Tuesday scent of the day 5/26

Posted by Robin on 26 May 2020 257 Comments

It's Monday Tuesday and Miles Davis' birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm starting the week with partial credit for The People of the Labyrinths Luctor et Emergo, aka POTL.

Reminder: on 5/29, wear a perfume by The Different Company, Tauer Perfumes, Tokyo Milk, Tocca or Téo Cabanel, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter T.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Lol, it feels like a Monday, but I think it’s Tuesday.?
I’m in Eau Premiere. We caved and turned our air on last evening. I felt bad to do it considering we live with the windows shut all winter but it was 80 and stuffy in the house. I think we all slept better with the AC on.

Same for us. We usually get a couple weeks of >90F in the middle of the summer, but it’s unheard of for it to be so hot so early in the year. We’ve had the AC on yesterday and today!

Lol, I know you wouldn’t complain.?? Is 88 hot for this time of year? I don’t ever remember turning our air on this early. I was holding out but got peer pressured from the rest of my family.

We’ve resisted turning ours on for the most part as well, but had to yesterday. It was just too hot to sleep without it, even with the ceiling fan on. You smell lovely today.

We caved today — it is 90 (feels like 91) outside right now, and since our neighbor cut down a row of trees eighteen months ago, we get blasted by the afternoon sun. We will get some kind of shade rigged up to counteract that problem, but we were not expecting so much heat so early.

    This is hilarious.
We’ll just do a nice teapot tomorrow and pretend it’s Tuesday.

I’m wearing Histoires de Parfums 1826, which is a nice floriental. I got a sample set 10 years ago, or so, and am finishing them one by one. So far my favourite is still 1740.

    Tea is Festin d’Or

Yeah, there will be no teapot today! I had a marimekko poppy teapot planned so that might indeed be tomorrow.

I will join in a cup of Festin d’Or to mark my not knowing what day it is.

I wore 1725 (Casanova) and 1740 yesterday, one on each arm. I loved 1740 for about the first 20 minutes, but then it turned into something that did not mesh well with my skin — I eventually scrubbed it. Casanova, OTOH, disappeared, although perhaps that was only in comparison.

And so glad you are liking MBF. I really enjoyed the HBO series but glad I read all the books first. (Also glad it had been a few years, so I did not have to focus on every difference or omission from the books.)

I have not read anything else by Ferrante, but was thinking I might try her new one, Lying Life of Adults.

Spent the morning in vintage BaV. Was in contact with Luckyscent yesterday. My bottle arrived on Sunday and everything looked fine except the spray mechanism. I don’t think it was put on right. The rubber base looked off and when I went to apply on Sunday night, inside the top was coated in perfume and some dribbled on the bottle. Luckyscent is sending me a new bottle with a return label for the leaky bottle. They agreed that I shouldn’t have to pay $160 for a perfume that is leaking and evaporating out of the bottle. Wearing Avignon today. Funny how I was waiting for warmer weather but got hot instead.

Seems like it’ll be a beautiful day. My alarm woke me from a bizarre dream where I was at our church ready to make sandwiches but tons of people showed up and were all milling about…some with masks, many without. Both inside and outside on a lawn (we have no lawn…it’s a NYC church!). People from various parts of my life, including former work colleagues. Total chaos. I was shaking my head after the alarm woke me. Crazy COVID dream I guess.

Wearing Beach Walk. This is actually a really nice scent. The notes don’t list salt, but to me it has a salt air note. I don’t get any coconut just more citrusy salt. Very beachy.

Dreams can be so bizarre. I had one over the weekend in which my mother’s sister was pregnant … at the age of 92. (My mom is an only child. ) I’ve been re-reading Dune at bedtime — may have to stop. :)

Oh! Re-reading Dune is something I’ve done every handful of years for three decades now. Good reading!

I’m excited to see the new movie version, even if it’s awful. Stylistically looks like it will be good. Hard to compress that story into 2-3 hours of film.

It’s funny…I never remember my dreams and I don’t really feel like I have many anxiety dreams but last week I dreamt we had taken my daughter somewhere like a kid event of some type and we were outside and I started to look around and realized no one was wearing masks and everyone was too close. And then it felt like a horror movie and I started to freak out and wonder why we were here and why there were no masks etc. and I woke up in a panic and was relieved it was just a dream.?

I don’t remember my dream but this morning, upon waking up at 6, I was horrified that wasn’t going to get the early train, but realized I am working from home, which then lead to asking if all the COVID stuff was just a long dream.

Dryad for me today. Am up and at the computer earlier than usual for some reason, and have to go in to the office after-hours today, so will take an extended lunch break and do some home pilates to try to straighten out a few misalignments after a spill down our deck stairs a few days ago. Luckily it’s only two steps, but slippery treads plus broken handrail equals Extra Pilates Homework. And a couple of bruises. Could have been much, much worse.

Ouf those stair tumbles are the worst!!! The worn 150+yr old stairs in our apartment are painted with glossy paint and I cannot understand who decided this was a good idea, Mr. Teebear and I have both tanked near the bottom of them before! Hope your bruises fade quickly and that the Pilates gets you back to feeling normal.

Wearing the lovely green and cool Chanel No. 19 today. It seems like we went from cool rainy spring to summer humoggity overnight. I am craving Bel Respiro, but sadly am on a no-buy until my birthday in November. (By which time I will be craving something else, I’m sure.)

Have actually had some time to read for fun lately. Finished Milkman by Anna Burns, which I really enjoyed. Am also halfway through 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which I haven’t read since junior high. I think I’m enjoying it even more now. I was only in it for the adventure then, but I think I understand the character of Captain Nemo much better now.

I’m in Bvlgari Omnia today, just because.

    In NPRN (Non-perfume related news):

Rain and more rain here. Other than a brief appearance or two for about an hour, the sun has refused to shine for the past two weeks. The end result is every color green imaginable and buds, flowers, and blooms galore!

Who knew screws could hold up a project for 4 days? Not me. After multiple trips to Lowe’s and Home Depot (where hardly anyone was wearing a mask despite the posted instructions at the entryway) and multiple dollars, I have finally come up with a solution. So. Today, I’m fixing in place some decorative, functional storage to help me stay organized in the Black Hole my van has become.

Yesterday morning, I was awoken pre-dawn by some loud banging and scrabbling noises. In my half awake state. I determined no one was trying to break in, and went back to sleep. Later, I went take out the kitchen trash and realized all the racket was make by a bear trying to break into the outdoor garbage bin. There was a bag of very ripe garbage in there from about 5 days ago and it must have been irresistible to Yogi Bear ? (Also, for anyone who saw the bear standing up pulling at tree leaves video on my insta a few weeks ago, I just learned that’s a cherry tree. Smart cub must have remembered from last year where he/she got some tasty treats). Where was T-Rex during this hullabaloo?

    Sleeping. ?

    Smell well, y’all!

People are pretty careful to not attract unwanted attention from bears by putting garbage in bear proof bins and not leaving “edible” stuff out. The guy who keeps the grounds here told me a funny/true/scary story about his encounter with this same bear last year.

In my bespoke orchid perfume from Singapore. I put it away for the winter/spring after a few attempts, as it really wears best in warm weather, but we’re headed to 31° (88°F for you Americans) today! I love warm weather.

I stayed up way too late yesterday reading… someone recommended the Webtoon Lore Olympus to me two days ago. OBSESSED. It’s the first time I’ve genuinely enjoyed a serialized comic. It was 1am before I knew it last night, even though I’d gotten up at 7:30am to tune into a live Zoom conference.

    SOTD: 31 Rue Cambon

I was wondering why I wasn’t feeling as yuck as I normally do going back to work and then I realized it was Tuesday and not Monday – ha! Not to complain as I’m still working and have a good job but, WFH has its unique challenges and there’s still much up in the air.

Did quite a bit of bike riding this weekend; ate watermelon, lobster, and enjoyed fun drinks! Made it work even if no big getaway.

Had the best day yesterday, saw my sister in person for the first time in two months (we only live about 20 miles from each other and usually get together often). Sat far apart on her back deck with the family on what was a perfectly beautiful day and ate burgers and laughed till the sun went down. Didn’t know how much I missed human interaction–been living alone for nearly three months. I am blessed in my family and wish the same for all of you.

I really like the Hermes Concentre d’orange verte and concentre de pamplemousse rose. I got it a little late in the season last year so didn’t wear it much, but anticipate wearing You Or Someone Like You quite a bit. Also, I have several perfumes that are not colognes, but that seem to perform great in the summer heat and to me are just meh in the winter. For instance, A la rose. But even your fave, Shalimar, lights up in the summer (okay, maybe better for summer in the 80s, perhaps not great when the mercury rises into the 90s!).

    because it’s Monday-blunday-bluesday-tea-for-Tuesday. :D And it’s gonna be 86 degrees!

Enjoying the warmer weather, the heat feels good. I’ve turned into one of those cold-all-the-time people over the past year or so. Wore sweaters all though autumn and winter, now am hoping my reptilian blood keeps me cooler over the coming summer. Not many of the typical May gray cloudy mornings this month, I do wonder if this will be a scorching hot summer. I guess I should be careful what I wish for.

Be well fragrant friends, and don’t touch your face.

I’m wearing MFK APOM. I seem to be mostly wanting to wear very pretty floral and springy fragrances these days, and this fits the bill. Yesterday I was able to go and visit Mom. They brought her downstairs to a glass doorway and I was outside, and we could see each other, touch hands, and talk by phone. She seems OK, but somewhat confused as to why I couldn’t come in. Then this man Harry who is a 104-year-old WWII veteran came wheeling along and saw our situation and tried to open the door for us. It was well meant but set of a very loud shrieking alarm and the nurses came running. I told Mom to wish him a happy Memorial Day. Last night I made some delicious but somewhat time consuming Greek red lentil soup. It’s just messy because it was an enormous amount that had to be pureed in a blender. But it was good and now I’ve got containers of it to give away!

My job normally keeps me fit, so it’s not that I don’t like exercising, just, you know, normally I get paid for it, and don’t have to do it in my living room in which I spend nearly all my waking hours these days.

Eating is definitely, definitely the best though!

I had an ex that didn’t enjoy food and just saw it as a means to an end; in retrospect I have no idea how we ever got along.

Busy, busy day, but a beautiful, warm, sunny day outside.

Wearing the last drops of my decant of AdV Palissandre d’Or. I received a decant from a very generous NSTer a couple of months ago and I thought it was going to last me a long time. However, I felt deeply in love with it, to the point that I sprayed on some everyday since I received it. I don’t see it as a complex, astonishing perfume, but it has a simple, comforting, inviting beauty that made me crave for it daily.
So sad that travel sprays don’t seem to be available anymore ?, but it is now on top of my full bottle list. Let’s see what the future holds for me!

    Happy Tuesday! ?

A thunking may be heard in the next 2-3 wearings from my travel spray. No worries – BUB on hand and ready to be deployed!

In other news, swap meet is still open until Robin closes it today (or maybe tomorrow since today is Monday ?). I still have 31 Rue Cambon EDT 10mLs for a suggested donation to a feeding the hungry charity and the very very nice Puredistance Sample Set is still available.

Have decided on a round of using up some more samples and decants, my “travel” ones. Right now I am working on the tomato-leaf Hermes garden sample, which is pleasant, but no longer-lasting than the cheap-as-chips Demeter’s tomato-leaf.

Confusef by tbe lack of teapot as that’s really how I know what day it is. Bit it is my birthday today, and a biggie! And I’m stick in front of my work computer with a pile of work and loads of phone calls. This is the backlog when they do give you the holiday off.
But, I had a lovely family Zoom celebration on Sunday and my sister sent over a nice cake from a local Italian bakery (it had cannoli cream filling!) at my husband’s direction.
I’m wearing Paris-Riviera because it’s cheerful and matches the gorgeous day here.

Thanks, in all honesty, that one ricotta layer was tasty, but the rest of the cake was average birthday fare (vanilla cake with white icing that was kind of meh and a tad chemically tasting). But, I managed to finish off the 1/2 we kept!

Oh it was a surprise love, I purchased it many years ago at Nordstroms. It has beautiful powdery white florals without aldehydes, the geranium lends a slight herbal note without going soapy, and a great incense dry down, musk in the very far dry down. Similar to White Linen but without the “ladies who lunch” vibe. Oliver Cresp is the perfumer.
There were flankers, a rose one, I think. But I never got around to trying those.
This is a perfume I have a backup of, I get compliments on it every time I wear it….

Toasty toasty here this week! Broke out the EL Bronze Goddess Azur. It’s nice, sortof a calmer BG with a bit more jasmine and some salty notes.

I swapped my winter and summer perfumes over the weekend. I always think I have way more winter than summer scents, but that’s not really true. What is always true is that I sure do have a lot of perfume….

Happy Tuesday, friends! Bizarrely, the three-day weekend revitalized me; maybe it was going three days without meetings that is making me feel better. Anyway, it’s day 2 of 95degF weather out here in my part of CA. I chose to deal with it in Teo Cabanel Alahiiiiiiiine (following the CP!). A very kind NSTer sent me a sample so I could try to understand the whole NST love for it. I didn’t get it then, but I did hold onto the sample, and I’m glad I did. It’s really blossomed today in the heat. I get a good dose of honey from it (though that’s not one of the listed notes), and it feels nice against my skin :)

I’m in Teo Cabanel Oha today. I think it’s soooo pretty.

Feeling super down today. My sister is having to have her precious dog Meatball put down. He’s 15 and they’ve had him since he was 1 year old. He is, quite literally, the best boy. I lived with my sister for a while after a divorce and my son went there every day after school when he got off the bus, not to mention all the nights he spent with them. We are all just so attached and heartbroken. He’s a big ol’ 80 pound lapdog. It’s definitely time, there’s no doubt, but boy it sure does hurt us all.

The roofers started early today: they’ve been at it since 7:45. On the plus side, it means that their long day means that they will only need one day to finish their work.

    Still, that’s a LOTTA pounding. ?
