Happy De-stress Friday! Our community project for today: as we approach the holidays, wear something that keeps you tranquil and relaxed.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
Since this project is a repeat from 2014, I went back to see what people wore then, and decided to copy BobH's pick, Dzongkha by L’Artisan.
Reminder: on 12/27 we're doing best of 2019...wear one of your favorite fragrance releases of 2019.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

It’s always less stress to wear an old favorite that never disappoints so I’m in Sacrebleu, the perfect winter scent
You smell beautiful and very restful!
Good point!
One of my favourite winter perfumes, too, you smell beautiful!
I am choosing 31 RC and keeping up with my Chanel week..
31 RC makes me act more elegant, more poised, more relaxed, and its impossible to be in a bad mood and wafting in 31RC.
I finished a book Engima Variations by Aciman, and I was very frustrated by his selfish protagonist, but I enjoyed his writing style and meeting him at the 92nd YMCA. I am now staring Demi Moore’s biography…and trying, unsuccessfully, to read one small article in Italian from the newspaper online…
Ciao amici
You smell elegant!
Why thank you
I picture you as always elegant no matter what perfume you’re wearing ltsg.?
Awwww!
I try to at least make an effort
Having two small critics is always helpful ..”Mom! Put on a dress like me! Wear fancy shoes! ..”
31 RC–oh, so elegant.
Interesting how a perfume influences how we act. The power of scent.
I completely agree with thegoddessrena, and for that reason am in 24, Faubourg. Have a lovely Friday, everyone. 🙂
Perfect.
Beautiful!
??
I’m wearing Voyage d’Hermes for a flight to New Jersey. Safe journey to all who travel and Merry Christmas to those who celebrate!
Have a good flight Regina!
Welcome to New Jersey–it’s cold here, but sunny, and you smell good.
Happy Holidays
Have a safe and fun trip!
Waving hello!
Aedes de Venustas Copal Azur (big thanks to Lillyjo). Gorgeous incense to keep me relaxed and focused on another awful, freezing day!
Happy Friday, everyone!
Stay warm! We are having warm-ish temps here, predicted close to 50 on Sunday which is darn right balmy for this time of the year.?
Thank you! It is supposed to be 50 on Sunday here also. Waiting anxiously for it! ??
Me too! Plus the days start getting longer this weekend, which means summer is just around the corner!???
Yay!!!!?
I see I’ve taught you well, young Jedi ?????
Happy Friday! Hope it goes by fast.
Thank you, Lillyjo! Hope your Friday also goes fine and fast and you can finally have some well deserved sleep.
You smell wonderful, love that one.
Thank you! ?
I was able to smell copal tears at a Renaissance faire one year. They were potent!
I’m wearing L`Air du Desert Marocain. I don’t know if it qualifies as de-stressful. I came so close to wearing Dzongkha.
I thought about that one for today, you smell great!
An excellent choice. I will follow you.
I adore LLDM, such a beautiful scent. When I ordered from Andy Tauer last holiday season, he included a spritz of LLDM on a card, my apartment smelled delicious for weeks.
I ordered Femme de Henry Jacques from Harrods and already it’s hung up in customs, regretting I didn’t order from Andy this year.
I ordered Au Coeur du Désert and Les Années 25 BIS, both of which are making me very happy. I hope your Femme arrives soon!
cazaubon, I’ve been wondering about the Au Coeur de Désert – do you like it better than LADDM?
They are different, ACDD seems drier and less resinous, but I love them both.
I find Andy’s scents very calming. Nice choice!
Yaaaay friday ?
I am feeling relaxed wearing Monocle scent One: Hinoki, by Comme des garçons
And that is what I wore in 2014!
Love that one.
Feeling utterly de-stressed in Caron L’Impacte de Pour un Homme and vintage Pour un Homme eau de toilette.
Love Pour Un Gimme!!! Going to have to spray that on Mr Marzipan tonight ?
I might actually write Pour un Gimme on one of my Pour un Homme bottles. It reminds me of the Abba song.
Love this!!!
I feel more relaxed just reading the words Pour un Homme, it’s a great choice for the CP.
2nd that.
I’m in Dune today, not sure if this works for the cp or not??
My daughter and I are heading out to get our nails done this morning. Then I’m sure we’ll hit Sephora and maybe Ulta, then lunch. A real ladies day. I have all my Christmas shopping done, so hopefully the crowds won’t stress me out too much.
Your day sounds with your daughter sounds lovely, and Dune is beautiful. Have fun 🙂
Thanks!
Enjoy the real ladies day! Sounds great!
Ladies days are my favorite!?Thanks!
What a fun day. Crowds bother me less when I don’t have an agenda. You can relax and observe… and a new lipstick always uplifts….??
Same for me. When I actually need a last minute gift I get overwhelmed by the frenzied shoppers and my brain shuts down.
Me too. I get totally frazzled by crowds at this time of year. I hit the parks in town (Sutro Park and Golden Gate Park), those seem to calm me down.
Have a great day! Dune totally works! I might copy you for work tonight.
Thanks! I hope you do, you will be smelling great!?
Dune gets you points in my book
It is a good one!?
If Dune makes you feel calm and centered, it fits!
What a great day!
Wrappings!!!!
Body lotion and fragrance!!!
Love it.
Christmas present from a dear friend.
You smell glorious, if you didn’t already know it! 🙂
And it’s extra special because it came from a beautiful person who I am blessed to call a friend. ???
Wrapped in a hug from a friend, the best feeling. 🙂
Exactly ???
An excellent two-fer today!
???
Ooh, Wrappings! I need to dig mine out! Thanks for the reminder!
I’m also emulating thegoddessrena in Memoirs of a Trespasser today, I was craving it. Now showing: I’ve already watched It Happened on 5th Avenue which is very charming. In keeping with that theme I’ve started an old favorite, The Shop Around the Corner. Happy Friday everyone!
Those both sound fun, thanks for the movie recs. And you smell wonderful!
Shop Around the Corner is one of my husband’s favorites. The other sounds familiar…will check it out. I’m sure I’ve seen it.
Excellent movie selection….so romantic.
I forgot we had someone coming over today to fix our internet. He fixed part of the problem but the router is the second part of the problem. So we are getting a new router. Wearing vintage Miss Dior today. Just the tiniest little bit due to work.
I found out from our provider that routers do need to be upgraded now and then. We had problems too sometime back, and a new router fixed it.
Shhhh, I still have the original Apple Airporter. Earlier this year at Best Buy, I innocently asked if there’s a new model and the guy said it had been discontinued years ago ?
Good morning, Happy FriYAY, and happy “only 5 days left until Christmas”. This gal is exhausted and ready for 2020 to roll in! I enjoy Christmas as much as anyone, but it’s a lot of added activities to add to the already busy life! 🙂
Destressing in Chanel No 5 EdT…..
House twins..
How is the EdT?
I’m 6 hours in and still cozy and destressing! Wonderful stuff!
I’m in a drop of Theorema. I thought we might be twins, Robin, but not today! Happy Friday, all!
I will be in Theorema for sure over the next few days though!
I forget how Theorema and Esprit de Theorema are different. I have the latter and adore it…. Anyhoo, you smell delicious!
Funny, I was wearing Dzongkha all week, but for some reason went with Eau de Soir today… which is not tranquil! This chypre is making me feel like I should be more productive.
Maybe you were too relaxed all week and now you have to get it all done 😉
Yes, I’m a last-minute Louie when it comes to Christmas!
I love Eau de Soir even though Luca Turin said it was horrible. I don’t remember which adjective he used to describe it but he was not a fan. ?
Aww, I like it! It’s going to have to be the substitute for my beloved Balmain Ivoire once I can no longer find old bottles on ebay!
He must have been having a bad nose day. Eau de Soir is lovely.
I’m in possibly two too many sprays of Andy Tauer When We Cuddle. It’s a little more potent than I remember.
I’ve been up since 6am making chili and granola bars. I still have fruit salad to make for tomorrow. I’ll make lemon bars and pumpkin pie in the morning. I learned a long time ago from my mama to prepare as much food as possible in advance! ?
I hope everyone has a wonderful Friday. Stay safe and warm, peeps!
Cuddle is very potent on me too!
You smell fantastic ?
Thank you cm8!
Wow, your cooking sounds very ambitious! (And delicious!)
I’ll probably make cookies on Sunday sometime. And that’s about it for me!
I’m being smart and only preparing the menu items that I’ve made umpteen times before. Trying to keep the stress level to a minimum!
“I’m in possibly two too many sprays”…I don’t understand this concept 😉
Lol, I know, right? You smell wonderful in 31 Rue. ❤️
You know I wore that yesterday, and resprayed three times during the day because I was so good. 🙂 Good luck in the kitchen!
Thanks cazaubon! I’m all done for the day. Sitting with a cup of tea now. ☕️
Oh that chili sounds wonderful! It’s the perfect time of year for a batch. ?
Ummagumma today. Still locked in a classroom with other people and I’m sure they are loving my aromatic addition to their day! ?
I’d sit near you happily.
Your orientations always seem loooong. They must really overload you with info…
Learning a whole new computer program at the speed of light! ??
I’d sit next to you. 🙂 Bon courage!
One redeeming factor is the nice people I’m “stuck” with in the room! Could be much worse! ??
Wearing my very last drop of Forest Walk. Sigh. I will be working my way through numerous teeny tiny vessels in the next few weeks. I’m already looking forward to unboxing the perfumes I packed up yesterday.
You smell wonderful. The DSH winter sale is on thru Jan 13th, 20%off with code starscent2. Just fyi 😉
I am waiting until January when I have more money but I will be taking advantage!
I already indulged but may do so again after I move!
The Forest Walk lasted though the day, which tends to be unusual for me. I topped it off with Fille en Aigulles for the evening.
I’m waiting for some guy to show up and re evaluate my son for ABA services. I’m wearing Mad Madame because he better not mess with me. Lol. I think I might go with Dune tonight for work. I get out at 1 a.m.. at which time I will have been awake for 21 hours. This guy is interrupting any nap time! Looks like most of us are having good weather this weekend, Enjoy!
Hoping everything will go smoothly and that you don’t have to get mad 🙂
It went in my favor, yay!
Glad things went well. Hope your long day is not too stressful!
Yay!!! Good news.
Hurray!
I got mad just reading lillyjo’s first sentence. Will have to go spray some more Dzongkha.
You would be more mad, if I told the long story of why this even came about! Ridiculous!
What a long chore of a day. I hope everything goes smoothly and you get a sleep in tomorrow.
Thanks, but no sleep for me this weekend. I go back in at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
Wow, that’s crazy. Is that legal? Just wondering..
No, I don’t think so. But it’s done all the time.
Ahhh, Dune is always perfect – it’s so comforting. 🙂
I tend to overlook it, because it’s a mini. Thanks to Madtowngirl for reminding me!
???
That is a long day. I hope the cold air revives you for your drive home.
The good thing is not much traffic at that time!
Good luck with your day!
Thank you!
1 am!?? Hope you get to sleep late tomorrow!!
Yep, it’s so stupid. It probably costs them more to keep the lights on, then anything we will sell that late.
You can do it, lillyjo!
Thanks for the encouragement!
Good news about that meeting! NOT good news about your work schedule. This YouTube link seems appropriate:
https://youtu.be/07Y0cy-nvAg
Haha! ??
Wearing some AP Mimosa pour moi from a freebiemeet. It makes me feel relaxed and tranquil that there such kind people in the perfume community.
Oh, nice way of approaching the project 🙂
?
Keeping stress at bay in Annick Goutal Encens Flamboyant, I’m sure there will be other incenses showing today.
A real beauty!
It’s not a typical Annick Goutal but I think it’s my favorite.
I almost wore that one today…..
Then we’re almost twins 🙂
I hope it works to keep the stress away!
Thanks Lillyjo, today was a great day.
I just love EF, you smell gorgeous.
Thank you Cazaubon, it always reminds me of a provencal church.
Encens Flamboyant and Ambre Fetiche were the first two perfumes by AG that I added to my collection. Nuit Etoilee EdT came later.
Excellent choice, that orientalist quatuor I think with also Myrrh Ardente and Musc Nomade was really good, of those only MA has been discontinued, I liked it quite a bit less than EF.
Tranquil in Esprit d’Oscar. Steady line-up of fun in the next couple of days. This evening we are going to a Christmas concert with Anne Sophie von Otter, and tomorrow night my older son is coming home from college for the holidays. I haven’t laid eyes on him since August! And our little orange tabby has turned a corner. I got home at 2 AM on Wed, after hours at the emergency vet. He had a fever and was listless. But with a few doses of antibiotics pumping through him, he is returning to his old annoying self, much to everyone’s relief.
So glad about your cat making a recovery.
Yay for the cat! And that concert will be fabulous I’m sure. Such a voice.
I’m so happy your kitty is back to being his usual self! No matter how annoying. We love them anyway, don’t we?
How is Bertie Wooster, speaking of cats?
It must be wonderful to see your son again, hurray. And good about your cat. I hope all your drafts are finished, too.
Oh, glad to hear the orange tabby has improved! That’s great news! 😀
Enjoy your concert! I hope you’re not too tired. When my kids were small, I once slept through a whole concert of Angela Hewitt, a pianist I greatly admire, playing Bach. My husband was NOT impressed, as my head kept jerking up VERY tellingly.
I’m excited for you to see your son! Hope he will be able to stay through the break. Also good news about your cat!
Wonderful news twice – Yay for the cat and yay for the son’s return home!
Glad to hear your kitty is better, sounds like a lineup of nice things coming your way, enjoy!
Good news all around!
Hope you enjoy your time with your son!!
Glad that your kitty is back to his usual self, and enjoy your upcoming visit with your son!
You are smelling great in Oscar! Thanks for the judge; I should bring out my giant bottle?
Ack, stupid autocorrect..thanks for the nudge!
Awesome news about your kitty and your older son!
I must have clicked twice, sorry about this Robin.
It is all CM8’s fault 🙂
You beat me to it??
That’s right, it’s contagious.
LOL ? ?
It did not disturb my relaxed and tranquil attitude ☮️
Wearing Fils de Dieu as a no-brainer scent, so this is destressing. Felt tired today, so it also kept my tiredness tolerable.
No some diner cooked by the boyfriend and i am ready for my holidays?
Thanks for your feedback on Alaia. You confirmed my reasons for not buying it blindly.
I love it when someone else cooks for me. 🙂
I’m finally on holiday break from my preschool so I’m wearing things I can’t wear to school (too big, loud or too much when I get heated up). Today’s choice is Tauerville Tuberose Flash. I don’t think this got much love but for some reason it works on my skin as a bubblegum type tuberose.
LLol, I’m there with ya, I work at University and try to be careful and save the big brassy perfumes for the off-time!
I really enjoy Tuberose Flash, but usually wear it in late spring. It is an underappreciated fun scent.
I’ve recently discovered bubblegum type tuberoses. I’m looking forward to trying them in summer and seeing how I feel about them in that kind of weather.
mmmm, tuberose! I have a sample of TF I must revisit. You smell fab 😀
Less need to de-stress today, since my interview was postponed. And I’m still basking in the afterglow of seeing The Messiah at Carnegie Hall. It is our annual treat with dinner before. (And I always feel special in Cuir de Lancôme.)
And…small delights and satisfactions. After a few days of checking it out, our cat has accepted her cat cave and is happily curling up inside. My husband put it on our bed during the day, and she got up the courage to go in. It was on the couch last night, and he saw her in it when he got up briefly. Success!
I’m going with Orchidée Vanille as my gorgeous comfort scent. I may top it off later with Geisha Vanilla Hinoki (thanks again, ElisaP).
Oh, one year I will have to go see The Messiah at Carnegie Hall, I bet that is wonderful.
Orchidee Vanille really is gorgeous. I have small decant thanks to a generous NSTer, I need to wear that soon.
Well, my day started off on the wrong note:
1) I started my trek to my office very early only to discover my ATM card was missing when I went to refill my Metro Card. I used my credit card, called the customer service line to cancel the atm, not realizing that that was the credit services only. So now both my ATM and credit card are cancelled ?
2) I had to wait for 2 trains to get in one and it was packed tight and a fight broke out which delayed us even longer.
But, the nutella-gingerbread cookies were a hit at my dept breakfast, so that was nice ?.
My SOTD is PM Ylang Nosy Be. Either it helped me not freak out or I’m just too tired anyway to react.
TGIF!
So sorry about the crummy start to your day!
Thank you, it was jolting for sure!
I hope the rest of your day improves. If only you could teleport to work
The rest of the day was uneventful, and I wish I could too!
Oh boy! Hope the rest of your day gets better!
Thanks! I hope you weren’t too freezing today!
It was “summer” compared to yesterday! ?
Nutella-gingerbread cookies? When can I come over?? 😉
Any time ?They are really good. I made them a few weeks ago for a party for the first time and this round turned out even better.
There’s a Nutella/Chocolate brownie cookie recipe on Food52, it is the ultimate cookie/fudge fix for those difficult days when things just seem overwhelming. It’s chocolate/fudge/hazelnut, chewey goodness.
It can only get better now. It sounds like you have had a rough ride.
It was literally a rough ride! Actually, the fight in the subway was more unnerving than the whole lost card thing.
Ugh to the bad start, hope it turns into a great or uneventful weekend.
Thanks, lj! Uneventful would be great, lol.
Ack! Rough start indeed. Hopefully you got at least three of those cookies to console yourself.
I had my share last night since I can’t really do sugar during the day.
What a lot of annoyance! Sorry.
Thanks Robin- although I was glad to hear that my last purchase was 2 days ago. I can’t believe I went 2 whole days without a purchase! ?
Eek!
Hope the evening is better ?
Thanks cm8! I have some fun stuff tonight, so should be an improvement ?
Yikes, what a morning! At least your cookies were a hit.?
Oh no, what a lousy start to the day! Your cookies sound fantastic though!
That was a super yucky start to your day for sure! Glad to hear that it did get better.
I’m wearing Santal Exotique, from The Exotic Island Perfumer. Does anyone know how he is doing? I know hurricane Maria hit him badly.
Off to see the last Star Wars movie this morning. I do not have great expectations but I feel the need to see the end of the story of the Empire vs Rebellion.
Love Santal Exotique!
His Orquidea Absoluta perfume is also amazing! I have been hoarding my decant for a couple of years already. I saw that nothing is available on his Etsy shop. He is the perfumer of Zoologist Dragonfly, which I truly love. I have enjoyed some of his creations greatly. I also hope he is doing fine.
Some friends of mine are going to see that movie today, too. I’ll pick their brains about it to see if I want to bother or not.
Today’s photo made me think of the Jardin de Monsieur Li which seems to fit the project though Jicky was my first idea, but then all perfume creates a sense of bliss. Still cold and wet here, hovering around 10 degrees which is not a good look for summer. The flipside is that being this far south we have long days of bad weather as sunset is around 9.30pm. Have a happy day everyone!
Isn’t the photo beautiful?
So, is tomorrow your longest day of the year? Starting official summer?
10 degrees this close to the summer solstice is not good. Hope it warms up soon for you.
And I had thought about doing Monsieur Li! Maybe that’s why I picked the photo.
Hope it will warm up!
10 degrees for summer? Yech.
Wearing Lancome’s Magie Noire extrait for comfort. The hubby is headed to UCSF for a Trans Esophageal Echo (confirm diagnosis of Atrial Septal Defect).
I asked a dear friend to drive us as I’m a bit distracted and best I not drive….
Wishing you well, SmokeyToes. I hope your husband gets some good advice and treatment
Thank you Kanuka!
Speedy recovery!
Hoping it all goes well for your husband. I’m glad you have a driver, you don’t need the added stress of fighting traffic.
Fingers crossed all goes well today, sending positive thoughts and energy your way.
Sending positive vibes for you and your husband!
Fingers crossed for your husband’s condition.
I hope the appointment goes well and you get the answers you need to move forward.
You smell glorious! I’m planning to wear Magie Noir to a holiday party this weekend!
So glad you found someone else to drive! Good wishes to all of you.
Good luck to your husband. Hope it all goes well ?
I hope it went well! Fingers crossed they can do an easy repair.
Best wishes to you and your husband! And a big thumbs up to your friend for driving you both there.
Thank you everyone for the kind well-wishes. The good news is Kevin is home and resting, they didn’t keep him overnight. The attending and fellow didn’t seem concerned post-procedure, so we’ll wait for scan interpretation, surgical report and get our marching orders from there.
I ran into one of my radiology nurses who promised to look in on Kevin to see that things were ok.
It seems at every turn, we have angels looking out for us. I’m in UCSF all the time, it’s different when it’s not me (for once) but my loved-one. I’m so thankful for nurses, they really are life savers.
Yes for nurses! I haven’t had alot of surgeries thankfully but they’ve always gone above and beyond when I’ve been in the hospital.
Glad to hear he got to come home!
Me too! When he was admitted overnight at UCSF in October, I didn’t sleep well. And SmokeyToes was wandering the apartment looking for him (and yowling). I’m sure our apartment neighbors weren’t amused….
😯
Like some others, I chose a perfume I love and am very familiar with. Une Fleur de Cassie feels like a luxurious, warm hug.
Happy Friday all!
A luxurious, warm hug sounds like a great idea.
SOTD = DSH Lautrec Heirloom Elixir No. 9
I won the bottle via CaFleureBon, part of my recent “winning streak”. It’s powdery, boozy, resinous and vanillic – right up my perfume alley!
https://www.instagram.com/p/B6TZRL4BoPU/?igshid=195vnkxdi6z55
I will leave work early so I can stop by the Bryant Park holiday shoppes to see if I can find a few gifty things!
May your winning streak continue and have fun shopping! This weekend can be busier than black friday, with last minute shoppers.
That’s what I’m afraid of. That said, I do need a haircut and may walk to the mall because I cannot deal with the crazy drivers.
Hmm, that sounds lovely! Enjoy your shopping expedition.
The perfume is fabulous. Shopping, not so…I left with nada. I will have to get inspired somewhere local.
That’s a bummer about your shopping, or lack thereof. Not sure what I will come across tomorrow at a local mall. I’m hoping that the parking won’t suck.
I just made my haircut appointment for noon. The woman asked what time? I said noon. What time? Again, I said noon. What? I decided to cut my losses and said 12 because I think it may have been noisy in the background ??♀️
It’s unbelievable how noisy some salons are.
Hmm… yes, I would call Samsara, my SOTD, a destresser.
Work holiday party tonight so I’m feeling some stress. Once I’m there I’ll be fine but it’s the anticipation that I could do without on a Friday.
And just learned that the ladies get quite dressed up for this ?
Samsara would be my other pick for the CP
I have to admit I have a garage sale acquired bottle of Samsara but have given it little attention.
I’m not a huge fan of getting “dressy” dressed up and like to fake it with slacks and a blouse. Hope you have fun!
I’m wearing slacks and a dressy green blouse! I’ll add fancy earrings and red lips/nails to help take it up a notch 😉
Perfect!
Ha, I just got dressed for a work party…usually the only time of the year I put on a skirt in cold weather.
Can’t deal with stockings/tights. I’m a pants gal.
Very late getting back here, but I can’t deal with stockings anymore either! Boots 🙂
Ha! Good thinking 😉
Totally agree on both Samsara and dressy pants! Enjoy your holiday party.
Trying to de-stress without benefit of perfume–mammogram and doctor visit today. But, tonight is dinner out and something warm and toasty like Chergui or Winter Palace…… will smell good, later.
I hope that everything turned out well and that you are wafting a favorite perfume tonight.
go, Jepster! I had my annual visit with the squeeze machine this morning. May you enjoy your dinner and perfume-of-choice in perfect happiness and good health. 😀
I’m wearing Avon Rare Rubies which has a combo of cool citrus and warm spices that I find soothing.
At the start of two week break, I’m already de-stressed. I have a hair appointment this morning, it seems very nice to starting the summer holidays freshly trimmed. I’m thinking that Chyprissime seems suitably focused, but not overly assertive for a Saturday morning.
Enjoy your fresh hair, it’s a great feeling.
At the bookstore today! Bathed with Lush Sleepy shower gel and then applied Sleepy lotion and topped it all off with several generous squirts of Twilight. Lavender and Tonka preserve me!
Yum! I love lavender & tonka. Fourreau Noir is my fave.
I have the lotion- does the spray smell the ssme?
Twilight is very similar but is a right proper perfume. It is stronger than Sleepy gel or lotion and lasts longer on skin.
Hermes Hiris for me today. Fleeting, so lots of top ups.
You are smelling soooo good! I just got a vintage tester bottle of Hiris; maybe I will spray myself silly tomorrow with it!
fabulous! you smell wonderful. 😀
A heatwave and raging bushfires in eastern and southern Australia. This has been going on for weeks. I’m not close but my city is blanketed in smoke, again. New normal. Air quality is abysmal.
After a shower I’ll be in Eau Sauvage. New bottle, early xmas present to myself. Haven’t owned ES in years. Still magnificent.
Those fires are so terrible and worrying for both people and wildlife. Good luck.
Thanks Calypso!
Ugh, that sounds terrible. I hope that the rains come back soon for you all. Or a break in temps.
Neither is likely except as temporary reprieves, unfortunately. And it’s only December. We still have months of the bushfire season ahead. But thanks.?
I completely understand about raging forest fires! I’m so sorry this is going on right now and hope that it gets under control sooner than later.
Thanks Gail!
magnificent is exactly the right word for ES. 😀
It certainly brings comfort on days like this. ?
Chanel 1957
Lovely!
Chopard Wish, to get me in the holiday spirit. This is the scent I wear every December, along with my Nuit de Noel extrait.
I’ve heard that smells like Angel? But it must not really, because don’t you hate Angel?
Good memory! Yes I do hate angel, this one is different enough (without the rotting melon note) so it works for me. 🙂
SOTD for today’s cp is Barbara Bui Le Parfum, one of my best cheap thrills/blind buys. A favorite of mine from December thru February, it’s soft, slightly-powdery amber/woods/incense scent stays close to the skin and never fails to calm me and bring me peace. I love to wear just one tiny spritz to bed at night in the winter and to yoga class but am enjoying its gentle wafting throughout the day today with numerous spritzes.
May peace and joy touch your heart this weekend!
I couldn’t pick a calming scent so went instead with St Clair Frost because I found it in a forgotten box. It’s not about weather but a tribute to the poet and a poem he wrote on first love transitioning from sweet to more difficult. Rose, geraniums, clove, and smoke. It even has a burnt smell. For some reason I feel very tired today. Looks like my iPad has just suddenly died/-bummer. Sad.
Put your iPad in the freezer for one hour and see what happens. Sometimes the battery just needs to be shocked.
Update: after wearing this awhile I noticed an uncanny resemblance to old kinds of clove chewing gum, and became more and more turned off. Guess what!? That gum has had a resurgence and is being made again, and even touted for dental health benefits! Well, count me out!
I’m in Van Cleef & Arpels Rose Rouge. Cocoa and rose smell pretty chill to me.
Balenciaga Paris which is so pretty and easy to wear.
I bought that a few years back, then returned it, because I’m dumb. You smell lovely.
Ha! Been there done that! But, it’s not too late!
My comfy SOTD is Felanilla which shouldn’t surprise anyone who reads my posts. ?
I thought of that one as well. It’s very soothing and smells just wonderful.
That is exactly how Felanilla feels to me. A few sprays last the entire day. I’m still catching wafts of scent although I put it on early this morning!
I got some on my coat collar when I wore it last. 3 days later, I could still smell it. It was fantastic!
Nice!
Thank you dear!
That’s been your scent of the season, hasn’t it?
I bought it last year and have been enjoying it ever since. I just love it during the cold weather. I need a bub…
Well, if it is readily available and won’t break the bank, go for it!
I wore that yesterday and the longevity is amazing
I’m in ICONOfly Attache-moi, which mostly smells like iso-e more than anything else but is also somehow the first thing I think of when I’m looking for “cozy?”
Also my watchband still REEKS of Moon Bloom after the other day, which I finally figured out when I was like… how the heck do I still smell this, Hiram Green is all-natural and I mean, his stuff has got some staying power but not three DAYS.
It’s not a bad combo, but anybody got any tips for getting perfume out of leather? ?
Maybe sprinkle a bit of either corn starch or baking soda on the band, let it sit for a few minutes, and brush it off? I don’t know if it works for perfume, though.
Post shower, I’ve switched from Tauer LADDM to Serge Luten’s Le Participe Passe (a recent blind buy in travel spray form).
This seems a little more like the SL of old, with a bit less of that “Wow, how intriguing, I’ve never smelled THAT before” vibe. It’s working for me. It might work better if it were weirder, though.
Not as cold today, and more sun, so that was an improvement. ? However, the cats spent most of today plastered on the heat vents. Neither one of them likes winter weather. ?
SOTD = Rihanna Rogue again today. I had an “Aha!” moment with this one earlier in the week when I realized that it had a similar vibe to me as JM Myrrh & Tonka. Definitely not a smell dupe, though… I don’t want to get anyone’s hope up about that.
You killed my hopes very fast!?
? Well I am fine with that since Joe Malone scents don’t usually work for me.
Glad the cats stayed warm today! They know the best spots!
I’ve heard mentioned that Rogue is supposed to be similar to Bottega Veneta (which I’ve never tried).
I don’t think there is much resemblance. Rogue is dry vanilla suede to me, while Bottega Veneta is oakmoss and supple leather. It’s worth trying both to see what you think.
Such a lovely picture for today. I’m testing Grandiflora Queen of the Night. Wow. It’s very pretty. Also wore Dusita Le Pavillon D’Or, which is also pretty. TGIF.
This week seemed to last forever! TGIF!
I love Queen of the Night!
It is a very beautiful perfume!
I’ve got Le Labo Iris 39 edp on my inside wrists, and the oil on the outside.
I’m perusing my shortbread recipes and think the whipped version is the way to go this year; quick and easy! Maybe I will add shaved Toblerone chocolate on some and raspberry jam on others to satisfy both our requests.
One of my friends was making shortbread cookies yesterday. Great minds think alike…
?
SotD = Tam Dao
Everyone smells fantastic today! I love reading the reasons for our perfume choices.
TD really makes me feel calm. It’s almost magical. I have stretched out a sample vial for a looooong time. That makes me a good girl, yes? So maybe I need to find a bottle of Tam Dao . . . that would be the first bottle I’ve bought in a very very long time . . . oh dear . . . must think “no buy no buy no buy!”
Too bad those cute little 1 ounces bottles aren’t still around.
Gah! “ounce” not “ounces”.
Avignon which I adore for stressful times. As a matter of fact, I’d love to find an essential oil to put in my diffuser that smells just like this lol.
Speaking of which, I’ve just started using some essential oils in diffusers around the house. I know nothing though- does anyone have any suggestions about good brands/blends etc?
CM8 knows a lot about essential oils… maybe she will chime in.
Inexpensive I would recommend Now Brands. All-star Health sells that brand at excellent prices. Vitacost also sells their own essential oils for good prices. Wait until they have a BOGO and you will really save. And if you are looking for more exotic/ unusual try Eden Botanicals. Eden also had their own blends which are lovely. If you are looking for incense try adding some frankincense and myrrh or labdanum to the diffuser. I also like Eden fir balsam absolute 10 percent. It makes the house smell like a Christmas tree.
And my daughter pairs rose + cardamom or neroli + cardamom into her diffuser. Both combos smell really good.
Ooh, those all sound great!
??
I’ve had good luck with some of the brands I have found at Marshall’s or TJ Maxx, like Woolzie’s and Nature Love. Right now, Nature Love has a set of three oils called Three Wise Men, which includes frankincense, myrrh, and for gold, “golden amber.” Haven’t tried them yet, but I’m looking forward to them! Very reasonably priced: $7.99 for the set of 3.
That IS a good price! The diffusers are also a great price! I bought two for my ladies ?
At this time of year, I find Kenzo Amour relaxing but it’s not one I would choose during the rest of the year. L’Heure Bleue is a good one for Christmas time but it doesn’t suit me.
Kenzo Amour is a great choice, I wear it in cold weather only, it would suffocate me in the warmth. Maybe give a chance to some vintage l’Heure Bleue it is so much more flowery and complex, new l’Heure Bleue is more of a gourmand, I still enjoy it but the mystery of the flowers is gone.
Thanks, Aurora. I think LHB is a great fragrance, unlike any other amongst them all, but it’s still not for me. I’ve tried. I prefer Apres L’Ondee.
Anne Klein II for me! It has been reissued and it’s very comparable to the original (I have a partial bottle of that from the 1980s) but WAY more affordable. The vintage sells for hundreds of $$ online, but I’ve gotten new bottles of the reissue for $12.99 each at TJ Maxx! Now I can spray to my heart’s content, and use the vintage splash on special days.
Good to know! I’ve seen them too, but didn’t want to chance it. I also saw Anne Klein Blazer? But am not familiar with that one.
Scent at bedtime on Thursday was Crabtree & Evelyn lavender ultra-moisturizing hand cream, because it’s that time of year, and it’s been the kind of weather where my skin and lips get terribly dried out.
Scent on Friday evening: Paraffin Hand, Nail and Cuticle cream from Bath & Body Works. I actually don’t think it has that much of a scent. This was a gift, and one I appreciate. I think I’ll be using this one a lot. Another gift was Snowy Citrus Swirl body lotion. It definitely has a scent.
