Wednesday scent of the day 10/30

Posted by Robin on 30 October 2019 256 Comments

Hump Day and Candy Corn Day. (And the splitmeet is still open!) What fragrance are you wearing?

Points again today, plus I smell delicious, in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Bakul Medjool.

Reminder: on 11/1, wear a fragrance with dried fruits, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SL El Attarine which is full of dried apricot. I had forgotten how wonderful this is. The last six or seven years of uninspiring (to me) Lutens have dimmed my memory of the lovely old favorites. Luckily this weeks theme is perfect for exploring them.

Oh, I know, but thanks. I won’t buy 75 ml of it, and I won’t buy decants anymore, so it is essentially unattainable for me. That’s ok, I regret not having it but I also regret having too much perfume — it all evens out in the end.

I am sampling Sì by Armani

Well, I was bracing myself for something horrible to come out of this little sample vial. Ma… Non male…

Chai tea this morning..and I am off to Harlem to eat at a little African Resturant.

..a friend of mine who is Greek, I gave her the book Song of Achilles to read during a 6 hour flight she had for work. This morning she gifted me with this beautiful Greek handmade vase with the ships that look like they are sailing to Troy. She said it was a thank you for reading Song. We both agreed that we fell in love with Achilles while reading that book. It is a light, fun, you-dont-have-to-use-your-brain books

I think Organza Indecence will do for friday. I’ve been wearing it a lot this fall. Maybe I will get Le de as well. The mythique bottles are so beautiful and I still ‘need’ a lily of the valley scent. Does anyone of you own this one?

I find the Mythique reissue of Le De to be a light indolic ylang/jasmine with a touch of the mossy base of Givenchy III. It is very pretty.

I hope it passes you by! I got mine too on Monday and knock on wood, did not even feel any soreness which of course worried me some because it was as if I didn’t even get it (I know I got a needle prick since there was a pinhole sized drop of blood on the bandaid)…or the reaction may be delayed….

My arm was definitely less sore this year than previous years, it’s weird how the reaction can vary from year to year.

    Good morning Y’all!

A Guerlain love story: Last night it was cold and rainy and damp and kinda yucky, so after my shower I sprayed 2 generous sprays of Mitsouko and hunkered down under the blankets. This morning….WOW!! The drydown was just sooooooo good, that I refreshed with one little spray for work. In Mitsouko heaven right now, in my cozy warm little bubble of spicy peaches and flowers. Perfume wise, I really was born in the wrong decade! This is GLORIOUS stuff…..I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!!

Another day in the Jovoy Amber sample I got at Fumerie. I’m revising my opinion on this (and perhaps all Ambers): the initial spray leaves me fairly unmoved, but the drydown is lovely. I’m realizing that I have many florals and some leathers and overall a great collection for spring/summer but few ambers for the fall season…must dig through my samples and see what other amber scents I have to give a try.

My SOTD is Ormond Jayne Ta’if, which is the first one of hers I ever bought–shopping some seven or so years ago at Harrods and trying them all. It was a tough decision but I do still really love this. I don’t wear it often, but this CP is reminding me to get it out more because it’s very beautiful indeed. Perhaps I feel it would be just a bit too heavy for most of the year given our Houston heat and humidity, but we’re finally in sight of fall.

YES! I was introduced to Tiempe Passate by another dear NSTer. And I would look at Antonia’s Flowers website and think about ordering it. Then when I decided to place an order, whomp. The same time AF went out of business. It is a beautiful amber, salty woody masterpiece. ? Decanters don’t seem to have it either.

It it similar to Eau des Merveilles?

Their website still says that they are on hiatus? If they are done, I am surprised that they haven’t cleaned that up.

Yes you’re right, I meant to correct that and put “hiatus”. It’s very different from EdMerveilles. I’ve been researching for something similar to TP, but haven’t found anything. I’m still pouting ?

Noting that last night I sprayed Diptyque Eau Rose on a bit of ribbon and put it in the “vinaigrette” locket. (That was the one from the Solid Oak steampunk costume jewelry line that had the openwork front.) I had a nice rose scent come from that for some time.

It reminded me of the Diptyque Prêts-à-Parfumer line with the stickers and cord bracelets and brooches, but much cheaper. Their cord bracelet is actually a foot or two(?) of cord inside a container that imbues the cord with fragrance, so a suitable length can be pulled out, cut, and fashioned into a bracelet. I think it’s supposed to make over 30 bracelets. Still, it seemed expensive to me.

Recently at Walmart, I saw a locket along the same lines — openwork front, accompanied by several felt discs that could be impregnated with essential oil. Apparently it’s a trend. :)

Scent of the evening: My experiments with a sample vial of Serge Lutens Santal Blanc ended up with a bit of the fragrance transferred safely to a bottle, and a pretty good amount on my wrists and arms, so as not to waste it. The purpose of a sample is to see what the perfume or cologne smells like, and I got that. :) I don’t think I’d wear it every day, but I thought it would be quite nice for every so often.

Sampling By Rosie Jane scents today… so far no loves…

The power came back on yesterday! And stayed on, even though we got a 8pm robocall last night from PG&E saying that our power was going to be shut off immediately (Bozos. We got no warning calls before the shutoff on Saturday; this time we got several warning calls but no shutoff. I’ll take the latter over the former, but still.) Perhaps we are past this ‘event’?

It finally feels like fall; perhaps it is time to swap out my summer frags for winter… yay!

SOTD = Gucci Memoire d’une Odeur

Warmer weather is back so I decided to wear this more appropriate for spring / summer perfume.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B4PYp1jh5OZ/?igshid=1tuvhgp8v6q55

In other news, the nose knows. I spoke with La vie est Belle woman and indeed, that was what she wore, in copious amounts. Next time, there may be a more extended conversation regarding other perfumes and would she like to try some…

I was curious as to what responses LizzieB got regarding weighted blankets. I don’t have one but have a fairly heavy throw that whenever I use it (while sitting on a recliner) it pretty much puts me to sleep, so maybe there’s something to it! I don’t know if I can handle the weight when I’m horizontal because I tend to be squirmy and also like the convenience of adding on or peeling blankets.

I meant to mention something about what you said. I am glad it and also a vest work for your daughter! Have you read “Thinking in Pictures” by Temple Grandin? Ms. Temple is now a professor of animal science at Colorado State University. She herself is autistic and based on her observation and study of animal behavior, she surmised that chutes are calming for animals and decided to experiment with a human version of a chute which I would just call a hug box. It certainly helped her and I think the idea of a weighted blanket is similar to that of a hug box!

Not all autistic people can mentally visualize that way. Some have trouble visualizing at all. But firm pressure that the person can control himself or herself does seem to be calming for many on the spectrum.

When the weather is suitable, I like to have layers of blankets. I’ve never tried any blankets weighted with lead or what have you. I’m a rather restless sleeper, though, so I think I might end up fighting it while half-asleep.

It was one of the first vetiver scents in my collection.

I had a lot of fun visiting the Chanel store to buy it (until a few years ago it was only available there).
Two young women wearing Louboutin heels and a lot of make up were buying a bag there, while I waited for my bottle to get wrapped. I could tell from their strong accent they were from the Rotterdam area.
I felt happily out of place. Haha.

Spent most of the day doing my not fun stuff and spent the day commando. Now it’s time for relaxing and picking out a perfume to wear. I am so happy that my Ulta package came today. I am looking at Coromandel for my SOTD.

Hiram Green Slowdive because of the dried fruit note. This is only my second time wearing it, and I’m enjoying it much more than I did the first time. It’s really hitting the spot today.

Oh, I like them well enough to buy, although many people on Fragrantica say Woman in Gold smells just like Rochas Tocade, which costs 1/10th of what Woman in Gold does, so I ordered a sample of Tocade to compare. :-)

    I’m commando again today.

Yesterday, I tried and got besotted with Chanel Paris-Venice. I’m fairly certain I was looking for a bit of olfactory comfort, and this fit the bill. Didn’t buy it. Yet. We all know what can happen with sudden crushes.

Venice is not my usual sort of thing, as I haven’t habitually worn sweet fragrances. Of course, ‘sweet’ has practically been redefined in the last few years, as fragrances (and desserts) have gotten more and more intensely sweet – or is that just me? At any rate, I’m more sweet-tolerant than I was previously, and feeling like I’ve earned a bit of a treat.

Excuse me, I have to go over-analyze this some more…

I didn’t like it at first, pretty sure it was the green, almondy note..but it grew on me after trying it a few times as I noticed it just wasn’t all about the green and now I like it. Sephora has a 10 ml I am interested in…perhaps a stocking stuffer for myself lol.

Hello NST! I was one of the lucky people who managed to fly out of Denver International Airport yesterday. I was returning from dealing with some “family stuff”, namely helping my brother set up her will, and prepaying her funeral expenses. I am exhausted from both travel, and the adulting involved.

SOTD = commando. Didn’t bring any perfume with me on the trip. I didn’t want anything to pick up a potentially bad association.

You can always buy (or be gifted with) a new perfume that reminds you of someone special, in a nice way. My Dad described me as happy. Guess what has become one of those perfumes I wear the most? Happy. ? it makes me smile and think of him.

Oh.My.Gosh. I am in Alahiiiiiiine today
(where are you LTSG??). This is A FB bought on sale /steal from Teo Cabanel that I’d waited for for over a year and it arrived today.
It is really fabulous. I loved it, the opening still reminds me of how I always thought Chanel No.5 would smell without the aldehydic effect. Oh this is so french, so crisp and elegant. There is something in the opening that reminds me of the original AuDela. I must review the notes. Gosh this is beautiful.
LTSG wanted to see if the reformulation changed it I don’t know, it feels the same to me, it is still a stunner. I am thrilled.

Have two vials of le labo The Noir 29 to wear to see my sister tomorrow and for my visit with her.

I have a bottle of it in my shopping cart at Nordies and a gift card so we shall see if it’s a keeper.

Did my walk through with realtor this morning and hadn’t seen her in several weeks – she commented I looked waifish! I can hardly wait to see my sis at the airport tomorrow! Actually, I can hardly wait for her to see the slimmer me:)

Oh, dear. That’s adding insult to injury, or the reverse. Hope you can get your money back. For a rash — I’d say for the external part try Calamine lotion or an aloe preparation (if you’re not allergic to aloe). Internally for an allergic reaction, Benedryl tablets (generic: diphenhydramine). Ouch all around, though. Sheesh.
