Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Birthdays today: Penelope Lively, William Gibson, Nat King Cole, Alexander McQueen. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm on my second cup of Idulgashinna Estate OP Organic from Upton. When I get back from a couple quick errands, I'm going to pick a happy fragrance from what you all are wearing.
Update ~ I am so sorry I didn't think of it sooner, but this weekend doesn't seem like a good time to hold a swapmeet, since it might or might not be possible (or advisable) for people to have to go to the post office. I've tentatively rescheduled for April 18.
Reminder: 3/20 will be the International Day of Happiness. Wear the perfume that most reliably increases your happiness!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Belleek Classic Claddagh Tea Set ("The Belleek Claddagh Collection is inspired by the history of the Claddagh which goes back over 400 years when a Spanish goldsmith fell in love with a girl from the Claddagh village. He crafted the first Claddagh ring for her. Since then the Claddagh ring has become a token of love throughout the world.") is $95. (More reading: Claddagh ring at Wikipedia.)
I’m enjoying Jour d’Hermes today. I usually reach for Jour Absolu, but today it was the original. I love both.
You smell gorgeously spring-y.
I wore that yesterday evening. What SheriG says: Spring in a bottle. The grapefruit is so zesty, its almost foody.
How is the Absolu compared to the regular Jour?
Good morning Y’all….
Decided to go old-school today with Estee Lauder Knowing. I was definitely born in the wrong decade, perfume wise…I like the “vintage” stuff!
Is 1988 really VINTAGE??? Wow I feel old….LOL 🙂
Yeah, for me vintage is like 1920s -50s. I can’t make the 80s feel vintage. My oldest son was born in 1988 and he’s so young…
That’s how I feel when people say “vintage” for things from the year 2000. I was a sentient person by then with lots of feelings! (SO many feelings.) How can 2000 be vintage?!?!
Ha! Yep, if ‘88 is vintage then I’m old too!?
Ha! Me, too. But we don’t qualify, yet, for antique status ?
You smell great. Knowing is such a powehouse. I have a splash old bottle and it’s a commitment to wear it because it just won’t… quit 🙂
I have a fairly new bottle, so I think the ingredients are “softer” now. It started out pretty loud, but by lunchtime it was nice and quiet. It’s so good!
Happy birthday, Nat King Cole! I’m in Italian Leather, of which Mr. G heartily approves.
Cousin in Irish Leather. Maybe my Irish husband will approve – but I thin Italian might be a bit easier to love (the scent! 🙂
the not thin. ooops.
Celebrating my 40th birthday wearing my old favorite – Un Jardin Sur le Nil.
Happy 40th!
Nice choice – happy birthday!
Happy 40th! Hope you have an epicly awesome day!
Happy Birthday, Glannys! You smell great! ?????
Happy Birthday Glannys!
You’re wearing my favorite “garden.”

Happy Birthday! Jardin Sur le Nile is what got me started on this current, most long lasting journey down the rabbit hole.
Happy Birthday Glannys!
Happy birthday!!!
Best wishes for a happy birthday!!
Happy birthday!??
Happy Birthday, Glannys! I hope you can get some simple enjoyment in today.
Happy Birthday! Enjoy that Jardin…

Happy Scented Birthday Glannys! ????☘
Happy Birthday Glannys!
Happy birthday!
Top o’ the morning, all!
Raining again (still!) and I don’t think it’s ever going to stop. Ugh!
I’m in SL Un Bois Vanille because I wanted something easy and uncomplicated. We’ve been making a beeline East, because of rain and the fact that everything is closed.
I spent the night at a rest stop in OK in the RV section and don’t you know, two big rigs pulled up, one on each side, Diesel engines running all night! Jeez…the result is, I’m cranky!
If anyone is looking for a good book while “socially isolating” themselves, I recommend “The Blindness” by José Saramago. It has eerie parallels to today’s issues. Here’s a review for those interested:
http://www.thenewcanon.com/blindness.html
Good luck with all the rain! Why do they leave their diesel engines running all night?
Excellent question! I’m sure there must be a reason, but I don’t know what it is…
If the sleeper section of the cab has HVAC, then the engine needs to be on in order for it to work. ? Some rigs also have outlets for laptops or small TVs.
Yes, these did have sleepers attached, but temps were quite moderate last night. It’s seems a huge waste of fuel. You think they’d just crack open the windows…??♀️
More and more places are outlawing engine idling these days…
Travel safely!
Thanks!
How annoying ? Safe drive, to ya!
Thank you!
Ugh, how annoying with the noise! Hope you get a better night tonight.
Oh, I will! ?????☘️
Yes, good book! We taught it in our freshman Honors course once. He wrote a sequel to it too.
Oh, thanks! Did not know there was a sequel! ?
Oh good, heading closer to us ?. Be safe !
Going with Theorema today, definitely a comforting fragrance and I need some.
You smell gorgeous!
You also – in both your choices!
Thank you! ?
Theorema is fabulous. Still can’t believe that it was discontinued.
Vintage Jolie Madame, the never-wrongest of all my never-wrongs.
Love the never-wrong category. It’s a fairly narrow category for me.
Adding a request for favorite hand lotion/ hand cream recs. Higher end and scented recs as well as Neutrogena/Cerave type recs all welcome!
I’m considering the Mon Guerlain Body Lotion Kanuka mentioned yesterday. Has anyone else tried this one?
No, but I still recommend that you get it 😉
? ?
Ha – and I would expect no less. 😀
Deciem has two really great hand creams in their The Chemistry brand. I love both Hand Chemistry and Heel Chemistry (which in spite of its name works wonderfully on very dry chapped hands).
I second that – just picked up their HA3 Hand Hydrator and really like it. It’s not greasy and has a fresh lemony scent.
My other reco is Korres Olive Oil Hand Cream in both the Bergamot and the Olive Blossom scents.
this is a cheapo suggestion but I do like it: O’Keefe’s working hands overnight treatment. Got it mainly for my husband, but now we’re all using it because of the frequent hand washings. It’s unscented. Feels more utilitarian than pampering, but works for me!
For actual function, I find Eucerin for very dry skin hand cream actually works the best for me. Sometimes I add a bit of my scented hand creams that don’t work as well as the Eucerin, just to scent it.
But for scent, I’m enjoying Compagnie de Provence Grapefruit. Also Shikai Yuzu lotion is great, but maybe a little oily-feeling. But natural with quality ingredients. I transfer it into a small travel squeeze bottle to carry along.
If you want a tonka/lavender cream (like Mon Guerlain), LUSH Sleepy lotion smells pretty yummy.
And I certainly have the fragrances to add to unscented cream. I just don’t have a hard-working cream at the moment. Thanks. (I never used to be a Lush fan, but recently picked up some Happy Hippy and the banana bar that you rub on skin and really like them.)
I also wasn’t really into Lush, until I was, lol. But it’s mostly just for bottle-less hair products.
My staunch favorite for unscented is Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve. It even fixed up my husband’s cracked hands when he worked at a bar slicing up limes all night.
I just got the Eucerin Hand Repair yesterday. Seems nice. I used to keep a bottle of the L’Occitane Shea Butter lotion on my desk. Not the specific hand cream, just the regular lotion. Loved that.
I’m a big fan of Aveeno Eczema Therapy moisturizing cream. I use it at night in the winter and it’s saved my hands. Fragrance free.
Also, you can add some olive or coconut oil to whatever creams you have in the house. Good luck!
O Keefee’ s Working Hands is good, also Cerave hand cream. And i like helping hands by Lush.
Trader Joe’s Aloe unscented is very good!
Caudalie hand and nail cream – works great, feels great, smells great ?
Drugstore pick here: Eucerin Original Healing Creme, fragrance-free version. It does wonders for parched winter hands.
Wearing Guerlain Lui, from a sample. It’s lovely. It’s weird, outside of my house things seem al little quieter, but kind of normal, while I know it isn’t normal at all.
Still glad I’ve got a week off work so I can catch up on sleep, knitting and walking. All good for the soul.
I started the day with a rather bland Earl Grey and have just made some really nice 1st flush Darjeeling.
Good for the soul things are needed right now.☺️
Everyday feels like sunday right now. Children playing in the park, parents pushing their strollers around, kids playing soccer. And hardly any cars/commuters.
Luckily we can still get ice cream just around the corner.?
Its rough for lots of small businesses. Though the liquor shop owner told me business is doing fine right now, with all the bars and restaurants closed. ?
Ieder nadeel heb zijn voordeel!
If the people are hanging out outside, nothing is gained, sadly….
If you keep your distance its ok to be outside, problem is…most young folks (kids, students) are still playing and touching each other like they are untouchable ?
Bikini is great at social distancing…

Hysterical
It’s my favourite instagram account. He is so witty and he has such a wonderful and oddly assorted collection of animals!
Lancome Oranges Bigarades is my SOTD and I am drinking a cup (my second also) of Hazelnut Tea.
I just got home from my errands (long day as it turned out) and am drinking a cup of rose hips + hibiscus.
Hazelnut tea?? That sounds fabulous. I am trying watermelon lime tea, pretty sure this would taste better chilled with a little sweetener.
Musc Rav, from a sample. Trying to be cheery in a shamrock shirt..even though st paddys is pretty much cancelled..why not wear it anyway?
Good point. I bought a green clip-on fringe/bangs last summer to wear to a St. Patrick’s Day party that got cancelled. Will go put it on now.
Woke up to a very loud red cardinal singing away, such a happy sound.
Sipping my second cup of jasmine pearl tea and wearing a drop of jasmine oil on my wrist. I always “say” I’m not a floral person, but I do seem to turn to this one over and over. I NEED spring so maybe that’s the attraction today.
I’m similarly obsessed with my jasmine sambac oil and I’m also not a floral person
Hi friends, I’m trying to calm down with a nice dose of the gorgeous Mitzah. We’re in a Shelter in Place here in the Bay Area, which is one step below a full lockdown, and I’m so stressed out and worried about the disintegration of society that it’s hard to concentrate on anything. We went to the grocery store at 7 today to beat all the crazy apocalypse shopping, but it was as busy as it might normally be on a Saturday afternoon. (We tried going yesterday at 3pm, just after the SIP was announced, but we could see so many people through the windows that we drove right back home.) Anyway, we’ve got plenty of cat litter and cat food and people food and tissues and milk to last us a month. Stay safe and healthy, friends, especially those of you who are more susceptible.
Don’t stress! I mean, it is bad, but people lived through wars, earthquakes and floods, and bounced back afterwards. We’ll survive and then see what we can rebuild.
If you’re a worrier, try to limit news intake: nothing of what happens requires constant awareness.
Mitzah is beautiful. You smell great.
Thank you, you’re so right. I tried limiting my news intake, but all my social media sources appear to have become Coronavirus experts over the past week 🙂 I guess this means I need to stop consuming social media. I’m sure I’ll be fine–I’m young, healthy, and well enough off that I can deal with a dip in the economy. But my mother is older, retirement aged, which spells trouble both for illness survival and finances (I can help with the latter but not the former). But you’re right–people have weathered worse before, and in any case, there’s nothing I can do about it besides stay home and stay calm. Thanks for the reminder.
Hang in there! I am trying not to go on FB – this forum is my only social media outlet right now. I’m mostly not on FB because I end up feeling bad/inadequate about my online teaching plans but the virus stuff is also annoying/anxiety generating. Here is something I found odd: On Netflix yesterday, the most watched films were, per my screen, Pandemic and Outbreak. Why would anyone want to watch this now?
That IS really weird to me. I certainly don’t want to watch that kind of thing right now. Maybe they want to see success stories? (I assume those end in success, though probably with more intervening misery than we might care for.)
The same reason people watch horror movies, I guess. Sometimes it helps to have somewhere to channel that anxiety that’s still separate from yourself.
All I personally have the energy for right now is trashy reality TV, but I get it. lol
Thanks for this Undina!
I agree with limiting focus on news. If social media is obsessive, then I recommend turning away. We forget how recent social media is as an addition to our lives. If you are into classical, the Berlin Philharmonic has made their archive of live-streams available for free. Many operas doing same.
I’m reverting back to my younger years before cable and other electronics. Reading, knitting, music. Heck, I found a great paint-by-numbers site with really nice kits.
Paint by number! I remember that 🙂
I have a couple of puzzles we’ve never done. I think I’ll set up a table with one of those… it’ll give us something to do when we need a distraction.
I gave my husband a jigsaw puzzle of a New Yorker cover for Christmas. Maybe I’ll insist we pull it out,
Here the PBN site (no affiliation). https://maxnovelty.com/collections/diy-pbn
Which NYer cover? I have the opera house one.
It’s got a cat on a bed with cityscape on the background.
LizzieB, can you share the paint-by-numbers site? If linking here is out, please email ann dot dalrymple at geemail. Much appreciated!
See above. ?
Oh how lovely; thanks for letting me know about the Berlin Philharmonic! I did know about the Met; it’s nice of these groups to make these things available.
I’m sad that through all this, I do not have more free time. It’s not like I hung out with people at all during the week anyway, since work is so demanding. If I do get any free time, I might try some painting, or maybe it’ll give me a chance to focus more on my music or writing. And the garden needs lots of attention in early spring!
I just went down a Mitzah rabbit hole this morning, I imagine you smell great! My sister lives in Vallejo – mentioned the same thing – I just got an email that all masses are canceled! (Philadelphia)I’ve never heard of that. We’re technically not in a shelter in place I don’t think so, but everyone here is staying home and only taking walks and going to the grocery store or pharmacy, or medical appointments if necessary.
One of 2 services last Sunday got streamed but quality was choppy. I hope it’s better this Sunday. Nevertheless, I heard on the radio that Catholics who don’t go to Mass due to extenuating circumstances will not be considered to have committed a sin (or something like that). I went to Catholic school (even though I’m not one) and we had no choice but to attend Mass as we were all required to troop into the auditorium once a week to attend as part of a school day.
SotD is
L’âme perdue, by Le Galion
First try, i like it a lot!!! Flowers, spices, plum, vanilla….smooth and creamy.
You might want to try Ella (Arquiste) at some point. It’s another Flores-Roux exploring a similar theme. I prefer L’Âme, it feels a bit more lush, but Ella is great as well.
You all are giving me such a lemming for this one 🙂
It’s very good. Ella loses a bit on dry down, compared to l’AP. But at the same time it’s more cheerful and possible more suited to spring and summer.
I’m rather a Flores-Roux fangirl 🙂 Though I didn’t like Ella. But l’AP sure sounds like my kind of thing.
Do you like Œillet? It shares some notes with AP.
Flores-Roux sure knows how to make beautiful spicy florals! ??
He was also the nose behind Œillet bengale and Jasmin Rouge right? Love those as well.
I didn’t know about Jasmin Rouge (I mostly overlook TF fragrances) but Œillet is his creation as well.
Flores-Roux has mentioned in his interview in Les New that L’AP is his favourite.
Ooh Oeillet is so great and now I’m lemming AP
Irish Leather. I’m bravely giving all Memo samples another try, but this one’s a bit of a challenge. I get a strong, strident, overbearing “male cologne” note.
We are establishing a family routine of sorts – the dog now gets two long walks so that I can get my younger daughter out and about in the afternoon. We walk in a somewhat remote agricultural orchard area in the Delta (off leash, not a ton of other people), so you can walk with a friend and keep your 6ft distance, too.
Is that the Nor Cal Delta? Or another area?
Nor Cal Delta. It’s not super pastoral or even really pretty, but it’s really close, we get to see otters and sea lions many mornings and lots of turtles and birds and the occasional coyote. Plus, off leash for the dogs, and it’s a 3 mile loop which is perfect for the non-ambitious runner.
My late parents lived in Brentwood, on the edge of the Delta. I drove across to my sister’s in Stockton a lot also. And took occasional back road trips up toward Sacto. I love it.
SOTD is Lubin Idole. Gosh this is lovely — boozy smoky saffron leather — why don’t I wear it more often? Oh right, Too Much Perfume.
Strange times here, my county has joined the general SF Bay Area ‘shelter in place’. Well I’m pretty good with hermitting, not sure about DH, but we’ll get it sorted.
I was trading email last evening with the owner of Tigerlily perfume shop in SF. They have to close, of course. She is trying to sort out if she might still be able to ship online orders. These small businesses will really need our support.
Yes, small businesses are going to suffer the most I would guess.
I’ve been wondering about this too re. small businesses – if I shop online for “frivolous things”, do I do the right thing because I help stay them afloat or do I do the wrong thing because someone needs to ship it and someone needs to deliver the mail to me and it’s non-essential and I don’t really need it delivered right now? I’ve been puzzling over this with Poshmark, too, for example.
I’m in Lovely again. Was hoping to have the day off from work but no such luck
My daughter got an email from her university that classes have moved online for the remainder of the year. She will be notified as to when she will be able to get her stuff out of the dorm. She is crushed and I am heartbroken for her.☹️ We both understand the reasoning of course but what an anticlimactic way to end the semester and her last year in the dorms. Not to mention that vibrant energy that fills the campus as the school year comes to an end. Sigh.
We are doing our part to self isolate. Thankful for technology and streaming services.
Be well everyone.✌️
Awww, that is a bummer for your daughter. But kids are resilient, and imagine how happy their reunion will be when it finally comes!
How is your hospital doing? My husband works in a state hospital ICU and they’re mask-rationing. Every time they need a mask (surgical, not even usingN95), they have to call the supervisor and wait for one ?
I read “mask-rotating” first! Rationing is not great either, though.
It wastes a surprising amount of time and creates delays in care. No bueno, especially in an ICU ? And they are probably “rotating” somewhere, or reusing the same one for days. This is partly due to visitors, and probably staff as well, stealing boxes of masks for personal use in the last few weeks.
Holy cow! No PPE, no workie! Do they not have PAPR helmets for vent dependent patients? That’s just crazy he can’t get an N95 at MINIMUM!
They haven’t even done a proper in service about any of this. They had an online town hall yesterday, which they only notified via email. And it was hospital/university-wide. Not dept specific. So very general and a lot of talk about nsg and med students.
Our hospital, which is an elective (end-of-life) facility with no ER, seems much more prepared and planned/protocolled (except they completely forgot to address the liaisons who do referrals (me) at other hospitals, until yesterday).
I know! I told him if they didn’t in service them, he should call out. He’s frustratingly passive in these kinds of situations, unfortunately ? He’s sleeping on the couch, lol.
Anyway, I asked him about PAPR helmets and he doesn’t know what those are, lol. State-funded and far from state of the art.
Today was my first day back since Friday and there have been so many shut downs since then, I was surprised that it didn’t feel frenzied, which was good. There aren’t any confirmed cases yet??but there is an emergency preparedness plan in place and visitors are being restricted. Only 1 visitor per patient except NICU where both parents can visit. On my unit the real difference was the lack of visitors- which was nice! I wish it was like that all the time.
Also very thankful for technology. The kids are so bored!
Mine too and it’s only Tuesday! At least it was sunny out today and they were able to get outside.?
SOTM was Neela Vermeire Ashoka. I could barely smell it after 3 hours, so I just sprayed on the last drops of Guerlain L’instant pour Homme Extreme. Enjoying it greatly!
Working from home until further notice. I am not liking it much, but I am greatful not to have to commute and be exposed to danger for a while. This is also giving me the opportunity to wear more than a perfume a day, which I love.
Happy and healthy Tuesday, everyone!
Glad they’re finally having you work from home, as hard as that is for many people. And there are those little silver linings! Stay well!
Thank you, ElisaP! You too stay safe and healthy!
You will be double thunking now!
I am going to make a nice dent on samples and almost finished decants!
Really, with such an expensive perfume, it should last longer. I tried Ashoka in the BdJ traveling box, some years back and don’t even remember it, but I remember Trayee which was like a spice chest, so enjoyable.
Maybe is my skin which ate Ashoka very fast, but it is a very pretty scent. As much as I Iove incense, Trayee never worked for me, because the sandalwood amplified on me and it was overwhelming. Still, I admire it from the distance!
I’m wearing LUSH American Cream with an added spritz of ELDO Antiheros for some lavender calm.
I made a run to Rite Aid this am for printer paper for WFH (and there were only 2 left!). Surprised how many people are still out on the main drag today. And many older/elderly! I think some people literally don’t watch any news. Some were wearing latex gloves but still shopping and socializing with friends so maybe don’t understand the 3-6ft away thing? I also think the language barrier may be a factor since a lot of the elderly here are Polish and many don’t speak English well. I do wish them well…?
Rite aid twins! Lol
I think you are right about the language barrier. Alot of my customers speak little english. They are mainly the ones still shopping.
Interesting… but kind of scary.
I am just back from CVS … had to get a prescription for my sister who is overseas. Tons of people, and everyone touching everything…I refused to even sign on the touch screen, which looked filthy btw, and I must have been the first because he looked surprised but then said I don’t blame you.
Ugh. Remember odd/even days for gas? They should do that for shopping.
YES, and esp. for toilet paper which is now just about the only thing you cannot seem to find near me.
Anyway, I’m presuming many of us (here in NYC, anyway) have already been exposed. I’m pretty sure I have. I have a friend and her partner that have been sick for weeks already and both got tested yesterday, since one has rheumatoid arthritis. I’ve been with that friend in the recent past, when she was feeling ill.
Another spouse of a friend who is “presumed positive” since he was tested for a bunch of other viruses, all negative. Sat next to him 2 days before he went to urgent care. I don’t know that when I had a flu-ish thing in January, that wasn’t covid. The response was just too slow everywhere, but also in a city this dense where most people use public transportation.
Scary thought but you’re probably right.
I also think they should reserve the early hours for seniors only.
AA Pamplelune. I put it on before I saw the theme this week, but it fits.
🙂
Nice to see you Elisa.
Wearing Shangrila and still waiting to hear the results of my COVID 19 test. They said I would hear either way, probably yesterday but they must be run off their feet. Does anyone have a recommendation for a HAPPY book? Can’t handle anymore bad news.
I really hope your test is a negative
I can recommend an older one. Horse Heaven by Jane Smiley. Absolutely charming.
Jess Walters, Beautiful Ruins. It’s a love story but not sappy, it’s funny, and it’s big.
The Sweet Potato Queens Book of Love is my go-to book when I need a laugh.
I don’t have a book recommendation but I am wishing you well!
Best wishes for your test. My family and other animals by Geral Durrell is a happy book for me.
All the best to you..for a very easy and positive read..I have always liked Johnathan Livingston Seagull.
The Rosie Project is really funny, a quirky love story that made me laugh out loud throughout the whole thing.
Wodehouse, always.
What about Winnie the Pooh?
Sending good vibes your way!!!
My favorite happy book is The Princess Bride, which yes, is actually a book! You will recognize a lot of the movie but it’s got some nice stuff in there that wouldn’t have fit the movie format!
I love the movie , but the book has my heart. Great recommendation.
Hope you hear soon and that the news is good!
“The Complete Calvin and Hobbes” book set. I loved the comic!
Hoping for a negative result and I just finished “Between the Forest and the Stars”. It was excellent. Touching, funny unusual.
Man are there some good suggestions here!
I am in Istanbul Gallivant. Nice and cozy. I managed to do 2.5 hours of work this morning and mow mr. Yasmina is doing his own 2.5 hours. That’s the most we can manage with small kids and no care
Good luck to you both yasmina!
Good on you! It must be hard work. I hope you manage to find some sort of new rhythm.
Came home from work because sinus/allergies my head just feels awful. I hate to use the sick day, but I had too. Stopped at rite aid on my way home for allergy medicine and found water and toilet paper! Fyi Tues is delivery day.
Sampling JM honey and crocus. I liked it at first but the drydown isn’t really working for me, although I don’t trust my sense of smell atm.
TP! It’s a miracle!! Hope you feel better soon.
It was a miricle ! It felt like fate that I felt crummy enough to go home, LOL!
Serendipitous for sure!
We went to Costco this morning and they also had received a delivery of water and toilet paper. There was a long line and they were handing out vouchers for TP so I was glad we got there an hour before opening so we were actually able to get one pack. It was a madhouse though.
They had a limit of two, so that’s what I got.
I didn’t attempt costco or winco as i heard the lines went around building or down a block or whatever. No thank you!
This sinus trouble has gone on for far too long. Are you taking new antibiotics. Maybe a 2nd medical opinion would be a good idea?
Of JM perfumes, I only care for Myrrh and Tonka, Pomegranate Noir and French Lime Blossom, but these three I really like a lot.
I am trying something new this week. I don’t think it’s helped that there has been some minor construction going on at work, but I think they are finishing today. I so want to love JM, but it looks like it’s not meant to be.
Have you tried Mimosa & Cardamom? I like all those that you’ve mentioned and this one as well, so I thought it might be to your liking as well.
Thank you Undina, no I haven’t, on the list it goes.
I haven’t found a JM that’s rocked my boat so far. And I’ve sampled a fair number of them. I think they use ambroxan in the base of many/most of them.
I do smell ambroxan in this one.
Hurray for finding some TP!
Cuir de Lancôme because it goes so well with my cream-colored hooded sweatshirt from Uniqlo (??).
May go for a walk in a while…while we can. Gotta get the husband some exercise…he’s like one of those dogs that’ll make life miserable if it can’t get out. Keep our distance from others but get some fresh air. Don’t need any supplies. He is cooperating with distance and isolation but this will help mood.
Two Zoom calls today and one more scheduled for this evening. That’ll make four in 24 hours. These aren’t work but are church related, since everything is cancelled. Technology is amazing.
I need to learn Zoom – I played around with it yesterday but was not super successful. I will probably do an online training session in a moment since I want to use it to host drop in office hours next week.
I did manage to create and upload my first youtube video, though – I was told seeing me with my pet might be nice for the students, turns out I don’t look too good in videos and the dog is camera shy… 🙂
Oh how I wish that I had that one with me! You smell warm cozy and happy!
SoTD is Amouage Fate, a comfort scent for me. Should I buy Theorema? Is it a lot like Azemour, bitter orange chypre, or Anne Pliska, marshmallowy Tang? Both are great, depending on mood. It’s pretty pricey on the Bay, don’t want to blind buy, but it gets so much love here.
Creamier and less summery than Azemour. Less amber than Anne Pliska.
Hope someone else will chime in. I don’t know if I’d buy it at this point if its pricey.
I didn’t find it to be at all like Azemour – it is more a winter comfort scent, like a hot spiced drink with orange rind.
Yes, thank you, you put it much better than I did.
Yes, reminded me of Constant Comment tea! But less spicy and slightly creamy.
Theorema is not a safe blind buy in my opinion.
It’s strange to see so many places shut down. Good thing that the grocery stores are still open. I have never seen so many people get so upset when something is sold out or severely rationed. There isn’t enough food, semi trucks or drivers to keep up with demand, thus the rationing. Was out with a friend and we went through McDonald’s drive through for lunch today. Wearing no 22 extrait. I am happy that I spotted that bottle of Ebay for under $100 a year or two ago.
Love n22 – and love ebay. 🙂
The owner of where I work has been reluctant to close, so some of the massage therapists are just calling out each day and I decided that my manager should just take me off the books for three weeks. One coworker is doing 2 weeks off while another has basically quit in that she’ll call them when she feels safe to work again. If they close then I can get unemployment.
SOTD is Amun Re:The Tears of Ra. Guess I’ve got three weeks of sampling ahead of me
I am surprised anybody would come in?
They’re stressed and they suddenly have a lot more flexibility with time. Better for my mental health to not be working since I sort of absorb some of their energy when they’re trying to talk through their anxiety
Interesting. If I was anxious about my health in this context I would not go get a massage, personally.
My niece is a massage therapist and she stopped working a couple weeks ago I think — she’s out west.
I didn’t post yesterday because I was having an anxiety meltdown, but feeling better today. Wearing 4160 Tuesdays Truth Beauty Freedom Love. I think this is going to be my signature scent for the pandemic.
Sending calming hugs! It is tough, but it will pass eventually. ?
My most comforting scent is Paris, it got me through med school. I would add some 5 extra sprays whenever I had to take exams. Mind you, exams did not cause me a whole lot of anxiety back then, but still.
I love the name of your SOTD and am going to look it up.
Thank you austenfan.
I looked for you yesterday and wondered if you were speeding up the highway to Canada. Is the plan stii for Friday?
Yes, we are leaving early Friday morning!
So glad you are feeling more cheerful today. Safe travels.
I’ve been very anxious too. But Truth Beauty Freedom Love are some of the most admirable things about humanity. A good mantra.
My meltdown was yesterday too. Still feelin a bit ugh today but grateful a grocery store had some items and ppl were generally courteous. Times like these can bring ppl together..as long as not too close together I guess lol.
So glad you feel a bit better today too. I was grateful to be able to buy the items I needed today as well, that helped me feel calmer.
Yeah for sure, I was highly anxious going shopping..guess I was bracing for a scene from Supermarket Sweep lol..but it wasn’t bad and I am thankful.
Sorry cazaubon, and everyone who is having meltdown!
I’m getting there, today I’m just being just sort of unproductive.
Glad you’re feeling better today 🙂
I like the idea of a fragrance to mark a period – I hope I don’t have future negative connotations with the scent- maybe I will pick Voile d’Ambre which is what I’m wearing today.
So sorry for the stress!!!
Would you be willing to tell me more about this scent?
It sounds like everything the world needs right now!
Here you go:

Honey, apricot, and hay? Sounds great
Glad you’re better today. I think the only time I will venture out is when my phone holder arrives (it goes to my mail service)…it will make it easier for me to have my video calls so I don’t have to constantly adjust.
Hang in there! It is very tough with all the stress and uncertainty but we are always more resilient and remarkable than we sometimes feel. ?
Chypre Siam for another day with crazy news. The plus side is, that i now go for a long walk with the boyfriend, because he works from home. And today was beautiful with blooming cherry trees and a nice sunset.
We have been walking in the evenings. The early magnolias are out…
I’m commando because I have a cold and am stuffed up. I also have a cough, but no fever or body aches, so I’m hoping it’s not flu or cv. Just sleeping a lot and chewing my zinc+elderberry lozenges. I also have a medicinal tea called Throat Coat. It tastes rather vile but helps my sore throat. It has slippery elm, licorice, and other things. Dusty is hanging in there, eating, and even playing, despite his big tumor. I’m grateful for that. Mom’s place is all shut down. That’s good but I’m sad she can’t have visitors. I sent her a big bouquet.
I hope you feel better soon Calypso
Flowers are right, I bet your mother was thrilled.
I read an Australian brief report that zinc does reduce coronavirus infection time. Also, tonic water – quinine, chloroquinolone disrupts the fatty molecules in the virus coating, sort of like soap for the insides. Gin and tonics for all. And zinc lozenges…
My husband must have read that report too…we should have worried less about the toilet paper and more about the Hendrick’s 😉
I could go for a gin and tonic right now and I don’t even like gin lol.
*are always right. And feel better soon
Feel better soon! I sent my mom a bouquet as well.
Feel better soon!
Healing wishes, yes i have a tea called breathe something or other.
Oh no! Feel better soon!
I hope that your cold goes away ASAP!
Evo share well damn brain
Even share of wild ombre
Evil chef of wild on break
Either a shared well done Brad
Yves Rocher Voile d’Ambre!
Cold cloudy day, smelling great
Haha! Voice dictation options?
Yes 🙂 I was living without voice dictation for a year – it was the worst! Now I just won’t stop using it ?
?
Hours of fun, lol ?
Reached for Violetas Francesas splash cologne, which I got at a Mexican grocery store years ago. It’s not striking me as super-soothing today.
I’d be out working in the yard, but it’s not a nice day. Earlier today, I was watching the Cornell University Ornithology Lab “Bird Cams.” They have bird cams set up in various spots in the country, and a couple in the tropics.
The barred owl has laid a couple of eggs. I watched pretty consistently for two months or so in 2017 as the owlets from that year hatched and grew. They were in the “so ugly they’re cute” category.
I also like to watch the birds at the feeders at the Cornell campus itself, and the tropical birds unaffected by winter.
Here at home we’ve seen male and female cardinals and male and female downy woodpeckers on the suet, so I expect there will be chicks around somewhere soon. 🙂
So ugly they’re cute, I can just imagine those baby owls.
Barred owls are a type of owl that has dark eyes, even the nestlings. The owlets have a head that’s relatively large compared to their little bodies, dominated by enormous black eyes and a beak. Otherwise, they’re covered in white down for a few months. So they look like little fluffy gargoyles.
“So ugly they’re cute” is a good description of owlets until they start getting their feathers and fledge.
The library is finally closing this Thursday, so no volunteering on Saturday and no more French class to give. Working from home is a mixed blessing.
In Robert Piguet Visa, which I find very plummy but not complaining.
Our library closed. The food bank where I volunteer closed (although they are making sure people still have food). Gym closed. You would think I would be getting so much done around the house, but nope, not really!
Oh that’s wonderful to volunteer at a foodbank, Robin. Yes, me too I’m running out of excuses to let housekeeping take care of itself.
It’s too boring when it is all there is to do!
Elizabeth & James Nirvana White. I wrote this one off back in 2015. Was not impressed. Loved the Nirvana Black for the vanilla/violet/sandalwood combo. Just bought a set of Black & White off ebay, and am now really into the White.
Working from home, get to wear whatever I want! Should be going for non-office friendly, but White is just hitting the spot so there’s that.
Going for dental appointment tomorrow morning, getting a crown. Won’t wear anything for that, or for the giant nap I will take after it is over. I hate dentist appointments. But have put this one off for over a year, so it is time to get it over with.
Interesting, I did not like the White either and now you’re making me wonder.
Switched to Irish Leather from a sample..cause well…Saint Paddy would like it.?☘
Mr. Jalapeno got a text from his work at 4 this afternoon saying that effective tomorrow, only necessary personnel will be admitted to his place of business. He will be working from home until further notice. ??
SOTD = more vintage Diorissimo EdT. I thunked the last of one dabber sample yesterday, and opened up another one for today. Plus, Elisa P sent me a lovely decant a while back. I’m set for LotV for a while.
Oh, gosh. Good luck with that.
At least you smell lovely. 🙂
Fingers crossed for luck! And thanks for the perfume compliment!
? Good luck!
Thank you!
Ha! One mod my cousins also started working from home. His FB post said he got introduced to 2 strangers: his wife and son ?
So far, not too bad. Hopefully we won’t go stir crazy!
SoTD is Bengale Rouge – I just love love LOVE this one. It is so comforting and always makes me deeply sigh with pleasure.
I wonder what beauties I might be ready for, and what classics I have sadly already missed. Ones that are as intoxicating as this and a bit more of a deeper dive into the note combination.
This is absolutely one of my very favorite perfumes. It is “My happy place”.
It’s a beaut, for sure! You smell wonderful!
So working from home has not allowed me to post earlier, but nevertheless, I joined the party. After I logged off, I decided to take a walk to alleviate cabin fever. I live in a residential neighborhood and there were only a few people out but it is likely because it was dinner time.
SOTD = Tauerville Vanilla Flash
Nice!

What a mess we’re in. Trying to be hopeful but it will be worse before it gets better.
So many businesses have closed temporarily which is the right thing to do.
Stay safe everyone! Now going back to read the comments.
Stay safe yourself! Vanilla Flash is really good!
I got an email saying Chanel was closing..
That’s one today, as well as Nordstrom ?.
I heard about Macy’s and Bath & Body Works closing all their stores earlier today.
Social distancing in CELINE Saint Germain Des Pres.
Still working from the actual office but sprayed copious amounts of No. 19 edp before I went- ya know, “if you don’t like it, stay at least 6 feet away from me.”
Thinking of you all during these trying times. Hope you’re all powering through and I know you’re smelling lovely. Hugs.
Wearing Chanel Paris-Venise tonight for some calming.
Stressful day today, and just tried to set up my home computer to work at home. With the instructions given to us, it didn’t work (for me nor my 2 buddies) so that was really frustrating.. At least it wasn’t only me!
Is this week over yet?
You smell great. Three more fun-filled days…I am counting… ⏰?
