We're marking World Honey Bee Day with our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your favorite honey fragrance or body product, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Happy weekend to everyone! Today all of us are honey bees.
Now, more seriously. Ever since I shared the news that I’m not going to Pitti Fragranze this year a couple of readers suggested that I treat myself to some new perfume instead.
I’ve been thinking about it for a while but it’s difficult to make a choice. I really like Memo Winter Palace, Parle Moi de Parfum Orris Tattoo and new Amouage Love Mimosa is fantastic. I can imagine having each of them in my collection. What other criteria should I consider. Also a couple of my current fragrances like Diptyque Eau des Sens will be thunked soon.
I’m wearing Parfum d’Empire Eau de Gloire. Any time I wear it, it makes me think of Mediterranean herbs and dry plants.
Beautiful choices you have on your list! I love Orris Tattoo, as you already know, but the new Amouage sounds amazing. Any of those perfume that you buy will be a fantastic addition to your collection. Please, let us know which one you finally got.
If it were me, I would lean on the Amouage. Though I haven’t sniffed it.. mimosa is great and gotta love the bottle:).
I smelled it already and it’s gorgeous. But this price…
You could always wait till it goes on discount somewhere and buy one of the other ones.
I got a sample of Winter Palace – it’s fabulous and I will be getting a FB when the Bergdorf gift card event comes around in September.
I wish we had those discounts here!
I seem to remember that you haven’t been a fan of Memo. Is this the first one you have enjoyed, or am I mis-remembering?
I’ve come around to some of them — L’eau, Tiger’s Nest and now Winter Palace. Never say never
Sometimes it’s refreshing to do something completely different — visit a new city or museum, take a short course in something you’re curious about that’s not related to your field, do some volunteer work to help others in need, read a biography or autobiography, write poetry or sketch, research your family tree, reconnect with a skill or interest that you’ve neglected in your pursuit of perfume, look up an old friend from the past, take up insight meditation, join a gym and buff up…. Just some examples — anything that uses a different part of the brain or opens your eyes and heart to a new perspective can help get you get out of the doldrums.
Ha, I should really step away from the computer and do one of these things myself! ?
Also, thanks for all you do, Nicholas! I always enjoy your comments here, and catching up on your blog from time to time.
Did autocorrent change my name from Lucas to Nicholas?
Yikes! I was going to say blame aging, but this is a problem I’ve always had.
My brain has this weird quirk of filing names in file folders and sometimes pulling out the wrong one when I’m in a hurry or distracted. As you can imagine, this is not the first time it has embarrassed me.
This happens fairly often with common one-syllable names such as Tom and Dick. Apparently, it also put lucasai and Nicholas/Nikolai in a folder for three-syllable, European names.
Too funny. For me, once I think of a name (person, perfume, anything), my brain automatically brings that up first, then it goes through the process of working out the correct name. i was talking to our admin one day and asked her to get some information on a person we worked with in another state (the only person at that time). She asked who and I said Teeny Beany and the admin knew there was no such person but before she was able to say something, she looked at me as I was working out the real name without saying it and she said OMG, I knew what you were thinking – Teeny Beany to Fava Beans to Flavia Beany to Flavia Tierney (not the person’s real name but close enough).
Do you have any of the Papillon perfumes? They are gorgeous and unique.
Nope, I don’t. I tried Tobacco Rose and Anubis but those didn’t work for me.
I don’t remember whether you like green perfumes, but I adore Dryad. Anubis didn’t suit me, although I appreciate its brilliance and beauty. I’m eager to try her new one, Bengale! I’m inclined to suggest you get yourself a special fragrance that isn’t easily available worldwide, like some of the artisan perfumes. In the US, that might be DSH Perfumes or St. Clair Scents or PK Perfumes, or Perfumology. In the EU, oh my! So many lovely choices! What about something from Cloon Keen Atelier?
SOTM Parle Moi de Parfum Tomboy Neroli 65 for a warm and sticky day running errands. Very soapy and refreshing scent. Sample thunked!
SOTE will be Chanel Paris-Deauville for an evening out with my mother having dinner and attending the Blue Men Group show.
Have a great and peaceful weekend NST!
I quite like Tomboy Neroli too!
You smell great now and will smell just as good later when you change to Deauville.
Thank you, Lucasai! ?
Hey, have fun at the show tonight with your mom! BMG is very cool.
Have a great time!!!!!
Thanks!
Oops! Somehow my comment nested in the wrong place ??
Thank you Nancy! ?
Super cool plans! Have a great time ?
Thank you, Lillyjo! ?
Hey, I hope that you enjoyed the Blue Man Group show last night!
We did, thanks! It was so much fun!
Hard to narrow down a favorite honey scent, PG Indochine is up there for sure:).?. My least fave is Miel de Bois…smelled like ferret to me. I had a ferret stay with me for a few weeks once, swear it smelled just like it! lol.
I have on Indochine today!
50 years ago today I was at Woodstock. By the time we ( my teenage boyfriend and I) got to Woodstock it was indeed a half a million strong. Country Joe and the Fish were onstage.
Any other baby boomer Nsters there?
You smell great. I am not a baby boomer but I did want to go to Woodstock 94 and wished I had somehow gone to it. Seemed like a real blast.
Wow, very cool! I was not there and really wasn’t into that kind of crowded “scene” but am sure it was an amazing experience.
Wow. That’s amazing. Too young to have gone – Gen X NSTer.
It was amazing. Sometimes I feel like Forrest Gump, I have been lucky to be in amazing places at amazing times. Not all in a good way, like Iran in the revolution which was very scary for Americans at the time, but I wouldn’t change any of it.
Wow! I was too young to go to Woodstock, though I vaguely recall seeing the photos in Life magazine. But many years later, I was in Nashville at a venue inside the Grand Ole Opry, basically a hotel bar, with colleagues on a business trip, and Country Joe was performing. I was by far the youngest person in the group, and I was wearing a red dress, which prompted him to serenade me with a song about a “pretty little girl” in a red dress. I had to be told later by my colleagues who he was, to my shame!
no shame OH!
every generation has it’s own music along with everything else!
Happy weekend, NSTers! I hope your Saturday is going swimmingly. I know you all are smelling wonderful.
I’m minty fresh in PdN L’eau Chic and having a lunch of clean-out-the-fridge stir fry. Chick peas, ground beef, zucchini, ginger, yellow squash, peas on top of riced cauliflower. Pretty yummy! ?
Sounds yummy! I did something similar with riced cauliflower recently
I may be able to ditch rice for the most part, as the cauli rice is a pretty good substitute.
Agreed
mmmm, I like minty fresh, you smell fantastic! clean-out-the-fridge is my favorite way to cook. I usually make a big green salad, next time it will be stir fry! thanks for the inspiration
Most welcome! ?
A couple drops of Aura Cacia Sandalwood (Australian) .
Purchased this @ Giant about 10 years ago for < 10 dollars.
On the current AC website- $82.32.
Has anyone tried the Starbucks Nitro Cold Brew?
Yup…isn’t it amazing how the sandalwood has gone up? I could kick myself for not buying vats of Eden Botanicals New Caledonia Sandalwood absolute which was even sweeter and richer than regular NC sandalwood. Vanilla seems to have gone the same way! It is extraordinarily expensive which is why I now make my own vanilla oil.
Yes, vanilla for baking is astronomical !
I like Sfarbucks but the nitro cold brew was too much – I had heart palpitations!
Oh boy, that almost looked like I have a potty mouth! I’m glad the boo boo was not with the “b”.
?
I actually did a double take!lol
Heart palpitations.
Sounds like my kinda coffee!
☕?
Thanks hajusuuri !
A guy in front of me at Sfarbucks got cut off the nitro – he’d ordered too many shots or the size was too big or something and he had to downgrade his order.
Then I stepped up and ordered my usual decaf latte
Seriously? I never knew cutting someone off at a coffee shop could be a thing. We all have to be protected from ourselves sometimes, I guess.
☕️ ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️
I tried the nitro cold brew and really liked it. My reference point is iced Americanos – it was fuller flavored. I am all about caffeine; when I quit smoking in 2003 I replaced it with coffee.
Thanks sistine !
Now to brave the hipsters and ‘free WiFi’ people.
?
Where I am, I don’t think you could catch a hipster at Starbucks. It’s all about the 8 oz pour-over for $6 now.
I miss the coffee days. Had to go to hot tea a couple of years ago because of stomach issues. But it has been fun to explore different teas!
My husband loves nitro cold brew. I’m not a coffee person.
Smart of you to get that sandalwood e.o. when you did, Bear! I hope that you enjoyed your coffee run despite the hipsters. ☕☕☕
Chanel fortnight continues in Coco Noire.
It didn’t get a lot of love, but I liked that one.
Agreed. Once I stopped wanting it to be Coco, I could like it for itself.
this is my first time trying it…it’s quite good
Me too, I got my bottle from a swap meet a few years ago. LOVE the bottle and like the perfume very much on it’s own terms, rather than expecting a noir version of Coco.
Does anyone know if Coco Noire was reformulated? Probably a silly question. I remember adoring it when it was first released, but when I tried it again at a counter a few months ago, it seemed quite different. Maybe my nose changed. ?
I don’t know and i am not sure which version I am trying. It’s a decant from a good friend and my guess is it’s an original bottle from when it was first released.
That would be bad news, Nancy but then Chanel does make these reformulations/updatings without advertising it (I’m still upset at their reformulating Cristalle EDP in 2012 or thereabouts). I know reviews were lukewarm for CN but I loved it and got a bottle and here again regretting we live so far apart or I would send you a decant from my 100ml bottle (sigh).
The honey scent I get the most compliments on is a Bath and Body Works Pocketbac hand sanitizer called Bee Good (discontinued). It is a honey vanilla scent.I also get compliments on the Candy Corn pocketbac they used to have.Go figure!!
Bee Good sounds yummy. My favorite Packetbac had a lemon scent! It was really great.
And my favorite was the unscented ?
lol ? very true, the unscented is good too
some of those pocketbac scents are limited edition for a good reason, they really smell weird!
If the compliments were all from men, my theory (actually my stepson’s observation about himself) is that he/they are most attracted by perfumes that remind them of candy or other sweet food.
I put on a little spray of Zoologist Elephant pre-shower but might switch to Moth later in honor of bee day (honey).
Plus, it’s my birthday! Some friends have invited both my mother and me for dinner tonight, which is very kind because it’s a project to get Mom anywhere due to her wheelchair. It’ll all be home-made Mexican!
Happy birthday!!
Happy Birthday! Enjoy!
Happy Birthday! I hope your celebration goes well. You have wonderful attentive friends.
Happy Birthday!
Hope you have a wonderful birthday!
Happy birthday ???
Have a great celebration and many happy returns.

Happy birthday, Calypso! I hope you have a wonderful evening. ?
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday! I hope you have a healthy, happy and stress-free year.
Happy birthday!
Adding my Happy Birthday wishes! What thoughtful friends you have! ??
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday Calypso!!
Ooh, sounds amazing! Happy birthday and hope the evening went well for all.
Hope it was a happy birthday! We know that it was delicious.
Happy birthday!
Happy belated birthday. I bet the food was amazing!
Hope your dinner was wonderful!
Belated Happy Birthday wishes to you Calypso! I hope that you wore a perfume that you enjoy very much to mark the occasion. ???
Hope everyone is having a great Saturday! We are en route to Philly for the week and I went with Osmanthe Yunnan.
My favorite honey is Terre de Lumiere from L’occitane. Someone mentioned Indochine which I also like. But I think honey is not a note I like in perfume.
Hermessence twins! I’m wearing Iris Ukiyoe today.
Hi twin
Enjoy Philly. We are just leaving today…. such a great town.
I’ve been neglecting to check in this week and so I missed the memo on the CP yesterday – I’m fulfilling it today with Keiko Mecheri Loukhoum. I’m, uh. EXTRA fulfilling it because my sample vial leaked all over. It counts as a honey scent, but my favorite honey perfume recently has been Prairie Nymph from Smell Bent.
I really like Prairie Nymph as well, one of top faves from Smellbent:).
Ugh, sorry about the leakage!
No scent yet… I am at the hospital to take my husband home. He finished all his Dr stuff before I even got here, so I figured we’d be home quickly. Silly me. 2 hours later we are still waiting for the discharge. Hurry up and wait….
It’s nice and cool out though, the fog has returned, yessssss. And last night I heard a screech owl… only hear them a few times a year.
You must be glad the surgery went well as he could be discharged.
Yes, I am glad the surgery went well, so he’ll be able to go home… Sometime today we hope!
Very glad things went well for your husband.
I was at the hospital this morning too! Follow up procedure for a family member, post-kidney stone. We were home hours before I expected but there was still a lot of waiting around. Hospitals are a strange experience.
I hope you are home now and are both relaxing.
We are finally home! How can it take 4 hours to discharge a patient??? Very glad to be home though.
Weekends seem to confound some staff members.
Sometimes it is staff, but more likely it’s the result of inefficient and cumbersome discharge processes that some hospital use to meet government regulations. Or it could be that the MD breezed in and said “Buh-bye!” to the patient but then never completed his/her necessary computer documention due to rounding/emergencies, etc. Sadly, nursing staff can act on any d/c order unless pharmacy, MD, PT/OT, and Case Management has done their bit….??♀️
That would be “can’t act…” ??♀️
Ugh how awful. So glad you’re home!
Ha, last time I checked my mother out she basically had a tantrum, it took so long.
Glad to hear it went well, you must be home by now.
Wearing a spritz of Slowdive. It’s quite soothing, so I wear it most often at bedtime, usually in cooler weather. Glad that I only have a 10 ml, as a little goes a long way.
I need to try that one again!
My favorite honey perfume is Journey.
I was in the usual Diamonds Violet for my day at the library, fortunately it’s a small bottle so I will soon empty it and switch to another inoffensive perfume, the nice part was that Black Vines was still present on my wrists from yesterday.
Journey is soo good. And want to try Black Vines.
Omega, yes, isn’t it, it’s a sleeper too – I know it’s not a typical Amouage and was disdained.
About Black Vines, I hope you can try it soon, on application it is challenging, on my skin an unsweet cinnamon was the main note (fortunately I like cinnamon), but it became lovely 6 hours on, the longevity is insane, it was still quite present the next day.
Cinnamon and licorice? Count me in:).
And an enabler pin goes to… Lucas!
SOTD = Parfums Dusita Splendiris
It’s a lightly sweet pillowy soft powdery vanillic Iris, so so beautiful! I bought a 7.5mL travel spray knowing fully well the premium I paid per mL — I was curious as to the packaging and it turned out to be a beautifully constructed and packaged twist up atomizer.
Yesterday, I took a whole SUV full of stuff to donate. This is after my sisters each already took a a trunk and a half full of stuff…and then there’s more and more. There were a few surprises, like a set of baby dinosaur toy figures, although methinks these were left by my nephew who used to sleep over. I think I will keep these and take a few pictures first ?. I also made arrangements for a pickup by an organization that sent a postcard indicating that a truck will be coming to the neighborhood to pick up donations on August 30 which should give me time to organize more to donate.
I will have another carful to donate this weekend although I will split it up so it doesn’t feel overwhelming!
You smell gorgeous. This reminds me that I haven’t yet reviewed Splendiris. I should do that soon!
You should! I have not seen reviews.
That perfume sounds lovely. And kudos to you for leaping into what can be a monumental and overwhelming task. Someone somewhere will appreciate your donations✌?
Once you’ve settled in, I want to send you the Pacifica and also send you the LuckyScent sample of Splendiris!
Ack! I wasn’t hinting at anything, but since you so generously offered…? Seriously, thank you, and I’ll let you know when I have address info.
No worries at all…and no hints taken.
So proud of you for how quickly you’re getting to a very hard task. I’m sure you smell lovely
Thank you. I have 2 more cars full and I know there’s more, including my own stuff. Nothing like seeing someone else’s stuff to realize one’s own foibles.
You are so very correct about that. It took me two full days to clean out two bathrooms in my folks’ house.
Two bathrooms in a 1960’s era house, and those didn’t come with big bathrooms.
I must rethink my hoarding tendencies.
I wish I’d get one of those notices. I’ve got a pile of stuff but while I know there are drop-off places somewhere around here, I don’t know where any of them are. So things are piling up in the closet.
I have a sample of that Dusita (thrown in with an ebay order from an NSTer.) Now that I know what it is, I’m more excited to try it
I know exactly where the nearest drop-off site is and I STILL have donate-ables cluttering up the closet. ?
For food (canned goods that mom liked but I didn’t), I googled “food pantry” and found one near me. As to the pick ups, I would not know there was such a thing were it not for postcards. If I were you, I would look up Big Brother Big Sisters, Lupus Foundation and United War Veterans Council which tend to have the trucks picking up, at least around here — I stopped being concerned about what really happens to the stuff I donated. For drop offs, check out Green Drop. Many churches also have thrift shops, although drop off times are very limited. And finally, if you really couldn’t tpstand it anymore, there are clothes and shoes bins behind or next to supermarkets, libraries, YMCA, etc.
I don’t know that I’ve noticed those bins around here ( which isn’t to say there aren’t any.) In the Seattle area they’re evvverywhere.
I just need to figure or where the drop off points are in this town. And the winter “coat wall”, where people drop off parkas.
Will also say that I’ve dealt with the emptying of houses, which is why I clear my stuff out on a regular basis. It’s really one of the more thoughtful things we can do for our loved ones (perfume hoard being in another category, of course
)
Congratulations on diving into what sounds like a difficult task.
Didn’t manage to post yesterday. No CP points as I spent 2+ hours in a car with my boss and didn’t think Broken Theories or Dirty Flower Factory would be good ideas. Went with Vetyverio instead.
Continuing Diptyque today with Tempo. Love it, but disappeared on me (or I’ve gone anosmic to it) in a couple hours.
Up next: 3 hours of dance class, fabric store, then car wash!
Sounds like a nice Saturday. Back in the day when I took occasional business trips, I would deliberately not sit next to my boss. It would be difficult in a car though. I hope it was a pleasant ride, assuming you did not drive.
Fortunately my boss and I get on well so it’s not awkward. He was my hiring manager at Company A, where I stayed when he moved on to Company B, then he recruited me when he moved to Company C. Another coworker of mine followed him A > B > C. I wasn’t interested in the commute at B. So, we have a long history and mutual respect. Otherwise a long drive in small car could be uncomfortable!
What kind of dance class is it? I have recently taken up tap and love it
Flamenco! It’s so. Much. Fun! Very similar to tap with respect to your feet are a percussive instrument, but otherwise very different from what I can see. As someone who did not come from a musical or, err, physically coordinated background, it’s been very challenging—in the best way.
It’s just 4 weeks until we can return to Málaga for good. I am already looking forward to catching Flamenco shows at the Peña Juan Bravo. :^)
So lucky you live there. I visited once 15 years ago and loved it
That’s so great! And I know exactly what you mean about the challenging in a good way
SotD = Iris Ukiyoe
I love this one so much, one of my early perfume loves. It has a sweetness that makes me happy. Not honey-sweet, not sugary, I guess it’s a floral sweetness. Reminds me a little of honeysuckle.
I’ll wear La Chasse aux Papillons later today, that one smells just like fresh honeysuckle flowers to my nose. Funny thing is now that I think about it Iris Ukiyoe and La Chasse seem like similar florals . . . will have to think think think some more about it, like Pooh Bear thinking about his honey pots.
Happy weekend, all you perfumed peeps!
You smell soooo good. I love Iris Ukiyoe.
thank u! Iris Ukiyoe is just so beautiful.
Someone mentioned SLLS on a blog recently — Stop, Look, Listen, and Smell your environment. It’s a way to de-stress and refocus that is taught in the military. Here’s an example from an Army veteran, but the person I heard it from was a Marine:
https://www.cnbc.com/2017/03/22/army-sniper-trick-will-help-you-stress-less-at-work.html
I found it so interesting that smell is included; I didn’t expect that at all. It doesn’t sound like the purpose is to detect hazards, but rather just to attend to a deeper part of the brain and step back from whatever is overwhelming you.
Kind of cool! I’d bet the protocol is based on psychological research rather than just trial and error, too.
I do this every day when I take the dog for walks. I make a point of looking at the sky, noticing the colors and cloud formations, listening to the wind in the trees, the texture of the ground and the trees, and any ambient smells/sounds. I also watch the dog as she sniffs and explores everything. It’s very relaxing to be focused on the present moment and environment.
That’s the great virtue of having dogs rather than cats!!
Somewhat on that note, 2 weeks ago I was in Prince Edward County, ON and there were a few storms that released the most wonderful aroma of petrichor and wet earth. It’s possible that the reason I was able to smell it so well is because I was on vacation and making a point to do so.
I love that smell.
I just posted a review of a petrichor scent I bought on our recent trip to Italy; it’s called Profumo di Pioggia. I’m loving it! My scent of the day today (Sunday).
Thanks for sharing! So interesting. I only notice myself noticing the smells in my environment when I go on a hike, and only since I fell down the rabbit hole. Before that I just… wasn’t as conscious. And in the day-to-day, unless I’m taking a moment to sniff my wrist (?) I’m just too go-go-go. Good reminder to take a pause.
I’m sniffing my way through the Rogue sample set that arrived yesterday – I’d read good things here about Chypre-Siam, and that’s my favourite so far. I’m testing Mousse Illuminée right now, and it’s very pleasant so far. Slightly incensey, I think I’d use tge word transparent.
And an update – I’d still use the word transparent, but also tenacious! It’s still quite obvious on my wrists after a shower. I’m not even sure what I mean when I say something is a bit masculine for my tastes, but this is.
I’m not always sure what I mean by too masculine either, but I know it when I smell it.
Same
I have to try Chypre Siam. I think this is the 2nd time I mentioned it…will include it as one of the free samples fromLuckyScent (if they carry this line) the next time I place an order!
Wearing Eau des Merveilles today and very happy with my choice. I really think that if I could only have one perfume, this would be my choice. Thank goodness that’s not my situation! I do love variety.
That’s a big endorsement
It would be on my short list, for sure.
My tresses are scented with SJP Stash hair elixir today. People, this might be even better than the perfume, which lands solidly on my “Top 10 Cheap Thrills” list.
Any other Stash lovers who’ve also tried this oil version?
Yes. And that oil is powerful stuff. I would get stopped on the street about it, to be complimented. But I am guessing there were others who did not feel so kindly? It is a GREAT cheap thrill. I couldn’t agree more.
It does seem to be strong – I used just a couple of drops, and the scent is very present. It could also be that the origin is closer to my nose, and tends to get wafted in front of my face as I turn my head. In any case, it feels oddly luxurious to have my hair scented. I’m no Cleopatra, but perfumed curls are more fun than I expected.
I like the oil a lot!
I mix it in with unscented body lotion.
Have a tiny pixie cut so not for hair.
But I have liked Stash since it came out.
I also like Stash but haven’t tried the oil. Putting it on the list!
Creed Millesime Imperial. This bottle smells nicer than the decant I recently ordered. Also tried the new Tom Ford Metallique, it’s a pretty scent, really vanilla, reminds me of a Christmas vanilla. Long-lasting. Also tried the new Aventus Cologne. Heavy citrus – then I sprayed the TF on top of the Creed so I didn’t experience the drydown of the Creed. I have a sample so I’ll try it another time.
MI smells so good..everyone smells so lovely today:).
Lol at “so I didn’t have to experience the drydown of Creed”
I’m one of those weirdos who adores Miel de Bois, but I’m not wearing it today for various reasons: instead I’m in a little smoosh of Lush Lust solid, which to my nose is indistinguishable from the spray (which I also have, but sometimes you just want a little breeze of Lust instead of a typhoon). There may be a little honey underneath all that spicy jasmine, but mostly it’s just the jasmine.
Count me in the weirdo club.
Participating in Honey day with a glass of honey blueberry ale (so refreshing in this heat!). Accompanied by Chinese food as requested by eldest. We are celebrating her bday today even though it is technically towards the end of the week. She drove a long trip today to come home to say good bye to her baby brother who heads off to college next weekend. She will take the middle one back to college super early tomorrow and then gear up for her work week. We had two ice cream cakes!!! One was oreo cookie for the youngest Marzipan and the other was strawberry cheesecake for the eldest Marzipan and both were delicious!
and Robin, happy early birthday to your son! I know his birthday is very close to my eldest
Forgot to mention that I am also wearing Casmir on my hand as I was reminded of it due to the Saturday question on Australian Perfume Junkies of “What is your sweetest perfume?” My goodness does this bloom beautifully in the heat!!! This is NOT just a cold weather scent! So wouldn’t you know it, eldest smelled it in the air and promptly added it to her “go back to my apartment tomorrow bag”…guess that bottle is a goner -LOL!
I’ve been doing “cold weather scents” all summer, and I am loving them in the heat. Will try Casmir tomorrow!
Honey blueberry ale sounds very tasty. I want some!
Yes, he is later this week and will almost certainly want sushi!
How lovely your eldest came home to say goodbye to your youngest, and then will drive middle child to school…I like all that. When my sisters and I were younger we didn’t always like each other enough for such activities. We do now though!
I’m happily lolling about in DSH Chinchilla, which I *think* has honey in it. I definitely get some, but maybe it’s just the power of suggestion.
We had a nice solid rain today here (just a bit northeast of Sturgis, SD), but the clouds have lingered and the cool moist air is a welcome change.
I saw my first Yellow Headed Blackbird today. A whole flock in a deep green field nearby. The yellow on the head and breast is almost neon, it so bright. They’re like flying exclamation points.
For those interested, this is where we’re at:
https://www.instagram.com/p/B1R00_kBtiM/?igshid=1emfno4jqaksn
Happy weekend to all✌?
Your note about flying exclamation points reminded me of this cat meme:
https://me.me/i/this-is-my-cat-paco-i-also-exclamation-butt-call-8cea2f3bd82049a2bfb06f31679a5de9
? Too cute!
Hehehe thanks for the laugh!
Haha!
That link was probably the funniest thing I’ve seen this week!
Definitely agree that Chinchilla has honey! To me that’s a dominant note.
Slowdive and Bee’s Bliss are my favorite honey scents. But today I went sixties: Tauer Patchouli Flash layered with HdP 1969.
Bees Bliss sounds nice for sure.
My sotd was Arielle Shoshana for a long work night. I knew it would be busy, and wanted to wear something cheerful. I did a little retail therapy yesterday and bought a travel spray of KVD Sinner from Sephora for 13 dollars. Apparently the Saint and Sinner perfumes are getting clearanced out for repackaging reasons. I also restocked my BBW lotions with a sale and coupons, I got 6 new ones for twenty dollars. I think I did pretty good. I got a couple of the fall vanillas and Ivy&Rose and White Jasmine. I’m set till spring ?
Well played, lillyjo!
I’ve always liked the BBW vanillas, especially in the lotions. Sounds like you got some great buys!
So happy for you about the retail therapy, we don’t have BBW here in the UK, on the other hand we have lots of Lush stores; I buy few body lotions because I tend to take ages to finish them, next on rotation will be a Youth Dew bl from 2 years ago, I also use a very soothing — – almost like medicine – bl made by REN, I find it great quality but it’s not really scented.
Very nicely done with the BB&W lotions!
Drinking coffee in our hotel room and packing up to head home after church here in Philly.
Beautiful wedding yesterday about an hour or so out into the countryside. Hot and humid though. Especially inside the barn where dinner was set up. The California travelers were really suffering. (I planned ahead and brought both a decorative fan and a small battery fan with me.). Bride is Ukrainian, Groom of Mexican heritage. All were musical, so it was a lovely blend of music. We sang “How Great Thou Art” in the three languages. And a mariachi band and dancers performed. A lovely celebration and nice to see old friends.
Will be Twilly again today. And maybe a refreshing spritz of Jour d’Hermes Absolue. Speaking of, Sephora has very cute mini sets of Hermès scents. I didn’t check price, but they sure were cute.
Sephora discount days coming up, not to enable or anything…
(snickers) Not enabling… hehehehe.
My cart is ready to hit purchase in the AM!
That wedding sounds amazing! :^)
This morning I have Tam Dao EDT on one wrist (sprayed) and the EDP on the other (from a dabber sample). It’s early yet, but I think I might like the EDP a tiny bit better … but I know better than to decide these things based on only half an hour’s worth of development.
Spent yesterday in Cuir d’Iris for a haircut, tree shopping (bought two adorable pygmy maples to replace some extinct hydrangeas in the back forest) and weed-pulling, and switched to Prada l’Eau Ambrée post-shower – a very fragrant all around.
That should have been “fragrant day all around”, of course. Couple hours in and the Tam Dao EDP is poofed – might just be because it was dabbed, but I’m somewhat disappointed. May need to find another bottle of the EDT (which is still going strong) before it’s too late.
Love pygmy maples…hope they look great planted!
SheriG, the last time I was at a Diptyque counter, the Tam Dao EdT was very much still there. I didn’t hear of any plans to discontinue it.
Oh thank goodness! I don’t know where my brain got the idea that the EDP was replacing the EDT.
Smelling sweet in Slowdive. Not looking forward to the week to come because Tuesday will bring another surgery. Slowdive and its other housemates always makes me feel grounded for some reason.
Sending you strength & healing for Tuesday!
Sending healing thoughts, ScentSpirit!
Good luck for the surgery.
Hope your surgery goes fine, ScentSpirit! Sending healing vibes!
Very good luck with your surgery!
Best of luck for your surgery!
Wishing you very good luck with the surgery.
ScentSpirit, here’s hoping Wednesday gets here quickly
Good luck with your surgery! ?
Hope all goes well. We’ll be thinking of you.
I’m in ELDO Fils de Dieu today. Boy, I’ve missed this! I put my wooden traveling box of perfumes in “storage” when I started traveling this summer to prevent drastic temperature swings. When I dug it out of the “garage” and lifted the lid- oh my goodness! What a delicious waft of fragrance.
The scant few times I wore perfume over the summer was always from my sample/travel sizes, which I keep next to my bed.
This time next week, I’ll be going to bed early for WORK on Monday. I don’t want to whine, but I don’t want to go back!! (Stamping my foot like a 5 year old!) ?
Will you be grounded in a brick and mortar abode?
Where will your next job be at?
Oh, I bet you don’t! I’d stamp my feet too.
My ELDO Spice Must Flow 5ml came in yesterday. The 5ml was not much more than the 2ml, so I did the “well, if I end up really liking it…” #fail. Hard no from me, as I can’t do what I perceive as strong, intense woody notes. This one will go up for swap.
It’s tricky because there are woody fragrances in my collection and plenty of others I love where woods are in the supporting notes. So it’s impossible to predict whether I will or will not hate a scent just because wood appears in the notes.
Anyhow, this ELDO stuff is STRONG. I could smell the decant (in a ziplock bag!) from a foot or two away. It’s double bagged now, in the reject box.
Might work for other folks. I couldn’t really discern any of the other notes, as my sniffer was just too overwhelmed.
Well now I’m just confused. Fragrantica doesn’t even list a wood note! And everything it lists, I like. Maybe I got the wrong decant. Maybe the Bulgarian rose is just SO INTENSE I’m interpreting it differently. I’ll have to investigate later.
For now I’m in Timbuktu. Spending the day with a scent-averse friend, so going with something she won’t object to.
Timbuktu is a perfect choice, I think.
Not wearing it today (wearing the fragrance I just reviewed on my blog, Profumo di Pioggia), but the most honeyed fragrance I own is DKNY Nectar Love. It has a photorealistic honey note, and it isn’t just a base note, either, it is present from the start, with a polleny vibe that reminds me specifically of clover blossom honey. You can smell the fruit notes but I wouldn’t characterize this as “fruity”, as they are well blended with the floral notes. The gold bottle with the little bee is very pretty. If you don’t like the smell of real honey, I would avoid this one!
Oh, I’d forgotten that one!
I did forget to post yesterday but wore Sarrasins in the morning and switched over to vintage BaV. I am about to order a few wallflower refills from Bath and Body Works since my Heirloom Apple is in stock. Today, I have a wicked craving for LADDM and that is my SOTD.
I didn’t get around to posting yesterday, but I wore Rhubarb Ecarlate when I went out for lunch and a Goodwill trip. It did not last more than 10 min on me with generous sprays, so I’ll either list it in the swap or freebie meet. I’ve been trying to be more discerning lately and add perfumes that I just like but don’t love to my swap box.
Oh, speaking of that Goodwill trip, they had a lot of perfume! I bought a barely used bottle of Imaginary Authors Memoirs of a Trespasser for $29.99. They also had Saint Julep, which I finally tried but thought smelled like a simple syrup and not much more. I sprayed Calvin Klein Eternity Summer on my hand for the SA because she was interested in that one. It took many hand washing to get off. They also had Boucheron Place Vendome that I didn’t sniff but probably should have and a large bottle of Jardin sur Le Nil for $59.99. I feel like I got caught up in the moment because while MoaT is my favorite IA, I probably only need a travel spray. Well, this means I have lots to share and swap in decants.
Yesterday, evening I wore Mona di Orio Oud from a decant I’ve had since the perfume was first released. It’s so gorgeous and definitely my favorite oud perfume. It’s smoky, rich, and has a nutty gourmand aspect in the dry down. I can still smell it on my arms this morning, so I’ll wear a perfume that fits on top of it, like Bois d’Ascese, Blackbird Targa, or maybe PG Cuir d’Iris.
That MdO sounds yummy. I tend to like her stuff, primarily because of the nutty notes (in the Musc & Vanilla at least.)
Imaginary Authors at Goodwill! I am officially astonished.
Sample Sunday here, and I’m trying Carner Barcelona Rose & Dragon. I was hoping for a lot of dragon, as I am picky about rose notes, but nooooooo. Right now it’s allllll rose. Hope it changes into something else pretty soon.
Oops forgot to mention my favorite honey perfumes, which are DSH Lush Honey from the oil essences line (not on her website anymore, but sometimes if you contact her, she can still sell older perfumes), and Kilian Back to Black. I also enjoy Tokyomilk Honey and the Moon, which has a nice honey toffee vibe.
sample Sunday too. three sprays of new Dior Spice Blend.
I like it! but I know in a few more hours.
so far it’s sheer and I was afraid it would be really heavy.
Back from volunteering at the museum and I am quite tired after all day on my feet. Spritzed some Miller Harris Tea Tonique for a pick-me-up, I purchased my bottle recently, enabler pin to Bob who advertised that TKMaxx had Miller Harris 100ml for £34.99, I also purchased Rose Silence, maybe I shouldn’t have as I have enough rose scents as it is.
Ahh, but Rose Silence is so beautiful. It’s just a pure, perfect rose to me. Enjoy it when you wear it!
Thank you Nancy for justifying my purchase, it makes me feel better. Yes, you’re absolutely right, pure rose, along with Annick Goutal Rose Absolue, Rose Silence will be my go to for a true rose scent.
Happy sunday all! Posting again to share a perfume find: was browsing in an antique/vintage store and came across a mini bottle of Krizia Teatro alla Scala. I had never heard of it but loved the art deco bottle so it went home with me for 8 bucks.
There is a good review of this perfume at Perfume Shrine. It’s a 80s spicy oriental. What sold it for me was the carnation – love that note.
Teatro alla Scala is so plush, I wear it in the winter usually. Congratulation on your bottle, what a great find.
I missed the honey day and wore Batucada yesterday… Today i finished my small used bottle of Eau de Merveilles Bleue. Thunk!!!!
I also sold my OJ Woman and my Encens Flamboyant, which i didn’t love at all.
Now i blind-ordered Calligraphy Saffron and hope this is more my style.
Today i sewed two underpants for the boyfriend (blue with small stars) and half finished a checkered shirt for him. I did a small shoulder correction on the pattern. Hope this works out okay. I never altered a sewing pattern before…
Fingers crossed you like the Saffron, I only have the Calligraphy Rose one which I like quite a bit as it’s an original take on rose, no oud and no patchouli but incense, amber and saffron.
Doing an A B test of L’Envol edp and edt today. The edp is a little too sweet for this oppressive weather. The edt is nice, and I’m wearing a honey fragrance, just a day late! ?
Hoping for better weather for you, so glad you have a good, cool honey for the heat.
No sotd for me. Super busy weekend visiting starting Friday right after work. I wore Chanel Paris-Riviera Friday and Saturday. Got home early this morning and had to go in to work for a few hours. Deadlines by Friday! I finished a huge part of my project research done today (with massive amounts of help from a co-worker); and my supervisor is also always willing to help out any way he can. He’s way more technical than I so it’s always appreciated.
My ice cream maker is on the way, thanks to those who chimed in last week with their comments. Looking forward to receiving it!
Will wear something fabulous tonight for bed, maybe Shalimar or Chanel No.19.
Looking forward to hearing what you will create with your new ice cream maker. ??
I read some of the Saturday comments, but didn’t get around to posting. Saturday afternoon I tried Caldey Island Lavender. I liked it pretty well. I’ll have to try it again to get a clearer idea of it for myself. Scent of the evening on Saturday was C.O. Bigelow Lemon perfume and lotion.
Today I went to Target. The one near me now has a pretty good selection of Pacifica perfumes and other products. I tried Himalayan Patchouli Berry and Tuscan Blood Orange. The Patchouli Berry was too strong for me, but I got a bottle of the Blood Orange. I’m not sure which of their fragrances are going to appear or disappear, so I thought I’d get that while it was there.
That Tuscan Blood Orange is also in a really nice body butter. I’ve used it in the past.
Hi! Good to know!
Getting caught up today on all the weekend’s comments today.
Yesterday I went to visit a friend who really wanted to show off her new kitten. After seeing and meeting said kitten, I can see why. It’s 3 pounds of sweet tempered fluff. Considering how soft this kitten’s coat is now, I can only imagine how plush and soft she will be as an adult cat.
This friend now has an ombre color scheme with her 3 cats. The newest one is a light grey, and the older 2 are dark grey and black respectively. The “older” cats are a little over a year old now, so there are a bunch of young ‘uns in that clowder.
Today was “try to get groceries before the weather turns” day. Mission accomplished. Not looking forward to the next 3 or 4 days of super humid yuck!
SOTD = scent of the weekend = Knize Ten.
We will be facing rough temps. Stay cool and hydrated!
You too!
Those kitties sound adorable! That will be a busy household?
They are! I’m glad that the kitties have a loving forever home with my friend.
We just invented a new perfume game (or thought we did maybe it already exists…)
Make a sentence out of perfume names and perfume names only. Like this one:
J’Adore Shalimar.
which also happens to be the name of the game…
Kiss My A** Today, Tomorrow, Always Forever.
woa! amazing but I hope this isn’t directed at me personally …
Salome good girl gone bad
Late to the party and don’t have time to read the comments at the moment, but my favorite scent with a strong honey note is DSH Chinchilla.
