It's the last Friday in June already! Our community project for today: wear a perfume by Une Nuit Nomade, Ulrich Lang, Vilhelm Parfumerie or Vero Profumo if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letters U or V.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I am not overwhelmed with choice for this community project, but I am smelling great in Vilhelm Parfumerie Don't Tell Jasmine.
Reminder: on 7/3, wear a perfume with ylang ylang, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Happy Friday everyone!
Vilhelm Parfumerie Basilico & Fellini for credit points. The only perfume in my collection (incl samples!) that qualifies.
This one is bright and cheerful and reminds me of a sunny weekend I spent in London visiting a friend.
Nice reminder.☺️
In Vilhelm One Lilac a Day. Hoarding what it is left of my second and last sample. The best lilac perfume I have smelled so far. Full bottle worth.
Sipping a frozen homemade lemonade and having a fruit salad. So refreshing on this super hot day. Not complaining though!
Happy Friday, everyone!
dreaming of frozen lemonade now
And I’m dreaming of fruit salad!
Sharing a bowl with you! ??????
You can come over! ??????
That’s a great perfume name!
Very pretty indeed!
That lemonade sounds delicious!
Sending you some! ??
Got to smell that in Liberty in London a couple of years ago. Not cheap, and the exchange rate was extra-brutal, so it did not go home with me. It isn’t available anywhere in Canada, is it? Just in case I have another austere (non)spending month and want to splash out…
As far as I know Vilhelm is a US brand (despite the scandinavian sounding name) so perhaps a retailer in the US ships to Canada?
Here in the US I know that Aedes Perfumery sells it. I don’t know if they ship to Canada
Glad to hear it’s available in the US (I think they’re based in Zurich?) – will keep that in mind!
Today was definitely a good day for a frozen treat!
Frozen treats need to be handy this weekend. It is going to be super hot here ????
Happy Friday! Cannot believe it is almost July.
Trying a brand that is new to me thanks to Undina! The brand is Nishane and the scent is Suede et Safran which is really quite lovely. It’s a leather scent, more of a buttery suede, with an interesting sweetness to it which I read is the ambrette seed. Wears very close to the skin and can def see wearing this year-round. Really beautiful!
I tried beautiful Nishane Patchuli Kozha from a sample that some kindly perfume fairy godmother passed on. Loved it. Balked at the price. The trend I am noticing is that perfumes become more expensive rather than less so.
It is an expensive brand. It’s too bad. I wonder if it is due to the cost of the materials as it’s clear this is made with high-quality ingredients.
It barely feels like June yet! You would think time would be moving slower but it feels like the opposite.
Thanks for the rich description. I have Nishane’s Ani. Big swoon and zilch regrets. Too many other regrets to count (t.j.s comes to mind, back up bottles that don’t get used, )
I got nuthin’ over here for the CP. I swapped away my Onda a few years back (I mean, it was a great perfume, but it swung me around like the Hulk did to Loki), and my tiny sample of Rubj – gorgeous – is long, long gone.
So, I went with Voyage d’Hermes. JCE for the win this bright summer morning.
I haven’t smelled that one, but JCE does summer right.
Yep.
Loving that Hulk vs Loki comment!
Not a smallish brand, but have 2 from VC & A, California Reverie and an ebay-acquired vintage bottle of First. First it is! Good summer scent.
Close enough!
No CP today, but I’;m wearing La Fille de Berlin for the first time, from a full bottle I bought unsniffed last month.
overjoyed or perfumista’s regrets?
Unsniffed is brave in my book, how do you like it?
Wow, you not only bought unsniffed but you waited a month to try? You are double brave!
Do you like it?
The thing is that on my skin, it is not the powerhouse that I expected. It went on moderately strong, but 3.5 hours later it is just a pleasant, not even rosy, scent. Voleur de Roses goes on much stronger, and lasts longer on my skin. I won’t get rid of La Fille, but I might over spray next time.
It is similar to VdR?
Butting in to say that I don’t find them similar at all. PriscillaE might have a totally different experience than I did.
I don’t find them similar either.
Not participating, should I do a haiku in Italian for points?
I am wearing my Queen today, Shalimar Vanille flanker
My wedding anniversary is this weekend, not much to do to celebrate. I will make an Aperol spritz
Happy Anniversary to you!
Happy anniversary!
Have a wonderful anniversary weekend! Will you wear Beige?
Yes, maybe later on today. Sunday is our wedding anniversary and today is our mendhi ceremony. Though we didn’t have an Indian wedding we kept some culture elements.
Happy Anniversary! ?
Happy anniversary!
Happy anniversary, and yes, we want the haiku!
Happy Anniversary LTSG!
Happy anniversary!
Happy Anniversary!
Happy anniversary!! And enjoy the Aperol Spritz. Yum.
Happy Anniversary! And many more to come ?
Happy Anniversary!
Ha! I read “aerosol spritz”. Happy Anniversary and enjoy the Aperol Spritz!
Congratulations?!
Happy Anniversary L2SG! And many returns!
Happy Anniversary, Lovestosmellgood! Maybe you can grace us with an anniversary haiku also?
Happy anniversary ltsg! Enjoy the weekend with your beloved.
Quick PSA
AA Flora Cherrysia is on fragrance net right now.
There are some D.S. & Durga at the discounters too!
What is this AA..is it good? Do I need to go look?
It was part of the summer releases for last summer, I think. Along with ginger picante and coconut fizz. I haven’t smelled any of them, but figured I’d mention it, since they sell out pretty quickly when they do pop up.
Ginger picante was very nice ??
Participating in spirit with a house that starts with V – wearing my VC&A Bois d’Iris. Yay Friday. I must accomplish Great Things this weekend.
You smell wonderful, best of luck on your Great Things!
Good luck on your Great Things
You smell fabulous. Good luck with the great things!
Vilhelm Parfumerie will be available in Poland as of Monday. Any hits from this brand I should put my nose on? (I think not all will be sold in Poland but ok)
A tinee tiny credic for me for Van Cleef & Arpels Bois d’Iris.
You smell lovely!
I tried a handful of Vilhelm’s and my top two were Modest Mimosa and Dear Polly.
I was looking at Modest Mimosa as I’m mimosa fan
That one is very pretty. It reminded me *a bit* of Apres l’Ondee, must have been the violet.
Oh! That’s a solid recommendation. Apres l’Ondee is a love.
Scent twins! with our teeny tiny credit!
We smell good, though 🙂
A Lilac a Day is my favorite from what I have tried from Vilhelm Parfumerie so far.
Is it a realistic lilac? I would like to have one I loved…but my favorite Lilac scent at the moment is Mrs. Meyers Lilac dish soap… 😉
That is exactly the soap I’m using currently. I like it but prefer Peony.
I would like to know the answer to your question about Lilac as well.
As I said on my SOTD above, it is the best lilac perfume I have tried so far. Very realistic to my nose. Beautiful and very long lasting on my skin.
Thanks! Good to know…
Really enjoy basilico & fellini if you appreciate fig.
My favorite was Morning Chess.
Une Nuit Nomade Fleur des Fleurs, and being an ylang scent it fits the next week CP too. It is a lovely tropical floral perfume but very very fleeting. It becomes a skin scent almost immediately and does not even last half an hour. I need to put on something else.
Wow, that is quick!
Not participating in the CP today. Wearing vintage no 5 edt. Just made the marinade for saurbraten and about to pour it over the roast and pop it in the fridge. That will either be Sunday or Monday’s dinner.
Omg, I’m salivating.?that sounds so good!
It is pretty easy to make but it needs 48 hours or more to marinade. Just got to get ginger snaps for the gravy and figure out a side dish.
I’m giving you partial credit for the V (for Vintage)!
Excellent way to retrofit the CP!
Oh, I love sauerbraten. In ger8there is a special Lebkuchen for the sauce to make it sweeter, I think ginger snaps are a good surrogate.
My mother and grandmother added gingersnaps.
Ooooh sauerbraten.
YUM sauerbraten! ?
Sadly I passed on my Vilhelm discovery set so I have nothing for the cp. I did really like Modest Mimosa and Dear Polly. I think Vilhelm comes up with some clever names.
I’m in Le Lion from Chanel. My little decant was waiting for me when I got home from work last night. I’m not that good at describing perfume notes because I tend to use adjectives, but I’ll try to give my first impression. To my nose it is Shalimar-esque. I get bergamot in the opening and a slightly powdery amber. As it settles in, the powder becomes more pronounced. Definitely more amber than vanilla (again, to my nose) and there is the slightest hint of something burnt, but not in a bad way. I couldn’t smell the leather at all until I did a comparison with Shalimar on the back of one hand and Le Lion on the back of the other and then yes, sure enough there it was. My verdict is people who like Shalimar will either like it because it is similar or they won’t because they are devoted Shalimar fans and will see this as an inferior similar take on the notes. I also think if you don’t like Shalimar, you probably won’t like this, as it is quite powdery. Again, I am no expert and certainly no perfume reviewer, but this is my initial hot take.?
Interesting. I’ve been waiting for some first impressions on the new Chanel. Thank you so much for this mini review Madtowngirl!
You’re welcome, I’m looking forward to when the real reviewers review it, lol.
Wow, very interesting because doubt Shalimar sells much to younger generations.
I doubt it too, is this one marketed to younger generations? I suppose all new releases are…
Well, no, it’s in the Les Exclusifs — so in general, being marketed as luxury — and right now it is being marketed to the Middle East.
I just learned an interesting fact today from a statistician. She is finding that younger people are more interested in having a traditional family life with a stay at home parent, more self sufficiency, and less consumerism and desire for stuff. Maybe their taste in perfume will shift too. As for me, I have voile de violet, that half counts.
Oooooo wow, thanks for taking away all my interest in sniffing this one!
Oh no Koyel!?Lol, sorry! You should still try it! I know you love Galop and the leather note, once I found it, reminded me of Galop a little bit.
Hahaha 🙂 True, I do love that. Ok, I guess I’m still curious then, but it’s not at the top of my list of things to try!
Ditto!! No Shalimar love here (sorry LTSG).
oh springpansy! I am offended 😉 🙂
On that note, I am going to spray another 10 sprays and see if you can smell me across the country 😉
Lol – spray away – I will enjoy your sillage. I just don’t like it on me.
You sound like a perfume reviewer to me! Thanks for your take on the frag.
Thanks!?
I like Shalimar but don’t love it. I do love Chanel though. I’m looking forward to trying this.
I don’t dislike Shalimar, but I don’t feel the need to own it. I’m more of a Chanel girl too, that Guerlainade just doesn’t work for me, but most Chanel’s do.
Did you dab or did you spray? (add a tune and repeat)
Thanks for the review! It sounds like a nice perfume. Other than if cumin is a note mentioned, every time I hear New Chanel Les Exclusifs, my heart goes pitter potter and my greedy hands want it and want it now. But, I haven’t heard from my UAE connection so will have to sit on my hands for now. I want my first impression to come directly from a bottle.
I sprayed, and I reapplied a couple hours later. Although it is a rich fragrance, it seems to wear close to the skin.(maybe I need 8 sprays?). Several hours in, the powder has gone away and it’s just a lovely amber. I think you’re gonna like it!
CP adjacent SOTD Unum Opus 1144, rich floral with vanilla underneath. I love this, and the only reason I haven’t bought a FB is because the bottle is so ugly. But, I am thunking my sample of this, and my collection will feel incomplete without it. I am hoping it has not been discontinued or otherwise become unavailable.
You all smell lovely today!
Beautiful image today, Robin!
Several of the rose images this week were from that photographer, who clearly cares about roses!
Wearing Vero Onda EDP, eight healthy squirts. Lovely. So if everybody at the grocery store is wearing their masks, as proscribed by law, they shall not be overwhelmed.
?
We are house and spritz twins!
I was channeling you whilst spritzing! You smell heavenly!
Haha!
As noted earlier, I have nothing for CP. so, I went shopping in my sample bowl that sits atop my cabinet.
Decided to try the sample Kyse sent me with my scent from yesterday. This one is Sérénade au Fraises. Immediate blast of strawberry, but that settled a bit. I’m not a big fruity gourmand person, but this is enjoyable for now. It’s from a dabber, which sometimes is fainter on me. This seems to wear very close. I may continue to dab through the day.
enjoy your dabbing!
Strawberry, interesting!
I haven’t followed the CP at all this week (if I am honest, I haven’t followed any of them much over the course of quarantine), but I smell lovely in Cap Neroli, thanks to an extremely kind NSTer. I’ve been curious about this one for ages, thanks to the accolades it’s garnered on NST. It is great, and it gets the Fiance Stamp of Approval (a rare thing indeed), but it is not my favorite OB. (And yes, though it’s called Cap Neroli, it smells predominantly of orange blossom on my skin.) If a bottle of this fell into my lap, I’d wear it happily, but I’d rather a bottle of, say, Histoire d’Orangers fell into my lap.
You guys, I made a sourdough whole wheat grain loaf yesterday. I mention it only because even though it didn’t rise as much as I had hoped (my starter has been sluggish lately), the flavor was INCREDIBLE. (We may accidentally have eaten the whole loaf in one day, that’s how good it was.) It reminded me of all the $10 loaves I’ve bought at farmers’ markets in CA and France. If you like chewy sour flavorful grain loaves, definitely try it: https://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/clays-multigrain-sourdough-sandwich-bread-recipe
I wasn’t impressed with Cap Neroli either. Nice enough but not distinctive, I thought. But then again, orange blossom is not a huge love of mine.
Ah, but I adored I, see ?. I love to layer it with Néroli Intense.
I adored it not I stupid autocorrect…
In that case I will give it a few more tries ? I have a small sample from Luckyscent but it will be enough.
I adore orange blossom. And while I love the two Nicolaïs, my favourite OB is Sweet Redemption.
King Arthur has such good recipes!
Yes, I’ve been loving their recipes. Clearly written and they give great results!
Ooooo – sounds delicious, thank you for the bread recipe. I’m a baker from maaaany years ago – not just a new COVID baker – but I’m always happy to have new bread (and other) recipes!
I’d never been comfortable with yeast–either store-bought or home-grown–until the pandemic. I’d made real bread only a dozen or so times before this. Usually, I’d stick to quick breads and desserts. I’m glad to have expanded my baking horizons now 🙂
love: accidentally — haha!
Just in case you didn’t know this: Starters love rye flour. In fact, my starter doesn’t really perform at all unless it’s fed with rye flour.
I did know, but thank you for the reminder 🙂 I don’t actually have any rye, and my starter has historically been quite energetic. I give it some irregular combination of whole wheat and white. If I ever do get my hands on rye, though, I’ll definitely give it some of that to jumpstart those little critters.
I think I have a lazy starter. Without rye, it does nothing – and rye flour is pricey! Maybe I need to re-start the starter?
Hmm, maybe your indoors are too clean? When I started mine, I took it out on daily walks to the backyard. Even now, I keep them near a window that is open for much of the day.
Mine has been sluggish because I haven’t been discarding properly. So I need to get back in the habit of doing that.
I wish my indoors were too clean 🙂 🙂 🙂
Cap Neroli is a good scent for summer or anytime. I need to wear it someday soon.
I admire your baking. 😉 My family could eat that whole loaf in one sitting, looks seriously delicious!
I’ve really depended on KA recipes during the last three months. When flour and yeast are hard to find, reliable recipes are vital! Have you seen any of the videos by Martin Philip? He really knows his stuff.
Wearing La Fin d’un Été again. I’ve got nothing for the CP. I used to have a bottle of Mito but swapped it. Beautiful but In the end not my cup of tea.
I’ve loved all this week’s photos of roses as much as last week’s peonies. Thank you Robin!
I will wear Magnolias tomorrow, thanks for reminding me of the other Bourdon gem.
Wearing Rozy by Vero Profumo. Such a loss for perfumery when she passed. If I was rich I’d buy this line and resurrect it.
Twins if you’re in the edp version
8:40 AM and over 50 comments already. Hellooooo sniffies!
Joining in on the CP today.
I’m in Naja, which I should recoil from based on the notes. Nope. To me it is one of those scents that smells vaguely like clean clothing that’s been drying in a field in the sun.
I must share with you the ridiculous figure I cut at the moment. I am sitting at my desk, NST up on one screen, a writing project on the other, a cup of coffee on my left, and my feet tucked in neatly below my desk in a broiling pan filled with ice water.
Ah!!?why ice water?!
Stooopid plantar fasciitis.
Oh owwwwie, I have pf, too. It’s under control right now, but it flares up sometimes. I had arch supports custom made in 1997, and I still have to use them on occasion.
I hope you feel better soon!
We are scent twins! I hope you PF gets better!
You smell lovely and I hope the ice water helps!!
I hope your feet feel better soon!
Yuck. Plantar fasicitis sucks.
Spelling unsure on PF!
I’m sampling Vilhelm’s Dear Polly. My sample is not that fresh but I’m not loving it – getting much more musk (almost oud?) than tea or apple.
Maybe I’ll switch to something else later. Happy Friday, so glad it’s here!
Hmm…I wonder if the sample is mislabeled? I don’t remember Oud in it.
That’s totally possible! I’m also not the best at identifying individual notes 🙂
Wearing a sample of Tauer Fruitchouli Flash. It reminds me of Mauboussin, with something reminiscent of…scalp, which sounds and is odd, but not unpleasant.
Yeah, that is not calling out to me 😉
No little U or V in my cabinet, so I’m wearing big V, Van Cleef & Arpels California Reverie. I have to make an appt at the optometrist to replace the glasses I lost, I’m wearing an old pair in the meantime. They were prescription, not readers, so there goes next month’s perfume budget. Maybe I should start wearing them around my neck like those lady librarians in ’50s movies.
Deva, on my walk there is a white dog that looks like T. S/he sleeps on the blacktop driveway and looks at me sleepily when I go by.
You smell beautiful. I’m sorry about your glasses!
Has anything grown on your neighbour’s lawn yet? I am surprised that no one has invented locator beacons that come fitted in glasses
I do have some Vero samples and one Vilhelm sample.
Very hectic two days. Had to have a medical check 300 km from where I live. First time of crossing the border since the pandemic. It was good to see some different scenery, even though it was from my car.
SOTD is Fleur des Comores by MPG which I grabbed in a hurry this morning. I love this one so much. One of my best blind buys ever. It’s a lot like Vanilia from L’Artisan only not quite as sweet and more floral. It always hits the spot.
Oh, wow! You had to travel that far for a medical exam. Is the new job start approaching?
I hope you get some rest this weekend ?
Yep, one of the perks of getting a job with in international organisation.
That’s quite a distance for a checkup. Hope it all was well.
It probably was. I hope the blood was ok. You never know at 52.
I also love Fleur des Comores! You smell wonderful!
I owe you an enabler pin for my blind buy of Songes. What a great perfume, like sunshine lighting my winter’s day
That is great news. I didn’t love it first time I smelled it, but now it’s such a favourite. I love wearing it in summer, but in winter it is a wonderful pick me up.
Hey all!
1) Am in a combo of Prim Botanicals Body Oil and BeautyPie’s Petals Heliotrope and Ambrette perfume. As I noticed before, BP’s fragrances perform nicely in warm weather and project more; in cooler weather they become more of a skin scent within an hour. And Prim Botanicals Body Oil smells wonderful, with a spicy jasmine/rose/bergamot scent. I smell like the vacation that I won’t get to have this year.
2) Speaking of which, I am gonna buy proper lounge chairs and wifi speaker for the backyard patio. Since no Rogue River this year, gonna sun out on the backyard.
3) The nasturtiums seemed to have won their battle against my peas. No worries- I have harvested bowls and bowls of peas AND have had flowers for salads! The roses are VERY happy- I have been deadheading and they are sending up even more sprays of flowers.
How are you?
I love Beauty Pie’s perfumes! My favorite is the Brazilian Lime, Fig Lead and Tea. Making a note to look into Prim Botanicals…
I hope your backyard oasis turns out beautifully.
I think that one is really lovely- a perfect bright scent. I have that one as well.
I am really trying!
My nasturtiums lost a battle against squirrels. Which is funny because the Internet says squirrels don’t even like nasturtiums.
Good for you on #2. I rafted the Rogue many moons ago….beautiful.
Lots of outdoor lounging and play stuff being sold right now with folks staying home this summer. I think it’s a nice change. Sounds like you have much beauty around your property to enjoy.
Oh yes- like there are no true sale prices because it’s all in demand. Which is nice, really- people should enjoy their back yards!
And yes- I have the flowers (nasturiums, hydrangeas, roses and flowering herbs) the grapevines and berries, and the veggies to enjoy looking at. I am very lucky.
The only V I had would be Vivienne Westwood Anglomania, but it was much too hot. I lavishly sprayed Batucada for a holiday feeling. Now wearing Ninfeo Mio.
Went for a small walk with the boyfriend, he is really much better now. And I finished a yellow denim skirt which I plan to wear as a neutral with all my blue and striped t-shirts. A nice pop of color for summer.
I’m so happy for you that he is doing better!
I’m picturing you walking along in a jaunty yellow and blue outfit, and it makes me smile!
I’m so happy to hear he’s well enough to walk with you! Must be your cooking…
Yay for boyfriend feeling better!
Good news on the boyfriend front! And I love to wear blue and yellow combos in the summer – either with a sea or sunny citrus themed fragrance.
Great news, I’m happy for you both!
Ninfeo Mio is a great summer scent.
Debating among Hermes’ Un Jardin fragrances for today’s CP — not a small house, of course, but I can’t think of any others I have that start with U! Any recommendations as to which one I should wear? I have and like them all so fire away!
How about all the Jardin Series?
I’m participating today in Sofia Vergara, Sofia. It counts! Really, lol.
For some reason the YouTube fragrance crowd thinks this smells like Coco Mademoiselle. It does not. I like it though.
Funny kid story- my daughter went to cut a piece of cake, and her dad says ” that’s a pretty big piece, isn’t it?”
She puts it on the plate and says ” it’s ok, I will just cut it in half ” and took both pieces. ?
I took away one of pieces but thought that was some quick thinking on her part!
Smart kid like her mom!
I like the way she is thinking..
That’s very clever.
Oh and off your topic, I finally caved and bought Shalimar Soufflé d’Oranger because of the bottle. I kept looking for it on Fragrancenet but nope, so I finally ordered a bottle from Amazon and I’m supposed to get on ? ?? day.
Omg! I never thought to look on Amazon! Probably since I’ve only just started venturing out with my online ordering due to the lockdowns. I’m off to look. Let me know how you like it!
LOL, your daughter is a clever scamp! ?
Gotta love that kid! Clever!
I contemplated Victorinox Snowflower (big V company, but small in perfume offerings) for CP points
…but I blind-traded my bottle of EldO Fat Electrician yesterday (after 3 wears it felt like it didn’t fit me quite right) – and I’m so happy with the new bottle that I wanted to wear it again!
It’s Rosarium by Angela Ciampagna. I often find incense frags TOO churchy and dry, but this one has a more unusual orris-celery-seed-violet thing going on that gives a very cool, vegetal, living quality to the perfume.
Neither incense nor orris are usually faves for me when dominant, but somehow this combo is perfect!
Happy Friday!
That sounds lovely.
Oh wow, I’ve never heard of that but it sounds fantastic.
Completely new house to me as well! Someone had offered the bottle on FB marketplace and when I looked up the composition it sounded interesting enough to try swapping for. Definitely would love to sample more of her work now!
SOTD = Vero Profumo Naja
Full credit.
Clean sweet linden tobacco. No melon to my nose and I really don’t know what osmanthus smells like. ?
To be perfectly honest, I was afraid of Vero Perfumes – very intellectual and complex. In the end, I ended up liking / loving Mito (don’t ask which version because I don’t remember) and Naja (don’t ask which version because it doesn’t say on the packaging / bottle). I wanted to post a picture of the bottle and packaging because they are very nice but I couldn’t get a good picture … will try again for next time.
In other news, maybe I’ll finally get to make banana pudding this weekend. And I really have to tackle my tax returns; I heard there may be another extension and you better believe I will wait until the bitter end.
I be right over for that pudding.
Yum. I hope no banana fail this time!
Ugh, you just reminded me I still have to file my city taxes. Maybe I will wait till the bitter end too!
Wow, you have to file City? I have Federal, NY Non-Resident and NJ Resident. I remember New York City was a separate Schedule in the NY state form.
Yes, and I only ever have to pay city, It’s ridiculous. Since I already pay them with my property tax. This is why I wait so long.
And Sales Tax …
Have you tried Magnolia Bakery’s banana pudding? The recipe is online and it’s hands down the best. Great, now I want some.
Yes, it was a once a quarter treat! I will check out the recipe!
You’re in good company! I keep putting off my taxes also.
And banana pudding is a real treat! With Nilla Wafers? YUM.
I get partial points I hope in Neela Vermeire Ashoka. I just have a small sample which I’d forgotten but now I’m really enjoying it. It’s a delicate smooth fig with a strong coconut/milk aspect and I feel as if there’s a nice spice in it, like cinnamon, though it’s not listed. I guess it’s just a good sandalwood. I’m having some of my leek/asparagus/feta frittata that I made last night cold for my late breakfast this morning. I made it with four of the duck eggs I got with my co-op order today. It’s pretty tasty!
Hope you are feeling a bit better today, Calypso. You seemed really upset earlier this week.
Glad to see another Fleur des Comores fan. It’s such a gem.
Thank you. I’m feeling a bit better since the governor finally admitted his errror and is scaling things back, and the county judge has announced we’re now at the Red Alert stage, and enforcing mask use in all businesses. Yesterday Houston reached 100% of ICU capacity. People are starting to wake up and pay attention. I can control my own risky behaviors but just worry so much about others in more vulnerable positions. I appreciate your concern.
It even hit Dutch news yesterday. Fingers crossed that measures will work.
Did you file this under N, V or A? Your answer will determine how much credit you get ?.
I love duck eggs although I think I’ve ever only had them salted and hard boiled. The yolks are particularly rich and tasty.
In the V’s! As my librarian mother would have done!
Full Credit!
I really like Ashoka. It’s the only fig I love.
Duck eggs are SO GOOD
Yes they are, and seriously, this frittata is even better cold!
Your frittata sounds so yummy!
I’m wearing yesterday’s Cartier XI L’Heure Perdue. It’s quite long-lasting without ever being loud, and simply a delight to wear.
Colognoisseur has this insightful review:
https://colognoisseur.com/new-perfume-review-cartier-xi-lheure-perdue-embracing-the-synthetic/
I found a sample of Une Nuit Nomade Jardins De Misfah I had been gifted and am wearing that today.I love the honey and rosewater note in it,not sure if I’m getting the date note or not.Not a strong gourmand scent which is good for hot weather
That sounds really appealing.
SOTD is St. Claire Eve. OMG another stunning beauty.
Yes it is! It’s become my favorite of hers!
she has given me my mojo back.
Vilhelm Veek concludes with Dear Polly, my favorite Vilhelm scent. Black tea, bergamot, musk. You’d think that black tea + bergamot would give you Earl Grey, but it doesn’t, on me anyway. I get tea + pucker-up citrus. Nice.
Where’s Regina?? I was sure we would be twins 🙂
I have not tried that one and sounds like I should.
When I get the chance, I’ll put on a bit of Vilhelm A Lilac a Day.
Another very pretty rose picture. 🙂
We did a quick afternoon trip to Longwood today…more crowded than I expected and looked like they were expecting bigger crowds tomorrow (they were setting up the extra field parking). So nice to see the flowers though, and we spent a long time in the (uncrowded) veg garden, stealing ideas.
Most people were wearing masks where they should be and trying to maintain distance. Not everybody was following the directional arrows.
Hey Robin and others, forgive me if this has been posted elsewhere and I missed it. But, in case folks didn’t know, it was announced last night that the founder of The Perfume House has passed away. . . https://www.oregonlive.com/business/2020/06/the-founder-of-portlands-perfume-house-has-died-leaving-a-legacy-of-class-charm-and-kindness.html
He sounds like a wonderful man.
Yes, I posted it this morning but glad you posted it here too.
I had to go do all the errands for the week today (I prefer to just have all the stress at once so I can be relaxed in my house the rest of the week). When I woke up my husband muttered in his sleep “You need your armor of peace”, so that was what I wanted today. My armor of peace is Dzongkha.
I hope everyone is well, safe, healthy and as happy as possible.
That’s an amazing thing for someone to say in their sleep! Great choice!
Seriously it is! I am amazed.
???
Just got an email that Francesca Bianchi has a new perfume out – Sticky Fingers. If it has the FB base, which smells like warm not clean body to me (sorry not sorry to those that enjoy her work), I probably won’t like it.
But —
Coriander, cinnamon, iris butter, patchouli, sandalwood, heliotrope, musk, castoreum, leather, tobacco, tonka bean
What’s not to love?
???
With those notes, it could be fabulous. Or it could be a totally hot mess.
I think the only thing that my go south given these notes is the castoreum. I am more worried about the bianchinade.
Heh I was going to say that the castoreum could definitely contribute to the unclean body odor that you mentioned. You can wait until it arrives in the US and order a sample from Indigo to be safe. They have a one-up on most other perfume shops because their 1ml samples come in 2.5ml spray bottles.
Nothing for the CP today, I had a discovery set of Vilhelm a while back but nothing caught my attention given the price point. I’m wearing Nicolaï L’Eau Corail for a dose of mango.
I like that one, I wore it to bed the other night.
I’ve got a hair appointment this morning, and will join the CP in Mito EdP.
I dithered for years over a FB but, when I read that Vero Kern had died, I immediately ordered it from Luckyscent. It felt vaguely ghoulish to pounce so quickly, but I am so glad to have a bottle.
That was very smart of you. I wish I’d done the same. I loved Mito very much.
For CP, I spritzed on Vero’s Kiki voile d’extrait when I woke up (for the 3rd time) in the middle of the night. It’s the finest lavender I’ve tried, and the caramel is a quiet hug. Today, I’m in California Reverie from VCA, from a decant. This is full bottle worthy. Nothing groundbreaking, just exquisitely pretty and long lasting. Have a good Friday, all!
The smaller bottles are super cute but they ar never available (in other scents) when I was in a buying mood.
This comment is for VC&A.
I didn’t know VC&A had smaller botles! I have full bottles of Bois d’Iris and Gardenia Petale, and bought a couple of reasonably priced decants from Fragrancenet (no affiliation).
I think I’m going to spring for a fb of the Reverie anyway because it’s so beautiful. I’ve used up most of this decant in a month.
They are 45 ml. The standard size is 75.
I thought I’d have tons of twins in Trayee, but you guys actually are so much better equipped than that 🙂 !
Trayee reminds me of a trip to Portland that I took last fall to meet up with a friend. I sniffed it Fumerie and loved it. I like all of the Vermeire scents – but many of them also seem pretty similar to my nose (at least in this hot weather).
We are finally admitting defeat in our summer travel plans to Europe as airfares are appearing and then vanishing and another travel ban might be looming. I’ve been map browsing airbnb (anyone else do that?) to see where we might go for a bit instead.
Sorry about the summer plans!
Bit grey and chilly and I am half-thinking I might go to the movies this afternoon as the theatre reopened this week. I am tempted to see The Trip/Greece. I am pretty sure it will be like the other Trip movies but it sounds preferable to a real life trip to the supermarket followed by vacuuming. Also, mid-afternoon movies are always empty and I love being alone in a dark theatre. Bois de Vanille so far
Wow, wonder if theaters are open here? I am jealous, can’t imagine we’ll be going to movies this year.
Anyone know what happened to Vilhelm Dirty Velvet? Wore it today…looked at the Vilhelm site and see that every single note listed is different than when it was released (and I reviewed it). I was going to buy a small bottle but am now afraid….
I wore this yesterday from a travel spray I bought in 2018 (Barneys). Smelled like creamy fig to me; sillage was average but then I am smelling me in an enclosed space so I couldn’t really tell. I can still smell it though 10 hours later on my walk outside.
P.S. I just read your review and LOLd
For today’s cp I have none of the brands listed but am hoping for partial points for a cheap thrill I bought a few years ago on clearance – Ulta’s Cocoa Rose cologne spray. Top notes are bergamot and hyacinth followed by rose, muguet, jasmine and iris on a base of chocolate, patchouli and musk. The opening is a bit harsh but the hyacinth is quite nice; it’s now settled into a nice mix of rose with other floral notes, looking forward to the sultry base which hasn’t arrived yet. For a cologne, this scent is quite strong and long-lasting, definitely worth whatever few bucks I paid for it.
Ventured out from my Covid-19 hidey-hole for a much-needed haircut this morning but not without a great deal of stress. My hairdresser of several decades retired and I had to find a new one in a new location. Nervous already about having a stranger in my intimate space, masks notwithstanding, the garage door wouldn’t open. Luckily, Mr. Laila works from home and after waiting for him to finish a phone call with a client, he was able to manually open it for me. But then my car wouldn’t start – hasn’t been driven for awhile – so, after waiting for his next phone call to end, he gave me a ride. Again, luckily, because our main car is a SUV and the heavy downpour began as soon as we set forth, because my little Mini-Cooper would’ve floated away. Got to the new location just in time – a building of individual salon suites – but the outer door was locked and I stood in the pouring rain pulling out my phone to call the hairdresser to let me in when someone passing by inside finally let me in. After that, all went well and I’m pleased with the results but am happy to just tuck in the rest of the day. Heavy storms predicted here later today, and I’m praying for no flooding.
And, once again, another feline mom has decided to have her kittens in the same neighbor’s yard where my orphan Little Bear came from nearly 2 years ago. Although not a cat person (she has a dog who can’t use its back yard until the cats vacate it) she’s a caring animal person and together with another neighbor and me, she’s working to feed them and find someone who will rescue them. Some things just never change – wish us good luck!
Hoping for an uneventful weekend ahead and a good one for all of you!
Hooray for the haircut – it was meant to be with finding a way to get there and done. Good luck with the kitties!
Thanks! Apparently, momma cat moved her kittens and they are, at present, nowhere to be found. This has happened in the past and is how I wound up with the ‘orphaned’ kitten who got left behind. Apparently momma cat senses that a rescue is in the offing and says ‘no, thanks.’ We’ll still be watching for them, poor babies.
Wow, that was quite the expedition for your haircut!
But I was very pleased with the results so, hopefully, next time will be non-eventful!
Oh man, you deserve an award for making through the gauntlet, hair-salon-wise. Just the new stylist alone would have had me curled up in a ball, let alone all the rest. Hope your weekend is PERFECT.
I read your post below earlier and I thought, I know exactly how she feels.
I read your response to my post now and thought, She knows exactly how I feel!
I think I have quite a few house twins today with something from Vilhelm! I will have to check comments, though, to see if I have an actual perfume twin.
SOTD = Vilhelm Parfumerie Morning Chess EdP, from the sample stash. Many thanks to the lovely NSTer who passed this along to me!
I am getting a smaller FB of this when the line is restocked at Arielle Shoshana’s in mid-July (already dibsed ?).
You’ve already dibsed on a smaller bottle, or it has already been dibsed for decants? ?
Morning Chess is quite good!
Dibsed for a smaller bottle! I try not to leave things to chance.
No points for me, but I smell beautiful in Jour d’Hermes. Venturing out in a couple of hours for a long-needed haircut! I’m surprised at how jittery I am about expanding my horizons beyond my own little home world, but I guess it really is true that I’ve never lived through anything like this pandemic before, and not knowing at all what could be around the corner is disorienting.
Oh, and I’m going to try putting a little athletic tape over the nose bridge of my mask to see if I can keep it from riding up into my eyes and/or fogging my glasses – anybody tried that yet? Is it a ridiculous idea? Guess I’ll find out. 🙂
I’ve used the tissue trick but I stopped it a few weeks ago and have not had a problem.
Smelling beautiful in Jour! 😉 I hope you enjoyed your haircut, self care is important even when it feels scary.
Huzzah for getting a haircut! I’m due for one, and maybe everyone here who has been going for it will encourage me to make an appointment.
Yes, if I can do it, you can, too!
Please, report back on the athletic tape. Hope it works!
It did work! I was amazed at how well an inch or so of it over the bridge kept the mask in place. It’s not even terribly noticeable if one also wears glasses.
Good to know! Thanks! I wear glasses all the time, so I will try the tape asap!
I learned 2 new terms for people’s reactions after the long period of Covid-19 restrictions: FOMO – those people who suffer Fear of Missing Out, and FOGO – those who experience Fear of Going Out. I think I know which group you and I belong to, and there’s a comfort in knowing I’m not there all alone.
You smell wonderful! Jour is so green and refreshing, one of my favorites from Hermes.
I haven’t tried the tape tip yet, but I should. My glasses are fogging up constantly.
Hi and happy Friday everyone! Chiming in very late, 3 hour Zoom meeting first thing today (cranky pants were on)…
My SOTD is Classic Patchouli by Von Eusersdorff, it has a V in the brand name and that’s as close as it gets! I’m wafting serious patchouli right now..
It is seriously good!
I’ve discovered that patchouli is very soothing for me. Almost on par with jasmine.
I agree, there is something very grounding. Also nice is patchouli mixed with vanilla and musk, or Patchouli with ylang ylang oil.
Back in grade school, my art teacher wore either patchouli, or Clinique’s Aromatics Elixir, mixed with the smell of paint and clay – it was just heaven! I wish they made a candle or perfume that smelled like that.
I am down to the bare bones of my Diptyque patchouli candle. It’s my favorite candle from them….
This is a very good patch! I put aged patchouli oil in my diffuser rather frequently.
OH, I adore aged patchouli! It’s so smooth, an it’s very vanilla-like.
I have a bottle of 30 year old vanilla that has traveled three states, I adore the old stuff.
SotD = Onda EdP
from a spray sample that’s just about used up.
Goodness, this is a positively challenging scent. Love the ylang, but the coriander makes my nose twitch. Adore the honey, but the vetyver feels abrupt. Reminds me of MEM in a very good way because there is so much going on in this genius scent.
I’m seriously tripping on the smell of a fresh gardenia bloom a neighbor gave me. I put the just barely open bud in a vase on my desk last night. Today it has slowly opened and made me swoon with each waft.
Happy FriYAY to all you fantastic NSTers. Hope your day has been good to you in lots of ways.
Sounds like you had a few beautiful things to smell today!
So my observations of Onda EDP today are that Vero most certainly must have been thinking about vintage Guerlain Vetiver and also Molinard Habanita when she created this fragrance. It reminds me so much of both of these while not being exactly like either. Vetiver is an interesting note with many facets and can read as either super green and clean and also quite dirty and animalic. It is used quite deftly in Onda. I am grateful for my rather large decant and wish that Vero was still with us.
My mom had a glass vase, basically an oversized stemless wine glass, and she would float a gardenia blossom in it. Thanks for taking me back in time!
I had a wonderful exchange with a gentleman in the grocery store this morning. Won’t go into the details, but it was heartfelt, it lifted me up and I can see that there are good people around every corner. The day was indeed good to me.
Your mom sounds like a very elegant doyenne ?.
Thank you, hajusuuri! She was a very special lady. ?
I adore gardenias, there’s something intoxicating about them….
Super late check in…wore Elie Saab Le Parfum L’Eau Couture for the grocery store trip. After cleaning up and some much-needed chocolate, applied Vilhelm Modest Mimosa. It was quite carrotty and a bit sweet on me. But, points and two sample plinks!
Added some L’artisan Mimosa Pour Moi, which doesn’t last long, but is a lovely skin scent with 8-10 sprays. I’m wondering if I’m anosmic to something in this one.
