It's Almost Friday (or it's another Wednesday, now that every day is Wednesday). Also, AE Housman's (Loveliest of trees, the cherry now) birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: smelling great and taking points in Robert Piguet Fracas.
Reminder: on 3/27, wear a perfume by Robert Piguet, Rochas, Roger & Gallet or Reminiscence, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter R.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Cousins š
Twins!! and I wore this yesterday as well….
Ciao Amici-
Things are busy here.
Hope you are all doing well.
This Sunday is my birthday, a big one, and since there is nothing to do and no where to go, if anyone wants to join me in wearing Shalimar. We can have a Shalimar Sunday.
I’ll dig around to see if I still have a sample, but either way, I hope it’s a great day anyway, LTSG!!
Grazie!
Thank you!
Good to see you! Shalimar Sunday is a great idea and Happy Early Birthday! ?
Thanks Deva!
This is suppose to be a memorable birthday, and indeed, under these circumstances, I will never forget it.
Shalimar is the queen, thanks for joining me
My birthday was yesterday, not a milestone one, but I certainly won’t forget it! At least the weather was great for March! I’m not a Shalimar person so I’ll join you as a house twin in either Pamplelune or Ginger Piccante! āļø????
Happy belated Birthday!
Thank you lillyjo! ?
Shalimar Sunday is a grand idea indeed! Will have to find my old bath oil, hiding in a drawer somewhere…. š
Shalimar Sunday is a great idea – I will be there.
Great idea about Shalimar Sunday! I’ll be there?
Great idea, i dont have the regular Shalimar but I think i have a sample of one of the flankers, i will wear it Sunday!
Good to see you and hope you and your family are well! Alas, I have no Shalimar, so maybe I’ll join in something Shalimar-esque. I hope you can celebrate, in spite! I also have a biggie coming up in 2 months ?
So glad to see you! I will join you in Shalimar Sunday!
Happy early Birthday! Iāll look around because I KNOW I have a small decant somewhere….
Good to see you…I shall join in w/ Shalimar Light on Sunday!
My favourite perfume of all time!!!
Auguri! I do not own Shalimar but will wear something Shalimar-adjacent. š
Happy early birthday, and joining you in Shalimar Sunday.
Great idea! Joining your Shalimar birthday celebration on Sunday!
Finally , something to look forward to, all my perfumistas in Shalimar or whatever version you choose. Thanks for joining me. It will make my day
Not a Shalimar fan, but for the occasion I will put on a little from the sample I keep to re-test once in a while in case I changed my mind.
I know that itās a little late, but you could still probably organize a 15-30 minutes video-toast or even tea party with your friends and/or relatives over computer or mobile phones. You can use Skype, Zoom, GoToMeeting or G Suit (all offer free trials), or a dozen of other options, whatever seems easier for you.
Anyway, Happy upcoming birthday!
I work Sunday, but will put on some Shalimar when I get home in honor of your birthday.?
Happiest of Birthdays to you–will be delighted to splash some Shalimar in your honor!
Iāll waft in 8 sprays of one of my Shalimars … will decide which one on Sunday.
Nice to see your post. I’ll join you in Shalimar on Sunday!
Good to see you here and many happy returns in advance.
Shalimar Sunday
Mitsouko Monday
Tonka Imperiale Tuesday
Vetiver Wednesday
Encens Mythique Thursday
French Kiss Friday
Samsara Saturday
Couldn’t pull it off myself, but whatever!
love this! I’m a Guerlain gal (sometimes) š
I could do this (I have a few of those)
Oh, Happy Birthday! I wish I had some Shalimar to join you because I should see if I like it now. My birthday is Saturday but not a big year. And I am also at a loss of what to do. Iām glad Undina posted because Iām going to see if I can get something together like that.
If I remember I will wear my vintage EdT for your birthday. Great idea. Hope you will have a great day
I’m in! Will finish organizing my sample stash, must find that lovely decant of vintage Shalimar EdC. š
Happy birthday for Sunday! I won’t join you in Shalimar, but will certainly spray lots of something else from Guerlain š
Do let me know what you pick
Iād love to join you, and happy early birthday!
Iāll be joining you in Shalimar on Sunday! ?
Every Sunday should be Shalimar Sunday:). I am in
Happy Birthday, a little early. I would be happy to join in the Shalimar party in my vintage EdC!
I don’t own any Shalimar but will join you on Sunday in celebration by wearing another Guerlain. I hope you manage to make your own festive celebration with family!
No Shalimar in my stash, but I can do Shalimar adjacent.
I’m with you for Shalimar Sunday! A great occasion to wear vintage extrait.
Poivre Samarcande (Hermes) to channel the steadfast calm of an oak tree. Work is crazy. Thank God it’s Thurs. (If Tuesday is Monday’s ugly little sister, is Thursday Friday’s good looking bro?) Stay well, all.
HA! I’ll take it!
Thursday as friday’s good looking bro, sounds good to me. ?When i work fridays, my commute is less busy, my calender shows less meetings and I can easily find an empty desk etc.
Most of my family and friends work 24-36 hours and for some of them friday is their day off, so their weekend starts thursday afternoon. ?
I love Thursday – Friday at work is also good for me and on Thursday it’s all still ahead of me. I might actually accomplish great things this weekend…and either way it will be WEEKEND.
Good morning from the left coast.
Yesterday I went out got the first time in 5 days to pick up a prescription, locked my self out of the house, learned that locksmiths are essential, and lost power in the neighborhood.
Having some very strong coffee. Post shower going for JM vetiver and golden vanilla.
I have been trying to improve my strong coffee making skills by learning to make Turkish coffee. I can never get the creme right.
Cheers to strong coffee
Ack, so sorry!!
Oh, boy. You sure got out yesterday. Glad you were able to get back in!
Wow. Thatād make me think twice about going out again. Strong coffee is a good thing.
That was an eventful day… Letās hope that Universe considers that enough action for you for a while š
If there were ever a time for strong coffee and vetiver!
Yikes, what a day! Hope today is better! Enjoy your cuppa.āļø
Oh no, what a day….
Sorry about the lock-out, today will be better for you, I hope.
I went out to the pharmacy the other day too. It was odd to be out and about after many days at home. I’m glad you found a locksmith! I love mine, I’m forever losing my keys or locking myself out of the house.
Oh dear, that’s a difficult day!
Ummm. Apsara? Supposed to be “lock-down” not lock out (said in my most up-talking voice).
Oh dear, I’m so sorry. At least you had good coffee and you smell great today!
That is a morning that calls for strong coffee if I’ve ever heard of one!!!! Poor thing!
YUCK, what a day that was! Hopefully you won’t have anything else like that for a long time.
Greetings! In the beautiful and underrated Madam Rochas.
Esquisite! It is underrated, for sure! Another scent that’s similar, with more spicy floral from carnation is Sheherazade by Jean Despriz. It’s not as smooth as Madam Rochas but it’s a beauty.
That sounds lovely!
You smell elegant.
Thank you!
You smell lovely! Coincidentally I wore Madam Rochas yesterday for the first time in ages.
A lovely woody chypre that I should wear more!
I think that will be my SOTD tomorrow. I’ve only tested it briefly, so I’ll give it a full wearing.
I think you will enjoy it!
SOTD is Safari, Ralph Lauren
Almost CP worthy but its definitely not smallish haha.
This is not a shy fragrance. Two sprays is enough, even when you work at home. I think my bottle is from the 90s.
Its summer in a bottle.
You smell amaaaazing!
Yummy – I adore Safari, it fits my aesthetic for sure! You small grand!
The one good thing about working from home is that if you wake up early, you might as well start your day.
I logged on an hour earlier than normal. No makeup; just moisturizer and perfume! Sprayed myself silly with vintage Diorissimo!
You smell wonderful! The difficulty (for me) with working from home and being able to start my day right when I get up is that I immediately get sucked into work (hard to keep the boundaries right now) – today I made a little more effort to get some yoga in and make some coffee and check in here before hitting the work email and I feel less grouchy!
It’s hard to keep them separate sometimes. This morning I was able to get access to some shared spreadsheets without the wait that I usually have. Time constraints and all that fun.
Good plan with the yoga!
I havenāt worn makeup in days either, I think my skin is loving it.
same here! my makeup is on lockdown š
Perfume is essential! I’ve been wearing lipstick – I don’t want to look too much of a fright in Zoom meetings š
Commando until I shower then will probably reach for SSS Equestrian again. Itās āspringā and āhappyā all rolled into one.
Iām in a bit of a pickle because Iām not going to be able to live out of my van for a while. The nationwide gym I use for showers is closed, and I canāt find anything here that I can rent at a reasonable price. Hotel rooms are crazy costly, and I really would prefer to just stay in my van to keep my #socialdistancing skills strong because god knows Iām not going to get distance at work. Not to mention, I traveled East with the intention of selling my house and now, who knows whatās going to happen in real estate. Also received a letter from work stating I was traveling for āessentialā purposes because apparently police are questioning people who are out and about. ..
Small problems, considering.
Also, got an update about post viral anosmia. Basically states 30-40% of otherwise asymptomatic covid-19 patients present with anosmia as the presenting (and only) symptom.
Hereās the link for anyone interested:
https://youtu.be/A4eu-h_owaI
Deva, thanks for the information! I hope you’re as safe as can be given the circumstances. I’d read about the anosmia as well on MedScape. Trying to keep up to date without scaring the daylights out of myself but it’s important as we really don’t know much.
I was sick with a cold for a month – at home, the hubby and I are treating ourselves as though we both are positive for C-19 and monitoring ourselves daily for a fever, cleaning down all hard surfaces with a virus-killing approved disinfectant (and using it properly, it’s important to read the directions). It may seem like overkill, but we can’t chance it, he had heart surgery recently and I’m immune compromised.
Hoping you are feeling more like yourself now. I think being very careful these days is not a bad thing, especially considering the underlying health factors you and hubs are dealing with. Filtering news is essential and making sure the source is reliable is key. ā?
Properly-vetted sources are very important! I work in a library, so have access to medical databases (for free), and I’m a frequent visitor to WHO, CDC websites. Librarians are famous for being fact-checkers, a very useful habit to get into! š
Can you shower at a truck stop? Iām surprised the hospital doesnāt have showers.
Yes, most truck stops have super nice spa like showers which are generally very clean, but theyāre not abundant, and none at all in this area. Much more common out west.
I am planning on asking the hospital on Monday if itās possible to use a shower there. Would assume they have one or two…?
Yeah, I would guess they do. We have a shower in one of the bathrooms in my locker room on my unit. Rarely gets used, but it is there.
Iāve been watching those medcram videos daily after you posted on your insta. I prefer them over the news because his presentation doesnāt make me feel panicked. I forwarded the link to my dad too ( a retired science and math teacher).
Oh, Iām glad youāre finding them useful! I love his lecture style: straight talking, down to earth, fact driven information. Heās an interesting (and brilliant!) MD, which is actually his second career. So kind of him to create these lecture videos on top of a very busy practice and family life. ??
Great idea ?
I really admire your fortitude and gumption as a nomad, Deva!
Well, thanks, but Iām pretty dang average…?
Oh, boy. The trials of van life! Dry shampoo and wipes? Not the same, I know and I’m sure you’ve got that down already.
Ha! You know it! Wishing you and your hubs a steady supply of N95ās!
Same to you when you get to your work destination!
That was fascinating. I especially found the fever bit interesting.
Yes, Iāve thought fever to be therapeutic (in some cases) for a long time! Iām glad weāre seeing research about it. It just makes sense.
Youād think at some level we donāt want to inhibit the bodyās natural processes for healing… I wish we had a sauna right now…
my mum and grandmum always suggested hot baths and showers when a virus was brewing, it’s often worked for me, turning what felt like a big cold into a small one or nothing at all.
Thanks for that link Deva!
I knew that fever could be beneficial to recovery, but not in such detail.
Hope you are keeping well.
Youāre welcome and right back at ya! ā?
Deva, thank you so much for the link! I really did appreciate it!
Hi all, and happy almost FriYAY! My SOTD is Reminiscence, both Ambre and Patchouli a spritz of each. I’m not in the office so I’m def. wearing a NSFW scent!
Robin, I adore today’s picture. The small blossoms remind me of the beading design (hand-stitched blush-colored crystals that looked like cherry blossoms) on my wedding dress.. This reminds me of happier times.
sounds like a beautiful dress!
It was very pretty, and very comfortable. I joked to my MIL, I bought it because it made me look like I had a great bust (without exposing too much)! I purchased the first dress I tried on, in and out in under 1/2 hour, which astounded the assistant at David’s Bridal.
š
What a great memory. I remember being determined to have a tea-length wedding dress that was fairly simple, but still ‘bridal’ with pretty lace and a deep V in the back — and how much the store associates wanted me to try on all the ruffled and rosetta-ed BIG dresses that were so not me. I won out in the end!
I have great memories of being maid of honor for one of my best friends. Saks was doing a trunk show of wedding dresses, so we planted her in a dressing room and I brought dresses. She ended up with one of the first ones she tried on. But…I made her stay in there as I brought every ruffled and rosetted dress I could find. Just for laughs Huge fun.
Love it, LizzieB – when else can we do that?
Same with me on my dress. No need for fittings and I decided in roughly 30 minutes time too.
Funny to be talking about wedding dresses as my neighbor shared yesterday that her son and DIL just had their 10th anniversary and due to COVID-19 they decided to have her put on her wedding dress and walk down the block together and with their kids as a way to remember and honor the day. I thought that was sweet.
Oh! How fabulous!
How nice…
So great and creative! I hope a video of that floats around somewhere.
I heard a similar story of some kids asking their mom to put on her dress, so she was wearing it around the house all day.
Hi SmokeyToes! I love that little bird and the blossoms in that photo too. I’m turning it into the wallpaper for my laptop.
Have to share that I also bought the first wedding dress I tried on. I am a little over 5 feet tall, so my mother was set for an extended search. She even offered to make a dress if we couldn’t find one, something she could well do as she knows how to cut an original pattern from paper and really can sew anything.
But we went shopping anyway. At the first store the owner looked at me and said, “I have the perfect dress for you.” It was a sample dress that she had been saving even though it was no longer being made. She saved it because she loved the AlenƧon lace. I put it on, it fit perfectly, and suited me well. The shop owner was so pleased that she said she would let us buy it — and at a bargain price. It was a happy moment for all three of us. š
What a beautiful story!
I’m touched by all the stories in this thread, actually, even though I’m a confirmed and happy spinster.
thank you, nozknoz, and I’m hopefully not over-sharing, but must add that while the dress still fits, the groom no longer does š singlehood has it’s charms!
It certainly does! ?
So glad it had such a nice association for you!
Well, it finally came. Our county judge just issued a stay at home order to take effect Friday just before midnight. In Texas so far, counties are depending on the county judges to issue these orders, since so far our Governor has not seen fit to do so. I just had to order a large (for me) order of cat stuff from our local Walmart, since I have four cats.
Anyway my scent today is Vert Pivoine, perfect for spring weather.
Pennsylvania also has a weirdly localized form of government, but Texas beats us!
Try to enjoy your stay-at-home time with the furry friends. š Good for you for thinking of their food. I woke up at 3 am in a panic last week because I forgot to check the supply of seed for my daughter’s parakeet. Luckily here pet supply stores are considered “essential” businesses and can remain open while we are staying “safer at home.”
Yes, here too, and both Petsmart and Petco now have curbside pickup for online orders.
oh, that’s fantastic! makes me want a dog and a cat more than ever. š
Solstice Scents Violet Mallow…notes are Marshmallow Cream, Violet Flowers, Vanilla Bean, White Musk
I am also loving today’s pic, Robin…something about plump, round birds makes me happy. š
Your perfume sounds delicious!
yum!
Does that SOTD come in a cake form?
That bird is so round and plump it looks like it would be hard to fly!
This sounds lovely!
I’m wearing an armload of Cabochard. I have a giant vintage splash bottle and so it’s probably the only EdT I wear sufficient quantities of. I keep dying of happiness from the smell around me.
I hope you are all keeping well, beloved NST friends.
You smell wonderful!
Lovely.
I must dig out mine. I bought a used vintage bottle. Had to decant it, because the sprayer was broken. But it was super cheap
You smell marvelous!
Samsara EdP from a freebie or other meet. Rarely wear this, but Iām trying to experiment from my samples and decants. Getting that peachy thing right now, which I like.
Bright and sunny today, so I may go for a long walk. I live in a relatively quiet area and with no traffic, itās easy to maintain distance by zig zagging, even into the street, as necessary.
No real update on Agnes other than she gives me this ālookā to move over when my husband and I are on the couch. She wants me to move to the middle so she can lay on the couch too, but sheās unwilling to be between us. Hoping sheāll do that some day. Our big boy Blacky (RIP) loved to lay between us. Heād be next to my husband, but if I looked at him, heād move to me. A few minutes later, my husband would say something to him, and heād move to him. He was an equal opportunity snuggler.
What sweet memories of your cat!
We went for an after dinner walk yesterday and noticed that zig zagging too.
I bet she will.
kitty snuggles are the best thing. Thank you for the Agnes updates. Please keep us posted š
samsara is a good perfume to feel blissful in. You smell great
Samsara EdP plus Agnes kitty snuggles sound like a winning combo to me!
Looks like spring wants to stick around. Getting consistent warmer temperatures. Wearing Courtesan today.
You smell delicious.
Kalimantan today. Yesterday afternoon the sun came out. What a mood booster! Hoping for sun this afternoon, too. ?
Yep, sun makes a huge difference. Iām hoping for sun too but the radar does not look good.
I am wearing Prada Infusion d’Iris, one of my comfort scents and drinking a cup of black dragon tea.
You smell good!
Thanks š
Twins! EdP or EdT? š
EdP š
Finally felt calm enough today to wear some actual perfume, Ummagumma. Baking bread and apple pie.
I am so glad you are feeling calmer cazaubon! The smell of good things in the oven must help too.
Yum!? Yes, glad you are feeling calmer, thereās no place like home.
May I have a piece ??
Iām glad you feel better. Hang on in there!
Great choices, all around!?
My sister is an excellent baker and keeps posting pictures on Facebook of all the baked goods coming out of her very clean oven…so far a pumpkin pie and some bread pudding….wish I had her skills (and her pantry items!)
Glad it’s a better day!
I also skip perfume if I’m feeling unsettled. Glad you’re feeling better and smelling great! and two thumbs up for baking, those smells are wonderful too.
Your home smells wonderful!
Yay! Therapy baking is the best. I did raspberry rhubarb cheese danishes on Monday, and just baked off the last of some chocolate chip cookie dough today – there’s just two of us at home so I try not to bake more than 16 or so cookies at once, lest we regret our life choices ?
Glad to hear that perfume felt right for you today.
In reminiscence Musc today. A nice, soft, easy to wear musk. Some powder and almonds, reminds me a bit of Pure eVe, but a little more substantial. I think these could be worn during the sibling week cp coming up next month.
I called my aunt last night, the only living sibling of my mother. Sheās on lockdown in the independent living facility, but is taking it like a champ. She remembers as a child, the older folk talking about the Spanish flu in the early 1900ās, and is pretty matter of fact about this whole mess. She may be handling it better than I am!
Time for a walkie with the doggo. Be well, everybody!
Dang! I forgot that was what I was going to wear!?āāļø
I got a decant after watching a YouTube video of Tiff Benson raving about it.
Enjoy your walk!
Itās really pretty. I had no idea it launched in 1970!
Me neither! Now I do.?
It’s amazing there are still people with direct second hand memory!
My mother was one and two years old during that pandemic. She never talked about it, but I remember she was obsessive about wearing a bandana to cover her nose and mouth whenever she or one of us kids had a cold. Also re insisting that we cover our coughs with Kleenex.
I could never stand seeing people in public places who obliviously coughed in the air. Didn’t their mothers teach them anything?! It was always lol on me if I said anything; I have the last “laugh” now, tragically.
I know just how you feel! My mom was a nurse, so we girls (3 sisters) were trained to wash hands, cover our coughs, all of that stuff.
There are lots of folks that I just wonder….were they raised in a barn?!?
One of Mr. Jalapeno’s grandmothers had direct memories of the Spanish Flu pandemic. She was kind enough to tell me some stories before she passed away.
I’m finding some older people (over 80) also being the same way. Especially the ones not born in the U.S. and it was routine for people born in the early 1900s to die young from TB or whatever infections were going around. I kind of wonder how this is impacting tbe opinions of anti vaxxers. It’s an easy stance to take when we live in the relative luxury of no pan or epidemics for the most part (largely because of vaccines).
Thatās an interesting question. Maybe the current situation will compel them to rethink their stances.
In The Death of Expertise, Tom Nichols wrote, several years ago, that it would, unfortunately, take something like a pandemic to cure many Americans from over-reliance on “Dr Google” and their own arrogance.
I’m not sure how this is going to play out exactly, but it gives one goosebumps to reread his words.
I stay away from Dr. Google. Used to do type in my symptoms and always ended up with things like the bubonic plague or some such thing like that. So now I stay away from doing that and just go to my doctor for things like that.
That’s a GREAT reason, right there!
enjoy your walk with the dog
Thanks! It was a nice morning walk.
Wearing Mandy Aftel’s Bergamoss, very calming. Wishing I had more Cuir de Gardenia, or another dab of Parfum Privee. Stumped on what to do tomorrow. Off to the sample drawer.
What a great choice!
Thanks!
Another dreary day, Iām in Kyoto.
I spent allll day yesterday writing my research paper. Feels good to be done, my brain hurts, lol. And to make matters worse, apa released their 7th addition since my classes last fall, so many things I learned in my previous classes have changed. Ugh.
Also, I discovered this emoji yesterday.? Is it just me, or is this new?
Pretty sure itās new. The best response is ?!
Yep! I go back to work tomorrow after 10 days off and Iām really not looking forward to it. My coworker sent me a selfie the other day all donned up in her ppe.
Well, Iām glad she actually HAS PPE??
Right! Me too!
I’ve seen that little guy around the social media channels recently. Not sure I have that one. Off to look!
And ugh on new APA edition. That seems totally unfair ?
Actually, I just checked my emoji status and I think that’s actually supposed to be a centipede since it’s grouped with other insects, but it works!
When you type āvirusā that emoji pops up too. Although, Iām thoroughly sick of ? about now…?
Only my iPad has the emoji and not my phone.?
Yeah, it really stinks about APA, I just bought the 6th addition last August and now have to buy and become proficient in the 7th. ?
That is so ridiculous! They probably changed one or two things just to be a$$hats! Why fix what aināt broke? I loved the actual research and writing of research papers but HATED the entire āwork citedā b.s….sorry you have spend money on a silly book when it could be going towards full bottles of juice ?
In Diptyque’s Fleur de Peau.
Feeling much better than yesterday. Actually, I am feeling worse, but in a good way. I definitely have a cold., but one I recognize, and not too serious. I am so happy to have a cold!!!!
Now, trying to marshal my sons to think about how they can live more fully while sheltering in place. We have a roof over our heads, it is sunny and gorgeous outside, and for now we are well. (Well, well enough!)
You smell great.
I feel terrible saying this, but I am glad that you have a cold. ?
Ditto!
Yay for a cold! Hope it goes away fast
I certainly never once appreciated a stuffy nose before, but I now join you in this!
yay for a cold! take care š
Yay you have (just) a cold!!!
Iām so glad itās just a cold!
Thank goodness.
Can’t get enough of spring pics and colors and fragrance!
Grateful we’re not just starting Jan or Feb but moving into April.
SOTD: Jour d’HermĆØs Absolu (aka keeping-the-peace-scent)
You smell great! I think I’ll join you…
Oh, please do!
Robin, now I’m singing “Every day is like Wednesdayyy” in the Morrissey voice.
The weather has been really beautiful. š I’m wearing La Chasse aux Papillons.
One of the greatest songs ever. You smell lovely!
oooooh, La Chasse! I love your choice for today. š
We need a new “Everyday is Wednesday” coronavirus song.
La Chasse is such a pretty Spring one!
I binge-watched Dr. Jeff: Rocky Mountain Vet yesterday and felt much better at the end of the day. I think I must cut off the news, it just makes me angry. The kitties and the dog are loving stay at home! A lap is available all the time and the dog gets more frequent walks. SOTD is Amyris Femme, I am craving pretty florals recently.
I started binge watching that too. I hope they come out with a new season.
Couldn’t think of what to wear, but decided Jour d’Hermes Absolu always works for me and it’s cheering.
Good call.
Going to get some sunshine on my balcony. It gets traffic noise, dust, and very unfavorable light for plants, so I always disdained it Before Covid-19 (henceforth BC). Now it’s my lifesaver — literally! There’s a lesson in that somewhere, I know.
Then, renewing the search for food delivery.
Looking forward to busting out the vintage Rochas Femme this week!
Or perhaps BCV to avoid confusion? What say you?
Doesnāt roll off the tongue like Covidiot ?.
Stealing that, hajusuuri!
I saw the word somewhere so not mine originally ?
Enjoy your balcony, I wore vintage Rochas Femme Parfum de Toilette Monday, and enjoyed it so much.
Having serious balcony envy…
SOTD is Baghari, second day in a row. Such great weather out there today, I have to go for a walk soon. Had so much fun with my Book Club last night–seven ladies with lots of wine on Zoom talking up a storm for two hours. Almost as much fun as in person, but much safer. We have already set the date for our next meeting, with or without Covid-19.
Hope all of you are staying safe and keeping your families together. Be well, be smart, and as my hairdresser recently posted–whatever you do, don’t cut your own bangs!!
I cut my own bangs all the time, otherwise, I will need to go in for a trim every 3-4 weeks!
Hah! My bangs are going to need a trim soon, and I’m like hajusuuri – the hairs, they grow quickly. I am brave enough to take my tiny cuticle scissors and clip one or two hairs at a time as they start harassing my eyeballs, but otherwise I’ve been going in every four weeks for professional attention – may have to become much braver, very soon!
I found the best way is to wet the bangs then just use regular scissors to cut across, then stop thinking about it A little brave but I can explain the unevenness by saying itās the shaggy look if anyone dared to comment.
I cut across wet, then snip upwards after dry in little bits, like my hairdresser does.
Real Simple explains: “Now that youāve got the length where you want it, grasp the fringe section again with your two fingers and, holding the scissors vertically, cut tiny V-shapes into the ends all the way across. (Donāt go overboard, just nip those tips the tiniest bit!) āThis gives bangs a little bit of texture,ā explains Carrion,ā and it softens the line if bangs arenāt trimmed perfectly straight.ā
https://www.realsimple.com/beauty-fashion/hair/hair-care/how-to-cut-bangs
I had classic bangs for many years and used to Scotch tape Saran wrap to my forehead in order to shield my eyes and trim as often as liked.
It really worked, and you can find much better types of medical tape now in drugstores.
Cute pic, Robin!
SOTD = Chanel Les Exclusifs Coromandel EDT
Yes, sadly discontinued but no sense hoarding, COVID or not. It also helps that I have a BUB ?.
https://www.instagram.com/p/B-NJmbvBCRk/?igshid=1s3sektsl3pj1
In other news, I decided to do an online delivery order for lunch from Panera Bread. Overall a good experience but I will of course provide feedback. When they say contactless, I should not have to open the door while the person was there. I was asked to specify where it should be dropped off … not sure if I can be more precise than āthe Welcome mat on top of the stepsā ?. I did not answer the doorbell despite 2 buzzes a minute apart ā I was on a video conference call…and besides, ācontactlessā. The only other fail was my fault – I accidentally ordered 2 croissants ??…first world problems.
Even if it is an EdT, Coromandel is a heavy hitter! I can only imagine what the other concentrations are like.
The Extrait is magical ?
I bet!
The EDP is kind of sheer and not as long lasting as the EDT but still smells like Coromandel.
Really? I have never tried the edt but have a decant of the edp and it lasts all day on me and my sweater still has the drydown a week later. The edt must really be something!
Never had the joy of trying the extrait but hear it’s not fabulous. I will get a chance to smell it though.
Nice looking wood on your deck. I’m hoping to maybe powerwash and stain mine this summer.
Thank you. I will only do something if the homeowner association makes me.
you smell wonderful
Thank you. We missed you and glad youāre back posting!
Coromandel really is an amazing perfume. I wore a sweater the other day that had the drydown from last week, my daughter brushed up near me and was like āmmmm, you smell good!ā
Itās one of my favorites!
Hi all,
SOTD is Tauerās Incense Extreme. For some reason it doesnāt feel extreme enough, but Iām in the office today so I decided more that the 3 sprays i did would cause problems.
I love that picture, Robin! Spring wonāt be like that for another month here.
Be well!
We’ve got spring, but would really like a few days of sun in a row…
You do smell great even if not extreme!
Well, I have to say that working from home has advantages, even if it has put a crimp in my NST posting habits. So far this week I’ve worn Le Temps d’Une Fete, Tam Dao, Ummagumma (all at rather loud levels), and today it’s Bel Ami. Why oh why do I not wear this more often – SO gorgeous.
Oh, Bel Ami, wonderful.
I didnāt know it at the time but I picked some faffodils in your honor today SheriG!
Gosh how I love Le Temps
dāUne Fete. (She must re release this before she retires.)
Adorable photo. Participating in an unlisted R, Rituals Victoire d’Ambre, a favorite amber and as it was fading, I’ve just spritzed some Fidji, very radiant.
Ah, I might have something Rituals around here….
So glad if you have some, it’s a house that doesn’t get much mention, but the scents are good and natural smelling, I love the wooden tops and the little 15ml bottles available.
It’s a gorgeous sunny day here. The sunshine makes the forsythia even more vivid in color, almost taxi-cab yellow in hue. I recently saw a couple of robins flitting about my mailbox, and I heard a mourning dove softly “Coo” as I took out some recyclables. ??????? I’m kind of surprised the cats aren’t taking advantage of the sun beams in the bay window. Slackers.
SOTD = back in Passage d’Enfer. ???
ha! cats have Ninja level sun beam skills, but they’re also great slackers.
Glad you’re still enjoying the perfumed highway. I’m thinking I’d like to make a list of scents that make me feel “rock n roll”. š
Ha!!! āNinja level sun beam
skills ā???? thatās a keeper
The cats did end up taking a little bit of a sun bath today after all.
Gorgeous out. We took a nice long walk.
Robin, what a lovely picture that is!
I am not wearing any perfume, but the air smells like the Diptyque Amande Exquise candle we burned last night š Since we can’t go out, we had a little date night in. We got all dressed up (this was important, since I’ve been living in leggings and sports bras for the past three weeks) and made a very elaborate, fancy meal: oeufs en cocotte with foie gras and creme fraiche, a homemade baguette, cheese roulettes, and cocktails with homemade fennel vodka to start; followed by avgolemono and baked shrimp with creamed couscous (using a recipe someone posted here many months ago; thanks!) accompanied with one of our favorite wines from Point Reyes; followed by an entremet of mango sorbet and a dessert of chocolate mousse (both homemade). So of course we had to fancy up the table with a pretty candle.
It was a lovely date š aaaaaand today I’m back to leggings and sports bras. That’s ok. Maybe we will have another fancy night in a week or so. Maybe I will put on some Black Perfecto later, for that lovely cherry/almond note.
I love that! Our table is, unfortunately, being used as a desk right now… But we are having a nice dinner tonight.
Heh. The left half of our table is a desk. But the right half is available for a nice table setting! š Have a wonderful nice dinner tonight!
yum
I am married, but can we have a pretend date and you can make all those dishes
Hehehe. I have plenty of unromantic dates with friends! Passing you virtual versions of all those dishes š
Absolutely beautiful Koyel!!
Thank you, AngelaB š
Wow! Thatās an impressive homemade meal!
Thanks, it was fun to create and even more fun to consume! Unfortunately, since we didn’t really start cooking until after a full workday, we didn’t finish up until ~1am o.o oops. We are too old for that!
Gracious! I had a salad with walnuts, apples, cheese, and strips of leftover steak. I am officially jealous of your dinner. Not sure I’d change out of my sports bra, though, even for better food š
It was a wonderful dinner! But I think it was important for our mental health to dress nicely once š
Tested my small decant of Lebreton Grimoire today. Smoke, greens and leaves. Not too bad. Had a long walk today with the boyfriend. Asparagus risotto for dinner.
I sewed some nose and mouth guards yesterday and sent some to my mom to wear, when she goes out shopping.
Smoke, greens and leaves sounds nice! And so does asparagus risotto.
Getting ready for a work day, the plus side of working in the lounge is not needing to go out in the rain this morning. I’ve decided that this is an appropriate morning for Ouarzazate.
Yep, you do smell great!
Diptyque Essences InsensƩes Tiare
Good afternoon Y’all!
Going “vintage” again in Bill Blass Nude. How can it be “vintage” when 1990 was just a couple of years ago??? LOL
I love me the vintage goodies of the ’80s and ’90s, this I know! š
Bill Blass..that is a blast from the past
You smell great. I think Bill Blass Nude has the most artfully used and credible pear note in all of perfumery,
I had to take my daughter to the dentist this morning because she was having some wisdom teeth issues. Luckily, they let us in for an appointment. They said all 4 will have to come out, but won’t schedule until after the lockdown. I wore Narciso edp white cube to the appointment. Currently wearing Carcharel Eden, thanks to Amazing Aurora ? I find it to be very relaxing.
ooooh, good for you for doing the dentist visit now. Those wisdom teeth will wait patiently.
Oh, hope everything will go well for your daughter when it happens, Lillyjo. So glad you are enjoying Eden, I agree with its being relaxing, and unlike any other scent.
Was your dentist only taking emergency visits? Mine was, only a couple patients at a time so no more than 10 people in the office at once.
Hope all goes well for your daughter when she gets her wisdom teeth out. I remember how loopy that anesthesia made both my older kids. I know Iāve told this story before but when I was driving my daughter home she turned to me and asked ā did I do good mom? was I a rockstar?ā?
Youāve told that story before, but it still makes me smile. ?
Thanks Nancyleandros, me too.āŗļø
How adorable! ?
She doesnāt remember any of it of course.??
That’s adorable š
Yeah, only emergency visits. They said if she gets swollen or is in alot of pain they would see her sooner.
SotD = Infusion d’Iris EdT
I love this scent so much. It gently tickles my heart, mind, and nose.
Thank you, everyone, for being here today, you’ve made my morning delightful. I’m giving myself some enforced rest time. Yesterday I was in a git-er-done mood and made a too long to do list, then did it all.
Feeling a little worn out and rough around the edges. So this morning I did the few tasks neccessary for today, then read the comments here form top to bottom, a rare indulgence for me lately.
So to sum up — I have to say — you! all! smell! fabulous! š
Good for you! We could all do with some enforced rest time. I’ve decided to give myself some of that too š haven’t smelled this, despite everyone’s positive comments on it, but I bet you smell great.
Wearing Dame Gardenia.
Super busy today with work conference calls. No time to breath.
Beautiful, sunny day outside.
Back to read the comments later tonight.
It is beautiful out, I went and waited on a long line for groceries, but at least it was outside.
I hope you are breathing easier by now, and that tommorow is less stressful. ????
I am! I hope it is better tomorrow! ??
After a long day’s work and a 100 hand washes later: I spent the day in Eau PremiĆØre.
Work was hard, but it was wonderful to see how cooperative everyone was.
There is nothing like real teamwork!
And some good hand cream.
I should look into gift orders of hand cream for all my friends. We may need an emergency poll on best hand creams, Robin!
Great idea!
L’Artisan Au Bord de l’Eau today.
I love your Les Brumes review, Lucas! And how cool is that, to find brand PR that is spot on?
Nahema, my monthly allocation from Fragrancenet arrived!
reminds me slightly of MDCI Rose de Siwa, a teeny bit of Elizabeth Taylor diamonds & rubies. I can’t see the average perfume buyer showing any interest in this.
Any Nahema lovers out there? I wish I could smell the extrait or the orginal version if it were preserved, or had an idea if the version available at fragrancenet is a decent representation of the perfume.
Nahema lover, reporting for duty!
I have a mid-vintage parfum; I do not prefer it to my vintage EdP. Some fragrances do not need to be richer.
? thank you nozknoz – were you able to smell or wear Nahema in the 80s or 90s?
I am appreciating Nahema and I want to spend more time with it, but I feel sad Iāll never understand the love and devotion that people have for it.
Coin-op, I have Nahema from the 90s, but I bought it in the early 2010s. I wish I could send you a vintage sample for comparison, but who knows when I, an old, will feel safe going to the post office again!
Give it a chance by testing it every now and then in different weather and moods. But no pressure. Not everyone loves it.
Yes I will keep testing! from what I can tell it doesnāt seem like Nahema is one of the perfumes that has been destroyed by reformulation. Thank you for your feedback!
Hello All I hope that you are well.
I started the day in Diptyque Essences incensee 2015 then switched to SSS Incense Pure because I havenāt seen it in a long while. I am so happy to be back with my perfume collection.
My garage smells better after multiple washes and I am smudging on the patio enjoying the late afternoon sun. Gosh does it smell heavenly and is relaxing and cleansing. I am thinking of everyone all over the country, and am watching too much news.
I remain positive and very hopeful that we will turn the corner soon. My deepest respect and gratitude to all our health care workers and first responders.
Glad to hear that cleansing has carried you forward. We owe so much to everyone in these fields and everyone still heading out the door every day to keep essential services going!
I love that Diptyque. It’s such a pretty jasmine.
I was in the mood for Obsession today, so that’s what I’m wearing. And lots of it since I’m at home by myself! It’s about 5 years old maybe , so not vintage, but I still really like it.
Mmmm….Obsession! If you ever wanna try the vintage for comparison let me know. Iāve got 100 mls that will last me a lifetime.
Thanks, that would be lovely! Something to look forward to after COVID-19 is behind us.
I had planned to wear Guerlain Vetiver Pour Elle, but accidentally picked up the decant Reglisse Noire, and have been instead saying “I smell licorice!” all day…
Mmm licorice all day is fine with me:)
I am very cranky today and not sure why..and commando. Cranky commando. I think I am getting stir crazy and want this chapter to pass already..like some kinda bad dream. I just want us to kick that bug in the azz hard and move on.
Not much patience I guess.
Iāve got my shi* kickers on! ? Iām ready to stomp some dang bugs HARD! Letās do it ?
Being from Nevada, I do appreciate chitkickers lol.
Omega, my patience comes and goes. Hang in there!
Finally thunked my bottle of discontinued Tunisian perfume today cuz I needed some Mediterranean summer vibes!
I would have agonized over using up those last few sprays, but thankfully I DO have a back-up bottle from my bestie – we bought the perfume together back in 2014, and he quickly decided it didn’t suit him but hung into it and regifted it to me when I visited LA last fall!
Regifts you love are genuinely the gift that keeps on giving ?
A successful regift is a double present to both parties!
Cloon Keen Atelier “Tulum”, for a bit of zingy freshness. Nothing much to report otherwise, a busy day at work in my little home office. Today was mostly sunny, after 10 days of cloud and rain. A cool-ish breeze though.
I was out to the supermarket yesterday – keeping visits to twice a week, and I admire those that cut down to once. Here is a selfish confession. I know the lockdown is very serious, and we are being meticulous about it. But I am sad that we have missed most of the mimosa flowers, and just about all of the orange blossom. Malaga city is full of orange trees and I was looking forward to smelling them after missing them last year when we went into exile in The Netherlands.
I also cancelled my week of holiday over Easter. We shall still be locked down and there will be no Easter processions, for the first time since 1933 apparently. I don’t really need a full week of doing nothing trapped inside my own apartment; 4 days will do just fine. Plus – who knows how long my job will keep going? Better to bank a few more billable days, they may need to last a while.
Best wishes to all who are struggling through this. :^)
Best wishes to you and TOMK. I’m glad you have been checking in here.
I feel sad too, for the things I was looking forward to.
I am oddly divided between from time to time regretting that I am missing the spring flowers, especially DC’s famous cherry blossoms, and, because I am lazy and usually never go to the Tidal Baisin anyway due to the crowds, pleasurably wallowing in a wistful envy of the few who have somehow made their way to see them.
Based on all the photos I’m seeing, this appears to be the most beautiful spring in living memory, so this is a particularly sharp painful pleasure.
It wouldn’t be the same, though, with the mimosas and orange blossoms, because you don’t have photos. That would just be frustrating. Fingers crossed for your job!
Missing things is not selfish, I don’t think, so long as you are doing your part. We’re all still human!
I’m very late to check in here with my SOTD which has been the final oily dregs of a sample of Robert Piguet Visa. Yumyumyum, spicy peach, it’s wonderful but heavy. I had a day of distractions and delays. Not the best time for some things to go on the blink including my kitchen ceiling lights and my ice-maker (it’s hitting 90 here now and I absolutely need my cold drinks). I’ve been advised to turn the ice maker off and defrost the whole freezer, and will try to do that by storing my unusually full freezer items in a cooler overnight. Ugh. It doesn’t help that cats keep drinking up or sliding around in the puddles on the kitchen floor. ANYWAY, it’s sunny out and I had a nice walk this evening, enjoying some neighbourhood flowers and kitties. And then I gave myself the luxury of ordering out from my favourite local high-end Vietnamese restaurant. It’s important to keep these good places in business. I’m so full now!
Oh drat on the freezer! Hope that works.
Iāve been a scent twin with Robin all day and only just discovered it! What is odd is that this is the first time in years that Fracas has not triggered sneezing fits and sinus aches for me. I have not enjoyed it this much in a long while ā perhaps not since I first bought a tiny bottle of the perfume…28?…years ago.
Hey twin! And I am surprised you still give it a chance if it causes such trouble, but glad it worked today.
Wish I had some Shalimar – I’ve only tried it once and I loved it! Happy birthday on Sunday!!!
I may scoot by the drug store (a high-end one where they carry Guerlain) and see if I can grab some along with some other precious products.
In the meantime, I’m working my way through a set of samples I got from LuckyScent… today is Falling Trees from Regime des Fleurs: I am in love, haunted by it… put some on my wrists this morning and it’s now almost 10 pm… I am still bewitched (but heavens, at $200 USD a bottle?)
Hello! *Virtual hugs* to the perfumistas here. We are living in strange times.
Mom and I went for a walk in the neighborhood to see what’s blooming. Some of the people in the development have flowering cherry trees — or maybe plum? I have a hard time telling them apart. Mom will ask me, “What kind of tree is that?” and I’ll tell her it’s some kind of ornamental stone fruit tree.
A number of folks had daffodils blooming, and some had hyacinths blooming. The one kind of daffodil I consistently recognize is ‘Ice Follies.’ Many people have it. There were other sorts, too — classic yellow trumpet daffodil, white with apricot cup, yellow with an orange trumpet — we drive through the development so often, but there are some things you really only see when you walk.
When we got home, I worked out in the yard. I planted perennials I’d gotten a few weeks ago.
Perfume-wise, I tried PdE Osmanthus Interdite early this morning. It’s pretty. In the evening, when I was done working outside, I tried Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus. Also pretty, although after a couple of hours of each one, I got what I think of as a “Play-Doh” note. I guess it’s a fruity-leathery smell?
Thank you to the kindly people who sent me osmanthus samples! š
I will put on a Rogers & Gallet sample tomorrow.
Take care, folks!
