Thursday scent of the day 1/9

Posted by Robin on 9 January 2020 169 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday and National Apricot Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm wearing a little dab of Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus. I'm also traveling today...I will be extra-slow to get to the comments or respond to emails.

Reminder: on 1/10, wear a fragrance by Ormonde Jayne, Olivier Durbano, Odin New York or Olfactive Studio, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter O.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Wearing Ormonde Jayne Tolu. Great for a rainy day like today. I am getting a lot of resins and something pleasantly herbal.

    Robert Piguet Calypso sprayed lavishly.

Thanks to all your wishes to my sister yesterday. My new twin nieces?‍♂️ were born today at 3:45am. Babies and mom are fine and healthy. They will be heading home during the weekend. I will go to the hospital tonight after work to meet them for the first time. Yay! So happy! ?

I hope she has all the support she needs to get through the first few months, which I always found the hardest. I didn’t have twins, but mine are 13.5 months apart so I always felt like I did have twins..

I am jealous of the baby head smell…

She will definitely have help from family and a nanny. Not an easy task though, but I hope she is ok and doesn’t feel too overwhelmed sometimes! ?

I am still doing my Shalimar week and I think I will thunk it by Saturday.
I am been lurking on evil bay for (pre-owned) bottle, and I prefer an older one and not the current version of the EdP, does anyone know what style bottle or box I should look for?

I finished the book Silk that Kanuka recommended to me, if you see this, Grazie mille. Now I want to see the movie….

Angela, this year I will attempt to read my first book in Italian. I just got in the mail this morning. I read it in English and my tutor will help me (or encourage me) to get through it. If it takes a year, I am ok with that.

I think this a beautiful perfume but with nuclear levels of half life. I’ve been wearing it for 8 hours and it is still going strong. AWC–apply with caution, or maybe the acronym should be AB as in Achtung Baby ;-)

I’m wearing Neroli a la Cardamome du Guatemala, from Chopard. It’s pretty gorgeous. I have a sample, though, and I’m thinking I’d be better able to judge this via spray application. It’s one of those long manufacturer’s samples, and I have a hard time getting a good amount of perfume on my wrist without simultaneously dumping too much juice out. What a problem, ey? Let’s hope that’s the pinnacle of my hurdles for the day.

Today I’m smelling great in Olfactive Studio Chambre Noire, and yesterday I was smelling great in OJ Orris Noir. Just realized I wore “noir” scents two days in a row.

Kind of a tough time right now with a lot of stress at work and also at my boyfriend’s job. He has to let someone go today, and it’s been weighing on him heavily all week. I’m glad that it will be done today. In my world, I’m working on a really time consuming project and found out yesterday that my coworker and I might be moved to a newly created department and that would mean my current dept would be broken up and essentially no longer exist. My position isn’t in jeopardy at all, and I am still processing the possible change. There’s just a lot to take in right now, and I’m pretty mentally and emotionally exhausted.

The good news is this week both my boyfriend and I received pay increases! Also, my wonderful manager who soon may no longer be my manager asked me to put together a list of what aspects of my job are my favorite so she can make sure I still get to do what I love even if I’m reporting to someone else.

Sounds like the change is hard, but hoping the raise and your awesomely helpful boss (in what universe is that existing?!) are taking some of the sting out.

LOL. I didn’t sound super-enthusiastic, huh? I looked it up in the Perfume Guide A-Z, and looked up the other Ormonde Jayne fragrances I’d been trying. I’ve been getting a distinct and lasting Play-Doh note from several of them. I think that’s how I perceive Iso E Super.

With the Tolu, I like the balsam and amber notes that Tania Sanchez describes, but I’d rather have other notes be more traditional in style than going to a “modern woody-herbal” (paraphrasing). Especially since I think “woody” in this case means Iso E Super. The Play-Doh note has interfered with my appreciation of other notes in some of the various Ormonde Jayne fragrances I’ve tried this past week.

It was downright COLD here this morning! Not much of a warm up during the day, either. At least the wind is gone, and the weekend forecast is looking positively spring like. ???

But I am NOT fooled! I know you are lurking out there, Old Man Winter! ⛄ My cold weather perfumes are staying put, thank you very much.

SOTD = Oriza L. Legrand Reve d’Ossian EdP, from the sample stash. A hat tip to Lovestosmellgood, who wore this earlier in the week. It’s perfect weather for it right now.

SOTD = Solstice Scents Estate Vetiver

I am doing Indie Week all week this week and I am only wearing scents I love.

Solstice Scents is based in Florida. Our very own She-Ra is a fan of this house, for sure as it relates to the samples, possibly more. Estate Vetiver is primarily a patchouli perfume, with a side helping of vetiver. I love it.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B7G27fhhquB/?igshid=12t5dzwdu2l64

I was distracted yesterday by the gold miner and totally forgot to mention that the woman sitting next to me wore Angel, not so much to coat my tongue but enough to make me concerned about the aroma molecules sticking to my coat. If it did, the cold sent it hiding.

I’ll probably wear an OJ tomorrow but I don’t really consider it indie; however, I do have an alternative and will need to decide ASAP so I can take a pic tonight!

Wearing OJ Ambre Royale tonight from my sample. It’s quite nice, not as amber-y as I thought it would be. Can’t put my finger on it, but it’s reminding me of something else I’ve worn before.

I can wear the rest to bed tonight; if anything remains tomorrow it will be my sotd into my scent-free office.

Not sure I should mention this, since I recall you are on a No Buy, but I have my eye on a couple more of those Soivohle perfume oils: the Iris Underground and the Ginger Piquant. So far, I’ve held out against the urge to buy.

Nope. They would be total blind buys. At $20 US, though, it wouldn’t be that expensive a hit if I didn’t like them.
