Happy Almost-Friday and happy Fourth of July! What fragrance are you wearing?
Theme of the day: layering for hot humid weather. Carthusia Mediterraneo over Tauer Perfumes Rose Delight Body Oil.
Reminder: 7/5 will be Dealer's Choice, edition 3...propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme. (We did this in 2015 and 2017.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try (but usually fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Odeur 53 COMME des GARCONS
Love that name!♥️
Sounds like a great combo, Robin.
Continuing with Focus and Clarity theme, wearing Azemour Les Orangers.
That’s such a great scent! You smell delicious!
Glannys, you smell great!
L’artisan day 4 – Vanille Absolument. Would also fit vanilla, booze and “just bring it back, already” projects.
Bob, you crack me up. Also, I just realized that your avatar is a perfume bottle cap – perfect!
It could be that but I think it is a Lego minifig
It is! I created it for the rinse and repeat project last year and just kept it on. But I do love that it does look a bit like a bottle cap as well.
Oh, how funny. I had to go look that up – my Lego experience is pretty minimal.
I knew that as soon as you said it was a perfume bottle cap
My nephew is a Lego junkie. I used to bid on Legos for him until he got old enough to fake being old enough ?
Right!? Bring it back already!!
?Happy Fourth of July!?
I’m in California Reverie. Because California is one of the fifty states, and well, it just smells great.
My dad is driving in one of the local parades and madtownteen is going to ride with him and throw candy. What is a parade without candy?
That’s so sweet that they are in the Parade together! And lol, at because California is one of the States. Happy 4th to you!
His face just lit up when she said she would go. So to be honest, I don’t know who is more excited. It is really sweet.☺️
Happy fourth to you! I think you are working (?). Hope your day goes fast and you get some time off this weekend to spend with family!
I love local parades on the 4th. And the pancake breakfasts.
And the chicken dinners!?
You smell great!
I may copy you in wearing CR. Either that or see if I have any American perfumers for the day. Unfortunately, my SSS travel spray is empty….
That was my logic: “This perfume was inspired by Los Angeles…”
I hope the parade was wonderful. Wish I could have been there to catch candy!
Wore Philosykos at bedtime last night for the ongoing Best In Its Class project. Today I spritzed on some JM Wood Sage and Sea Salt just because it’s easy and relaxing. Not sure it’s best in its class, but it’s very enjoyable.
Agree with your distinctions
I love both of those choices.
After a miserably cold and rainy spring, summer has set in with a vengeance, and for no reason at all I reached for SL Fourreau Noir, which is pretty seasonless. I mean, when *isn’t* it time for lavender and black licorice?
You smell fantastic. A great choice any day.
Seriously! And we have aphids on everything…plants I didn’t even know could get aphids have aphids this year, it is like a plague. We have been here 21 years, and have never seen this before.
And my seriously was in response to the vengeance of summer, obviously, not the SL
Robin, that happened to me last summer! I ordered a couple of boxes of live ladybugs to help me out. I also sprayed with diluted soap (kitchen dawn dishwashing soap is recommended) and water.
I had them everywhere! I think they thrive in the high heat & humidity.
That must be it, the humidity, or we’ve lost our ladybug population maybe. So you released ladybugs in your yard, and it helped?
I’m in Memo Winter Palace today. I like it a lot but I find the price to exceed my budget by a bit, lol.
Happy Independence Day to all US people!
House twin! I’m in Eau de Memo. My husband gifted it to me because he likes the tea smell, so I didn’t have to think of the price.
I remember liking Eau de Memo too!
Oh geez. Wasn’t familiar with that Memo so went to look it up, and now I NEEEEEEED that bottle because dragon! ?
Took a hot 90+ degree walk on this beautiful morning. The sun was shining, the leaves were green, and the sky was blue. I’m so lucky! Wore Hermès Kelly Caleche extrait which is perrrrrfection. There’s a 1oz bottle full on eBay for just $54 right now (not affiliated just love this juice). Hermès lovers, this is amazing juice!
Arrghhhh! You are tempting me! I love the EdT.
What are your thoughts on the edp and extrait?
I like the edt, but the extrait is just brilliant imho. The edt was less rosy, less suede, and more herbal or green. The parfum is richer, smoother, but still has this herbaceous/greenblue note cutting through it that keeps it from being heavy. It’s rich and lovely and very unique.
You and hajusuuri both have recently talked about how gorgeous the extrait is. I’ve never sniffed it. I tend toward green.
The parfum is deeper, richer and has leather. I also like the EDP which is more floral and citrusy. If I had to pick one, I would pick the parfum.
I was all set to wear Brin de Reglisse for umami today… then I remembered I didn’t have to go to work! So I went for a weirder/more powerhouse scent in Olympic Orchids Devilscent #3. I love this and it will probably be my first FB purchase from her. It’s a little too clove-and-cherry to be really umami, but smoky enough that I think it counts (and it has a truffle note listed, which I don’t get a ton of but that’s as umami as it gets!)
Oh, that does sound fun!
In the last bits of Dangerous Complicity from the ELDO sampler I’m determined to thunk. I have two more fragrances to try. I have a bottle of Fat Electrician already, so that sample went to the give/swap pile. Still have Putains and Tilda to try.
Happy Independence Day, to those who celebrate! ??
You mentioned 4 of the 5 ELDOs for which I have FBs (luckily just 30ml each, perfect size).
I love those smaller bottle sizes, too. What is the name of the fifth bottle you have?
I think if I had a choice for a second, I’d choose Rossy.
I also have Roland Mouret Une Amourette. I like a lot of the ELDOs but nothing’s screaming “I need 100mls”. I still have a bunch of samples that haven’t gotten a fair sniff yet, too.
Oh, and I don’t think I have a Rossy sample… will need to check that one!
Happy 4th to my friends south of the border!
I’m wearing JM Jasmine Sambac & Marigold.
Happy 4th of July to all of those celebrating.
I’m wearing Eau Sauvage. It’s such a wonderful fragrance.
Looks like the Dutch and US women will be facing each other in Lyon this Sunday. I’m rooting for my own country, though I don’t care much for football as a rule, but the enthousiasm of this team of women is quite something.
I am going to try to watch that game.
I normally only follow the men’s World Cup , as most of you know from last year as I informed you of all the good looking coaches and players. Your welcome ?
Dutch women are great athletes, I follow bicycle road racing and several of the top women (including the current world champions of road racing and time trialing) are Dutch.
What I love about the women’s football is the fact that they are just there for the sport. I really dislike men’s football. I have no interest whatsoever in watching a bunch of overpaid prima donna’s not making a proper effort. I’m sure I’m exaggerating but you get my general drift.
I guess cycling should be an area where we excel since we do it so much.
My favourite Dutch sport to watch is speed skating, which is where we have been really successful.
I’m riveted by the women’s World Cup. I love how intense everyone is and how they’ve worked so hard to become elite athletes with very little league or federation support- it’s obvious that they just truly love to play.
I agree!! What a series and I wouldn’t miss this game.
Experimenting again…I had gotten little packets of Institut Tres Bien colognes. I expected the little foil-lined paper packet would have something like an alcohol swab with perfume on it. Nope — the little packet just had the liquid inside. Now the bed and my arms and legs smell like Italian cologne. Fortunately it’s a nice scent as far as I’m concerned, but I didn’t expect the liquid to go everywhere.
How weird, I have never heard of that sort of sample packaging!
Neither had I! Next time I’ll know, and try not to spill the liquid like that. I still have samples of the French and Russian colognes from Institut Tres Bien.
I’ve had a couple of themes this week, I guess. I’ve wavered back and forth between wearing fragrances that are comforting to me and feeling like experimenting. The vanilla scents are comforting to me, and some of the citrus or floral perfumes.
I got a sample of Nuxe Prodigieux Le Parfum. Makes no sense.
Maybe you could pour the rest into some sample vials, neyronrose?
*meant to say Nuxe… packaged that way.
It’s a milliliter or a fraction of a milliliter in each packet, I think. The packets strongly resemble those that hold individual tea bags. Still, the drops went a long way. But I’ll definitely keep a little cup around to tip excess “juice” into when I experiment with colognes that are packaged that way.
Thank you for the advice, kpaint.
Thank goodness you like the smell!
Yes, that was fortunate. Mom had a coughing spell, but she’s had coughing fits for several days from allergies in general. I was in another room, and she didn’t say anything about a cologne smell coming from the room I was in.
My bedroom, on the other hand, seems to have acquired a semi-permanent perfume or cologne smell. The notes depend on what I’ve spilled or experimented a lot with in the last few days. Sometimes I’ll try something right before bed. (I change the sheets every few days, but not every day.) And there seem to be some perfumes so strong that the fragrance comes through a plastic bag. idk
After I’d washed my arms and legs, I switched to a few sprays of the 4711 Acqua Colonia Pink Pepper & Grapefruit. It doesn’t last long, but it’s not really meant to. I find that fragrance comforting for some reason. I even ordered some of the other sorts of 4711 Acqua Colonia fragrances that I didn’t get decants of from Pixel’s 4711 Incident. What I ordered were the 2.5 oz. body sprays rather than the 5.7 oz. bottles, though. I don’t know where I’d put bottles that size.
I’ll be listening to fireworks for the next few hours. I hope those who celebrate the 4th of July have had a nice holiday.
Hey neyronrose!!! Please email me (link on my username) and send me your mailing address. I’ve got the Chanel freebie for you!
E-mailed you! Thank you!
PSA: Dame perfumery is giving away 2ml oil samples free with code frangraticajuly4th while supplies last, no purchase required. Today.
Edit.. of Chilehead only
Happy Independence Day!
I am sampling two more from Panah right now…Brandied Pear and Strawberry Delight.
BP is a green, herbal pear w/ some spice…a pear gourmand. I’m not generally a fan of pear and won’t need more.
SD is pretty much straight strawberry and chocolate. It’s nice but there are more interesting chocolate fragrances out there.
Yesterday I tried their Pink Champage truffle and that one was a winner…may need to get a bottle but it is pretty over priced imho. I generally think $1 to $2.50 per ml is ok. $3 to $4 is getting into ludicrous territory methinks. As many of you know, I like to cite Lura Turin’s statement from his defunct blog re: price, “so let’s say $120 or so for 100 ml of EdP or a half ounce of proper extrait”. So $1.20 per ml.
Maybe we also need independence from overpriced niche perfume prices.
I’ll vote for that.
Yes some of those prices are crazy. Although if a house offers smaller sizes I find myself being more forgiving
On my way to work right now and wearing Dior Granville. I didn’t realize that it was discontinued and kicking myself for not getting a bottle while I had the chance. Happy 4th to everyone.
Working twins! Happy 4th, Dawn.
I’m doing a note side-by-side comparison of ylang-ylang scents with Isis (Agonist) on my left hand and Fleur des Comores (MPG) on my right. Both are pretty sweet. FdC is a bit sweeter with a somewhat narcotic white flower aspect and some fruity aspects (black currant). Isis is a bit more spicy with a slight citrus note. Both are heavy on vanilla too. It will be interesting to see how they develop. Can anyone suggest other perfumes with a strong ylang-ylang aspect? I’m realising it’s really one of my most favourite perfume notes.
I think Femme de Rochas and Joy de Patou are both big on yang-ylang. And APOM as well. I’m not very good at picking out notes, but I have a feeling it might be high on my list too.
I love this note too: Molton Brown Ylang-Ylang is a good replacement for the discontinued Aqua Allegoria Ylang-Vanille, Private Collection Amber-Ylang and I love the ylang note in these classics: Chanel No 5 and Eau Premiere and especially Guy Laroche Fidji. Enjoy your quest.
Seville L’Aube? It’s got other stuff going on alongside the y-y.
The classic floral aldehydes with ylang in addition to Chanel No 5: Chanel No 22 and Le Galion Sortilege.
Keiko Mecheri (A) Fleur de Peau (sweet and very leathery)
Goutal Vanille Charnelle
Sylvaine Delacourte Lilylang (have not tried it, but someone mentioned it in the comments recently).
Happy 4th of July! I’m working today but have tomorrow off. Continuing the music theme, wearing Superstitious. I’m matching it with Janet Jacksons ?Black Cat?
I love this perfume so much. I can’t seem to smell it as much in the humidity. Everyone keep their fingers crossed that I get my air conditioning up and running today. Please and thank you ?
My fingers are crossed for your a/c! I’m heading to the coffee shop soon to treat myself to a little a/c
Stay cool! My house was almost ninety degrees when, I left this morning. There’s just to much humidity!
Hoping the air conditioning repair goes smoothly and on schedule.
Enjoy your day off tomorrow and I don’t know Superstitious but bet you smell great.
Oh, Aurora, I think you would love Superstitious. It’s big and vintagy, a little animalic. I really find it beautiful.
Thank you Lillyjo, you had me at vintagy, putting Superstitious on my list of samples.
Report back when you smell it.
Crossing figures for your AC!
Sending you positive A/C vibes!
Thanks! I think it’s been fixed! It’s running, anyway. I will have to see how the next few hrs go.
Posting this a little late, but I’m happy to hear that your AC is running now!
Me too, it’s still running and it’s down to 83 degrees now. I barely slept last night. Hopefully it doesn’t give me anymore problems.
In Sunny Side Up, one of the few JHAG scents I don’t hate. Not FB worthy for me, but perfect for beach picnic!
Wearing Rose de Siwa from the freebiemeet. Very pretty rose.
That’s a good one
Day 4 of Summer Perfumes I Forget To Wear: EL Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia. This is balanced so nicely. No celebrations for me today, I’m mowing the lawn and then kicking back with a book and a cocktail. Parades just make me bored and sunburned and I’ve never been big on barbequing–probably pasta for dinner.
A book and a cocktail sounds perfect – enjoy!
No big plans to celebrate the 4th today. Frankly, I’m just enjoying having the day off! Continuing the Stop Hoarding Those Decants and Samples theme with Ava Luxe Orange Flower, courtesy of therabbitsflower. I’m giving myself bonus points for wearing an American perfumer today
we just had an earthquake in SoCal as I was stepping out of the shower. Just a touch of Satori for calming. had a few things fall over.
Living in an earthquake-y place myself, I completely sympathise.
Really, where was the epicenter and how strong was it? If things fell over it must have been pretty strong.
6.4, out in the desert N of Barstow.
That’s pretty serious!
Yes! Continuing aftershocks as well.
So scary- my brother is there and being an immature twenty-something described it as “fun”. Umm – no. Glad you are okay
My daughter is in Studio City, and she found it rather exciting. I’m not excited. ?
Very glad you are ok. I hope the rest of your day is very peaceful.
I am very close to the epicenter (I’m in Ridgecrest, CA), and I can tell you it has been quite an unnerving day…..
Still cleaning up from all the stuff that got broken when it flew off the walls and out of the cupboards this morning.
The aftershocks have been numerous and frequent.
However, I, my friends, and Otto Mi Gato are unharmed, which is terrific!
Relieved to hear that you and yours are all right! The news footage from out there was incredible.
Oh my – awful. Hope that’s the end of it
I’m glad you’re okay, Lisa D. Let’s hope for a quiet night.
Yikes! Glad everyone’s okay. 6.4 is a scary one.
Oy, glad to hear you are ok!
Hope this latest, even bigger one, left you unscathed. Scary. I’ve been there. It’s nerve wracking.
So scary. I’m glad you are ok!
6.4 is a fairly big one, isn’t it? Yikes. ? Glad to hear that you are all right apsara.
I am fine, Jalapeno, had a few things fall over, but that’s it. I think Lisa D and Otto mi Gato had the most clean up.
I’m glad you’re okay, apsara. I very much hope you can sleep well tonight.
Glad you’re ok.
Covet today, theme is wear your blind buys. This one has a big thumbs up. Really good for a cheapie. Tomorrow i will continue the theme with my newest blind buy, which just arrived today. Luckily also a thumbs up, and a cheapie too
Hurray for cheapie blind buys.
What’s your blind buy?
Continuing in scents for the heat, although it’s a gorgeous day, not too hot, I am in Fragonard Fleur d’Oranger, I have almost finished my bottle, there is an intense version of it now, but I don’t see how it could be improved.
I have 2 vintage Fragonard and they are the only ones from the brand that I have smelled. I’ve been looking into trying more scents from them, but it’s hard to know where to start.
Oh vintage ones, wonderful. I like this house but I feel the same and find all the ones with women’s names confusing, but I can warmy recommend Fleur d’Oranger and Santal too in their current version.
I was forgetting I have Fragonard by Fragonard, a honeysuckle scent I quite like and I gave my brother a vintage Eau de Hongrie which he loves.
Also, Happy 4th of July to all American commenters.
Bvlgari “Aqua pour homme”. From one of those airport coffrets of miniatures that allow you to try 5 disappointments in short order.
I’ve got a particularly difficult meeting this morning, which I’m not looking forward to. I’m going to wear Mad Madame from JHAG. It is quite a sharp scent to my nose, which seems appropriate, but it’s name I’m particularly focusing on
I like to wear Mad Madame when I’m feeling a little grumpy.
I hope that your meeting went well!
You smell great Robin! We are house twins – discovered I packed my Wowilla body oil. I love Rose Delight but find the former easier to wear.
We missed the parade and I am so tired already we will probably skip the fireworks. Boohoo.
Ohhhh Wowilla is a Tauer body oil! Well, that’s worth looking into. I also need some LADDM. I have the parfum version but it doesn’t do it for me the way the original does.
The Wowilla is a very nice not too sweet gourmand to me. It smells like melted marshmallows and vanilla with a touch of caramel. Or like a warmed stroopwaffle (sp?)
Happy Fourth of July! SOTD is Dzing!, in reference to that sizzling, whistling sound fireworks make.? No big plans for today—just gonna watch some baseball, have a burger (cooked inside, in the glorious AC), and light a few sparklers.
Have a wonderful day, wherever you are, NSTers!
Okay, now I want a burger. And a milkshake.
Woke up ridiculously early (4 a.m.) for the 2nd day in a row but this time I managed to go back to sleep for a couple of hours. Must’ve been the Prada Vetiver I thought to put on, which I reupped after waking.
No plans here, just having a lazy day. I have a tradition of watching Hello, Dolly on the 4th, which I’ll probably do tonight. Leading into it with some Sean Connery Bond sounds like a good idea.
Thanks for talking me out of/into lemons & limes yesterday. No one talked me out of Elle L’Aime so I bought a mini of that plus the Thymes Tupelo Lemongrass. Cheap summer flings!
Enjoy the holiday, fellow USers.
I like Elle L’Aime ? Sean Connery’s nice too!
Have now topped off with Carven Vetiver. I bought this last summer and found it too sharp and masculine. I’ve worn in numerous times this summer and love it. It’s bracing and cuts right through the humidity.
Had also meant to say that Robin, your combo sounds divine!
Isn’t it funny/great how our olfactory tastes change?
Hope you like the Thymes! I blind-bought a rollerball a few years ago in the dead of winter and it really cheered me up.
I’m wearing You or Someone Like You today. It’s inspired by Los Angeles, so it’s kind of appropriate for today. (Madtowngirl’s logic applies…). It’s just so crisp and perfect in this 100 degree heat.
Have a safe and happy celebration, anyone who is celebrating!
You or Someone Like You smells fantastic. Perfect choice ?
SotD = Hiris + Infusion d’Iris EdT
Hiris early this morning plus Infusion d’Iris top ups throughout the day and evening. Yay for layering that works. ?
Today my extended family and I are going to BBQ our dinner then eat cake to celebrate my nephew’s 16th birthday. ? Then fireworks in the city center.
Happy day to all!
You smell lovely. Have fun – sounds like a great day!
Thanks, kpaint! Hope you enjoyed your low-key day ?
Have a great time!
Sounds like loads of fun… enjoy! ??✨
I started hearing cicadas outside in the past week, so summer is well and truly here. Fireflies have been a no-show, however. I think that is because one of their favorite trees to hang out by toppled over earlier in the year and was removed.
It is officially the second heat wave of the summer here. “July the Hot” indeed!
No special plans for today, except for having a cold Coke with cane sugar right out of the fridge.
SOTD = L’Artisan Un Air de Bretagne EdP, from the sample stash. It strongly reminds me of Hermes Eau des Merveilles Bleue.
The Coke sounds very good right now. This seems early for Cicadas, to me.
That Coke was VERY good… cut right thru the humidity for a little bit.
4th of July is typical for cicadas out here, so I’m glad that they have showed up. Still bummed about the fireflies, though.
As I’m reading this, I just noticed the cicadas humming.
Lightning bugs (fireflies) have been numerous ’round here.
My WILD HONEY NECTAR candle is a major attraction it seems.
Costco featured cane sugar Coke this week. I don’t know why we can’t make that standard in the U.S.
Re: fireflies – they’re all flitting around in northern NJ. The humidity was not bad around 7:30 so a bunch of us went for a 1.5 mile walk around the neighborhood, (I) had a large plate of dessert, then sat outside for a chat on everything and nothing, including catty judgement on the host’s cousin who has had so much non-medically required plastic surgery that she looked 20 years older than her older sisters AND the plastic surgeon refused to do any more.
Perfumes I love but do not wear often enough: Tom Ford Fleur de Chine.
The first day of a 5-day long weekend for me. Had to work in the morning but plan to give myself a break until Tuesday (or at least Monday night).
I’m glad you are getting some much needed time off. You smell great!
SOTD is JM Myrrh and Tonka just because I really like it and I can wear whatever I want on my day off. It’s a little too strong for the office, I think. I went out for breakfast with a friend then stopped by Goodwill. I got a couple good pairs of summer pants, light, breathable fabrics and a few books. I watched an episode of Big Little Lies earlier and saw some perfumes on Reese Witherspoon’s character’s dresser. I didn’t pause it to figure out any more, but I saw the white bottle of Narciso Rodriguez among them.
Continuing with the CP and wearing my vacation perfume purchases. Tonight I have on 2 sprays of Guerlain Samsara edt.
I made the mistake of watching Lisa Eldridge’s video on her summer lippies again. Kept obsessing over one of them and caved last night; I’ve NEVER spent so much on a lipstick, but I don’t have that color in my stash. Now I can’t wait to get it!
Ooh just googled her – the lipstick colors are very nice
They are! She’s also done red lipsticks around Christmas and sold out very quickly.
The only thing better than a new perfume is a brand new tube of lipstick. I hope it looks fabulous!
Thank you! Me too. I went for the pink/salmon color; It should be good for my skin tone. I wish I could wear bright, bold colors but I just end up looking like the Tasmanian Devil’s girlfriend.
