Tuesday, Ada Lovelace Day and World Octopus Day. (A quick PSA: the next splitmeet will be held on Saturday the 26th.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Guerlain Néroli Outrenoir. Tea at the moment is an Upton Lumbini Estate Ceylon with a pinch of Mariage Frères Chandernagor.
Reminder: on 10/11, celebrate National Apple Month by wearing a perfume with an apple note.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is detail from Nature morte avec des pommes et une coupe (Les grosses pommes) by Paul Cézanne via Wikimedia Commons.
I’m wearing Calligraphy Saffron, from a decant. This is my first time to wear this, and I may have to indulge in a full bottle.
And not a bad price!
I bought a FB recently for 50€ and made a split with 30 ml. Great scent!
That’s high praise!
There’s a fair amount of love for the Calligraphy series here at NST.
Tea is marco polo
SOTD California Reverie from the freebiemeet
I have been dying to try this one, since I am a fan of florals
Dress today is a thrift store find, Desigual shirt dress, and along the bottom is stitched Love is Different Different is beautiful..and keeps repeating..
Your dress sounds wonderful. I love thrift shopping.
Me too!
I tried to see if I can find a photo but I can’t
The dress and the perfume are a good match today!
You smell great.
Grazie!
I love Desigual prints- so colorful and happy! Nice perfume match!
This is gorgeous.
It wears quiet on my skin, how about you?
When I first tried it I was disappointed because I thought I could barely smell it, but then I’d get this soft breeze of orange blossom and jasmine and fell in love with it. It is soft, but it really does remind me of a California breeze.
Its adding sunshine on this cloudy day!
I am enjoying it very much <3
Agreed!
You smell fabulous!!
Serge Lutens Chergui for a cool, breezy, cloudy autumn day. I have forgotten how pretty this perfume is.
I think I’ll join you!
Hi possible twin! ?♀️
Twinning now post shower and into moving packing!
Finally twins! ? You smell great! Good luck with the packing.
A perfect autumn scent!
It is indeed!
You smell lovely
Thank you!?
You smelled so wonderful today.
Wearing Tabac Rouge.
Where is BobH? I thought he will be wearing Be Delicious all week. 😉
He is probably too busy working on an apple avatar.
🙂
Hehe. ?Bob
Lol
In early morning sprays of Nobile 1942 Ambra Nobile, which I thought might be too much (it’s an almost candied amber – very sweet) but turned out to be just right for a very cool (or cold, I guess – it was 45F around 7 a.m.) morning. It’s now turned into a gorgeous fall day – full sunny sunshine with nary a cloud, leaves on the ground, on its way to warming to 70F.
I’ve got an itchy sprayer finger (and apparently craving roses, cherries and anything nutty or powdery) and ebay bucks to spend. Any input on these?:
Lancome Tubereuses Castane, Parfait de Roses, Roses Berberanza
VCA Rose Rouge
YSL Exquisite Embroidery, Velours
Nobile 1942 Cafe Chantant
TF Lost Cherry, Fvcking Fabulous
Also just learned that Edward Bess has a new fragrance out – Last Night – has anyone tried it? He also sells $8 samples of all of his perfumes now, which is lovely. (I didn’t look into shipping costs, though.)
I know F* Fabulous doesn’t get any love, but I do love it. There has been a decant on my Ebay shopping cart for a couple of weeks already. I might get it at any time now.
Haha! I was just going to say that I did not much like FFabulous (or Lost Cherry, sadly, as I like cherry notes in other frags). I am glad you and Nancyleandros chimed in before my nattering nabob of negativism.
That is absolutely fine! We all have different tastes, that is why blind buys based on comments are quite risky. Always good to sample first, even though 99% of my purchases are blind. Not so many regrets so far. ?
Feel free to talk me out of it 😉
Reviews are all over the place. And not just because most people are just responding to the name, but also in terms of what it actually smells like.
(And frankly, I find the Cherry name much harder to take than FF.)
Well, okay. Based on my completely subjective experience (!), I would say that both FF and LC are divisive enough that FB’s should not be purchased w/o testing first… My last near miss was Chanel’s new Paris-Riviera, which is supposed to be heavy on the orange and neroli–two notes I love. What could go wrong? Chanel + Neroli= Heaven? Right? I can’t remember what happened, but I did not wind up ordering it. When I finally tested it, it was a total no-go for me. I mean I really did not like it at all. It wasn’t “meh” or “just pretty”, it was blech! (Lots of folks love this one, I know!!!!)
Oh! I’m not looking to blind buy a bottle. Just looking for input on some potential decant purchases. I trust you guys more than review sites 🙂
I agree with pl67, FF is so much better than it’s tacky name. Light leather and I seem to get some incense. I couldn’t stomach the price of a bottle, so I picked up the body spray.
Any difference between the body spray and the perfume?
Oh, goodness, I’m not sure. I tried it on skin when it first came out, but that’s been awhile.
I’ll have to see if I have a sample in my stash and compare them.
I am so curious because if the spray is close enough to the perfume I might get it instead of the decant.
I found a little sample of the edp. Sprayed it and the body spray, one on each hand.
I’d go for the decant, M. In the direct comparison, the body spray seems a little one dimensional.
Hope this helps!
Thanks a lot, Nancy! That’s of big help. I will definitely get the decant then!
So do you both get mostly leather?
Yes, but it’s very soft. Not a big cowboy leather.
As Nancy says, the leather is very light. I always struggle with leather perfumes, but I can wear F*Fabulous without any problem.
I liked Roses Berberanza, it has a nutty pistachio thing going on. Or maybe it was the Parfait..?
I’d love about 5ml of Lost Cherry. The cherry coke opening makes me happy 🙂
I can’t remember which is which but both are well-reviewed and I’m all for a nutty pistachio thing. In my mouth and on my skin 😉
I love Lost Cherry…the lasting lower could be better though. I still want it, nonetheless lol. Fabulous was not bad but idk I liked Cherry better.
I have the first three. I would vote for Rose Berberanza or Parfait de Roses.
I have an Edward Bess sample of Last night but haven’t gotten to it yet.
Will look it back up again now!
FF didn’t work on me- it was soft to the point of being non existent.
Good Luck with your testing.
I finished a sample of Ambra Nobile on a chilly day last week and it really hit the spot. You smell great.
I am wearing L’Artisan Au Bord de L’eau and drinking a cup of lemon & ginger tea.
Robin, you smell great. I love your SOTD 🙂
Hi house twin!
Why thank you! And I assume you do too. I need to smell that one.
Vintage Coco today, just because. Another gorgeous October day is here 🙂
Vintage coco..va va voom!
ToTM is MF Darjeeling Rose d’Himalaya.
SoTD is Tea for Two, from the swapmeet. This is rich, smoky and fabulous on this cool (finally!) day.
I love your TOTM!
Rose d’Himalaya is one of my absolute favorite teas! Spettacolare!
Well, thank you for suggesting it to me! I’ve really enjoyed it. ☕️
You smelled great today!
I have high expectations for today because: 1) non-adulting 2) blue skies with a few wispy clouds and temps maxed out in the mid 60’s. 3) I have already picked out my CP perfume for Friday, which has NEVER happened before. 4) spending the day at the park with the most beautiful person I know ?!
Tea of the day is coffee. Scent of the day is SL Vetiver Oriental.
That SL is great in cooler temps (as well as hotter ones.)
It is! So glad I picked up a bottle. I waffled back and forth forever, but it’s one of my most worn SL scents.
Sounds like a great day! VO is wonderful.
Enjoy your excellent day off!
Sounds like an awesome day!
I am wearing Jasmin rouge, in an attempt to brighten up the cloudy weather.
Right now i am cuddled up on the sofa with tea and a book. Its the real life story of two Jewish sisters in the resistance. I am just 50 pages in and already hooked. And that does not happen often.
I forgot to add to the word resistance: “in the Netherlands in world war II”
For those wondering ‘what resistance?’ hahaha
I love when books drag you right in.
I recently read 3 Women, it took me 3 days of serious reading to finish it….when I passed it to my girlfriend she stayed up until 2am to finish it. Some books sink their claws in ya and don’t let you go…
I love it when that happens, the magic of writing/reading!
What is your book called?
‘t Hooge Nest
It was in new a few weeks ago, film rights were bought by a Dutch production company… I can see how this story is very suitable for a movie, but this is such a well written book with a big heart, a voice of humanity….i hope they will respect it and not make it into something like Black Book….
Correction: ‘it was in the News’
Thanks!
MF Earl Grey French Blue today, with a lemon drop cupcake. I bought 4 cupcakes last Sunday to eat as breakfasts through the week. I need the extra oomph this week!
Trying a teeny spritz of OJ Ormonde Elixir from a sample. The oudh dominates in a really good way, even though i tend to shy away from it.
Your breakfast sounds utterly delicious!
Perfect breakfast!
If I did that, the cupcakes would be gone by mid morning Monday, so I salute your self control.
Please let me know what you think.
PSA: Sonoma Scent Studios is open for business and pre-orders.
I made my purchase before I left for work this morning! I picked up 15ml each of Equestrian and Jour Ensoleille and 5ml each of Bee’s Bliss (blind buy) and Yin and Ylang.
I did 15 ml of JE also. That’s the one I was waiting for. And 5 ml of Winter Woods. (I plan to wear the latter as I watch Hallmark Christmas movies….)
I just ordered travel sprays of Bee’s Bliss, Champagne de Bois and Winter Woods. I cannot wait to try these!
Oh! Thanks for the heads up!
Thank You lizzieB!
Thanks for the heads up!
Ohhh that’s wonderful, went straight to their site but they don’t ship outside the States, so sad…. I’m in Spain so will have to wait until they ship to Europe…
Good morning Y’all….
Just checking in to say howdy…..I had a migraine on Sunday and Monday so I’m giving myself an extra day without perfume to make sure my olfactory/nervous system/brain is back online and won’t be irritated by anything. (I seem to perfectly fine now) I got my October Indigo discovery set yesterday and can’t wait to dig in tonight or tomorrow! Also got a sample of YSL Libre in the mail and might try that tonight. Good sniffing straight ahead!
My “tea” of the day is a very unsophisticated Mountain Dew….LOL!
It’s a terrible fate isnt it, to be a migraineuse who loves perfume! And of course when I have one I cant stand to be around strong smells of any kind…
And no shame on your tea, my morning tea was 44 oz of strawberry diet dr pepper from wawa 🙂
They have strawberry dr pep? Mmm:).
I like Barqs..probably my fave soda lol.
It’s from the coke freestyle machine! The best is when you find one that has Mr. Pibb Zero, but they are like unicorns!
I sprayed Libre on myself at Sephora the other day. Nice. I don’t need it, but it’s nice.
Mountain Dew is delicious. Although I always liked Fresca a little more.
I love Fresca! Also makes a nice complement to vodka…
Fresca is part of a favorite non-alcoholic punch of mine.
Glad your migraine is easing up, Jada.
Solstice Scents Kitchen today…notes are Pumpkin, Sugar Cookies, Peach Preserves, Spice Breads, Danishes, Caramel, Vanilla & Sweet Wood Smoke.
As I was getting my daughter into her car seat she said, “I love your pumpkin spice perfume.” ? ?
It started a bit candle-y at first but is now a nice spicy baking day scent.
I love your daughter! How adorable!
People around you must be hungry!
Your daughter says the cutest things.
Love it!
I’m wearing atelier cologne Pacific lime. It’s fine, smells like limes.
🙂
Lol!!
Busy morning, so whatever mini I had in my desk drawer – Tocca Cleopatra.
Even Cleopatra had busy mornings, presumably. Hope the afternoon is better!
How do you like that one? I really enjoy Colette.
I much prefer Colette but it’s a decent office scent. I wouldn’t go out of my way for it, probably, but as a Sephora freebie it does its job.
Prada Infusion d’Oeillet today.
Ahhhh. Good one.
I’m wearing my free gift with purchase body cream of McQueen Parfum, and I do smell very nice indeed. Plus (a) I’m back in my house and it’s cooler because Houston finally got a cool front, and (b) the repairman is REALLY supposed to come this afternoon!
Yay on all accounts!
Glad to hear that you have cooled off!
Virtual high five for all of the above!
On theme in Soivohle A Rose For Beacon Free
I’m wearing YSL Champagne, which is sweeter and fuzzier than I was expecting.
l’Ambre des Merveilles. This one is just classy. WIsh I were classier, at least clothes-wise.
you can borrow my dress today 😉
Me too. When I was younger, I never wore make up or did anything with my hair, but when I did make an effort, one could at least see some improvement. I’m still like that, but now when I make an effort I just look old and weird. Even my kids will say, What’s up with the make up? I am now officially an older, frumpy woman!
My favorite? “Oh. You are wearing make-up. . . . .” followed by very pregnant pause.
I’m wearing golden version of Gentle Fluidity today. Fluffy vanilla cashmere.
Still not on CP with my fragrance: Beloved, which seems to contain everything but the kitchen sink except for apple.
??? = today’s score so far.
I wore Beloved last week on a cold day. You smell beautiful!
Been having a rough morning full of phone calls. I go into work much later than normal today. I will finish one or two more phone calls and then I am done. I want to be done by 1:30 and relax before work at 4. I am debating on either SDV or Apres L’ondee for today.
Did you get your perfumes back?
I was afraid to ask this question but dying to know…
I needed comfort today so I went went Aroma M Geisha Vanilla Hinoki.
Vanilla is always great for comfort.
I hope it enveloped you in cuddliness and comfort!
You smell great!
Weirdly, it is cool enough this AM that I am finally keen to test my swapmeet Chanels. Starting in Paris-Venise–so far, pretty, but not rocking my world.
Weirdly cool because our gas and electric company in California is planning to cut power to 600,000 people in the next two days as a safety precaution due to the heat and high winds. My house is in the outage zone (I am guessing Pixel’s is as well). The news on this has been light, and I am really concerned about elderly folks and people who rely on electricity for health reasons. As the kids say, “Brace yourself!”
Wow! Cutting power for so many people sounds extreme. They must be very concerned to use such a drastic measure. Is it only residential or does that include hospitals and nursing homes?
I know. That number sounds high, but it is what the WSJ is reporting. One part of me wonders if some of the outages may be punitive– as in the PG&E (said gas and electric co.) is saying that if they are to be held legally and financially accountable for the Paradise Fire, then they will just cut-off power to hundreds of thousands of people every time it gets hot and windy.
I’m betting it’s punitive, out of sheer vindictiveness.
PS It includes hospitals and nursing homes. A friend who works at a nearby hospital says it has four days back-up via its generator. I am not sure how that compares to other hospitals.
October in California is a dangerous month. I still remember waking up to the tin roof banging on my porch the day of the East Bay Hills fire. And opening the window by my bed and getting blasted by the warm wind. Scary time.
Every time I feel those warm winds, which in other places and circumstances I find wonderful, all I can think is, “here comes fire weather.”
Hi Oakland, I finished the King Must Die last night
It was dark and violent, but alluring…
Ahhh, I love that book. One of my very favorites.
I wondered if you were in the outage zone when I heard about the planned power cuts this afternoon. The Weather Channel mentioned up to 800,000 customers affected.
I am. 🙁
Kiss Me Intense again. Been wearing that fairly frequently as the weather cools. I like the bitter almond with the vanilla. Not too sweet. But cozy.
The weather stayed warm here for so long that even minor cooling seems like a surprise. I guess I need to drag out the heavy jackets.
Hi all,
My SOTD is Fendi by Fendi for a busy work day. 🙂
I went to spin class yesterday and had a lovely conversation with my instructor about perfumes (I was wearing Samsara yesterday). I made several samples to give to her today, including vintage Samsara EDP, Chanel’s Chance EDP, and Amarige EDP. She normally wears Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle.
you are so generous
So sweet!
I got an email this morning that Atelier has their advent calendars for sale already. I bought two, both as gifts. Christmas is coming, and I know that because my Costco already has the artificial trees on display. It’s an intermittent sun day here in Portland, and I am wearing Organza Indecence.
Thanks for everybody’s good wishes yesterday for Bertie’s checkup. The vet said he’s older than the humane society guessed, about 12 rather than 8, but in general good health other than slight renal disease. Oh, and his remaining two teeth will have to come out in the next 4-6 months. Wet food for life! He’ll be so happy.
I feel for poor Bertie and his dental issues. I was driving “home” from work last night and saw a couple of Christmas trees blinking merrily away through living room windows..! ?
wut.
?
No, no, no, that is just wrong.
So many levels of “Nope” on that! I can’t even.
awww, sweet Bertie – poor furry baby. I’m sure he appreciates the wet food!
And 4 years tacked on to him ? Wishing him many more years of health!
?
Poor Bertie! Dental issues are the pits for both humans and companion animals.
Hate to hear about Bertie’s teeth but happy he will get to enjoy some delicious wet food!
Feeling relaxed and refreshed after an acupuncture appointment, so now time for a spritz of Pamplemousse Rose to finish out the afternoon.
Cool here, very cool, but no sun…..
That does sound like a perfect afternoon!
I took today and tomorrow off, so a nice short week for me. I’m in a generous misting of ELDO Antiheros- lavender for a cool, grey day.
It looks like the sun will hide for the next few days..
I know? I think I’ll hide with it!
Tomorrow’s forecast is a whole lotta UGH for me, too.
Another glorious fall day, out running errands and voting early as the federal election is after we leave Canada next Tuesday for the winter. Boxes mostly packed, just have to pack the last bit of perfumes/lotions that are going south with me. I’m wearing SL Rose de Nuit.
Lucky You! I am curious as to what you pack Cazaubon, I did all citrus & floral summer fragrances and easily to travel samples/minis when I travelled. But I missed my heavier stuff.
What about you?
I envy your seasonal moves to better weather, but not the packing part!
This is not like a vacation travel packing, as I have full collections at both ends. It’s mostly bringing things I bought or swapped for here in Canada back to California that I want to wear over the winter, or duplicates for the other house.
Copious wearing of
SOTD = St. Clair Scents Pandora
because I can, from my travel spray.
https://www.instagram.com/p/B3XkejNhk2q/?igshid=115m5grirkl92
My short summary of what Pandora smells like to me is apple up top, then equal parts green, earthy and floral over an incensy and resinous base?
I ended up working from home today because of a meeting at the ungodly hour of 6AM. You would think this is bad enough but not having known that until yesterday, I already set up 4 calls tonight starting at 9PM and into 1AM tomorrow morning. All I can say is that the people on the phone better be wide awake because I accommodated their time zone. One call will be particularly difficult because I am giving them constructive feedback that will require them to start thinking instead of copying and pasting blindly. Oy!
I ventured outside for 18 seconds to get my mail and it is just a cold gloomy gray day. It makes a difference if the trees are already in their autumn glory but most of them are still green!
Wish me luck please…tomorrow is a call with the Administrative Law Judge on the Medicare Appeal. Part of me wants the other parties tomorrow to not show up. If they show up and demure returning the out-of-pocket costs and the ALJ finds in their favor, I am taking it all the way to Federal District Court (on appeal) and if that doesn’t work out, there may be a possible lawsuit which will cost the other parties more on administrative costs alone AND they will have a lot more to explain on irrefutable evidence of falsification of medical records as well as malpractice, incompetence, poor judgment and neglect (I may or may not go forward as it will eat into my time as well; one sister is fully on board and the other one can be persuaded).
I’m rooting for you Hajusuuri! I hope it will go well.
Best Of Luck!
Good luck! ☘?
Best of luck!
Super greatest good luck!
Hey, can I send you a decant of Dylan Blue for women? If so, ping me at ann dottie eisenberg atta girl comcast dottie net and remind me of your coordinates!
All the best tomorrow! ? I so hope that things go your way.
You’ve got this! ??
VERY good luck to you, I hope they just decide to lose gracefully.
Best of luck to you!
Bengale Rouge for my comfort scent.
Gor-ge-ous! I hope it works!
No scent yet today. It’s another grey drizzly spring day, I might put on some of my treasured decant of Wit later in protest.
Tea will be plain rooibos once the cat lets me stand up to make it 😀
We”re having a gray drizzly fall day here. At least you are cozy!
Lap cats are some of the best space heaters ever. ?
YUM, Wit.
This weekend I figured out which perfumes I have for the CP, so I plan to wear something with an apple note all week. I can’t promise that I can smell the apple in all of them though.
Today I definitely smell the apple in SSS Equestrian. I really love this perfume. It’s fall in a bottle. Yesterday, I was also smelling really great in Eve by St. Clair.
I was wondering if someone would wear Equestrian soon!
I hope you can give me inspirations! I’m desperately looking for scents I have with apple.
SOTD Encre Noir thanks to the freebie-meet. Such a great everyday vetiver. It doesn’t make me sniff my arm obsessively like Vetiver Extraordinaire, but the last time I wore VE to work, a student asked, “Is something burning in here?”
SOTE is Superstitious, which I like better than the last time I tried it. It feels both technically beautiful and not very friendly.
Ah, interesting take on VE.
Late again. Being tardy to NST is becoming a bad habit. ? It was a mostly grey and gloomy day today, but a brief flash of sunshine came out shortly before the sun set. Still kinda muggy and warm today.
SOTD = back in Samsara EdT. I can easily wear this version in warmer weather. Pretty!
Same on being tardy. I’m having to adjust to going from going from Central time in Alabama to Mountain in New Mexico and now Pacific.
You smell great!
Very chilly here today. To combat this, I am wearing a few sprays of vintage Shalimar tonight.
It’s supposed to freeze overnight; let’s hope not!
Brr! We are still well above freezing at night here, although we got close last week.
Loooove vintage Shalimar. You smell absolutely perfect.
I have nothing with an apple note that I know of- hoping to get ideas from you all this week!
Wore Good Girl Gone Bad today and I have to say, I smelled great lol. I haven’t worn it much but I kept getting whiffs this afternoon and thinking, “someone smells so good,” and it was me haha.
Tried my sample of Azemour. Loved the bright opening citrus, which was of course fleeting, but the drydown was a winter-cozy incensy chypre. This would be so perfect for the winter blues.
This evening I’m sniffing at my dab of Cowboy Grass. A more thorough investigation will be required!
Commando Monday and Tuesday, except for Bigelow Lemon lotion a few times in there. I’ll try to find the opportunity to experiment with some samples.
