Tuesday scent of the day 1/7

Posted by Robin on 7 January 2020 181 Comments

It's the first Tuesday in Hot Tea Month. What fragrance are you wearing?

I went with Olivier Durbano Black Tourmaline. Tea at the moment is a Ceylon from Upton, brewed with a dash of cardamom.

Reminder: on 1/10, wear a fragrance by Ormonde Jayne, Olivier Durbano, Odin New York or Olfactive Studio, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter O.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Eva Solo Nordic Kitchen teapot is about $56 at Nordic Nest.

Hot tea month! I need that. I’m wearing SSS Equestrian today, it’s lovely. It reminds me a little (just a little) of the smell of really good olive oil.

Wearing Marions-Nous by Oriza L.Legrand. Lovely aldehydic floral. I’m on my second sample of this and I may want a full bottle at some point. Besides, full bottles come with tassels.

Tea is a lavender oolong from Palais des Thés. I seem to be coming down with a bug of some sort and I need something soothing.
Hot tea month seems to have been designed for me. Love the teapot in the picture.

They introduced another jasmine perfume last year (cool looking artwork on the bottle) who’s name I have forgotten, I have been watching for it but I believe that it is not available in the US.
I bet you smell fantastic. Good luck with that bug, it’s everywhere it seems (and I am still fighting the remnants 10 days later). Stay warm.

I’m in lashings of Tam Dao EDT this morning – I noticed the other day that my little matching bottles of Tam Dao and Philosykos were draining at very different rates, so I invested in the BIG bottle of TD the other day … and can’t seem to keep my hands off it since. :D

Sipping his chai tea this morning

After dropping the kids off at school today a woman went by me on the sidewalk, then turned around and told me my perfume smelled so beautiful. I am in Shalimar today. My first complement on that perfume.
On that note, I think I will do Shalimar for the rest of the week, and thunk this bottle. Do I need another one?

    House twins, Robin!

Olivier Durbano Jade. There is a lot to like about this scent – it changes from cold green mineral to slightly fruity green and to spicy herbal tea green. However, it also has a loud screechy synthetic note which I find really annoying. I planned to wear Jade again during the immortelle week, but I do not think I want to do it.

OJ Champaca today, which I don’t love as much as I used to but do still enjoy on occasion. It’s so perfumey with all that ISO.

We started watching The Witcher last night, and the first episode was promising. I can’t wait to watch another episode tonight. Some escapist fantasy is just what I need right now to keep the winter doldrums at bay.

I looked for the SL La Fille de Berlin travel-spray set (four quarter-ounce fills plus a sleek black case) in any number of cities over the last month, Berlin included, lucklessly. (You’d think Ogilvy in Montréal would have it, but no. You’d think SOMEONE in Berlin would have it, but again no.)

So I’m wearing the dregs of a sample: I have two more to keep me going for a while. I love angry rose scents and this is a knot of barely contained fury. It’s so great.

I could have bought a full bottle (and the limited-edition 50-mL spray with the engraved front is very nice and not much more expensive than the regular bottle), but I just really, really wanted the travel set. Something about that little black atomizer speaks to me. I have a couple of the one-ounce atomizers he did (Rahät Loukoum and Fourreau Noir) and I wanted the quarter-ounce.

The prices have gotten horrifying. At least they still make many of the export scents in 50-mL bottles, but the 100-mLs, and the Golden Section bottles, are insane.

Oh, this smells really good – DSH Chinchilla.

Now showing: new to me was Humphrey Bogart in Conflict. Over the weekend were a couple of old favorites, Bogart/Bacall in To Have and Have Not (“you know how to whistle, don’t you Steve? You just put your lips together and…blow” – whew!!) and my favorite Tracy/Hepburn, Adam’s Rib.

I could see Lauren Bacall wearing Bandit, definitely, and Katherine Hepburn’s character wearing Schiaparelli Shocking.

I’m in OJ but not 100% sure which scent. It’s a travel size but the name of the scent is missing. Are the names of the scent not labeled on their travel sizes? I think it is Champaca, which I got in a swap. Not a love for me.

It has the OJ base, a little sweet. It’s hard to say. A bit nondescript, at least for me. I know it’s not Ta’if because I own it. I’m pretty sure it is Champaca because it is the only OJ travel size that I have. All the rest I have from this line are sample sizes. It just struck me funny to realize the travel spray doesn’t have the name printed on the bottle.

Champaca has quite a strong rice note. I remember when I got my OJ sample set how enthusiastic I was at first, but after a while they all seemed to blend into one another. I still adore OJ Woman though.

I think the names are in the little box it comes with. Champaca is citrusy, with a strong nutty rice note, like austenfan pointed out.

Ormond Jayne Tolu today from a sample I never quite got around to wearing – this is a relatively quiet but nicely enduring incensey thing – sweeter than most of the incense frag’s I have. I am enjoying it! I will test again, and maybe try to get a decant somewhere. It is not one of those , “Wow, smell this!” perfumes, but I expect it is sneaky and will grow on me with further exposure….

Over exposure is definitely a thing. I was wearing Jour des Hermes one time when I was at a summer fair, and got a mild case of heat stroke. Haven’t wanted to wear that ever again!

I’m wearing Ode, from 1000 Flowers. Half points for a scent name starting with O, I figure. Spicy, herbal, with a distinct vibe of being beautifully crafted. Going on, it reminds me of how I feel when I spritz an Ormonde Jayne scent, which usually triggers an “Oh, wow, I love those top notes! Such an unusual and beautiful mix. I need a bottle of this!” reaction that calms down within an hour or so. We’ll see how this wears over the next few hours.

Hot Tea Month! I will definitely be celebrating, all month long. I’m drinking my usual Love Potion, and seem to be going through it at an alarming rate.

I’m in Zoologist Bat for the first time, sample from Koyel. Wow. This is seriously fruity and intense. I’ve had it on for a half hour or so, and will persevere for another hour, but this might just be a scrubber. I don’t think it is gym-friendly in the least, and it wasn’t the best choice. Fragrance hindsight is 20/20, I guess!

I’m wearing OJ Woman and hope it’s not too strong for when I go see the eye doctor later this afternoon. I suspect new glasses are in my future, but it’s always kind of fun to select new frames (though I do like my current ones and have actually received many compliments on them). OJ Woman is my favourite from her line, and it’s smelling nice today, a bit “darker” somehow than I had remembered–something I enjoy. Last night a friend came by and gifted me with 10 Meyer lemons! So I now have the problem Nancy had a few days ago of what to make with them. For tonight I’ve found a very nice-looking lemon risotto dish, and I plan to make it with some grilled shrimp, yum yum! Here’s a picture of them–these are just gorgeous large perfect yellow glowing globes! https://www.flickr.com/photos/94283635@N00/49342630416/in/dateposted/

Commando for several days now. Horrible chest cold to start out the new year. I’m sure we caught something while running around in LA and I’m crowds those days the kids were here.

Hopped on to say that I wore Making of Cannes Magie du Desert this weekend (ample amount abbed from a sample) for two days. I found it to be sooo good for winter. I couldn’t stop sniffing myself, especially after it dried down.

SOTD = Parfums Dusita Le Sillage Blanc

Herby GREEN leather with a side of ashtray. I know some of you will stay away and you very well should as it is ashtray forward on first spritz. It’s very green and reminiscent of Chanel No.19 EDP.

BTW, Mexico City has a lot of perfume stores. I asked our guide to tell us more about them and he said that most of them sell fake or the smell-alikes, which pretty much killed any interest I had in pursuing the local boutiques!

Was commando for much of the day. I have a number of OJ scents so could do the CP all week I think. Since it was mentioned here by others, I finally did some sprays of Tolu.

I finally left my apartment and went to see Little Women (another reason to be commando). I enjoyed it a great deal and thought it was very well done.

I just found out that a couple of my friends are under “quarantine” for the next 5 days, due to the flu. They’re both considered highly contagious at this point. ?? So they have told everyone to stay away for a little bit.
