Finally, Almost-Friday, plus, Freddie Mercury’s birthday. (And a quick reminder: our next swapmeet is coming up on Saturday!) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in the best summer-weight not-churchy incense, Comme des Garçons Ouarzazate. (Ok, if you asked me another day, I might say L'Artisan Passage d'Enfer.)
Reminder: on 9/6 we're doing Best in Class...you decide the category, then wear the best.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
In the last drops of TDC Tokyo Bloom. Boring green, citrusy scent. Refreshing for the nano second it lasts. Money saved!
I hope you get to put something on that you love later!?
I will put on some Casmir later. I love that one!
But perhaps best in the “boring green short-lived” class? Anyway, sorry.
Ha! It easily classifies as one of the best in the boring category! For the short-lived category Chanel 28 La Pausa, EdT and SL A la Nuit are the winners! ?
How about 8 sprays of La Pausa? That’s my magic number ?
I usually have 10 sprays of La Pausa on clothes and it lasts a bit longer. However, I can spray the whole bottle of A la Nuit at once and 20 minutes later is totally gone!
I hope you are now wearing an “unboring” perfume.
I wore Casmir in the evening. The complete opposite of boring!
I’m in Memo Italian Leather today – best in the category of Leather With An Unusual Twist. LOVE it. When my travel spray is gone, I might have to swallow hard and spring for a FB. Argh. Okay, maybe just another travel spray. 🙂
I don’t like leather scents but I did enjoy Azuree. I have tried a lot of samples from the Memo line but not one struck me. I think you should spring for a FB or maybe do a split to make it more affordable.
Seconding the split idea. I’ve heard so much about this line of leathers. I’d be tempted to blindbuy 5-10mls. On the flip side, I’m sure splits are quite time consuming and not really enjoyable…
I’ve done “splits” as swaps, but never a split in the real sense. I don’t mind making small numbers of decants and shipping them, but the idea of figuring out the actual cost and how to monitor payments? Just not my thing. If I ever do break down and order a bottle, I’ll keep you two in mind for an ensuing swapmeet. 🙂
Repeating the reply to SheriG:
I can get 3 x 10mL travel spray set for 20% off $120 at Bergdorfs, partially offset by 8.875% NY sales tax and postage. All in including postage, each travel spray comes out to ~ $40 (vs. $65 + tax if bought individually). If you, Deva and Angela are interested, I can get it for you; however, I need to be paid by tomorrow (PayPal F&F or Amazon eGift Card to my contact addy).
I’m in! I need a leather for this fall/winter season. The absence of Cuir Ottoman is acutely felt. If it’s a go, let me know and I’ll get the money to you in the morning.
Yes do a split yes yes yes 😉

Oh, so late, but I’m in! Pretty sure I still have your email address somewhere – will email you now.
Chanel 1957
Not the best of the Exclusif line, but easy to wear
In a cute thrift store find..akris off white pants and striped blouse. I love the added detail of a small clasp they put on the bosom line..
By Killian red lippy
Kids are off..Chubby Buddha in pre pre K & crazy monkey in Kindergarten.
How does it feel having this time to yourself? Are you liking it or feeling a bit out of step? Pretty sure you smell great.
Are you enjoying the time without the kiddos?
Is it weird to be alone? I teach in a preschool and it’s our first week – lots of tears but also a lot of intrepid explorers excited to be here. Hope they had great days!
Its only a few hours!
Oh how I miss those days! Enjoy
Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady. I think this fragrance could win in a lot of categories, but I will go with “rose perfume with the strongest personality”.
That’s a good fit!
I’d nominate Rossy for that category as well!
Unfortunately, I do not remember much about Rossy, only remember that I did not like it. Many people would agree with you though.
I really liked my recent perfume counter sniff of POAL.
Best in Class of Diptyque (of the few I have sampled): Volutes EDT.
This one is very persistent on me. Just keeps going and going and going…Which is not a bad problem to have, per sé! Although I love it, there is something that starts to bother me hours into wearing it, and I’m not sad when it finally leaves me. So weird. Does this happen to anyone else?
NPN Below:
Update on the Fenty Hydrating Foundation for those interested: Was very late putting anything on my face yesterday (biked 15 mls and then was exhausted- took me an hour to get into the shower?), but wore it from about 3pm to bedtime. Stayed looking fresh and dewey the entire evening. It did oxidize a bit on me, so I went and got another sample 2 shades lighter because I will soon be losing color on chest and neck due to the high collars and long sleeves required for FALL!?? I’d say if your winters are very dry and you have normal to dry skin, give it a try. It feels very nourishing and doesn’t highlight dry patches or pores on me. I’m very smitten with it. I’m going to try with a BB tomorrow to see how it looks. Rihanna, when you gonna put me on the payroll?! ?
Yeah, girl, you need some compensation! I’m getting a couple of samples next time I’m in the big S. For now, I have this little soiree called the swapmeet to prepare for. 🙂
I was just moved to go research Casmir, because this seems right up my alley! Although it’s widely available for a good price, all I could find is 3.4 oz. Way too much. Is it anything like l’Elephant, by chance?
No, not to me. I can’t hack the elephant at all, it flattens me.
Casmir is medium to light weight, amber spicy goodness. No cumin. Hope this helps.
Good to know! If it was similar to the l’Elephant, no need to check out Casmir. If it’s in the same family but different, my lemming groweth…?
It is similar in that it focuses on fruit and spice, but it is much more sheer than L’Elephant (and has more peach).
Thanks! Would you say work/office friendly?
Yes, I think so. Nancyleandros, your take?
Deva, if you have a mailing address right now, I can certainly send you a small decant or sample.
Replying here….yes, it’s easily office friendly. I think I could go through a bottle of this, even in our short winters.
Thanks LisaD, but I’m going to track it down and give it a sniff first. ✌?
I love Casmir. It’s a warm, ambery/woody vanilla. I think the sandalwood in it figures in the drydown. Not heavily, but it’s there. It could be office-friendly, but lightly dabbed. Maybe spray on a cotton ball and dab on. Or (what I do) spray it on and wipe some off with a tissue. Then you have just enough to notice yourself (I usually spray on my chest so it wafts up to my nose), but hopefully not enough to offend anyone.
I get something similar to what Sapphire describes. Kind of in the “creme brulee” family of vanilla perfumes.
I’ll include a decant in the package…
Ack! You’re killing me with kindness! Thank You! ?
I will join you in Volutes, Deva.
Twins! ??
YEP! except for the dog and van part.
I’ll share. ?
Volutes really is so good. I will likely buy a bottle after I use up my decant.
Do you have the EDT or EDP?
Hmm I think it’s the EDP. I have a decant of one and a sample of the other and have based my love of it on the decant.
I cannot find any EDT only EDP.
Yes, I think they discontinued the EDT a while back, and the two formulations are a “bit” different.
I’m hoping to pop into our Sephora today for a sample – you enabler!
Lol! Happy to enable! Still waiting for a ? from Rihanna…
Hey, a REAL telephone!
I’m old skool like that!??
So…update: Got myself a sample from Sephora and here are the verdicts:
11 year old (not related): “It’s kind of rude to say this, but you look like an old lady that had Botox.”
11 year old daughter: “Yeah, you have an old lady’s skin tone now.”
Ouch! Maybe I need to consult a nearby 11 year old? How do YOU think it looks?
My update it this: I love the finish, botox’d old lady or not, but I’ve tried a second color that initially matched, but it oxidized again. Both colors were a neutral undertone, but one oxidized quite yellow and the lighter shade oxidized quite pink. I’m a heart broken “look like I’ve just been botox’d old lady” ☹️ Sorry it didn’t work for you. Do you think it’s a color/undertone issue, or it just doesn’t mesh well with your skin?

Ha ha!!! Looks like it isn’t just my computer that does multiple comments 😉
I gave away my Volutes (edt) for the same reason- I liked it for a few hours but then just got persistent wafts of what smelled like baby powder to me for hours and it grated on me.
Yep, I can see that. I don’t get baby powder, but do get powder. I have sent off a lot of this in swaps and such, so I don’t have a whole lot left. Plus, they discontinued the EDT version a while back, so I don’t want to end up kicking myself for sending it off. I’ll just use it infrequently. ?
Wow! Great update and I definitely qualify! Thanks Deva!
Well, the update on the updated update is that is keeps oxidizing on me. I’m sad. ☹️
Thread got so intricate I had to reply here: I think we had the same issue re. Oxidizing (I tried shade 230 I think. There was hint of oompa loompa to me, which confused me, I thought maybe I had gotten a warm shade but I saw the SA making the sample).
I liked the light weight feel of it, and that to me felt similar to the ordinary serum foundation, which I also just got (in warm, which is too yellow for me, they were out of neutral).
Lookswise, I’m not sure, but I have never really liked any foundation on me so might not be a good judge. I’m looking for that super sheer product that will make me look flawless without showcasing forehead creases and taking the color out of my face ?. Re. The Botox comment: these kids are clueless what that actually looks like and probably commented on the fact that I had covered my under eye area and they were missing my impressive under eye circles….?
Lastly: my eyes are not happy with the foundation. Stings and burns.
Holy cow! 230 was the first color I got, too! We were Oompa Loompa Twins! ?♀️
I tried 185 (neutral) and it oxidized pink-ish!?! I would say if it bothered your eyes, give it a big miss, no matter what. It feels lightweight to me, but the coverage is quite high. It sounds like you’re looking for something a bit more sheer anyway. Sorry it didn’t work for you. I may try one more shade and see how it goes, because I love the finish. ✌️
Hi everyone!
I’m back from my long weekend visiting my friends in Dallas, feeling rested and refreshed. Of course, I found a bit of perfume while I was there….
I’m in Dzing! today, from round-cap bottle I found still in the box. This perfume is amazing, perfectly balanced.
I also found a bottle of Talisman EdP, Missoni Acqua (a lovely white floral that’s wildly expensive on eBay for some reason), and another mostly full bottle of L’Feu d’Issey. Swoon! I found that last one in an antique mall for… $8! Just when I think I’m becoming jaded, I find something that makes my heart beat faster.
Congrats on that lovely perfume haul! Was it still hot in Dallas?
So hot! The nights weren’t as bad as Houston but we had lots of walking on our agenda.
Kudos on the Dzing! find. I had to google for images of the round capped bottles; I didn’t know they existed.
They aren’t too old considering the brand itself is from the 70’s, but it was before the IFRA reformulations hit. I don’t know if Dzing! was changed but it smells right to this nonexpert.
You smell GREAT!
Thank you! I’ve always liked Dzing but never felt like splurging on it. This one was kind of hidden so it felt special.
I have a round top BUB of Dzing, Coumarin. And no one is getting their mitts on it.
I really miss the L’Artisan boutiques and the one at Henri Bendel.
I haven’t been a perfume fan long enough to remember the round caps personally; Dzongkha was one of my very first post-NST perfume was Dzongkha, which I think was the first new one after the change in packaging. Suffice to say, I was very excited to find a whole trove of those round cap bottles!
You always find the best stuff!
Searching for perfumes is definitely one of my hobbies!
Feu d’Issey for 8 freaking dollars!!!!
I know!! Of all the perfumes I could have found in that small town antique mall, that was the last one I would have guessed.
I’m going to start calling you Magic Man??
Haha, not quite accurate! I sort through a lot of duds.
Seriously, you should have one of those reality TV shows. “The Perfume Finder”. ?
Your voice to a channel’s ears! 😉 Seriously though, there’s a real sense of drama walking into a store for the first time. I love it.
I’m in Casmir on the left arm and Geisha Noire on the right, both for the first time. There’s a definite advantage to going through every.single.decant.and.sample.you.have. You find all sorts of things!
Casmir is lovely and I’d like to have more. The Geisha is making me sneeze, but I’ll stick with it and see if it calms down.
In other news, the pupster got hold of a cicada in the yard yesterday evening. It was still alive. She had a very funny look on her face when she realized the thing in her mouth was BUZZING. “Mama! What do I do now??!
Hahaha! When I was a kid our dog LOVED catching cicadas. And carrying them around buzzing in her mouth. We learned to listen first before letting her back in the house.
LOL, love the punchline! Did she ever swallow one and did it make her sick?
we had a cat who swallowed a bee – while she was outside under supervision.
That was a very expensive weekend.
Our dog caught bees too, and tried carrying them around. Poor pup had a swollen nose at least once a year (sweet, but not too bright).
Oh, no! We always remember those events.
Oh probably. She ate anything.
Ah, the thrill of the chase! But what do you do with in when you catch it? ? Dogs…I’ve heard a lot of good things about Casmir!
Hahaha I always thing it’s so funny when pups chase bugs and actually catch them- then don’t know what to do!
Haven’t sniffed Casmir but LOVE Geisha Noire!
I got a good laugh from the puppy/cicada story! It’s been a banner year for them in my area (cicadas).
Nancyleandros, I would be more than happy to send you some Casmir! Just email me at pkwisdom in the yahooland.
That’s super sweet of you, madtowngirl! I think I’ll try to swap for it this weekend, otherwise I’d take you up on your offer. ?
Good morning Y’all…..
Decided on Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au Thé Bleu this morning because the bottle matches my shirt….That’s how my brain works sometimes!
This lovely scent is one of the best in class for tea frags, AND frosted glass blue bottles….. 🙂
You smell fantastic, Jada! My favorite tea scent, for sure!
You smell great today!
Solstice Scents Estate Vanilla…I could really use a vanilla pod emoji ?
Trying to picture it – sadly, I’m afraid it might look a bit like the poop emoji.
?
I’ll be back to read the comments later, I’m late for my weekly lunch out with mom. Wearing Commes des Garcons original edt today as my best in class spice perfume. Of course as this is a favorite category, that spot may be reassigned on another day (and Robin, you smell marvelous in either of those lightweight incenses!) Hagd, all.
And of course you smell marvelous too! Have a great lunch.
bon appétit
you smell fab, ringthing!!
that was a gateway scent for me along with Chinatown which never fails to bring a smile to me face when I apply it.
I love Freddie Mercury! I am spending the morning in vintage BaV. It is the first day of the week that I don’t have to be anywhere and do a damn thing. I ought to be getting my clothes back into drawers so I can get to my perfume collection but I don’t want to do it.
I say enjoy doing nothing all day!?
We saw his house in Zanzibar when we were there in June.
In Prelude to Love, and must be anosmic to much of it. This one gets a lot of love here. This one went on like an elegant, not overly sweet neroli with citrus that includes some of the peel… but then poof! Reapplied, and it is back… but for how long?
Random additional unrelated thoughts–the name reminded me of the play Prelude to a Kiss, which I saw at the Helen Hays Theater in New York in the early 90s, and totally loved. Looking it up now, I see that it was also made into a movie with Meg Ryan. I just watched the trailer, which looks very cheesy. But the play was so good, I’m going to try to track down a way to stream the flick.
I hope you are feeling better. It sounds like you have been having a dreadful time.
I have a vague memory of the movie. I wasn’t aware it was a play.
I’m testing a sample of Nawab of Oudh (Ormonde Jayne). I really love it so far and I’m going to nominate it for “best perfume with oudh in the name that doesn’t smell like oudh to me”.
Nice category!
Ah, I think I have a travel spray of this!
I was wearing Iris silver mist, best in class iris of course, it’s worn off now, so will choose something else..maybe Kurbside violet- best wierd violet?
Indeed, Kerbside is a very weird violet.
Plus, best smelling fragrance inspired by the kurbside 🙂
Great choices! I haven’t worn KV for a long time; thanks for the reminder. I happen to love ISM.
Recieved a beautiful sample package from hajasuuri so I went a little wild spraying Iris Ukiyoe. I wouldn’t call it a best in class iris, but the cool wispyness is working for the summer to fall transition.
Anyone here seen Russian Doll? Every Thursday I remember that line where she cracks up when someone tries to make plans for the coming Thursday, cuz she’s not gonna make it that long. “Thursday! What a concept!”
Loved Russian Doll! Binged that in a snap. Looking forward to S2 whenever it comes out.
I loved it so much I couldn’t wait so just watched it again. Plus, picked up a lot of small details the second time.
Oh hey twin!
I still need to watch Russian Doll. Too many interesting shows, too little time. I’m currently watching season 2 of Dark and season 3 of Glow.
I loooove Glow!
We’ve only got a few episodes left. I’ll be sad to wait another year for more.
I also watch Dark at the moment. Really good
Isn’t it?! I’m very pleased that so far season two is holding its own to a pretty much perfect first season.
I freaking love that show. It has some really brilliant unique stuff in it.
No CP points today in Bergamote 22. Another long drive with the boss today, so going with inoffensive. Yesterday was l’Elephant, inspired by the Wildlife day, though never got around to posting.
Not familiar with your scent for today but I do know you smelled great yesterday!!
Pixie Dust, Demeter
I smelled this lately, it smells like pixie styx! Really fun!
I really just wanted to wear Iris Ukiyoe because it’s a pretty, office friendly no brainer for a warm day like today, though it’s cold in my office. I think it could be best in class for pretty perfumes. It manages to be simple but not boring.
I’m kind of sad to look at the forecast and see the temps start dropping this weekend only because it means summer dress season is almost over. I’ve only started to regularly wear skirts and dresses a year or two ago and feel like I have a lot of catching up to do because I’m so comfortable when I wear them. At least I can wear tights with some of my dresses to transition into fall.
Oh, and my Indigo Perfumery order should be arriving today! I’m planning to try Bengale Rouge tonight.
I just started wearing skirts and dresses about 5 years ago. I had no idea I could be so comfortable! Can’t wear them in the winter though. It’s warmth before beauty or comfort, lol
I LOVE dresses and skirts. I find them so comfy usually and also, particularly with dresses, I don’t have to match two pieces of clothes together. Yes, I’m lazy! ?
I have been a dress (and occasional skirt) wearer for years. Nothing easier than popping on a dress. In the winter I add tights and boots.
I love dresses too. No need to coordinate clothing. Just tights and ready to go..
2 thumbs up for Bengale Rouge. I can’t wait to hear what you think. I fb’d it immediately after I put on my first 3 drops.
Ooh do tell about Bengale Rouge. I have a “sample” partial bottle coming my way ?
Currently testing DSH Vanilla Bourbon, which is a very nice, but not quite perfect spicy winter vanilla, (I now need to try the Estate Vanilla mentioned elsewhere in this thread); BPAl Anteros, which went on interesting, and became a insistent, annoying scrubber; Fueguia 1833 Bibiloteca de Babel, a cedary dusty incense which I really enjoy, and am coming to feel may be FB worthy, and Orlov Blue Lili, which I hadn’t really worn at all before, and which is lingering nicely with changes on my arm – was mostly rose, now is mostly something else floral (lily???). If it wasn’t sort of drowned out by the resideual Anteros stuck on the sleeve of my sweater, I might have a better idea of what it is. I will definitely give this it’s own full from the sample wearing, to see what’s what with it. 🙂 None qualify for a best in class pin, unless we are giving pins for most annoying scrubber?
I loved the Biblioteca de Babel as well!
It is just nicely satisfying, isn’t it? Some perfumes are so well balanced, so that every stage is excellent. This is like that – every time I sniff, I have that “oh, this is nice” reaction. No mis-steps, no blanks spots, no boring interludes of “yep, still there…” 🙂
I’ll have to try that Fueguia. And I think Mona di Orio Vanille is my favorite spicy winter vanilla.
My newest vanilla love is TF Vanille Fatale. It is a fantastic spicy vanilla.
Wearing today’s decant month of Vanille Insensée. Not really a vanilla fan, but this one isn’t too cookie-like.
I’m in Amouage Beloved from my recent purchase of manufacturer’s samples. I haven’t tried this one before and I am totally SMITTEN! Gosh it’s gorgeous. Mmmmm. I smell pretty. Might have to go somewhere fancier than just to Petsmart for cat food. 😉
Your cats would disagree – shopping for their food is the ONLY place to wear expensive and gorgeous perfume.
Yes!!!!
They probably think we should not spend on perfume at all. Just buy cat food, treats and other stuff for them. 😀
Good to know. I ordered a sample yesterday (along with 1957, Mogador and Precious One samples) remembering a lot positive reviews here. Even if I do not like it, testing it will definitley be an interesting experience.
That sounds beautiful, I would love to try this line but I don’t know where to begin?!!
Beloved is gorgeous!
Seconding this.
3rding this
You smell fantastic! Beloved is stunning!
Osmanthus Interdite for me today just because it’s pretty, cheery, and good for the ever-present summer weather here in NM- and that’s what I needed!
Handyman here this morning fixing minor things that were on the inspection report from our house sale. Car hauler coming to pick up my car at noon, and a goodbye dinner with some of our best friends here in Albuquerque. Going to be a busy day, y’all!
Good luck finishing all the details!
Best of luck with the final details! I hope you can enjoy your evening!
Lanvin Arpege and English breakfast tea
Ahh, you smell great!
SOTD is Cristalle EdT. I know it’s a ‘Best Of’ for many of you but it’s never quite clicked for me; I much prefer Cristalle Eau Verte. But I’m giving it one more try, and liking it better today. Perhaps it is growing on me….?
Even if it’s not quite your cup of tea (cup of bergamot? oakmoss?), I think you smell great today. 🙂
I’m in the ‘loves Cristalle edt” camp–never sniffed the Eau Vert, but why mess with perfection?
Hey, how’s Mr. Pixel’s arm recovering? I was thinking about the fire you mentioned recently and am wondering if he’s jonesing for the VFD.
The most recent surgery has made a big difference, he has a lot more range of motion. Physical therapy 3 times a week, really intense, they are trying to make sure that new scar tissue doesn’t get a chance to form & obstruct the motion again.
Yeah he sure wishes he could get back to firefighting! He’s been stuck on desk duty for a year now. Not his favorite thing.
Three times a week?! Hat tipping. But I am so sorry this thing has dragged on so long for him. Grrrrr!
Wow, I’ll hat tip as well. Three times a week is a bunch, and add to that the “homework “ exercises they always add to the mix. I hope his recovery continues to go well. ?
I prefer the Eau Verte too, and on me it lasts much longer than the original does.
I went to the dentist today and go back in 2 weeks to get some work done. Funny thing though… I think my lady dentist officially pawned me off on the man dentist (I only mention gender to differentiate which dentist is which) things have been a little tense between lady dentist and me since the rude dental hygienist incident. So today, I get there, and was asked 3 times if I wanted to see man dentist today and for the other work. I said, It didn’t matter to me, and I ended up with man dentist. I’m fine with him, but I think it was rotten and sneaky of her. I should add, my appointment today was scheduled to see her, so it wasn’t a scheduling issue. Anyway, sotd is Narciso edp white cube. Very close to best in class musk.
Probably for the best. You don’t want a dentist with a bad attitude working on your teeth!?
I wouldn’t want anyone in a mad mood working on my teeth!
I missed the rude hygienist incident, but that seems pretty unprofessional of her and probably just as well for you. Though I’d probably would’ve said no just to bother her, which probably wouldn’t bode well for my teeth, lol.
Oh I really need to try that one too!! I was just echoing ElisaP’s sentiments as I read your post. It seems like they singled you out and made you more uncomfortable in the process as well.
Good luck with your next dentist appointment. What was today, a consultation?
Went shopping through my various samples this morning. I have a tendency to get samples and then just hoard and not try…
Chose Sadanne. Which I think might be a best-in-class strawberry. Or, at least among what I have, given I have no other strawberry-forward scents. I like that it doesn’t seem that sweet and has a bit of booziness. We will see how it dries down.
In the realm of binge-watching, I am all caught up on The Good Place and ready for the final season to start toward the end of the month.
I do that with samples as well. And then, of course, are the samples with no label and it’s a complete guessing game!
Sadanne sounds interesting…strawberry is a favorite smell, especially farmers market strawberries — the real deal!
Sometimes I get samples and then it takes ages for me to try them too. Other times I try things right away.
Oh Freddie! I still miss your voice, Adam Lambert is not the same. Along the lines of dead singers, I have had a little loop in my head of departed folk singers doing their greatest hits. Who remembers Jim Croce, Steve Goodman, and Phil Ochs? Phil’s “No More Songs” is one of my favorite songs.
Perfumewise, I’m wearing Rhubarb Ecarlate and sorting stuff for Saturday’s swap. Chorus starts tonight so I needed to wear something that will be gone by this evening given their “no scent” policy.
He was before my time but I’ll never forget Jim Croce. Time In A Bottle makes me swoon.
I am lucky that my choir does not have a no scent policy, though I still try to choose something fleeting and close to skin. Rhubarb Ecarlate is a good choice for that. Our fall practices begin in two days, so I am just a little behind you.
I love Phil Ochs! Have you seen There but for Fortune? I really enjoyed that documentary.
And there is a new Linda Ronstadt movie out today that got wonderful reviews.
some say the heart is just like a wheel, when you bend it, it can’t be mended.
Errrrr…. I can only hope that now:
Good morning, America, how are you
Don’t you know me, I’m your native son
I’m the train they call The City of New Orleans
I’ll be gone five hundred miles when the day is done
replaces this dastardly loop (and it has literally been this section of the song) that’s been playing in my head for FOUR DAYS:
Totally unprepared, are you,
To face a world of men!
Timid and shy and scared, are you,
Of things beyond your kin!
You need someone older and wiser
Telling you what to do!
I am seventeen going on eighteen,
I’ll take care of you!
Show tunes can be the worst! Hope Steve G. pushes SoM out.
Arlo Guthrie?
I’m in Safran Troublant today.. cozy, rose with a vanilla-spice kick.
Has anyone tried the new Baikal Leather Intense by Nicolai?
I got a sneak peek over the summer when I visited Twisted Lily in Brooklyn. The Nicolai team was in the US (so sweet & fun to chat with!) and he gave me a small sample. I wish I could say I loved it but nope, not for me. It actually barely registered on my skin and the notes I could smell just didn’t work.
Bill wrote about it on the Baikal Leather post on NST about a day ago. Wasn’t favourable.
Dzongka! Best – name? I really like the scent but not sure how to classify it.
It smells like nothing else, right? Dzing! Strikes me in the same way.
My favorite article is still The Leather Sisters, it’s a Post here a few years ago and a Hall of Famer, hey make that Best in Class.
? 🙂
Thanks for bringing that to my attention! It’s hilarious!
My pleasure!
California Rêverie today. I have a lot to do, but zero motivation to do anything. ??
Love California Riverie- such an easy, uncomplicated and beautiful fragrance- I drained half a bottle this summer.
Dropping back in after a long stretch away – since I don’t sit at a desk, I often don’t find the time to check in. Trying to build my morning schedule a little differently to allow for a few minutes of NST reading.
Today I’m wearing Covet. For me one of the best celebrity perfumes. And one of the few perfumes my husband has ever commented on – he doesn’t have a great nose so he misses much of what I wear.
Welcome back 🙂
Fils de Dieu (best in class coconut lime?)
Scent twins. Best in class of Asian Gourmand!
Oh yes that’s perfect
I’m in Le Galion Iris today. A very pretty, classic iris with a creamy note of lily in the back.
Nice! I wore it recently!
Lonesome Rider. This is the first time I have smelled this perfume and although it is lovely it is also, somehow, very orderly. Not at all what I thought it would be, maybe because it is too polished and tidy. It made me long for Skive, my rough’n’tumble lost love. I like LR but prefer both Bapteme de Feu and Ys-Uzac Immortal Beloved, for density and spice. I think my best in class Swiss perfumer is going to be Ys-Uzac.
Tauer’s Lonestart Memories is properly smoky and outdoorsy. It’s a stunning fragrance and together with Une Rose Chyprée and Le Maroc pour Elle my favourite of his creations.
Hazel from J Hannah is the best of the random samples that I have on today
Wearing Sweet Redemption which is the best orange blossom I know.
Tea was Thé vert Provence by MF.
That IS the best orange blossom.
I am in the last few drops of Chypre Palatin, it is the BEST IN CLASS fragrance of the entire MDCI product line IMHO.
I didn’t forget about you… will address next week!
Thank You very much Hajusuuri, I would never doubt the Master ?! You are very kind.
I really needed some internal fortitude today with a smidgeon of total joy, so it called me.
These are belated things from yesterday:
I tried Jicky again yesterday evening. I was definitely getting lavender, and “Mediterranean herbs,” which I also think of as culinary herbs. 🙂 And I think something of a vanilla, too. But much more the lavender and herbs, at least from what I was getting last night. They persisted for a while, too.
And I made it to an Asian grocery and got a big container of lychee jellies. Robin and I should meet up somewhere so I can give her a few. 🙂
Also, I tried a thousand-year-old egg (not actually a thousand years old). Um — it was better than I thought it would be. I’ll have to figure out some starches and greens that go well with that flavor.
I love those lychee jellies. My Mr introduced me to them and got me addicted.
Yes, they are yummy and addictive. 🙂
Oh well done trying the thousand-year-old egg. On my culinary challenges bucket list, but I have yet to nerve myself. The original green eggs and ham?
I don’t know where Dr. Seuss got his ideas, but he certainly was imaginative. 🙂
It took me a while to work up to trying goat curry, but I really enjoyed the taste when I did, as I mentioned to Koyel one day. I got a cookbook titled Chai, Chaat and Chutney: A Street Food Journey Through India, and sometime I will borrow a friend’s kitchen and try some of the recipes. Many look interesting, and I already have a lot of the spices.
Scent of the evening: Trying Guerlain Chant d’Aromes EdT. At first I got a pretty floral fragrance. Now I’m getting more of a woody scent, but I still find it pleasant. I didn’t see a review here, but I found some on Basenotes. This isn’t vintage.
Are those the hard boiled eggs with black translucent instead of white egg white? They’re good with tomatoes and also good with both mixed in rice congee. That said though, after reading about how they’re made, I now refuse to eat them ?
Yes, the eggs with black translucent “egg white.” The yolk was a bit runny, actually, and a dark, dull green in color. Don’t tell me how they’re made. I don’t want to know. The packaging said “Lead free” and I was like, “Okay…”
I tried a salted, boiled duck egg today, which I assume has a different and less involved process. (Still don’t want to know about the thousand-year-old egg processing.) I had that with tomatoes and chicken salad. That was very good with the tomatoes.
On the sweet side, I got ice cream mochi, chocolate and red bean. I usually only find the sort of mochi that doesn’t need to be refrigerated or frozen in grocery stores. The “silky chocolate, Kyoto style” mochi ice cream is yummy. I like red bean flavoring, too. I don’t know what kind of bean it is, but I find it tasty. 🙂
Ok, not telling you. I haven’t had a salted duck egg in years and you are right, it’s very good with tomatoes!
Thank you for the information about what tastes good with the various sorts of eggs. 🙂 I cook jasmine rice sometimes, but I’ve never made congee. I’ll have to look that up. Though I rarely cook, I have cookbooks on cuisines around the world. And if I don’t have a recipe offhand, our county library has many, many shelves of cookbooks.
Those lychee jellies are dangerous for me to have in the house. I’d eat far too many in one sitting. They are too darn tasty for my own good.
Yes, yes they are. lol.
We will eventually meet up! But you will have eaten all the lychee jellies by the time I get my act together.
LOL. Odds are that I will have. I got a container of them a few months ago, and those are gone. Sometime in winter, I had a smaller container of mango jellies, and those are long gone, too.
I haven’t gotten to Longwood Gardens in some time, but I have a membership there. Maybe I could meet you around there, or at the super-Walmart. I think this year I’ve gone through Kennett Square on Route 1 more often to take the scenic route to Baltimore to visit my brother than I have to go to any public gardens!
Absolutely — I am very near Longwood. I keep meaning to get up to King of Prussia but have not managed it.
SOTD was best in classy Bottega Veneta.
Nice!
I’ve been thinking about wearing BV lately. It’s so pretty. Certainly one of the best designer scents out there. You smell lovely!
Definitely a classy scent for sure.
You smell terrific!! It could also be a Best in travel as I think i’m packing it for our girls weekend tomorrow!
Re-testing Lancome Idole on one hand and MDCI Promesse de L’aube on the other. Might spray something else later, perhaps Angelique Noire. It’s hot here, but I don’t think it would be overpowering.
Sisley Eau du Soir- the BEST in “keeps me going” category. Every time I don’t sleep well at night this little beauty gives me enough energy to function during the day:) Works better than a cup of coffee and I smell like a million bucks! He-he!
Eau du Soir is one of my loves. You smell fabulous. Hoping you sleep well this evening.
Oh, that one is heavenly. A very kind perfumista gave me a bottle of it, and I have so enjoyed it. ❤️
I’m seeing the outermost cloud bands from Hurricane Dorian today. No wind to go along with them, thankfully. It will miss NJ by a couple hundred miles, according to today’s forecast. Still, folks who are down the Shore are making preparations for tropical storm force winds and possible flooding. ?☁
SOTD = Nasomatto Nuda extrait, from the sample stash. This was rather pricey. Fortunately for me, a little goes a long way. Note to self: Do NOT overapply this one! I’d call this the best sample choice for me to try for the first time today.
You have a very nice sample stash!
The mainland got lucky with how Dorian manifested itself. There are 2 or 3 hurricanes lurking about and I hope they all cluster and cancel each other out far away from any land mass!
Thank you! That’s quite the compliment.
I saw all those tropical storms pinballing around in the Atlantic and Caribbean this afternoon. Absolutely freaking nuts.
SOTD = Andes de Venustas Oeillet Bengale
Best in Class of top heavy beautifully crafted bottles.
Have you heard about miniature horse as a therapy animal? It’s real! What would you do if your row mate has one? I think the rule is it has to be toilet trained but have you ever seen a horse with diapers? I haven’t because I am rarely exposed to horses. What if it did #1 or #2? I don’t think any amount of perfume could mask the stink. I think this whole therapy thing has gone too far!
Oh my gosh, I was just thinking about this yesterday. I was at the car service place and a lady came and sat down with a dog. I didn’t ask but assumed it was her therapy dog. The thing is… for various reasons, I get very anxious around dogs and do my best to not really get close to them. So, one persons therapy became another persons anxiety. Who has the right of way in this situation? Of course, I defered to the other lady, and went outside.
Ack, you should never suffer in silence! I’ve had people tell me they’re afraid of dogs when they see T-Rex enthusiastically aiming to meet those acquaintance, and I make sure to keep her on a short leash right next to me on a down or sit stay. Good practice for her, and helps the anxious person relax a bit.
Fortunately, most dog owners I’ve met are the same way.
I feel for you. I guess, unfortunately, the person with the therapy dog has right of way; however, I think if you end up with an allergy that interferes with breathing, you have the right of way.
Agreed.
To answer one of your questions, yes, I have seen a horse with what I would call a “poop collector”. Not a full-on diaper, though. The horses that pull carriages by Independence Hall have these slings behind their butts to collect road apples and keep them OFF the roads. ??
A ha! Thanks!
I’d love for my seat mate to have a mini horse! And I’d rather be exposed to horse poop and pee (versus people poop and pee), because at least I don’t have to worry about disease transmission. Plus, I think horse poop smells great! I realize I’m probably in the minority, but still! And if it does poop, I’m sure some on board gardener would be happy to collect it for fertilizer, right??
Oats and hay. It’s all good. ?
Eeeks!
I’m wearing what I consider to one of the best transitional season scents, Fils de Dieu. It was perfect today.
Wearing the perfect perfume for the day is always such a great feeling! ?
I really enjoy it when the temps cool down just a bit.
???
Wearing La Pausa edp tonight. Well, it’s my birthday so why not!
I kinda splurged on this after I finished my annoying project a couple weeks ago, it just arrived this week. Originally was going to get Paris-Venise as my treat, but it wasn’t available online at the time; then 2 days later it was.. Oops, I did it again.
Happy Birthday Gail and enjoy your birthday bottles! ?
Thank you Petunia! I certainly will?
Happy Scented Birthday Gail! Enjoy your goodies! ???
Thank you Jalapeno. Somehow my original reply back to you got hooped up below.
I figured with my savings from not going on holidays that I was somehow ahead of the game, perfumemath and all..
Happy Birthday Gail! I’m So glad you got both??
Thanks lillyjo! I felt a bit bad, but only for a few seconds!
If ya can’t treat yourself on your birthday, when can you? Congrats! ?
Thank you Deva! Exactly correct!
Happy Birthday!
Thank you h! I owe you many enabler pins for my Chanel addiction ??
???
Happy Birthday Gail!! Lucky you, two favorites for yourself!
Thank you Angela!
Happy Birthday Gail! You smelled fantastic!
Thank you! I have a teeeny bit of the edt left! It’s so good.
happy belated birthday Gail!
Thank you!
Thank you Jalapeno! I figured that since we didn’t go to Vegas, I actually saved money.. lol.
My hubby’s bd is next week so we usually go somewhere for both but not this year.
Jeez, not sure what happened, maybe old age is setting in.. Was supposed to be for Jalapeno above.
