Tower and other such clichés! Hot colors and Hot couture, she’s a master of reinvention. Always a rebel against everything, including herself, she forges ahead without fear. Be careful with her, she's a tough one… To be honest, she tires me out! What about you?"

The notes feature pink pepper, Bulgarian and Turkish rose, and iris.

Serge Lutens La Fille Tour de Fer is available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum. (Update: $185 / $270)

“The outdated image of the praline woman?” You can’t make this stuff up! Oh, wait, somebody did.

For a minute I thought he was alluding to women who were wearing candy-ish perfumes, but there’s probably some French idiom I am not familiar with, who knows.

I immediately thought of the praline women in 1800s New Orleans, in the French Quarter. Explains the whalebone corsets. But it’s jarring to follow that image with the Eiffel Tower! Then again, I think that’s the point but the SL copy is always enigmatic.

The word praline may be missing the accent on the last e – é; I did find an entry translating as “sugared” (or maybe sugary?) so essentially the same meaning as a woman wearing candy ish perfumes! It’s listed as an adjective but seems to be used like a noun.

“In the end, whether nougatine or praliné, these sweets end up enrobed in chocolate”

I love it. A return to form!

Fils de Joie, particularly, was so lovely of the recent ones. I didn’t love the newest, Ecrin Fumee but I think it was well-done.

Hopefully as good as Fille de Berlin.

I haven’t been as excited about SL’s new releases as I used to be, but they still pique my interest in the ocean of new releases that no-one could possibly keep up with.
I do like Écrin de Fumée and a couple of other recent ones, so I’m keen to try this.

He already has three roses (all excellent) and I’m wondering if he has anything left to say on the subject, but I’ll still try it. I liked Écrin de Fumée enough to buy it, and three of the five room sprays swept me off my feet, so he’s clearly on a roll.

I very much enjoy some of the recent releases. It is odd that they pop up very soon at the discounters. I am looking forward to trying this.

That purple coloring does not remind me of rose. Just saying.

      It’s a little incongruous isn’t it

Reading these comments have fired me up to try some of the newer Lutens releases. I’d kind of given up. Wish he’d do a coffret of the recent ones.
