Monday scent of the day 7/15

Posted by Robin on 15 July 2019 209 Comments

It's Monday and Social Media Giving Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Annick Goutal Mandragore.

Reminder: on 7/19, wear a fragrance by Jo Loves, Jack Perfumes, Jardins D’Écrivains, Jul et Mad or Juliette Has A Gun, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter J.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Time to finish off my sample of JHAG Moon Dance. I just realized what it reminds me of: Chanel Beige.

    Good Morning..
I am in Azuree this morning
I am enjoying this sample from the freebie meet and will miss it when its gone

I am solo this morning so I went to Via Quadronno and had a cappuccino. Smelled Santal 33 in the wild there…the official perfume of NYC :)

Sporting a vintage Prada pleated skirt in baby blue that I picked up for a song and a dance at a consignment shop and it scored a compliment from a distinguished looking gentlemen at the cafe this morning.
    Ciao!

I thought about you yesterday. I was out thrifting, and found a Lauren T-shirt in turquoise, a casual summer dress and a made in the USA Vassarette brand slip for it. Also scooped up some Pyrex, which is so hard for me to resist.

      Your skirt sounds very cute!

I’m plinking my sample of La Fille de Berlin… and just not getting it, I’m afraid. It’s pretty enough, but I keep thinking it’s what a rose-flavored Jolly Rancher would smell like. Admittedly, if Jolly Rancher made a rose flavor, it would be amazing, but I will leave the perfume form for those of you that love it.

Full credit to Koenigsberg for the universal thunking scale (see the 4/6/19 poll comments) – but I just realized I’ve been using it wrong, this was a “tink”!

I got the Jolly Rancher vibe from Une Rose Vermeille. The raspberry has a mouth feel to it if that makes sense.

It makes perfect sense to me! I fear you will be disappointed though, people seem to have different reactions to it than me. Meanwhile I’ve topped mine up with a teeny drop of vintage Joy and now it’s perfect, of course.

I think half of my buying that one was for the juice color, but ultimately I couldn’t wear it- I liked to smell it for about 20 min, but found it too metallic and a bit screechy after a while and it grated on me. I ended up swapping it.

Despite the fact that Lutens was a first love in my perfume romance history, many SL perfumes eventually get screechy and/or grating on me, now. The exceptions are Douce Amere, and Sa Majeste la Rose.

SOTD is Jacomo Silences – I think it’s the only J perfume in my collection. I’m wearing a few dabs from a tiny splash bottle of some unknown vintage formulation. Dabbed, it wears quite close to the skin. In others’ experience, does it have more oomph when sprayed? (I’ve made several sample-to-FB upgrades this year, and Silences might be next)

Two small thunks yesterday! A sample of Tam Dao and a decant of Ava Luxe Orange Flower.

    Today’s tea: iced mint green.

Per Regina’s comment above, I’ve just learned that these “thunks” would be more accurately identified as a “tink” and a “clink,” respectively.

Hi friends, I’ve been busy and craving consistency lately, so I’ve been rotating among l’Artisan Parfumeur Histoire d’Orangers, Eau d’Italie Paestum Rose, and Hermes Jour d’Hermes extrait de parfum for the past week or two. I’ve nearly killed my decants of the first and third of those, and have totally emptied the second, sadly. Not feeling sufficiently inspired to figure out what I’ll wear when I empty the other two, so maybe I’ll have to get a bottle of one of the three above :) or at least another decant?

Paestum Rose is so good! One of my first niche roses but that was a long time ago and I don’t have any more. Have you tried Agent Provacateur? It’s not the same and it doesn’t have the Bertrand Duchaufour signature but it opens with a nice saffron note and has some of the same soft spiciness that PR does. I’d be happy to send you a decant if you are interested but it wouldn’t be till August.

CK One from a mini that was in a Goodwill perfume lot purchase. I haven’t tried it since it first came out and couldn’t remember how it smelled but this little bottle smells great: a little citrus, a little herbal, crisp and refreshing. I posted about it last week either on Makeupalley or here so apologies if I’m repeating myself.

Wearing Patchouli 24 and still trying to make up my mind whether I like it or really love it.

In a foul mood today. I applied for a job a couple of weeks ago and just heard I have not been selected. They couldn’t have been nicer about it than they have, but still. It is what I really want to do and now that option has disappeared.

I’ve not been applying for many jobs but this one took a long and not very pleasant preparation, a trip abroad etc.
Also, this will most likely not be offered again, so I blew it., which isn’t nice.

I’m really sorry to hear that your application didn’t result in getting the job. It must be so hard to put your heart and soul into the preparation, and have a wonderful CV and set of skills and yet learn that the fit for that particular position wasn’t quite right. It’s rotten luck but I am pretty certain you didn’t ‘blow it’.

    Hello All-

    1) Excellent and sunny weekend- dance recitals, the (in)famous Mississippi Street Fair, Bastille Day activities, and lots of feasting and drinking and dancing outside!

    2) SOTD: A Combo of BeautyPie’s Brazillian Lime/Fig Leaf/Black tea fragrance and Clean Reserve Solar Bloom. This works in sunny, warm weather but today it is overcast and so choosing to stick close. Not a bad thing!

    3) Remember, every day is Amazon Prime Day. Calm yourself.

I have one each from Jardins d’Ecrivans and Jo Loves, so I’m saving them for the end of the week. Mon-Wed I’m planning to revisit some January Scent Project samples. Started off the week with Eiderantler, which is gorgeous and might be my favorite from them. I am trying to fight a case of the Mondays. I’m planning to listen to Queen today since I watched Bohemian Rhapsody last night. The only bad part of listening to them through my headphones while at work is that I can’t sing along!

I liked it but didn’t love it. It was a pretty formulaic movie about a band (insert any band + a problem they/one of them encounter). But it was super fun because you’re getting Queen and Freddie Mercury. I thought the acting was great and I loved especially the making of the BR song. So a fun watch but not an amazing movie.

Funny, not funny, someone else with whom I travelled had the same thing so both of us had sunglasses on for as long as we can get away with wearing them. Oh, you had a broken-blood-vessel buddy?!?? (I’m hoping it was a spring or summer vacay, for all the ? wearing?) No, there’s no way to speed it up. Thankfully, it’s small and at the very outer edge of the eye, so it won’t be too bad when it starts diffusing. Then again, I could deal with it by just walking around giving everyone side eye all day!?

Thanks, Robin! It’s bleeding or a broken blood vessel under surface of the eye. It can be caused by all sorts of things—from head or eye trauma, to high blood pressure, to sneezing(!). But it’s often not clear which was the case, and you don’t even realize you have one unless you look in the mirror and see it or someone else tells you. I’ve had one before, so at least I knew not to panic this morning when I saw a random red spot in my eye. …But, yeah, it might be best to avoid looking up photos to avoid seeing the worst examples!?

Waiting to take off for Brazil. Wearing Tiger’s Nest because it seemed the nicest thing to reach for after a last minute scramble around my apartment because I’d misplaced my passport. I get two weeks vacation while my husband attends a conference

Scent of the weekend was AG Ninfeo Mio, from the sample stash.

SOTD = AG Ninfeo Mio again. Why mess with a good thing?

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
I’m inclined to keep reaching for the same scent for several days during the summer. Something about the heat makes me less interested in picking something different every day.

Yep! I’ve been doing several days stretches of wearing the same scent this summer, too. Part of it is trying to use up samples. Part of it is I seem to be less fickle about perfumes right now. Not sure why.

I wore Cristalle today but I had a lovely package waiting for me when I came home this evening. Thanks to therabbitsflower, I am now wafting Cologne du 68. Now I know what all the fuss was about!

I know what Cristalle is like, but haven’t yet come across Cologne du 68.

Odalisque today. My bottle is getting low but not sure about repurchasing. I’ve heard it’s been reformulated or tweaked. ?

It’s been a Monday for me, too. Dental appointment revealed bad news. I need a crown, plus I have an infected root canal. I really don’t like dental work, y’all. Looks like I’ll be on a no-buy for awhile.

Started out the morning in 4711 Lime&Nutmeg, thanks to the split from the lovely pixel. Worked out at the gym, came home and cleaned up, applied just the smallest dab of Dame Labdanum Doux before the appointment. Fun times!

Thanks, Aurora! Not great on the dental front, but it was a very nice fragrance day. ?

Dental work is so awful, in so many ways, I’m sorry.
Can you describe the Labdanum Doux? I’ve been very curious to how it smells.

I just used the tiniest dab, but I could detect musk, peach and some ylang. It’s not sweet, though, which is great. It’s from a sample vial, so I’ll pour it into an atomizer and try it again tomorrow.
I looked at the Fragrantica reviews, and they are mostly raves…indolic, chypre, compares to Mitsouko, etc. So I think this needs to be sprayedto get the full effect.

Boo hiss on the bad news from the dentist! That root canal sounds horrible.

The dentist recommended the endodontist who did her root canal, so I’m hoping for the best! ??

I’ll add a couple more ??! I’ve not had any issues with the root canal I had, so I’ll send my positive dental vibes your way too.

    Ineke Hothouse Flower today.

Went to Renegade craft fair yesterday. Lots of skincare, soy candles, CBD body products, no fragrance otherwise, boring jewelry (sorry I am both jaded and judgy in that quarter), and jumpsuits up the wazoo. I bought a couple cool hair chopsticks/pins.
