Monday, Three Kings Day, Rowan Atkinson's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Prada L’Eau Ambrée.
Reminder: on 1/10, wear a fragrance by Ormonde Jayne, Olivier Durbano, Odin New York or Olfactive Studio, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter O.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is from the Prada 2020 Resort campaign.
I’m starting the week with Tom Ford Grey Vetiver. Yum.
I almost did vetiver today! (Although that’s probably true most days, ha.)
I’m wearing Silver Iris today, and my jumper is wafting Lancôme’s Cuir, odd mix, but seems to work.
Robin, are u doing a ‘best of’ for last year?
Mayfly, I’m not, and I didn’t do one last year either. I just don’t try enough new perfumes anymore to say anything intelligent about what was best.
I understand, I don’t think I’ve smelt anything new for a couple years, I’ve only just smelt Diptyques Fleur de Peaux.
Glad I’m not alone! I just have had my mind on other things the last couple years. Anyway, not sure I’ll ever again try to smell as many fragrances as I used to, there are just too many and it’s sort of a slog to try to keep up.
Wearing Annick Goutal’s Ambre Fétiche. I have only 2 O’s for this week, so they will be worn at some point.
Happy birthday to Rowan Atkinson, one of my favourite comedians.
He is such a joy
I’m wearing Byredo’s 1996…perfect for a cold day.
You smell great littlecooling!
So do you
Shalimar EdT for what it was a light snowy early morning. Comfy and pretty!
mmmm, so beautiful!
Thank you! ?
Love the edt!
we are twins
Hi twin! We smell wonderful!
Man. That image up top looks like a pop-up memorial for (fashion?) victims…I was wondering who got killed. Such is the zeitgeist
That was my thought exactly!
same here, glad it’s just flowers and pretty pictures.
Yeah, me too. I specifically looked because I struggled to think it was a photo of a bunch of actual victims.
That’s what I thought, too.
I should add that I don’t think they released this shot as a still. You can see the campaign here:
That was my first impression of the photo, too.
I got up extra early today to do a load of laundry while two people in the house are at a doctor’s appointment. The other person up and decided to do something with the water tank. Can’t do laundry, can’t flush the toilet, can’t take a shower. My dad said it should take a half an hour and that was an hour and a half ago. Wearing the remnants of Amouage Memoir but want to switch to either Shalimar or Theorema. Good news is that my candle order is on it’s way and arriving today.
I hope you have your water back soon!
Finally got the water tank up and running. Got my shower in and just started a load of laundry. My work clothes were incredibly nasty. I am wearing vintage Shalimar extrait right now.
I’m wearing Breath of God again, despite feeling MUCH better, because in wearing it while I was sick last week I rediscovered how much I love it! It is so unique and grounding. Wishing everyone a healthy rest of the year.
Glad you’re feeling better Regina!
Wearing a wee bit of Shalimar EDP. Shalimar isn’t really my thing, but I like to revisit it once and a while. I thought the pic was a memorial at first; I thought I’d missed some news…
I used a little Shalimar dusting powder of the shower
What is it that you don’t like about the perfume, I am always curious
It’s a whole lotta vanilla for me. I like vanilla better in a supporting role. I like to give it a sniff now and then, but I’d not want to wear it as a regular thing.
I have been in an animalic mood lately so I wish it had more civet! HA!
Now you are inspiring me to dig out my Shalimar..
another mmmmm, so beautiful!
You’re inspiring me – I may just copy you if I don’t do an “O” scent. But Shalimar is great on cold days!
Sampling Brutus from Orto Parisi
For the “O” community project I am in Oriza L Legrand Relique D’Amour
Sipping chai, and this may disgust some of you, but I am eating dal and rice for breakfast..not really a typical way to start the day but I will be full all morning.
I think I may switch to Shalimar, I like this one that I am wearing but not in the mood for herbal chypre. Shalimar fits my mood and (my meal) this morning…
ooooh, do it!
I already had the powder on from earlier..so I am officially wafting in Shalimar…
Dal and rice are good at any time of the day.
Agreed. I just felt so cold this morning and wanted something hot and fast, and had some left over in the fridge. with the chai tea, and Shalimar, I am transported somewhere else this morning..
I eat rice for breakfast sometimes. I wouldn’t be up for eating something spicy in the morning, but legumes and rice sound like a reasonable meal to me.
Glad you approve
LOL. That was supposed to be more along the lines of reassuring you that your breakfast didn’t sound disgusting, but others were more direct that way. You wanted something hot and filling, and that’s what you got.
In Costa Rica ‘gallo pinto’ (rice and beans) is standard breakfast fare. I loved it so much I would ask for it for lunch, and get weird looks…
There is a recipe for a Egyptian dish I have, with beans and tahini, and interesting when I read the description it said it was a common breakfast food…
I don’t see a problem with dal and rice for breakfast at all. It sounds healthy and tasty.
Hello fragrant folk!
SOTD is ELDO Fils de Dieu for a crisp morning out in the desert in the middle of nowhere. We’re pulled off some unsaved road, and strategically parked to catch the views.
Beautiful, clear night, dead quiet except for the occasional bray of a wild burro or yip of a coyote.
In the 60’s during the day this time of year. I can NOT even IMAGINE how hellish it is at noon in July! Yikes! ?
I’m kind of hankering for some LDDM, and wishing I had a little travel spray to go with my surroundings.
We’re on our return route to civilization for work on Wednesday. I love it here more than I ever could have imagined. That being said, I could NEVER be here in spring, summer, or fall. But right now, it’s perfect for vanning and rv’ing. I can see why so many Canadians come down for the winter. Free camping, beautiful views, and peace and quiet. Just beautiful!
Happy Monday to all! ?
LDDM would be perfect. Hard to go back to civilization I’m sure…
Thanks Deva! I love hearing about your adventures and seeing where you are now.
Actually I think a lot of the desert is pretty nice in the summer, but I suppose I’m thinking more of New Mexico than Arizona. In Tucson though you can get up to the mountains quite quickly and easily and it’s beautiful. So is Flagstaff. Then in N.M., many areas are more temperate, notably Santa Fe, and pleasant in summer. Also it cools off at night. The low humidity really does make a difference (I’m thinking about how much nicer it is than our Gulf Coast horrible heat + humidity. Probably much like Florida’s in summer.)
Agree. I drove into Tucson on the hottest day in Tucson history (this was some years ago now!! that record has surely been broken several times over) and I was shocked at how much more bearable it was than an August day in DC. Humidity is everything!
Echoing both Calypso and Robin about lack of humidity. I am quite happy wearing jeans in the middle of Denver’s hot, dry summers. It’s another story here on the humid East Coast.
Beauriful views, you can see forever!
I can’t wait to go back there this Year. . New Mexico too!
Your sunset shots are spectacular!
Hello everyone! Hope you had a nice weekends. I am wearing ylang 49 from a sample, and I really do enjoy it. I used to think it was a more expensive aromatics elixir, but Ylang has a lush floral heart that I haven’t smelled in AE for a long time. Still not sure I need both, but I do enjoy wearing it!
I love Ylang 49! Probably my favorite LL. I can see the AE connection woth pre-reform AE (from distant memory). The current version doesn’t smell the same to me.
The only noticeable difference between the current and old, is that the current version doesn’t try to kill me. Lol!
Aw that’s a nice change of pace.
I was immediately drawn to Patchouli. I got a bit annoyed that Ylang smelled so close to AE but wearing it properly I note some differences.
I agree that those two share a lot in feel (if smell can have a feel?). I’d add Ubar to that list as well.
SotD = l’air du desert marocain
Just typing that name makes me feel fragrant.
Hope everyone has a marvelous Monday!
I still have to smell that one! Have a great Monday
If you can wait until the freebiemeet, I can make you a decant if you like
sbneuner at twc . com
My 2-weeks-long Christmas/New Year break ends today.
Back to work tomorrow. Not looking forward to it but it just has to happen.
SotD is Atelier Cologne Encens Jinhae.
You smell great in L’Eau Ambree, Robin.
Sorry you have to go back to work lucasai! At least you didn’t have to go back on a Monday.
It’s really sunny here, so I am wearing Dolce Vita to match.
How do you like that one. I tried it once and was really impressed. But I don’t find many people talking about DV. Do they still make it?
They do still make it. I have a mini from about 5 years ago, haven’t smelled a current version. I think it’s just beautiful though, and often think about getting the new version.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bottle of Dolce Vita hanging out on a department store perfume counter.
It’s been decades since I’ve seen it in a department store, but it’s available on some of their website’s and at discounters.
I’m in a wee bit of CdG Luxe Champaca from a forgotten decant. Quite nice in cold weather. I find it a bit overwhelming in warmer weather.
Matches the bits of mustard yellow in my sweater.
And I’m wearing the new tall boots I finally got. I’ve had a pair of Merrell tall boots for years and they are the most comfortable ever, but they aren’t that warm and are no longer waterproof, so I finally caved and replaced them with some Clarks which are worlds warmer, waterproof, and pretty comfortable so far!
Always happy when I don’t have to send something back.
The sun is finally peeking through today ?
Cool boots! Warm, waterproof, comfy, and cute is hard to find… in a boot?
Thanks! And I got them discounted! I have a hard time finding tall boots so I’m happy and good to go for the next few years, I hope.
Cute boots! I really like CdG Luxe. It’s a great floral.
Thank you! It is a nice floral, but dosing is key for me. It’s given me a headache before. Wss nice today though!
My sample is only a dabber and I’ve had it for a few years. Still, it is pretty.
One can never have enough boots (and perfume)
I certainly can’t quite say I don’t have enough of either ?
Nice boots! Just like perfumes, I don’t need any more boots but I ordered what I thought were booties from Duluth but ended with long boots which I decided to keep anyway.
One needs as good pair of tall boots! Or 2 ? These actually come in ankle length, too, and they look wiite nice. Almost went with those… I hope you enjoy yours!
They are handsome and really look like riding boots.
Commando so far, but I’ll be going to visit friends, and will probably be able to finally try the fragrances in the Ormonde Jayne discovery set. Well, the ones left after swapping a couple and giving at least one away…
Did the drive up to the far north of the county to visit A.J. and B. I got to try Ormonde Jayne Frangipani, a couple of little sprays from the sample. Pretty, not overpowering at that amount, but persistent in a good way. I’m just not used to a fragrance that sticks around.
B. likes citrus and very light “non-perfume-y” fragrances. I had her try the 4711 Pink Pepper & Grapefruit, and she fell in love. I taught her how to order perfume on line, and she went right off that cliff. (lol) Well, that particular fragrance is a lot cheaper than department store perfumes, anyway. B. is familiar with department store prices.
A.J. and I had had fun trying Demeter Chocolate Chip Cookie spray around this time last year. This year I had her sniff the holiday ones I’d been wearing this November and December: Christmas Tree, Mulled Cider, Gingerbread, etc. A.J. also liked the Condensed Milk and Creme Brulee. B. liked the Fresh Ginger.
I’d ended up duplicating some of the 1 ml samples I had when I got the big bunch of 5 ml samples. I passed along the 1 ml samples of lilac, lily-of-the-valley and gingerbread to A.J.
B. liked the Fresh Hesperides Grapefruit, and I told her that Rayleighblue had gotten me into trying many grapefruit scents. Since I’d gotten a regular-sized bottle of that, I gave B. the travel-sized one I’d gotten.
It’s a lot more fun for me when I’m with people who like to sniff various fragrances. No yelling, just joy. Although there was a bit of non-verbal protest from Nellie the goldendoodle, after B. had sprayed the Pink Pepper & Grapefruit cologne on her arms, her sleeves, and the edge of the tablecloth. Nellie’s dog bed is very near there. Nellie groaned a few times, and moved around in her bed, and then went to lie at the other end of the dining room, with her nose near the door that opens to the outside.
We weren’t impressed, because we all knew how dogs think that the scent of carrion is just delightful. But if Nellie could talk, I’m sure she would have had things to say about human tastes in fragrances. LOL
Sounds like a fun testing day! I will definitely be in Frangipani this week.
SOTM is Eau Premiere but I think that I will add a spritz of Bengale Rouge later on.
I bet that’s a good combo!
It layered really well.
I’ll wear my “O”s later this week. SOTD is Dior Bois d’Argent for my first day back to work since Dec 24. Still got this plague-y cold tho, and why is it always freezing in the office year round?? Need to bundle up inside….!
Tea and honey time!
House/sub-house twin in Cuir Cannage today.
I went with Olympic Orchids Carosello for an easy Monday perfume. It’s based around Moscato wine and is lighter than most OO perfumes. Wearing my pineapple printed white button up, parakeet beaded earrings, and a bright orangey red lip to try and make the day more fun.
I love your outfit of the day, your lipstick and I haven’t smelled that perfume but I am sure you smell great
Second day back at work after a two week holiday – I was not cheerful about going back yesterday, but once I got in the door and caught up with colleagues it didn’t seem quite so bad. I wore a hefty spray of Mito EdP, and that was comforting.
I’ve decided on Tobacco Vanille for today, I’m wearing a brown dress and it seems like the perfect match.
Olivier Durbano Citrine. A light resinous woody scent. Fleeting.
I need to dig out the Olivier Durbanos so I can remember Citrine!
I plan to wear that this week too!
Future twins, kind of.
I’m wearing a spritz of Desarmant on this rainy, blustery day.
Still working through the sample you sent me of that one. Wore it over the holidays!
I’m excited to see that I could do a whole week on topic – but all the Ormonde Jayne/Olfactive I have are warmer weather scents to my nose, and it’s kind of cold (for California) today…Happy Monday to all, like many I’m getting back into the swing of things after break.
The holidays really do feel over today!
I’m in Ormonde Jayne Tolu for the cp. I could do a week and then some from this line because I still have many left from the sampler set I bought a year or so ago. I like this one a lot and would be happy to have a travel spray.
Today is my Saturday and the sun is shining.?I have many loads of laundry to catch up on today. Apparently the washer and dryer weren’t working this weekend.?
At least you smell good while doing laundry
Ha! True, thanks! ?
I am going to wear it later this week. It is so rich and good for winter.
I did 3 loads (darks, lighter darks, light) yesterday but dried them in 5 batches (same as the loads but I separated out the towels which would normally be their own wash load and the ones that are line dry which I start off drying in low heat for 20 minutes to lighten the load on the clothesline).
Wearing OJ Vanilla d’Iris from a decant. I want to love this, but something about it is bothering me. Too linear? The vanilla is too plastic-y?
I have a decant and also find it a bit boring
Not for me either … vanilla and Iris were not mixed right (as if I know how to mix) but wearing it feels like wearing 2 perfumes that clashed
I have a phone interview later today so I’m working from home, which means that I gloriously have nobody to please with my perfumes but myself, so it’s a heavy sample day!
At the moment I’m in Bottega Profumiera Sharanda, which I believe I will be removing very soon, as it smells mostly of salt and laundry, and Blackbird Anemone, about which I have not yet made up my mind
Good luck with the interview!
Hope your phone interview went well!
Wow. I seem to be quite short on “O” frags. I may have to resort to a perfume with orris on Friday
In Le Cri this morning. I LOVE this perfume.
Feeling a bit unsure and skeptical, but having reached a truly unhealthy weight and having completely forgotten the layout of the gym I am ostensibly a member of, I am embarking on a health plan. So it is ‘hello Noom’ for me. I am on day 2. (If you’ve tried Noom and it didn’t work for you or you didn’t like it–please do NOT share that with me. )
During my walk this morning I listened to David Tennant’s podcast–his interview with Olivia Colman (thank you Kanuka for suggesting it!)–and now I’d really like to have them both over for lunch today.
I listened to that podcast today as well ☺️, it cheered me up while waiting on a cold and windy tram station.
I don’t know what Noom is, but I wish you success!
It is an overpriced app for tracking meals and exercise (for the first I have plenty of data, for the second–working on it!) I am hoping the dosh I am shelling out for it will chasten me into compliance!
I listened too, and started the one with Jodie Whittaker.
I likewise have to google Noom!
I’ve downloaded Tina Fey and Samatha Bee for next time… love that Tennant has interviewed so many women. I am guessing most of his subjects are people with whom he already has personal relationships.
Today I’m wearing Tom Ford’s Vert de Bois.
Cristalle Eau Verte for a walk in the winter sun. Now some Calligraphy Saffron. Homemade pizza for dinner.
Sunny here in the afternoon and I managed a walk as well! No homemade pizza though.
SotD is Bottega veneta.
Getting out of bed for work (afrer 1,5 week of vacation) this morning was not easy. ?
Late check-in! But I made it….
The Perfume Grinch is having major allergy problems, and the least little scent is throwing him into sneezy fits. Even his own peppermint chewing gum threw him in a tizzy! LOL So I’m being a nice coworker and will be scentless for the next few days (at least at work!) I did spray a tiny bit of Snowy Morning mist from Bath and Body Works, but it faded out before I even got to the office…..
I have quite a few new perfumes to try and talk about soon…..it’s just finding time (and non-sneezy folks) to wear them around!
Oohh… what new perfumes?
I should say, not new to the market….but new to me! I’ve had some for a few weeks and haven’t slowed down enough to try ’em!
I’ve got Elie Saab Girl of Now, La Perla Mia la Perla, and Britney Spears Midnight Fantasy just to name 3 of ’em…..LOL
Confession: Something happened to me at Bath and Body Works in December, and I bought more products than I could ever possibly use up before they go off. Sending some to my college girl, gave some to my mom and sis-in-law, and still have waaaaaay too much. I’m at saturation point, perfume wise, for quite a while!
Interested on your thoughts on La Perla, when you get around to it.
His peppermint chewing gum? ?. Wow! That’s serious! ??
LOL No kidding….I’ve worked with him for almost 20 years, and he sneezes every single time he gets a mint or a piece of peppermint gum! He’s a mess…..
I’m finally taking Violet Ida for a spin. My first reaction was oh no! It has a stridently sharp powdery note that I think must be due to a specific chemical that always makes me recoil. I wonder what it is? It makes me think of poor hygiene insufficiently masked by old, rancid cosmetics. Thankfully that faded away pretty quickly and now the iris is coming forward, so I won’t pass judgment on it as a whole quite yet.
Oy vey – rancid cosmetics!
We are at the stage where the sniffer may be broken, but I’m wearing Vanille d’Iris anyway, Over a light Rose-scented body lotion. I’m getting just enough to make me smile.
You’re on the mend!
I’m wearing Royal Oud by Creed. Not really a fan of Creed in general, but I love this one.
Frederic Malle “Noir Epices” for the first day back at work after an incredible 3 weeks of holiday. Since we spent so much time in exile during 2019, that was 3 weeks just hanging out at home, and I loved it. :^D
enjoying time at home is the best time.
plus you’re in a beautiful perfume. i had it but unfortunately the drydown doesn’t work with my skin chemistry and turned into insufferable spices… no idea why i didnt notice it in the store.
i gave it away to someone on whom it smelled amazing though!
More gloomy winter weather today. At least it isn’t really cold. Just kind of blah.
SOTD = Soivohle Vintage Chypre absolute oil parfum. If you are a fan of Silences, there’s a good chance that you would like this, too. And Liz Zorn does ship the perfume oils internationally. I don’t know what her shipping charges are like, though.
I had to brush off an inch of snow from my car this morning!
No snow here. But Mr. Jalapeno said that he had about the same amount you did up at his work.
..site bookmarked; thanks Jalapeno! ? I’m supposed to be on a ‘no-buy’.
This house seems to get mentioned quite a bit here. Have you tried any others?
Um, yeah… I have quite a few samples and travel-sized bottles of Soivohle scents in my collection. On the perfume oils, though, I have only tried 3 so far: Incense & Myrrh, Vintage Chypre, and Studio Red Roses, which is d/c’ed. I did get a sample of the White Gardenia as a freebie with my most recent order there.
I’d need a separate reply to list all the alcohol-based perfumes I have from Soivohle. ?
Self-posting to mention that I don’t know what the international shipping charges are for Soivohle. I know rather well what the US shipping charges are. ?
Sunny and bright today, but I’m a wreck from insomnia and nerves. Wearing one spritz of Maria Candida Gentile Cinabre. Heavy duty opoponax.
Oh no! Hope you get some sleep tonight!
I hope you sleep well tonight. It stinks having anxiety on a good weather day.
Bad sleep or no sleep sucks.
Hope both are better tonight!
Many thanks, I certainly hope for a better night!
SOTD = Jorum Studio Trimerous
I don’t consider this a new year’s resolution but an effort to highlight indie perfumes in my collection (from FB to samples): during the first full week of each month, I will try to wear indie perfumes at least 5 out of 7 days. There. I said it.
It was my first day back at work after a two week vacation. I did not fully check out during the two weeks because I remembered my password ?. Onward!
Looking forward to learning about some new to me indie houses. I’m really lacking in that part of perfumery knowledge.
Oh good. I am also doing a poll each day (assuming I have a little bit of time to prepare IG stories) to ask who loves it and who has not yet tried it.
Forgetting your password would have made this Monday even Monday-er. I’m glad that didn’t happen!
Ha! Very true!
That’s a good resolution, I look forward to new discoveries.
L’Occitaine Eau des Baux today. Tonight trying a bit of DSH Biwa, a sample that arrived this afternoon. First impression is that it’s really nice, I think I’ll give it a full wear tomorrow.
You smell wonderful. I am curious about Biwa!
Wearing SJP Lovely from my rollerball tonight although I can barely smell it due to my cold and sniffles. I should have a few OJ samples in my stash for the CP this week; hopefully I will be able to smell those.
We had another big snowstorm today. So far we have about 6 inches on the patio table, but my co-worker friend (who lives part way up a nearby mountain) has about 4 feet of snow piled up on parts of her lawn after shovelling. She can’t even use the snowblower because the snow is so wet! Ugh, is it spring yet?
I hope that you are over your cold very soon! ?
Thank you! Me too.
Well boo to the cold and the snow! Spring is coming, I promise!
I will take your word for it! I noticed that the garden center I go by every day is opening up February 28th.
