Hump Day, plus World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am out of town today, on a quick family visit. I'm commando at the moment, and I probably won't wear perfume until tonight, so I will check in later.
Reminder: on 6/19, we're doing Fantasy Vacation Friday...pick a destination and wear the scent that takes you there. (This is a repeat from 2015.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: I'm featuring paintings by Giovanna Garzoni this week; I became interested in her art after Kevin sent me the article The Baroque Artist Who Captured the World in Her Still Lifes. Shown above is detail from Still Life with Birds and Fruit, c. 1650, via The Cleveland Museum of Art, public domain.
Nicolaï Parfumeur Vie de Chateau for my fictional holidays in a Chateau in France.
Love that one — should have bought a small bottle years ago.
it IS really lovely. So many fragrances are and we can’t buy them all ?
Ah, such a wonderful fragrance. It was originally called Cheverny, which is a beautiful castle near the Loire.
I would just love to visit some châteaux right now.
Oh – I remember visiting th Loire Valley a few years back. I can see myself sporting this to a stroll along one of those vineyards.
How nice! I loved Vie de Chateaux but thunked what I had years ago.
A scent thunked is a scent loved.
I have a few drops left of vintage Gem by Van Cleef & Arpels, and I’m wearing one: a chypre in the eighties style with an overdose of stone fruit (peaches, plums, apricots) in the top and frankly an overdose of everything else you can think of — woods, flowers, spices, animalics, oakmoss. It’s so extreme.
Ohhh, gorgeous!
That sounds like such fun!
Safe travels Robin and enjoy your family visit.
I’m in Child perfume oil. I’m not usually one for bwf’s but this one is nice and feels like something that should be worn on a hot and humid day like it’s supposed to be today.
Happy hump day!?
I also have issues with bwfs, but I have always enjoyed Child oil. I guess because it is just so simple, pretty and easier to wear.
That’s a perfect description, I agree.?
Thank you, I am!
?
That sounds like something I need in my life! The oil, that is, not the humidity haha.
Wonderful painting! I am wearing Hindu Honeysuckle today.
Isn’t that fantastic? She has several wonderful paintings with figs.
Pretending I am at the beach in Gaspé, Québec in DS & Durga Rose Atlantic.
Gaspé looks beautiful!
It is! If the winters weren’t so bad I’d move there.
I just looked it up and I love the look of it.
Wow that looks beautiful!
Lovely beaches there!
Sitting at a cafe in Paris in Grisette by Lubin
French press coffee
Thrift store OOTD, a coral Ellen tracy dress and shoes to match.
The shoes I bought in the Housing Works on the upper east side, which has closed permanently because of this shut down in NYC (as we are in week 14 of the lockdown). I will keep my political comments to myself.
Oh, Coral colored dress? I bet that’s gorgeous on you!
Orange, and coral are my favorite colors.
Finishing my 3rd cup of espresso, was up until 11pm finishing a class project. I’m too old to stay up this late!!
Thank you, its similar to this dress https://images.app.goo.gl/PnPCKvfCe81oC9wk8
I find that with coral I need to wear bronzer or have a little bit of tan to pull it off.
Like when I wear red, I have to wear makeup or else I look washed out…
That is super cute. I need you to be my personal shopper.
What a darling dress! I’m sure you look lovely in it
Coral sisters! I have a similar, coral colored dress (different neckline) that I bought in a consignment store in Italy last summer…it’s very dressy, so I had to have it, and now there are no occasions….
Thank you for keeping your political comments to yourself, it is much appreciated
Certo!
of course!
Just occurred to me that we should allow political talk but only in Italian. Then we can all learn Italian and shout at each other. Ha!
Could we extend that to French? I’m great at swearing in French. ?
I think if we go that route, it might be good if we limited ourselves to discussing Italian politics.
Ha! But we wouldn’t be able to see the hand gestures, the most important part of the Italian language
???
There’s a gesture that means the same thing in every language ?(this with a different finger) ??
We officially started phase 2 this Monday which means more things are opening. I walked into Anthropologie for the first time in months last week and although I didn’t buy anything, it felt good to do a little browsing.?
take me with you…I would love to browse
I enjoy shopping in stores and look forward to getting back out there!
Oh…I hadn’t heard thag location closed permanently. Bummer.
I remember a coral and cream silk dress I had many moons ago. It was gorgeous. I was like a walking creamsicle.
Oh no!!! I used to love visiting Housing Works if I had spare time when I would be in NYC. BUMMER.
My family is all in the Philly suburbs, so usually if I have work in NYC my mom will take NJ Transit up to some see me, and lets me drag her around to whatever I’m up to in my off time: mostly local bakeries/coffee shops and thrift stores. I definitely took her there at least once.
There is a few up here, but the one on lex closed. The others as far as I know will re-open, one day.
I’m in Demeter Tomato, one of my absolute favorite summer scents, which is the epitome of a cheap thrill. I also pulled Beetroot, which I will probably wear this weekend.
Betcha they layer!!
Does it smell like tomato leaf?
Unexpectedly wearing YSL Paris because a NSTer reminded me of it earlier this morning. It is always enjoyable to lavishly spray on such a classic beauty!
Happy Wednesday!
My absolute favourite fragrance! You smell beautiful and very huggable.
Thank you! ? A big favorite of mine also!?
Meet you in Paris?
Any time! ?
Safe travels Robin!
My SOTD is vintage Amazone extrait, by Hermes. One of my summer favorites.
I received some sad news about a life long friend yesterday, I need to put on the walking shoes and walk – that will help me to clear my head a bit.
See ya’ll later folks.
Sending hugs SmokeyToes ?.
I am so sorry SmokeyToes..I hope your walk helps. These are such interesting times, and to receive sad news I am sure is not helping. Sending you a virtual hug.
I think you should eat a full sandwich today, if that helps.
I can join you, Let me know
Hi Lovestosmellgood – Yep, please join me in doing the full-on sandwich for lunch today, PB, Banana, a drizzle of honey, AND Marshmallow fluff. I’m sure I’ll be in a sugar coma by 1pm today!
Some days, you gotta just eat it, enjoy and just say what the heck, I’m going for it.
Oh, I’m so sorry SmokeyToes. I do hope the walk helps.
Sorry for your bad news, walking is wonderful for lifting your spirits.
Walking is the best therapy. Hugs!
Hope your walk helps. Hugs.
Sorry for your bad news, SmokeyToes. Be kind to yourself today.
Eeek…so sorry for the sad news.
My deepest condolences to you, Liz! Taking a walk is a good strategy right now.
Hey there!, as you know, a walk in nature and a bit of yoga always help.
Thanks for the kind wishes, a four-mile walk helped. I was able to call my friend and provide a shoulder to vent and cry on. And also will provide her with a few names of physicians who are experts in patients with this diagnosis.
I’m aware of what her new diagnosis entails, it’s going to be difficult, and a steep learning curve, but one step at a time….
Oh dear. So sorry.
I am so sorry for your bad news. Hope the walk helps <3
Hope the walk helps…
So sorry about the distressing news.
Hugs SmokeyToes. I’m sorry to hear that you were thrown for a loop recently by bad news.
Walking does wonders for me too. Sorry for your difficult news.
Have a great trip Robin!
I’m wearing Garden of India by Parle Moi de Parfum. I ordered their discovery set a few weeks ago and I’m slowly trying them out. The set is a good deal and I always like getting a feel for a line. So far I haven’t fallen for anything but Garden of India (a BWF) is very nice.
Tea is MF Bouddha Bleu.
Hardly even qualifies as a trip, came down to beach last night to see my mom, will be here less than 24 hours. But have not seen her since February so glad we could do this, hopefully safely.
Unfortunately it is windy, cold and raining, so will not get any actual beach time at all.
Have you tried the Guimauve de Noël yet? Orris Tattoo?
The Guimauve is really nice. A marshmallowy orange blossom without being candy sweet. I preferred it to By Kilian’s Love Don’t Be Shy and would buy it if I had lots of money for perfume. As it is, I’ve just finished my sample.
I’ve just put some on and I agree. Lovely.
Agreed, Guimauve is nice but I haven’t been impressed w/ the rest of the line.
I have tried Orris Tattoo, but the first try wasn’t great. The opening is a bit sharp.
I have yet to try Guimauve de Noël.
The surprising winner so far is Whiter than white (or words to that effect), it has a lovely lilac note.
I got the sample set from Luckyscent and haven’t been that impressed…not sure why…some of them seem uneven somehow to me. I did like Guimauve but I am a vanilla sucker. I didn’t care for Flavia Vanilla though. Gardens of India didn’t come in my set but that one does look interesting.
So far they have not been a great hit with me either, but when I look at Almairac’s work for other houses there are not that many that I am really smitten by.
But it is nice to explore the whole set, nevertheless. You sort of get a feel for someone’s style this way.
Thanks both!
How nice that you get to see her now
sorry about the anti-beach weather.
It was a nice if short visit. And I got a real hug from someone other than my husband.
Continuing with my personal theme, today I am imagining that I get to shop in a “fancy” grocery store in a nice part of town. Someone has gifted me a gift card and I have $50 to spend on artisanal cheeses and aged balsamic vinegar.
Pear and Olive would be a good fit, but it is supposed to get hot today, and I think the oiliness would suffocate me. And, unfortunately, I couldn’t find my little decant of Ananaz Fizz. So, wearing Ninfeo Mio to aide in my fantasy of perfect fruit, carefully and artfully arranged in the produce aisle!
Like your personal theme a lot!
Thanks. My fantasies are pretty humble these days.
Mine also. Joining you! ?
Welcome! Would you like to sample this wine they’re promoting in aisle 3??
Let’s go try! Who knows and we may get a bottle! ?
??
Oh Marjorie Rose, how I would love to be able to find some Slumberhouse Pear and Olive perfume. One of my absolute favorites that got discontinued. I would love to know if anyone has found some. Just got through telling my boyfriend that I am so tired of fragrances getting discontinued only to find it on Ebay for hundreds and even thousands of dollars! Ugh! Sorry for my rant. That just hit a sore spot.
I feel the same about Pear and Olive and could kick myself for not getting a bottle.
I’m so sorry! I know what you mean–I’m drawn to weird, apparently not commercially viable scents all the time, and then they disappear only to become cult classics 5 years later! My bottle of P&O was gifted to me by a friendly, local perfumista. If she hadn’t decided it wasn’t for her, I’d have missed my chance, too.
I would also love to purchase artisanal cheeses and aged balsamic!
You are welcome to nibble off my cheese plate. (Sorry, that sounds strangely inappropriate! ?)
What a charming fantasy! Some artisan cheese shopping sounds delightful right now. So does a perfect Caprese salad.
The fresh basil is the real draw for me with Caprese. Possibly I haven’t had proper, fresh mozzarella which I find fine, but not a WOW, but I could eat local tomatoes and fresh basil for days without tiring of them!
We have some beautiful basil in the garden right now and I found some good Amish grown greenhouse tomatoes yesterday. Wish I could send you some.
That’s kind of you, thank you!
I would love to eat artisanal cheeses and aged balsamic vinegar. Someone else can do the shopping for me. ?
Pear and Olive is wonderful.
I used to like wandering through a grocery store and considering the possibilities. These days, not so much. . .
Ditto! Dash in, dash out!
Me neither. I’m giving my local store plenty of time to do their reset before I step foot in there again.
This made me giggle–I love it!
?
I could far too easily spend $50 on good cheese and balsamic vinegar!
I know. Maybe my fantasies should be fancier? ?
I have traveled to Spain in Seville a l’Aube, orange blossoms and woody underpinnings, reminds me of the hills around Jerez de la Frontera, where I lived while working on the air force base at Rota in the 70’s. Oh my so long ago.
I have several OB samples coming in a set from Indigo (no affiliation!) I impulse added to the purchase of Vivacious samples…. The OB samples include California Reverie which I have been wanting to smell, and a sample of Dilettante, which may be depressing if I love it after it has been so recently discontinued….
Scent twins! You smell wonderful ?
I think you can still get Dilettante by ordering directly from Hiram Green. I have ordered from them, and the package got here so fast it was amazing.
Also, when I was in Seville in September, I discovered an amazing line of body products made from local oranges and orange blossoms called Bendita Luz. The smell of the orange blossom soap is to die for. http://www.benditaluz.es/index-eng.html
Oh, I loved my decant of California Reverie!
Sweet, but bright and cheery!
Here is a PSA, I got an email from Luckyscent and looks like Andy Tauer has released a new perfume. Looks like a summery type of thing. Woke up in SDV today. About to put on Givenchy III.
Is that the Pthaloblue? It looks interesting.
Yep, it does. A new perfume isn’t in the cars right now for me.
Always ready to sniff a new Tauer!
Yes, saw that…but I can’t get that excited about any aquatic perfume really even from Tauer. Aquatics tend to be overpowering to me in almost any dose.
I think that Andy Tauer does a better at a lot of notes than so many others. I might not enjoy everything he has done but I enjoy quite a bit of his work.
And it looks like if you order any full bottle of Tauer from Luckyscent, you get the two new perfumes in the tiny adorable bottles as your gift.
Really? I am about due for a FB of LADDM. Cute little samples might push me over the edge! I like some acquatics, the ones that light on musk…
Saw this new release too. Sounds interesting!
I am on furlough this week as I mentioned in a previous post – so I am commando for a bit, then going out to kayak later this morning. I also have projects when I get home so maybe Chanel No. 19 (thanks to the recent swap meet).
And then…I have an appointment for a crown at the dentist. I’ve already rescheduled twice – am nervous about going to a dentist right now, but the tooth has a crack and I’m nervous about that, too. Wish me luck.
Kayaking!? my favorite, have fun!
And good luck at the dentist. I will spare you my cracked tooth story, I think you are wise to have it taken care of sooner rather than later.
Very excited to get out on the water! Thanks.
Good luck at the dentist!
A friend of mine went for a cleaning a few weeks ago, and she said it was weirdly reassuring to have someone in close proximity, taking care of her in that way. These times can be so isolating, it felt good to her to have that connection. . . .And she posted a picture of the plastic sheeting that wrapped half of the room to contain any expectoration.
Not sure going to get a crown would feel as “self-carey,” but hoping it feels good to get it done and off the list!
I still have fond memories of a brain MRI during a particularly challenging time in my life. An hour, without anyone able to ask me for anything, prone, with somehow soothing dings and bangs.
LOL! I can see that, except for the contrast medium which makes me nauseous.
Good luck and big hugs for the dentist.
Good luck at the dentist!
So much luck!!!
Thanks, everyone. I’ll be glad when it’s done!
Kayaking sounds wonderful, enjoy! Big hugs about the dentist, I’m sure you deserve a crown ? just not one on your tooth
Good luck!
Good luck at the dentist!
Good luck at the dentist although it looks like it’s too late for me to suggest being the first appointment.
I agree and generally try to do that anyway. But I asked and he only does crowns at 2 pm!
Hope the dentist appointment will not be to bad
Best of luck at the dentist. I canceled my half-yearly checkup and rescheduled for September. I don’t know if I’ll want to go then either, though….
How do you feel about being on furlough? I hope you are in a good mental space to enjoy the time off! But furloughs can be emotionally complicated.
I have two one-week furloughs and am so in need of a break that I am feeling completely positive about it, but certainly recognize that others may not.
Good, I’m so glad that this is a welcome break
Enjoy the time!
Kayaking sounds wonderful, enjoy! And best of luck with the dentist.
Good luck, so wise to take care it before it gets worse.
Springpansy, my daughter is a dentist, and she has spent a lot of time and money refitting her office & operatories with ADA and CDC approved extra HEPA filtration on all air-handling systems, new systems for catching aerosolized material on all hand-pieces & drills, extra PPE, cleaning between patients, new sterilization systems, and staff training. Everyone is in full PPE – suits, N95s, surgical masks and full-face visors. They will take good care of you. Plus a cracked tooth could easily become an implant, so deal with it now. Less time in the chair, less $$$, less risk. P.S.: I hate going to the dentist. Sometimes I think that’s why she chose the field.
Yes – I am sure they are taking lots of precautions. And that was exactly my thinking about going now vs later – avoid the implant!
I hope that things went well for you at the dentist!
Doing cherry today and comparing Aromatics Black Cherry and Black Perfecto…?
And I see cherries are out in the markets!
Yes, the summertime fruits are wonderful.
I got them at Whole Foods — so good!
Yum! ? I was lucky enough to have some Rainier cherries recently. Delicious!
Is there a cherry winner?
Maybe BP b/c of the licorice.
I need to buy some cherries soon..kids love them..I love their stained fingers and face after they finish
I am plopped on the sofa to watch the evening news with a big bowl of dark sweet cherries ? after plugging away at work all day. Not furloughed yet.
I put on the same t shirt I wore yesterday. And am swooning in the remnants of Pharoahs Passion. It is heady stuff. I wrote a note to Diane St. Clair to thank her for reawakening my love of fragrance in the time of Covid. She wrote back and and said she might do full bottle size.
I wish I was walking and talking with my sister here at home actually in California. I wish she could visit and we could just drive up the coast.
SOTD: CdG Lily
Day 2 of our virtual event and going well! One thing is for sure, no aching feet at the end of the day
I like some aspects of virtual events quite a bit!
Was offline yesterday, but wore California Rêverie, which always makes me happy.
Today was less about fantasy vacation in Fiori di Capri, although I would love to go there. It was about innocuous scent for my dental cleaning. I dislike cleanings, but I was happy to go…it felt like normal life. And…the mile walk over at 8:30 this gorgeous morning and then back was a wonderful way to start the day. What’s interesting is most of the city activity is construction workers, they are back out in full force. Nice to see.
Springpansy…I will say my hygienist had on two masks. I think she had on an N95 under a surgical. I felt entirely comfortable. But…every patient and staff person had on a mask, so that helps.
Oh! And off topic. I can’t remember if someone here mentioned these books or if Amazon simply recommended to me, but I’m enjoying the “North of the Tension Line” series by J.F. Riordan. My husband, who went to high school in Wisconsin’s Door County and grew up going there, is enjoying me mentioning the places in the books.
Added to my NST book recs list!
Thanks!! I know my dentist is taking precautions. I’m sure part of my nerves is that I’m never excited about going to the dentist for a procedure at the best of times!
What a morning! Weather this week has been lovely.
I’ve got my dental appt. next week
My brother wears a surgical mask over a fitted N95 and he’s always used a plexiglass shield while in surgery.
I’m in a sample of Black Safa, by Chay. Not sure they even exist anymore, and I can’t find it on Fragrantica. It’s a nice soft patchouli with some woodiness and smoke, but not too much.
Aaaand that’s a big old thunkerino….
I should be thunking more samples during this time, alas, I am not..
Hey, you are cherishing your Shalimar! ??
The sun has finally reappeared here, and I’m in Mediterraneo to celebrate and continue dreaming of the south of France. I notice that today’s painting doesn’t have the flies that the previous two had – I can only assume that one of the birds ate them.
Oh, I should pull that one towards the front of the cabinet again. Perfect for hot weather!
Yay for Mediterraneo – I may change my mind and put that on instead this afternoon.
I’ll be happy to join you in the south of France lol
Love the painting Robin chose for today!
Craving Chanel Boy, which arrived in my mailbox yesterday. Last night I was enveloped in its elegant lavender goodness, decanting for a split. I’ve got a mammogram later this morning (yuck!) and so am restraining myself from wearing perfume until that visit is done.
While decanting, I watched perfume reviews of Boy on Youtube, something I do not usually do–I prefer reading to listening. I enjoyed the background chat about the very perfume I was working with. It felt akin to watching a Julia Child cooking show and then getting to eat the finished dish!
When I go for a mammogram, I always spray some fragrance on my shirt….its cheating a bit, but always works for me. Hey, its not on your skin…..right?
Chanel Boy is one of the few Chanel fragrances that I can wear. You smell great!!
I do, I do (bouncing up and down—mammogram indignities now a distant memory)!
Happy Hump Day Everyone!
Robin, I just realized yesterday that NST is on Twitter – I love Twitter. So, of course , I followed and am so glad I did. Now I can easily get updates from NST and not have to wait until I get home to see what’s going on. Most people are probably saying, “Duh!” but technology has never been my strength…lol! I digress…..
My SOTD is Angeleno by Yosh. This takes me to the city of Angels in my miund until I am able to visit. It screams everything a summer day reflects.
Oh good. My twitter feed was less boring before politics blew up twitter…I do still post updates but I don’t chat over there anymore. Couldn’t take the stress!
I love today’s painting! Heating up here; I’m in AG Le Chevrefeuille and bare legs.
You smell great Isabella!
Wearing Parfum d’Empire Acqua di Scandola.
I can almost hear the sea on vacay in Corse.
Oh I wish I was in Corse right now!!!!
Such a beautiful island.
I’ve never been but it’s on my bucket list
Sounds interesting
So lets file Byredo Bibliotheque under perfumes that make me giggle. Not a bad thing. I just sprayed the entire sample on myself after mixing some with unscented body lotion for the layering effect. The most glorious stone fruit opening and now powdery sweetness. I got no leather and no patchouli about 2 hours in. I did not travel to a library but maybe an orchard or into the painting pictured above, without the dusty smell of feathers, of course. THUNK.
Bibliotheque is a perfect example of a “Not as the Label Says” perfume, which might have been a CP once.
Hi everyone, its been a while.
Work is quite busy and i am getting fed up with working from home. The plus side is no commute. And sometimes meetings are more efficient.
Still…video meetings are so tiresome. Around 3 PM i feel like a train wreck ?
Positive stuff:
I am wearing Sycomore today!
The only FB Chanel in my collection and I love it
You’re so right……no commute is a huge plus about working from home……but missing the overall interaction with humans at work. Well, I’m in education, so it will be interesting to see how things play out in the next month or so.
If I never participate in another Zoom meeting, it will be too soon! Ugh! Lol!
You smell wonderful. I cannot imagine having worked from home all this time. Hang in there!
Thank you!
Well i fear these regulations will last at least til end of this year.
Its perfectly understandable…
We do not want to crowd the public transport right now, our offices are not corona-proof…and to be honest, my work is very do-able from home
(its IT related, only digital products, so no need to be in a store, office or a restaurant).
….and as a public servant, we have to set an example and act/think even more prudent ?
It puts a strange strain on you, I suppose. There was an article in the NRC this week explaining why these online meetings are so exhausting. If you google NRC Gianpiero Petriglieri, you ought to be able to find it easily.
What is NRC?
Its a Dutch news paper!
?
It’s an acronym of a well known paper in the Netherlands.
I will check it out! Thank you ?
You smell great
and yeah, they are exhausting. I know how you feel.
I am wearing Chanel Coco EDP after a morning water aerobics class and shower. I am currently drinking my second cup of green tea.
Smelling wonderful.
Water aerobics..I want to be where ever you are…
You smell wonderful!
I’m “shopping in Paris” today wearing French Leather.
Thanks for the warm thoughts and support yesterday. I got a good bit of sleep and do feel much more positive and chill today than the past several days. I appreciate you all so much!
It’s amazing what a good nights sleep will do, isn’t it? Glad to hear you are feeling a little better.
Thank you!
Nice painting. Probably a quirk of my eyes…with both eyes open, there’s a slight fuzziness, but with one eye closed, each view looks sharper individually.
SOTD = Herve Gambs Hotel Particulier
I’m back in Lisbon, Portugal, where I bought this vacation perfume with all its vanilla, incense, sandalwood, woody patch goodness. I have been twice and wouldn’t mind going again.
In other news, for the first time ever, my company is allowing employees to take a paid afternoon off on Juneteenth. I applaud this but, at the same time, worry about other dates that matter that won’t get the same treatment.
Oh, and I just got a text that DHL will be delivering Vivacious today. I hope the driver does not get discouraged when he sees that he can’t drive his truck in because the parking lot is being paved and today is the hot tar coating day. My section of the lot is not being paved so I left my car parked here bit won’t be able to drive out until Friday.
Oops, wrong place, ugh!
So sorry about your uncle.
I loved your post, whether it belonged here or not.
I missed your post yesterday, KellyC. I am so very sorry for your loss.
Thank you. Hugs.
I missed it too. My condolences on your loss.
Glad to hear that you are feeling a little better today, KellyC.
I also read your post very late; I’m very sorry for your loss.
Glad you are feeling a bit better today.
Overcast and dreary day here. The good news is it’s not terribly hot.
One of my lost packages showed up yesterday. Alas, it was not my perfume package.
I’m waffling back and forth about visiting the Folk Art Center right up the Parkway. I’d love to go, they have such cool stuff from local artisans, but I’d probably end up spending money and it certainly isn’t “essential.”
North Carolina Covid cases have double every day for the past several days. Not a great time to be encountering people in a closed environment. I’m still staying home except for the grocery store and gas. When I am out, I hardly see anyone wearing a mask. I guess that would account for the increasing cases here…?
SOTD is SL Vetiver Oriental.
Sadly people are still stupid and in denial
Couldn’t have said it better!
So so stupid!
I understand being torn about enclosed spaces! Bath and Body has opened back up but here in Virginia, masks and social distancing are the law. I see about 95 percent compliance. But going to store where one must sniff. That is the point. I would try to bend and sniff as much as possible, but one could see where it turns into a nightmare of lots of people, with maybe clean hands, touching every thing! Including me! How do they clean everything when they close? I could just order on line but I refuse to buy without sniffing first. And people are just oblivious. Out an outdoor farm stand this morning, I get in the small line, people are wearing their masks and distancing until that one unmasked person. I was in the tent selecting and paying, glorious basil, beautiful flower bouquet. This woman literally buzzed the stand, with no mask, she could see there was a line but she actually took some herbs right out of my hand and yelled in my face, with no mask! Horrific! I am a tall, imposing woman too! Be careful. I think it is wise to have a plan on how to handle this before you are stymied by shock, as I was.
P.S. Not going shopping. Do not need anything. I can just go sniff the candles I already own and make my way through my mountain of samples.
yes, exactly, shop your own stash.
I’m having a hard time imagining a trip to a perfume counter, I don’t think I would want to pick up tester bottles and sniff them like I used to do.
my local BBW has a sink in the middle of the store for people to try out soaps, I hope it gets more use these days!
very sorry about the close encounter, people are not always kind, and I would be stymied in that moment too.
We should have a “shop your own stash” theme one week haha!
Ugh! That’s horrible! I’ve come to the conclusion that this group of people, who are most likely also flat-earthers and anti-vaxers, are the most selfish, aggressive, and hateful group of people around right now. They are flat out bullies. This is an additional reason I’m staying home as much as possible, to avoid these people. ?
It took me a minute to understand what flat-earther was… then I ?
I’m a little slow today.
OMG, this could be considered assault. How crude, how crass. Seriously, what a no good horrible person, really unfit to be part of sensible society. ???
Same her in Houston…..cases going up each day!
edit: here not her
When you’re out walking without doing commerce and/or shopping? Maybe you can train T-Rex to growl at maskless people – jk as we wouldn’t want her to be tagged a menace.
Seville l’Aube today, not to be transported anywhere but because I love it. When I’m home I spritz it about every hour for that divine bitter orange opening.
I’m accomplishing a whole lotta nuthin these days. We just found out we were exposed to the virus recently – I’m not really worried because we were all masked up but it does add another layer of unease to the day.
I feel like I accomplish nothing these days too
very sorry for the virus worry! things feel so complicated.
Right there with you in not accomplishing a whole lot. Grief, depression, more grief. Getting through the day in one piece is all I can manage. Hang in there.
Oh no! Sending wishes your way to remain healthy and happy!
I’m sorry for your worry. Wishing you good health!
Eeek. The “standard” for exposure is 15 minutes of close contact in an enclosed space. Hoping for the best for you / family.
Yikes!
Hope you stay at ease and don’t worry about the virus too much. Stay safe.
I am wearing Melograno today, which I find very uplifting. I can imagine I bought it in Italy and the SMN mothership. However, I bought it over the phone just recently from one of my two favorite independent perfume shops in San Francisco, had a nice conversation with the owner when I ordered, and am supporting a local non-chain shop.
There is a SMN store in Chevy Chase, a day trip for me. It is on my bucket list. I have convinced myself the mother of all patchouli perfumes lives there. I could get a sample but what fun is that? I suspect it will not be until next year, if that little store survives.
I have a friend whose HG fragrance is the SMF Patchouli so I hear it’s all that. I think some perfume stores will reopen–the one in SF I bought from will be doing that soon–but things will be different inside them. Not sure how sniffing will be done….
The SMN mothership is DIVINE. I went on a day trip with friends to do wine tasting in Tuscany when we had a week working in Bologna, and we came back very pleasantly fuzzy and sampled every scent at the perfume bar in SMN after just walking around agape at the space. I can’t wait to go again… Someday!
There were a few perfume outings for me on our honeymoon in Italy a few years ago, including a delightful sales experience at SMN! Our SA seemed so happy to discuss fragrance in a more meaningful way than “what is the most popular scent?”
As a bonus, our hotel room looked out in that direction and there are thousands, THOUSANDS of starlings swarming the old church. Noisy and kinda wonderful.
It sounds wonderful. I know also they have a lot of different body products, etc. that you can’t find elsewhere. I get kind of overwhelmed when I encounter the whole line, though, which I did in New York City at LAFCO, which no longer exists.
Repeated from a misplaced comment
See reply below. NST has me off my game today?
Friday is my re-opening day, it’s going to be nuts. No-one can have that day off, even unpaid.
Hope the delivery guy is able to make the delivery without too much trouble. Yay for perfumed mail!?
The Juneteenth afternoon off was a surprise. My manager is on vacation and I may just go for a bit of hooky earlier.
The package came but is in mail quarantine until tomorrow!
Looking forward to hearing when you open up that perfume parcel!
Re: Paragraph five- that’s the issue, right? I’d really enjoy a “Dog Lovers Day” holiday myself. I think we should be given one nameless holiday which we can use at our discretion and name anything want to celebrate whatever achievement we want. I can think of several off the top of my head: Immigrant Day, Recovery from (just insert here) Day, Weight Loss Day, College Degree Day, New Baby Day, as Infinitum…
Whoops! This was a reply to H above!
LOL. There’s a list of 13 FAQs about this with different variations of “Will I get paid”. The group that doesn’t normally work on Friday afternoon gets nothing (I would be up in arms) whereas the people who are scheduled to work will get the time off paid as will the ones who had already put in for a vacation day. Anyway, I am not the decision-maker so I would assume this was thought through. I may be missing the nuances of labor laws when it comes to something like this.
I swapped the winter clothes out and the summer clothes into the closet this morning, as it looks like summer temps are finally here. It’s been a rainy and cold June so far and I am looking forward to some warmer weather. I’m wearing African Leather today, and wishing I could go again. I have not been to Western or Southern Africa yet.
I think we should make it a group holiday there.
This was meant as a reply to missionista. We all seem to be commenting in the wrong place today.
It seems like a lot of us have decide to visit France for the day. I’m following along, going to Brittany in Ael-Mat. It’s working well for our weather today, and doesn’t even feel too sweet. I’m close to thunking this one, and so excited about that.
Sotd = Le Jardin de Monsieur Li
wanted to wear this one last week but ran out of garden days. I really would love to visit a place with a garden that smells like this perfume.
perfume is self-care and self-defense, so I will go to Trader Joe’s later today with Monsieur Li in my pocket, spray with abandon, then hope my sillage warns off idle and clueless shoppers.
ADORE the art up top today, brown is an unsung hero of art, imho, and it is used wonderfully in that painting.
yesterday was a low energy day, though I did a big tidy up of my back garden, and that felt good. Feels even better to look out my kitchen window this morning and imagine the garden gnomes were busy overnight.
Well done on the garden front and it would be great to have helpful garden gnomes.
thank you, Aurora, it does feel good to have a tidy garden that the gnomes would enjoy.
Fragrance as a defense is a wonderful idea! Maybe I can impose sillage to keep people at bay in public spaces?! Really, it’s a brilliant notion! Grocery shopping in Tabu tomorrow morning! . . . ?
bring on the big scents!
Really, it’s for the protection of everyone.
“perfume is self-care and self-defense”…so true♥️?
Perfume as self defense? Hmmmmmmm. Maybe it’s time to bring back all the BIG ’80’s perfumes! People used to run away from Giorgio.
I love today’s art as well!
I am wearing Eau Claire des Merveilles but all that it conjures up this evening is going to bed soon. Robin, enjoy quality time with your mother and thank you for another lovely image.
I love that image as well. And you smell wonderful!
Thank you so much, Kelly. The image really is enchanting.
I’ve decided on a winter favourite for today – Olfactive Studio’s Chambre Noir. It is wet and cold outside, and one of those days where WFH seems attractive. However, it’s also one of those days where I’ve committed to going into the office – a 20 minute walk. Chambre Noir will be comforting
I enjoy this one as well!
In Cote d’Azur, surrounded by mimosa and acacia trees and fat fuzzy bees as far as the eye can see in Zoologist Bee.
I don’t normally go for super powdery scents, but this is very luxe! It makes me crave a piece of baklava.
ooooh, a bit of both Bee and baklava sounds delicious.
Well here in Michigan everything is back to normal. One billion people out driving and shopping. Yelling at our doors because we aren’t open yet. When I told one lady we we’re closed, she didn’t believe me, and to prove I’m a liar says “if your closed, why are there cars in the parking lot!?” Sigh…
I went with Carnal Flower today. Lot’s of sprays so I could smell it through my mask. My one male fragrant coworker was wearing Mont Blanc Legend, and even though he smelled good, he overpowered CF, so I reaplied at lunch!
I hope you had a great visit, Robin!
People are nucking futs!
Deva, I started typing a whole big reply but I could type pages on this topic. I will just agree with your statement wholeheartedly!
People are starting to get a little careless here. I noticed less social distancing at the grocery store today than there had been in the recent past.
People are nuts, sorry you had to deal with that! Glad you have a fragrance-friend at work.
Oh gosh, my most positive thoughts heading your way. That is so frustrating! I agree with Deva. You did smell amazing though.
Robin, I hope that your quick family visit was a pleasant one.
Lovely temperatures again for me, but clouds have rolled in. So I think that the stretch of perfect weather is probably done for. Ah well… I enjoyed it immensely while it lasted.
SOTD = playing in my sample stash today with Rock Crystal EdP by Olivier Durbano. I’ve missed wearing incense perfumes! It felt good to sniff this one.
It’s been great weather here too. I don’t really mind it raining, as long as it doesn’t storm. It looks like it might this weekend though. Hope it doesn’t head your way.
Ugh, it looks that there will be a chance of thunderstorms every day for the next 6 days here.
It’s kinda humid and gray out…our good weather spell broke…more will come I’m sure!
I did not notice any humidity when I did my errands earlier this afternoon. I will admit that I was more focused on “Get in and get done” though.
I have been virtual conferencing today and will be doing so for the next three days as well. It’s been surprisingly fun and engaging! I feel more stimulated than I have for three months. One guy had to take a quick break from his talk because his dog, a Great Dane, has been having bowel problems and he had to go let her out in the yard. We’re discussing what to plan for next year’s conference, and how, if, and when. It was scheduled for Valencia in June, but we may delay until October of 2021. Who knows? Gosh, I would so love to go! I’m also learning new technologies as we go along. Several of my cats attended with me today and drew comments. I’m back in St Clair Eve but dreaming of oranges in Valencia….
Did any of your kitties do any Zoom Bombing?
Glad your kitties joined in on the meeting! I bet they have a big fan-club now.
Yay for meetings that involve dogs and kitties!
This evening: trying a bit from a sample of St. Clair Gardener’s Glove. I find it very nice.
Not a productive day, but Mom and I went to a local park to get some fresh air this afternoon, and then got takeout at Wendy’s. I haven’t accomplished as much as I’d like to these past few days, but I’ve read a few books. I should have gotten in more time working in the yard while the weather was decent.
Day 2 of back in the office. I was utterly exhausted last night and as a result was falling asleep by 6:00. I’m back wfh next week so it will be a bit of re-adjusting again. I like having my duo screens but don’t like not having my buddies back yet.
Tonight I sprayed on the last bit of L’Attesa from a decant.
One of the parts of telecommuting I struggle with is the lack of dual monitors. It makes things so much easier than it is on a little laptop screen. If I were to work from home regularly I’d have to get a couple to be as efficient as I am at the office.
Wearing Bill Blass Nude today. I miss when fragrances could have a ton of oakmoss in them!
