Wednesday scent of the day 7/8

Posted by Robin on 8 July 2020 201 Comments

Hump Day! What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: taking points in Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess.

Reminder: 7/10 is Piña Colada Day. Wear a perfume with pineapple, coconut, rum, or any combination of the three.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Smelling beachy in Berdoues Azur Riviera. Very appropriate for a day working outside with high temps and humidity.

    Happy Wednesday!

It is almost impossible to breath, especially wearing a mask all the time, like in my case.

When I walked the mile home yesterday in the late afternoon, I was a swampy, sweaty mess. Looking at the dew point today, it seems just as awful.

      Good morning L2SM!
I love polka dots! I have a few scarves with various patterns, mostly dots.
I haven’t smelled it but am thinking of ordering a decant.

I love scarves also!….besides this one I just bought a floral one, that looks like it could be from the 60’s. I am thinking of of wrapping it around my hair. Maybe I need bell bottoms to match.

          Bell bottoms would be adorable!
My two favorite scarves are a repurposed sari converted to a scarf, in bright orange with gold and lime green accents. The other is an old silk scarf from the Gap, with poppy-red daisy pattern. I don’t feel I ever tie it correctly but the attempt is what matters. :)

Your scarf sounds fun, and you should definitely use some scarves as head wraps, or as we did in my day, put a square scarf folded into a triangle on your head and tie it in back of your neck. Use one as a belt, tie it on a handbag, add a vintage brooch! Seriously, I’ve sold 8 scarves on Poshmark in the last week (and bought 3, hmm.)
I didn’t know there’s an orange version of Shalimar!

I live scarves too and so does my 67 year old neck. I have a lovely little orange box of cards from Hermès each with a picture of ways to fold a scarf that was given to me with a scarf purchase. I’m happy to pop in the mail to you. You can email me at Vivienne.elliott1 in the land of outlook.

Thanks, everyone, for your kind and encouraging words about my recovery (Monday SOTD). I had an encouraging follow-up visit yesterday with my surgeon, which has helped my mood enormously.

Have followed PriscillaE’s lead from Monday and am smelling very good indeed in Histoires de Parfums 1804. My husband said, “oh, that smells good” as soon as I sprayed it. Let’s see how it develops on me…enjoying it so far!

Hot and humid here, too. I went for my required daily walk at 8 a.m. and almost gave up on it. Will have to go out by 7 tomorrow morning if I’m going to manage at all.

I haven’t tried every fig of course but Laudamiel says he uses an aromachemical that is usually deemed too pricy but makes the fig accord strong and very long lasting. And it really does smell like fig for hours.

I admire everyone that walks despite the humidity. One of the reasons I love California. We just have fog right now, but has been hot past few days.
I used to wait until close to midnight to go out and walk on our compound in Saudi due to extreme heat and humidity in Jeddah.
Something light yet comforting today for work ay my home office.
    Maybe a spritz of Ta’if
My workshop on zoom went really well! And everyone loved the gray hair!

I had untreated plantar fasciitis for a couple of years, and didn’t even like to get up and walk around because of the pain. Then I went to a podiatrist, who treated the fasciitis with hydrotherapy, and electrotherapy, and had me wear a splint at night to keep my foot in place. It was cured in maybe six weeks(?) — less than two months. Wearing shoes with the proper support has helped also, and if I start to have pain again, I can put on the splint for a couple of nights. I highly recommend seeing a good podiatrist.

I went to a podiatrist years ago, when the pain first flared up, and she gave me inserts that made my back hurt so badly I literally couldn’t sleep (like I slept for maybe an hour each night for a week). I’m sure a better podiatrist would yield different results :) but I’m still pretty scarred from the experience. But I’m so glad your pain was fixed!

Lovely, refreshing shower. Mixed the L’Occitane Green Tea body lotion with unscented, spritzed on some of the matching body spray and topped it off with Jasmin Perle du Thé.

My Fitbit recorded that I got fewer than 6 hrs sleep. I woke up terribly early, Agnes joined me on the bed for some petting but I gave up on going back to sleep. Hoping a CoQ10 supplement keeps me going.

The CP keeps reminding me of the trip I made with a friend to Bermuda in my 20s. We drank Piña Coladas every chance we got. Not realizing the more traditional drink would have been a rum swizzle. Such a fun time…riding scooters, falling asleep on the beach and realizing that men in Bermuda shorts and blazers are very attractive.

The last drink I ever had with alcohol in it was a Pina Colada at The Bitter End Yacht Club at Virgin Gorda, BVI in 1984.
They made them with ice cream. All I remember is laying on the cool tile floor of the restaurant.
I never had a drink again or anything with coconut.
I will have some fresh pineapple for a snack later!

I got to go to Bermuda when I was 18 for an invitational gymnastics college meet! (When you want to break in a new gymnastics floor fast and your athletes are mostly teeny kids, you invite college gymnasts over to play).

A lot of the teams were Division I/II schools with athletes on full or partial athletic scholarships so they took their training and competing VERY seriously and had curfews, etc.

My Division III (no athletic scholarships) team rented scooters and drove all over the island and indulged in many rum swizzles and piña coladas.

Our coach had said (optimist, the poor man) “let’s try to keep the team all-around score within 30 points of the next highest score!” We definitely came in last by a much larger margin than that, but we had a lot of fun!

Hello! Joining many others this week in Bronze Goddess. I’ve been wanting to give it a try. (Thanks for the opportunity, KellyC! :) ) Just one spray on my arm was enough for me to smell it plainly. It did remind me of suntan lotion. :) I like it, though. Sometime when I’m going to be away from the house for a while, I’ll be able to wear it for more than a small amount of time.

I ran out of coconut water (oh, noes!). But I made a couple of bottles of tea, so I’m good for things to drink. I’ll try that Celestial Seasonings Country Peach herbal tea when it’s been refrigerated for a while. It smelled good when I was brewing it. :)

Yes, I’ve got Raspberry Zinger, too. :) I think I liked it better hot, but I’ll have to experiment with the amount of sweetener I put in it to see if that changes how I feel about an iced tea version. It turned out that I had a couple of boxes of assorted fruit flavors of Celestial Seasonings herbal teas, and I think I have separate boxes that are just Raspberry Zinger and just Lemon Zinger.

I had surgery 10 days ago and I’m just starting to feel like myself again. It has been unseasonably cold in Portland, in contrast to the rest of the USA, my furnace came on this morning and I’ve been wearing a jacket outdoors. I think I’ll wear Virgin Island Water this morning and think my way into warmer weather.

Hello friends, not following the CP at all in Parisienne this morning! The fiance told me last week that he had a bright and early surprise for me for today that involved driving somewhere about 10 miles away. I figured out through context clues that it was probably some kind of food picking (my guesses: oysters! strawberries! clams! peaches?), and so this morning, we went…berry picking!!! The farm had Obsidian, Marion, Ollalie, and Boysenberries, and because we went so early, it wasn’t crowded and scarily full of people. I’m not sure how many of us had no children with us, but we couldn’t have been numerous. Anyway, we came home with about four pounds of berries, and once home, we munched on one of each. They are incredible! Sweet, juicy, flavorful. I can’t wait to eat more. The morning was all the more fun because it was a surprise mystery present.

Anyway, that’s why I put on Parisienne this morning, to keep blackberries close to my skin :)

What fun. I love berries too. I know people enjoy them in pies, muffins, etc. but I really prefer them plain to get all the glory of the unadulterated flavor.

I have the best memory of driving down a little dirt lane in northern Indiana where an Amish farm had posted a sign on the road, “Berries for Sale.” Mom was with me as she knew them. (Neighbors.) An Amish woman and her young daughter were picking raspberries and an adorable small boy was stuffing his face. He had blond hair in a bowl haircut and a little pair of overalls with a blue shirt. Barefoot. I don’t idealize the Amish, but he was utterly beautiful. And his hands and little face were all completely stained purple! How I longed to take his picture, but they don’t want that. It’s a picture in my mind though, still.

Indeed they were! The family would come in their horse-drawn cart down the road to Mom’s house and pick up all of her fallen apples. Mom never used many of them and there were so many on the ground, it was a nuisance. They would gather them and make cider and bring her several bottles. It was sweet. The mother was also very beautiful.

    SOTD = Mugler Angel Muse

    Yes, I used 8 sprays ?

I’ve mentioned the Bruno Fazzolari Sample Set program for the past few days because I think it’s a great deal for someone who wants to try more of this line. I’m not affiliated and I checked with Robin first before embarking on this community service. I am happy to note that we now have one pair (???) and I will email them tonight!

Here’s how it works, in short. Essentially, for $9 (which includes shipping), you get a customizable 3-sample set and a 2nd person (for another $9) gets the exact same set. If interested, go to the Lazy Weekend Poll from this past Saturday; my post is around the 12:23pm Eastern time stamp. Offer is good for July and I offered to match pairs of people. Please email me by July 10 to be included in the matching.

*** New *** As an added “incentive”, everyone who participates will get a chance to be in a random draw of a never tested perfume something that I somehow have two of so I am giving one away. Even if you end up not being matched, you still qualify. Please remember that by emailing me with your 4 sample choices and you end up being matched, you are committed to working with your pair-partner to come to a mutually agreed upon conclusion (I’m not involved once the match is done).

Rain overnight, woke up to a steamy 81% humidity. Hot and muggy. So glad we went to the lavender farm yesterday when it wasn’t so bad. Made some lavender scones, ate them with peach lavender jam. :-) yum!

Wearing VCA Bois d’Iris, which is lovely but zero sillage. I’m not exaggerating when I say I put on 25 sprays and can barely get a whiff. I think I’m going to start wearing this to bed to use it up.

I agree with you on the longevity and sillage of Bois d’Iris. I have to soak on it to barely smell it and it is gone in minutes. My 10ml decant was gone in just days. I will spray on the last drops tonight and I am not expecting to replace it. Beautiful and enjoyable for the brief time it lasted.

Late for no good reason today!
Day off, and I started out in Viva la Juicy Noir. Now I’m in Chloe Love Story eau Sensuelle.
It rained for all of one minute today, of course while I was driving. Better chances of real rain tomorrow. My air conditioner really needs a break from running so much.

ha! same for me, late for no reason other than my brain is a little scrambled, but that’s ok sometimes. ;)

We had rain and hail on Monday. Today, it was lightning and thunder and a few minutes downpour. We need to rain but it did not cool down after the downpour.

Robin, you might find this funny. I posted the link about yesterday’s chocolate teapot somewhere else, and at least 3 of my friends replied with “Take My Money!” emojis. The only way this story could get better is if one of them actually takes the plunge, and buys said teapot. ?

I’ve been keeping a wary eye to the sky today. The sky is looking kind of sketchy. It felt super muggy and grody early on, so I went grocery shopping before lunchtime. Easy trip, and people were masked up, and social distancing. One person in the parking lot told me “You can take the mask off now!” I just shook my head and said “Not yet.” I don’t take off the mask until I am inside my vehicle. This was before I had learned that my governor had issued a mandatory “Wear masks outside if you can’t social distance” order earlier today. ?

SOTD = back in Cedrat Enivrant. It’s one of two scents I strongly associate with Hajusuuri: the other one is No. 19 EdP, of course. ?

We are the same here with the masks. Although it’s not being enforced. I just wish people would wear them correctly!

    SotD Jorum Studios Nectary.

The weather forecast today said “20% chance of rain” which inevitably meant “½ hour deluge in the middle of the afternoon and then sun” ?

So it feels like a bain marie in the apartment, but on the bright side the dough for this week’s pizza (pepperoni with fresh oregano and basil) rose in record time!

I am in Jacobo #8 today. I thought it had some coconut but no, it doesn’t. Still nice though. Hot hot hot here.

Not a pineapple or coconut in sight, still simply perfect for summer. :D
