Thursday scent of the day 10/31

Posted by Robin on 31 October 2019 207 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday and happy Halloween! What fragrance are you wearing?

I am happily wafting Vetiver Tonka. Hermès says there is dried fruit, so there must be.

Reminder: on 11/1, wear a fragrance with dried fruits, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I don’t know what you have but I would go for something in the spicy oriental family. I have a DSH perfume based on an pharaonic recipe and it has alot of cinnamon notes with balsams

Cleopatra used to have the sails of her ship soaked in perfume, so people would smell her coming from miles away!

      Think SILLAGE!!!!! LOL :)

I also think of Elizabeth Taylor when I think of Cleopatra, and I know she wore Bal à Versailles. Spray yourself 20 times and wear every piece of jewelry you own! LOL

I knew someone here besides me would think of La Liz when Cleopatra was mentioned. I have seen most of her (earlier) films except that one, but I’ve heard plenty about the production of. Oh! Smellgood, what about Poison? Sillage and Liz/Cleo all in one shot (spray)? ;)

Happy Halloween! Dressed as the Tin Man for work, in my giant silver disco shirt and silver glitter Converse. I made a silver funnel hat out of wire and ribbon that kind of wrecked my hands but looks great!

Wearing the original CdG x Stephen Jones since it fit my silvery look. Wish I had Tar or Garage for a better fit but I deeply love the one I chose. What would y’all have picked?

How are you feeling with the treatments? Usually the patients do okay with them. Take a walk outside everyday, it helps with the fatigue.

Radiation is a piece of cake compared to chemo. It is freezing cold and pouring rain here, NOT going to walk anywhere outside. The worst part is having to take an hour or two out of every day to go to the hospital, but it could be WAY worse. Thanks for asking!

I’m very happy in Amouage Dia and trying out Courrèges en Blanc. The Courrèges is lovely, a really easy to like gourmand iris with some fruit. I think I paid around € 15 for a 50 ml bottle, which seems ridiculous.
Dia is nearly as good as Gold, and the dry down is just as wonderful.

I find that Dia is much easier to wear than Gold. I think that the animalic notes in Gold are just too much.

You know, my nose must be off, or it’s just that my perception of animalic notes is widely different as I don’t get any of those in Gold. Dia is beautiful as well, and the dry down is to die for.

Participating in a group costume at work that’s barely a costume. We’re shark week, so I’m wearing a shark fin headband and we’re all wearing grey day of the week shirts with blood dripping.

I managed to find a perfume that fits Halloween, this week’s CP, AND next week’s CP. It’s Cadavre Exquis the Bruno Fazzolari and Antonio Gardoni collaboration. It’s got dried fruit, chocolate, and curry and other spices to my nose.

It took a little explaining without the group all together, but it was easy and fun. Some departments went all out – IT was Super Mario Kart and they decorated their large area by building a race track with DIY’d karts that they could wear.

Poison from 1986, the little Esprit bottle. It’s brown sludge, but it smells exactly how I remember it from the 90’s. I don’t wear it often because I got it to remember someone by. Got crazy and dabbed some on. How is this not still worn widely? It’s fantastic.

I will be chained to my desk all day today, but no doubt procrastinating by reading NST, trying to jam through several writing projects before I head to MD on Sunday for work. But, I am celebrating the Day O’ Candy in the vanilla icing confection Acqua E Zucchero by Profum Roma! It was a gift from husband yesterday, along with Nicolai’s Cap Neroli and Dusita’s La Douceur de Siam– all in travel sizes from 8 to 15 mls… perfect! Yesterday was my birthday (so not a daily thing to be scoring perfume gifts :-) .)

She-ra, lean in. I am in your scentzone this AM for sure!

The Cap Neroli it turns out was a gwp on Luckyscent–15 mls so a generous one. The problem was, my husband lost it. We were at dinner and I was ooohing and aaahing my presents and cards when my husband confessed he had had another gift, but he couldn’t find it. He thought he might have hidden it in one of his drawers but he’d looked and looked to no avail. So when we got home, I snuck away to have a look myself. Yep, tucked between two sets of black socks buried in his sock drawer was a black Nicolai bag :-)

Haha! I love that. I really like squirrels. Many of our neighbors consider them pests, and they do yell at our cats hours on end–but they make me laugh, especially when the babies chase each around and around the tree trunks . . . or our orange tabby tries to catch them in the trees–he runs on top of the branches trying to reach around to the bottom where some clever squirrel is hanging just out of his reach.

No costume for me unfortunately, but I’ll be marathoning some horror classics and hoping the neighbor on the other side of our duplex doesn’t scare off all the kids like he did last year.

What on earth did he do to scare off the kids???

I am hoping we get a good turnout despite the weather, because otherwise I will be eating all the Peanut Chews.

We don’t get that many kids any more even though more kids live in the neighborhood. I think more people are doing trunk or treat events.

    Hello!

    1) Dressed as Elizabeth Holmes with a bad blonde wig and ‘Scam Artist’ sash. I have a cold, so my voice is deep enough already! A co worker is dressed as Adam Nuemman with a sash that says “Kombucha on tap”

    2) Am in Petals fragrance from Beautypie; wanted a skin scent that would not further aggravate my cold.

    3) Am drinking a hot chai made with soymilk. Perfect.

If you ever have the opportunity to try Le Galion Ame Perdue, do try it. Though different in theme (AP is a fruity chypre) they share a similar warmth. They are both by Rodrigo Flores-Roux.

I went with Ambre Merveille. The last time I tried it was in summer and I got much cat pee. A wise NSTer suggested trying again in cooler weather and I am glad I did because now I am getting salted caramel goodness. That’s good cuz I have a full 100 ml bottle.

Rabbit rabbit rabbit – a cold start to November so am in Fille de Berlin. Yesterday was also cold and as I walked up the hill, across a paddock in the early morning I noticed four rabbits, each sitting in a small pool of sunshine away from the bushes, warming themselves after a night of rain showers. Boring work project today that I have put off starting every day this week but first a wander through the pine forest.

My plan for later tonite was to take a walk down our town’s historic houses street where almost all the residents have their properties done up in awesome and OTT Halloween scenes – some of them are really newspaper-worthy – but it has been raining ALL WEEK. Including today. So. I still may take a gander, wearing my cat ears, of course. Afterwards I may or may not watch The Shining that I have been saving on my DVR for just such an occasion.

The good thing about the year-long wait is that I think I may have moved on, lol. My decant will likely suffice.

    SOTD = Diptyque Volutes EDT

I accidentally wore this instead of L’Eau Trois and as it turns out, it has dried fruits as a note! Since I don’t want to think too hard for tomorrow’s perfume, I will just wear the EDP which has a more prominent dried fruit note than the EDT.

On the Splitmeet front, I had been too busy to email people back but will do so tomorrow. Also, I called Hermes today and the boutique seemed too busy with in-store customers so I will call back again tomorrow regarding the availability of 4 travel spray sets vs. an 8 travel spray set with no multiples of the same perfume.

This being Halloween, I posted A picture I took 5 years ago in New Orleans:

I also posted my Solstice Scents Creamy Whipped Soap and samples haul:

Now off to peruse the comments!

Posting very late tonight! The trick-or-treaters started showing up during my regular commenting time, so I’ve been delayed. ?

Song(s) of the day: “Every Day is Halloween” by Ministry, and “This is Halloween” by Danny Elfman.

SOTD = Niki de Saint Phalle, from the sample stash and a fantastic NSTer. This is easily one of my Top 3 Halloween fragrances. It’s perfect for today!

We just played a bunch of Halloween-y songs and Ministry was 1st up (of course)! Didn’t do Nightmare Danny Elfman but watched the video for Dead Man’s Party which is kind of 80s cheesy hilarious meets Nightmare Before Christmas (and there was some Rocky Horror, The Damned, Werewolves of London…). Nice to see you back ?

Wearing Ta’If from my sample stash tonight. It’s nice but I don’t need a bottle.

Tomorrow I am having my flex day off, and NOT running into the office. My co-worker friend and I are going shopping and then for lunch, I can’t wait!

Driving around commando today, but my scent of the evening is Nicolai Fig Tea. *Very* nice.

I couldn’t find Parafilm in local craft stores, so I got some from Amazon. I also got some 10 ml plastic spray bottles and a few 30 ml ones. The 30 ml ones look like the ones Pixel used when she sent out many informal splits of those 4711 Acqua Colonia fragrances (lol), except they have different-colored tops. I figure a number of you would have seen those. :)

It turns out that it’s not particularly that I need to replace bottles that hold large samples or small decants. It’s mostly that I had small StC decant bottles that needed some Parafilm to hopefully slow evaporation.

My folks stayed home from choir practice (darn it!), so I don’t think I can practice decanting from larger bottles to smaller ones tonight. Dad’s sneezing anyway, but with the rain, I really can’t open my window. Another time…

Welp, was going to go with Camel, but it’s Halloween and I’ve been home all day (this no one easily offended) so I’m it Bat instead! Maybe 1/4 credit because there are fruits?!

I am up horribly early so tacking an 01 Nov post onto a 31 Oct thread. SOTM is Maria Candida Gentile “Exultat”, for All Saints/ Allerheiligen/ Todos Santos. Every darn airline has dropped evening flights between Málaga and Düsseldorf for the Winter season, so I’m on the 06:30 going home for a long weekend. ?
