Thursday scent of the day 7/25

Posted by Robin on 25 July 2019 194 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday and happy Hot Fudge Sundae Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

Another perfect July morning; I'm celebrating in Maison Francis Kurkdjian Petit Matin.

Reminder: on 7/26 we're doing Gone In Sixty Seconds...wear the shortest-lived fragrance you own. Bonus points for reapplying all day long. Suggested by pyramus.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m wearing TDC Bergamote. It fits the CP. It is pretty much a skin scent at this point and I put it on twenty minutes ago.

The trick with Divine Bergamote is to apply very liberally, than it will be detectable for much longer.
Anyway, a stunner and one of my summer favourites!

Sort of participating, by wearing a Hermessence, even though it’s typically a heavy note: Agar Ébène (oud).

I will re-apply all day long. Last better on my clothing…

I’m a broken record today in Perfumer H Orange Leaf (over a base of lavender + vetiver body oil). Orange Leaf has been one of my most-worn and most-enjoyed scents of the summer.

This is an extra-good Thursday – not only is it Farmer’s Market day, it’s also my last workday til Tuesday! Tonight I’m leaving for a camping trip on the Lake Michigan shoreline. One of my favorite places on earth.

Have fun! The forecast looks perfect for camping!
We used to live within walking distance of Lake Michigan and sometimes I miss that big lake. The smaller lakes we live by now are better (for me) for canoeing and kayaking.

Living within walking distance of Lake MI would be a dream! I live within biking distance of a different Great Lake now, but Lake MI has always had a special place in my heart. Lake Ontario is the only one I’ve never dipped my toes in. I need to change that!

I’ll be dipping my toes into Lake Ontario in a couple of weeks. Thinking of the Great Lakes as lakes requires a different mindset for me, coming from small lake land. (Looking at a body of water without seeing land in sight anywhere is only something I’ve experienced with oceans.) Swimming in them is another level of mind-bending, but apparently one can, and I plan to do so!

Hope you enjoy your trip! Having grown up surrounded by the Great Lakes, I was actually kind of underwhelmed by my first experience of the ocean – the salt made me itchy! And, unlike the ocean, I’m pretty confident that nothing in the Great Lakes is going to sting or eat me :)

Good to know LOL. I will say that I prefer pools for swimming since I’m not crazy about sharing any water with non-humans :)

          • Calypso says:
            25 July 2019 at 2:12 pm

Swimming in them can be fun but for me it has to be pretty hot to enjoy that, because their water is pretty frigid, usually!

Oh, my, how wonderful! Where exactly, if you don’t mind saying? I will be visiting my best college friends later this summer for some vacation and R&R. They have a huge old farmhouse in an apple orchard on the shores of Lake Michigan just north of Onekama and south of Frankfort. It’s my ideal place in the universe. Especially around August and September when you can get all the delicious peaches, apples, cherries, apricots, etc. that you want, along with fresh whitefish and walleye!

Lancolme Peut Etre continuing on my rose themed week. I love the name and adore the fragrance with rose, violet and seringa flowers. The seringa is not a common note and I remember how much I adored it in the sadly d/c Annick Goutal eau de Camille with seringa, ivy and honeysuckle.

later I will test Flux de Fleurs which is supposed to be very animalic.

seringa is supposed to have an odor profile similar to orange blossom or jasmine…white floral. Wonder if it’s the ivy that is giving it that herb note in Eau de Camille?

It’s even hotter today and I’m working in an old building with very wonky AC. So I’ve just put a bucket with cold water beneath my desk and am cooling myself through my cold feet. It works a treat and reminds me of John Cleese in Python where his desk would often be standing in the middle of a stream.
I’m wearing Absolue pour le Soir and it’s blooming beautifully. I applied with a very light hand as I didn’t want to overwhelm anyone.

Gosh, it is 8:45 AM in Ca and there are already nearly 50 comments. Yay for perfume folks!

Started off with a tiny spritz of Narciso edp, which turned out to be a total mistake (sometimes it just smells like straight up moth balls to me, and this AM was one of those times). Fortunately I applied very little. Course corrected with a favorite, not exactly fleeting but not a powerhouse either–Prada’s Infusion d’Oeillet.

Oh that’s interesting about LT. I usually like it! I do slightly prefer the Narciso edt on most days, but not always. I think both scents are among the great cheap thrills that are really terrific perfumes. But the names~! Oy.

I had my 2nd round job interview, while the world around me was melting (again, record breaking temps here).
    They chose the other candidate.
Oh well, that’s how the game works. I am a lil bit disappointed but not really sad or upset I was having doubts myself as well if this was a good match.

I agree, and approach interviews as an opportunity to figure out whether it’s a place I want to work. I ask tons of questions and am always trying to get a sense of how the overall business operates and what their underlying approach is.

I’ve also had the experience of my doubts growing throughout the process and I’m pretty sure that every time that happened, it came through, and I didn’t get an offer.

(The reverse is not the case, however. I’ve interviewed for jobs I really truly wanted and didn’t end up with an offer.)

Good for you for moving on. There are other places out there!

No its not easy like IT engineers/programmers, mechanics or nurses and teachers.

I work as an online communication/contentmanagement/website specialist.
On a srategic and managerial level (both project manager and team lead experience)
So its not impossible. But there is more competition. Also from freelancers. :)

So this was practice and in your gut you had doubts about a match – it sounds like a win-win. Over the weekend, I listed tona short segment on talk radio about not being chosen as the hire. Per the reporter and from what I have observed, a surprising high percentage of new hires quit within a year. It is, therefore, important to thank the hiring manager and continue to extol your virtues. Nowadays, with data points being readily available, I know of one company that searches its applicant tracking database for “silver medalist” candidates whose skills match a new vacancy. This technique had saved the company time, effort and $s in identifying qualified candidates to bring in for an interview. Good luck in your job search!

        Thank you!

Its a fascinating proces isnt it?

I sat on the other side of the table as well (the employer side) and its not always easy to make a good estimate of your candidates.

Most of the time I made decisions that turned out to be good.
But one time there was this person who turned out to be totally NOT what he seemed to be in the interview. And I was not the only person who saw him. At least 3 other co workers spoke to him. We let him go before his trial period ended…
sometimes you fake it and you just dont make it ;)

Many many years ago, I was sitting in on interviews with my manager at the time. We interviewed a guy who looked and reminded me of Anthony Perkins from Psycho. He said everything right. I told my manager I had a bad feeling about him, but she had been charmed. In the end, he was throwing shoe boxes at me, and screaming at me that I acted like his mother. I kid you not.

The U.S. has very liberal return policies and this actually makes it more expensive to do business. For me, samples are just what they are – for trial. If one caused an allergic reaction and there’s a reluctance to try anything else in the set, then it makes sense to return.

Still pretending to be at the beach. SOTD is Smell Bent St Tropez Gold. Quieter than your usual sunscreen scent but sooooo good. This is a limited edition version of St Tropez Dispenser which has ‘pure jasmine grandiflorum and nitro musks’. It’s smoother and richer than Dispenser. Here in the UK it was 38C, hot enough, further thunderstorms are expected for today, rain yesterday afternoon has already cooled the temperatures here in London so it was mercifully a short heatwave.

Good luck to all those European countries who are suffering now – I heard there could be more trouble for Notre Dame if it doesn’t cool down….. Paris is 107 degrees!! There’s been too much water absorbed in the walls from the fire control efforts and because the heat is causing it to re absorb too quickly it could cause further deterioration of wall structures! I can’t even imagine, it was heartbreaking enough to observe the first time.

My sotd is the great and powerful Dune! I smell Divine! ?✌???

Well, I guess it worked out in the end? Getting bad vibes in an interview is definitely something to pay attention to.

Yeah, I saw definite red flags.

Then not worth it even for more money! If they can’t keep their red flags hidden even in the interview, you are better off elsewhere. (But sorry!)

Sounds like it turned out okay – good on you for asking for what you’re worth!

It was hard to do, but they were asking for ALOT more work than I do now, and were being very sketchy about the pay. I figured I better tell them what I expected.

Woo hoo on Dune. The job, pfffft, it seems you were better off with the rejection!

I think you are right! It’s funny because I asked more questions than I normally would have, per your advice. I was surprised at how they glossed over so many of them!

Glad you’re ok with it; sounds like your spidey-sense kicked in to warn you! Probably is a blessing in disguise. You deserve better!

I’m in Azemour les Oranges today. Not quite right for the CP because it does last, bit it doesn’t have much sillage.

Wearing L’Air du temps, about 10 sprays. My version, sadly, is not vintage, so I treat it more like a body spray; I haven’t worn this in forever.

Surprisingly, I’m getting alot more clove tonight; don’t think I’ve picked up on this note so obviously before with this fragrance. Must be the spray volume!

It could be the carnation, but I did overspray!
