It's Monday and Social Media Giving Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Annick Goutal Mandragore.
Reminder: on 7/19, wear a fragrance by Jo Loves, Jack Perfumes, Jardins D’Écrivains, Jul et Mad or Juliette Has A Gun, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter J.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Time to finish off my sample of JHAG Moon Dance. I just realized what it reminds me of: Chanel Beige.
And the Chanel is the bargain 🙂
I spit my coffee out on this one, Robin!
It’s a weird world when Chanel saves you money.
Good Morning..
I am in Azuree this morning
I am enjoying this sample from the freebie meet and will miss it when its gone
I am solo this morning so I went to Via Quadronno and had a cappuccino. Smelled Santal 33 in the wild there…the official perfume of NYC 🙂
Sporting a vintage Prada pleated skirt in baby blue that I picked up for a song and a dance at a consignment shop and it scored a compliment from a distinguished looking gentlemen at the cafe this morning.
Ciao!
That skirt sounds amazing!
Wow! Sounds like your day is off to a great start!
Alas, its only for a few hours! But I am enjoying it !!
I bet you look amazing!
I thought about you yesterday. I was out thrifting, and found a Lauren T-shirt in turquoise, a casual summer dress and a made in the USA Vassarette brand slip for it. Also scooped up some Pyrex, which is so hard for me to resist.
Your skirt sounds very cute!
I’m plinking my sample of La Fille de Berlin… and just not getting it, I’m afraid. It’s pretty enough, but I keep thinking it’s what a rose-flavored Jolly Rancher would smell like. Admittedly, if Jolly Rancher made a rose flavor, it would be amazing, but I will leave the perfume form for those of you that love it.
I like your plinking. I plinked a sample yesterday too.
Full credit to Koenigsberg for the universal thunking scale (see the 4/6/19 poll comments) – but I just realized I’ve been using it wrong, this was a “tink”!
I’m so impressed that you’ve kept track of which day’s SOTD poll he wrote the scale out in!
no! google reminded me
I got the Jolly Rancher vibe from Une Rose Vermeille. The raspberry has a mouth feel to it if that makes sense.
It is funny to think of scents having mouth feel, but some of them definitely do!
Is it bad that your “rose flavored Jolly Rancher” description actually makes me want to try it?
It makes perfect sense to me! I fear you will be disappointed though, people seem to have different reactions to it than me. Meanwhile I’ve topped mine up with a teeny drop of vintage Joy and now it’s perfect, of course.
I wasn’t crazy about that one either, though I have no memory of why at this point. I *did* like the pretty red juice, though 😉
I think half of my buying that one was for the juice color, but ultimately I couldn’t wear it- I liked to smell it for about 20 min, but found it too metallic and a bit screechy after a while and it grated on me. I ended up swapping it.
Despite the fact that Lutens was a first love in my perfume romance history, many SL perfumes eventually get screechy and/or grating on me, now. The exceptions are Douce Amere, and Sa Majeste la Rose.
Sa Majeste is pretty darn lovely.
I think I posted (my own photo) of the same exact flowers on Instagram. Lovely color combo pale lavender and green are.
SOTD: 31 Rue Cambon
Boy am I overdue for a visit to Paris!
You smell SO good! Love that one..
Perfect for today’s weather too
I should dig out my sample
It’s just gorgeous out! I went out for a run early and it was 70, cool!
It was gorgeous and perfect for a run, I imagine! It’s still pretty nice out ?
I will go for a run..one day!
Do you mean the photo looks identical? If so, maybe someone stole your photo from Instagram and put it on Wikimedia?
No, not identical 😉
Gotcha. Sorry for being too literal.
You smell fabulous!
I wanted something both fresh and spicy today, so I went with Demeter Tomato.
Yay for tomato.
I’m going with the big-ish brand with a J- Jo Malone. Wood Sage and Sea Salt.
I’ll be going with that sometime this week as well. You smell super good.
Kyoto today to keep me centered. Doesn’t take much these days to knock me off kilter. Anything is an excuse to say I’m retiring when I know full well I need to work another 2.5 years.
Plus a new lipstick from Gucci.
You smell great and a Gucci lipstick sounds like a lovely treat 🙂
High five for the new Gucci lippy!
My brain processed that as “resting” instead of “retiring” … probably because I’m in similar circumstances vis-a-vis having to wait longer to retire than I want to, and being VERY tired of working. 😛
SO there, SheriG.
Have you calculated what not working the next 2.5 years will do to your Social Security $. The difference may not be large enough for you to keep doing what you would prefer not to do.
This is a good point – SS maxes out pretty early if you’ve earned a decent salary for many years.
Oh I have done all the math. I need to wait to 70 to collect SS.
Tell me about this Gucci lipstick!!!
They are all new Gucci lipsticks. Available at Gucci and Saks.
I would be able to retire if I quit doing stuff like buying lipstick and going on safari.
SOTD is Jacomo Silences – I think it’s the only J perfume in my collection. I’m wearing a few dabs from a tiny splash bottle of some unknown vintage formulation. Dabbed, it wears quite close to the skin. In others’ experience, does it have more oomph when sprayed? (I’ve made several sample-to-FB upgrades this year, and Silences might be next)
Two small thunks yesterday! A sample of Tam Dao and a decant of Ava Luxe Orange Flower.
Today’s tea: iced mint green.
Per Regina’s comment above, I’ve just learned that these “thunks” would be more accurately identified as a “tink” and a “clink,” respectively.
Oh, what happened to plink? I liked that one 😉
Your tea sounds great.
I’ve only worn Silences sprayed and it has a nice amount of oomph 🙂 your tea sounds delicious.
I discovered (while on vacation a couple of years ago) that bees apparently find vintage Silences very attractive.
Funny! I once had a bumblebee check me out while I was wearing Mugler Cologne.
And I swear I had a bee the size of my big toe push me away while I was hiking ( no fragrance, just blocking it).
Love Silences so so much.
Oh, thanks for reminding me that Silences is by Jacomo! I have a bit left in my sample… maybe that will be my SOTD this Friday.
I had the same thought although I have alternatives!
Coming back from vacation last week to…83 emails. Oh boy.
SOTD is Aura.
Ugh that’s the worst! It takes almost a whole day to get through emails. Hope it goes quickly for you.
I get about that many emails per day. I read and delete fast. 🙂
Yuck on the email avalanche.
Hi friends, I’ve been busy and craving consistency lately, so I’ve been rotating among l’Artisan Parfumeur Histoire d’Orangers, Eau d’Italie Paestum Rose, and Hermes Jour d’Hermes extrait de parfum for the past week or two. I’ve nearly killed my decants of the first and third of those, and have totally emptied the second, sadly. Not feeling sufficiently inspired to figure out what I’ll wear when I empty the other two, so maybe I’ll have to get a bottle of one of the three above 🙂 or at least another decant?
Consistency sounds nice! I have been leaning very heavily on my Terracotta this summer, and looking forward to getting Dear Polly into regular rotation.
I just looked up Dear Polly–it sounds lovely! Terracotta always felt a bit too much like sunscreen, but it certainly is a comforting summer sort of scent 🙂 Cheers to consistency!
Paestum Rose is so good! One of my first niche roses but that was a long time ago and I don’t have any more. Have you tried Agent Provacateur? It’s not the same and it doesn’t have the Bertrand Duchaufour signature but it opens with a nice saffron note and has some of the same soft spiciness that PR does. I’d be happy to send you a decant if you are interested but it wouldn’t be till August.
Thank you, ringthing! I have smelled AP, but didn’t find it quite as…special? Maybe I need to give it another sniff. I think a local friend of mine has a bottle, so I’ll bug her to let me try it on, but thank you so much for your offer; it’s very kind of you!
Hope you’re well 🙂
Waving hello!!
Hi, KellyC! I haven’t talked to you in a while 🙂 *waves* hope you’re well!
I can’t believe you have no other bottles LOL. Maybe select three others and go at it for the rest of the month?
I think that’s a great idea, and just about the maximum amount of perfume energy I’ll be able to muster 🙂
It’s nice to see you back! I’ve been thinking about you and wondering what you’ve been up to.
Thank you, trf! Things have been good, just super duper busy, mostly at work. On the upside, I feel like I’ve been taking a lot more ownership of projects and problems. I hope this is recognized by my management!
I hope your management recognizes your good work and leadership too!
Thanks, trf 🙂
Hello Koyel! Good to hear from you… I’d been wondering what you were up to. It seems like a few folks have been doing perfume consistency this summer. Something in the water, maybe? ?
Hehe. Might be! Consistency is good when life is hectic 🙂 And thanks, it’s lovely to see you here!
Woke up this morning in Chanel no 5 this morning and since I took a shower, I don’t know what to wear just yet. I forgot to post yesterday that I have finished the last few drops of my Cuir de Russie extrait. Yes, I did finish a bottle!
Congratulations on your thunk!
Whoo hoo on your bottle thunk!
Started pre-dawn with No 5 L’eau. Mid-morning am in Diptyque Oyedo.
Have been rather aimlessly scanning prime day deals. I really *did* need some fire extinguishers, though, so there’s that.
Plans for the day are to color my hair, epilate, and self-tan. We’ll see if I get to all 3…
Twins in L’eau. Enjoy your self-care day!
Sampling two from Les Indemodables today…
Rose de Jamal and Chypre Azural
Will weigh in with thoughts later.
Rose de Jamal was very nice but didn’t feel like I needed a FB. Chypre Azural was actually my favourite out of the four, loved the citrus twist in there.
I liked the Chypre Azural too. Interesting citrus and patchouli to my nose.
Rose de Jamal had an odd, sweet almost syrupy smell on me…will need to try again.
CK One from a mini that was in a Goodwill perfume lot purchase. I haven’t tried it since it first came out and couldn’t remember how it smelled but this little bottle smells great: a little citrus, a little herbal, crisp and refreshing. I posted about it last week either on Makeupalley or here so apologies if I’m repeating myself.
You smell wonderful! I loved CK One in high school. It was my purse stash EBP a year or so ago. Enjoy your goodies. ?
I don’t think I have any small J brands. Maybe I’ll just do a week of big J’s lol.
For today, though, I’m smelling good in No. 5 L’eau.
You *are* smelling good in L’eau.
J Ideas:
Jean-Paul Gaultier
Jean Couturier
Jean Patou
Jean-Charles Brosseau
Jil Sander
Jovoy
You are smelling good! I’m doing a week of big J’s too.
You smell great!
I’m wearing O de Lancome for some refreshment on another hot humid day here along the Gulf Coast.
I haven’t smelled that one is awhile. I remember loving it when I did
Excellent choice—hope it does the trick!
That’s a great one! You smell fantastic!
You smelled lovely today!
It has been truly disgusting out there today. We did get rain, so for that I’m grateful.
Wearing Patchouli 24 and still trying to make up my mind whether I like it or really love it.
In a foul mood today. I applied for a job a couple of weeks ago and just heard I have not been selected. They couldn’t have been nicer about it than they have, but still. It is what I really want to do and now that option has disappeared.
Ugh, I feel you on the job front. Looking and interviewing for a job…is a job, and it can be maddening.
I’ve not been applying for many jobs but this one took a long and not very pleasant preparation, a trip abroad etc.
Also, this will most likely not be offered again, so I blew it., which isn’t nice.
You didn’t blow it. They are just dumb. Good for you for even sticking your neck out there!?
You are very kind in saying so, but I don’t think they are. I just didn’t quite have the skills they were looking for, and which I will not be able to acquire.
I’m sorry to hear you and the job were not a perfect match, especially since it required quite a bit of effort to even apply.
So sorry austenfan!
I’m so sorry. I find applying for jobs very stressful and it sounds like this one was a doozy. I hope you can find some peace today.
I’m sorry to hear that, austenfan. I hope something equally good—however improbable or impossible that may seem—comes your way!
I’m really sorry to hear that your application didn’t result in getting the job. It must be so hard to put your heart and soul into the preparation, and have a wonderful CV and set of skills and yet learn that the fit for that particular position wasn’t quite right. It’s rotten luck but I am pretty certain you didn’t ‘blow it’.
I’m sorry to hear that your job interview was such a letdown. I figure that you had something they were interested in, though, since interviews don’t happen “just because”.
I’m sorry austenfan. Here’s hoping another opportunity comes along or your current job provides a path towards a more satisfying position!
I’m wearing Heeley”s Cocobello today to put me in a beachy state of mind even though I am at work.
Hello All-
1) Excellent and sunny weekend- dance recitals, the (in)famous Mississippi Street Fair, Bastille Day activities, and lots of feasting and drinking and dancing outside!
2) SOTD: A Combo of BeautyPie’s Brazillian Lime/Fig Leaf/Black tea fragrance and Clean Reserve Solar Bloom. This works in sunny, warm weather but today it is overcast and so choosing to stick close. Not a bad thing!
3) Remember, every day is Amazon Prime Day. Calm yourself.
Laughing at #3 … I am pretty chill about Prime Day 🙂
Hee!
When I was little this big midsummer sales were called Christmas in July!
Me too. It feels like so much work to read through all the deals. Then I get stressed out. Then I start debating buying something I don’t need. Then I think: This is Stupid. Just pay a few bucks more when you actually need something.
It is way too much work, agree!
I chose Indochine for a drizzly day today (no complaints – I love drizzle), and am getting much more woodiness from it than usual (also a good thing).
I’m going to remember that you love drizzle and send all of ours your way this fall.?
I’m wearing Josef Statkus today, a gift from a perfume friend. It’s a really nice incense/wood/flower blend right now. It’s been discontinued for a while, I guess, so I consider myself very lucky to have tried it.
Oh yes, I have a decent-sized decant of that, and I treasure it.
Arquiste Ella from a dwindling decant (evaporating???). It’s so beautiful in the heat.
I couldn’t pass that one, gave me too much association with chlorine and spandex swimsuits, lol…
I’ll take a pool party right now! ?
Wearing Lunasa by Cloon Keen Atelier today. It’s a very fresh and invigorating citrusy green perfume. Highly recommended for a casual day.
Wearing No.5 L’eau today. Apparently, I will be spending my whole day off on hold with AT&T.
It’s a shame there’s no option for you to have them call you back!
Well there is, but it’s a next day call back, and I work tomorrow. I ended up hanging up after 45 minutes. I’m about to try again.
Oh man, I feel your pain.? Almost as bad as live chatting with them. I was doing that once and finally just said “I’m going now. You haven’t helped me at all.” Lol
Hope you have better luck than I did!?
I did the same thing last week, then they sent me an email saying they really really want to help me, and to please call back. Lol
At least you smell good..
The motto of my life!?
You smell fantastic. Hope you’re not still on hold now!
I finally got through, only to be told they still couldn’t help me.
Oh no! That’s just awful.
?
That sounds like horrible customer service all around. Are you stuck with them, or do you have another option?
I have one each from Jardins d’Ecrivans and Jo Loves, so I’m saving them for the end of the week. Mon-Wed I’m planning to revisit some January Scent Project samples. Started off the week with Eiderantler, which is gorgeous and might be my favorite from them. I am trying to fight a case of the Mondays. I’m planning to listen to Queen today since I watched Bohemian Rhapsody last night. The only bad part of listening to them through my headphones while at work is that I can’t sing along!
I had the Mondays all day, BAD.
Did you love BR? I still have not seen it.
I liked it but didn’t love it. It was a pretty formulaic movie about a band (insert any band + a problem they/one of them encounter). But it was super fun because you’re getting Queen and Freddie Mercury. I thought the acting was great and I loved especially the making of the BR song. So a fun watch but not an amazing movie.
Thank you — I was feeling bad about not seeing it in a theater, but I think that has convinced me to let myself wait for Netflix 🙂
FYI for those in the DC area:
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/diy-workshop-intro-to-plant-based-perfumery-how-to-compose-your-custom-scent-tickets-64634489498?aff=erelconmlt
It’s interesting to see something like this happening in DC. I am not affiliated with this in any way and don’t know how good it would be. Please comment if you do.
Also FYI, Eventbrite suggested this to me as I was signing up for a September event with the Ormonde Jayne founder. There is also an August (IIRC) event with someone from Olfactive Studio.
Yes, I got an email that Ormonde Jayne founder Linda Pilkington will be visiting Arielle Shoshanna.
I am very tempted…it may be late enough for me to get there by train and end early enough for me to catch a train back.
Wearing Henri Bendel Pink Grapefruit & Vetiver. Discontinued scent that I have always liked for summer. More pink grapefruit than vetiver. Fresh, tart and light.
Doing the Prime Day dance….
Enjoy your shopping 🙂
Good Afternoon NSTers!
I took a break from posting on the blog ( still read it sometimes) only to return and ask for HELP! I am desperately in need of a large decant (about 20 mls) of Profumum Roma Aqua Viva – just finished today a laaarge sample from Hajusuuri (waiving to our generous enabler!!!) and having withdrawal symptoms. The best lemon scent ever! If anyone is willing to sell a decant of AV please e-mail me at lasto4ka5@gmail.com
Thanks!
Getting on this bandwagon as I’d be up for a split as well ?
It comes in a travel size–I got mine at Fumerie here in Portland.
Fumerie is great! (No affiliation). I placed an order on a weekend, got tracking info within a couple of hours after ordering! My first time shopping with them.
I’m enjoying comparing Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile edt vs edp today. I discovered last week that I was not in love with the far drydown of the edt, but despite that I might prefer it to the edp. Kinda maybe. They’re both lovely!
I never got the chance to try the edt, and I like the edp, but something in it is unsettling to me. I have enjoyed it on others, though.
I’m firmly in the EdT camp, although that’s pointless now since they don’t make it anymore!
I retested Twilly today with an unearthed sample, and I also revisited Robin’s review. I pretty much agree; I’m interested for about 15 minutes, and then it’s just pleasant. Sweeter than I remembered.
I switch to Samsara because I was bored, and Samara is never boring!
Agree! on both accounts!
Gosh, I love Samsara. You smell fab!
Samsara is wonderful.
I liked Twilly but was shocked at how quickly it became a skin scent on me. And I have scent-glue skin!
If only we could trade! It lasts pretty well on me, and to me, it’s nice. It just doesn’t ring any bells.
Mon Guerlain edp. Had just enough in the sample to try, and empty. I like this one a lot. Thank you for the SSS recs yesterday – forgot about Bee’s Bliss and how that was well-regarded.
Wanted to chime in that Equestrian and Fireside Intense are two of my favorites! But you almost can’t go wrong with her 🙂 Some of them don’t seem worth owning to me, but none of them are not good to my nose. They range from positive-meh to amazing.
Seconding Fireside Intense; however, I would add the caveat that it is not exactly what I would call a safe blind buy. Nostalgie is a gorgeous aldehydic floral.
Sitting in bed, scent-free so far. I’ve come down with a cold, and won’t be going to work today. I think reading about perfume might be more rewarding than wearing it today.
Get well soon.
Sorry to hear that. Feel better soon!
Hope you feel better soon!
Sorry to hear that you are under the weather. Feel better!
Hope you’re feeling better soon.
Boo, sorry Gaynor!
Monday Mitsy for me today.
Woke up to a small subconjunctival hemorrhage in my eye. Yep, it’s Monday. ?
Aie! Hope it’s better soon.
Thx! The sooner no one has to look at it, the better.?It’s small, so it should hopefully clear up quickly.
O_O Get well soon!
Oh, I’m OK, Koyel. It’s harmless; it just *looks* gross.
That’s a relief to hear, Creosote!
Yikes! ?
Heh, that’s the clean version of what I said!?
?!
I had this happen several years ago right before vacation! Funny, not funny, someone else with whom I travelled had the same thing so both of us had sunglasses on for as long as we can get away with wearing them. I hope it clears up quickly although I don’t think there’s any way to hasten it, is there?
Oh, you had a broken-blood-vessel buddy?!?? (I’m hoping it was a spring or summer vacay, for all the ? wearing?) No, there’s no way to speed it up. Thankfully, it’s small and at the very outer edge of the eye, so it won’t be too bad when it starts diffusing. Then again, I could deal with it by just walking around giving everyone side eye all day!?
I don’t really know what that is and am afraid to look, but get better!
Thanks, Robin! It’s bleeding or a broken blood vessel under surface of the eye. It can be caused by all sorts of things—from head or eye trauma, to high blood pressure, to sneezing(!). But it’s often not clear which was the case, and you don’t even realize you have one unless you look in the mirror and see it or someone else tells you. I’ve had one before, so at least I knew not to panic this morning when I saw a random red spot in my eye. …But, yeah, it might be best to avoid looking up photos to avoid seeing the worst examples!?
Thank you, I am going to skip the pictures for now! Hope it heals up soon.
Continuing with more incense, today Fille en Aiguilles. I Think i will need Full Incense tomorrow …
How did it go today? Sending lots of positive vibes.
Fingers crossed for a good outcome for your boyfriend!
Thinking of you.
In Chanel Eau Premiere from the tall bottle, the lemony version. It has proved very diffusive on this cool, sunny day.
I have just bought a set of 5ml vintage minis: Ralph Lauren Lauren, Armani Acqua di Gio, Guy Laroche Fidji, Cacharel Loulou and Anais Anais, this goes on Donatella’s list.
What a great set!
Thank you Lillijo, and I forgot to list Paloma Picasso which I adore.
Even better!
Waiting to take off for Brazil. Wearing Tiger’s Nest because it seemed the nicest thing to reach for after a last minute scramble around my apartment because I’d misplaced my passport. I get two weeks vacation while my husband attends a conference
Safe travels! ✈
Nice! Enjoy!
Scent of the weekend was AG Ninfeo Mio, from the sample stash.
SOTD = AG Ninfeo Mio again. Why mess with a good thing?
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
I’m inclined to keep reaching for the same scent for several days during the summer. Something about the heat makes me less interested in picking something different every day.
Yep! I’ve been doing several days stretches of wearing the same scent this summer, too. Part of it is trying to use up samples. Part of it is I seem to be less fickle about perfumes right now. Not sure why.
I wore Cristalle today but I had a lovely package waiting for me when I came home this evening. Thanks to therabbitsflower, I am now wafting Cologne du 68. Now I know what all the fuss was about!
Lovely—both!
? I enjoyed them both tremendously today.
I know what Cristalle is like, but haven’t yet come across Cologne du 68.
It has the Guerlain DNA. I really enjoyed it.
Shalimar Initial
Odalisque today. My bottle is getting low but not sure about repurchasing. I’ve heard it’s been reformulated or tweaked. ?
It’s been a Monday for me, too. Dental appointment revealed bad news. I need a crown, plus I have an infected root canal. I really don’t like dental work, y’all. Looks like I’ll be on a no-buy for awhile.
Started out the morning in 4711 Lime&Nutmeg, thanks to the split from the lovely pixel. Worked out at the gym, came home and cleaned up, applied just the smallest dab of Dame Labdanum Doux before the appointment. Fun times!
Sorry about the dental bad news 🙁 on the other hand I bet you smell great.
Thanks, Aurora! Not great on the dental front, but it was a very nice fragrance day. ?
Dental work is so awful, in so many ways, I’m sorry.
Can you describe the Labdanum Doux? I’ve been very curious to how it smells.
I just used the tiniest dab, but I could detect musk, peach and some ylang. It’s not sweet, though, which is great. It’s from a sample vial, so I’ll pour it into an atomizer and try it again tomorrow.
I looked at the Fragrantica reviews, and they are mostly raves…indolic, chypre, compares to Mitsouko, etc. So I think this needs to be sprayedto get the full effect.
Boo hiss on the bad news from the dentist! That root canal sounds horrible.
The dentist recommended the endodontist who did her root canal, so I’m hoping for the best! ??
I’ll add a couple more ??! I’ve not had any issues with the root canal I had, so I’ll send my positive dental vibes your way too.
Ineke Hothouse Flower today.
Went to Renegade craft fair yesterday. Lots of skincare, soy candles, CBD body products, no fragrance otherwise, boring jewelry (sorry I am both jaded and judgy in that quarter), and jumpsuits up the wazoo. I bought a couple cool hair chopsticks/pins.
