Yep, it's Friday. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance by Laboratorio Olfattivo, Lubin, La Via del Profumo, Les Parfums de Rosine or Liquides Imaginaires, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter L.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
It's my last day at the beach. The weather is perfect. I'm celebrating with a wee drop (I am almost out) of Tawaf from La Via del Profumo.
Reminder: on 9/27 we're going to Flavortown...wear a scent that you associate with one of the five basic tastes (sweet, sour, salty, umami or bitter). Triple bonus points for starting on Monday and doing all 5. Suggested by Regina.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m wearing Un Zeste de Rose by Les Parfums de Rosine, from a freebiemeet sample. It was the only one of the CP houses that I had.
Twins!
You both smell great…I always liked Zeste, but liked Ecume better. No idea if I still do, they must have been reformulated by now!
Un Zeste is a very pretty beachy rose! ?
I’m a fail for the cp, but I smell good in Vanille Insensee.
Saw the Downton Abbey movie last night. I laughed, I cried and I would recommend it to fans of the show.
I want to see that! I was trying to convince my friend to see that instead of the Bernadette film
Oh yay.
Do you think it was set up for a sequel?
https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/The-Official-Downton-Abbey-Cookbook/Annie-Gray/9781681883694
I saw this Downton Abbey cookbook yesterday and thought of you. It looked good
Lann-Ael from Lostmarc’h. I had samples from a couple of the approved houses but I was in a mood for something familiar for the L project
I’m going to join you, I think. Breakfast in faerie sounds just about right for this morning.
Ciao Amici
I do have some Lubin but the swap meet is spoiling my CP participation
Can I do a haiku for partial points?
1775
orange blossoms caress my skin
not a solofiore
Friday fun: can anyone guess what I am wearing?
Have a good weekend
I will give you extra points because I cannot guess your haiku 🙂
a hint is that 1775 is the year the perfume house came into existence.. 😉
I’m gonna guess one of the Houbigants- Quelques Fleurs or Orangers en Fleurs?
Orangers en Fleurs!
This is the first I smelled from this house
I am going to look up Quelques Fleurs..
I am enjoying it. Its sweet but not as linear as I thought it would be.
That one is a shape shifter on me. I have LOVED it, and not liked it at all… probably tested it 5 or 6 times, and each time I come to a different conclusion.
It reminds me a bit of the SL oranger perfume, fleurs ‘d oranger or something like that
I am enjoying it, when it I first sprayed it the projection was pretty big and now its quiet.
What was your conclusion(s)?
I will see how it sits when I stick my head back into the King Must Die ( I am also reading The Silence of the Girls, another greek fiction) later on when the kids are sleeping…
No conclusion. 😎 It has a split personality! When I’ve loved it, it has hearkened back to Hanbury and Nerolis of that ilk, more than the SL (I personally find the SL has too much cumin–my skin really amps up cumin). And, like Elisa, when it has not worked, it is because the clean musk stands out too much.
? I have a sample of that one but I can only wear it when it’s cold cuz it’s sweeeet! Like OF, sometimes I really like it and other times I get a huge amount of white musk that grates on me.
I recall Quelques Fleurs (Royale) also having OB but maybe more complex?
Its is sweet..but I feel very elegant today while I am wearing it. Maybe that is just my state of mind
Do you find it similar to Serge’s OdF?
I find it similar to the newer Serge formulation which has almost no cumin to my nose (the old formula was more noticeably cumin-y to me). The SL I think is a hair less sweet, but also has the issue with a dryer sheet musk in the base that is really noticeable to me at times.
Good morning and Happy FriYAY!!! This is my 12th day in a row to work, so I’m pretty stoked to get outta here for a couple of days!
Tonight when I get home I will wear Lubin Black Jade, but it’s a little too full on for my small crowded pharmacy. So for now, I’m wearing Lush I’m Home (in the solid perfume version) and smelling perfectly cozy and yummy and soft and yada yada yada!
Have a great weekend y’all!
Oh that’s a good one. You smell lovely and très Francais!
12 days! Enjoy your time off, Jada.
Twelve days in a row! You have got to be practically tap dancing to know it’s two days off when you get off.
Well, no points for me – I’m in Eau des Merveilles layered with Eau Claire des Merveilles (in the NST-approved dosages). Not an “L”, and definitely not a smallish brand, but I smell merveilleuse anyway. So glad it’s Friday!
You definitely smell wonderful!
Is that combo as good as I hear?
I think so – it’s EdM with little extra bits of fizz, powder and sweetness. Definitely worth a try if you like EdM but occasionally wish it were cuddlier.
Lubin Epidor. Yum!!!
Happy Friday, everyone!
Beautiful, I tried to find my sample just now and must have used them both up!
So I will be in Liquides Imaginaires Tumultu post bike ride.
I ordered it long ago just because I thought the name was cool!
Thank you! Tumultu is also a great perfume and as you said the name is really nice! You will smell beautiful! Enjoy your bike ride!
Thank You!
Hi all! I’m at a friend’s house in Grand Rapids after my flight home to Houston was cancelled last night due to Storm Imelda and flooding. Hoping to make it home today. My week of rural bliss with lakes and birds and animals, not to mention great food and fresh fruit, has been so relaxing. Best of all is the glorious Indian Summer weather! I don’t have any of the L perfumes. SOTD is Amouage Gold from the little samp,e I brought with me.
You smell elegant
So glad you have had a happy, relaxing break and sorry about the flight delay.
So glad it was a wonderful week!
Good to hear that you enjoyed your week! Safe travels home.
Sorry no L here! (Except for Lalique)
I had a craving for flowers, but not too frivolous or too sheer, also not too dark or too heavy.
I grabbed ‘Au delà Narcisse’, by Bruno Fazzolari
Perfect fit for weather as well.
It sunny today, 64 degrees Fahrenheit. Forecast for the whole weekend is even better with temperatures well into the 70s. But i fear that’s the last of summer, next week will be rainy and colder and it makes me sad ?
I watched Hip hop evolution on Netflix last week. Its not groundbreaking or very profound, but it offers a nice overview of the important devlopments and scenes (NYC, LA, Oakland, Atlanta, Detroit) and sometimes tries to put it in a socio-historical context (its history done ‘light’ though)
Mostly they show footage from the archives combined with short interviews(soundbites) with all the big artists. Interviews were recorded today btw.
So if you are interested in the genre you should give it a try. But dont expect thought provoking stuff. ☺️
I love hip hop and rap
Even in different languages, for instance I have been a fan of MC solaar since is jazzmatazz days
He is good! Though I am not very familiar with his own work, to be honest.
I learned from Jazzmatazz and a Tribe called quest / de la soul, that there is more to hip hop than just gangsta rap.
I am not the most hardcore or most knowledgeable fan, but I listen to stuff like Mos Def, Q-tip, Missy Elliott, De la soul, Run the jewels and Outkast.
There are lots of artists I find problematic because of their lyrics (homophobic, misogynistic) and lifestyle…but darn….sometimes I just cant help listening to Wu Tang Clan, Biggie (dumbest lyrics, great delivery), early Eminem…. They were/are so good.
I mean, I cannot even read a poem out loud decently when i have the text printed in front of me ?
Here is one of my favorites by MC Solaar
I prefer the live version, but I couldn’t find it
https://youtu.be/PjELabiPItw
I love all the artist you are listed! We should go out, smell perfume, and then listen to rap/hip hop (and maybe do some shoe and clothing shopping)
Yessss sounds good! ??
?
btw one time I discovered Drunken Tiger/Tiger JK. Its korean and I like it, even though I cant understand a word hahaha. ?Funny how that works right?
I also like Kpop!
I would love that, you smell fabulous.
Thank you! ☺️
You smell great!!!
Thank you! ?
Hi! I’m in my only L – Lolita lempicka.
It is lovely in autumn light.
Tea is green tea-lemon pie, delicious.
Baby and I are sitting waiting for a delayed DHL delivery but we would like to go to the climate change match in our park which starts in 20mins.
On the fragrance topic i find myself lusting for fragrances with a high church/Catholic scent with incense. I think i’m going to order a samp!e of CDG Avignon. I also ave always fancied Etro Messe d minuit but it seems impossible to get in the UK.
Has anyone in the UK/Europe had any experience with either of these?
Avignon is fabulous. I keep debating on if it is full bottle worthy. Poor lasting power (3 or 4 hours on skin) and I ask if it is worth the $95 off of Luckyscent. Even if I don’t get it, I have Zagorsk and Kyoto to satisfy me.
Thanks it’s good to know about the lasting power. I have problems getting some brands to stick around.
I’ll get a sample and see.I
Zagorsk does sound great as well…
Avignon is lovely, but I think I prefer both Cardinal and Eau Sacree from Heeley, and Reve d’Ossian from Oriza L. Legrand.
Thank you. I’ll look into those too!
Not that you asked for recommendations 🙂 , but I thought I’d add Bois d’Ascese by Naomi Goodsir–which a good friend of mine who is Greek, born and raised, exclaimed when she smelled it, “Why this is my old cathedral!”
You know NST-ers are always looking for a recommendation! I
It sounds lovely.
All the incense series is at Liberty, I got Etro Messe de Minuit on sale at Amazon, I think it was less than £40 but it was 2 or 3 years back, eBay has some Etro, you might save a search and wait for a good price.
Oh that is a great price. So far I’ve only seen it for £80 on notino. I think saved search is the way to go.
Thank you for the recommendation on liberty. I must’ve missed them last time I went.
I’ve only been to Liberty’s once, this past summer, but I recall it was when you enter through the smaller space full of fragrances into the main area, to your left, past the Dipthyques. Not sure this is super helpful, but I happened to try both Kyoto and Avignon there, that’s why I remember where they were located!
I’m not in Europe but have tried both Avignon and Messe de Minuit. Avignon was photorealistic church incense to me, while MdM smelled similar to Shalimar with incense added.
Have you considered the original Comme de Garcons EdP for an incense scent?
Going into work super late today instead of my normal time but get off at the same time. That’s okay with me though since I will be on vacation when I click out. I am stoked even though I am not going anywhere, just a week that I don’t have to be at work. Spending the morning in Vanilla Flash. I don’t have any perfume house that begins with the letter L so it will probably be in Mitsouko to get through work.
Yay for a week off!
I completely forgot about the Community Project! Here’s my excuse: I’d lost a decant of Penhaligon’s Elizabethan Rose a friend gave me. This morning it mysteriously showed up, so that’s what I’m wearing. It’s been a couple of hours since I applied it….not so sure I like it 🙁
We don’t have to like everything we try. A lot of the time, it’s a good thing, it means money saved for what we do love!
Absolutely true. Thanks!
Maybe there was a reason it mysteriously disappeared?
It was insecure?
Something…
Haha. It may have known I wouldn’t love it!
Is it the new Elisabethan Rose? I haven’t tried it but am curious, someone liked it on recommend me a perfume. The old ER is completely different.
I’m giving myself half points for Manoumalia (Lesnez). Trying to get up my courage to walk out of work for the climate change strike. If my 12 year old niece can do it, so can I, right?
My high school son is in SF marching with his friends. His entire school went on strike today. It makes me really happy to see the kids so engaged and passionate about their future and that of the planet!
NZ marches are on the 27th for some reason, maybe exams?
You can do it and it will feel so good to be oart of the action!
It actually felt incredibly sad! I walked around and got choked up every few minutes when I saw another child holding a sign that basically said, “help please, I’m scared for my future.” But inspiring, and I’m proud of the kids.
It was so good you were there to support them. These kids are making history
So glad you went, Regina. Choking me up too.
Lubin Korrrrrrrrigan
Making talk like a pirate day a few days longer!
I see Lubin mentioned a lot, i need to check it out some time
People may talk pirate to me anytime ? i love those words, even though I am a landlubber (i get sea sick too often and too soon)
Babassu carries the line, and in their shop in The Hague they were very easygoing about my just smelling everything. They also carry Astier de Villatte.
Thank you ☺️, good to know.
Dont know when I will be in The Hague again
I have applied for a job there, but no news yet if they want to invite me for an interview…
I’ll probably visit in October or november anyways for the Monet and the Dior exhibitions in the Gemeentemuseum. ?
Oh, I hadn’t heard about that one. It sounds tempting, Monet more so than Dior though.
Plus the Gemeentemuseum has some wonderful Weissenbruchs.
If you do start trying Lubins, please don’t forget Idole. It’s by Giacobetti, and I guess you might like it quite a bit.
Happy Friday!
1) Am in Belle Du Soir by Le Labo- this rainy day called for it! Interesting, this scent after all these years stayed a rich woody chypre scent, very dry, but now dries down to a powder.
2) More rain rain rain this weekend, which means getting braids put into my hair, Pilate classes and OKTOBERFEST.
Enjoy OKTOBERFEST! 🙂
Forgot about that one!
Lavanila Vanilla Coconut today! 🙂
I wish they’d do a vanilla coffee! Comptoir Sud Pacifique just re-issued theirs’ and I should see if they’ve upped the coffee.
me, too–I have been searching all day to purchase CSP vanille cafe online and CANNOT find it, if you have a line on where to buy, I’d be so happy to hear!
I would try again in a month, it may just not be fully distributed yet.
I am wearing Hermessence Cedre Sambac today, and drinking a cup of Shalimar tea.
Shalimar tea!
It’s so good ☺. I bought three canisters when I was in Paris last year.
You smell great!
Thanks !
I’m wearing Lubin Korrigan today from an almost-finished sample. I will probably finish it tonight. It’s really hitting the spot today – a boozy vanilla similar to Mona di Orio Vanille.
Has anyone watched The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance series on Netflix? Gosh, it’s so good! What a great cast and the puppets and set design are so impressive.
I have not seen it (and did not see the original either) but was just reading about it, it looks wonderful.
It really is wonderful. I see Netflix has also released a documentary of behind the scenes and how things were done. I will watch that when I’m finished with the series.
I remember seeing most of the original movie and thinking that it was rather dark and disturbing.
You’re right that the original movie is dark and disturbing. We watched it again right before starting the series. The series is not quite as dark and is also quite funny at times. I’ve laughed out loud while watching it.
Home from work due to illness but participating with a spritz of Lubin Blsck Jade.
Oh no! Hope you feel better soon. I didn’t read comments yesterday so don’t know if it just suddenly appeared.
Thanks hajusuuri. Lots of people in my area are sick right now. I had a routine doctor appointment recently and think I picked it up there.
Hope you feel better soon! You smell pretty, at least!
Aw, thanks Elisa.
Feel better soon, Petunia. You smell great!
Get well soon, Petunia.
I’m glad you stayed home. Get some rest and feel better! You smell wonderful ?
Sending Healing vibes to you!
Oh no! Sorry to hear that you aren’t feeling well Petunia! ?
Get well soon!
Happy Friday, all! I’m going with a People of the Labyrinths Luctor et Emergo sample for at least a couple of Ls in the names from a small niche house.
Plus, smells great 🙂
Ever smell a perfume and find that the scent does not match the publicized notes in the least? I got this sample from Pixel–blank dauber in a slick pouch labeled Edward Bess, Last Night. Maybe there was a mix-up at the distributor? Supposed to be rose, leather, and smoke. I am dreadful at identifying notes, but am getting a titch of creme brule and lemon grass…. so go figure. Guess I should stick to my day job. Speaking of which, now four days out I can speak of the near catastrophe I had on Tues.
Off topic rant, as Hajusuuri would say: Was typing away mid-morning on a 50 page document for work that was killing me, when I heard the tiniest “pffft”, and my screen went blank. However, the problem was not with my screen, it was my PC, and neither love nor money was going to bring it back to life. On top of decades of photos and work files, transcripts, book drafts, and articles, I had pages of work due this week all primed to be sent out… I had two back-up systems. One failed completely, One had all my content except the most recent–past couple of days. As it turned out, Best Buy was able to retrieve ALL the content from my hard drive before they shipped my computer back to the manufacturer… but it was days of incredible stress. My fancy new computer was only 9 months old! Am working now on a tiny laptop–BB says three weeks until I get my old computer or new computer back…
People, back up your S%#T!
Oh my! So scary! And your computer was just 9 months old. Glad you were able to get the data restored!
It was horrible!
I’m so glad you could get all your stuff back, but three weeks? Wow.
I know. I am trying to make friends with this teensy laptop.
Argh – wow, so stressful. Glad you were able to retrieve your work.
Shudder…I reckon the anxiety caused by computer meltdowns has taken years off my life that no calming perfume could ever restore. I am glad you were able to retrieve your work and good luck with the repair.
Thank you! I managed to consume an entire, huge bag of Lay’s potato chips without really registering what I was doing–so stressed was I on Wed. Feeling decidedly ill, I double-checked what I had purchased: “Fried Pickles and Ranch” flavored chips. Anyway, today I am drinking copious amounts of herbal tea and giving baleful looks to this tiny little thing my husband tells me is a computer.
I would have cried!!
Oakland, so glad you did not lose everything!!
Despite having been taught this lesson several times over I am *still* not good about back ups, so thanks for the reminder.
Also, Fried Pickles and Ranch — that made me sick just to think about it. It is nice that there are so many flavors of everything now, but then again…
I tried those last week, and ate the entire bag ? They tasted like a wan sour cream and onion with a dash of dill.
As I was shoveling them my mouth I had the fleeting thought that they tasted different . . . Apparently stress eating is not a gourmet’s delight!
Oy! But glad you got your stuff retrieved!
I know. I couldn’t tell anyone about it until I got it sorted. Agonizing.
Ugh on both the computer going belly up, and that flavor of potato chips! I have some files backed up on a thumb drive, but haven’t done it for a while. Thanks for the reminder!
Yes. Just do it. Please!
Nightmare scenario!!!
I use thumb drives pretty frequently to have backups of e-books and Word documents and such. But yes, having a computer crash when you’re working on a long document or project is a bad, bad feeling. I’ve been there. I feel your pain on that one. I’m glad the Geek Squad were able to retrieve your information.
Another day with Antonia. It’s been good to try the perfume for a few days in a week, as it’s helped me decide whether I really would want to cough up for a Puredistance. In short, it’s solidified my decision to instead buy the Mugler Supra Floral, which is enough to fill my “pretty, expensive floral” needs.
Supra Floral is a great choice…I wish I had some.
SOTD = L’Occitane Immortelle de Corse
I’m giving myself full credit since my other option was Volutes ? (I know, non-sequitur but it’s Friday)
https://www.instagram.com/p/B2o-492heC6/?igshid=pq02xadshs3p
In other news. I’ve had no takers for freebie 5mL decants from my Gucci Memoire d’une Odeur bottle. If you are an NST regular, live in the U.S. and generally have difficulty getting to a place where you can sample this, please dibs here and send me an email. I have two up for grabs!
Yum, you smell great! They should bring that one back.
Yay you for not hoarding a d/c’ed perfume!
You smell great, I love that L’Occitane.
I would like to try it, if there aren’t others with a craving for it who have gotten in touch with you. You’ve sent me samples of other things, so I figured, “Let other fragrance-loving folks have their turn.”
I’m in a small dab of Lubin Upper Ten for her to play along, though it’s a bit sweet for me on a warmish day. For not being a gourmand fan, I do enjoy this one! I think the tart grape+herby top notes make it more interesting and less edible. Otherwise it’s a (delicious) chocolatey thing.
Summer is back!
The weather is perfect! I’m enjoying it while it lasts.
This past week has been wonderful, weather-wise.
I’m wearing Laboratorio Olfattivo Decou-vert today, which is very light, but I will switch to Alambar by the same house for the evening. Found several Lubin samples I should have worn earlier in the week.
I brought almost nothing L with me to the beach, and esp. should have brought some Lubin!
Points for Liquides Imaginaires Tellus, smelling of dank earth and a bit of dung…. Better than it sounds.
Today i got my new???? Vintage Opium EdT, which i aquired in the parfumo souk for 50€. Mint condition, wrapper intact. Its from the early 90ies according to batchcode etc. Now i smell like when i was a young med student…
Oh excellent. I wish you were here. I would enjoy the flashback. I used to love sniffing and playing with the cord on the bottle of Opium that sat on my mom’s dresser, many many moons ago.
What a treat. Love Opium.
Congrats on your new bottle of Opium
Awesome find! Enjoy your treasure!
Enjoy your “new” old bottle of Opium!
I’m wearing Tawaf also. My records say I last wore it in March 2016! Today I am singing along with the voice in my head going, “A long, long time ago, I can still remember how that music used to make me smile.” It was everywhere on the radio when I had my first job as an order clerk on Seventh Avenue at Kay Windsor, “The Look You Love.” They fired me and the switchboard operator (remember those?) just short of the one-year mark when they had to start giving us benefits.
American Pie was playing in the gas station this morning. Depending on my mood, I either love it, or it makes me feel sad.
American Pie is mostly a sad song for me now. However, the Weird Al parody of it is always good for a smile.
Hey twin!!
I had never even heard of Kay Windsor (I *have* heard of switchboard operators) and boy, I would wear a few of those dresses now!
Participating in Les Parfums de Rosine, Rose Praline from the sample set. It is very nice but I prefer Majalis which I have had on my to buy list for a long time.
Rose Praline is a fun one- I went through a couple of decants a while back.
Oh yes Elisa, it’s a favorite gourmand rose, but like you I find a small quantity is enough.
FRI-nally Friday. TGIF. Waiting for my decant of Amouage Imitation Woman to be delivered, then that will be my SOTD. Have a happy day!
Do report back on how you like it…
It’s very different from an Amouage. (Gold, Dia Lyric…) not as lush as those older scents from the House. Imitation is very “grape” scented, will see how it develops. FB-worthy? Maybe. ?
Definitely FB worthy
I agree that Imitation Woman is full bottle worthy. It was immediate love for me when I tried it a couple of months ago. Very beautiful!
Would love to see the bottle in person. Amouage has the prettiest bottles.
The bottle is gorgeous, pity the scent was awful on me.
Miller Harris Wander …so fresh and green and perfect for a cool but sunny spring morning. My favourite perfume find of the year so far.
Better than the Tauer’s?
For me, yes. Wander is very short lived but lively, kind of like jumping out of bed on a sunny weekend morning and smelling the fresh air and garden. I found that most of the Tauers seemed to share a long lasting, fuzzy base and although I like them I think I would get bored after the first hour.
It sounds like the “Tauerade” base isn’t your thing.
If you get a chance, do try the new Tauer L’Air des Alpes Suisses. It really does smell like the fresh outdoors to me.
Miller Harris is so hard to find here now, it’s a shame. Glad to hear some of the newer ones are good even after she left the brand.
Wander Through the Parks is showing up heavily discounted online. Fragrance.com has it as does fragrancenet and the price is insane $66 for 100 ml. I think the newer Miller Harris releases are more readily available. If I am not mistaken even Sephora is selling them (or at least they were last I looked)
Huh — I knew the discounters had them but missed (or forgot!!) Sephora, thanks!
No points for me. Sotd is Terracotta. My only L ‘s are Lolita Lempeka and LouLou. Since its 85 degrees, neither would work. Apparently today is Jean day at work, so everyone is wearing jeans, except me. The lunch room calendar has jean day listed for oct 20, but I guess that was a misprint? Or nobody else looked at the month, idk..
Also, now im wondering how french people say jeans? Lol, Aurora?, remember to laugh with me people ?
in high school I learned it as “les blue-jeans” but that could be totally out of fashion by now. you smell wonderful! i wore Terracotta after my swim yesterday, it is hopelessly great.
Hopelessly great is right!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NWrJ1TG-HaQ
This was a big hit in Australia and NZ back in the 70s …
I love this! Most excellent ?
That’s hilarious! But an earworm I just don’t want to have ?
SERIOUSLY. It is deadly. I wonder if any of the band members survived.
Thanks Kanuka!
Ha wow, that’s awesome. ?
That is prime earworm material!!
That is a pretty great video!
You smelled fabulous today!
Hello Lillyjo, we say jeans too in French. But denim’s origin is de Nimes, ‘from Nimes’, the town of Nimes where the fabric came from.
Thanks Aurora ?
Opting for partial credit today in La Maison de la Vanille Vanille Fleurie de Tahiti, a soft oriental floral blend of bergamot, amber, fruit, cedar, ylang ylang, tonka bean, incense, and, of course, vanilla! It’s a bit sweet, slightly gourmand, a nice comfort scent for one of those weeks when everything’s gone awry.
Took the cat who broke 3 bones in her foot a couple of weeks ago to the vet today for another X-ray and to check her progress, only to find it’s not healing at all and is actually worse. A visit to a specialist was recommended; she may need to have the bones reset and pins inserted in order to heal properly. A weekend with heavy rains and possible flooding on Sunday will end this crummy week. But, like one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite folk singers says, “It’ll get better, it’ll get better, it’ll get better – I suppose.” I’m so looking forward to October!
Happy weekend to all!
Don’t you wish you could talk and esplain things to pets when they are sick or injured? Poor cat. Good luck with the rest of the month
It will be better! Hope your cat recovers soon!
Aww, poor kitty and you! I hope next week is much less crummy.
Aw poor kitty! ? Here’s to the hope that next week is better for you both.
Poor kitty! Poor you! Hope it gets better.
Thanks all for your kind thoughts. The day ended on a brighter note with supper at our favorite local fish diner -family-owned since 1951 – the next best thing to a trip to New England! I shared some leftover catfish with kitty, and she purred and trilled in my lap when I sang to her, ‘It’ll get better, it’ll get better . . . ‘
Best wishes of recovery to the kitty.
I’m Amouage Lyric Woman today. I do not wear this one enough and it is really a beautiful rose scent.
Prada infusion d’iris. Heading to the mall after work to return some online orders, looking forward to seeing what i can spray on in the perfume section!
The swapmeet made me not participate on topic – in Old Money, which has faded by now, which is fine, because I have a rehearsal tonight that is strictly scent-free due to an allergic horn player.
Question for everyone: I feel a very strong hankering to buy l’ambre des merveilles more or less blind. I really enjoyed wearing the regular merveilles last week but sometimes, I cannot handle it (headache), and I read that l’ambre is easier to wear. Does anyone have insight? Is it very sweet? I don’t often like amber heavy fragrances. Thanks!
I found L’Ambre to smell similar to the original with the addition of a caramel note. Someone here described it as a popcorn ball recently (can’t remember who!) and I thought that was pretty accurate. It’s sweet, but I wouldn’t call it *very* sweet (coming from someone with very low sweet tolerance).
thanks for that input. Hmm…popcorn ball actually makes me hesitate a little. Maybe I should do the mature thing and wait until I can just smell it in person instead of getting lured in by the evil bay deal 🙂
I remember trying L’Ambre and liking it at first. It’s been too long since I tested it on skin to remember how it behaved. I can’t wear Eau des Merveilles at all.
I’m a huge fan of the original EdM and find the L’Ambre to be a little softer and, I would say, probably less headache-inducing. It is a little sweeter but I don’t think it’s as sweet as a popcorn ball. I was surprised to find that, on me, it’s not nearly as long-lasting as the original which I can put on once and get whiffs of all day. I like the l’Ambre In the fall and the Elixir in the winter. The Elixir is my second favorite of the Merveilles and the l’Ambre my third. I also have the Claire version which, it is heretical to say here at NST, is my least favorite of them all, too pale and powdery for my liking but still a pretty scent.
Thanks for your input! I have tried all of them when passing them by in department stores but never really paid attention properly. Now where I’m not near any store that carries l’ambre, it’s a lemming, of course.
You can buy a manufacturer’s sample of L’Ambre from FragranceNet for about $2. That’s where I got mine. I’ve only worn it once, and I don’t remember it being too sweet.
I think I did this a year or two ago but ended up swapping away the sample. But: today, at one of these fragrance doscount ships in an outlet mall, I managed to try l’ambre after all. Comparing with the eau right now….
More gorgeous weather today! The cats took full advantage of it by sunbathing in the bay window this afternoon. ????
My back is doing MUCH better today, so that’s also a bonus. ?
SOTD = L’Artisan Timbuktu. No small “L” scents for me today.
I sniffed my tin of LUSH Lust and decided I wasn’t quite in the mood for that. I could swear that I have one lone Les Parfums de Rosines sample in my stash, but it utterly refuses to be found.
Oh, missed opportunity for me with Lush! I have a couple of their frags.
Sounds like the cats are very saavy; they usually have the best spot in the house. Glad your back is better today! I’ve struggled with that and sciatica, so literally I feel your pain.
Thanks Gail! It seems like cats are little furry solar cells… they take up the sun every chance they get!
I forgot that I had a couple of Le Labo samples that might have worked for today too. But Timbuktu was calling me.
I missed the entry about your back being bad, but I’m glad it’s better.
Some days I get here relatively early and read comments, some days I don’t get here until midnight, and then it feels like it’s kind of late to comment.
I read an article recently about how scientists are pretty sure that domestic cats are descended from African cats. They say that domestic cats have quite a high tolerance for heat. I guess as long as they can move away when they’ve had enough, and get water when they need it, they’re quite happy to lie in the sun for hours at a time.
One of the cats we had before the current batch used to hang out RIGHT in front of the fireplace in winter when we would light it. Her fur would get uncomfortably warm to my touch, but she was perfectly happy.
I’m so jealous of your bay window. I had one once. Smart cats !
Yes, they are smart! Sometimes they have me trained very well. Other times, not so much. ?
Hope your back is even MUCH better tomorrow. I’ve had my share of painful back times so I know what that’s like. Go easy and take care.
Thanks Laila!
You smell marvellous anyway, so glad your back is better.
I rooted through my stash and found a sample of L’Artisan Bana Banana; thunk! Partial points for me, maybe.
It wasn’t ever sweet on me (a good thing); it’s very subtle now after a couple hours. Money saved on this one.
We’re house twins for partial points! ?
I’ll take partial points.?
Scent of the afternoon: Guerlain Eau de Cologne du Coq. I liked it. It didn’t smell old-fashioned to me. Not that “old-fashioned” is a bad thing, but it takes me a bit to get used to those. Scent yesterday evening was Eau de Cologne Imperiale, and it took me a little while to get used to it.
Those are a couple of the older Guerlains that I haven’t sniffed yet. Too many other scented things competing for my attention.
I’ve had a lot of fun getting stuff from Surrender to Chance over the summer. When I mentioned Guerlain being one of the lines when they had a fairly recent line sale, nancyleandros said she’d send me samples of the Eau de Cologne Imperiale, and samples of some of the other fragrances I was wondering about. Nancy sent *quite* a variety of samples. (Thank you, Nancy!) So I’ve got a number of Guerlain samples to try now, and samples from other houses. I still have some to try from the freebiemeet, too. (Thank you, ladies!)
Maybe we can find a place to meet that’s not my house, and I can bring bags of samples with me for us to try. 🙂
I’ll email you sometime this weekend. ?
Cool. 🙂
Yay ,I’m participating! Trying a sample of Liquid Imaginaires Desert Suave. The closest thing I can compare it to is Zoologist Camel, but I haven’t done a side-by-side. I think i will do that when I get home from work.
I’m home now, I have both on, Desert Suave seems very close to a version of Camel without the camel “funk”.
Checking in late, but I wore a custom scent made for me by La Via del Profumo. Notes are patchouli, incense, cocoa and vanilla.
Oh, sounds wonderful! I ❤️ all of those notes.
