Happy Playlist Friday! Our community project for today: name a favorite song, and wear a perfume that fits the song. (We did this project twice in 2017.)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
It wasn't my original plan — which may or may not have involved Bob Dylan — but I decided I need something happy today, so: Stevie Wonder Don't You Worry 'bout a Thing, and I'm pairing it with the perfect no-worries, lazy-summer-day fragrance, Hermès Brin de Réglisse.
Reminder: 8/14 is Creamsicle Day! Wear a creamsicle fragrance if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Although I wish the weather was cooler, I opted for Avignon as a tribute to one of my favorites – Morrissey. He reportedly is a fan and wears it on stage.
Too many favorite songs by Morrissey and The Smiths, but I will go with Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now.
Perfect! One of our reference songs when we’re trying out new audio equipment is ‘How soon is now.’ Really gives components a workout.
love this song. love the smiths.
Ooooo, so perfect! I am a huge smiths fan (did I mention huge?) and still listen to them almost daily. My daughter once asked me if I ever got sick of listening to them. Nope.
I love Avignon, and Morrissey! You smell fantastic!
Nice pick, Robin. A no-worries song indeed!
Scent: Le Labo Baie Rose 26 Chicago
Song: Abba Summer Night City https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d5dPYHi17k
According to Le Labo’s website, the scent was inspired by jazz music, but I think this Abba song has the right vibe. “Either way, the uplifting effect of the music seems to carry you away; the same way the music of the spices (aldehyde and musk playing along with the pink pepper) brings your spirit away.” – quote from the website.
https://www.lelabofragrances.com/baie-rose-26-132.html?size=100ml
An Abba song I did not know!
I think this song is underrated.
I didn’t know it either! I was surprised 🙂
I’m in Queen. Queen Latifah to you. I’m making a musical faux pas by pairing it with this:
https://youtu.be/etviGf1uWlg
Just like Robin, I’m looking for a little happy today too! Groovy! ?
That is one acid trip of hilariousness. And yes, I just made up a word.
Thanks for posting this!
I’m pretty sure I own this album on tape somewhere.
When I saw “acid trip of hillariousness,” I assumed it would be one of the “songs” from this album (which I also own).
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=V6ZOIIp2wEo
Deva, this seems like the perfect choice!
An absolute classic. Love it.
I’ve always loved that song! I needed that pick me up today, thanks for posting.?
I knew Lady Kier when she was Karen Kirby! She and I were in the same high school class. Graduated in 1981 from Kempsville High School. She was a bit shy but always kind and very beautiful.
Excellent. The YouTube comments are also entertaining.
Love that song, and have heard it on terrestrial radio this week too!
Love the playlist project. Hauled out my tiny travel-sized bottle of CSP’s Tiare from the 1990’s. Whoa, talk about being transported to the tropics, and appropriate musical accompaniment:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiDOkRJ1w20
Such a fun song. Makes me want a drink with a little umbrella.
Perfumista’s anthem for a blind buy:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyU7BbQSm98
Ha! Excellent pairing!
Excellent! LOL
Awesome! ?
Perfect! ?
Clever, love Tina.
🙂
Witty!
Not participating in the cp.
Wearing my last drops of HG Vivacious on this cool, rainy day. This is the first time that I finish a large decant in a matter of weeks. Love it, enjoyed it and definitely full bottle worthy.
On my second cup of coffee and back to my home/work desk.
Happy Friday everyone! ?
You smell good for sure!
Thank you, Hajusuuri! ?
Agree, definitely full bottle worthy.
It is on top of my “to buy” list now. Hopefully soon!
Vivacious swoon 🙂
Absolutely! ?
Happy Friday!
Thank you, Lillyjo! ?
You smell good!
Thank you!
Vivacious is a beauty!
It is! ?
“Freedom of choice
Is what you got
Freedom of choice”
?

Lol! I haven’t seen this is forty years!
Yay! I am participating in the CP! Thank you for saving me! ?
Musical accompaniment for the ambient perfume they release in hotel lobbies:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCDIYvFmgW8
Any excuse to post this one. Ok, I’ll stop for the time being 🙂
I’ve loved that video and Walken for a while now. It’s like watching someone transition from psychomotor retardation to mania…!
Love this!
I LOVE Christopher Walken, and this video!
Love it!
?
They should play this in all hotel lobbies.
Oh yes. That made my day!
Ahhh! Love this!
perfume is our weapon of choice 🙂
Thank you.
I saw that video for the first time a while ago when somebody posted a link to it here, on NST. And I enjoyed watching it again today. Thanks!
If I had had more coffee before picking my perfume, maybe I could have come up with a good song pairing, but instead I grabbed Vanille Galante and went for it.
Friday is here!
But you do smell good!
I’m not doing the CP either. I pulled some easy to wear fragrances from my stash of minis. I ended up spraying (lightly) Eau de Cartier Concentree. I love the peppery edge this has. No pepper in it, so it may be the coriander.
Or there is pepper in it, right?
I’m passing on the cp today as well, for no good reason. I raided the sample basket and am in Spicebomb Nightvision. There goes my perfumista cred! No one likes this on Fragrantica, but I like it.
Walked this morning with the Wild One, and saw a guy tootling around on a golf cart with a tall boy in his hand and a SEG on his face. Starting the weekend party early, I guess. ? ?
LOL! I saw a video clip of a motorcycle with a bear in a sidecar just casually motoring along a busy roadway.
Awesome! I think a lot of people are saying, “screw it – I’m going to figure out some way to have fun.”
That just reminds me of John Irving’s Hotel New Hampshire, love this book
I’ve jotted that down on my reading list. Thanks tannina!
You seriously never read it??? I think it’s his best work, followed by The world according to Garp…
Night vision has a cool bottle. I’m going to come back later with a song for it.
I’m thinking hair band…
I’m going with this
https://youtu.be/X2LTL8KgKv8
?
LOL, that is perfect, lillyjo! Thanks!
I liked one of the comments there:
1980’s: people wear sunglasses at night.
2020: people wear face mask at night.
Lol, maybe he was still partying from the night before.??
These days, who knows? ?
What’s an SEG? Inquiring minds want to know…
S**t eating grin.
Oh!
Thanks for asking, OF. I didn’t know either.
It may be a family saying, sorry!
I went literal and am wearing Donna Karan (the original renamed Signature for the reissue) which has a band of gold on the bottle to go with Freda Payne’s Band of Gold.
LOVE that song, have it in the same playlist that has the Stevie Wonder.
The scent is vintage Lancôme Magie edc, I think from the sixties: in truth sort of a knockoff of Chanel No. 5, aldehydes and a mass of amorphous roses and jasmine, but darker and thicker, and very beautiful. The top is going a bit wonky but it *is* over fifty years old, and things have a way of turning unpredictable as they age, as we all know.
The song is Magic by Ben Folds, performed a cappella by the University of Chicago group Voices In Your Head (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_zLOnDnFpw). It is *painfully* beautiful, a tribute to someone so demolished by the process of dying that death comes as a relief. In truth there’s no connection except the name, but you really should listen to this song.
You smell glorious- I can only imagine how much so!
And that song will need to wait for an appropriately rainy day for me!
Me too. The music. Intrigued by cautious.
by = but !!
You smell elegant, love Magie, I have the collection version, and a vintage edt. I wear it much more often than Magie Noire.
The music is just beautiful! Thank you so much, Pyramus. And I think roses and jasmine – on the darker, thicker side – are a perfect accompaniment to its mood.
Pairing Prada Infusion de Mandarine with Corinne Bailey Rae “Put your records on”
Great pairing! That song always makes me want to dance.
Thank you.
To me this song has a relaxed summer vibe for sure.
That’s a great album – so fun.
Thank you
Well done!
I’m glad you approve
😀 perfect!
No…Bob…Dylan….Robin?
So Bond Andy Warhol Lex Avenue for The Cult “Edie”
And all the youthquakers.
Love The Cult! Great pick!
Another fan here!
Well don’t forget I did a week of Bob Dylan leading up to his birthday last year! Everyone here is lucky I didn’t do it again this year 😉
https://nstperfume.com/2019/05/24/friday-scent-of-the-day-5-24/
Never can have enough. You can do once a quarter and I am in!
Annick Goutal Mandragore Pourpre — Time of The Season by The Zombies, because of its cool, forest, “spooky” vibe. At least I always get this when I hear this song, and MP seems to match it with its earthiness.
We saw them the last two tours thru Boston, and that song still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. They were great.
Great song!
All in on the CP…I’ve enjoyed so many of the songs!
After shower, lotion that included drops of Plumeria essential oil. Then Aloha Tiaré Layered with OJ Frangipani.
My song is Lei Hali’a by Keali’i Reichel. I first heard this on a lovely evening in Hawai’i with a friend from there. She lived up in Nu’uanu above Honolulu. I kid you not, she lived in a house that had a maintained jungle as backyard, complete with a natural waterfall spilling out of the mountain. We swam in the pool beneath the waterfall before going to dinner. She literally lived in paradise. Granted, it rained every afternoon. But still…next to the waterfall was tons of white ginger, which has a truly heavenly scent.
I find Hawai’ian music lovely, maybe because it is such a beautiful language.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjLR1NmbF7Q
Oh LizzieB, I thoroughly enjoyed that visual, thanks!
Oh my, as I was surfing, I found this version of a beautiful bride dancing hula to the song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=No7jp9vAfA8
Gorgeous!
Lovely!
I love Keali’i Reichel, great choice!
Lovely.
Lovely music and beautiful visual – I would love to swim in a pool beneath a waterfall! Thank you for that brief escape to paradise. And condolences – and a hug – on the recent loss of your beloved kitty.
I’ve wanted to go to Hawaii since I was 6 years old. Someday!
Hi everyone, My SOTD and CP is Coco by Chanel, corresponding song is “Stormy weather” by Harold Arlen and one of my favorite video ads from Chanel starring a fluffy cat and Vanessa Paradise.
https://youtu.be/7VZvI0_Qj6U
I’m headed out to UCSF for my ERCP procedure, bag packed and a fresh batch of sugar toffee cookies and granola nut bars for my nurses. Everyone have a lovely weekend! 😀
Good luck with your procedure, ST! That’s smart of you to bring treats for your nurses. I know they will appreciate them. ❤️
Thanks! And if anyone ever wants my recipes, feel free to ask!
Granola Bar recipe below:
*Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 13 x 9 lasaga pan with lightly greased parchment paper.
Ingredients:
3 cups of old fashioned oats (I use gluten free)
1 cup mixed nuts, chopped
½ cup hulled pumpkin seeds
½ cup slivered almonds
1 cup dried cranberries
½ teaspoon of cinnamon
1, 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk
*Mix the oats, pumpkin seeds, almonds, mixed nuts, cranberries and condensed milk together in a bowl; spread into the prepared pan, evenly pressing into the corners and out to the sides.
*Bake in the preheated oven until the edges are golden brown, 20-25 minutes, using slightly less time for chewier bars and slightly more time for crunchier bars.
*Allow the bars to cool for 10 minutes in the pan before using the parchment paper to lift them from the pan.
Good luck with the procedure,ST!
Thank you for the recipe. That would be my baking project for the weekend since I have all the ingredients at home!
Great scent and song!
Best wishes for your procedure!
Good luck with your procedure! Nurses love home baked goodies.?
Yummy recipes, thank you. Hope you’ll have an easy time at the hospital.
Good luck with your procedure, and how very kind of you to bring treats for the nurses.
Oh golly. Wishing you very good vibes and a smooth ride for your procedure. The blue skies we have today bode well, I think!
More good luck to you, SmokeyToes!
Wishing you good luck!
???!
SOTD = Chanel 31 Rue Cambon EDT
I will pair this with a made up song a la 99 Bottles of ? on the Wall. Same tune but replace lyrics with:
31 bottles of perfume on the wall, 31 bottles of perfume.
Take one down and pass it around, 30 bottles of perfume on the wall.
etc…
The picture’s gotta wait because I am waiting for my car to be serviced. I am sitting in the showroom part where all the cars that used to be there were taken out and there are socially-distanced sales and sitting areas. Various levels of compliance re: mask but the ceiling is somewhat on the high side and the air circulation seems good ??♀️. The service guy just came around and mentioned a few other things to do. I don’t know who it was that mentioned a 5 year old car with 32,000 miles; mine is almost 8 years old with 22,000 miles – I don’t get around much ?
Today is also my mom’s one year death anniversary. Time flew by pretty quickly! She’s in a better place and I’m glad (in a very respectful way) that she is not around to witness COVID. I will stop by the cemetery later today.
Love your perfume song ?
Anniversaries of death are a time to ponder. I know what you mean about being glad that your mother isn’t here experiencing the time of coronavirus. I feel the same about my dad and completely forgot his 3rd anniversary this year, it was in June.
Thank you ringthing. Anniversaries are definitely a time for reflection. I talk to one of my sisters a few times a week and we do reminisce.
I am also glad my father is not around for the same reason. It is very difficult for my mom to deal with the whole Covid situation, especially when she must go out.
Sending you virtual hugs ?
Yes, for my mom too the Covid situation is very difficult, not if she goes out but because she is so shut in. The people at the facility are very well cared for but one thing everyone most misses is that the in-house beauty salon is closed, by order of the health department. Everyone has long hair, roots growing out, and is in need of manicures and pedicures. Also she can’t understand much about the virus but wants to know more. I have just done some research and found a couple of illustrated children’s books that I’ve ordered for her.
Very difficult times, especially because we have to deal not only with our own Covid fears, but we also have to deal with our parents fears and be very supportive for them. Let’s hope for better times to arrive soon!
Thanks pfl67. It is a very tough time for many people and I think the toughest for our most vulnerable. Hugs back to you and your mom.
sending some love your way as you remember your mom….I agree, while I miss my mom everyday, I am also glad she is not here to deal with the current craziness.
I don’t need to say it, but you always smell great!!
Thank you jepster. Crazy times indeed.
My car is 12 years old and has about 32000 miles on it. Glad to see I’m not the only one!
I’m sorry to hear about your mom. I know that feeling all too well. Mine has been gone for a long time, and I’d give anything to have her back, but to be honest I think the direction the world has gone would have broken her heart. I wish she was still here, but I think things would be extremely difficult for her both mentally and physically.
Low mileage car twins!
Thanks caffeinequeen. Mom was 83 when she passed and we all thought she had more time but it was not to be.
Hugs in memory of your mom.
Thank you cazaubon.
so glad my parents not here for this. Wishing you sweet memories.
Thank you apsara. My mom thought nothing of asking people she met (or even the occasional service people) which party they’re registered for.
I think your “song” is just hilarious! I’m sorry this is a sad anniversary for you.
Thanks calypso. I had no song and decided to make one up ?.
Sending good thoughts your way on this one year anniversary.
Thanks for the good thoughts mtg!
Great idea for the song!
Sending lot’s of love your way today ❤
Thank you lillyjo. I was originally going ask the universe to pair it up with something but I had fun just thinking of it.
Sending a hug your way as you remember your mom today. Hope that warm memories comfort your heart.
Thank you Laila.
Thinking of you and sending hugs, love the perfume bottles song.
Thank you Aurora.
hi hajusuuri, it’s hard to believe a year has gone by so quickly. Hugs to you today, I agree with you on how hard it might have been for your mom in these strange covid days. It’s so hard on everyone, life feels so complicated, and the isolation is tough.
yesterday you asked about school — my district is starting with all distance learning, expecting to go to a hybrid of distance/in-person learning in the future, but when that future will arrive is anyone’s guess.
I teach a few private music students – lessons are outdoors – either in my backyard or the student’s backyard – with masks, hand cleaning, surface cleaning, and as much distancing as possible. My students are young beginners so zoom lessons aren’t very effective.
please, fragrance friends, no debate intended or needed here, political or otherwise 😉
Thank you tiffanie. Your students are very fortunate to have you!
very kind, hajusuuri! it’s a small thing, but I feel like it is important to give something as “normal” as music lessons to the kids who truly want them.
Glad you are able to go to her grave and mark the day.
Thank you Robin. I was going to go right after the car was serviced but the entrance is within 10 feet of a heavy relatively high speed merge and I chickened out of trying to do it. I ended up going in the afternoon taking a different route where I did not have to merge to satisfy my inner ?.
Dat song! ??
Ha! Thanks Lucas.
So sorry. Sending hugs and thinking of you.
Thank you Petunia.
Wow, time flies. Hugs on this sad anniversary.
It sure does. Thanks jalapeño.
Thanks everyone. If I haven’t said so previously, this is the most supportive forum ever!
The cemetery was very peaceful and I had some quiet time alone.
On the car stuff, I should have flinched as normally an oil change would have cost under $100 but today’s was a little over $700 ?. I pretty much let them do what they can today, including replacing brake pads. I’m glad they found it because I did notice a groaning sound every time I backed out of my parking space but thought perhaps it was due to lack of use. The service manager said it could have lasted until the next oil change but bad idea because: 1) winter and 2) I can’t be trusted to bring the car in for service timely.
And finally, here’s a pic of my SOTD:
https://www.instagram.com/p/CDmq2BJBgfN/?igshid=srm7b7pt1ftt
I’m wearing Commes des Garcons Ouarzazate today, paired with the song Sheik by ZZ Top, from the Tres Hombres album.
And Rock the Casbah!!
Ooh good one!
My husband owns that one, which I “borrow” with some frequency. It is lovely!
Nice! ??
Well Robin, apparently your happy song makes me cry. ? Not reacting to anything in particular, just pent up stress.
The most recent album I’ve purchased (on CD, because I’m low-tech) was John Prine’s Tree of Forgiveness. I bought it for myself and sent a copy to my dad at the same time. There’s an honesty about aging there that I find deeply endearing. Here’s his performance on NPR, which is likely where I heard him and decided to buy the album.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sOg7mAkrKJw
I don’t own it, but Patchouli Patch would be a good pairing. Or maybe just some sandalwood essential oil. Prine joined the ancestors due to complications related to COVID this year.
Guess I’m kinda a bummer in this post today! Sorry.
Not a bummer. Just honest. My husband is a huge fan of Prine and was very sad over his loss. Thanks for that.
Love Prine. Still mourning his departure as well.
Sorry about your pent up stress, but glad to see a John Prine sighting here today. I thought about doing a John Prine / Bonnie Raitt medley this week, so I could get in the duet they did on Angel From Montgomery. And for some reason I have been listening to Sam Stone a lot lately.
I also heard him on NPR — and also on some other podcast that I can’t think of right now — so thanks for the reminder about that album.
Feel better!
Better to let some of the pent-up stress out here than keeping it under wraps!
I love the song “Candy Pop in Love” by TommyFebruary6, and was going to pair it with Prada Candy, but I couldn’t find my sample vial! So instead I went with Nobile 1942 Bon Bon Fraise, which smells, appropriately, like strawberry hard candies .
Wow — that calls for something more energetic than Prada Candy! I can’t think of what right now. Strawberry hard candies sounds like a better fit.
Happy Friday! I’m in the ever wonderful Chergui. About to ignore work for an hour and get my 4 mile walk in. I refuse to let all the bad news get me down and I will appreciate this glorious day.
My song pairing doesn’t really go with Chergui, just my feeling today: Jimmy Cliff’s You can get it if you really want. https://youtu.be/18EAqHx2lMk
Love your scent today–may it bring you special joy and peace!
Love it!? Enjoy your walk!
Good walking song, too!
Zoologist T-Rex paired with an absurd song that has long given me joy, Blue Oyster Cult’s Go Go Godzilla:
https://youtu.be/muUZjovOFRg
Happy Friday everyone!
Lol – love it!
Ha!?
Oh that’s perfect!
Awesome!!! ?
Hey Robin, great choice…Stevie really is a Wonder! I have been wearing Fille de Berlin most of this week and thinking about Kurt Weill music sung by Lotte Lenya (a real Fille de Berlin)–maybe “Mack the Knife”, or “Pirate Jenny”, or a personal favorite “Ain’t It Awful The Heat”….
Have a great weekend everybody!
In case you have not heard the Lyle Lovett version:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lEKcJ52xF8
Your choice is more traditional of course 🙂
One of my favorite songs ever is Depeche Mode In Your Room.
I didn’t know what smell fits better from the bottles I have, but I came across a sample of Monsieur by Frederic Malle. Spot on!
Oh that is such a sexy song! I’ve got a big soft spot for anything Depeche Mode, though. . .
Me toooooo! DM is my favorite band. Listening them since I was 8.
Depeche Mode was a contender for song of the day today…
In honor of Carla Bruno’s new single https://youtu.be/g-qvPsVxEgI I’m wearing a relaxed French classic, Hermes Caleche Fleur de Mediterranee and wishing I was in the Mediterranean!
Cool, I love Carla Bruni’s music! Thanks for posting this.
niiiiiiice! 😀
SOTD was Ninfeo Mio, ver, fitting for a hot summer day. The first music my funny mind went to was an album from. Siouxie’s side project The Creatures with a Gothic jungle theme called Feast.
Now wearing What I did on my holidays with some mint body lotion after shower
I’m in Olivine Atelier’s Gigi perfume oil and pairing it with Madonna’s La Isla Bonita for a couple of reasons. First, she is said to be fan of this one and second, it smells like something I would wear on a beautiful island. No island, but it is beautiful again today.??
I went through the coffee drive through this morning and the woman in front of me suddenly jumped the curb and drove into some landscaping as she got close to the window. I could see she was older and had handicapped plates and I was worried she was having some sort of medical emergency. Turns out she was reaching for her wallet and accidentally pressed the accelerator. Whew! Crisis averted.
Whew!
Scary! I’m glad she was ok.
Wow. Seeing that would freak me out for sure. Glad to hear that everyone is OK.
A gorgeous cool sunny morning! Had a wonderful yoga practice and starting in on some baking now. Wearing MM Romanza and humming Peace Train that someone posted yesterday. Happy Friday!
Humming Peace Train sounds very healthy just now…
I’m wearing Chypre Mousse this morning for a sunny day in the 80’s. Deva calls it Eau de Crypt so I’m pairing it with Rusty Truck’s Cold Ground.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RrIgQ3LA8M
Baking a few cookies because I didn’t get to it the other day, and I made a really good chickpea and potato curry last night that will feed me for the whole weekend.
Scent twins today!
I’m in Memo Italian Leather, channeling Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief. I don’t know if she and Cary Grant raced along a winding cliffside road in an open-top, leather-upholstered sports car in that movie, but they SHOULD have. 🙂
Don’t know if you’ve ever heard this song but I love it: Lovage’s “To Catch a Thief”
https://youtu.be/xfu2Gp-PrTQ
Have never come across Lovage before – very camp, and tres French! A film with that soundtrack would need a different leading lady than Grace Kelly though – her vibe was much too innocent. Kim Novak perhaps, or Lady Gaga.
In a little spritz of Shalimar Eau Légère, which I now have after a long journey. Goodness, this is pretty, and I may have found the Shalimar I can wear.
I got my Zoologist package yesterday and Victor’s nice note. Among other samples I got the new Bat and am doing a side-by-side comparison today. The old Bat is definitely more “dirty” and to my nose it’s also sweeter with that slightly overripe banana note that makes it a more interesting and even fascinating scent. New Bat may be nice but is more subtle and not as much presence. The verdict is still out on it. I tried Bee last night and found it interesting but that honey note is just one I have trouble with in perfumes or lotions. My song pairing today is quite silly and may give you an ear worm (sorry): https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=batman+song&pc=cosp&ptag=G6C1N381A610E45A574&conlogo=CT3210127&ru=%2fsearch%3fq%3dbatman%2520song%26pc%3dcosp%26ptag%3dG6C1N381A610E45A574%26form%3dCONBNT%26conlogo%3dCT3210127&view=detail&mmscn=vwrc&mid=B3F56FED23EF07930824B3F56FED23EF07930824&FORM=WRVORC.
Robin, I met Stevie Wonder once! We had a lot of blind students at Michigan State because Michigan School for the Blind is nearby in Lansing. I had a blind friend Penny who knew Stevie at the School. He was friends with some other kids in our dorm and came one time for a big birthday bash and played piano, sang, etc. He is VERY tall! He sang “My Cherie Amour…” which was the hit song at the time so you know how long ago that was.
Cool story about Stevie! Didn’t realize he was so tall.
Oh MAN is that a cool story!
Lucky you. What an immense body of work he has built up. He is The GOAT. (a shared title with Prince though imho)
Uh oh, that definitely is UP THERE as far as earworms go! ?
Couldn’t think of anything that would fit with the CP. On my way to Lehman’s Hardware to browse and to get out of the house. Currently in Cormandel EDP.
SOTD is Azemour, which always feels a bit melancholy – the end of summer, when the heat has made everything wilt. I was going to pick Buffalo Tom’s ‘Summer’ but decided to go more pop and upbeat with The La’s, and their perfect pop song, There She Goes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eu2iv-vMKT8
Great flashback to the 1990’s with that song.
Such a perfect song.
Hi all and Happy Friday!
I’m wearing Bombay Bling and pairing it with Mungo Jerry’s In the Summertime.
I have enjoyed reading all of your perfume and music matches this week. This perfume loving bunch has exquisite musical taste ?
Great combo! Mungo Jerry is such happy music.
Perfume–The Bug from Gorilla Perfumes/Lush
Song–Every Breath You Take by The Police
Just read Paladin’s Grace which is a fluffy fun fantasy novel that has a perfumer as a main character so I almost wore Bois d Iles because she talks at various points about sandalwood and gingerbread but couldn’t think of a song to go with
Ooooooh! Going straight onto my reading list!
A different version of Stairway to Heaven, I adore the finale with the choir and the aging band’s reactions and obvious delight.
I pair it with Jean Patou Que Sais-je? (What do I know?).
https://youtu.be/LFxOaDeJmXk
Oohh good one! I’m going to watch this in full after work.
I discovered this version recently too, enjoy it this evening Lillyjo!
Watched and enjoyed!
I’ve spent my whole life trying to get Ann Wilson’s hair.
I think at one point in the 1980’s, everyone wanted Ann Wilson’s hair…
I’ve watched this several times over the last few months. It never gets old!
It is really uplifting.
That made my day!
I am wearing Amouage Memoir Woman and I am pairing it with Witchy Woman by the Eagles, because it smells very potion-like to me.
Ooh, perfect! It’s such a beautiful scent.
SOTD: a sample of Via Camerelle that I got with my delivery of CN from Beauty Habit. It’s gorgeous, a citrusy/musk powder, lots of musk and powder, but effervescent. I can see why they sent this sample – it’s a sister to Cap Neroli.
Song: Lovely Day by Bill Withers (the Disco Edit) – perfect for a beautiful morning after a rainy summer day here in Portland:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-7f05hBNfs
The opening to that song always makes me wanna groove out!
I’m wearing Bois de Paradis, and belatedly pairing it with anything sung by Edith Piaf, since this perfume has always struck me as being decidedly French in feel.
Sampling Dame Bergamot, Jasmine & Labdanum which isn’t a favorite I’ve decided…may add something w/ vanilla to the mix in a bit.
Been listening to Nina Simone all week w/ good results. ??
Since the catastrophe in Lebanon, I’ve had the first few lines of Dolores Keane’s “The Island” whirring in my brain. So the perfume I chose is sort of connected to both–sentiments and memories about Ireland and about Beirut “Paris of the Middle East”–Memoires de Mustique by Eight & Bob.

PS Thanks everyone for your well wishes for my son yesterday. He had a little issue with the intubation and there was blood for a while. But he was chipper, and quickly grew bored with my fussing—a good sign! His surgical sites are not bothering him much at all. And he is able to get around on his own completely.
Glad to hear it, A. I hope you and yours have a relaxing weekend. ?
Good news!
Good
News.
Its also National Peach Day! so eat one or listen to the Allman Brothers! Or both!
National Peach Day! Now that is something to celebrate. I am planning to BBQ peaches for dessert tomorrow, and serve them with vanilla ice cream, and then on Sunday my reading group is going to meet in person, sitting at a distance from one another and masked as much as possible, for paella and sangria. I am in charge of the sangria, which shall be my secret peach sangria recipe!
Both of your peach ideas sound delicious! I tell myself I’ll make peach pie or a cobbler then we end up eating the peaches over the kitchen sink with juice everywhere 🙂
National Peach Day, huh? Here’s a song to mark the occasion, then:

No song or scent but wanted to say thank you for all of your thoughtful comments yesterday.
Just read yesterday’s post and sending you a comforting hug on your loss. I’m so sorry.
My fragrance is Isabey Gardinia, for Don’t Do Anything Till You Hear From Me, which I had thought was a Fats Waller tune, but according to the internet was composed by Duke Ellington with words by Bob Russell.
I am wearing it for Billie Holiday, the greatest singer of them all and her version of this song. She was famous for wearing Gardenia’s, but the scent also has a lively jazz feel.
Most people associate Holiday with slow and sad songs, but she sang a lot of up tempo clever numbers, which is certainly true of her recording of this song.
Busy day today! I’m wearing vintage Poison on my knees and Tendre Poison on my wrists. Matching song is Mary Hopkin “Those were the days”

One of my mother’s favorite songs. The older I get the more I come to understand her.
Wonderful Lillyjo and a sweet memory of your mother. I feel the same way.
How I wish she was here so I could say “I get it now”
I posted a MH song the other day? Did you see it? It was the Journey of the Moon, for Kanuka. That album was a favorite of father’s when I was young.
my father’s. . . .MY, oish.
I didn’t. I will go back and listen tonight!

A favorite when I was little!
It’s beautiful OF, Thank you!
Never got to sniff Tendre Poison before it disappeared. It wasn’t around for very long, was it?
I think it was gone pretty quickly in my area. The bigger cities had it longer, I think. Same with Midnight Poison, I think it didn’t last a year here.
Midnight Poison was around for a couple of years where I am at. But you’re right, it wasn’t around for very long either. Shame on both accounts.
Had I read Robin’s intro before choosing my song and perfume, I would have probably chosen something happier and more uplifting. But since I’m already wearing it – Keiko Mecheri Mogador, and the song I paired it with – Where The Wild Roses Grow by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds with Kylie Minogue (https://youtu.be/rXA-9mWGCXk).
Wanted to share a bizarre delivery story. I live in SF Bay Area. Three weeks ago I ordered something from a store near Los Angeles (~365 miles from where I live). I paid for the FedEx delivery (the only option they had), and started watching the progress. In a couple of days it reached our local hub, so I expected to get it in the following day or two… Five days later I saw my package (still In Transit) traveled all the way to Mississippi (2K+ miles away), and then another 5 days back to the same hub. At this point I was curious if it would restart the same loop, but no, two weeks after the purchase, I finally got the package. I understand that it was a fluke, but it was interesting to follow my package trip half the way through the country before reaching me.
That IS strange! I wonder how that route happened to your package?
I’ve enjoyed reading about the different activities that have been keeping us sane during this difficult time – some of us walk, some bake, some lift weights, some read. For me, it has been yoga and music, and their inspiration has guided my choice for today’s cp.
In particular, it has been yoga classes and music live-streams, and although my enjoyment of them has been virtual these days, they’re grounded in real experience, as the virtual yoga instructor is one I’ve enjoyed ‘real’ classes with – back when life was ‘normal’ – and the music live-streams I watch are of local musicians I’ve seen umpteen times and who know me by name and whom I know as fantastic human beings as well as talented artists.
For today, I’ve chosen my favorite post-yoga musical composition, Respiro by Ian Maksin, and my corresponding scent is YR Neonatura Breath (called Soufflé in Europe). Its citrus top notes reflect the filtered sun streaming down into the cavern in the video; its soft floral mid notes are strengthened with a strong ginger note, which reminds me of the crystallized ginger and essential oils Joan always brings to our yoga classes; and I can feel the earth beneath my feet at the bottom of the cavern in Breath’s warm amber and benzoin base notes. The video was filmed at Starved Rock State Park, Illinois’ most visited state park, a favorite of mine I’ve hiked and camped often. Breath and Respiro together transport me to a place of peace and beauty and hope.
Wishing you all peace, beauty, and hope this weekend – take a few minutes, close your eyes for awhile and just breathe . . .

SotD = Breath of God
Paired with the B-52’s Roam because I’d like to visit the place that inspired Breath of God, and perfume is my favorite form of armchair travel. 🙂
Happy FriYAY, fragrance friends. You! smell! wonderful!
With this CP, and the previous music ones, I’ve realised that associations between music and perfume don’t come naturally to me. Perfume and colour, absolutely, to the extent that I don’t feel comfortable wearing some perfumes with some colours. I think of iris perfumes as blue and purple, and avoid them if I’m wearing orange or brown. Iris was the Greek goddess of the rainbow, so I really should broaden my sense of iris 🙂
I’ve also got the least musical abilities possible, so that might have something to do with 🙂
Off for a hair appointment this morning, and I’ll wear Omnia. I went through a bottle years ago, and finally acted on my vague intention to buy another. As far as I can tell, it still smells like the perfume I bought when it first came out in 2003.
Enjoy your hair appointment!
SOTD = Oriza L. Legrand Chypre Mousse EdP, from the decant stash and a wonderful NSTer.
The song to match:
“Now when the day goes to sleep and the full moon looks
The night is so black that the darkness cooks
Don’t you come creeping around – makin’ me do things I don’t want to”
“The Green Manalishi” by Peter Green. It was the last hit he wrote for Fleetwood Mac. Trippy, creepy psychedelia with the Fleetwood Mac version, while the Judas Priest cover is heavy, crunchy metal. I like both.
Good one jalapeno! I always prefer the Judas Priest version.. probably because I heard it first.
I came across both versions at roughly the same time, and wonder why they didn’t get more radio time.
I must check it out. Thanks!
Okay, Prince, Musicology is the tune.
Bana Banana is the scent. Happy Friday.

I wore Carthusia’s Fiori di Capri, an overflowing bouquet of floral notes. And one of my favorite songs is the Cowsills’ “The Rain, The Park and Other Things”, often known by part of its refrain “The Flower Girl.”
“Flowers in her hair,
Flowers everywhere!”
Seems fitting for a day when we’ve had multiple rainstorms! Have a good weekend, everyone!
Love that song – it’s so happy, yet melancholy, but in a happy way.
Fabulous choice.
??’ la la la I love the flower girl? She’s looks so fine….
We lost power again this afternoon after another storm, and they are saying we won’t have it back until tomorrow night. So I will be slow again! (Plus, much sulking!)
Dang it! Sorry Robin. Hopefully it will be back on soon.
Oh SPEW!! That double sucks.
That sucks. Stay safe (and sane)!
??but can’t help giggling at ‘sulking’, and I don’t blame you!
