Wednesday scent of the day 3/11

Posted by Robin on 11 March 2020 161 Comments

Hump Day and Johnny Appleseed Day. Birthdays: Ezra Jack Keats, Douglas Adams, Bobby McFerrin. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm testing Lush Turmeric Latte Body Spray (thanks hajusuuri), or at least I will be when I am fully awake. (Happy Sleep Awareness Week, by the way.)

Reminder: 3/13 is National Jewel Day...wear your blingiest, most attention-grabbing perfume.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note:  top image shows the Lush Turmeric Latte bath bomb.

SL Vetiver Oriental. Day two of continuous rain here, but walking to work, I pass by a whole row of some type of juniper trees. Everything is so saturated and the aroma wafting from those trees is amazing! I wish I could bottle it.

One more shift tomorrow and I am buh-bye! ?

Twins. I’m also in Vetiver Oriental. I am pleased I finally got to try it but it won’t be joining my collection. However, I’ll enjoy it once in a while on the right day.

I had a different yet similar experience on my afternoon walk the other day. It’s warm and humid here and I was walking along a hedge of trimmed boxwood. There’s just nothing like that smell. It borders on cat pee, yet it’s so beautiful! Nature contains many depths.

      Where are you headed next?

More of Idyllwild for me today. Yep, getting closer to needing a FB of this.

That Lush spray sounds intriguing. Turmeric is quite popular these days. I’ve got a number of recipes I’m planning to try that require this spice. Haven’t looked but does Starbucks have a turmeric latte yet?

The Lush spray smells better than a real Turmeric Latte tastes…

SL Santal Blanc. I didn’t think I would like this (just wanted to try a more sandalwood-y fragrance as Santal Majuscule is all about milky rose for me) and I honestly don’t think that I “like” it, but my hand reaches for it of its own volition. It is rainy here, in the hand’s defense.

I think this is the old formulation. It starts very vinegary (I see some people mention sarsaparilla), then peppery and irisy and finally pencils. I don’t get fenugreek, which I do get in Jungle l’Elephant. I think SB is growing on me, the first time this has happened to me. Usually I am very decisive: like or don’t like and steadfast in my opinions. I’ve also heard the new formulation is “sheer and more likeable”. The only two SLs that I could definitely tell had been reformulated was A la Nuit (much more watery than the original) and Daim Blonde (I tried the original when I just got interested in perfume and when I thought of buying it, suddenly its rich character was gone and it was a pale osmanthus instead of a rich apricot).

Full on sparkling again today in Eau de Merveilles. Just a spritz before heading to a workshop, then will shower and load it up.

Second morning in a row I have found a random acorn in my bathroom. Agnes kitty is grabbing them from a bowl on the coffee table and is, as my mother would say, “playing them away.”

When she was a kitten, my Annabelle used to snatch the little Mexican folk doll that I purchased from the Cincinnati Zoo off my dresser and “hide” it under the kitchen table. I still assume that it amused her to no end, but I still can’t figure out how she had gotten up on the dresser in the first place.

Coromandel, just because. In my recent cabinet clean out, I found that I’m on my last decant (I’ve been through several) and I don’t want to lose a drop.
Still watching old movies for escapism. Most recently it’s been Jean Harlow movies but I’ve really fallen in love with films from the 1930s since they were made to be a distraction from the Great Depression and they work the same way today. Also I’m kind of obsessed with the female star’s pencil thin eyebrows that seem to be way higher than where normal eyebrows are, they must have shaved them off then drawn them back on? Oh, and if you need a lift and don’t mind a musical, Fred & Ginger in Top Hat are mesmerizing.

Thanks to a very kind NSTer

Work was very disappointing and kinda stressful today. I dont know if I should laugh or be angry.
Nobody gets hurt in the end. its just that some folks are not cooperating for vague reasons and its super frustrating.

I know work is hardly worth losing sleep over, so i try hard not to haha. The positive outcome, i learned a few lessons about my relatively new work environment.

Oh that’s tough about work, I do think many people are very stressed out now about the Coronavirus and the economy. Perhaps you can find at least one person there to bond with.

Luckily there are lots of folks to bond with, and someone offered me cake and gave me a compliment on how I am handling things. So there is that. ?And some people feel as frustrated as I am about this.

In this case it has nothing to do with stress because of Corona. But one person had a difficult history with someone sometime. Its something I had nothing to do with. And now that someone is not cooperating.

And its so unprofessional, I cannot even compute… If we cannot solve this together I need to play this harder. Its totally not my style, but I can be tough when I have to. ??

In other news, I can’t get my cat in to see the veterinary oncologist for three weeks! So I’m getting a referral to another one. I really hope they can see him sooner as I fear he’s getting another lump. I didn’t realize how hard this was going to be. There are a few options but this new place has been praised by a friend so I want to try them first.

Wearing a little bit of Jicky extrait because I’m on a plane going back home from the trade show. Now a couple of weeks working from home to see how useful that event was for the company: will be a miracle if no one gets sick. I really question a buffet-style self-serving meals in such times, especially with finger food: you’re touching tongs and spoons that dozens of others touched before you and then use same hands to put that food into your mouth.
Well, at least nobody looks at me funny any more when I’m wiping everything around me on a plane. I’ve been doing it for years. And now everyone around me, even men, are doing the same.

Crazy, busy day at work coordinating contingency plans in the event we have to work from home due to the Covid-19. It seems to be eminent. We are also working in our regular projects at a high speed to try to meet deadlines earlier than the due date. We barely have time to breath.

Wearing Thierry Mugler Oriental Express, thanks to Lillyjo and I am loving it. The sweet powdery notes are beautiful and comforting and perfect for a stressful day.

Take care and stay healthy, everyone!

SOTD = Unum Opus 1144 – this is a great rich flowery incense perfume, to my nose. I find the clunky bottle that it comes in totally inappropriate for the juice, and that is why I haven’t already bought a FB of it.

My hospital has directed teams should not be in contact with one another, to decrease the chances of an entire group all getting sick at the same time. This means my office mate and I will be spelling each other, working from home on alternate weeks. Terrible it takes a pandemic to do this, but working from home every other week will greatly improve my quality of life – almost 3 hours a day saved from commuting….

SotD trying out L’artisan Parfumeur Noir Exquis. Was hoping for a more pronounced coffee note but as an intense vanilla-chestnut-tonka it’s quite nice.

Gave myself a haircut today… I hated my last cut after 1-2 days but stylists have a hard time letting my fine hair grow back out. “Reshaping” always takes it well back into pixie territory whereas the reality is there has to be an in-between length between pixie and bob, and it WILL be awkward.

I definitely can’t claim to have done a professional job, but at least I won’t regret paying money to set me back another month of regrowth!

My hair won’t grow even so long as my collarbones, but I’ve adapted to liking short styles generally and I *did* agree to try what the stylist wanted in taking it up even more – it just wasn’t me! We’ll see how long I last with this grow out before I lose patience ?

Eeek. So, I’ll say something radical here because I just heard it today from a fellow traveler’s (one of dropouts) whose daughter who loves in Houston joined us. She used to her 2-3 sinus infections a year. When her husband was found to have 2 out of 4 markers for celiac disease and the doctor recommended he go on a gluten free diet, she also followed suit. Since then, and it had been 5 years, she’s only had a sinus infection 3x. Would you consider trying that after this bout is resolved?

It will be my perfume while in Houston, all day, every day. I hist threw it in to my toiletries bag when I packed as I decided a carry on was sufficient.

Today, we went to the Menil (???) and the Holocaust Museum. We’re on our way to an early dinner so we can watch the sunset at the Rice University campus.

Things seem to be getting worse with COVID-19 and there is no end in sight. Stay safe everyone! I’ll be posting pics in my IG account…slow drip as usual as I like to sort, pick out and identify / write my thoughts on it whether short or long.

Luxuriating in Cuir de Russie parfum AND eau de parfum today — I may have uncharacteristically over-indulged.

Mitigating factors: I picked them up in an incredible „three for the price of two“ offer at London Stansted this week; and if my indulgence means that people are avoiding coming too close, that‘s to the benefit of my immune-damaged mum:)

Here‘s sending healthy thoughts into the ether!
