Happy Almost-Friday! Birthdays today: Oliver Sacks, Tom Hanks. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm quite happily in L'Artisan Parfumeur Ananas Fizz.
Reminder: 7/10 is Piña Colada Day. Wear a perfume with pineapple, coconut, rum, or any combination of the three.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

From a decant sent by a dear friend.
How is it? I’ve been wanting to try his Musc, have you tried that one?
Eek!! I don’t even remember if I tried the Music Neutre!! LOL ?.
I don’t think so. I tried Duality oil a while back but I don’t think the oils have the same effect as the EDPs which I prefer.
Singularity is clean, fresh and a bit soapy. My nose really hones in on the lily of the valley. The friend who sent it says that her friend says it smells like Dial soap in the best possible way. Hahaha! Maybe that’s why I like it!!
SL Un Bois Vanille with a coconut note for the cp.
Watched another ‘80’s flick, Some Kind of Wonderful last night on prime. I hadn’t seen that one in ages. Not John Hughes’ best work- imho- but watchable. It had a decent soundtrack, I’d almost forgotten about Flesh for Lulu and Charlie Sexton.
See my comment below on Tone….you had asked where I got it.
I almost recommended that movie to you for the weekend! The movie that made me love Eric Stolz?
But I am still on my cheap as chips soap kick. Have Tone in the bathtub which I bought at my local supermarket for 50 cents a bar. Now I am reading that it’s d/c?? And Olay Birch and Lavender which is equally as wonderful. Heading my way is a bar of Vitabath green gelee which I threw into a birthday order I made for a family member because I had 30 percent off…. got more hand sanitizer too but it’s for her. Robin, you’ve earned A LOT of enabler pins for turning me back on to Vitabath!!!
I was wondering where you found Tone, better stock up!!? We’ve got the vitabath green gelee in one of our showers.
Oh I may just buy two sets of the six packs LOL. They are only $2.99 which is 50 cents per bar!!
The green gelee was a staple in our house in the 70s. I bought a gift pack ( which comes with lotion and pouf sponge) for my mom and the Spa Scent which is marine in a gift pack for one Marzipan and the Orchid one in a gift pack for another Marzipan plus two body washes, a delicious hand soap ( can’t remember the name but it’s a gourmand) and another hand sanitizer because they fit beautiful in the cup holder of a car and I want my daughter to have one available at all times…and then I threw in a bar soap of the green gelee scent for me……I guess Robin get 20 pins?? LOL ?
Oh wow! All from their direct website?
The green was a staple in our house too and my mom still uses it. To my nose it is exactly the same as it was! Takes me back…
Yes! And because I was on the mailing list I got 30 percent off ?
I have tried many expensive lavender soap bars but keep returning to Yardley English Lavender. I get it at the dollar store but one can find it most anywhere.
I love the Yardley’s too ????
Yes, Mom saw online that Tone soap had been discontinued, so she had me buying six-packs of it whenever I saw it in a grocery store for much of April and May. It’s just about the only soap she knows she’s not allergic to, so she wanted a stockpile that would last her a while.
Shalimar cologne, but the new(er) version
Today I am having two friends over for tea. This is a first for me since the shut down. We will go on the balcony and discuss some books we have all read.
Last night a made an Arabic pudding for todays tea date, it has both orange and rose water in it, and I will crush some pistachios to sprinkle on top. I love anything with rose water in it, it makes my taste buds go wild.
Between the rose water pudding and the Shalimar, I think I have seduced myself. basta così..
Enjoy your tea!
Ltsg, Macy’s is having a Black Friday beauty day…there’s a Shalimar body lotion & shower gel at $29, down from $60…tempted myself, though I’ve enough shower gel to see me into next year.
going to look…
Somehow a bottle of the lotion and the EDP that is on sale ended up in cart. I hesitated with the shower gel because my skin does well only with gently cleansers and soaps.
Sounds like a lovely day!
So lovely – enjoy your tea!
Your tea date sounds really nice – seeing friends, discussing books AND delicious food. Doesn’t get much better!
Yes, they enjoyed the Arabic pudding, we had two pots of tea..one was Marco Polo and one was Vanille des Îles all Mariage Freres…
One friend made coconut macaroons and the other friend brought the pile of books she borrowed from me back in the beginning of the shut down and then took 3 more. I am like a library!!
Well you have seduced me too! Glad they liked the pudding.
What is this pudding called?
Sadly never ran across Ananas Fizz, but bet you smell cheerful, Robin!
Wearing Everyone Coconut & Lemon body lotion under Cutter Unscented as I head out for a walk–much needed thunderstorms predicted for afternoon & evening.
Hmm..I am shining off a nice enabler pin for you for when you return from your walk
It is very cheerful, but also long gone and I am now in DSH Iris Tuxedo, which is quite nice.
I’m going with a rum note today, in Atelier Gold Leather. Tomorrow, I’m going to wear Ananas Fizz or Villainess Vanilla.
Yum, I have Gold Leather too, nice choice!
Serge Lutens Chene because of the rum note, although get no rum from this perfume. But the important thing is that I am enjoying it.
That is the most important thing.? We are house twins!
Hi twin! ?I did not know Un Bois Vanille has coconut. I am sure you smell great!
That really is the important thing!
I am happy when I get off work tonight, I will have a 3 day weekend. Tomorrow we are getting rain and some cooler temps and I can’t wait. Spent the morning in ISM. I was thinking of wearing Jicky today but after smelling the cap, I noped out of that. Too soon after my grandmother’s death to wear it. It was the last perfume I wore when I visited her before she passed. I will be wearing Zagorsk instead.
Yay for 3 day weekend and cooler temps! I am afraid to look at our forecast.
In Cleveland, it’s supposed to rain and some scattered thunderstorms. We need the rain though. The dirt is so cracked and the plants are having a hard time.
You may be better off not knowing, Robin. Although you will want a raincoat or umbrella tomorrow.
Or hunker down!
SOTD: Essential Parfums Divine Vanille
Second cup of coffee as I lost 2+ hours of sleep last night due to more fireworks (just the loud sound, no pretty explosion of colors). Probably more like sticks of dynamite being set off. I really feel for the parents with young kids and the animals scared out of their wits.
Looking forward to tonight’s virtual wine tasting hosted by my company. Appreciate the effort to provide fun activities for us to enjoy even if we can’t get together in person.
What do you think of this vanilla? I have a travel spray of Orange x Santal from this brand and I like it a lot.
Orange/santal sounds amazing!
I like it. Great performance and leans more tonka-ish without heavy tonka. I wish the incense was more prominent on me but it’s there if I ‘look’ for it. The opening is the best part, in my opinion, must be the osmanthus as you get a fruity/citrus smell.
For the price, it’s a great buy.
In Lolita Lempicka Fleur de Corail because it was mentioned here and it really is a quintessential beach scent. Salty flowers and something like suntan lotion. Perfect for a sweltering summer day here in the Banana Belt of Virginia.
That is a “happy perfume”, very laid back and beachy. Do you really grow bananas in Virginia? Or is it a metaphor?
Hardy Bananas can take our winters and the summers here in Southeastern Virginia are beyond sweltering. I can leave Taro bulbs in the ground, just mulch well. It is very rare to have temperatures below freezing in the winter. I have observed the slow creep of rising temperatures in this region for a long time. I used to have to pull all the tropical houseplants back in by Halloween. Now, it is more like the end of November.
Amouage Lyric Woman. I’ve been wearing this every day since my bottle arrived last week, even though the weather has been in the 90s. I’m surprised that I have to reapply once or twice during the day (I thought it would have more staying power) but it’s nice to slip away to my bedroom – and away from my young kids – for a bit of beauty.
Lyric is fabulous. In heat, I have to reapply every 8 hours. Winter every 12.
You smell lovely!
I wore Lyric a couple times last week and I‘m always pleasantly surprised at how well it develops in hot/humid weather.
For the CP, I have Yosh Ginger Ciao and Lubin Idole but neither appeal to me in the oppressive heat so I’m wearing Etro Messe di Minuit today. Love incense in hot weather, it’s like wearing my own little air conditioner.
I’m still watching classic movies on TCM, my current crush is Irene Dunne. So adept at both comedy and drama, with a beautiful singing voice.
Irene Dunne is one of my all-time favorites. Had an incredible intelligence. She’s hilarious in Life With Father…the scene about the pug dog makes me laugh out loud every time.
Love that movie I just watched her in Ann Vickers from 1933 which was rather racy for it’s day!
Fiance left the house at the crack of dawn to go on a bajillion-mile bike ride, so I’m wearing Zoologist Bee! Two sprays, which is a lot of this one (for me). I smell great.
I’ve had a lot of trouble sleeping lately because I’ve been coughing like crazy all night. I have no trouble at all during the day but something about nighttime or the lying-down position is problematic. The Internet suggested steam breathing and saline up my nose, but those didn’t work. Tonight I’ll try a salt water gargle and/or a Neti pot. I don’t want to prop my head higher up, because that isn’t a comfortable sleeping position for me. Robitussin doesn’t even work; it just makes it so that I’m extra tired in the morning after not having slept Any tips on how to get this cough to stop? It’s extra bad because I’m a singer and coughing really damages your throat!
If you start coughing as soon as you lie down, that is a sign of a post nasal drip and a steroid nasal spray would be your best bet. If you only start coughing around 2-3 am (when your cortisol levels are at their lowest), you could have asthma. Either way, best to see at least a family physician and for them to do a peak flow.
Ah. Well, I know I do have asthma, but it’s usually mild enough not to cause problems. Thanks for the recommendations!
Maybe it’s just an exacerbation of your asthma. If you don’t have daytime problems or exercise induced symptoms, you can probably sit it out using your usual medication. Hope it passes soon!
Thank you! I think I’ll pull out my inhaler, which I hardly use nowadays. Thanks for the recommendations, and if NST Med doesn’t work, I’ll talk to my doctor
Maybe try sleeping on your stomach?
I don’t think I could fall asleep like that what do you do with your neck??
Try some mild herbal tea with honey, or just very warm water with honey, right before bed. My Dr’s office gave me that instruction when I had a bad cough recently and it worked very well. Sorry about the interrupted sleep, that’s the worst.
Thanks, ringthing, I think I will try that!
hiya, koyel, sorry about the cough! A family member had a similar problem with night coughing, we thought it might be allergies, but the usual remedies didn’t work. Oddly, or coincidentally, the cough stopped when we elevated the head of the bed a few inches to help with acid reflux, weird but true. Hope you find your fix soon. I used to teach vocal music at an elementary school, so I know how a cough can derail the singing voice.
I finished day 28 with Chloe Ting on Tuesday. She suggests 7 days off to recover. I’m thinking 7 weeks would be good, lol. Thanks for sharing Chloe with me. I do feel stronger, and my super narrow rock star jeans are a little easier to zip up now. I’m gonna hang with Adrien and her new-ish Home yoga video series next. Please let me know if a new exercise guru finds you!
CONGRATS! I’m so proud of you! I have restarted the program and just finished day 23. Just five days to go!! I was thinking of giving myself a two-week break, but I may reevaluate later Good for you for being stronger and having an easier time to zip your jeans! I think it’s gotten easier for me to do her videos, too.
No points for me today – I’m in No. 5 L’eau. It’s a cool, cloudy morning here in Seattle. Yay Thursday.
I am not usually jealous of cool and cloudy, but I would take it right now.
Comparing 31 RC and 1932 EDTs for Science!
I have a bunch of work to get through today and nothing focuses my mind like compulsively my forearms. ??
Compulsively sniffing that is.???
Ha, that was easy enough to guess
I’ll stay away from the pineapple I think.
Jul et Mad Fugit Amor for me.
Also happy birthday to mama lucasai
Tomorrow she’ll get her L’Ombre des Merveilles as a present.
Happy Birthday to your mom! I am planning to buy the 30mL version of L’Ombre des Merveilles the next time I have a Sephora discount.
I bought her a 30 ml too!
30 ml is my perfect perfume size
Yes! Sadly most niche is in 100 ml.
Happy Birthday to your Mom.
I have some advice for you…Listen to your mom
(as I am dealing with two little ones who aren’t)
Happy Birthday to your mom! ?
Happy Birthday to Mama Lucasai!
I have the Jul et Mad White set and Fugit Amor is in the box (still unopened).
Can’t wait to hear what you think of it. That’s my fave from Les Whites.
Davidoff Zino from the husband’s stash. I tried Coromandel once and liked it, but don’t remember too much about it and couldn’t really say whether these two are twins. Zino is very easy to wear, though.
This is one of my favorite fragrances. Every patchouli lover should have at least a sample. I wish I could do a side by side with Coromandel too. Does Coromandel list rosewood as a note?
Another rainy, and chilly day.
I had to switch on the light in my work space (it was so dark outside) and I almost turned on the heating, but decided knitwear was a better and faster solution ?
SotD is Arso
Again, not cp worthy. But so good!
It didn’t feel quite as cold today as it did yesterday. I went for a very rainy walk with a friend yesterday morning. The good part is that chances of meeting anyone are very slim.
I’m in Eau des Merveilles today.
Will try to find something with rum in it for tomorrow. I may have a sample of Idole or Frapin somewhere. No pineapple or coconut in my collection.
Take care everybody!
Yum Eau des merveilles! You smell great. I think i will wear it tomorrow,
I was mainly into incense and woods last weeks. But now I am longing for something more sparkly and breezy.
woo-hoo for EdM! You smell wonderful.
I’m gaining cp points today in the unashamedly trashy Rockin’Rio by Escada.
I’ve surprised myself by how much I still enjoy this fragrance.
Which version of Rockin’ Rio do you have?
The oldest one in this bottle:
That’s the same one I have!
Seville à l’Aube. I’m a bit surprised my hand gravitated to this, since it’s hot and humid again. I usually would want something less lush.
Jealous. My sister pulled the trigger and got an ebike yesterday. Said it’s a game changer. Went on a 9 mile ride yesterday and was thrilled it didn’t bother her knees or anything.
I’ve asked for an ebike next year from DH!
Funny I was just looking at a Consumer Report column on ebikes! I think i would like to get one eventually and commute with it to work
She loves it. Told her husband she wanted a divorce so she can marry it.
Wearing some AG Nuit Etoilee. I keep it in the fridge, which was unnecessary this cool and rainy day.
I would never have thought of keeping that one in the fridge, but bet it’s nice that way.
I’ve realized that I find it difficult to talk about my daily choice of scent without referencing either the weather, the season, or whatever’s afoot with my internal landscape — the decision about how to smell is so closely linked with these things. I’ve been commando for a few days after my partner of 10 years and father of my very young child dropped a bombshell on me that he’s moving out and had already rented another house. One of those devastating times in life that you don’t really want to create scent-memories around. Feeling a bit more grounded today and I’m back in a single spritz of Lys Mediterranee, headed out for a walk in the woods with a girl friend.
Oh, Isabella, my heart is both mad and sad.
This is life altering for you and your little one. I am so sorry you have to go through this.
I had it happen it a similar way after 20 years of marriage.
Hugs to you. I will have faith you will come out of the storm stronger.
Whoa… I’m so sorry that you’re dealing with that news in an already burdened year.
You smell great and you will BE great even if you’re still figuring out how to move forward right now. Hugs.
So sorry for what you’re going through, hope you will get a lot of comfort from little pleasures.
I’m so sorry. And when there is a child involved, everything is even more difficult. May you have wisdom during these trying times.
Good grief, a friend of mine is also going through a similar situation. I told her the men make women messy (and vice versa )
Thank goodness for your girlfriend distracting you with a walk and for perfume
Chin up..this too shall pass
What, he didn’t even hint at this before??? I hope you will recover soon.
Argh no, i am so sorry. ?
I hope you can get some comfort from friends, family, or hobbies, perfume… Etc
How awful, and shocking. You’re in my thoughts.
I am so sorry about this news, sending you lots of hugs, do come here for support if you need it, this is tough news at a tough time!
This is so sad but thank goodness for friendships in this trying times. Best wishes rib to you and your little one and make him pay (not in a revenge way but for at least his financial obligations as the biological father and don’t accept less than what you are legally entitled to even if his circumstances change, especially if he’s had a or gets a hussy on the side – one of my no good cousins tried this and he pretty much got figuratively laughed out of divorce court multiple times).
Ditto on all of this!
I’m so sorry! I second what hajusuuri said as someone who has been thru this
Oof, so hard! Take care of yourself and your little one.
I am sorry. Hugs!
I am so sorry! You will be eventually fine. Having you in my thoughts and prayers.
I am so sorry to read this, that’s very hard.
Isabella, I’m very sorry for your sad turn of events. Good for you for going walking with a friend. Difficult events make me want to turn inward and retreat from the world, but I know that reaching out to friends and family is better.
I’m so sorry to hear this, and how dreadful that it was presented as a finished/ done deal. My biggest hugs to you.
Isabella, I’m so sorry. What a rotten way for him to behave! I know it hurts like heck though. Sending love to you and your kiddo.❤
So sorry to hear about this Isabella. Hugs.
Isabella, I’m so sorry. You are not along. May justice be served.
you are not alone!
Ditto to what Coin-op has said…you are not alone. Very sorry to hear this and hope you find strength from your friends and family. Please take good care of yourself and keep posting. Big hugs to your and your little one.
I’m so sorry to read this. Glad you have a friend to go with you on a walk in the woods…few better things to do. May your friends give you strength, and may your child be loved and protected.
Today is Satori. Second Zoom work session done. whew.
You smell amazing!
I havent used Zoom in a while.
We are encouraged to use Skype or Teams.
….At work i mean.
For private use i can grab any app want of course. Haha.
Thank you., I love Satori.
I’m in Hermès Rose Ikebana, applies like it was a body spray. ?
Working on taxes today and trying to keep the drama, angst and micromanagement to a minimum. ?
Thanks, we need it today.
I am screaming internally as I am missing two 1099s (not material but I would like to be complete) and I owe I owe. I keep wondering how I could be so off ??.
We owe also, so I can empathize with you! Ugh… ?
I owe a ton as well, my sympathies.
You smell gorgeous! I had a similar to do list today, ug!
Nuxe Prodigieux le Parfum for coconut ?, I do like that scent very much and so much better than Terracotta as I mentioned before.
You smell nice
Thank you Yasmina. You too in Mohur.
Oohh.. I will wear this tommorow!
It projects so well, it really is so good.
I have a nuxe perfume, or fragrant water. Going to check
Nuxe has several variations, but this is their First one which smells like the oil.
CP points for Zoologist Elephant with its coconut and fig for another day of bike commuting. Now wearing Roma after my evening shower. Funny how much I like this old cheapie
I somehow didn’t realize it has those notes. Interesting.
Azemour les oranges today, followed by Liasons Dangerous his evening for the coconut note.
I’m pretending I’m at the beach today… SOTD is Smell Bent St Tropez Gold. Supposedly it’s a high-end version of St Tropez Dispenser, with real nitro musks etc. It’s smooth and rich and oh so sunscreen. Love it.
Bain de Soleil? Used to love that stuff.
Howdy perfume peeps! I’ve been MIA for a bit, just returned from the Covid Capitol, and fervently hoping I didn’t bring along any microscopic hangers-on!
I’m in Bengale Rouge today and smelling FINE!
Re: Split Meet peeps- if you haven’t heard from me, please drop me an email at the below address and let me know if you are still interested in participating. I’m hoping I reached everyone, but these days I really can’t trust myself. Sorry for the delay, and let me tell you, I will NEVER order from LuckyScent again. What a nightmare! ? especially when trying to sell and pack up a home in another state!
Hope all are healthy and well! Cheers!
Taiga101 in the land of yahooligans
You got done so that counts!
Ha! Still waiting to close. One thing I’ve learned is that the real estate world is just as inefficient as the medical world. ?
Hope you are well! Been missing you on Instagram…
House closings can be so disorganized; I’ve been there. I hope they get their act together soon so you can put it all behind you!
Oy! At least you can do that remotely! I will be back posting next week, I think.
Are you done with your house? And now back in NC?
Yes, got back to NC yesterday. Done with the house physically, but the closing was delayed a week because of the title company, will close next week. Then, stick a fork in me, I’m DONE!
I hope the last stage of selling the house goes smoothly!
Thanks, me too! I’m not good with unnecessarily complicated processes. Such a waste of time, but it’s everywhere these days. ?
Hi there, good to see you here.
Glad to hear the house business is almost done.
And you smell great!
Yay! Deva’s back!?
Thanks for that warm welcome! ? It’s good to “see” everyone again- so busy I haven’t even been reading recently..?
Ready to get back to “normal,” whatever that is these days!
Hey there! Good to see you back!
Hang in there, Deva. ?
Wrapped in a cloud of Bvlgari Au The Bleu shower gel and perfume, because Lillyjo mentioned it yesterday and also because it is so comforting to face the super hot and crazy working day I am having. I am so glad is already Thursday.
Have a healthy day, everyone!
If I ever see the shower gel, I’m buying it! I’ve been on a body products kick latley.
The shower gel is really good! Hope you have the chance to get it.
Me too! I was so good on my shower gel no-buy, then things fell apart; at least we smell great.
Plus I thought about you and your daughter a few days ago when I added some fun Morphe lipsticks and eyeshadow brushes to my cart. Had to really control myself!
I just got her the mirphe lip and cheek kit last week!
I’ve only ever seen the Bvlgari showergels online in my area. That’s OK… I seem to find plenty of other ones to enjoy. ?
In a drop of Mohur. I like it more in the summer.
Took the kids to the lake today and feeling really tired now. Can’t get myself out of the hammock to tackle the long to-do list
Lucky you, going to a lake!
There is a nice one only 25 minutes away – going there is definitely a highlight of our MI summers!
SOTD = Atelier Cologne Cedrat Enivrant
Because jalapeño wore it the last 2 days and it is one of my favorite from this line!
In other news, we now have one matched pair for the Bruno Fazzolari ScentBridge Samples Program!!! They know who they are and they are off to the races! If you’re interested in getting a customizable 3-sample set for $9 (including shipping), I will try to match you with an interested party who will get the exact same set for another $9. More information on the matching can be found in my post from this past weekend’s Lazy Weekend Poll around the 12:23pm Eastern mark. Because this is only good for July, I’ve asked for emails to be sent to me by tomorrow. I am actually going to extend it to this upcoming Sunday, July 12th so we can have more participation to increase the chance of a match. Also, everyone who participates, even if you end up not being matched, will be entered into a random drawing for a perfume thing (from my stash); definitely read the rules before participating. I think it’s a really good way to explore the line for a very reasonable cost.
Hiya scent twin! ?
Well, hello there! We smell fabulous!
I wore the last of my sample of Aqua Allegoria Coconut Fizz last, I’m not a fan of coconut notes, but wanted to join the party!
I’ve decided on 31 Rue Cambon for today.
Thanks for joining the party Gaynor!
Wearing Bronze Goddess creme, eau fraiche and a few sprays of the oil in the ends of my hair. Very trying day so far! Seems as though our supervisor was poached for another department.
But the good news is I made a hair appointment for next week and I also booked next week off for holidays!
Yay! I took some days off next week too!
Yay us! Enjoy your time off.
Happy for you, Lillyjo, you can rest your knee on those days off.
Hurray for hair appointments! I got brave yesterday and called to make one for later this month.
Yes! They have stringent protocols with cleaning before each client can enter the building; and we both have to mask up. I haven’t had a cut since November so I can’t wait!
Yep. Same thing with masks for me. And I will have to sign a waiver and have my temperature taken. The place I go to has installed a high tech air filtration system, and might even be using one of those UV-emitting robots after close of business.
We’re going camping on the 20th, are you going somewhere? I can’t be bothered with the Covid rigamarole, my hair is just going to stay ratty.
Not going too far. Just out of town for a few days to visit family mid-week.
SotD = Cologne du 68
Guerlain claims there are 68 notes in this cologne. I don’t think there is any coconut, pineapple, or rum. After typing those three words I’m wondering who will be indulging in a tropical drink or three tomorrow? It will be friYAY after all.
Hurray and happy birthday wishes for Tom Hanks and Dr. Oliver Sacks. I admire them both for their work and for their concern for other people. Sacks’ The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat is one of a very few books I can read over and over again. Forrest Gump had me sitting in a movie theater completely undone, the tears and sobs would not stop.
I need to watch a Hanks movie — what’s your favorite?
Maybe I’ll do Sleepless in Seattle, love the music in that one. It has one of my favorite soundtracks. I’ve been trying to work up the nerve to watch Cloud Atlas, but I’m not feeling up to a three hour story today.
Don’t know who needs to hear this, but I feel the need to say it —
wash your hands,
I love you.
You can’t go wrong with Sleepless in Seattle.
I love your last lines. Thanks!
Sleepless is a classic! makes me smile every time.
To me, that says you care. And that’s always good to hear. Thank you for saying it. Hugs —
right back at ya’, FearsMice!
The Money Pit. The scene where the bathtub goes thru the floor always makes me laugh so hard I cry. (If you’ve ever done a big remodel — especially if you’ve lived in the house DURING the big remodel — you will know that this film is a documentary, not just entertainment…)
ha! The Money Pit is hilarious. And Tom Hanks was SO young in that movie.
Forrest Gump is a classic. Besides that, other faves are Cast Away and The Post. And let’s not forget about The Money Pit!
Cast Away is so good and so hard for me to watch. The internal struggle is as big as the outward physical battle.
And The Post! that’s the one with Meryl Streep (who I also adore) and I don’t think I ever saw it. On the watch list it goes.
I love Tom Hanks in The Burbs!
Also Bachelor Party, lol.
I’m team funny Tom Hanks.
agree! funny Tom Hanks is so good, and Bachelor Party is a guilty pleasure.
I love Tom best in the TV sitcom Bosom Buddies.
“Big” is my favorite of his. He’s a straight up dude in a whacked out world. Props to him for maintaining his humble, grounded, caring self in the midst of all the glitter, fake glamour, and corruption of Hollywood.
exactly! I’ve watched a few of Tom’s recent interviews promoting his new film, and his comments on the state of things are lucid and thoughtful.
I’m also a big fan of Big, it’s a perfectly told story.
Those last three lines were muchly needed today! Danke schoen!
Gern geschehen, meine liebe!
Thanks for those last three lines.
you’re welcome, neyronrose!
We all need to hear your last three lines. Thanks so much, dear heart!
Late to the recommendation. I like You’ve Got Mail because there’s an edge to Hanks in it. Sometimes he’s too nice in movies. Volunteers is a funny one also.
I’m wearing “What would love do?” from Lush today. Hope everyone’s day is going as well as possible!
Everytime I see What would love do?
I want to rename it Everything I’ve done for love. Then I think of that song from Cats ??
I think of “I Would Do Anything For Love” by Meatloaf when I see that perfume name. Instant earworm.
Ha! Good association!
I looked up the music video and had fun reliving my early teens
I put on a bit of Shalimar (edt, I think, from a Nordie’s sample) before a going to a doctor’s appointment this morning. I keep thinking I should order a bottle of lemony-er Shalimar Cologne — but do I actually want the Cologne, or the Eau de Cologne? I get confused about which to choose and then inertia overtakes me.
Perolaise has a nice video review of different Shalimar
Thanks, Yasmina — I had to go watch that video! Long ago I had a sample of Shalimar Light, which I loved. (I envy Madame Persolaise her bottle of Eau Legere, sigh…) I haven’t tried the Eau de Cologne before, but it’s relatively inexpensive. Maybe a blind buy wouldn’t be so bad.
I love my cologne, I have an older bottle that is not very pretty but I adore it.
Happy day all! A few more samples down from the chocolate/confectionary haul. Arielle Shoshana Sunday was interesting, I liked the warm cooked rice note, but something else in it, mabey the matcha?, wasn’t as pleasing. Demeter chocolate chip cookie was fun. The chocolate in ganache chocolate wasted was a nice brownie scent, but went straight to baby powder. The winner so far though is the very Un-Chocolatey Serge Rahat Loukoum, really loving that almond/cherry note, so that’s going on the mabey list. Sigh, it’s always the most expensive/hardest to find ones that I like when it comes to Serge Lutens. More samples to go, mostly coffee or sweets of some sort. Will probably try and wear Bronze Goddess tomorrow for a break and to take part in this weeks theme. ?
I liked the rice and tea notes in Arielle Shoshana Sunday. I tend to go for green tea notes.
My friends and I have had fun trying Demeter fragrances, including Chocolate Chip Cookie.
I got a sample of SL Rahat Loukoum last year, and fell in love with that. I certainly don’t need a big bottle of it, but I’ll have to investigate whether I can get a small bottle or travel spray of it when life has gotten a little more “back to normal.”
SotD EldO Like This from a small sample. Somehow the combination of pumpkin and immortelle on me reads as fresh strawberries. I am not mad.
I’m veering towards sweeter scents this week for some reason – maybe in need of a little olfactive comfort.
But do you *like* Like This?
Another hot and sticky day here. A noisy one, too, since landscapers were removing dead shrubs in my neighborhood. So I heard chainsaws and a wood chipper for part of the afternoon.
SOTD = back in Cedrat Enivrant. It’s perfect right now.
CE is such a refreshing choice for this heat – you and H. smell really good!
Thanks! If the hot weather continues tomorrow, I will have a hard time sticking to the CP. But the latest forecast has change in it…
Thank you, FearsMice!
Twins! You inspired me!
We smell(ed) great today!
I’m late again today. Just various distractions and news stories to follow. You who are parents, or you who are teachers, I really feel for you in these difficult times where issues about kids’ return to school are so difficult and divisive. I’m extra glad to be retired now. SOTD is Mure et Musc because someone mentioned it recently. Very pleasant and summery. It’s always seemed quite light to me despite the musk.
Yes, we are dealing with this in NYC,
Politics and policies from people with egos as big as ?
Definitely empathizing with the teachers right now. I’m not sure how anyone can rationalize sending kids (common silent spreaders) who cannot/will not wear masks to schools to be taught my middle/older teachers (vulnerable population) that probably have co-morbidities. Just absolutely insane.
I also am very glad to be retired.
It rained for real today, probably for 2 hours!
Sotd is No.5 L’eau. I’m getting alot of lemon from it today.
None of that here! You smell nice!
the top notes in No. 5 L’eau are perfection. Chanel knows how to do citrus. You smell lovely.
This morning: The Naked Bee Coconut & Honey lotion. I don’t get a strong scent from it, but I find it pleasant.
This evening: Tried HdP 1804. I thought the top note was nice, but then it started smelling smoky to me. Appropriate enough for the cigar-smoking Georges Sand, but not my kind of thing. I think I liked the Casanova and Colette fragrances better.
I totally would have spritzed on some SL Un Bois Vanille. I love that one. I was thinking about what vanilla fragrances I have that had rum or coconut notes. Something for tomorrow, maybe.
I got candied pineapple and patchouli from HdP 1804. My testing notes called it an “Angel light” type perfume. Thankfully, no tobacco!
I wonder what mix of notes make me think of cigar or cigarette smoke with some fragrances. Maybe it’s patchouli + musk, or patchouli + a spice I interpret as bitter?
I’m also still wondering why I get what seems to me to be a “Play-Doh” sort of note with some fragrances. Maybe almond + musk, or fruit + a light musk, or fruit/white musk/powder? I know that that’s what came across to me in several Ormonde Jayne perfumes.
Oh, well. That’s about as deeply as I can think at this hour. lol!
Have a good night. I hope Friday and the weekend are days you get to hunker down and do relaxing and pleasant activities around the house.
