Thursday scent of the day 6/4

Posted by Robin on 4 June 2020 262 Comments

Almost-Friday and Hug Your Cat Day. (PSAs: Your cat might not want a hug. The splitmeet is coming up on Saturday! And if you missed yesterday's scent of the day, please be aware that we are trying to do a better job of avoiding biased political speech.) What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm smelling cheerful and summery in Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus.

Reminder: on 6/5, wear a perfume with osmanthus, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m in Fate today. I’ll hug my dog since I am sans kitty at the moment.

Same here (sans kitty). The dog gets way more hugs and kisses than I think she would prefer.

Mine is strategically affectionate. Specifically, when it’s time for her am and pm kibble bowl. She’s such a manipulator ??

You also get the eyes of lurve, sometimes with a little helping of side eye when you’re not looking.

    Good morning!

No scent of the day yet, but I’ve got several more osmanthus fragrances to try this week. 🙂

Virtual *hugs* to those who need them. I think a lot of us feel a need for hugs lately. 🙂

    Take care, NST folks! <3

Most people really don’t do well when they’re living in isolated circumstances. Human touch from friends and family members you get along with is important for emotional well-being, from what I’ve been reading about it.

I remember hugs…when I lived in California, everyone was hugging each other all the time, and I got so annoyed with the round of hugs every time anyone arrived at or left a party. Now I really miss hugs…

I have often thought that if I were going to embark on a PhD, it would be to figure out how kids have so much energy. There are real physiological differences:

Santal Massoia works really well on me. I also really liked CDG’s Concrete, which is “deconstructed sandalwood”.

Many sandalwood perfumes smell like pickles on me. Stash? Dill. Santal 33? Dill, dill and a third dose of dill.

Osmanthus week, day 4. Amouage Journey. Sweet, syrupy apricot and soft leather. It is somewhat similar to Daim Blond (before it was reformulated), although it is not DM’s smellalike. Same idea, different interpretation. Enjoing it!

My Mr. Teebear caved last week but he is also an impatient person/wanted to do some of the trimmer work himself… Why, when I have 10x more experience cutting my own hair, do not ask me.

Considering the odds were stacked against me it does NOT look bad.

I, on the other hand, was sitting there looking at 2+ months cuttings of his gorgeous thick hair and how it was more hair than I have on my entire head going “Whyyyyy?!”

Wearing Nasomatto Nuda pre shower. Just made a vet appointment for Sydney while I was budgeting. I am expecting it to be in the range of $130 to $150. So in the meantime, I have no fun money and have to cut back a little bit on food but will be asking about the 2nd “rally” pay that is coming my way and when I will get that. I hope I get in in the next week to offset the vet. Post shower, I will wear no 19 again but in edt form.

Hi all! My SOTD is Amouage Dia, my last few drops are gone. *Thunk*
    It’s lovely, but I won’t replace it.
For bed, I finished Jo Malone’s English Oak & Redcurrant *Thunk*

Had a good night’s sleep but still tired. I need to juice up with coffee and put the walking shoes on. Mr. SmokeyToes is home today (and a little grumpy), hopefully a walk will cheer him up.

I was thinking about wearing TDC Osmanthus, but my hand went to my decant of Guerlain AA Anisia Bella. Exactly what I needed on this hot, muggy day. Herbal, airy, refreshing scent. So bad it was discontinued. This is one of my favorites AA along with Herba Fresca.

It is great, indeed. I don’t get much licorice, but the anise is very prominent. It is a very green scent and it lasts for many hours. Very unfortunate that the AA’s get discontinued all the time.

Hi All! Today I’m in Dior Grand Bal. I also used my new Caress shower gel in Rose&Ylang. I smell great!
    Funny kid story-
Yesterday my son came home from his neighborhood walk. He comes through the door and says Mom, don’t worry I’m ok. So of course I immediately freak out thinking something awful happened. Then he says. ” I got a little hurt social distancing”
” I was walking on the sidewalk and a lady and her dog were also on the sidewalk, when I tried to social distance, I walked into the tree”
    LOL! He’s definitely his mother’s son ?
He has a pretty good scrape on his arm but is otherwise fine. Please note that my son was being totally serious when telling me this.
Oh and last night his virtual graduation was held. I still am hoping they can do something else at another time.

I hope they can have a real ceremony later too…maybe at the end of the summer? A virtual graduation is nice, but can’t replace that feeling of walking across the stage and getting your diploma, knowing your family is in the audience cheering for you. It’s also a proud mom moment!

We had an outdoor socially distanced graduation this morning. It was hotter than blazes by the time we were into the Ms, but it was sooooo nice to see students and for them to see each other! I hope your district can figure out a way to hold a safe real ceremony.

I just realized that I don’t wear perfume to Zoom meetings. I also have noticed that I want to social distance my car. ???‍♀️
I might wear Rendezvous later (after my Zoom meeting ?), but I’m in the mood for jasmine after reading Lucasai’s review today of Jasmin de Pays. I thought I still had a sample, but nope! Oh well, I have many others to choose from. Hugs to all!

I originally read social distanced your cart and I though What? DonI have to subject Holly to my death stare? While shopping, I’ve seen people social distancing themselves from their shopping carts, which is really selfish because that blocks access to at least twice the grocery real estate!

I’ve noticed more social distancing of cars…there are so few out there; however, I find myself being extra cautious, more so than usual, because I have seen more cars with more major damage!

Twins with Robin today in OJ Osmanthus – thunked the sample, and oh my is this gorgeous. It obviously was my favorite of the discovery set since it’s the one that was closest to thunkage, but somehow I never sought out more – must have been distracted by the hundreds of other samples accumulated over the years. This might have to be my next purchase … if it’s still in production. Anyway (fwiw), happy Friday Eve everyone!

On the good side, the stress about not getting a Russian visa in time is gone (the consulate in DC is closed,) but the bad side is that I was really looking forward to seeing Kamchatka. Maybe next year.

I have been playing along with the CP this week (mostly) just haven’t had time to comment (work!!!!) or even read (now that’s just wrong). Monday was L’Occitane Figuier & Osmanthe which is pretty much all fig (not a bad thing); Tuesday was… I forget already; Wednesday was April Aromatics Liquid Dreams which just didn’t work so it got scrubbed and replaced with Atelier des Ors Pomelo Riviera, which later got replaced with Guerlain Cologne Imperiale (thanks Holly!). Today is PdN Fig Tea.

Now back to the salt mines….

Aloha to my peeps! I feel like I have been gone for a MONTH!
I have been busy doing household projects.
I have news: I am a NEW WOMAN with my 1st MANICURE in 2.5 months. Hallelujah. UGH ugly hands will really do psychological damage.
I am happily swimming in Pandora from St Clair Scents. YUM- I need to research the notes again as I have forgotten but this is sooooo refreshing and layers well over my LLIris 39 body creme.
Yesterday I wore Song of Aubrac by St Clare Scents and THAT was delicious – I want to compare it to AuDeLa Narcisse which I haven’t opened yet and do a side by side comparison.
I must hug my cat today.
I must hug my dear friends baby Tonkinese kitty today as well and then stick him in my purse while he still fits and make a run for it. What deep love moves my heart at the face of this little guy. I could easily be that crazy cat lady next door. It could happen yet.
    Be well All.

        pruning and weeding our yard,
emptying our greenhouse (which has some fruit trees badly in need of a healthy bath),
        cleaning the outdoor furniture,

Good for you Robin, that really gives one a sense of accomplishment. Trim work takes more time and concentration and is very soothing to me somehow.
I have a long list that we didn’t get to in the fall.
The greenhouse can be a real challenge as it gets to 100 degrees by mid morning usually in April. We have reflective covers for the roof but truthfully have been known to hose down the building multiple times a day to regulate the heat. Then there’s the issue of water for over wintering plants and heaters….. so you may be better off ? than you think. I have seen kumquat trees but never eaten the fruit.

    SotD = Breath of God

Wearing the spray perfume this time, it matches the solid perfume exactly. 🙂 It’s an odd fragrance, and I’m craving the unusual.

Thank you to the generous swap friends here at NST. Sharing (perfume and otherwise) is a civilized antidote to the vagaries of life.

Lately I’ve given away a lot of perfume IRL too, hoping to make it easier to enjoy what I have. But it seems there is an unspoken equilibrium in the perfume inventory, and it won’t budge. Cast your perfume upon the waters, even so the universe seeks balance.

Oddly, I can still smell the remains of yesterday’s Cedre Sambac. It is a light and transparent fragrance, but there’s some alchemy at work making it waft, disappear, and reappear.

Have a thankful Thursday fragrance friends! I’m thankful all of you are here.

I’m currently commando because the Wood Sage and Sea Salt I applied at 6:00 am has long worn off. I think I’ll apply something by Lush when I get up – What would love do? currently is in my head, so I suspect it will be that.

We had a graduation ceremony this morning. It was incredible to see all of our seniors, and to hear the speakers talk about everything they missed that they had been looking forward to since their freshmen year and to understand a bit of how they felt. I am so excited that young adults like these are going out into the world full of passion, talent and dreams because they are going to make it a much better place.

I always throw out my mascara on graduation day and New Year’s Eve (after applying my party makeup.) This year, I unconsciously managed to time finishing my WSSS bottle so that there was two application’s worth when I woke up this morning. One was for graduation, the other will be tomorrow for the last day of this school year.

This has definitely been the worst year in my teaching career. Even before COVID-19, we had to deal with a lot of unusually stressful situations (gun at school, yay) and with the switch to online learning, losing the real connection that I had with my students was heartbreaking. I am going to be so happy to close the book on this year.

    Sorry for the novel!

It is heartbreaking for the seniors this year. My local high school did graduation over several days, observing all the COVID practices. At least the students got to walk across the stage and had their pics taken…not the same as celebrating together but better than nothing. They also did a motor parade through town and residents stood along the route to waive and applaud. Keep your chin up, summer is almost here.

Although I’m working from home several days each week, its still a grind. I am wearing Fig Tea by Nicolai today and wore Rahele yesterday. I did a hajusurri application of 8 sprays just now. One of the perks of working from home.
Now, I need to go hug my cat.
I hope everyone is safe and healthy.

Pretty sure I would have died already if not for my cat. She’s not really snuggly/huggy, but she does love being petted. The need to touch another living creature is so strong; I’m really grateful to have her.

I’m sorry for my neglect of you all over the past several months. I’ve popped by occasionally, not really to read, but just to scroll through and feel reassured to see familiar names in the comments. It’s strange, but events personal and global have felt so overwhelming that I haven’t been able to push words (virtual or otherwise) past all the lumps in my throat… I haven’t been here for you… but I’m glad you’ve had each other! 🙂

Big warm snuggly hugs to all —

My male cat is not snuggly either. In fact he just uses me for food and to play the mousie game and then totally snubs me. But I do grab him occasionally and hold him for about 10 seconds (and remind him that he needs to indulge me if he wants to keep living here, lol).

I’m listening to Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and trying to de-stress. Went grocery shopping at 7am, before drinking my tea, which was foolish. The store was rearranging everything, which was also foolish, IMHO.
We are apparently having an aluminum shortage, so the soda aisle looked pretty bleak. But the eggs were no longer being rationed, YAY! I’ll take the little wins where I can find them.
I’m in Papillon Angelique, which has osmanthus listed in the notes. I’m noticing something suede-like in the drydown, but not a bunch.

There are a couple of articles about it out there. The hubster is going to another grocery store in a few days, so we’ll see, I guess.

My nearest grocery store reorganized last year, and I could never have imagined how stressful that could be! Honestly, my head hurt trying to shop when everything was out of place.

Eggs are such a comfort food, and so easy to cook, so that is a win!

I’m not gonna attempt to hug Agnes. I don’t need the scars. Everything has to be on her terms, the little diva. As I drank coffee on the couch this morning, she jumped up, stood next to me, fixed me a stare and meowed quite loudly. That means, “pet me.” Which I do. When I stop she leaves. No interest in snuggling next to me unless I’m petting her. She’s now snoozing at the other end of the couch on her blanket.

Baiser de Russie today…because I’m considering a split, even though I shouldn’t and already have a 15 ml decant. The bottles are huge so work out to close to $2.5 per ml.

When it’s bedtime, I lay a throw blanket on her side of the couch. So, I think it’s now considered her blanket. It’s very cute. Sometimes she’s already on the couch, so she has to get up, walk over to the other side while I put the blanket down and then walk back and lay down once I’m done.

I’m flying this morning to see my mother! I had to cancel the visit I had booked in March, and I’m so relieved to be able to see her now.
My travel will be accompanied with Guerlain’s Bois d’Armenie, and I’ll read everyone’s comments in the airport in a little while 🙂

Writing Lyrical Poetry- love the name. It’s whimsical with its sweet berry notes, but not unsophisticated. Not too sweet and has some delicate, soapy florals hovering in there. Reminds me a little of Hendley Amora, but softer and more floral.

… because tannina wore it yesterday! And bottle porn.

The continuing saga of yesterday’s Zoom bombing cat — apparently, the owner is allergic to cats so: 1. He doesn’t love the cat is not far-fetched, 2. It probably belongs to his wife and 3. I am not getting the warm and fuzzies on the relationship dynamics …

In other news, I just got a postcard today that the Lupus Foundation will be sending donation pickup trucks on June 19th. I’m really surprised but won’t complain. I will call to get more info on any precautions to take but it’s definitely a welcome turn of events!

My colleague who lives in PA had a tree limb fall in his grill. He also did not have power all day but he has a generator so he was able to continue working. If it happened to me, the only thing I can do is use my cell as a hot spot and probably only go for a few hours … I should check how much data is used on a typical hour and figure that out. It goes on the list of projects!

Just got out of Neimans. It was uncomfortable lol. You have to have an appointment and a sales person chaperones everywhere you go in the store. Masks required and they provided a box of gloves. I did not stay long at all. It was just odd haha. A person attached at the hip following everywhere you go. Lol. They said they will not be opening till next month. I would definitely say it’s a very soft opening today here with some eateries open..not all. Not many ppl. No perfume stores open, very little boutiques..Chanel not open etc..or cosmetic stores. Several boutiques said June 15th they may open. Some didn’t have a date, just that they are still closed, like Lush. My favorite pizza place hangout also not open nor was Ethel M sadly lol. Some light gambling in the casinos. Lol a hot 107 degrees outside today!

So that is a bit of my experience today lol. Pretty slow overall. Neimans lady sprayed A La Rose MFK on me..so that is sotd:).

P.S. I totally splurged and purchsed a bottle of Rose Water liquor! That was my fun spending for the month pretty much as it wasn’t cheap. But I supported a local business, so there that. It’s like rosey turkish delight with a bit of vodka..it’s so beautiful lol. ??

Did the chaperon stay 6 feet away at all times? Did they think you were going to touch everything and then once touched they have to take each item off the floor for a thorough cleaning? Ugh!

SotD Akro Dark. I also ate an extraordinary amount of chocolate.

But: I got to do PULL-UPS for the first time in ten weeks today! Hooray slash horror!

I need to find a time when the neighborhood outdoor fitness area isn’t thronged with people though, and 4:30pm, as I should have known, is not it!

As gyms in my area are still mandated closed, some of them are clearly getting creative to help their clientele but I am all about the masks and disinfectant and distancing still, and so it was stressful to me to find group classes of 3-8 in a space that’s normally been pretty sparsely populated when I used it in previous years. Going to aim for 9am tomorrow and hope for crickets!

Did a Yoga with Adriene today, plus several timed plank poses on my mat to remind myself to keep up core strength. My gym is offering a couple of outdoor classes that don’t appeal–hoping they’ll schedule outdoor yoga.
Then they sent an email today saying that one-on-one personal training slots are available at the actual gym. No hanging around the lobby, only 1 client & trainer at a time at the whole facility. No mention of the cost. No locker facilities, which is fine, but the bathrooms are closed too. Glad they’re being careful, not sure I want to jump on it anytime soon.
