Hey look, it's Teapot Tuesday! Also, Coral Triangle Day and Cole Porter’s birthday. (Here's Frank, and here's Ella & Nat.) (RIP Bonnie Pointer.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking community project points in a wee drop (I don't have much) of CB I Hate Perfume On A Clear Day You Can See Forever.
Reminder: on 6/12, we're In the garden...wear a perfume that was inspired by a particular garden, or that reminds you of a particular garden, or that just smells like a garden in general. (I think someone suggested this, raise your hand if it was you!)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: "The Caskata Peony Blue Teapot is a modern take on the classic blue and white theme. The amazing peony blossom is dramatic and stunning, yet elegant." $110 at Yvonne Estelle's. For a cheaper take on the same pattern, check out the Insulated Travel Mug at Caskata, $19.
I think Shalimar is the most famous perfume inspired by a garden, so I had to wear it this week. But since it is so hot, I picked a flanker with a lot of bright citrus, Shlimar Parfum Initial L’Eau.
That’s neat about Shalimar, I’d forgotten about it’s origin.
I would love to visit those gardens…
In 1990, I had a chance to visit the Shalimar Gardens, which are in Lahore, Pakistan. It’s a public park now, and no longer planted with flowers (at least not when I was there). There was one deeper pool where little boys were jumping into the water, seeking relief from the intense summer heat.
The Mughal architecture of the garden features is beautiful — Lahore is full of some of the most wonderful Mughal architecture outside of the Taj Mahal. However, you have to use a lot of imagination to conjure any idea of what the Shalimar Gardens would have been like when there were flowering plants, candles or ornaments in the niches, and courtiers in opulent clothing.
Obviously, it smelled nothing like Shalimar the perfume, but I do recall vividly the hawkers on the streets of Lahore selling highly fragrant garlands of jasmine.
I went in 1983. I can still recall the baskets of jasmine as if it were yesterday.
Reading this makes me want to travel again…thanks for sharing!
Great story, thanks for sharing.
I am jealous Nozknoz!
I hope the world is more peaceful someday and you have the opportunity!
Sounds wonderful! Another one for the list…
That sounds just lovely. I’ve been fantasizing about being able to grow jasmine here where I live in Maryland.
Hardy jasmine should be okay in USDA climate zone 7, which is a large part of Maryland, if I am remembering right. Or you can try to nurse the more tender kinds through the winter on a windowsill, which sometimes works for me and sometimes doesn’t. Or you can order new ones from Logee’s Greenhouse every spring. lol. Okay, I don’t order new ones *every* spring. Every few years, I guess.
Neyronrose thank you for the encouragement! I was thinking, between the two – 1)bringing the plant back inside to nurse through winter by a window or 2) buy one or two every year or other year – I’d be more likely to just get new ones. You know, I think I will. Why not? Logee’s you say? I’ll check them out. I’ve just been longing for jasmine or gardenia in my yard for so long. Thank you!
Good to know, will remember this
In the last drops of a sample of Guerlain Jardins de Bagatelle. Beautiful!
Happy Tuesday!
You smell gorgeous!!
Thank you! ?
Thst is a wonderful garden scent.
Very nice, indeed and full bottle worthy!
How appropriate, and it’s a wonderful place. I hope you will purchase it. I have the vintage EDP but used to wear the EDT when it was First released and it was like a fragrant bouquet.
This was an EdT sample, sent to me by a generous NSTer. I have not tried the vintage, but I am sure is glorious. A bottle may be in my future, because it is one of those classics that I would love to have in my collection.
house twins! That is a beautiful scent…
Beautiful spring scent for sure!
oh, JdB is a beautiful choice! I’ll join you. 😀
??
Thanks to all for your comments yesterday, they were fun to read all day ❤️
Bees are vital to gardens, so Zoologist Bee it is.
Lovely connection!
That’s perfect!
Love this connection.
Oh twins 🙂 I guess I do fit the CP after all!
Today I’m wearing Un Jardin en Méditerranée, which is not one of my favorites of the Hermes Jardin series. I am not a fig fan, and this is very fig forward. However, it is mitigated by the cypress, so it is not so figgy as to be a scrubber to me, as are some fig fragrances.
That was a fun scent for me, I have the sur le Nile body lotion, it’s so refreshing!
For another fig scent that is light on the fig, with more woods and salty notes, have you tried Miller Harris Fig Amere?
I have tried some other figs, but not that one. In fact, I don’t think I have any Miller Harris fragrances. I do like Philosykos for some reason.
Boy that sounds wonderful. I have a big problem with fig leaf so I steer away from fig notes in general. I may have to re think this one.
I’m wearing Roucel’s Hong Kong Oolong, and after giving it a couple tries I’m prepared to say I dislike it. The smell of oolong is one of my favorite smells in the world so I think I really wanted to like it!
I am vicariously pleased since I did not get to smell it 🙂
Robin, your scent makes me think of the movie of the same name, and the “garden” Streisand had on her roof terrace. She could make anything bloom.
I’m in the ultimate garden. Heaven.
Made a bolognese last night that turned out well…3 hours simmering on the stove. And drank a canned Mai Tai. Too coconutty, but it was pleasant enough as a one-time experiment.
It was named for the movie 🙂
Love bolognese! Not sure about the canned mai tai but if I had one I’m pretty sure I’d drink it.
? 3 hrs on the stove – sounds like it must have been wonderful!
My SOTD is Vacances by Jean Patou. It suggests spring flowers to me, so hence reasonably on project. It’s a lovely gentle floral with a mix of linden and lilacs and other stuff in it.
Tea is the tropical green tea from Palais des Thés for which I have forgotten the name and as it is no longer made will not be able to find online. It does not matter. It’s nice enough but not quite my COT so to speak.
I don’t remember why I didn’t love Vacances. I should, it has everything in it I would love. Not my COT?
Cup-of-Tea ?
It reminds me a little of the original Eau Du Ciel by Goutal. Did you like that one?
Wow, can’t remember! So I think that means no…
I find it can come on a bit strong for its vacation theme, unless I’m dabbing just a tiny amount.
I still wanted to Thank you for the tea suggestions. I have a few Mariage Frères already and I really like them. they are well balanced and smooth.
I am horribly behind on reading/replying to NST/other mail/and replying in genral
Started work again this week. I was overwhelmed by all those communication after my short and relatively calm staycation.
Also had that drain problem and on top of that the exterior window frames are getting painted, so needed to arrange that as well. ?
Phew, i could use another vacation soon ?
No worries. Another Dutch e-tailer is Tea in Motion. I bought from them a couple of years ago and their teas were very nice!
Hi all! My SOTD is Anais Anais by Cacharel, a floral bouquet on top of an incense/sandalwood base. I adore this scent, it’s a nice blast from the past. I think every girl in H.S., wore this back in the day (along with copious amounts of Final Net)….
Thanks for the lovely birthday wishes yesterday… 😀
I found my French Press coffee maker, so coffee consumed, sneakers on and I’m out the door!
TTFN!
I also had coffee this morning and 2 pieces of peanut butter toast. Basically I had a SmokeyToe approved breakfast of champions.
Just for the record, it’s also springpansy approved! (I loved your story from a while ago where you did a 15 minute ab workout for 5 minutes and then ate toast! I told that right before I did my every other day 15 minute family ab workout. We all thought it sounded like the right approach!)
HA!
Yes, I felt that maybe my approach is not good when I put on my bathing suit over the weekend..hahaha
Yes, it’s delicious but could have some unwanted side effects.
sp – thanks for the reminder! I totally forgot about the 15 minute ab workout for 5 minutes!
As long as I’m on the floor in my leotard, that counts! ???
Excellent! I do love my PB on toast!!
Having it as a mid-day snack with apples. It’s partially healthy…
belated happy birthday, ST!!
Belated Happy Birthday, SmokeyToes!
Happy belated birthday!?
Belated Happy Birthday, SmokeyToes!
Happy belated birthday!!
love your SotD! I wore a bottle or two long, long ago 😉
hope your walk was fantastic,
and that your birthday was even better.
Thanks tiffanie, fantastic walk!
I saw several hawks, a few cute Pomaranians (we hope to adopt a POM some day), and the prettiest little yellow-colored bird. I don’t know if it was a Western Tanager or an American Goldfinch. Towards the end of the walk, a butterfly landed on my sweater. It made my day.
???☺️☺️☺️
Sorry I missed your birthday SmokeyToes, I was off the grid and I was celebrating my hubby’s as well yesterday. I hope it was a great day.
You and Derek trucks share the same birthday as well. Good company!
And Prince as well, his birthday is also on June 7th!
Yes 4 sure!!
Gemini’s rock ;).
I missed it yesterday, sorry!
Belated Happy Bday! ????
Anais Anais was one of the first scents I remember consciously selecting for myself when I was about 8 or 9. I wonder if it has changed much and think I should revisit it.
In any case great choice!
I haven’t tried the newer version, I should try and find some…
Anais Anais was the signature scent of a college friend, we all could tell she was ready for class – we could smell it wafting down the hallway. I think she applied like 15 sprays!
Belated birthday greetings and good wishes–french press coffee is the best!!
Just wearing Hadrien body creme at the moment, will likely top it off with the edp shortly. Cute story: This past weekend, my 9 year old stepdaughter brings in a bunch of dried flowers. I sniff them and am instantly repulsed. The scent was halfway between dried p*** and honey. With a wrinkled nose, I ask her, “What is that?” She says, “You don’t know immortelle?” Obviously not! :/
That story just made my week.
LOL! Very cute! Thanks for giving me a laugh this morning. 🙂
Ha! Too funny.
Lovely! ?
Oh, very cute story! I know there are immortelle fans out there, I’m just not one of them, for the reasons you mentioned!
+1 SmokeyToes. I tried.
Hahahahaha! I had immortelle ice cream once on Corsica and loved that, but it’s still not my favorite scent… Right about on par with chamomile for me.
Chamomile is an apt comparison in terms of a scent that’s somewhere between attractive and unpleasant.
Wow, for a 9 year old to know Immortelle! She’s a scent-prodigy. That’s really cool
That’s kinda what I thought!
I’ve been surprised in the past at how readily she can identify flowers but this one really threw me for a loop! Lol! Kudos to the French public school system!
Woke up in no 19 edp. I am thinking of Givenchy III today since it’s going to be hot for the next couple days.
Getting hot here too!
Twinning with Glannys
Thanks to She-ra I am in 8 sprays of Shalimar light
At my rehearsal dinner before my wedding my father in law told the love story of Shah Jahan.
If you need some escapism and eye candy Legend of Shalimar commercial is very nice..the young man has guy liner and long hair. I wish he were wearing leather pants, and then he would be my ultimate fantasy. A girl can dream…
I knew you will wear Shalimar this week. 🙂
….forgone conclusion..
https://nstperfume.com/2013/08/28/la-legende-de-shalimar/
hehehe
Robin your the best!
This! Is hilarious! On so many levels.
Is that imagery suggesting parallels between the lady and the horse? The horse wades through water, cut to lady showering, the lady next to incense, cut to horse producing a dust trail. ?
Love it.
I think we need the prequel to that ad, with the couple in better days. ?
Yes, maybe just him.
And it’s hot in India, does he need all those clothes? ?
?
The moon rises over the Shalimar Gardens, and candles in the niches around the pool flicker on the invitingly cool water. After midnight, the Prince strolls alone and decides on a swim…
There mistress hides amongst the flowers, hidden.. and gazes upon what she should not..
?
He needs a shower or a bath, right?
Oh, I think we have similar tastes ?

Oh Deva
Oh yes
??
Cool overcast day, wearing Blend Oud Santal Pondichery. Poor puppy girl has the runs, lots of baths and laundry involved, so we are lying low at home today. She is notorious for eating stuff off the ground, so I’m sure this is due to yet another dietary indiscretion.
Aw, hope she is better soon!
Ack! Drives me nuts when mine does this because it invariably means a trip to emergency vet, flagyl, probiotics and waving bye-bye to a chunk of change.? Plus, she just feels so bad, her big ears droop in an uncharacteristic way. I’m hoping your kiddo perks up soon?
Fortunately she is not that bad off, no need for a vet visit, but thank you for the commiseration. 🙂 Dog moms always worry when their kids are sick.
Hope your puppy feels better soon! ?
She’s curled up next to me resting now, thank you!
Ugh. Poor you.
Poor puppy! And poor you, with all that cleanup.
I am really losing track of the days since they are without anchors now. Monday used to be symphony day, Wednesday used to be humane society, Thursday chorus night. I woke up this morning convinced it was Saturday. Took a half cup of coffee before I woke up enough to realize it’s Tuesday.
My garden today has nothing growing in it yet, but the soil has been turned over and smells rich and moist. CBIHP Black March.
Same here foxbins. There are nice things about losing track, but also, not-nice things. I remember when I was in college I thought the best superpower would be to stretch out the time between days…
It’s always funny looking at NST because not only are you a day behind but you write the dates as month/day rather than day/month. So today looks like the 6th September when it is 9th June which is really 10th June! Lucky my diary is empty anyway.
I never understood why we don’t do day/month like the rest of the world, it is much more sensible, and makes a logical progression to year. Probably related to whatever reason we won’t convert to metric already.
Funnily enough, when I do get the day wrong, the default is always “Saturday”, it seems!
Yes, for me too! It is funny how my brain goes to that assumption. 😉
I thunked my bottle of Eau des Sens today. It feels so weird to empty a bottle these days.
I love Eau des Sens but I think I’ll be on a quest of finding a new citrus scent to add to my collection now. Any suggestions (apart from Atelier Cologne classics)?
Hm… A match for Eau de Sens is tough. I enjoy Limon de Cordoza, Aqua Universalis… Bois de Jasmin has an article up about some of the Guerlain colognes (which I don’t know) but maybe some good recommendations in that thread.
Have you ever tried CDG Chayalan Airborne? It starts citrus then goes to juniper and mastic and is good on hot days. Not sweet, quite fresh but not ‘clean’.
Personally I love Ys-Uzac Lale which is powdery citrus
https://www.cafleurebon.com/new-fragrance-review-comme-des-garcons-x-hussein-chalayan-airborne-fashion-transforms-fragrance/
I am not in the garden today! Wearing narciso poudre. Yesterday was montale powder flowers. I wish there was a way to get my hands on teint de neige without spending mega bucks 🙁
Although maybe I should water my own garden and just stick with chanel 22 since I like powder so much!
The New London Pharmacy site has a Teint de Neige purse spray for $48 (15 ml).
Thanks for the tip!
My garden fragrance today is SL De Profundis. I don’t find this funereal, but it’s definitely a different garden than I spent time in yesterday (Le Chevrefeuille). This one is older with more humus and a denser foliage, where plants and trees have crowded out some of the light. I love this garden, too.
what a great description..
I heard the new version isn’t as great as when it first came out. But you still smell fabulous.
Hmmm. I have only a sample from LS which is probably the new. I love it!
Yep I adore it also. I don’t find it sad or melancholy either, perhaps when you wear it often it changes up your mood. I receive frequent compliment on it.
It’s a precise perfume and unusual. I must admit it purchased it because of the back story which was my way of grieving privately while still being seen.
You smell amazing!
A great description is right!
I needed a bit more of a hug than a garden scent would provide this morning, so I went with Zoologist Bee. Except I can’t smell it because I seem to be all plugged up. (If you’ve smelled the powerhouse that is Bee, you will understand how ludicrous that is.) Why am I plugged up? I haven’t been near another non-cohabiting human in months. Hopefully it’s just allergies + lack of sleep. And hopefully I will be able to go back to smelling Bee again soon.
My spring allergies have definitely been worse this year. Hugs.
*Hugs*
It’s been a bad allergy season here in southeastern Pennsylvania, and from what others in the area say, in New Jersey also. My nose is stuffed up sometimes, and dried out sometimes, depending what allergies (several kinds of tree pollen, etc.) I’m reacting to or which allergy medicine I’ve taken. But I’ve had enough sense of smell to enjoy smelling the roses.
Not as bad here for me re: allergies now. I think a huge part of it was the roofers taking off old shingles on buildings near me. Now that they are working downwind, things have improved quite a bit.
Glad your allergies are better. 🙂 I bet the roofers stirred up a lot of mold and mildew and such when they took old shingles off the roofs.
Hugs to you Koyel! My husband is really suffering with allergies this season too. I take a zyrtek everynight and it has been helping. Hope you are back to smelling soon! 🙂
Yes, allergies. Ugh. Spring is the worst for me.
Hope that your sniffer is back to rights very soon Koyel!
I hope you are feeling back to normal soon. You created a lemming for me with Bee a couple days ago; it sounds really lovely! I see they have a travel spray available.
Giverny in Bloom to match an idyllic sparkling day in my neck of the woods.
How nice!
Tried a spray of Clinique Calyx this morning. Thanks, Koyel! 🙂 This one is a fruity floral. I find it pleasant, and a little refreshing in the warm weather. 🙂
One flowering tree I forgot to mention again over the weekend that’s still blooming in the yard is the sweet bay magnolia. That has a fantastic perfume. 🙂
The ‘Leda’ damask rose is blooming. Noting that it’s the type with white inner petals. I think that’s the more common type in the U.S.? I believe that the type with pink inner petals and red outer petals is the more common type in Great Britain. Rose growers, feel free to correct me.
The alba rose ‘Maiden’s Blush’ is blooming. That has a wonderful fragrance. In addition to the white color one would think from hearing “alba,” some alba roses come in pink. ‘Botzaris’ had a few flowers. ‘Rosa Mundi’, the pink-and-white striped Gallica rose, is starting to bloom. Some of it is reverting back to the dark pink Apothecary’s Rose, a.k.a. the Red Rose of Lancaster. Some roses tend to have a good number of sports, and Rosa gallica officinalis is noted for being one that’s had several over the centuries.
Also, very pretty teapot! 🙂
I am so glad you are enjoying it 🙂 and your roses sound marvelous.
Yes, thank you. 🙂
Your roses sound so beautiful! Lucky!
You’re close enough to drive over sometime when it’s not raining and/or 90 degrees out and have a socially distant look at the yard. 🙂 This part of Pennsylvania is in the “yellow zone” instead of the “red zone” now. I’m still being careful about wearing a mask and trying to keep some distance between me and people I don’t live with, but I don’t get too stressed unless I’m at a grocery store.
I told Koyel I’d try to get pictures this year. I’ve taken pictures of my roses in late May of previous years. I had a ‘General Jacqueminot’ rose for a couple of years, but I think someone *koff*Dad*koff* ran over it with the lawnmower. It did have a very beautiful fragrance. I remember giving Dad a hard time for a while early in my Old Garden Rose collecting when he killed ‘Cardinal de Richelieu’ with the lawnmower. Now I put labels or garden stakes by my shorter plants. Someone else mentioned doing that the other day to try to save plants from her husband’s mowing.
Please take pictures and put them on flickr!
Really what I should do is learn to use Instagram. I started a Tumblr account years ago to be able to put up pictures of my roses and other flowers that we had in the yard. I think I also put up pictures I’d taken at Longwood Gardens. Then I wandered off in other directions with it. I remember having some discussion with an author who insisted that it was only fair for a reader to read an entire book before they decided they didn’t like it. Um, no. But I prefer being able to talk or type in several paragraphs at a time, and having more control over the process.
I’m in Eau Premiere. I had a long and crummy day yesterday so I’m hoping today is better. I never even got to drink my morning tea, lol.
Apparently we are in line for the remnants of tropical storm Cristobal today.
That’s a bad day with no morning tea, hope today gets better!
Joining you in the line of Cristobal. Stay safe!
Stay safe! I’m in florida and we got some tornadoes from Cristobal. Scary stuff!
Stay safe and dry madtowngirl!
Sampling D600 and Rima XI today. I bought a few different Carner samples a while back…wasn’t wowed by them particularly but I am revisiting b/c vanilla.
D600 is my favourite Carner
Tommy Girl, not in the garden today in perfume, but I was tending to my tomato plants this morning.
This is my first real go at a garden in years, hopefully I’ll get lots of tomatoes but I have really enjoyed growing the plants from seeds and smelling the leaves.
Tommy Girl is very pretty. Nice work with the seeds!
We are hoping for a good tomato year too! We started from seeds saved from last year’s tomatoes. (I say we, but really I mean my husband did all of it.)
Today I am wearing Bandit!
Nice.
I’ve kept it simple yesterday and today in vintage Coty Muguet des Bois. A friend gave me a couple of LOTV plants several weeks ago; I’m hoping to keep them corraled in a pot, so as not to overtake the garden. (This is the same friend who last year gave me a potted herb — lemon mint? — that escaped and spread everywhere! Does that stuff get sown by air or something?). We’ll see…
That sounds like a great friend 🙂 I’d love some LOTV in my garden!
And so I hope you shall have some! (along with a quickly unplugged sniffer, of course). My grandmother died before I was old enough to form memories of her, but the LOTV in her garden were still there when I was a kid; I loved them, and they “remind” me of her to this day.
Oh how sweet 🙂
LOTV adapts nicely to living in a container. I have a pot that is going on 10 years now.
Mint definitely needs to be in a container, or it will rampage through a garden!
Agreed! Mint needs to be well contained or it will spread everywhere.
Good luck with the lily-of-the-valley. I like when that spreads, but where the pink lily-of-the-valley is growing, there’s space for it to spread under the trees. I have a white lily-of-the-valley plant in a pot, and that came through the winter fine, and bloomed this year.
If you mean lemon balm, a close relative of mint, it spreads by seeds and runners. And yes, it can take over a garden. (Ask me how I know. lol) The good thing about lemon balm and mint and bee balm (another relative) is that those roots that let it spread out so much are shallow, so it’s not difficult to pull the plants that have wandered too far up by the roots. Oh, there’s also a mint called orange mint, a.k.a. eau de cologne mint. Like most mints, that spreads fast. If you have a mint in a pot with a hole in the bottom, the roots can come out of the hole and into the ground.
Lilacs! After my shower I applied Pacifica’s lilac-scented lotion, and then just now FM’s En Passant. Just a splash left at the bottom of my bottle. I suspect that I will finish it today. Love it, but it is so fleeting that I’ve been applying it in huge quantities. . . and then poof, its gone.
I am spraying in huge quantities no matter if its fleeting or not..
I am in 8 sprays of Shalimar light today. Can you smell me in Oakland?
I am in my 3rd book of the Ferrante series.
I find Lila to be a very complex character and I think at one point I found her so vindictive that I wanted to throw the book out the window..
Yes, I really didn’t like her.
Did you read the whole series ?
Yes
I only read the first book–which I loved! I cannot smell you–please apply more perfume. 😉
Lots of sprays is the way to go when social distancing! I mean, sillage just got a whole new dimension.
SOTM is Phlur Olmstead & Vaux which is named after the designers of Central Park in NYC.
… but it’s not working for me today. For some reason I’m getting burnt sesame seeds. Will have to scrub….
Olmstead & Vaux did one of the large parks near me here in Montreal too. 🙂
Ew! Burnt sesame seeds doesn’t sound appealing at all.
SOTD is Volutes. One of my top 10.
How nice, EDP or EDT?
Arquiste Anima Dulcis, from the swap meet – no garden correlation I can find for this one. I find that now that I’m not working ftf (and atm not really working a whole lot at any rate), I really like “edible” scents a lot more than my office scents, which are often brisk florals.
Happy Tuesday!
You smell great, I looove Anima Dulcis.
SOTD = Maison Lancome Parfait de Roses
Sweet, very sweet, did I say sweet, you must like sweet, creamy rose vanilla. Woo hoo! Here’s Victoria EauMG’s review:
https://www.eaumg.net/lancome-parfait-de-roses-perfume-review/
Two of you from the swapmeet have this in your package!
I worked quite a bit later than intended yesterday. I will get to split emails today.
I will definitely be splitting 2 bottles of Hiram Green Vivacious and have 15 mLs left for dibsing. If interested, head on over to the Splitmeet thread, link to follow in a separate comment.
Splitmeet link:
https://nstperfume.com/2020/06/06/the-splitmeet-episode-13/
I got your package last night! Thank you! Since you mention it, I decided to try the Parfait de Roses. Yes, very sweet, but I like it. 🙂
Yay!
You smell yummy, love Parfait de Roses!
I had forgotten how much I enjoyed until I was decanting for the swapmeet!
I’m impressed that you can do sweet perfumes in this weather! Right now, I want dry, drier, and dryest!
I am ensconced in air conditioned bliss all day and while I made a last decision to walk after work, to include a stop at Wegmans, it bloomed in the heat.
Almost all the Maisonette Lancôme are very sweet. Lavande Trianon and Santal Kardamom are the other two I am familiar with – also sweet. (Do I love the lavender as a cosy evening scent though!)
Ans I don’t even recall these 2…sounds like must try!
SOTD is Armani Piovine Suzhou; a straight up girly peony. My allergies have been kicking in, so I am wearing my lighter scents!
Sorry about the allergies Katrina! I think the pollen where I am is slowing down (at least, judging from my son’s symptoms).
Thanks!!
I”m still undecided about scent for today. Will have to check in later to report. Meanwhile, people here might enjoy this wonderful array of mid-century Avon ads, many featuring fragrances. It’s from the fashion site I read every day, Tom and Lorenzo. They comment on how white it was, which is true, but nevertheless I was surprised to see them featuring even some ads with Black women. https://tomandlorenzo.com/2020/06/ding-dong-avon-calling-vintage-ads/
It seems like a simpler world, enjoyed the videos.
Thanks for sharing! Very enjoyable!
Nice!
This is the time of year when I venture out at night with light-weight pruning shears and carrier bag in search of low-hanging Magnolia grandiflora flowers to (shhh!) steal. Although, really, if they are hanging over the sidewalk, they are public property, right? ?
HA!
LOL! My husband offered to do this for me during lilac season.
Good man!
I did pinched off a few sprigs of lilac in passing during the spring, which was enough for me.
?⚔
I searched for a robber emoji, or even a raccoon, and found neither, but didn’t think of swords! Thanks!
They are in CA! 😀 As such, I ended up with a gorgeous bagful of tart plums last week.
You are reminding me that I had the best plums in Seattle in September 2016. It’s killing me that I can’t remember the variety or the orchard, because they did say they would ship. The flesh was pale but reddish just under the peel, crisp and sweet but not insipid. Sigh!
That sounds simply marvelous!
I had some Countess Grey tea from Fortnums for breakfast, just to cheer the boyfriend before he went to the hospital. He will not get a nice cup there.
SOTD is vintage Gucci No3, because all those Chypres tend to ground me
Hoping everything will go smoothly, a cup of tea makes everything better.
Wishing the best to your boyfriend!
Great tea choice. Wishing him all the best!
That is my favorite Fortnum tea.
Thinking of you guys!
I’m not doing very well on CP points this week so far. Last night I wore Dryad, which is more forest than garden, and today I’m in Nanadebary Bronze (no garden in sight there either). Later this week my plans include 24, Faubourg and Jour d’Hermes which are more garden-like in a floral kind of way … and if this cold weather continues (I just had to bring the space heater down to my little home office because my fingers were getting too cold to type) I may even indulge in Alahiiiiine for more floral goodness.
I have had zero-point weeks…
Was in Anisia Bella during the day but the weather is not hot enough for it yet. This evening it’s the turn of Liz Earle Essence No 1 which is a lot like Annick Goutal Eau du Sud and Clarins Eau Dynamisante but without the problematic cumin. Wonderfully aromatic, wonderful citrus too, in fact Liz Earle fragrances are great and should be better known.
Sounds really good. What are your other Liz Earle picks?
I have No 9 a really well done ffuity chypre and No 15 is on my wishlist, very herbal but also resinous. The other two No 20 and 100 are pretty florals but not as original. Th whole line is 96 to 98% natural ims, the wuality of the ingredients is outstanding and they are also affordable. Aroun £50 for 50ml and sometimes on sales.
quality not wuality, typing on my phone.
Thanks for the information!
Ooh, Eau du Sud is one of my very favorites so I must add this to my test list!
I hope you can sample it soon, it’s at its best in warm months.
I really liked the Liz Earle, I reviewed it ages ago and then mostly forgot it.
So glad you were positive about it too, the Good thing is it’s still around. It should be rated much higher, it’s a little gem.
Just back from a 31 mile bike ride! The longest I’ve ever done! Current scent is Coriander and sweat, but I’ll look for something garden inspired after the shower.
Well Done. That’s a big’n for sure, I usually just do 20 per ride.
You earned something special missionista.
Congratulations.
Kudos to you! ?
that’s fantastic bike ride good news! 😀
Go missionista!!
SotD = Jardins de Bagatelle + Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat
Joining pl67 in Jardins today. Almost typed aujourd’hui there, which makes me feel silly. My franglish is weaker with each passing year. I was never very fluent, but once in a while it comes back at an odd moment, especially when reading and writing.
Top ups of EdFdC to keep cool are the order of the day. I was tickled by a mention of three of my most favorite Guerlain colognes over at Bois de Jasmin yesterday. 😀 😀 😀
Hi twin! We smell wonderful!
**waves** ah, Jardins de Bagatelle, it’s so pretty here 😀
I find that once I start in a language my brain continues the sequence, so I have French & English words that pop up too. 🙂
isn’t it fun and funny? c’est une drôle de chose, le franglais 😉
Oh my gosh that is the MOST GORGEOUS tea pot!
I am so happily distracted by the split meet.
Commando but
Io by Chris Rusak after my yard work is done.
If you like blue and white china, you could have fun on the Caskata site!
Disgustingly hot here. I’m in EL BG, but there’s no beach in sight.
I had to leave the AC to run some errands and ugh! I feel like I need another shower. Even T-Tex is overwhelmed with lassitude. I guess that’s why they call these the “dog days of summer.”
Next week it’s supposed to drop down to the 70’s. I’m staying inside until then. Hope everyone is enjoying the heat more than I am.
Sending a bit of frost and some frozen puddles your way!
I’ll take anything you can send, thanks!
And it’s not even July yet!
I KNOW! ?
Passing you a virtual pint of ice cream!
9 June is the 150th anniversary of Charles Dickens death so my garden scent is Death and Decay, thinking of Miss Haversham in her mansion. Keep warm everyone!
Very à propos. I’m nice and warm here in my menopausal hot flashes. 🙂
🙂 🙂
For both of you, you’ve made my day!
This! On top of the heat- just shoot me now. Please. ?
Argh! Hot flashes SUCK!
Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir layered with Wood Sage & Sea Salt
Imagining myself in an Italian garden, walking on warm and dusty paving stones surrounded by chamomile, that I occasionally step on, and also smelling flowers that are blooming in the distance. Wearing many spritzes of Gucci Memoire D’Une Odeur.
Wow, I am there with you.
I had a box arrive from The Republic of Tea earlier this afternoon, so things are looking pretty good today! Had to re-order the Hi-Caf Gingermint Green Tea… since the weather has warmed up, it’s been a daily beverage. It’s got more “oomph” than regular green tea, but isn’t a caffeine monster.
SOTD = Soivohle Geranium Rose Mint Extrait de Parfum, from the sample stash. This smells like an herb garden at the height of summer, with aromatic herbs and a geranium plant nearby. Definitely a cologne style fragrance, despite being an extrait. Of course, I decide that I want a bottle of this shortly after I had already placed an order there. Story of my perfumed life. ?
That Soivohle sounds wonderful!
I’m waiting on my Republic of Tea blueberry lavender, it makes great iced tea.
Late today, but smelling good in Jasmine from Lili Bermuda….I bought this on my last trip to Bermuda as a souvenir of my visit. Had tea in the garden behind the Lili Bermuda shop, so I think it must be double points for the CP. Stay cool friends.
how lovely to be in Bermuda, even in memory 🙂
Side by side comparison of Diptyque Eau Duelle and AP Couleur Vanille today. Like both. Eau Duelle is spicy and has more of a scent journey while Coloeur Vanille is more addictive.
No credit point. Unless I can convince someone that I was on a vanilla plantation…
I really need to try the CV. Is it much heaver than ED?
Not heavier, just more straightforward Vanilla. I find CV transparent and light. I am enjoying the sample very much.
Thanks!
It is oppressively hot out there, 97 degrees. I’m in Mandarine Basilic, from a decant, and just might wear this one until it is thunked.
That teapot is gorgeous, Robin! Lemming……..
Do go look at the Caskata site! I might have to order one of the travel mugs, but there are patterns I like even better than the peony.
I finally got cleaned up and put on perfume. I chose Calligraphy Rose and am in a spicy jammy red rose garden.
Yum.
My 2ml of St Clair Song of Aubrac came yesterday evening!
But I was a disorganized unshowered mess this morning and wanted to get to the pull-up bar before the afternoon workout crowds, so I slapped on some Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensée instead.
I’ll take a shower once I’m done cooking pizza (white pizza with spinach, mushroom and preserved lemon, honey and black pepper flavor sausage) and in all honesty probably go with Fat Electrician for the evening. I want Song of Aubrac to accompany me during the day tomorrow!
Wore 1 tiny spray of Un Jardin Sur le Toit this morning. It was very potent on me, I nearly scrubbed it off. I kept getting a dirty water note (which is a big no-no). Then about 8 hours later it finally got to the dry down which was fantastic!
Ugh, I get that same dirty vase water from Un Jardin Après le Mousson. 8 hours is a long time to wait for a gorgeous drydown.
