Monday scent of the day 11/18

Posted by Robin on 18 November 2019 200 Comments

It's Monday and Apple Cider Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I went with Hermès Ambre Narguilé.

Reminder: on 11/22, wear a fragrance by Nasomatto, Neela Vermeire Créations, Naomi Goodsir, Nest or Nobile 1942, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter N.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am in Chabaud Lait de Biscuit. A soft snuggly sweater scent.

Ok it’s time to pull this one out for me too!
And I was just about to copy Robin in AN, hmm oh well, maybe tonite and besides I already have Chypre Palatin on my wrists, it is toooooooo lovely (Shout Out to HAJUSUURI for the love).
It’s a chilly, misty and cloudy Monday so what not just stay in and play with my perfumes?
In a related vein, I have a decanting question – ok maybe two of them:
1)Which type of paraffin tape do you prefer to use for the outside of the decant bottle and which site do you purchase it from?
      2) how do you decant from the bulb spray topped Diptyque bottles? I am scared to death to even fiddle with that top.
      Thanks all. Happy Monday.

        Wow! You smell wonderful!

        1. I buy my parafilm either from Amazon or Ebay. I don’t have any brand preference.
        2. I don’t own any bulb spray bottle, therefore no idea how to decant from them.

        1. I don’t use parafilm, I use plumber’s tape from Home Depot, the thin, white tape. Holds to bottle threads better than parafilm, I think.
        2. I don’t know specifically about Diptyque bulb sprayers, but Hiram Green Moon Bloom unscrewed from the bottle, and the other bulb sprayer I have that didn’t unscrew, I just sprayed into a little funnel. Hope this helps!

Thanks foxbins, I am managing using the same method… because this cap also has open and closed positions I really hesitate to try to forcefully unscrew it…so far I have about 5 mls done so I am halfway there.

        Glad you’re enjoying Chypre Palatin!

        1. I use parafilm on the outside of all decants and plumbers’ silicone tape on the inside threads of 5mL and higher bottles. I am agnostic to brand. When buying on evil bay, just make sure you pay attention to the length – you don’t need 10 feet but you need more than 10 inches ?. 3 feet should last you a while unless you plan on doing a lot of decants. If you are buying to cover your collection, you may in fact need the 10 feet!

? Ok that clarifies it, some YouTube videos no longer seal the bottle threads.
          Thanks.

I saw that it was back up a week or so ago :) I had set some fitness goals for myself as a deterrent to keep me from placing an SSS order (do I need more perfume?? Definitely not!), but I just met my goals today, so I think I have to go place an order. And omg, now they have sample boxes? Well, that’s me done.

I am really attracted to Egyptian things. I was Cleopatra for Halloween. I stalk the Met Store because I am obsessed with their Egyptian jewelry line that they sell and wait for it to go on sale! I don’t know why..Maybe I was part of that world in my past life..

I’m headed out to get my windshield replaced this morning. Mine has 3 chips in it and one of them grew arms during the first cold night we had. My lease is up at the end of March and it’s probably not a good idea to turn it in with a cracked windshield. Luckily there is no out of pocket cost to me, I confess I never quite know what my insurance covers off the top of my head until I call to make a claim.?

It’s drier, spicier and darker if that makes sense. I thought I had solved my problem and would love the Intense a lot more, but they are both really nice and I really, really like both.

I’m not quite as good, in Bottega Profumiera Gourmand edp, but not bad either. This is mostly a sweetened vanilla-ish amber to me. I’ll do for a Monday. :)

I’m in Bulgari Black. It’s my friends favorite scent on me and I’m off to meet her for coffee. We are scent opposites but like each other’s favorites.
She’s very floral focused. I’m more oriental. She loves “nice” scents.

Headache is still there…but luckily not getting worse! (once in a while i get migraines…though the last migraine happened a few years ago…)

I think this headache is mostly caused by hormones and a bit of stress (my first weeks at a new job are fun but also busy and energy draining).
But i feel lot better now.

Had a nice stroll in the botanic garden yesterday. There was a pretty grove of lily of the valley in full bloom but best of all was the boronia. The flowers are small and roundish and an incredibe neon pink , almost like metallic bodywork on a car. Wonderful rich smell,cranberry/raspberry jam. They are tricky plants to grow here. They seem to do well for a few years and then fizzle out…I think they need well drained soil and heat, as they are a Western Australian plant. I took some seeds from the karetu ( holy grass) that smells like vanilla marzipan when it dries (coumarin)…the gardener I spoke to a few months ago suggested I could. I read Debbie Harry’s memoir…she doesn’t mention wearing perfume , sadly. I enjoyed her descriptions of NY in the 70s . Grey so I need cosy…Santal Masjuscule layered over Twilly. Good, even if I do say so myself.

It’s a fast read. She writes about what she does, so events in her life like childhood, early years in NY, bands, making albums, tours etc. It is a very ‘external’ kind of memoir rather than an ‘internal’ reflection on her life, or how she does what she does. You get the feeling that she is not that interested in talking about herself. There are nice sections of fan art included. It kept me reading but maybe that’s because Blondie was part of my adolescence. It’s worth reading if
I also read Rick Russ’s memoir recently (a rapper) which was pretty interesting though I didn’t know anything about him. For some (random) reason I have read a few music memoirs – Kim Gordon, Patti Smith, Carrie Brownstein, Liz Phair etc. The best one , I think, is by Tracy Thorne (Everything but the Girl) ‘Naked at the Albert Hall’ as it was a really interesting exploration of creativity and writing, and musical influences. I never liked Everything but the Girl but the book is fantastic.

    Hello all!

    1) Am in Fresh Cream Soft Suede- perfect for a very mild, very foggy morning.

    2) the weather has been so mild that my chervil has re-sprouted (!), the parsley, fennel, burnet, mint and oregano are as green as ever; the japanese cooking greens seem to have a second wind and the the daikon radishes are still going after their damage with hail earlier last month. The collards and mustards are also trying their best, but I think we will just get tender baby greens from them and not big leaves. No matter, as I have been gently plucking leaves and tossing them in homemade chicken broth to make a gentle green caldo type of soup. This time of year there is so much wine, so much sweets. and a nice soup with greens and some beans is perfect counter balance to all the excesses.

Damp cold here, so I decided to be cozy in Gourmand Coquin. Been awhile since I’ve worn this. I started hesitating when someone at work said it smelled like gingerbread. Which I don’t get at all.

So, I sprayed one (one!) spritz of Cowboy Grass on my husband’s wrist yesterday. He then went downtown to a couple of movies. When he got home he told me that it was way too powerful. He kept trying to pull his sleeve down because he was afraid others would be bothered.

It has gone and gotten super hot in Los Angeles again. Just turned the AC on as I continue to unpack and get settled in. One spray of Box of eels as it is close by.

It took me over a week to finally get to fragrances. I am slowly putting them away in dark cabinets, which I couldn’t do before.

Ordered a bottle of JM Black Vetyver Café when it showed up in the website archive the other night.

Landed a new 12 month project and start next Monday, so I have this week to finish up. I know there is no timeline, but I like my things all tidy and in their place.

Another two pounds for a total of 22. Must be all the up and down the stairs. Walking though, not falling!

Scent twins with Robin in AN! —courtesy of the recent Split meet. Went to my caregiver workshop this morning. They showed some videos that made several of us cry (they did warn us). They showed people at four stage of dementis trying to perform simple tasks: making a ham and cheese sandwich and folding some laundry. The two examples of the worst stages were heartrending . I could here the man next to me sniffling. Fortunately they encourage discussion and sharing, which really helped.

I use sound machines in every room of my home and my Alexa plays pink sound for relaxing.

I have this thing called misophonia….it’s when sounds disturb you that other people don’t hear or pay attention to, like some one snapping their gum.

AdP Iris Nobile EDT for a cold, dreary day. I have today and tomorrow off as I have a bunch of “use-or-lose” days to use before Dec 15. This happens to me every year at this job- speaks to the relative lack of stress compared to prior jobs where I eked out every V day and sick day I could!

VdR is always a good choice. It goes particularly well with rainy weather though.

    SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP

I had to get through a crazy data cleansing step before I can produce my page of a report. Got it done, had the potluck lunch (current location…I have another one on Wednesday at the old location) and just kept going. It promises to be nasty out so I skeddadled as soon as I can…besides, I had locked myself out of my session so hopefully it will reset itself by tomorrow morning!

Commuting woes – I was walking down Madison Avenue where the side walk was a decent width. This woman who must outweigh me by 200 pounds comes out and literally did not look left or right and just kept going and collided with me! No one fell, no one got hurt, but it could have been really bad. I say someone already on the sidewalk has right if way over someone coming out of a building, especially when there is no emergency to exit the building!

Sillage – There is no shortage of homeless people in New York City. When it’s cold or wet out. Penn Station is a refuge. It’s unfortunate that the unwashed body smell leaves a sillage so strong that it filled a good quarter of the huge and multiple story high waiting area. I had to move quite far from the person before I could stop smelling this person!

Sounds like you had quite a day! I agree the person already walking down the sidewalk has right of way. Glad you were not hurt! As for foul body smells, well, the less said about that the better. The situation is similar in Montréal, but the stations are smaller…

I know that it literally stinks to have deal with this but I can’t help but feel sad for these people.
