Thursday scent of the day 11/21

Posted by Robin on 21 November 2019 174 Comments

under a tree

It's Almost Friday and World Television Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: day two in Guerlain Cologne du 68. I have not yet been able to read yesterday's comments and might not catch up until the weekend.

Reminder: on 11/22, wear a fragrance by Nasomatto, Neela Vermeire Créations, Naomi Goodsir, Nest or Nobile 1942, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter N.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image (a repeat from 2016) is under a tree, at Tupol Island sim [cropped] by xanna ziskey loves SL at flickr;

My FIL left today and everyone was in tears, me and my kids. We miss him so much and hope for a safe journey back to Ontario.

SIPOTD is my last homemade chai

No SOTD, a few days ago I sprayed my scarf with 31RC and it seems to last and last…

I love (adore!) 31RC but it seems to last all of 30 minutes on me. I’m sorry to hear your FIL left for back home. He seems much-beloved. I’m glad you enjoyed a lovely visit with him!

I have a now, almost empty, decant of the EdT so I don’t know how it compares with the new version.
When I first apply 31RC I have monster projection, and then it quiets down.
However, on my scarf it has last for days..

I find the new EdP has much more tenacity. Th EdT lasts reasonably on me but no sillage unless I’m sweating.

SOTD is Bengale Rouge to warm me up. Brrrrrr!

We had some “weather” here the past 12 hours, starting with rain, then turning to snow so now everything is cloaked in a clean bright white, except for areas that have been scoured by the howling winds.

I took T-Rex out this morning and skated my way across the parking lot in a very elegant and graceful fashion, while the wind pushed along my not inconsiderable bulk. Poor T-Rex ran like a gazelle to get back inside, with her back all bunched up in an effort to conserve body heat. I feel bad for her but it was kind of funny because she’s SO dramatic. I think the real reason she was in such a hurry is because the lady at the desk always gives biscuit when we pass by.

Big plans for today are all indoors thankfully. Although I do need to get to the post office sometime today to pick up some mail…

Hope this weather gives everyone else a pass…❄️⛄️???

That weather is making its way through here now. We had howling winds overnight (so I am told, slept like a rock) and it’s raining now. No white stuff yet though!

I’m leaving for Ohio to visit friends and family early on Sunday so this week I’ve been really consumed with trying to leave things in a good place at work. So I haven’t been posting much, but I’ve been catching up on NST in the evenings.

SOTD is Mohur extrait. Yesterday was Mohur EDP, Tuesday was Trayee, and Monday was Nasomatto Nuda. I don’t understand why Nuda was discontinued. It’s so beautiful. I sampled their Narcotic Venus on my hand Tuesday morning, hoping it would be similar to Nuda, but it isn’t. It’s more of a tuberose gardenia that reminds me of Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs.

I was bad this morning and bought 3 Molton Brown shower gels on sale at Hautelook: Ylang Ylang, Elderflower, and Muddled Plum.

I’ve smelled a couple of niche white florals lately that reminded me of Michael Kors, which was not a positive for me even though I owned a bottle once and lived it at the time. Now I find it cloying and headache-unducing ?
      Enjoy the shower gels!

Today’s scent is Eau de Hospital Room. I spent the night here, which means I got almost no sleep for the second night in a row. Thanks to everyone for your kind wishes for my mother; her surgery went smoothly and she is scheduled for discharge in about 20 minutes. Anyway, I’ll put on some more invigorating scent once I get home.

      Ahhh Koyel,

Somehow we make it through. I get timelines around my aunt, dad, brother in law all mixed up. They all died within 18 months of each other.
But somehow in between, my nephew was married and the wedding was a glorious day. And a first grandchild/ great grandchild was born.
Our hearts and spirts have an incredible capacity to expand. Continuing to send you my thoughts.

What a tumultuous period. I’m with you, though–I lost my father this year, and six months ago, I lost one of my two cats to cancer as well; both of these have been two of the lowest points in my life. But also this year, I got engaged and I bought my first house; these are among the highest points of my life. So this year has had very low lows and very high highs.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful outlook.

It was SO hard. It was really hard. Part of why I haven’t slept in a few days is because of what happened the last time my parent needed to spend a night in a hospital.

But how can I express to you my relief as I unpacked my backpack at home this afternoon? Last time, I spent three weeks in the hospital and came home without a parent. This time, I spent one night there and came home to a parent who was slower, in some pain, but who was looking forward to being fully intact again soon. This is how I thought things were going to go the first time around, with my father.

Scent of the day: Comptoir Sud Pacifique Amour de Cacao. I said a few days ago that it would translate to “Love of Chocolate,” but I was incorrect. “Chocolat” is the French word for “chocolate.” I suppose “cacao” has more to do with the beans. Anyway, the perfume smells very chocolaty. I suppose that’s become a comfort scent to me. Certainly I’ve gotten comfort from eating chocolate candy for many years. The chocolate-scented perfumes at least are no-calorie.

Tea this morning was Bigelow Cinnamon Stick. That’s also a “comfort taste” for me.

I’ll share. I’ve been trying to get myself together to offer up samples I have duplicates of, and I got 10 ml plastic spray bottles a few weeks ago, so I should be able to share some of the chocolate and vanilla fragrances. My brain hasn’t been cooperating too well as far as making a coherent list, though I did organize samples for a while on Friday afternoon.

If you missed my post yesterday (I posted really late), please check it out as there was a bit of mystery solved involving an unexpected find.

Today, I am sitting at a Capital One branch awaiting an answer as to why I have not received a check to close out my mom’s account so I can deposit it to the estate account. The rep here said he sees the case and it was closed without any explanation as to why; however, the account is still open and earning interest (not bad at 2.2% which is better than the estate account). Anyway, I’m now very curious as to what excuse they come up with. It had been 9 weeks since I submitted documentation.

Thank you. It was so unexpected! They had each already given us a 1/4 share of their jewelry early on and I think these were left out because they really are priceless due to their sentimental value. I think they should go as a set, with the first-born grandchild as the recipient or even the first great grandchild who happens to be the firstborn of the firstborn grandchild!

You are giving me flashbacks in dealing with banks… I have a 3 cent check from Chase made out to our family trust. They sent it after the fact, and I have already closed all accounts. I guess I will try to just cash it at a Chase branch…. if they try to charge a service fee, since I don’t bank there, they will be able to see me tear it up.

        Hehehehe good one LizzieB.
When we left Iran during the revolution I had about 100 dollars in the bank that I didn’t get to withdraw. I thought about the interest on that for the last 40 years.

Aha! $0.03! The whoosh of heat escaping when you enter the branch already cost more than the check. Good luck!

The rep came back and said the case manager thought that since many accounts were closed, he assumed all were closed. I’m still scratching my head over that one. Since the account is earning relatively good interest, whenever it’s handled within a reasonable time is fine by me.

They did not make any excuse other than to say the case manager messed up. I’m not in a hurry as it is earning a decent interest. I was told initially that it will not roll over into another CD but it did; however, there is no penalty to terminate it early.

Very tired today because i had to go to a radiooncologist training after work yesterday, so i got less than six hours sleep. Sprayed lots of Fils de Dieu to cheer me up, but it worked not good enough.
Now waiting for my sheet pan dinner of chicken, cauliflower and sweet potato with curry to get ready while drinking a big glass of Riesling. Will get to bed soon.

It’s a beautiful day today and celebrated by wearing my new decant of Chanel Paris-Riviera, thanks to hajusuuri ? My first try of any of the Eaux and I’m enjoying this one. I wasn’t sure about it at first since I like my citrus to be more tart, but this works really nicely with cool weather and is pretty office safe, so it’ll definitely get used! Now I need to go and get my nose on the rest of them…

Just got back from a week in Big Bend National Park, where the only scent exposure I had was to the desert itself. Lots of hiking. Yesterday as we drove out it rained a bit and the desert released its full glory in olfactory heaven. I want to wear that! The Chihuahuan desert smells nothing like any of the orientalist desert perfumes I own — it’s much sharper and resinous due to the ubiquitous creosote bush and other resinous shrubs. So I’m wearing Timbuktu because I missed it.

Raining but warmish today, so I will take it. From the sample stash I’m wearing Laura Biagiotti Roma. I haven’t smelled this in decades, and I think I smell glorious!
Smelled on a coworker today, EA Sunflowers, in a lethal dose. It overpowered my gloriousness by a mile. I think people tend to over spray the lighter/fresher perfumes because maybe initially they can’t smell them? Idk, but I reaplied Roma?

Jeffrey Dame Duality Woman – very nice. I get a citrus, vanilla, resins. And velveteen bags, one for the bottle, and two each for the small samples included with the order. The Lily Aldridge Summit pkg included some rope incense, that was a nice touch. I really like it also. Notes include pink pepper, rosemary, patch, musk and sandalwood. It’s a nice easy one to wear, not heavy at all.
