Friday! (Also, International Plastic Bag Free Day, plus a bunch of author birthdays: Franz Kafka, MFK Fisher, Tom Stoppard, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Rohinton Mistry, Dave Barry.) Our community project for today: wear a perfume with ylang ylang, if you have one.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in Diptyque Eau Moheli. I suspect I will have many siblings today.
Reminder: 7/10 is Piña Colada Day. Wear a perfume with pineapple, coconut, rum, or any combination of the three.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Ciao a tutti (hello everyone)
Samsara, a dab of the parfum and a spray of the natural spray
?
Thrift store find , Isaac Mizrahi pink and white toile pants and a T-shirt
Smelling blissful!
The pants sound fabulous! I love toile anything.
Me too!
I forgot to answer your question on the damage Donatella poll, I bought Shalimar cologne(, an old bottle) and a ODV flanker for my birthday
Almost twins, since I am in the modern EDP.
Oh how adorable! I love the outfit!
You smell lovely!
Pink and white toile! Fabulous. As is the Samsara.
I will wear red white and blue this weekend, wish I had blue and white toile pants ?
So, I think the only fragrance I have with ylang ylang, at least as a listed note, is Sel de Vetiver. SdV it will be! 🙂 Although, I have a hospital appt. today and I usually don’t wear anything before doctor/hospital appts. Maybe 1/2 a squirt. 🙂 Hot and humid for the forecast in SW Ohio today!!! Have a great weekend! Be safe.
Hot and humid for the Philly area too! Hope the hospital appt goes well.
I’m in a healthy spritz of Guerlain Terracotta Voile d’Ete. Pure summer warmth: spiky carnation and dreamy ylang on a bed of plush vanilla. Just about the most perfect thing of its kind imaginable. It’s hypnotic.
That sounds perfect.
Wow that sounds gorgeous. Wish my original one had carnation.
Hi all!
I didn’t do ylang ylang today by any stretch. I went with Iunx’s Talc, an educated blind but that I absolutely fell for when it arrived. Shimmering orris and dry jasmine rice over a sensual ambrette base. A bit like Hiris meets No. 18. Apparently the Iunx line is being discontinued, so I thought I’d try on I always wanted to try!
I also got a sample of l’Ether which reminded me of a stripped-down Theorema. I haven’t tried them side by side but I definitely got the same vibe.
Have a great day all and be safe.
Ooooh, that sounds nice!
Me three.
Of course I immediately thought of you! They do come in a 2x 20ml size.
Did you have shipped from Iunx?
I bought it from Nose in France, but there’s a US retailer too. Their prices are higher though, even if you account for shipping.
Thanks!
Yes it does!
A+ iris
It really is lovely and has a bit better longevity than most irises!
Oh those both sound nice! I have an ancient lunx sample kicking around, and don’t even know what it is. Should probably try it soon.
I really like the few I’ve tried but only the two I mentioned are worth the price to me.
Actually Eau Sento is nice too. Smokey vetiver cedar. ?
Where did you find Iunx Talc? Thanks
Nose in Paris, but there’s a store in the US that has them, Alder and Co. Even with international delivery Nose had a better price though.
No perfume, just ylang ylang essential oil in the diffuser. Very uplifting and feminine.
Nice!
Good morning! SOTD is Amouage Lyric Woman. I’m wearing the last of my sample while tracking the 100 ml bottle due for delivery today!
On my skin, Lyric Woman is a plush, warm, soft, rich, creamy, spicy (as in, baking spices), dreamy ylang ylang. Mmmmmmmm, so beautiful. This is all about the ylang ylang and not at all a rose fragrance for me. I actually did not like Lyric when I first sampled it several years ago, because I was expecting and seeking a big, spicy rose, and was not open to the custardy ylang ylang. Once I gave it a fair chance, I realized what I’d been missing out on all this time.
Lyric is described as a rose fragrance, so I’m interested if anyone here experiences it like I do, as primarily ylang ylang.
I love tracking deliveries. Enjoy your new bottle!
Me, too! The only excitement in my life at the moment.
Lyric is so beautiful- I smell rose and ylang
I smelled finely blended rose in the opening from my new spray bottle, but all ylang ylang in the dry down. Beautiful either way.
Dottie, it is possible that the Lyric you smelled in the past was different than it is today, too. There were reformulation rumors going around a few years ago, although I haven’t had a chance to do a side-by-side.
To my nose, my older bottle of Lyric is definitely a rose scent, but I’m not sure I know ylang ylang as a soloflore, so I might be struggling to pick it out of the floral noise.
Oh no! The sample I’m wearing now (and on which I based my new purchase) is the same sample vial from years ago. I hope the new bottle is not different. :-/
Oh, I hope so, too! I’ve never had a chance to confirm the rumors, so it’s entirely possible that’s all they were. Please do report back. ?
Based on some quick googling, looks like the rumored reformulation was around 2012 and people said the rose was lightened in favor of the ylang ylang. My sample is from 2014 and ylang ylang heavy, so chances are the new bottle matches. Thanks for bringing this up!
Gosh, that long ago?! Now I feel perfumista old.
Enjoy your FB!
Thank you!
I have an older bottle of Lyric. I don’t know what the newer version smells like but I have a newer bottle of Ubar and Beloved with the magnetic cap. I love the magnetic caps for some reason, easily amused, I guess. It’s always fun to get a new bottle in the mail.
Ha, magnetic caps are the best. One reason I love opening the Chanel and Dior exclusives. 🙂
Three best words – out for delivery. Enjoy your new bottle!
Indeed! 🙂
Congrats on your FB! Lyric is wonderful, I have it in edp and parfum.
Thanks! It’s here and perfect. I did detect some finely blended rose in the opening, but the ylang ylang takes over fully in the dry down. Perhaps the difference between a big spray and a dab/pour from the sample bottle.
Yay for your new bottle! Enjoy!
Woke up in Deneuve extrait. Since I am going to work and it’s going to be hot, I am in Kyoto.
You smell so good. Stay cool!
I’m in Olivine Atelier Gigi perfume oil which does have ylang and lots of other yummy smelling stuff.
We should have been headed north right now but our weekend plans came to a grinding halt last evening when my daughter got a text from her friend who she’s spent time with that said friend’s roommate has tested positive for covid. It’s probably six degrees of separation but we decided to err on the side of caution and not potentially expose my 70 something parents. Instead we were up early and went through the drive through testing that is offered here. As long as I was driving her I figured I might as well get tested too. I highly doubt either of us are positive, but better safe than sorry. Guess our 4th of July will be spent quietly at home after all.
Oh, that’s a bummer! I hope everything works out and you enjoy your quiet weekend at home.
Yeah, it is a bummer?but with everything going on, my hometown had cancelled the parade anyway, which is my favorite part. The beaches will still be there at the end of the month when I have vacation.
Oh my! Hope the results are negative. Enjoy your weekend at home!
Thanks pl67! I hope so too, she feels fine, we just wanted to be sure.?
Crossing my fingers for you both!
My county is on the upswing again, and I find myself getting more and more nervous being out, especially at work.
I hope you get to enjoy being at home.
Thanks lillyjo! I’ll cross my fingers that you stay healthy too!?
We will try to make the best of this untraditional fourth, I’m already planning out our menu and what ‘80’s movie we will watch in the evening…I’m thinking Top Gun.??
Sounds great to me!
The testing is very odd, in our floor, in our apartment building alone , we have two sets of couples that both wives have tested positive but their spouse and kids are all negative. Even though both wives were not socially distancing from their husband if you know what I mean ??
Haha, yes I know exactly what you mean.? We’ve seen similar things with patients, spouses who test negative and also people who test positive and have absolutely NO symptoms. I’m really interested in all the research that will come out of this, especially in the area I practice.
Sorry madtowngirl, and fingers crossed!
Thanks Robin!
Hope all goes well! And even though it’s difficult, erring on the side of caution is the best way these days.
I agree. I would feel just sick if I exposed my parents when it could have been avoided. We will FaceTime instead.?
Oh gosh, how disappointing! Erring on the side of caution is the best way to go.
I’ve got ribs marinating, jalapeno corn bread, and potato salad in production mode – I’m sending you BBQ goodies (virtually) your way.
Oooh, that all sounds so delicious! My mom makes great ribs, we always laugh when we have them remembering when my college daughter was little- must have been about 5- and stopped eating dead in her tracks and seriously asked “wait. Am I eating people bones?”?
Homemade potato salad is definitely on the menu!
Wow. 😯 what a quote of the day “Am I eating people bones?” ?
Sorry for the wrench in your plans, but very glad you got the text in a timely way. Hoping for negative results!
Me too! Thanks!
Sorry about your cancelled trip, but it sounds like you are going to make the most of the holiday.
Thanks Aurora, we will try and make the best of it. It’s supposed to be sunny all weekend, so that is a plus!?
Well that’s a bummer, but I’m sure you’ll have a nice weekend anyway. As you say the beaches will still be there!
Yep! And the water will be even warmer for swimming in a few weeks.
Oh my goodness, that’s disappointing! I hope your test results are negative. Will you be able to do any kayaking this weekend?
I hope so! We’ll have to go early though, it’s supposed to be a scorcher here this weekend.
That’s sad, hope the tests are okay.
Thanks tannina, I hope so too.?
Oh no! Good thing you got that text when you did, and were able to get tested. Fingers crossed you both get negative results.
Good luck with the test results — I think you were wise not to risk exposing your parents. Have a lovely weekend!
Smelling heavenly In my double dose of Ylang Ylang: For my shower Pre de Provence Ylang Ylang soap and post shower Chanel No.5 extract de parfum.
Quiet long holiday weekend at home watching TV, cooking, resting, cleaning and running some errands. I am ok with it. Super hot day with rain expected later. Homemade frozen lemonade to the rescue and a very cold beer later tonight.
Happy Friday, everyone!
No 5! Forgot about that one
Can’t believe I’m saying this, but jealous of your expected rain. Have a great weekend! We are house twins ?
Thank you! Hope my rain goes your way soon! ??
There was a chance of pop-up thunderstorms for me this afternoon, but they seem to have held off. Here’s hoping they don’t arrive in the middle of the night! ⚡
There were thunderstorms in the afternoon thru the evening. The rain did not help with the humidity, unfortunately.
I don’t need much of an excuse to wear a few spritzes of vintage Chanel No. 5 edc, so I will happily participate in the CP today, although to be honest, I’m not sure which of the notes I’m smelling is the ylang ylang. No. 5 edc is so well-blended, I barely discern indvidual notes, in any case! I know it’s jasmine and rose, too, but I never experience as either of those.
Close enough!
Not an ylang guy here. Wearing Terrasse a St. Germain instead.
I swapped for a bit of that one. It’s marvelous. You smell great today!
I spritzed some Chanel No. 5 EDT and a lot of No. 5 L’Eau in the morning, but after running errands and doing shopping in the afternoon I needed a shower (the temperature is about 90 F). So now I am in Samsara EDP enjoying a cold beer and air conditioning.
Samsara, cold beer and AC sounds perfect- enjoy!
Thank you for inspiring me to wear Samsara!
?
Ditto!
Have you tried the No 5 L’eau shower gel? Wonderfully refreshing on a hot day.
No, but it sounds fabulous!
I showered with Lush Sex Bomb sg, which is also very refeshing and has ylang.
I have it and it is wonderful. I wonder if the package size is bigger now? The one I have is quite tiny with a high price tag.
Noms, an ice cold beer (and thank goodness for a/c), is the way to go.
That sounds delightful!
I tried LL Ylang 49 at bedtime last night – it’s one of those scents where I love smelling them but that don’t suit me to wear and that I’d rather have as a candle or something. SOTM is Nanadebary Bronze, which does suit me and is perfect for the cool, misty morning we have here.
I have perfumes like that, too – like SL Feminite du Bois. I just use them as house sprays.
I might try a light spritz on the bedsheets with the bit of sample I have left. Could be nice!
SOTD: Aqua Vitae Forte, my only ylang-ylang scent and one I really enjoy.
Ah, Friday… just taking it easy after an evening of carb overload and too much Mystery Science Theater 3000 (for the birthday boy :))
How fun, love MST3k!!
Love MST3K! We are hoping our local brick oven pizza place finishes their outdoor patio refurbishment soon.
Patsy’s, where we got our pizza, has created outdoor seating. I don’t think they’ve actually gotten approval for this as it’s under building construction – not pleasant dining – but they’re doing it anyway.
SoTD Chanel 31 Rue Cambon EdT for today’s CP.
This is a true love of mine.
Many many thanks to Hajusuuri for her donation program that allowed me to get a decant!
Happy Friday all,
Happy Fourth of July!
You smell wonderful ?
Thank you ringthing!
It is a stunner!
Do you prefer the EDT to the EDP? Or vice versa?
I’m wearing Smell Bent Pepper Ylang.
That sounds intriguing!
Chanel No 5 body powder, lovely on a hot day. Enjoy your weekend everyone!
I really should invest in the No.5 body products.
I stumbled across this at an estate sale! The body oil sounds wonderful, if I get a windfall I might get a bottle.
Celebrating Ylang Ylang day by wearing Chanel No 5 EDP. Having a very late breakfast today because I slept late. I stayed up watching Unsolved Mysteries. Scary stuff !
My breakfast tea will be just plain old Lipton black and breakfast is English muffin with butter and rose jam.
Happy Friday ! Happy 4th of July weekend !!
Your breakfast sounds lovely! I need to figure out how to make rose jam.
Happy 4th to those who celebrate, and happy Friday! I had a difficult time deciding which scent, to chose. Final list is Chanel’s No. 5, Coco Mademoiselle, Caron’s Nocturne’s, Tom Ford’s Black Orchid, Desprez’s Bal a Versailles. Such indecision! But such as life as a Gemini!!
That said, my SOTD is Caron’s Nocturne, it’s a beautiful yellow/floral. I’ll apply Tom Ford’s Black Orchid later when the Caron wears off.
We’re making some goodies for tomorrow. BBQ ribs (dry rub applied), jalapeno corn bread, and potato salad. 🙂
Sounds ? yummy, I will be right over with my plate and forks
Come on over!
My favorite recipe for tater salad is using red creamer potatoes, leaving the skin on, using eggs, sweet relish, and adding crispy pancetta (or bacon) on top to finish.
I drizzle the potatoes with vinegar and added a sprinkle of salt and pepper while still warm; pre-seasoning gives the salad more flavor.
I also do a Russian Beet-potato salad.. As you can tell, I do love my root vegetables!
For a refreshing iced tea, I brewed a huge vat of Rosehip, hibiscus, & Cherry tea (by Ahmad tea co.), and added a splash of mango juice. Pretty addictive combination!
All of those eats sound great! ?
The ylangiest thing in my cabinet is Amaranthine, so that’s what I chose. I have the day off and it’s a deeply foggy, stay-in-your-jammies kind of morning here. So, just having a lazy morning with my son, who just sniffed loudly from the couch and announced, “That one smells really good!”
Aw, nice son!
Your son is right… that one does smell really good! ?
I was all set for ylang, but then I couldn’t help but reach for No. 19 (thanks Annie!). Was feeling a need for more green (it’s definitely my cowbell) So after awhile I added some spritzes of Aliage.
Maybe later I’ll throw on Samsara or Aloha Tiare. Probably the latter, since it would probably blend better with the earlier scents.
Waiting for our letter carrier to show up today. My replacement glasses from Warby Parker were delivered on Monday. Nowhere to be found. But…they had the wrong apartment on the package. An empty apartment, might I add. I’m hoping it was put in her box and is just sitting there.
Oh, you know I’m down for No. 19 and Aliage! Gorgeous!
I loved Aliage when I smelled it
Hah! Victory! The daughter of the other apartment owner and the mailman showed up at the same time. And, yes, my glasses were in the box. Mystery solved.
Yay!!
Thank goodness!
LOL. I saw a blurb on the book Mexican Gothic so thought I’d put on reserve at library for electronic book. #255 in line for 2 copies, so should only be 8 years. Best laugh I’ve had in awhile.
Did you stay in green perfumes, or end up in ylang after all?
I thought I’d read earlier this week that Van Cleef & Arpels Orchidee Vanille had some ylang, so wearing it this morning as I glamourously do the laundry.
That is a glamorous, beautiful scent for laundry. Why not?
Participating in Guy Laroche Fidji, I am finishing my bottle this we, I have a vintage back-up which smells even better than this oldish but not quite vintage bottle. Enjoy July 4th everyone in the USA.
You smell great!
Thank you Apsara, enjoy the mani-pedi, and I bet you’ll smell great too in Paris-Deauville.
Glad to hear that you have a backup of Fidji. It’s almost a signature for you.
True, I go back to it again again, especially in the summer, how lovely of you to have noticed it.
EldO Vierges et Toreros, which has some ylang ylang although its definitely not the focus (that being tuberose and leather). But my skin loves this scent best in hot weather and it’s hot!
I found out this perfume was discontinued recently and I’m super sad, but still have 85% of my current bottle at least, and a few ideas of more unusual floral-leather-weirdness fragrances that may also scratch the same itch (Bandit, T-Rex).
I didn’t know it was discontinued either. And now wonder what else…
Slept 10 hours no alarm clock today.
Been drinking my coffee and emailing back and forth with my sister.
Going to put on my mask and go get a mani pedi for the first time since March?
It’s a beautiful SoCal day. I hope people aren’t stupid.
Will watch Hamilton later as my treat.
Post shower maybe Paris Deauville.
Wow, 10 hours! That sounds lovely.
Enjoy your mani pedi! I had a pedi yesterday and it felt soooo good and now my toes look pretty again.?
I hope that your mani pedi was an enjoyable break from routine.
Wearing the beautifully indolic Enlèvement au Sérail today. It’s mainly jasmine but it does have some ylang ylang and it’s a great sultry perfume for a summer’s day.
I’m being as literal as possible for the CP… SOTD is Perris Monte Carlo Ylang Ylang Nosy Be.
We have sun! And running water! Life is good 🙂
Yay!!
Running water is such a wonderful luxury. I’m glad it’s back!
I’m your twin in the Perris Monte Carlo!
I was going to wear Ylang 49 but I’m not feeling it today, instead going for the breezy Danze delle Libellule. Happy Friday!
Also, PSA, Potion Naturals is having their 50% off sale thru 7/31. Code is PPC82B, http://www.potionnaturals.com.
I got that email too. Alot was already sold out.
I’m wearing Chanel No.5 L’eau. I’m also wearing a knee brace. I don’t know what happened but about 2 months ago, my left knee started to hurt, more than the usual. Now, it’s getting to the point of me avoiding stairs and bending if I can help it. I can’t go to the doctor because I’m in the middle of an insurance fiasco, so I don’t technically have insurance. I’m hoping to have it straightened out this month.
Oh, you poor thing, maybe also rubbing in some Icy Hot. Hope the brace will do the trick. You smell cool and collected in l’Eau.
I smell much better than I look, which is hot and sweaty, lol
Urgh
Strongs!???
?
Oh no! I hope you recover soon. I’m your perfume twin today. We smell great!
We do!
Cooling helps a lot. Hope it gets better soon
Thank you!
That’s miserable , both the pain and the insurance.
The insurance issue is really causing me alot of stress.
Oh no! I hope you feel better soon, Lillyjo. Sending healing vibes. ??☀️
Thanks!
Ouch! And here you are back at work and in pain. I hope you get both straightened out and really best not to be walking much since you are compensating. Do you have a cane? That may help some.
I don’t have a cane. The brace did help today somewhat. The last hour I asked to be the door/people counter, so I could sit.
I hope the insurance issue is settled quickly and your knee feels better.
Thanks Petunia!
Oh no! I hope your knee feels better! I feel you on insurance pains, hope that gets straightened out too!
Thanks!
Knee pain sucks… been there myself. I hope that yours gets dealt with soon.
If you can get some stuff called Bio-Freeze, it works really well to calm down sore knees (and other body parts!). A chiropractor recommended it to me ages ago.
Is that something you can get over the counter?
I think so, but I’m not sure. It’s been a long time since I used Bio-Freeze.
I’m in Reminiscence Musc, my one purchase from last quarter. Carefully applied, since I’m making a double batch of dog biscuits for the Wild One.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful Friday, and can make a plan for something wonderful this holiday weekend!
You smell lovely! I have a decant of that one. Where did you find a bottle? I’ve only seen them on eBay.
Yep, got it on eBay! If you run out of your decant, hit me up – I’ve got plenty of it. ?
No point today,I think?
Pour un homme de Caron,my SOTD!
THANK YOU everyone for the kind wishes on my birthday last weekend!
Happy 4th July weekend US friends!
XO
No pointS,Lol…NOT feeling THAT gloomy today, surprise!Haha!
Winter is almost over, and that makes me happy.???
I’m glad you are feeling better this weekend!
Happy birthday for last weekend. Our winter seems to be just kicking in and it always seems a bit of a slog until the middle of August. But the wattles are now in flower so that’s a good sign.
Ciao bello!
I hope your treated yourself to something beautiful for your birthday
Happy Birthday! ????❤?You smell great!
I emailed you last week. Hope everything is fine with you! Sending hugs!
Belated happy birthday!
I missed your birthday so here’s a belated Happy Birthday ? ? ??
Happy belated! Hope it was fun.
I missed it too, happy belated birthday!?
I went grocery shopping early this morning in Dzongkha, then after a shower switched to No. 5 L’Eau. Smelling great as I curse while applying for jobs. I managed to spell my own name wrong – thank goodness I’m an obsessive proof reader!
You smell nice and I would have spewed coffee if I was in the midst of drinking it. I’ve heard of cases where candidates were angry because they failed the background check because, you got it, wrong self-service entries. Great that you recovered!
You smell great! Are you relocating far?
Yikes! Glad you caught that typo!
Hi twin! I hope you get a super great job!
I thought of Terracotta, but instead chose Mitsouko, which has a ylang note that I can barely smell.
I biked to work and back today, 44km in all, but it was glorious weather and I have a ebike. Still took more than 2hours of cycling. Now I have earned my dinner and a glass of Ricard on ice.
My sister is thinking of getting an e-bike. Worth it? Sounds like a nice commute.
If you have lots of hills like her in the Stuttgart region, it makes cycling much more fun. And you can commute without getting too sweaty, that’s a plus. I don’t bike regularly, but when the weather is nice, it’s good to get out more.
I thought of Mitsouko when I bit into a peach today
Wearing two tiny smears of Manoumalia on one arm and two sprays of Lyric on the other.
I must confess I was not sure Lyric had Ylang in it as Fragrantica does not include it in the notes list. I’m smelling rose for sure but also something creamy and tropical, so maybe that is the Ylang. I will wait for the dry down to see if it becomes more pronounced. It surely blooms in the heat, this one. It’s gorgeous!
I’m also surprised not to find Manoumalia challenging anymore. I think I’ve referred to it in the past as a combination of attractive and repulsive but I find nothing even remotely repulsive in it today. Granted, I’ve applied just a tiny amount because all I have is about 1/2 mL left on the bottom of a small Luckyscent sample from years ago.
Wishing you all a great weekend!
Ah, Manoumalia, such a wonderful scent. I didn’t like it at first and then fell for it, very completely. I got a bottle ages ago, and don’t wear it often, but there is nothing else like it, and nothing smell tropical in quite the way that Manoumalia does.
I thought of you when I wore this today and remembered how much you like it.
Enjoy your weekend Austenfan!
Interesting comments about Lyric… my sample is all roses and musk to my nose. Maybe it’s an older one?
SotD = Chanel No. 5 EdP
because why not? 🙂 and because a well orchestrated floral perfume always makes my heart go pitter patter.
MFK Fisher! Her stories make me smile. I love The Boss Dog which is set in Aix-en-Provence. Makes it a perfect armchair travel book.
Happy friYAY, fragranced friends. I’m so glad it’s the weekend.
You smell great!
I remember reading her Two Towns in Provence and The Art of Eating a long time ago. I will seek The Boss Dog now. Have a pleasant 4th of July weekend!
Those are both wonderful books. Thank you for the reminder ?
Happy 4th to you!
Happy belated! Hope it was fun.
??
Wearing a perfume that makes your heart sing is a fantastic way to kick off a holiday weekend. ?
☺️ wonderful holiday wishes to you, Jalapeno!
I’ve really liked the week of blue flowers for each post. Noontide Petals while waiting for sunrise. It’s going to be another cold day.
Stay warm
Belatedly popping by on a Saturday morning to share the fact that I’m doing the morning housework in a dab of Dusita’s Erawan. Thinking nostalgically of visiting there last year – it seems more unreal than ever now.
Hot and humid today… Typical July weather! ?? We prepped some pork shoulder earlier this afternoon for the smoker tomorrow, so that’s going to be our big 4th of July thing this year. ?
SOTD = Guerlain Mahora EdP, from the decant stash. I had a sneaking suspicion that I was going to end up in one of two Guerlains today, and I did.
Hot and humid twins!?? I have decided over the past couple of years that pork is my favorite meat…bacon, carnitas, pork chops, pork roast.?I just love it all!
Pork is definitely the winner for “What goes on the smoker” here. ? But I think my favorite protein for fajitas is chicken. ? And shrimp are a much enjoyed splurge here. ?
Will you be having guests? Smoked pork shoulder sounds really good!
No guests, and sadly, no pork shoulder today. The smoker is well and truly kaput, so Mr. Jalapeno had to get a new smoker this morning. We will try again tomorrow. Not enough time today to cook the meat properly.
Ah, I don’t miss hot and humid, the benefit of having left New York City (weirdly, I’m still glad I experienced summer in Manhattan) for Europe. Hoping you will have good weather tomorrow, how organized about the pork shoulder, enjoy it.
I am enjoying more nice summer weather today, Aurora! Thanks! ??
I love Ylang-Ylang. I treated myself with a splash of nuit de Noel as it was a cold July day. Strangely nostalgic as a pub in my home town does Christmas in July as the landlord loves it so much. I do love mitsouko for Y-Y as well.
Am considering buying another Y-Y heavy scent soon.
SOTD is Chanel 1957 thanks to the generosity of hajusuuri. I took my mother out for lunch. She is prone to migraines so I needed a stealth scent. 1957 was perfect.
Love 1957, you smell lovely! Hope it was a nice lunch for the two of you.
Nice to see you post Petunia!
Lunch with mom sounds like a great day!
Thanks everyone. It was fun to read your comments and catch up. I hope everyone is well.
Mom and I went to fun little cafe with outdoor seating. It’s in the middle of nowhere and the food is great. It’s about as safe as we can be these days and very relaxing.
Good to see you, Petunia! When I was looking for BdI the other day, 1957 was the one I pulled out to get to BdI. I will wear it next week … despite no pineapple.
It is cool, rainy and windy here in Scotland so I searched out my bottle of EL Amber Ylang Ylang. I have had this bottle for over 10 years and the juice is now very dark. Sprayed slightly nervously and it started off quite flat, but 10 minutes in it is lovely and mellow as it should be. More of a winter scent but enjoying it. Love Ylang as a note and the thread has given me some ideas…..
My bottle is quite dark too but smells beautiful after that initial flatness. I wonder what top notes we lost? It matters not, I enjoy it and find it quite lovely.
SOTD = Yin and Ylang
Woot! So nice! I thing I, like many, was in theme all week! Hooray!
Happy 4th to everyone! I was going to post a proposal but will wait until tomorrow. Now, I have a date with TurboTax!
Hmmm…I’m curious about this proposal now.? Good luck with your taxes!
I’m still procrastinating…
Did you save “ylangiest” for last?
Actually, it was the first one I thought of and decided that given its name, I would save it for today. I was actually quite surprised that Ylang is in many perfumes!
Post-shower I’ll go with a spritz of vintage Ysatis. Very surprised no-one’s mentioned it. It has a beautiful custardy note of ylang. Always makes me smile. ?
Absolutely beautiful!
Yes!
In I ❤️ YY from when Scent Bar opened its NY location. Sort of wonder when I’ll be able to go perfume sniffing again. Kind of hard to do in a mask
Late today and sampling Earth Mother oil which is quite nice..wondering if I need more…the eternal question which keeps me up some nights…??
The continued hot, sultry weather – with no end in sight – and today’s cp made my SOTD choice an easy one: Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Ylang & Vanille. I think I bought this on my one and only trip to Paris a long time ago, a surprising choice for me. Except for an occasional jasmine or gardenia fragrance, I generally dislike wearing white floral or tropical scents. But this one is quite pleasant, soft and a bit sweet and I’m enjoying it today.
I’m also finding it calming as well, when the combination of weather (I hate hot, humid), the scary uptick in my country’s Covid-19 cases, and my growing tiredness at living so much of my life ‘virtually’ has me rather stressed. This will be the quietest Fourth of July I’ve ever known, everything we normally do has been cancelled, and it’s way too hot for me to sit outside and ‘socially distant’ for more than a short period of time. But my family is well and safe and that’s what’s important right now.
Stay safe, stay well, stay hopeful!
Posting late today! Multiple spritzes of Tom Ford Lys Fume which just has the most magnificent Ylang note! Made my own Ylang lotion and wore that most of the week. Nothing fancy, just a good essential oil mixed with unscented lotion.
Friday SOTD with ylang ylang: vintage Dioressence edt. Aaaaah.
Lovely!
