The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 7 August 2019 4 Comments

Jo Malone's City Edition candles are limited edition, and each of the 8 is sold only in its namesake city. Top row: London gets Pomegranate Noir; New York gets Lime Basil Mandarin; Tokyo has English Pear & Freesia; Velvet Rose and Oud goes to Paris. Bottom row: Blackberry & Bay for Seoul; Hong Kong gets Peony & Blush Suede; Shanghai gets Wild Bluebell; and Myrrh & Tonka goes to Dubai.

This whole concept is stupid. If you’re going to “assign” namesake cities JM could have put the barest minimum attempt to at least match the city to the fragrance. Instead they seem to have randomly given scents to cities.
Why on earth would you say Shanghai is Wild Bluebell? That’s London. New York as Lime Basil? Why not HongKong? And Paris is oud? I’ve spent time in the middle east, Dubui REEKS of oud and rose oil. LOL, this whole concept is ill conceived and dumb. Oh wait…it’s Jo Malone…a company that whored themselves out years ago. Sorry, but I really hate companies who don’t even try anymore.

My guess is that they’re looking at what will (or does) sell in each area, not what scents you could retro fit to the city as an inspiration?

Super annoying concept. I hate hate hate things that are only available in a particular city.

Me too, except usually they end up being available other places too.
