Friday scent of the day 12/6

Posted by Robin on 6 December 2019 245 Comments

Happy Friday and happy Saint Nicholas Day! Our community project for today is Scents of the Season, part 1...wear something that smells like evergreens, or has an evergreen note. Thanks to thegoddessrena for the suggestion!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I am copying andshewaz from Wednesday's scent of the day, in Imaginary Authors Cape Heartache.

Reminder: on 12/13, we're doing Scents of the Season, part 2...wear something that smells like baked goods, or has a baked goods accord, or just reminds you of holiday baking. Suggested by thegoddessrena.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I smell green, though perhaps not evergreen in Ormonde Jayne Woman. Tea is a Christmas Tea by Betjeman and Barton. It is very nice.

I somehow associate Christmas evergreens with holly, and I didn’t do any research on hemlock, but I think I’m good. And thanks!

This one is quite mild and not quite what I expected but really, really good. Contains cinnamon, orange, almond and caramel.

Sounds nice! OMG they have a tea adventskalender ?

But i still have quite an assortiment of tea, i need to stop ‘hoarding’. The same with books. I was so tempted to buy a new book today, but I was able to restrain myself
First I need to finish one of the books i already have ☺️
(I have at least 4 newish books waiting for me to finish/start)

Betjemand and Barton is excellent and I really like their shop in The Hague (the one on the Dennenweg). I have a ridiculous amount of tea, but I do drink all of it (eventually?).

Jiji – Do you have a Kindle or an i-Pad with the Kindle app? Amazon has a service called Book Bub, free to join, and you can create a list of favorite genres/authors. Book Bub sends daily specials for $2.99, $1.99 or even free.
I look at the Book Bub list and then download the book for free from the Public Library (if it’s available).

Austenfan that is how I feel about too much tea. At least it will be consumed eventually. The perfume likely to go bad before it is consumed…

I have just dosed myself for the third time today (two early a.m., one post-shower) with gorgeous Winter Délice. (Guerlain doesn’t put the accent there, but it belongs there so I’m gonna.) Fir needles, pine needles, evergreen resin, gingerbread, incensey wood smoke: how could anything be more wintry?

They really need to bring this back so more people can enjoy it: the candle just isn’t enough. They could sell the hell out of it as THE winter fragrance, the way Estée Lauder made Beautiful THE wedding fragrance.

I’m wearing Norne. I considered Rhinoceros, because as I was looking through my fragrances trying to get ideas, I was surprised to learn it contained a couple evergreen notes. Sniffed the nozzle this morning and they’re in there, but so well blended I never noticed. But then I decided my goal was to smell as much like a Christmas tree as possible, so, Norne. I also picked up a fir tree candle from Marshall’s last night. The holiday spirit has arrived!

    Happy Friday all!
I’ve been wanting to wear Inoui, but I’d also rummaged around this week for something I perceive as more suitable for the cp. Inoui won! I did research the notes, and was surprised to learn it has pine! Well, I’ve only been wearing it for a few decades. ?

Oh I loved Inoui. I wore it in the late 70s, I think. I have a tiny sample now. I’ll get it out later. I hate to use it up, but I’d be even sadder if it evaporates.

I’ve searched in vain for my sample of Fille en Aiguilles and have been looking up things on Fragrantica to see what I have that would qualify for the CP. Since I just saw that SheriG says that PriscillaE reminded her that cedar is an evergreen, I’ve got lots of choices! Going with my favorite cedar bomb, Christian Lacroix Tumulte Pour Homme mmmmm.

Off to get my hair cut, so will put on fragrance after I get home and shower. And then we head out to get our tree.

But…I will be wearing Baiser de Russie. I like the bracing pine in this one.

I did not drool during my reflexology treatment last night, but I did float off from sheer cocooned comfort. The place is low lights and they keep it very warm as you sink into arm chairs. Apparently, body temperature drops during treatment, so the fleece throw they provided added extra coziness. I usually dislike that kind of warmth, but this was lovely.

I’m off today so decided on Cire Trudon Revolution for its juniper note, layered over Aftelier Ancient Resins. A little googling on Balm of Gilead- some say it comes from an evergreen shrub, and it has an interesting biblical history (the ancients really enjoyed giving scented prezzies ?).
It smells kind of foresty to me, in any event.

I am scent twins with Regina this morning in Norne. After a morning appointment I’m coming come, lighting the fir candle, and starting on the Christmas cards. Might eat some peppermint bark while I’m at it.

The French transport strike has marooned my L’Artisan amber ball in trucking limbo. The package left L’Artisan and was on its way to the airport when the workers went off their jobs, so I will have to wait for the labor issues to resolve.

I’m in Hermes Poivre Samarcande for very partial credit (article in Fragrantica says it’s an oak fragrance, so at least I’m in for wearing a tree). I love this fragrance even though I admit that it’s VERY quiet.

Enjoying my mental image of you wearing a tree. :D My (very old) notes on Poivre Samarcande indicate that it has (or had) cedar, so your very quiet, lovely smelling self may be fully CP-compliant anyway.

Fille en aiguilles is one of my favourite fragrances, and its the only perfume I have a backup bottle for ? (mostly because Serge Lutens started to move it from the regular line to a more expensive one)

Hey Twins. We are smelling great! I have a tiny decant of FeA. I have often contemplated a FB but not sure I’d wear it often enough. It’s a perfect scent for this time of year.

Taking the lazy, non-compliant route by wearing Montale Vanille Absolu again today. Robin’s review from ca. 2006 is spot-on; it is a pretty basic fragrance, but I don’t mind that on a day like today.

What really surprised me from reading the review was the realization that I have never smelled/tried L’Artisan’s Vanille Tonka! I thought surely I had — but nope, I don’t have any notes about it. If I ever allow myself to buy samples again, I will definitely get one of VT.

Happy Friday, all of you gorgeous (evergreen) folks!

Wasn’t feeling CdG Zagorsk today. Much too lethargic and hoping for an easy time of it at work today. Tomorrow, I am going to conduct a raid on Bath and Body Works. When I lost power for 15 hours last week, I used most of my candles for light and warmth. I want to get rid of that $20 gift card in my wallet. Yesterday, I tried the EDP version of Coromandel and reviewed it. I found it to be thinner and weaker than the EDT. I wouldn’t mind a bottle though. Wearing SDV today.

I think I’m going to go with SL Chypre Rouge, for its “walking along a forest floor while sucking on Red Hots” vibe. I’ve always liked this one – it’s one of those early purchases that helped propel me along the scent road. I remember feeling – as I did with many of Uncle Serge’s frags, and also with the L’Artisan line at that time (like Safran Troublant) – a sense of wonder at its strange beauty. Have done a “What fragrance pushed you down the rabbit hole?” Community Project?

    Smell good, friends.

I am wearing Chanel No 19 Poudre — green, but not evergreen. My tea this morning is Fujian Autumn Oolong and I am drinking it in between decorating my Christmas tree.

My sweet, almost 14 year old dog had surgery yesterday to remove some growths he has on him. Two were on his head, one by his eye and one on the back of his left leg. While he was at the vet, the Doctor discovered he had a broken tooth w, so he also had a tooth extraction. He is on some heavy pain medicine and antibiotics. Poor little guy is alternating between resting and pacing the house :(

I was scent free all morning because I was supposed to get my yearly mammogram. I found out that my new insurance doesn’t cover the cost of the technition to read it. So I decided while I was there to have my foot looked at, and was advised that I needed an xray, but again, insurance… so I came away with antibiotics and a list of other places to go. I am getting ready for work now, and put on vintage Poison because I’m feeling grumpy and anti social. I really do smell wonderful though. I’m in my own perfume world.

Lat night I cam down with a reoccurring health challenge–which gets rapidly worse if I am not put on antibiotics asap. Feeling hot, cold, and shaky and dreading the drive across town to the doctor, I got a call from her about 10 minutes before I was to leave saying she’s sent the script to the pharmacy. Still have appts I have to make today, but at least hauling myself to the MD is not one of them!

I got back to Seattle late Tuesday night and spent Wed doing laundry, grocery shopping, and trying to realign with my time zone. I went back to work yesterday and am super glad for the weekend.

I’m participating in the CP with SSS Forest Walk. Tonight, I’m going to an author event at my local bookstore. The author is Jeff Vandermeer. Hee wrote the Southern Reach/Area X trilogy (Annihilation, Authority, and Acceptance) and has a new book out called Dead Astronauts. I’m super excited because I’ve never read anything quite like that trilogy. He’s truly an original voice and a wonderful writer.

Here’s an “it’s a small world” moment. Reading recent tweets from Vandermeer, and he picked up some books last night from Elliott Bay Books in Seattle since he was already in town. One of the books is The Word Pretty by our very own Elisa Gabbert (she posts as Elisa)!

When does someone who’s buried in work comment on the lovely CP thread? Of course, while sitting in a hairdresser chair having snuck out from the office (normally I’d be here on a weekend but my stylist is leaving for a vacation, so I had to fit her schedule).

Joining several other NST’ers in wearing one of my most favorite perfumes for this season – Fille en Aiguilles. It’s wonderful but I find the price hike appalling: there’s nothing to justify that other than greed. I still have a partial bottle (and I should have bought a BU while the old version was available), but I won’t buy the next one once my bottle is empty.

I considered FeA today, but I got a lot of spiced fruit today when I sniffed my sample. Wasn’t feeling it.

    SOTD: Bogue MAAI

In a fit of, well, I’m not sure what, I bought a 50 ml bottle of Bogue MAAI, not even on Black Friday when there might have been sales. I can’t get enough of it, it smells even better than the sample I had, and I regret nothing.
So not really on project but I do smell green!
    Happy Friday, all!

SOTD for today’s cp is vintage Clinique Wrappings, another favorite seasonal scent I wear only at this time of the year. To me it smells like fir trees in the snowy mountains. Had a wonderful week with several local musical performances and looking forward to the annual Empty Bowls event at the nearby community college tomorrow. This event always puts me in the spirit of the season, where I give rather than get, and I highly encourage everyone to see if there’s one in your area.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead!

I’m in Slumberhouse Sadanne, which is part of my personal project to go through my old samples and I swear I remember there being evergreens in the description for this but honestly on me it just smells like overly-sweet candy apple and a generic amber. Definitely my least favorite of the Slumberhouse scents I’ve tried.

Hello there NST! Well, today has certainly had its ups and downs. The positives: saw a little bit of sun again today. Also, I did NOT have a cold shower today! It definitely wasn’t hot, but at least the temp was acceptable. ⛅

The negatives: still waiting for delivery on a package that FedEx says my post office has. Also waiting for some paperwork my brother said he put in the mail Sunday night. Grumble. And I found out today that one of my friend’s beloved grandmother died. She’s heartbroken. ?

SOTD = back in Oriza L. Legrand Reve d’Ossian. Incense and evergreen notes for the win (and the CP) today! ?

Oh thank goodness about the not cold shower. When will it be fixed?

So sorry to hear that one of your friends’ grandmother passed away.

As to the FedEx package at the post office, I suppose USPS is getting commissions for delivering those packages but it would seem that the tracking would get all messed up.

No timeline as of yet for the fixing of the hot water heater. It’s been totally shambolic so far… I will post details later on this weekend.

The FedEx package showed up the minute I stopped looking for it. (Naturally.) Mr. Jalapeno brought it in when he came home tonight.

        Thanks for the condolences. ?

Technically not participating in the CP today as I was mostly commando, except for some sunscreen today.

I did discover the crazy bug that was chasing me around yesterday is a Polka it Wasp Moth; emphasis on the moth, not wasp! Apparently it doesn’t bite or sting, but just looks scary. Still don’t like them even if they are harmless.

Have fun with your packages. :) I got my package from Luckyscent yesterday, and my package from LUSH today. That was from my shopping badness on Black Friday. I suppose the good thing is that on Cyber Monday I glanced at the ads in my e-mail, and just thought, “Nah.” I felt like I’d done enough, possibly more than enough.
