Monday scent of the day 1/6

Posted by Robin on 6 January 2020 170 Comments

Monday, Three Kings Day, Rowan Atkinson's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Prada L’Eau Ambrée.

Reminder: on 1/10, wear a fragrance by Ormonde Jayne, Olivier Durbano, Odin New York or Olfactive Studio, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter O.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m wearing Silver Iris today, and my jumper is wafting Lancôme’s Cuir, odd mix, but seems to work.
Robin, are u doing a ‘best of’ for last year?

Mayfly, I’m not, and I didn’t do one last year either. I just don’t try enough new perfumes anymore to say anything intelligent about what was best.

I understand, I don’t think I’ve smelt anything new for a couple years, I’ve only just smelt Diptyques Fleur de Peaux.

Glad I’m not alone! I just have had my mind on other things the last couple years. Anyway, not sure I’ll ever again try to smell as many fragrances as I used to, there are just too many and it’s sort of a slog to try to keep up.

Wearing Annick Goutal’s Ambre Fétiche. I have only 2 O’s for this week, so they will be worn at some point.

Happy birthday to Rowan Atkinson, one of my favourite comedians.

I got up extra early today to do a load of laundry while two people in the house are at a doctor’s appointment. The other person up and decided to do something with the water tank. Can’t do laundry, can’t flush the toilet, can’t take a shower. My dad said it should take a half an hour and that was an hour and a half ago. Wearing the remnants of Amouage Memoir but want to switch to either Shalimar or Theorema. Good news is that my candle order is on it’s way and arriving today.

    Hello fragrant folk!

SOTD is ELDO Fils de Dieu for a crisp morning out in the desert in the middle of nowhere. We’re pulled off some unsaved road, and strategically parked to catch the views.

Beautiful, clear night, dead quiet except for the occasional bray of a wild burro or yip of a coyote.

In the 60’s during the day this time of year. I can NOT even IMAGINE how hellish it is at noon in July! Yikes! ?

I’m kind of hankering for some LDDM, and wishing I had a little travel spray to go with my surroundings.

We’re on our return route to civilization for work on Wednesday. I love it here more than I ever could have imagined. That being said, I could NEVER be here in spring, summer, or fall. But right now, it’s perfect for vanning and rv’ing. I can see why so many Canadians come down for the winter. Free camping, beautiful views, and peace and quiet. Just beautiful!

    Happy Monday to all! ?

Actually I think a lot of the desert is pretty nice in the summer, but I suppose I’m thinking more of New Mexico than Arizona. In Tucson though you can get up to the mountains quite quickly and easily and it’s beautiful. So is Flagstaff. Then in N.M., many areas are more temperate, notably Santa Fe, and pleasant in summer. Also it cools off at night. The low humidity really does make a difference (I’m thinking about how much nicer it is than our Gulf Coast horrible heat + humidity. Probably much like Florida’s in summer.)

Agree. I drove into Tucson on the hottest day in Tucson history (this was some years ago now!! that record has surely been broken several times over) and I was shocked at how much more bearable it was than an August day in DC. Humidity is everything!

Echoing both Calypso and Robin about lack of humidity. I am quite happy wearing jeans in the middle of Denver’s hot, dry summers. It’s another story here on the humid East Coast.

Hello everyone! Hope you had a nice weekends. I am wearing ylang 49 from a sample, and I really do enjoy it. I used to think it was a more expensive aromatics elixir, but Ylang has a lush floral heart that I haven’t smelled in AE for a long time. Still not sure I need both, but I do enjoy wearing it!

I’m in a wee bit of CdG Luxe Champaca from a forgotten decant. Quite nice in cold weather. I find it a bit overwhelming in warmer weather.
Matches the bits of mustard yellow in my sweater.
And I’m wearing the new tall boots I finally got. I’ve had a pair of Merrell tall boots for years and they are the most comfortable ever, but they aren’t that warm and are no longer waterproof, so I finally caved and replaced them with some Clarks which are worlds warmer, waterproof, and pretty comfortable so far!

Did the drive up to the far north of the county to visit A.J. and B. I got to try Ormonde Jayne Frangipani, a couple of little sprays from the sample. Pretty, not overpowering at that amount, but persistent in a good way. I’m just not used to a fragrance that sticks around.

      B. likes citrus and very light “non-perfume-y” fragrances. I had her try the 4711 Pink Pepper & Grapefruit, and she fell in love. I taught her how to order perfume on line, and she went right off that cliff. (lol) Well, that particular fragrance is a lot cheaper than department store perfumes, anyway. B. is familiar with department store prices.

A.J. and I had had fun trying Demeter Chocolate Chip Cookie spray around this time last year. This year I had her sniff the holiday ones I’d been wearing this November and December: Christmas Tree, Mulled Cider, Gingerbread, etc. A.J. also liked the Condensed Milk and Creme Brulee. B. liked the Fresh Ginger.

I’d ended up duplicating some of the 1 ml samples I had when I got the big bunch of 5 ml samples. I passed along the 1 ml samples of lilac, lily-of-the-valley and gingerbread to A.J.

      B. liked the Fresh Hesperides Grapefruit, and I told her that Rayleighblue had gotten me into trying many grapefruit scents. Since I’d gotten a regular-sized bottle of that, I gave B. the travel-sized one I’d gotten.

It’s a lot more fun for me when I’m with people who like to sniff various fragrances. 🙂 No yelling, just joy. Although there was a bit of non-verbal protest from Nellie the goldendoodle, after B. had sprayed the Pink Pepper & Grapefruit cologne on her arms, her sleeves, and the edge of the tablecloth. Nellie’s dog bed is very near there. Nellie groaned a few times, and moved around in her bed, and then went to lie at the other end of the dining room, with her nose near the door that opens to the outside.

We weren’t impressed, because we all knew how dogs think that the scent of carrion is just delightful. But if Nellie could talk, I’m sure she would have had things to say about human tastes in fragrances. LOL

I went with Olympic Orchids Carosello for an easy Monday perfume. It’s based around Moscato wine and is lighter than most OO perfumes. Wearing my pineapple printed white button up, parakeet beaded earrings, and a bright orangey red lip to try and make the day more fun.

Second day back at work after a two week holiday – I was not cheerful about going back yesterday, but once I got in the door and caught up with colleagues it didn’t seem quite so bad. I wore a hefty spray of Mito EdP, and that was comforting.
I’ve decided on Tobacco Vanille for today, I’m wearing a brown dress and it seems like the perfect match.

I did 3 loads (darks, lighter darks, light) yesterday but dried them in 5 batches (same as the loads but I separated out the towels which would normally be their own wash load and the ones that are line dry which I start off drying in low heat for 20 minutes to lighten the load on the clothesline).

Wow. I seem to be quite short on “O” frags. I may have to resort to a perfume with orris on Friday 😉

In Le Cri this morning. I LOVE this perfume.

Feeling a bit unsure and skeptical, but having reached a truly unhealthy weight and having completely forgotten the layout of the gym I am ostensibly a member of, I am embarking on a health plan. So it is ‘hello Noom’ for me. I am on day 2. (If you’ve tried Noom and it didn’t work for you or you didn’t like it–please do NOT share that with me. )

During my walk this morning I listened to David Tennant’s podcast–his interview with Olivia Colman (thank you Kanuka for suggesting it!)–and now I’d really like to have them both over for lunch today.

    Late check-in! But I made it…. 🙂

The Perfume Grinch is having major allergy problems, and the least little scent is throwing him into sneezy fits. Even his own peppermint chewing gum threw him in a tizzy! LOL So I’m being a nice coworker and will be scentless for the next few days (at least at work!) I did spray a tiny bit of Snowy Morning mist from Bath and Body Works, but it faded out before I even got to the office…..

I have quite a few new perfumes to try and talk about soon…..it’s just finding time (and non-sneezy folks) to wear them around! 🙂

I’ve got Elie Saab Girl of Now, La Perla Mia la Perla, and Britney Spears Midnight Fantasy just to name 3 of ’em…..LOL

Confession: Something happened to me at Bath and Body Works in December, and I bought more products than I could ever possibly use up before they go off. Sending some to my college girl, gave some to my mom and sis-in-law, and still have waaaaaay too much. I’m at saturation point, perfume wise, for quite a while! 🙂

I’m finally taking Violet Ida for a spin. My first reaction was oh no! It has a stridently sharp powdery note that I think must be due to a specific chemical that always makes me recoil. I wonder what it is? It makes me think of poor hygiene insufficiently masked by old, rancid cosmetics. Thankfully that faded away pretty quickly and now the iris is coming forward, so I won’t pass judgment on it as a whole quite yet.

Wearing SJP Lovely from my rollerball tonight although I can barely smell it due to my cold and sniffles. I should have a few OJ samples in my stash for the CP this week; hopefully I will be able to smell those.

We had another big snowstorm today. So far we have about 6 inches on the patio table, but my co-worker friend (who lives part way up a nearby mountain) has about 4 feet of snow piled up on parts of her lawn after shovelling. She can’t even use the snowblower because the snow is so wet! Ugh, is it spring yet?
