Monday scent of the day 1/20

Posted by Robin on 20 January 2020 222 Comments

It's Blue Monday, the International Day of Acceptance, and Penguin Awareness Day (yes, there are penguins).

I'm in good old Diptyque Philosykos.

Reminder: on 1/24, you're Among Friends...wear a fragrance someone else wore in the scent of the day polls this week. Suggested by Regina.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Cold morning out there. I’m repeating with Bengale Rouge.

New kitty actually jumped up on the couch last night within reach so I could pet her. I ended up spooking her at some point so she ran, but it was a nice interlude. Hope she remembers the pets not the spooking…

CP is easy for me…that’s often how I choose scents.

So beautiful….it almost feels disrespectful wearing this to a boring office. But if course I just wear it because it makes this grey day so much brighter. ☺️

    Chanel La Pausa EdP.

Busy day visiting the hospice where my dad spent his last days. I am bringing some samples, decants an a full bottle, besides some other goodies to some of the residents. They always enjoy when I bring scented items. It is really comforting for the soul to visit that place. I will be running some errands also and taking mom to a doctor’s appointment. I need plenty of coffee and a good lunch to survive! ?

This is a sweet and caring community when it comes to baby buddhas, chubby monkeys, furry ones of any species and loss of any kind.

Hermes Poivre Samarcande. Because Robin posted about the special Terre d’Hermes bottle, which reminded me of Hermes, which made me think of my new favorite (which also makes me think of the very kind NST poster who sent it to me)!

Poivre Samarcande is still the one that least inspired me from the Hermessences, but I haven’t tried it in at least 5 years. Maybe next time I’m out and about I’ll give it a worthwhile try!

Coumarin, it’s definitely a quiet fragrance – a soft woodsy skin scent on me. I usually prefer subtle and I think this one is beautiful.

I often think that I get away with perfume at work because I wear it very softly AND because I wear a lot of fragrances that we perfumistas may love, but that aren’t equated with traditional perfume by the ‘civilians’ (as pixel cleverly named those who have not joined us yet in the rabbit hole).

Quiet in here this morning. Hope everyone is doing well!

I worked at an estate sale this previous weekend and though I didn’t get any perfume (thank God!) I barely had any rest. Taking it slowly this morning.

I chose Eclix today, one of those rarified discontinued gems. I love the weird bottle and its dissonance with the woody lemon custard scent inside. Very comforting on this chilly day.

Fueguia Bibioteca de Babel – a fabulous cedary sweet herbal flowery thingie – the description on the website says that Cabreuva oil is a major ingredient, dry, woody, spicy, floral. This stuff is like a slightly less dry LADDM, as if you have left the deep desert and are traveling through juniper scrub land, approaching an oasis of irrigated fields, but are not there yet. This company has a rather extensive range of interesting sounding scents. I am going to see if I can round up some samples from Luckyscent or somewhere. I am at work and don’t know where the sample I am dabbing from came from…demerits for grammar, but I smell very nice indeed. :-)

Happy MLKJr Day, friends! This is a good time to reflect on the unity and equality that he fought for.

I’m in Rose Ikebana today! I’m hobbling around the house in agony because I did a bunch of strength training yesterday for the first time in a month. All of my muscles are very annoyed at me for not having stuck with my good exercise habits. Ouch.

Also I got two very delicate little rings yesterday. I never buy any jewelry anymore, so it’s really fun to look down at my hand repeatedly. They look so pretty! I like new things.

SOTD = Papillon Perfume Bengale Rouge

LizzieB mentioned it and it fits my Indie Week where I am trying not to repeat an indie perfume / perfumery for as long as I can. Plus, it is so good!

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B7jLXV9B3Mu/?igshid=78gj4f1zak8m

I have lots to do today including unboxing my laptop (not too exciting because it’s replacing my work laptop), laundry (because I was lazy yesterday) and a few odds and ends.

And the Freebiemeet seems to be sluggish and due to what I feared would happen (and sure enough…), I will be posting them through regular channels with my qualifying rules.

I had planned on doing 1 Indie Week a month where I will wear indie perfumes (only the one I like as I don’t want to denigrate indie unless they were unscrupulous) at least 5 out of 7 days. I realized I have a lot of indie ( I am counting sample sizes) that I can keep going. I do want to mix it up so I will declare a personal Indie Week whenever I feel like it although I am sure I will be repeating the brand, the perfumer and/or the actual perfume itself.

Freebiemeet has gotten slimmer per episode since we started doing 3 a year instead of 2, but yes, this is the slimmest yet. I know there was some bad feeling after the last episode, so that probably contributes too.

Yes, it is very unfortunate. I posted one thing, and did not say specifically people I know on NST, only, please, so the dibber is some name I have never heard of, and I admit to feeling slightly taken advantage of.

There are certainly usernames that only ever surface during the freebiemeet and then pounce, without ever giving back. I was thinking about this yesterday when I half listened to something on NPR about bartering.

I think many people didn’t post because they were not aware of it, but I might be totally wrong. At least, it took me by surprise. Probably I did not pay attention to the times you mentioned the freebiemeet date. But I agree that last episode was pretty “unusual” and that might have prevented some from participating.

Hello! I’m wearing Lonesome Rider from a sample the nice folks at Scent Bar LA made me from their tucked-away tester. I begged them to sell it to me but they couldn’t but were very kind and generous with samples. What a lovely store, I got to try so many things on my list! If anyone out there has too much Lonesome Rider and would be willing to decant for swap, please email me at my user name + doublemint at gmail…. I stupidly fell in love with it RIGHT after it was discontinued.

Okay, my brain isn’t great today. It should be Muguet des Bois. Also, I meant: thanks to a lovely swapmeet person, and it’s a lovely perfume.

I didn’t have it together enough to have a list for the freebiemeet. Last week was a week of much running around for me. I would need help with postage anyway, though. I may do a list on a regular SOTD poll day.

I liked Koyel’s comments above about MLK day.

Cocchi Dopo Teatro, and you can actually get it in PA by special order, but sometimes it’s a long wait, plus it’s cheaper in other states. It’s delicious with soda & grapefruit peel, and at Christmas everyone drank all I had on hand and so have been without :-)

And got some Cocchi Vermouth di Torino (which is the base of Dopo Teatro — you could call Dopo Teatro the flanker maybe), which you can only get in PA in the larger bottle — I prefer the smaller bottles because I don’t drink it quickly enough.

I’m in Diptyque Eau Duelle. Thunked my sample and ordered a decant.? I was up early to help teach a class for new employees and apparently my alarm clock is broken because it GAINED 30 minutes overnight. I got up, showered and came downstairs to find it was really the time I originally set the alarm to get up at. Granted it’s the same alarm clock my husband took to college with him 30 some years ago, but still! I really liked it. Better early than late I guess.

I am trying to finish up a lot of things so I can actually relax. It’s going to be a very tense week the rest of the week. I am a little annoyed with TPC right now. I placed an order with them on 1/2/20 and still haven’t gotten my order. They texted me a few days ago about my order. I ordered a dirt cheap large decant and they said they only had only 1.5ml left and could either refund me for that decant or send me that 1.5ml and refund the difference. It shouldn’t have taken this long. I think that I shall wear Shalimar Ode a la Vanille (Mexican one) and make some chicken enchiladas tonight.

TPC lost my business for their lack of customer service, assumption that you’re lying unless you can prove to them that you’re not and for running out of atomizers as their excuse for slow shipping. As I may have commented once or twice or thrice, a decant business running out of atomizers is like a pizza place running out of dough – bad for business and a sign that the business is badly run.

Minor chaos here today. Some guys came to blow a bunch of cellulose insulation into the attic. They also sealed some leaks up there. Fortunately, it only took a half day. But there were a couple of chilly hours when they had to have a window open for their equipment… ??

Another update: my friend in hospital had her “closing up” surgery postponed twice. First to yesterday, and now to today. I haven’t heard any further updates to her situation yet.

SOTD = back in Relique d’Amour EdP. I am giving serious thought to getting another sample of this and Reve d’Ossian. I wouldn’t mind bottles of these, but I also have Le Maroc pour Elle on my wishlist, and have heard rumors about its impending reformulation.

I’m going to have to get an inspection done on some of the things, but I am waiting on paperwork before I make that phone call to the township.

Today I wore Diptyque Oud Pulao, because Lucasi posted a lovely photo of it on Instagram over the weekend, reminding me of how much I like it. Sprayed it on about six hours ago and it still smells rich and lovely.

My SOTD is vanishing Iris. Seriously – put on “tears of Iris” (I think that’s the name?) by Gucci and poof – two hours later, gone. Happy Monday!

I ordered this from a Saks but I got a call because they thought my order was fraudulent. Anyway, was it good for the two hours it stayed present?

Had a nice day off just hanging around home other than walking to pick up lunch. Put some PoaL hair and body oil on my upper right arm after shower to see if I like it more than the EDP. I do, but it still doesn’t feel like me. I’ll probably put it up on the next swap meet. It’s just a 15ml decant. Also tried a spray of Noir Epices on the other upper arm and verdict is still out on that one.

After committing two strong scents to my upper arms, I needed a scent of the day that could stand up so I chose Tauer Une Rose Chypre.

Wore EldO Vierges et Toreros today. Was in need of a little pep for week two of managing a creation residency for a contemporary circus show where we would be down 2/5 artists for a nice, frigid, -23 with wind chill Monday.

I arrived pepped. The artistic team was limp and testy all day, bleh.

But I got back (finally) at least a little good news from my accounting firm towards the end of the day about them fixing one of my tax returns they screwed up (very badly) for 2018.

I do not owe $9000CAD to the federal government for 2018, but am in fact entitled to a combined $5000 refund. That’s right, a ***$14,000*** error in magnitude on their part.

So that’s a HUGE relief although they have another year of shoddy/unfinished work to correct still. Once that’s all done I need to press them for a refund of all the fees I paid to them previously for these past two years, as the work done was obviously substandard and still risks to cost me a significant amount in late fees and penalties on any taxes owing. *Sigh*

Oh boy…that’s pretty major. I hope all gets straightened out.

And the circus! I don’t mention publicly what I do although those whom I’ve met in person knows where I work…but it is nowhere near as exciting as the circus!

Wearing Coco Noir edp from a sample. It’s sitting pretty close to my skin, so I’m not sure if this sample is older or if I just can’t pick out some of the notes. Maybe I need to spray on the whole sample?

    SotD = Apres L’ondee

I was feeling calm and quiet today, so Apres L’ondee was right for me.

True confession: I had today off from work and didn’t tell anyone. My college age kids are away, so I slept until 10:30 am, read in bed until 11:30, then went back to sleep until 2:30 pm. I hope I can sleep tonight, LOL, though I should be fine as I’ve been chronically sleep-deprived for a few weeks. :D

Super late check in. Wore Memo Marfa today, sample courtesy of Calypso (thank you!).
There’s a lot of tuberose in this one, bit it settles down after a couple of hours. Very pretty!
