Wednesday scent of the day 2/12

Posted by Robin on 12 February 2020 315 Comments

Hump Day, Darwin Day and Lincoln’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

For me, a repeat of yesterday, and the day before, and likely tomorrow: still on vacation, (still behind on reading comments), still in Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess.

Reminder: 2/14 we're celebrating Valentine's Day. Wear the perfume you are most smitten with at the moment, or, wear a perfume given to you by a significant other.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

You are very early today Robin! You must be in a different time zone.

My SOTD is Carnal Flower. My CF body oil arrived yesterday. It is stunningly beautiful and the bottle reminds me a little of Aladdins lamp. Mingled with this is the scent of Œillet Mignardise as I keep several of those soaps with my clothes.

Yes, an hour difference, and also the sun is bright and wakes us up early!

How lovely to have the body oil, you must smell fantastic.

I only used very little, but the scent is very, very close to the edp (that I’m also wearing).
I’m looking forward to using it on my hair this summer.

It is. I hesitated a long time between the oil and the butter, but chose the oil in the end as it seemed the more versatile option.

Oh how I wish one could find those soaps easily (and at reasonable price) in the U.S.

They are not that easy to find in Europe either. The others are much more available.
I actually do not use them as a skin soap, I find them a tad too drying, but they work wonders with my woollen cardigans.

CF body oil sounds good. I like CF the perfume but can’t wear it – a little heavy for me

The oil wears slightly closer to the skin, but it still packs quite a punch. I don’t find CF heavy at all, but it does have a considerable presence.

You smell lovely and I think you just convinced me to acquire this.
I like and wear the perfume but I could do with something a bit closer to skin, a bit less presence.
I have had the POAL body oil for a few years now and enjoy it a lot (I don’t use it all over and so it lasts and lasts).

Really well! A humble salon esthetically but the stylist did a very good job on the highlights and also the cut. He really ‘got’ my hair and the price was really good for NYC standards. We also had quite a few laughs as he shared his perspective of US politics as a Russian. The guy was hilarious.

        Thank you for asking!

SOTD is Lush Jungle Body Spray. It really smells like a tropical forest. I am not getting any vetiver and only a little ylang. The predominant note is probably cypress, because I definitely can smell some kind of coniferous tree.

Robin’s mention of Theorema as one of the perfumes she would rescue in the apocalypse intrigued me so much I ordered a mini. I also got sample of Bois des Iles so I can try it for a bit before deciding if I should get that for my bday next month instead of a BUB of Coromandel.

So there will be lots of new stuff for me to sniff when I’m finally back home Friday

One of my cats died today. I had her for 9 years. Her name was Lily. After going to the vet Saturday she was not doing well, so I arranged to do a drop-in with her this afternoon. While in my car, driving to the vet, I heard a gurgling sound and she didn’t move again. I have 4 other cats, but each one is special. I will miss Lily so much.

    Jambo!
No foot surgery needed! Whew, what a relief. Just wear my air boot for four more weeks.
One of our perfect days in Africa was the thousands and thousands of flamingos ? at Ngorongoro crater. I could see the shimmer of pink from miles away. Breathtaking.
A touch of vetiver and golden vanilla post shower, me thinks.

Wow. 7:40 AM in my neck of the woods, and 40+ comments already. We fumies are restless today!

I am testing Anthologie de Grandes Cru Ambre Stone de Patelier–its pretty awesome so far.

First article in my news feed this AM was about Erykah Badu and her planned vagina-scented incense (apparently Paltrow has done a candle????). It was nice to get a story that was on something other than the primaries… but golly!!

Don’t take my word for it: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2020/feb/12/erykah-badu-gwyneth-paltrow-vagina-scent-perfume-incense?utm_term=RWRpdG9yaWFsX0d1YXJkaWFuVG9kYXlVUy0yMDAyMTI%3D&utm_source=esp&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=GuardianTodayUS&CMP=GTUS_email

I have too much time on my hands these days, but generally come up with ideas to make people smell better, not worse. What is with these celebrities and their obsession with sex and body parts? It’s like teenagers who found a Playboy for the first time.

Rainy weather here as well. I’ve had a couple of days of appointments and blah things to do, so had to stick rigorously to work appropriate perfumes. I think my grab-in-an-apocalypse perfumes would be Theo Fennell and PR La Nuit, BUT the bottles that are being drained are Caleche Eau Delicate and FM LPdT, which makes me feel like a woman to be reckoned with. Which perhaps is a reflection of my male dominated work environment. Sad.

My current perfume note love affair (and has been since the summer) is citrus, especially all-things-orange.
I’m in a sample of Perris Monte Carlo Mandarino di Sicilia, which I was saving for warmer weather, but craved it today. It smells like a freshly peeled mandarin with all the bitter and green bits of the rind in there. Really like this one!

I’m also looking for recommendations! I also really like TF Mandarino di Amalfi which is a bit more watery, but also very juicy and realistic smelling, and lasts fairly well for the genre. I may hunt down a decant of that one.
Have you tried the Nicolai Nerolis? They both smell very orange-y to me.
I guess the Atelier oranges are usually recommended, but I don’t love them, myself.

I’m up late after staying awake until 2:30 to finish the French series on Netflix “Bonfire of Destiny.” I recommend it highly! It’s based on a real event, a terrible fire at a charity bazaar in Paris in the 1890’s. Many women were killed, both aristocrats and maids. The series follows the fates of three women who survived. It’s very complex but fascinating. Most of all, it’s so beautiful! The homes, gardens, clothes, children, streets of Paris, ooh la la! Like an extended Manet painting! Lots of social commentary too.

No perfume yet but lingering Santal de Mysore (SL) from last night.

That 1st episode with the fire, though. I had to take a break mid watch. But I also really enjoyed it and thought it was visually beautiful.
I think I compared it to a cross between Les Mis and the film The Favourite.

In No 5 vintage extrait on my wrists, after having been in the inoffensive Jil Sander Sun, I don’t indulge often in No 5, but it really is so enjoyable when I do feel like it.

I love No. 5 but last time I wore it, a younger guy said to me, “You smell like baby powder or I feel like I am at my grandma’s house and she’s gunna make me cookies..which actually I kinda like, so ya it’s kinda hot”. LOL.

It’s my library scent at the moment. The scent is subtle, it recalls a sunscreen/cosmetic scent quite enjoyable actually, oh and it smells great on my scarf where it lingers, I use 4 sprays which is a lot for me. And it’s been around a long time. I too only knew No 4 which I enjoy very much.

I’m trying to comment every day, but I need to comment first, then read comments, else I never get to commenting. I love that teapot from yesterday!
I’m wearing Amouage’s Imitation Woman from a sample. I hear nothing about this one but I find it strangely compelling. I can’t figure out if I like it or don’t like it, but I keep sniffing.
Can anyone recommend sample/decant sized sprayers? I’d like to get some 2, 5, and 10 ml. But I don’t want to send wonky leaky sprayers to people when sharing/splitting. I don’t even know if there are brands or if one just plays the Amazon third-party lottery.
    Have a lovely-smelling day!

Back then I decided to buy myself a perfume for my 25th birthday (Bottega Veneta). Today I turn 32 and am wearing this year’s gift to myself, Azemour les Orangers!

My mother died three weeks ago after a very short illness. She was such a wonderful friend and huge presence in my life that for the first three days afterwards I found my ears pricking up at the hourly radio news broadcasts…in my muddled state my brain kept tricking me into thinking that her death must have made the news (instead, it was Kobe Byrant). It is so odd to feel orphaned at 56.
The day after tomorrow my son and only child will pack his bags and leave home. He is so excited and I am happy for him, of course.
I seem to have lost my sense of smell but I find a great deal of solace in my walks around the old graveyard and out with the dogs. I am so, so sad.

Oh Kanuka, I’m so sorry for your loss. I know of what you speak – tomorrow marks the fifth anniversary of my parents’ funerals – they died six weeks apart and were buried at the same time. To lose a parent is a great, great loss, and when they’re both gone it can feel like you’re set adrift and yes, orphaned. Of course the departure of your son must feel bittersweet following so closely on the heels of your mother’s death.

I’m glad that you are finding moments of solace and following your heart out into nature. I missed seeing you here, and I do hope you’ll stay with us as the spirit moves you – perfumed or not. Big hug and much love to you…

I have really missed you these last few weeks and was hoping that nothing was amiss. I am so sorry for what you are going through–all sorts of anchors coming undone at once. Really sad. On top of your local friends and family, you have us–all over the world–who are concerned about you and wish we were closer to make you a bowl of good soup, to set at your table with a cold glass of wine, for when you come in from your walks.

Oh no! You had the shoulder pain around a year ago, didn’t you?

Yes, and this time it’s the other shoulder. It seems that the way my stress/anxiety expresses itself is through shoulder & neck pain.

It seems to be triggered by tax season. :-/

I had the oddest dream last night. I was with Han Solo, and some unfriendly Wookies were chasing us, so we got into the car from Back To The Future to get away from them. The car flew, but not well, more like the car in Harry Potter that eventually crashes into the Whomping Willow. Then I woke up, so I am wearing the oddest perfume I own–CdG Stephen Jones.

Haha, love it! I dreamed I went to China, and ran into an Italian friend who teaches there. (He really does.) We went sightseeing and were by a huge river with numerous vessels, and suddenly there was a blizzard and we were sliding on the ice and giggling. Somehow I think all this had to do with news coverage of the coronavirus.

Had beautiful blue skies for part of the day here, but the grey clouds have rolled back in. Ugh. At least it isn’t raining (yet). ?

SOTD = Agent Provocateur EdP. I looked thru my bottle stash and pulled this one out. I was inspired by all the people who have been wearing roses this week… this is a gorgeous dark one on me. ?

The original AP is gorgeous. I think it’s similar to Mad Madame, but less synthetic smelling.

I find that Mad Madame is a much lighter rose perfume on me. I get pink roses with that one. AP is definitely dark red roses to my nose.

Since I’m not in the mood for a chocolate fragrance, it makes sense to me.

Inspired by Koyel, I’m wearing a couple sprays of Fancy Nights. Plus I added a drop of Andy’s Rose Delight oil. Long ago I heard mentioned that Rose plus FN smells something like Coromandel; not sure if this accurate but it’s a pretty good combination anyways.

Sa Majeste la Rose today, which is one of my favorite roses! I even resprayed after work!

Had dinner with one of J’s (my hubs) friends from back east. He’s in town on business. Was good to see him. Funny how some people you just pick right up with like old times.
