It's Monday and International Chess Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
We are on day 3 of excessive heat warnings. I'm running late, and a bit groggy, and my computer is acting up: not a happy Monday combination! I'm in Thierry Mugler Cologne.
Reminder: on 7/24, wear a perfume by Zoologist, Xerjoff, Worth Paris or Yosh if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letters W, X, Y or Z.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Perfect for this weather today…
Non perfume related question, can anyone recommend a thermos for coffee that does not leak and keep things hot?
Any news on your Shalimar body cream?
Ciao Deva-
So it looks like it started out with UPS and now it in the hands of USPS. So they have accepted the package and there is no further up date beyond that..
Hopefully today or tomorrow there will be some movement.
How can they deprive me of my cream? Don’t they know who I am? HA!
In my experience, it can take a week for the post office to deliver after they get the handoff from UPS. I’m waiting for something myself and my guess is I won’t see it until later this week. It goes into this USPS black hole, since it doesn’t have their tracking #.
Ok, this makes me feel better, that this is normal and I shouldn’t start called macys to complain just yet.
LTSG
I use my hydro flask for cold and hot drinks. Can get on amazon.
Going to look it up..its a gift for a friend who hates that his container leaks…
dittoing the hydroflask recs.
That’s what I use, too. I love my travel mug hydroflask. Use it every day, since it keeps my coffee hot, even when I lolligag and take over an hour to drink it!
I don’t know if you could get them in America, but we have a couple of Stanley flasks. They do the job.
Yeti makes amazing stuff that keeps things hot or cold forever. No leaks.
I second the HydroFlask recommendation. Have been using it for years to keep beverages hot or cold, as the case may be. It comes in all kinds of fun colors and is widely available.
L2SM – you smell gorgeous! I love TdH, I steal a spritz or two from the hubby’s bottle when he’s not looking.
You should just take the bottle lol 😉
Oh yes! There are times when his bottle mysteriously disappears….
He has vintage bottles of RL’s Safari and Christian Dior’s Fahrenheit that I sneak spritzes from.
Both original bottles back from when they were first released. He teases me that he’s going to give them away. 😯
I use a Contigo. They have great insulation. Plus, the newer versions are easy to keep clean, and they’re comfortable to drink from.
2nding Contigo. My coffee stays steaming hot in those!
Ok..going to look that one up
My husband has a Zojirushi thermos that is incredible. If he doesn’t finish his coffee in the morning, it’s still perfectly hot when he gets home.
I just looked that one up and watched the videos. wow, I may want one for myself…
The lock is super effective too.
Zojirushi is the bomb!
I use a Contigo as well but only for cold drinks mainly because I don’t trust plastic and rubber to hold up well for hot beverages. That said, we’re I to be looking for a container suitable for hot and cold, I would try to find one with only stainless steel and glass parts with an opening that would not burn my lips. The container should also be wide enough to fit my hand to be able to wash it without a bottle brush.
If Yasmina sees this, she’ll probably go ? same thought process because nothing is ever what they seem ??
I’m right there with you hajusuuri ?
🙂
I’ve heard that Yeti makes excellent coolers and Thermoses, but they are ridiculously expensive. If you do decide to get one, be prepared to drop a load of ca$h for it.
I have a Yeti and a Hydroflask – husband appropriated Yeti and used it for coffee, and now I can’t use it for tea anymore. I think they do equally well with keeping things hot, but the Yeti is wider and the lid doesn’t close all the way, so you can’t put it upside down or shake it around (should you want to do that). But – cleaning it is easier, and I believe Yeti says dishwasher is ok, whereas Hydroflask says handwash. My main beef with the Yeti was that it does not fit into my cupholder in the car. However, I feel I have to be more careful in screwing the lid onto the Hydroflask (Yeti is more of a push-in lid?). Lastly, Yeti comes in all stainless, I believe, H. does not. Pricewise, about the same, and roughly $25-30.

After going back to Florida and rescuing 6 full bottles from my refrigerator, I realized I needed to find a larger perfume storage box…I’m not happy about this and may end up losing a couple full bottles of scents I don’t use that often.
Portland Peeps, I hope you in a quiet, safe part of the city. Scary times here in the US of A…
Apropos of nothing, since when did Applebee’s steal the Welcome Back Kotter theme song..? I have very mixed emotions about this!
I did not even know that Applebees had taken the Welcome Back Kotter theme song, but I should have known that someone would.
I loved that show (dating myself here…).
Wouldn’t it be fun to scent the characters of the Welcome Back Kotter crew?
Horseshack’s character would be a challenge…
Now you got me thinking! LOL.
It does make you think, no?? 😀
I did not no about the theme song being used! I don’t like it one bit!
Me either, until a recent Applebee’s commercial. Nothing is sacred anymore! ?
Thank you for your concern, Deva. The protests are sticking to a few small areas here in Portland. I think much of the media coverage is overstating the unrest, and I wonder at the inconsistencies in how protestors are being portrayed by different media sources. We live on a busy street that heads directly downtown, near where protesters often congregage before they head downtown. We have seen no violence, no out of control behavior, and feel very safe even when marchers are going past our property (which happens semi-regularly).
OTOH, I have heard from neighbors who have changed their after-dark walking choices for fear of increases in uncertainty caused by these actions by federal agents. News reports about federal agents picking people up off the street in unmarked vans is scary.
My focus of concern was the governmental actions against those peaceful protesters, as you mentioned. I don’t want to cross the NST guidelines for commenting, but unmarked vans, unidentified-government backed “police” action is my worry. I’m glad you’re feeling safe
and comfortable In your neighborhood. ✌?
The dynamic with the feds is really scary, and it’s inspiring more people to take to the streets again.
Everything else I think about writing probably breaks the comment rules. . . but I really do appreciate your compassion and support!
OK, please let’s end this piece of the thread, it is crossing the line!
I was going to comment about the Welcome Back Kotter theme song as well! I don’t think it fits. I would use it more for a diner.
First, you smell amazing – I love that perfume so very much. It is my Mom in a bottle?.
Secondly, I agree that tune is maddening, I keep thinking I am 20 again when the song plays. It is as if I just time traveled!
Slept without moving
Something really simple for back to work all the way upstairs in my office. Philosophy nude rose and lotion should do the trick.
Portland, yes, please everyone be careful.
?? For deep restorative sleep!
Indeed!
Jealous of your sleep
This week I’m doing Zoologist all week. I have an almost untouched 2017 discovery set. Unfortunately, I realized when I looked at it, the sprayers have seriously evaporated. So, today I started with Panda 2017, which I like.
I recent tried Civit and was smitten! Enjoy your discovery set??
Civet is really nice, chocolate Leather espresso to my nise
I only have a small dabber sample, so I don’t think I got the full effect. I like it enough to go hunting for a decant or travel size…Also sampled camel, but on me, it smells like a hamster cage. A clean hamster cage, but still, I’m not interested in smelling like that. ?
Camel smelling like Hamster? Hilarious!
I am joining you. I reached for Civet the other day because I miss it but it was not ‘CP’ or can I say jokingly ‘PC’. 🙂 so I put it back on the shelf.
Love the heat, hate the humidity, at least at the levels we’ve been having. But it’s summer!
SOTD: Vivacious
A fun, new activity my husband and I have been doing most days since WFH is having a quick game of chess mid-afternoon. Neither of us are any good but we’re pretty much the same level and it’s a nice break. I’ve become a much better looser over the years 🙂
My husband is an avid chess player, wants to teach me but I’ve told him with sheltering in place, peace in the home is a must….
Lol. Yep, I hear ya.
I wonder if he has any good books or websites he can recommend to improve one’s game?
floralgal, I’m happy to ask! If I remember, he learned from a friend.
Hi floralgal, Kevin doesn’t know about chess instruction books…. Thought you’d want to know!
You smell fab in Vivacious!
I recently taught my other half to play rummy 500, he has never been into cards but it something fun for us to do when the kids to go to bed.
My grandmother taught me how to play, and when I was young I would spend my summers with her in Florida and that’s what we would do in the afternoon when it was too hot to be outside.
She instilled in me also the love of books and reading, and when we didn’t feel like playing cards we would lounge and read in the afternoon. I have to say, I think when I look back on it, my grandmother gave me some books that were probably too mature for my age. Stuff that she had read and she would just tell me to help myself to whatever I wanted.
🙂 That’s a sweet story. I love that you and your other half are playing cards. I’d like to learn some card games too.
Remember when cards and board games were what families did after the dinner dishes were done? I miss those days. We played Clue a ton, my brother always tried to cheat, my dad could care less as long as he was able to watch the news at 10pm, and my mother was not a gracious winner. Family..!
My family played Risk a lot, especially up at our cabin. I also went through a period of playing Star Wars Monopoly with friends about 23 years ago.
Best, though, was playing Mystery Date on New Year’s Eve about 18 years ago. Crying with laughter at the cheesiness.
Oh, yeah! Forgot that one! It was my brother’s favorite because he could unleash his inner despot under the guise of competitiveness. ? Hence, the reason I didn’t like it and forgot about it.
I was terrible at Risk, by the way. I’d finally get bored and try to conquer Asia, which is a recipe for losing.
My brother and I played a lot of Careers and Monopoly!
Monopoly is a mainstay! Never heard of “careers” which is why I probably didn’t have one until I was in my mid to late 20’s! Off to google it..!
My brother and I used to have very competitive games of “Sorry!” We took far too much enjoyment out of sending each others piece back to the start.
Clue! Fun game and great memories.
If I had someone to play Carcassone with, I would probably have just played Carcassone and drank vermouth through the whole pandemic.
My sister tried to talk me into the ipad version but that is not the same.
Carcassone looks fascinating. I’m afraid it would devolve into a cutthroat situation pretty soon, however, since the hubs is seriously competitive!
My sister and I play what I call “girl rules”…try to win, but don’t gratuitously block the other person — or maybe another way to put it is try to do well but don’t try to make the other person do poorly. Competitive but nice about it. My husband is literally incapable of playing that way and also does not enjoy the game as much as I do.
L2SG – What a lovely memory!
Both of my grandmothers loved to read and play cards. On my father’s side, Nana’s first book that she gifted me was Beryl Markham’s, West with the Night.
I adore Rummy 500.
Nice! I have never been into chess but the family produced an Oregon State champion several times over and a national master who was on his way to be another type of master (or whatever next echelon is in the world of chess) until he was sidelined and couldn’t travel safely to tournaments for health reasons.
Amazing, hajusuuri! That’s quite an accomplishment. Wish I had one of those in the family!
I didn’t have much for last week’s CP and nothing at all for this week, but am trying out a sample from a new- to- me brand.
Pink Heart from Map of the Heart. Starts out quite sweet, but it has a nice dry down of tobacco and sandalwood. I’m looking at perfumes with Narcissus: was interested in MM Romanza and Pink Heart supposedly has narcissus absolute. Have a good week!
Would definitely recommend giving my SOTD a whirl if you’re looking for narcissus- it’s lovely! And this from a floralphobe. It’s delicate, but long lasting and luscious?
SSS Nostalgie has a great narcissus note at the top before it settles down into a heady, atypical rose.
I have almost nothing this week too!
How about Dryad?
I was up very early. I’ve already done a load of laundry and I’m looking at mowing the lawn and walking before it gets too hot. Supposed to be 90+F today. I wanted incense so I’m wearing Kyoto.
Portland is all fine unless you head for the two hotspots after about 11 pm.
House twins!
Kyoto! ?
Twins!?
Lavishly sprayed on Guerlain AA Herba Fresca.
It is overwhelmingly hot and humid today. Unbearable! ?.
Stay cool and hydrated everyone! ??
Yep, weather here is disgusting, too. I don’t remember it being so hot up in the mountains, with such high humidity. I’m wishing for fall, as always. Hope you’re able to catch a cool breeze soon.
We will not have a break any time soon. I hope August is not so awful! ?
You smell great!…wore that one yesterday.
Thank you! It is one of my favorite summer scents!
My humidity broke today, after crazy rain/wind storms yesterday. A nice break until Friday.
You are lucky! Here we are in a oven. It feels like 103 degrees right now. Should I call winter? ?
Don’t you dare!?
You know it’s already packing it’s bags.
?
It sounds like we are in the same weather zone
Possible break in the weather for me later this week, I hope. At least the Heat Emergency ends tonight. ??
Later this week for us also. We will have a brief relief on Wednesday. Then back to the 90’s.
Hopefully your new AC unit is still working okay!
It is! But it is so hot, that it doesn’t seem to be enough! ??
Happy Monday! My SOTD is one (small) spritz of Dior’s Addict. I love it but it blooms like crazy on me.
Congratulations to Clueless, on it’s 25th anniversary. I learned something new, the movie is based on Jane Austin’s Emma (who knew?). This means I’ll have to rewatch the movie and read the novel! My class ends tonight so I’ll get started asap to catch up on my reading list!
Recovering from a hike-filled weekend. The hubby and I hiked through the Presidio, had a lovely (distanced) picnic al fresco with friends overlooking the GG bridge.
Now it’s running shoes on, and out the door for a four mile walk! 🙂
Clueless! Blast from the past! I had so much fun with that movie. If you want to go all out on Emma things, there is also a new Emma version out, which I haven’t seen yet. My favourite Emma production is the BBC mini-series from 2009 with Romola Garai as Emma.
@ka_rina, thanks for the recommendation! I’ll have to check that out!
Clueless is a really well done interpretation of Emma. I haven’t read the book…need to put it on my list.
I have a hankering to watch A Room With a View again. I’ve been listening to it via Audible, and it’s so subtly satirical and with such arch observations.
I adore Room With a View – Helena Bonham Carter and Julian Sands *sigh*
Another beautifully-paced movie is Enchanged April, with Miranda Richardson, Joan Plowright, and Alfred Molina.
Oh oh oh — jumping in to second the rec of Enchanted April. It is the movie I watch whenever I need to feel better about the world. I bought it on DVD and have a digital download on my iPad — I love it that much. I would also recommend the novel on which it’s based — very short, but has a philosophical element that is not really part of the film. (And the plot is slightly different, in a way that may disappoint those of us who believe the film to be perfect in every way.)
Enjoy your walk! My morning walk was very short and I came back soak and wet in this heat..
I didn’t know that about Clueless either!
Interesting article re: Clueless anniversary: https://www.vogue.com/article/alicia-silverstone-clueless-25th-anniversary-interview
I am wearing Jo Malone Silk Blossom today and drinking my second cup of East India Oolong tea.
Oh, I should pour a cup of tea for myself…
Oooh, I need to cave and order more oolong at some point! Mr. Teebear loves black and green tea but can get behind some nice milk oolong too, I think oolongs are my favorite!
Perris Mandarino di Sicilia – which is nice. If didn’t own any other citrusy colognes this might be a contender since I do enjoy mandarine and don’t find it used much. But as it is I will happily spritz through tester and be done with it.
Ordered some more samples from Perris today, the new JC Ellena scents Lavande Romaine and Mimosa Tanneron. Lavender and Mimosa are in my top notes, so very hopeful ?
Do report back! I’m very curious about Mimosa Tanneron and Lavande Romaine!
Waiting for their polish stockist to get these in their store so I can get my samples.
Will do ?
What a lovely bee photo, Robin!
By total coincidence I’m wearing lavender – Chanel Boy – today 🙂
I wore Boy a lot over the weekend. I feel like it doesn’t last, or maybe my nose is use to it. Not sure..will revisit..
Oh!? It lasts all day on me, no need to reapply
Am planning a week of bees. Eventually I will run out of themes.
Woke in Lyric today. Twelve days before I have a vacation. I might not be going anywhere but it will be great to have a week that I don’t have to be at work. I think I will have to pull out Zagorsk today.
You smell gorgeous in your Lyric!
SOTD (so far): Eau Sauvage. I forgot to look for Eau de Lalique, smelled some terrific dill in the Missouri Botanical Gardens yesterday. Perhaps EdL tonight! 🙂
You smell fantastic, I think I will wear that tomorrow.
We are growing enough dill for our whole state, I don’t know why.
Penhaligon’s Castile. I have absolutely nothing for this CP.
You will not be alone. I should not have had 2 obscure weeks in a row, sorry!
It is totally fine, Robin. A lazy perfume week for me, no planning.
Smelling fine in Dame Peach Blossom, Violet & Vanilla today.
She-ra if you had to choose one vanilla from your collection to rescue which would it be?
A tough question indeed but I would probably choose Micallef Note Vanillee which is perhaps the best boozy, spicy vanilla to be had out there. I have the old/original bottle and I believe the juice in the new bottle has been reformulated sadly.
What vanilla would you rescue?
I’m going to add the Micallef to my sample list. My vanilla rescue doesn’t matter as much as yours because I know so little about this note! The perfume I would rescue from my collection is Coromandel
Sampling BK’s Woman in Gold (Dusk till Dawn)– which is a little weird. I keep expecting it to blossom into a proper oud, or even rounding out with a hint of cumin (a perfume note that I am very leery of) but it stays too sweet and high pitched for me–never grounded in anything. It is the kind of vanilla I really do not like—too sweet without the rum.
I can imagine smelling this in the wild, and thinking someone was wearing a lovely, well-crafted and expensive perfume. But as something to smell on myself–not my cuppa.
Woman in Gold smells really good on me, all rose and woods, and lasts and lasts. On my mostly perfume twin friend, it smells like you experienced it, and the structure fell apart on her in about 20 minutes. Weird, huh?
That makes me feel better. This one gets a lot of love, so I just suspected my nose doesn’t work.
I get the same as you from it.
So interesting. About midway through the drydown, it started to hum–a vanilla hum, so not a favorite top note for me, but a hum. Then it went back to nope.
I have to revisit mine but I know it smells really nice on me (according to I, me and myself).
All experts!
Wearing O de Lancome today. It’s already hot and will be all week so this could be my sotw!
Happy Monday everyone.
That’s a good one that doesn’t get enough love
Wearing Diptyque Eau des Sens today.
Have a good week everyone!
Wore this all weekend and almost out! Smelling good!
Thank you Floragal! I’m also getting low on it, but not dangerously so ?
This week, it will be easy for me to stick to the CP with Zoologist scents. I didn’t remember what the CP was, though, so I’m wearing Brin de Reglisse, because I’m on something like Day 130 of sleeping poorly, and my body is honestly sick of this nonsense.
On another note, I appear to have developed face wrinkles. One side of my face has that groove running from below my nose past the side of my lips and down to just above my chin. You know the one. (It is possible the other side has grown this wrinkle too, but I just can’t see it because of the angle of sunlight). So I’m in the best shape of my life with no one to show off for, and by the time anyone does see me, I’ll be covered in wrinkles. Great.
I was just complaining that wearing a face mask makes me try to smile more with my eyes…making my crow’s feet deeper!
I find myself doing that too.
You know, I like eye wrinkles 🙂 they look friendly! I don’t have those yet, but I do not think I will mind those. The mouth wrinkles, though, are much less attractive, imo :-/
hahaha – i agree. and the worst part is – I just know and can already see it will be the mouth wrinkles for me… ?
Crows feet are the best wrinkles! They show everyone that you’ve led a life with lots smiles
???
Exactly this!
I just wish the dainty little crows feet didn’t also come with the eye bags.
I have frown lines, and crows feet now. What I don’t like is that my face is falling.
Falling! What does that mean? Jowl formation? I’ve always found it fascinating how subtle changes to someone’s face indicate age.
Lol, I am probably making it sound worse than it is. Really it’s that my skin isn’t as elastic as it was, and I realized that this is why people get facelifts.
Ah! Ok, that makes sense 🙂 I do hope I never want a face lift, but I definitely get why other people do it. (I also hope I never want to dye the grey out of my hair, but I can’t predict what I will want once push comes to shove!)
I’m opposed to them but still want one (facelift).
Grateful that my face is practically lineless but that’s only because my neck got ’em all! If I could wear a turtleneck year-round I would.
I love a good fitting black turtleneck.
Hey, if it’s good enough for Diane Keaton….
Love her too!
If I look like Diane Keaton at her age, I will not mind a few neck wrinkles.
lol — yep, big fan on many levels
Yes. I do not mind wrinkles one bit, but the sagging is not so fun and makes me understand the surgery…
What kind of pillowcase are you using? Are the wrinkles more prominent on the side you sleep on?
Interesting thought. Yes, the wrinkles are indeed more prominent on the side I sleep on more. I use a silk pillowcase (to be nice to my hair, since the humidity out in my part of CA is so low). Is there some kind of pillowcase that’s extra bad or extra good for wrinkles?
Some skin care specialist listed her habits. Besides retinol, she makes a point of sleeping on her back to limit wrinkles.
I am more lazy than I am vain 🙂 and I have enough trouble sleeping in any configuration my body pleases that I won’t be able to restrict myself to back-only sleeping. I guess I’ll just have to (1) look into retinol and (2) accept that the left side of my face will be extra-wrinkly. But thank you for sharing!
Ugh, I just find that very hard to do. I had to after each of my (four) hip replacement surgeries. It was tough.
Yeah…I should add I can’t do that either.
Silk pillowcases are good but it has to be the shiny slippery kind (if you wore it and pitted your body against a body sized pillow case, you would slide off). Or, use high thread count cotton cases that look like satin. Also, always use sunscreen. If you get a white cast from the higher SPF, try mixing with a primer to smooth it out and you don’t even have to rub it in because it’s all on the surface that really counts anyway. If mixing, try to use the same brand. La Mer works for me and I am sticking with it.
I’ve never tried La Mer, but am a big fan of LaRoche-Posay (the mineral 50 SPF). I also like Unseen Sunscreen (SuperGoop), which is only SOF 40, but fine for most of the year here in the Finger Lakes where 1) we get fewer hours of sunlight per year than Seattle (true of my town, perhaps not true of all FL) and 2) in normal times, I am not outdoors much M-F.
Seconding the advice about sunscreen. I’ve noticed some crepe-y skin on the back of my hands that is probably due to sun exposure.
That groove is the sign of many smiles!!!!
I’m in Kyoto. I’ll have to look through my sample stash and see what I have that starts with W, X,Y or Z.
You and me both!
I’m a tea rose and lily bomb in Yosh Sottile. Gotta be careful with this one. Should try layering it with something to crisp it up…it veers into cloying. (My usual layering scent is Aliage…it greens everything up.)
The husband’s birthday is later this week. We pretty much already know that a dinner out is unlikely. He hates the heat, so sitting outside in this weather is a Non-starter. I will bake a cake but dinner itself is a question mark…he’s not a happy camper.
order in from a fancy restaurant???
My husband’s birthday was a month or so back, and we BBQd some things and had a couple friends over, outside, at a safe distance. Oh, and I surprised him by covering the dining room with streamers, balloons, and other silly birthday regalia. It made it feel more special, which seemed especially needed–he turned 40 and it’s been such a bummer of a year in so many respects.
I’m taking notes – hubby bday coming up too
Thanks for the idea! Decorations might be in order. He’s only getting a very small gift (since he recently made a large purchase for himself).
Streamers, balloons, plastic table cloth, confetti, party hats, matching paper napkins and plates. A person can go out, if they want to. ??
Oh, happy birthday to him!
Fascinating to see all of the outdoor dinning going on in the city especially where cars normally park. I wonder how the city is dealing with this especially the liability issue. Folks are practically sitting to eat in the street!
I know! On side streets, no big deal. But there are a lot on on 2nd Ave in between bike lane and traffic lane.
My birthday is at the end of the month, and I’m planning two weekends of socially distanced fun! We will have people over, one household at a time (functionally, two guests at a time), to sit in our backyard 10+’ away from us, for cocktails and cake. I can’t wait 🙂
Awwwwwwww. ??
Happy Birthday to Mr. B!
Scent twins!!! My first time!
Live Deva, I’m in Bruno Fazzolari’s Au Dela Narcisse. It’s gorgeous, and the favorite of my 3 that I tried through hajusuuri’s fun partnering project for 3 Fzotic samples.
I do have some ivintage Worth Je Reviens for the CP – my old signature from the 1970s although I think this bottle is from a bit later. But we’re camping again this weekend so I’ll wear it tomorrow to be with you all in spirit!
Hmmm. That should be vintage, not ivintage. And not that I couldn’t wear it camping which would be a fun juxtaposition, I just don’t want to bring my vintage bottle along in case anything happened to it. 😉
Au Dela Nacisse is hands-down my fave BF scent! You, and Deva, smell fab!
Las Flores from Provision Scents today. Like many, I’m very unsettled. Peace, health and less anxiety for all!
Amen to that
Yes please.
Joining in the wishes. May we all be safe, happy, healthy, live with ease.
Dune again today. I wasn’t done with it, yet.
It’s getting hotter for us this week, so naturally, I’m roasting a turkey today. I’ve found turkeys to be very reassuring during this period of intermittent food scarcity. 20 pounds of food, sitting there in my freezer, anytime I might need it. It’s my emotional support poultry. ?
emotional support poultry
Lol!
???
Love this! Gobble, gobble.
I’m roasting two turkey tenderloins! At least they take less than an hour.
That seems much more reasonable in the current season!
Thanks for the smile Marjorie Rose. I needed one.
???
I will also thank you for the giggle! Like Calypso, I think I’ll stick with turkey tenderloins, if they can be found.

In other news, COVIDIOCY!
1) I was at the post office on Saturday afternoon. On a good day, there are 2 postal worker stations. This woman with her chin covering, pretty much held one of the counters captive. I’m glad I was at the tail end of the debacle where she had 121 (not a typo), that had to be individually weighed and stamped. So, I fault her and I fault the post office manager for not adjusting the service counter protocol. If there ever was a justifiable COVID-rage, this would be one of them.
2) Businesses have different ways of determining how and where best to place the plexiglass barriers. At a bubble tea shop within a shop, there was plexiglass in front of the cashier / order taker. Practically, no one I’ve seen stands in front of it to talk. Instead, they move to the side where the completed orders are held and speak to the cashier from that wide-open space. What’s the point?
Done, for now …
You smell fabulous! And I’ve been on a tear regarding covidiocy as well. I don’t know how much more we can dumb it down in order for people to get a grasp of this disease.
Really, I’m am so over everything right now. I’m ready to pack everything up, never go back to work, take my doggo to the woods, and live the life Thoreau meant me to live.
LOL. Sounds like you’re on your way to making it happen!
You know it, Sister! ??
I was at the gas station the other day, and the guy behind me had his mask on his chin. The lady behind the plexiglass says “You have to have it covering your mouth” I looked at her, and she only had hers over her mouth.
?♀️
This is when your death stare should work. Oy!
I’ve had a few frustrating post office experiences as well in the past month. The service, unfortunately, has really gone down hill. At least at my local office. I usually have my husband deal because it always puts me in a bad mood.
Delivery has been pretty good but I agree it has gone downhill with person to person encounters.
That sounds very nice 🙂 I suppose it needs to go onto my list of things to sample someday.
Covidiocy is exactly why I am so worried about leaving my house, ever, for anything 🙁
It is definitely stressful. I am more comfortable going into stores but my body and senses are tense because it is always on the equivalent of Fight or Flight high alert setting and always calculating my next best move when I encounter covidiocy.
Surprisingly, I didn’t encounter any covidiots grocery shopping yesterday. Everyone had their masks on correctly, were social distancing, and politely excusing themselves if they got too close to another shopper.
I think we need to give CM8 this experience. Those TJ shoppers are vicious. Not the reason I don’t go … I have two “near” me and each is 12 miles away. Thanks, but no thanks, since I have very good alternatives way closer.
I refuse to go to the TJ’s near me. Their parking lot is an abomination, and the drive to get there is pretty much the same. It’s a pity, because TJ’s freeze-dried fruit is excellent.
Oh yay! I can see your pictures again!??
Chypre Mousse for a long work day
You smell beautiful!
Sorry for the rough day, Robin, you smell cool and serene.
I am wearing Floris Stephanotis, a favorite.
Stephanotis flowers are beautiful, but I don’t remember if they have a scent or not.
Yes, they do. My brain is kind of fried today, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them in the lists when Logee’s Greenhouse has their Fragrant Plants sale.
Last time I was around stephanotis flowers was 25 years ago, so some details have been misplaced. ?
Oh yes, I too like their waxy white flowers. Indeed they do have a lovely scent, heady.
And I reapplied so I still do, but this was not my favorite day and I only got halfway through my list.
You must smell beautiful. I don’t think I ever smelled that floris but stephanotis is such a great smell.
Some days, nothing goes right. Yes, Floris made it very disctintive, not jasmin-like at all, very original. I thought it was discontinued but was told by a British perfumista that you can still obtain it from the flagship store but you have to ask, they don’t display it, not sure why.
I feel for Robin and all others experiencing heat waves. We are back home and the weather is glorious – temperate and breezy and sunny.
I have Orange Verte on one arm and Bigarade Concentree on the other. The latter is more cuminy then the former but I’m loving both.
Share your favorite orange perfumes if you any! I’m on a summer 2020 orange kick.
I’ve been using my Tocca Stella sample. It’s Orange at the top, but dries down more perfumy. My favorite is still Orange Sanguine but I would like to try Shay&Blue Blood Oranges.
The Orange Sanguine gets mentioned alot – I think I have a sample somewhere
Guerlain Mandarine Basilic!
Ditto!
That and Body Shop Satsuma products.
I think SmokeyT also likes that one
I must put it on my must smell list
Another one that gets mentioned alot – I enjoyed reading your review of it. I’m sure I’m not the only one on here to do this, but I often read NST reviews when I want to relax.
It’s my day off, and I had 2 things I wanted to accomplish. Get a new phone and vacuum out my car. Neither one happened. The phone guy was just irritating me. He wasn’t answering my questions and kept pushing accessories on me for the sale. I finnaly just said, I have to think about it and left. I stopped at 2 gas stations, both had out of order signs on the vacuums.
Sotd is Cafe Rose. I enjoy this more with each wearing.
Oh gosh, I’m sorry! Hope the day gets better
Oh, it’s fine. I’m back home doing laundry, so something is accomplished ?
I’ve got little patience for pushy and bad listening sales people as well. Probably would have done the same thing.
Hope you have a better experience next time.
Luckily it’s not an urgent purchase yet. I can take a little time to search out a good deal. Had he been better at understanding his customer, I would have got something today.
Is there a car wash near you? Some of them have car vacuums.
I was about to say this!
There is, but you have to buy a carwash to use the vacuums.
That’s mean and cheap!
Just a skosh of BBW Coconut Lime Verbena body lotion (swiped from a stay at a Holiday Inn). Very nice, although stays very close to the skin.
Tea this morning: various
Reading: Finished Becoming Duchess Goldblatt a couple of days ago (loved it); haven’t started anything else yet.
Got up early this morning and dealt with some weeds in the landscape. A little productivity was a nice way to start the day. It’s hot today, so I’m glad I got out there before 7.
I did not know that was a book! Added to list, thanks.
It is a bit surreal reading about heatwaves while we are in the middle of winter. It’s cold and wet this morning and I’m not looking forward to the 20 minute walk to work.
I’ll cheer myself up with Nahema, I’ve got a couple of Zoologist samples I’ll save for later in the week.
And it is likewise surreal to be thinking about cold and wet! I do actually prefer my heatwave.
SotD = Luci Ed Ombre
again, and still in love with it! ?
Also happy about today’s tea, Cup of Calm Lavender Mint. Feeling quite relaxed for a Monday. ?
Beautiful lavender picture up top today! ?
Glad you were relaxed! I was out of sorts all day long and now just waiting for tomorrow 🙂
It’s warm enough for me to be spritzing rosewater and Mandragore, both straight from the fridge.
Oh, those sound nice together!
I could do two weeks of Zoologists but Nancy and I are on our third day of trying Bruno Fazzolari samples. Today is Zdravetz. It’s rather nasty for the firstborn, but I’m really liking it now. Rose, Wood, vanilla, and a calm warmth. That first hour though almost made it a scrubber. I said petroleum, she said industrial note. His packaging is superb, though.

Rather nasty for the first HOUR. Geeze Louise what a bizarre autocorrect!
Omg! So glad you clarified. I read it twice, thinking what kind of perfume is this?! Lol
Me TOO! Lol!
I thought it was some kind of rosemary baby perfume!,??
It was kind of a horror show for me, lillyjo (ran out of thread below).
CM8’s autocorrect strikes again!
Thanks for the clarification. I think cazaubon recoiled from this one.
I’m trying to figure out how my perfume is impacting the firstborns of the world. . .
PS My account here is private but if someone on here sends a request I’ll probably recognize you.
And I just switched mine back to public. I have blocked some people and have also muted some.
I get requests every day from the Nigerian and Brazilian imposters. They all have the same set of four or five selfies and are easy to spit but very annoying.
Easy to spot. I simply cannot type on my iPad.
Same horrible weather for me as Robin, hajusuuri, pl67, LTSG, and quite a few others have. I am sad and lethargic today.
So, here’s what has happened with the wedding so far, based on the info I have. Please bear in mind my data is not complete, and I have my own biases.
The bride & groom approached someone to officiate at their ceremony, which was scheduled to take place in December. The would-be officiant was not comfortable with the idea and declined. I figured that was the end of it. Nope.
This was the guest I commented about over the weekend. His concerns about CV-19 exposure are entirely valid. However, I feel that the way he expressed his point of view was very inflammatory. One of the bridesmaids enthusiastically seconded his manifesto. This particular bridesmaid is married to the best man. Tempers got heated, words were exchanged, and the best man stepped back from his role. Then another groomsman withdrew. The bride ended up telling said bridesmaid that she was no longer part of the bridal party. Loads of hurt feelings all around, and damaged friendships. I’m pretty sure some of those friendships won’t survive.
Some of this might have been prevented by the bride and groom telling people that they were also looking into virtual options at this time. From what I have heard, this did not happen. I asked the bride recently (before all this blew up): what contingencies do you have if things get really bad re: COVID? I assumed that other people would have done the same thing if they were uncomfortable with the situation. Stupid me.
So the current situation is this: the physical ceremony has been postponed. To when is an open question. Apologies have been offered by some of the principals involved, with varying degrees of success or lack thereof. It sounds like some kind of remote or virtual wedding will take place.
I’ve condensed the story to keep my post to a reasonable length. Thanks for letting me vent, Robin.
SOTD = Heely Eau Sacree, from the sample stash. Incense to try and calm down.
Wow, this all sounds pretty intense!
I feel bad for the best man, because no matter what his feelings are, he has to go along with his wife. I hope the friendship can be saved.
Yeah, me too lillyjo. The best man is definitely caught in a no-win situation. He and the groom have been friends for over 30 years.
Such a shame.
Oh boy. What was supposed to be a happy occasion got turned on its head. I’ll be a Debbie-downer and say that these things usually have other underlying contributing factors but I hope I’m wrong. I’m sorry for what you’re going through.
I think a lot of it is CV-19 fear and lack of communication. Or maybe people just didn’t want to hear certain things until it all blew up.
But yes, there probably are other things afoot.
Holy cow! I’m so sorry you’re dealing with all this. Are you obligated in any way to be part of this fiasco? If not, just step away and let the kids play until they’re all played out.
I’m the maid of honor currently. So far, no one has screamed at me.
Oh?
Yeah, I’m kinda in a pickle, aren’t I?
Oh dear, that’s a shame that what should be a happy event for all concerned turns into this. Maybe time the great healer will help. I think you’re right there should have been a plan B all along.
Maybe time will heal some wounds. Maybe not. Definitely not all of them. I saw some of the vitriol directed at the bride and groom.
I’m so sorry that it has made you sad.
Your sympathy is very much appreciated. Thank you.
Wow. I’m so sorry for the bride and groom trying to balance all this. It’s a stressful time at best, and trying to plan around COVID adds to that.
To my mind, there’s no excuse for a guest to pitch a fit. Just decline to attend if you are uncomfortable. It’s not about you.
Different, obviously, for wedding party. But sympathy and kindness toward the couple is necessary.
And the kicker is, not a single physical invitation or e-invite has been sent yet.
I can’t imagine what the bride and groom are going through.
Is city hall an option? If they want to make it official?
..then they can throw a reception anytime they want.
City Hall or something like that is an option, as is a virtual ceremony. And yes, you are correct in assuming that the couple do want to make it official.
Ouf what a drama. Glad people are starting to settle their feathers and issue apologies!!!
Emotions are still running pretty high, though. I’d say things are far from settled.
Adding my sympathies, what a mess.
I see I have lots of beautiful smelling company for the heatwave! So in a pique of perfume perversity, I sprayed several squirts of Feminite du Bois all over to see if maybe I liked it in hot weather. Nope. There is a note in the base of this that I just do not like. I wish I could describe it better. I have only encountered it in Serge Lutens fragrances, so at least I know how to avoid it.
Urine? Is it a urinous note?
It is not. It is almost like anise crossed with cinnamon and a good amount of sweaty polyester. It has the carry of a resin but not a real one. Now, I normally do not mind a bit of cinnamon and I love anise. It is funny that you mentioned the urine note. That is actually how I tell if a perfume has real sandalwood or not. If it is present, it is the real deal.
Sweaty polyester?!? Yeek!
My thought exactly!
I find a urine note in lots of “woods” based scents. I always thought it was the cedar, but maybe it’s the sandalwood?
Sweaty polyester sounds bad.
I think that some molecule in wood resins reads this way. I really wish I had a chemistry degree sometimes! And also as pickles. Salty, vaguely vinegary.
Hello! I’ve just been trying to stay in the house, caught in the same heatwave as Jalapeno and other relatively local peeps. (*waves*) As long as they’re getting enough water, the jasmines, heliotropes and lantana seem to be very happy with the extremely hot weather. I think lantana is kind of a weed down in the deep South of the U.S.
(wipes sweat off brow, waves back)
Yeah, I’m hunkered down today, too.
Lantana is definitely native in SE Texas. Once you plant it, it’s around for as long as you want it to be around. It’s not like mint…you can dig it up and get rid of it if you want to, but it’s pretty and comes back every spring.
Stay safe in the cool, neyronrose! ?
Yes, I see lantana everywhere here. I think it’s very pretty.
Yes, I think it’s pretty. 🙂 Even on the windowsill during the winter, it was flowering now and then, and then it had several clusters of flowers when I put it out. 🙂
So it’s more of a pretty wildflower, then, that people like to have. 🙂
I’m trying to stay cool. I got enough food on my last grocery store run that I (hopefully) shouldn’t have to go out for a couple more days. And I’d stocked up on rice and beans somewhere in mid-March, when Pennsylvania started to shut down non-essential businesses. This has proved useful. 🙂 The first story of the house stays much cooler than the second story, so I’ve been sleeping on the couch downstairs on those nights where the temperature has stayed pretty high.
I put on Yosh Ginger Ciao for a little while this evening. I find it refreshing. 🙂
Well, I’ve been all over the place today as far as fragrance is concerned.
1. Dog walk = JHAG Sunny Side Up sample, just okay
2. Bruno Fazzolari sample from Scentbridge, with scent partner Calypso = Zdravetz, not for me. Started off smelling like glue and various industrial fluids and faded, thankfully, to a vague vanilla.
3. SOTE = Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit layered over Bruno’s Vetiverissimo, actually very nice. It sounds weird, but really works!
“Industrial fluids”? ?
SotD Yosh Sottile 1.61. So fresh it almost made me feel like it wasn’t a heatwave.
4 hours of Zoom today (blergh).
Tried a friend’s recipe for broccoli and edamame soba noodle salad with a soft boiled egg for dinner, and it was DELICIOUS.
Looking forward to XYZ week as I have a few Zoologist samples! And can wear Hyrax when I go grocery shopping to force people to socially distance ?
