Wednesday scent of the day 7/3

Posted by Robin on 3 July 2019 227 Comments

Hump Day, and International Plastic Bag Free Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

My theme today: the best fragrance for getting home from vacation, and all the associated chores (unpacking, sorting mail, laundry, cleaning up the mess everybody made while you were gone, etc). So far, Aftelier Candide is working great, plus it's nice to smell like flowers after a week of smelling like bug spray.

Reminder: 7/5 will be Dealer's Choice, edition 3...propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme. (We did this in 2015 and 2017.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try (but usually fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: you can find lots of perfume-related tote bags at Zazzle.

I wanted something cheerful so I opted for Atelier Cedrat Envirant. Worked well for physical therapy.

Same, at least when it comes to choosing between L’Eau, Laine de Verre and L’Eau Froide. I don’t think I tried L’Eau de Paille.

Continuing my Stop Hoarding Those Samples and Decants theme with Tam Dao, from a freebiemeet sample (thanks Neyronrose!) I’m seriously considering adding an FB to my collection now that Diptyque is doing those limited edition 1oz bottles.

Once I get out of work, I’m making tonight a Get S*** Done night. I’m going to do some cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. so I can enjoy a clean apartment and a chore-free holiday and weekend. (Here’s hoping that if I put it into writing, I’ll be less likely to change my mind by the time I get home!)

She is a bit weird though, she thinks the newspaper she reads holds the whole truth about everything (thankfully its a pretty decent newspaper haha) and I bet she does not even know what kind of work I do (she is a bit self obsessed / centered), but she has no bad intentions at all, and we get along pretty great. :)

I’m always faintly surprised when I like sweet gourmandy fragrances and I do rather like this one. To me, it’s mandarin, bitter orange — which adds a touch of tartness that keeps the whole thing from being too cloying — and immortelle; I know the Maltol, tonka, vanilla and “caramel” are there but they don’t overwhelm me.
I hope someone else will chime in here, too. Since they’re all wildly different, this may not be helpful, but for the record, I like Bucoliques en Provence and Mandarina Corsica; I did not like Un Air de Bretagne and Mont de Narcisse.

I have been waiting a few weeks for a perfume from eBay. The tracking information has had the perfume stuck at Santa Clara Distribution Center. It haa been there a week.

The seller told me to call there and there was nothing they could do. They have been quick to respond, so I can’t imagine any problem due to a seller issue.

Anyone got anything on Santa Clara?

In No 5 L’eau. Wore Cristalle yesterday morning followed by Beige post-shower. Seems like a theme is emerging, not sure what it is… ;)

I’m pondering some summer perfume purchases and wondering if y’all can help me out. I’m always up for anything lime or lemon and have been looking at the MM Lemon Tree one, Atelier Pacific Lime, and Guerlain fleurs blah blah blah Cedrat.

Caveats: I’ve not had great experiences with Atelier as most of their citruses are laden with heavy spices that I find totally overwhelming. I’m not always a big cologne fan, also due to spices or herbals that drown out the citrus facets. I like my lemons and limes more straight-up, as it were.

I’m also considering LL Elle L’aime, which has been sitting in my eBay cart for like 5 summers now. I love the concept of coconut and lime, but too much coconut can be a a bit much for me.

    And finally:

Is anyone interested in swapping some Sycomore EDT for the EDP? I’ve got about 10mls of decanted EDT and am wanting the EDP.

Click on my username to contact me if so.

Sounds like your theme is Chanel.?
As for summer lemons or limes, I tried the MM and something in the drydown really bugged me. I found the Atelier to last surprisingly long for a citrus, but still not fb worthy for me. What about LL Bergamote 22 or Assam of India?

Cedrat Envirant falls into the heavy spice category for me along with Orange Sanguine, Bergamote Soleil, and most of the others that people find citrusy and refreshing :(

The Atelier lime didn’t work for me at all. Something in the combo made me queasy. OJ Frangipani has a great, realistic lime note that lasts for a good while.
Any of the PdNs work for you (Eau d’Ete or the Mixte one)?

As to the Atelier, duly noted.

I love OJ Frangipani but it’s super short lived on me and rather faint. I also find the iso e super in that line hard to deal with.

Have not had great luck with Nicolai. Everything I’ve tried has a common base that doesn’t sit well with me. I did buy a bottle of Patchouli Intense for my husband, though. It smells fantastic on him.

Ok, yes, the PdN issue you have is coming back to me now. I wonder if it’s the same thing I don’t love- kinda dusky/bitter? Maybe fake oakmoss or some patchouli-ish thing? It’s in the base of Neroli Intense and I just have to ignore that part, lol.

I really wanted to love MM Lemon Tree, because the first 10 minutes or so are wonderful, but it fades quickly and I thought the drydown was disappointing. Overall, meh. Of course, YMMV.

For lemon, I like Agua de Colonia Concentrada. It’s a cologne, so it fades pretty quickly too, but it’s lovely while it lasts and cheap enough to douse yourself in.

If you want to go for a super cheap lemon, Turkish lemon cologne (Limon Kolonyasi) is a great splash-it-on summer treat. More of a Jean Nate sort of experience than an actual cologne or perfume, but it’s straight-up lemon.

My theme was going to be Try It Already, which is to finally try out an unsampled perfume in your possession. I sprayed on Frau Tonis Linde Berlin No. 10, but it had a candy sweetness that I didn’t enjoy. I recall Zeta reading the same way with too much sweetness when I tried it. So instead I’m doing Cover It Up by spraying Grand Chalet (linden and mimosa) over top of it.

I’m a bit of a broken record this summer, because I’ve stayed oddly committed to Jour d’Hermes. I mix it up by adding some other thing elsewhere, but Jour is usually in play. Wearing it again today and a bit of Aerin Hibiscus Palm from my rollerball. Very summery!

I like that bag, Robin. I really have to control myself when it comes to canvas bags. I have a couple, and do get some use out of them, but if I bought every one of them that I liked, we would be knee-deep in pretty and/or fun totes…

I’m off to my first WW meeting and weigh in. The good news is I already know the bad news on weight since I was just at doctor….

Wearing Idylle Love Blossom on this hot and humid day. I guess the theme is “feeling pretty when sweating.”

Brave! Hope it is a good experience at WW.

My doctor weigh-ins are so inaccurate it’s ridiculous. I don’t even try anymore. I did a few this winter with my 10 lb parka on and sometimes I don’t even set my (very large, very full) handbag aside.

Today I am sampling Panah Pink Champagne Truffle which is probably FB worthy. Chocolate, raspberry and rose. ? mmm ?

Also sampling Les Nereides Douceur de Vanille which is not FB worthy. Almondy baby powder to my nose.

I tried the Nereides at some point and it’s on the list of things I want more of. But it’s entirely possible that I was buying it for the almond, not the vanilla.

Pink Champagne Truffle sounds pretty dang good. Though chocolate doesn’t always work for me.

On today’s version of blind buy: the good, the bad and the ugly, I’m in Aroma M Geisha O-Cha.
I can’t decide if this is for me or not. It starts out very green and herby, but my sniffer somehow interprets it as a little soapy. It changes to light green tea and some citrus after a half hour, and it’s the oil, so it wears close. Dunno. Kinda like it. May be up for a swap for this one.

Funny you say that…I was looking for reviews on this, and people were ga ga over it because it was so close to the real green tea! Good nose, girl.
Yeah, I love to drink tea, but not sure I want to smell like it, unless it also has a bunch of vanilla, spices, booze, amber…..this is a solid ‘like’, though. I’ve had way, WAY worse blind buys!

Starting the day in Eau Premiere, but will probably switch to Eau de Neutrogena Beach Defense later this afternoon. It actually does smell pretty good imo.
I’m spending the week at my parents house and the weather has been just perfect so far. The kids and I spent the afternoon at the beach yesterday soaking up the sun. My parents live literally out in the middle of nowhere and a mother deer and her twin fawns have been making themselves at home in their yard. My dad guesses they are about 10 days old and they are the cutest things with their spindly legs. They are hardly old enough to be afraid of people yet, they are more curious than anything.

EXCEPT this one which I had in my Parfum1 cart for a long time a few years ago, only to lose it, and it’s really hard to find anywhere except for a lot more occasionally on Ebay.

I didn’t receive the greatest news from the dentist. One tooth can either be root canaled but they would have to do something with the bone to make a crown because I have a tooth next to it that needs to have a crown too. The reason is that the roots of one tooth is really short. Or I can have the tooth pulled. I don’t know what to do. Spent the morning cleaning and now it’s off to work while wearing CK One.

1969 on the left arm, Shangri La on the right–inspired by folks who mentioned, on the NST Damage Poll, that Shangri La didn’t work for them. I always thought they had similarities, and I had the same sort of trouble liking them at first–now I enjoy them both. So when I first applied them this AM they were totally different. But after an hour or so I can see why my scent memory linked them–humming peach with slightly masculine rose, tempered by spices— both, despite their names, feel classic/timeless/pre 1980s.

Less of a success was my most recent Scentbird acquisition, a decant of Juliette Has A Gun’s MMMM… I hate it so much that I canceled my subscription to Scentbird (yes, I do know that doesn’t exactly make sense!). So there.

And I have a similar feeling about my Scentbird account: 8ml (or whatever) is a huge sample if you end up not liking the scent… so trying to order things I’ve already sampled or will definitely like. But how many do I need? Though it IS fun to get packages in the mail. Sigh.

    Hello Y’all….

We’ve got a heat wave moving thru Atlanta, so I’m fighting back with D&G Light Blue Italian Zest. I sprayed 4 sprays this morning, and 7 hours in it’s finally fading completely away…..

SMELLY YOUTUBE ALERT: Has anyone else seen “Ami Loves Perfume”‘s newest video? My goodness, it’s the most relaxing thing in the universe to listen to her soft voice, describing the beautiful scents she has collected. Toward the end of her video she showed some Rogue Perfumery scents that were tempting enough for me to get on Etsy and buy the 3 pk of samples….. :) I’ll report in a few days how they smell!

Yes! I saw it. I had to break it into 3 parts. Please report back on your sample set, they sound very intriguing.

Sticking to my theme of scents that work for a wonky stomach I’ve chosen L’Eau Chic today. It’s crisp uplifting and unique, and the stomach though still a wee wonky is doing reasonably well.

I’m in the lingering scent of Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere shower gel. It was a well deserved, long over due shower and boy howdy, do I appreciate running hot water.

The internet in Canada bears no resemblance to the Internet it the US. It’s a whole new species, which costs a lot of money, which I don’t plan on buying. US peeps, you have no idea how good you have it in the Land of the Internet.?

Yes, I think that was part of the problem. Plus, you have to PAY for WiFi up here, and I’m not biting. Hence, I’m roaming on LTE with the lovely AT&T, who apparently partners with Canada Bell in this part of the world. My LTE is throttled so as to be almost useless. I called AT&T and the guy helped me reset my network settings, which seems to have helped.

Today I applied L’Artisan Cote d’Amour. Salt, citrus, pine, heavenly. I like it very much but it disappears in five minutes. Sad.
I’ve been browsing online for nice vegan salad recipes since that’s what I am taking to the 4th of July potluck tomorrow. I found some good-sounding ones and went shopping for all the ingredients. I’ll be making a chickpea salad that includes some onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and avocado. I hope it’s good. I used to take hot dogs, but times have changed. Our host has a rooftop deck from which we can see various fireworks displays all over town.

What perfumes would you compare the fragrance to? The notes sound up my alley.

Yes I’ll post feedback tomorrow after I’ve made the salad. I’m afraid I really don’t know another fragrance like this one. It’s distinctive due to the salty note, and I really do like that, but don’t know of anything similar.

I am bringing these for a 4th of July / going away party:

      https://www.cookinglight.com/healthy-living/costco-vodka-martini-pops-slim-chillers

I saw them at the front of the store and thought they were a good idea for the party. I didn’t know it was a “thing”. The artificial sweetener label worries me though and because it is alcohol, the manufacturer is not required to disclose the proportion of the ingredients.

Today I was wearing Kenzo l’Eau, the only typically 90’s scent that survived in my collection. I am still fond of this watery floral, 2 sorts of pepper scent and it fits my CP of perfumes to wear in hot weather.

I don’t think any of my typical nineties scents survived. They never seemed feel like “me”, except of course for Gucci Envy. Kenzo has never really been sold around here, so I don’t know this one.

Oh Gucci Envy was fantastic. Maybe you were like me and mostly wore 80’s perfumes in the 90’s :) but I found l’Eau spicy aspect suited me in summer.

Kenzo used to release interesting scents but it is no longer the case I find.

Yeah, I’ve always been more attracted to the bigger, more “perfumey” perfumes. I remember when Angel came out, not liking it because it didn’t smell like perfume. Everyone around here was wearing Cool Water and Polo Sport, and I was Sun, Moon and Stars and Paloma Picasso.

Really grody amounts of humidity outside today. Yuck! So thankful for air conditioning… it keeps the worst of the muggy at bay.

SOTD = Imaginary Authors The Soft Lawn EdP, from the sample stash. No tennis ball for me, but a very realistic cucumber peel note starts this one. It would make a great shower gel.

Commando in the late morning and early afternoon, as Mom and I were out and about. We made it to the grocery store where we usually get groceries and to Walmart. No glamour involved with those shopping trips, but we got food and I got my OTC allergy medicines. Spring allergies should be over, but it’s been raining so much that there’s a lot of mold and mildew outside. Which, of course, we’re allergic to.

In the later afternoon and evening, I wore SL Un Bois Vanille from a swapmeet decant. (Thank you, Koyel!) I really like it.

Have a good Fourth of July, those who celebrate it. :)

It’s quite possible that there are still allergens out there bothering you. It’s been a bad, bad season for allergies.

Chiming in with my SOTE, AG Neroli. I received 2 bottles gratis when I made some other purchases at one of my favorite perfume shops in Florida. It was a nice surprise, so I ended up giving one of the bottles to perfume loving co-worker.
