Thursday scent of the day 10/17

Posted by Robin on 17 October 2019 250 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! It's also the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Maria Candida Gentile Lankaran Forest. Why don't I own this?

Reminder: on 10/18, wear a fragrance by Maria Candida Gentile, Maître Parfumeur et Gantier, Memo Paris or Miller et Bertaux if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter M.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m wearing MPG Racine, which goes well with todays choice of image. Racine is an elegant vetiver and I confess I like it better than the beast that is Route du Vetiver.

I needed some comfort and peace today, so I’m in Tam Dao.
This has been quite the week. The last two days at work were very busy, I had a research paper due and I got an upsetting call from my mom yesterday. My beloved granny fell in her nursing home Tuesday night and is in the hospital.? She is okay but they discovered something my gut instinct told me weeks ago needed further investigation. Since I am not her POA for healthcare and live 250 miles away, it didn’t get addressed. Now I am kicking myself for not being more adamant about her well being. The good news is that she says she feels fine.
On a happier note, I just got off the phone with my son who talked to me for almost an hour. He sounded so good, and happy. That was just what I was needing this morning.?

This is a rough week for you! I hope your granny will be ok. Don’t kick yourself too hard. I think our heads and other people will often overrule our gut. Good luck on the paper!?

I get ya. I’ve had that same gut thing and regretting I didn’t say anything- more because I didn’t want to be alarmist. Now I’ve decided I’d rather be alarmist and be wrong.
I hope she’ll be ok! Sweet about your son ?

Try not to give yourself too hard of a time. I learned the hard way there is no right way. If I could have do overs, the consequences might be better or they could be worse. Not POA puts you in a pickle. Peace and hugs.

Ouch! I hope things get better. I was my mom’s POA since my dad passed in December 2014. Up until June this year, I thought the POA was only for financial stuff but in fact, I also had the healthcare POA. With that said, I don’t think it would have made a difference had I known it sooner.

Is is possible for you to be the Responsible Party? While that doesn’t confer the right to make decisions, it at least gives you some standing if the nursing home needs to contact someone to discuss a situation. I hardly think that the nursing home would stay silent on an urgent issue. I do not have the legal background to give you assurance that what I’m telling you is accurate, but it is worth a shot.

Oh yes. ? Glad you are enjoying!

Angel’s Dust was a sample that was with my order. I’m reminded of Misia EdP. Also reminds me of By Terry Ombré Mercure. I’ve read reviews comparing AD to a Guerlain (don’t remember which). It’s lasted about 6 hours. I dumped the contents into a spray decant, so what got onto my hands, plus several hearty sprays, it’s now a skin scent.

I need to try more from this brand!
          They all sound intriguing.

Btw longevity of Under my skin is more than 12 h on me. With two small sprays

And when I walked into the bathroom last night to brush my teeth (after a 16h wear), i suddenly smelt the orris very strongly upfront. Funny how change of environment also changes smell perception.

Incense dance-off on my wrists from the swapmeet: Plein Jeu III-V (Filippo Sorcinelli) on my right, and the better known Zagorsk on my left. (Now, ask me how many times I checked the labels to make sure I had written the names correctly!)

Ha! Do you like the Sorcinelli (not even attempting to spell that entire reference!). I have a small decant of Unum’s LAVS. It is powerful but I really like it. He know incense.

I do like it, but it is strangely under-powered. I wound up dumping the whole dauber on my arm–there is really no sillage and even the scent itself is fading fast. The Zagorsk, by contrast, has some sillage and is still detectable a couple of hours later.

You know, I may never have tried Unum’s LAVS. That was the one that started out a room spray and was adapted into a perfume? Or am I mixing it up with another perfume?

I am not sure about a room spray but could have been before I discovered it. My memory is of seriously recreated/captured authentic church (mass) incense, the types used to scent cardinals robes and such
          as part of ceremonial events.
I think there are or were also stones with which to burn pellets on as a part a kit. That may be what you are referring to.

It’s another day at work (leaving shortly for it) and will have to wait for a few hours before I can wear any perfume. But it will be a squirt of LADDM on my ankle. Then it won’t come into contact with the phone and no perfume transfer. I am happy that I took a personal day tomorrow and can spend the weekend wearing what I want.

Have you ever tried wearing a perfume bracelet, like the Diptyque rose one? I imagine they would stay under the radar, and if someone noticed you could take the bracelet off. Also, rose scents , In my experience, seem not to get so much hate from non perfume wearers because rose is familiar and pleasant.

Sampling Mancera Wild Fruits which definitely doesn’t seem destined for my buy list. Will make chocolate chip banana bread later. Fortunately for my husband, he’s married to a professional massage therapist so I’ve been working his shoulder (along with him icing it and taking ibuprofen) and we’ve got a hot tub soak scheduled for tonight

When I had cancer treatment, it was the chemo that was difficult. The radiation didn’t cause discomfort until much later, with much longer damage. I underwent chemo during the same 9 weeks as the radiation, and all perfumes nauseated me. The scent restriction at my cancer center was a blessing!

Thanks for the good wishes, all. I haven’t had any side effects from the radiation yet, although the radiation oncologist said the tiredness and sensitivity might kick in by the end of next week. The worst part is having to go every day, five days a week until the end of November. But at least it will be all over and done with by Christmas.

Perfect incense perfume for a very windy day in Nee York City.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B3uGiJnhJrv/?igshid=n74vhuqarp9v

I posted late yesterday so I am posting this again today and a few other times when I have relevant news to share.

This is open enrollment period for Medicare. Please don’t be seduced by the lower cost of Medicare Advantage (Part C). Unless you KNOW you will continue to be healthy and nothing catastrophic will happen to you, stick to the traditional plan Part A and Part B and get medigap. Part D for drugs comes with both plans. I will repeat this again since I am posting late today and there are many ads out there touting Medicare Advantage. The profit motive for Medicare Advantage is extremely high; don’t become a victim. Please note that I am not suggesting Part A and Part B will not deny coverage but Medicare Advantage, with its profit motive, has incentives to deny by default and hope there is no dispute or appeal.

You smell great. It’s quite windy here in San Diego too.

Thanks for the reminder on Medicare! You recommend Part A, Part B and medigap. Is there a particular medigap insurance plan you have found to be good?

I never did a comparison so don’t have a recommendation other than to say before my mom’s somehow changed to Medicare Advantage, hers and my dad’s medigap was through Blue Cross / Blue Shield.

        I have several suggestions:
        1) check to see if Consumer Reports has ever done a review and check out their best rated. Just be careful in that quality may vary from state to state

        2) get pricing from whatever provider is available for your area, categorize each into a high / medium and low band, then compare the bottom two of the high category and the highest two of the medium category. Try to see if you can get the pricing over the last few years. Those that jumped the most are red flags as these probably had the sickest / oldest patients and those that did not increase at all are probably ripe for an increase.

no sugar, no bread, no carbs, no rice, no starchy anything.

I don’t eat meat or chicken so lots of veggies to fill me up, small amount of salmon.

fruit, protein drinks, small meals throughout the day.

It’s been since Sept. so it’s slow, but that’s okay.

Aqua Allegoria Lavande Velours for a cold, grey, windy day.
My niece just moved to Brooklyn on Tuesday, which makes me really happy ?. We had her and her friend over for dinner last night and my husband made a delicious dinner of shug (Yeminite chimichurri, basically, with cilantro, parsley, lemon, garlic, olive oil, cumin, and cardamom) marinated lamb, fennel and orange salad, and, smoky, crispy brussels sprouts. Dessert was Nutella rugelach from a local bake shop. Sooo good!

A quiet day at NST! Wow, I should have been all over this week’s project but I’ve been mostly commando this week with bad allergies. Today is not so bad though so perhaps I’ll spray something later. But I know I’ll be commando all weekend, as we are going to visit friends. My friend claims to be allergic to perfume, but not to her daughter’s perfumes (“because they are ‘fresh’ scents”), just everyone else’s. Mmm hmm. Oh well. We enjoy their company very much, it will just have to be scent-less :)

It is a shame people throw around the word “allergy” so much. I don’t think there is anything wrong with saying you are bothered by perfumes, or heavy perfumes, but saying you are allergic to them when you don’t mind others you like better, well.

A surprising number of people don’t actually know what a true allergy is/isn’t. A lot of people think that any unpleasant response means they have an allergy. I see this all the time with patients with regards to medications they say they’re “allergic” to.

Ineke’s Evening Edged in Gold really fits today’s mood, but I wish it were more powerful. I find it exquisite, otherwise. I’m in search of a gorgeous osmanthus scent that doesn’t disappear so quickly, if anyone has any suggestions.

Coquillete Paris Sulmona. I was expecting it to be a bit stronger, like Ambrosia (which is a dup for SL Louve) but it’s pleasant. Basically a bitter almond/marzipan scent.

In Maria Candida Gentile’s Exultat today, and quite enjoying its dark woody violet qualities. Relatedly, I’m finding her perfumes quite difficult to track down at the moment. All the usual sites seem to be sold out, apart from her website. Normally I’d be quite happy to buy direct but she charges 50 euro, which seems excessive.

I really wanted to wear MPG Santal Noble today but just couldn’t eke any more droplets out of my prized red bottle. I don’t have the heart to throw it away, either. It still smells divine. Instead I wore SL Santal Blanc on one wrist and Santal Majascule on the other. They’re both too sweet. I like a medicinal, herbal, dry sandalwood. SB has a touch of cinnamon and SM has that SL dried fruit. They’re both acceptable but not my holy grail sandalwood scent. Still searching.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr! It’s been a cold and windy day. Sure made it hard to get out of my nice, warm, cozy bed this morning. Lillyjo’s weather from yesterday roared in out here with a vengeance.

SOTD = Dior Poison Girl EdT. I opened my bottle of it today. It smells the same as the sample did, but doesn’t seem to last as long on me. ? Weird.

Lankaran Forest is so good, isn’t it, Robin? You smell great.

I’m in MCG Noir Tropical today. I like it a lot, though not as much as the Lankaran Forest I wore Tuesday.

I’ve had a busy few days. Went to Koreatown to eat and explore for the first time yesterday with a new friend. Had a lot of fun and ate way too much.

Today met a contractor at the new house to discuss new interior paint and new tile. Then drove over to Pasadena to check out a doggy daycare/hotel recommended. We have a trip back to NM for a weekend coming up and I want a good place for Nacho to stay. I’m pretty proud of myself- that’s an hour from Palmdale and three freeways haha. Not bad for a girl from Alabama! :)

I’m home. The conductor made a nonsense announcement about a switch problem. We backed up to the previous station and then went forward again. I bet the engineer was distracted and went ahead without waiting for the go signal and had to back up to trip it or it would mess up all the trains after the one I’m on.
