It's Tuesday and Jean Craighead George's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
My theme today: the best fragrance for the New Jersey Turnpike (yes, I'm still on my way home from vacation). The answer of course, is Diptyque Tam Dao, not least because it's what I already have in my purse.
Reminder: 7/5 will be Dealer's Choice, edition 3...propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme. (We did this in 2015 and 2017.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try (but usually fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Blue Sky Ceramic Woody teapot is about $47 at Amazon.
Odeur 53 COMME des GARCONS
You smell fantastic.
I love that one and iirc I have a decant somewhere. You smell great as always, Bear!
L’ete en douce, L’artisan Parfumeur.
I miss L’Artisan’s summer limited editions!
On my way to the dentist with my mother and hate these “traffic jams” in the suburbs. I would wonder if they would drive any better if they had their cellphones lodged elsewhere because too many are just yapping on them instead of driving. Wearing Jicky EDT right now.
Agreed! I am far more free with my use of the horn than I was 20 years ago: too many people on their phone at green lights, stopped.
Word.
Well I was going to do salty today in Sel Marin… sprayed myself thoroughly… thought, “that doesn’t smell like Sel Marin” and looked down to see I was holding my Derby decant, which is the same size and shape as my Sel Marin decant. If you would kindly imagine that I got it right, I am continuing with my week of the 5 tastes.
Yikes! I hope you’re enjoying the Derby.
I am, actually! It’s one I’d been meaning to spend more time with. But my heart belongs to Bel Ami.
Oops! At least you’ll smell great either way
I’m continuing my week of numbers with Escentric 2.
You could do this for a month I’m sure!
I have so many pretty summery orange blossom perfumes so that’s my theme for the week. I wore LAP Seville a l’aube yesterday, today it’s MFK APOM.
I love APOM! Maybe I should wear it today!
Orange blossom week sounds good!
I’m continuing a Best In Its Class theme, brilliantly suggested by Robin for Azemour after my not-sufficiently-caffeinated brain fade yesterday morning. Today’s Best In Its Class is Chanel 19 EDT.
That IS a great theme. I’m already thinking of ideas!
??
Continuing with Clarity and Focus theme. Layered Chanel Eau de Cologne and Chanel No. 5 L’Eau. Both are bright and upligting, and lemon and ylang are supposed to help with concentration. (Don’t really work so far today.)
That sounds like a lovely pairing! I hope your day gets brighter and better. ?
Thank you!
The only fragrance that I know of that brings me clarity and focus is the smell of coffee in the morning!!
Coffee only works for me when consumed internally.
My cp for this week will be blind buys: the good, the bad and the ugly.
I’m in one of my most recent blind buys, MCG Gershwin. I’m starting to think this is not my house. There’s something a little bitter and cumin-like at the start, but I’ll stick this out for the dry down.
Oooh nice theme. I had a terrible (but thankfully cheap) blind buy arrive yesterday, it would be nice to have this theme to justify the purchase! I’m determined to find something nice in tamarind, but Bath & Body Works Breathe Delight is apparently not gonna be it.
Oh no! It’s a nice name, at least.
I’m wearing Week End from my sample grab bag.
My CP this week is fragrances I wear when I’m feeling under the weather.
I had a great two weeks in Normandy, Honfleur especially is a place I just didn’t want to leave at all, but have gotten some bug on the way home.
Yesterday I wore the lovely and crisp Thé pour un Eté, and today is rendered bearable (I’m exaggerating here, I’m fine as long as I don’t really eat anything of importance) by the glorious original Eau de Monsieur by Goutal. While away I’ve sort of been reading the comments here a bit, but for once didn’t feel like commenting myself. It was nice to just lay low for 2 weeks.
Glad to hear that you enjoyed Normandy. I hope that the travel crud goes away for you quickly.
Hope you are feeling better soon!
Take care Austenfan! I hope it passes quickly!
Such a cute teapot, reminds me of many hot, sticky drives in the jersey turnpike as a kid wanting to stop at Howard Johnson’s for peppermint ice cream! Sans the surfboard of course.
Still jet laggy, think some Paris Deauville post shower. Don’t return to work until July 8.
Ah, the NJ Turnpike would be much nicer today if there was a HoJos with peppermint ice cream!
Super crazy, busy day. Wearing Jo Malone Honeysuckle & Davana. Very pretty! Sample thunk!
Another accomplishment
Chanel Les Eaux Biarritz sample. But I’ve tried them all and safely concluded that I don’t need them. I would still love a bottle of the Les Exclusifs Eau de Cologne, however.
PS Love the teapot. And right now I’d love a big mug of quality tea with a dash of cream and sugar.
I went down a little rabbit hole of car-related teapots yesterday…this was on the cheaper side of what is out there!
No theme for me, since I completely lack Glannys’s Clarity and Focus. I mean zero, people, it’s all I can do to keep my scattered thoughts herding in some semblance of a direction. Too much going on with work and life in general. Thank heavens for lists since my brain no longer works. Also, thank heavens for the upcoming holiday weekend, which I’m going to extend by a couple of days next week.
SOTD is Teo Cabanel Meloe which was one of my first ‘niche’ purchases. Still very pleasant.
Actually, it looks like you have prorities straight – focusing on your work and other important matters. I hope things get easier for you soon.
Bah! A pox on work
I was recently in a hospital waiting room with my sister and her friend. Her friend was in the midst of telling us a long story when a surgeon walked in and started talking to the person next to us in the loudest possible voice, which was impossible not to listen to since she was updating said person on his wife’s surgery. My sister’s friend kept trying to pick up her story where she’d been interrupted, and totally flummoxed, finally said, “I can’t brain!”
So that’s my new phrase for when… I can’t brain.
Ha! I may have to use this, too.
If it makes you feel any better at all, this and the comment you left in the quarterly poll post have made my day – ab exercise through belly-laughing is the best.
I have lived by lists for years. My brain is like a sieve.
Seriously, if Evernote folds I am just going to take to my bed.
I read an article about Evernote over the weekend, including an interview with their head. They’re unusual in being one of the longest running and most successful apps. I think the word unicorn was used, because they’re what ever other app developer hopes for. I forget where I saw this, but it’s worth googling for.
Oh cool, I will go look for it! Evernote works the way my brain works, but better. I can’t function without it.
Hello Y’all!
Been away from NST for a few days….it’s just been too hot and TOO HUMID to wear scents in my corner of the universe. (Plus work has been crazy busy and my mom-life has been crazy busy, so there’s that….)
Back in business today, wearing ELdO Yes I Do…..floral marshmallow sweet stuff! Not too heavy, so it’s working nicely!
You smell great! That one works really nicely in the heat.
I was looking for one of the vintage ads and came across this 1987 interview with Bernard Lanvin:
https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1987-10-30-vw-11794-story.html
“Somewhere between the appetizer and main course, French perfume tycoon Bernard Lanvin slipped in the memorable advertising phrase: ‘Promise her anything but give her Arpege.’
“At Neiman-Marcus for the American debut of a new-strength Arpege, Lanvin recalled that an employee, a pilot turned fragrance executive, created the slogan in the ’50s. It surfaces, he added, at odd moments: ‘Sometimes a customs official will check my passport, see the name and repeat the words.’”
Great story! Perfume slogans might be a fun CP. “Share the fantasy.” The old Enjoli song. Etc.
Yes to the perfume slogan CP!
Funny that people still repeat it to him! That can’t happen that much longer…
That interview was over 30 years ago — it’s amazing that Google found it! It only does that when I’m looking for something else. ?
Woke up at 4 so I see a nap in my future today. Continuing with the theme of Summer Fragrances I Forget To Wear, SOTD is Lys Carmin.
Kanuka, saw your yesterday’s question today–the dog is doing fine! New med seems to be helping. You are so sweet to ask about him.
Glad to hear it. Good one.
So glad to hear your dog is feeling better!
Yesterday was Ineke Hothouse Flower, today is Datura Noir. No real theme going on, just Whim Of The Day!
The best theme!
Oh, I think Whim of the Day is a fun CP!
“Whim of the Day” is a favorite and often used theme for me. ?
My sample week continuing with Comptoir Sud Pacifique’s Vanille Babane. Very fun banana cream for summe! Makes me wish I was out doing something fun instead of at a desk at work.
I am enjoying my bottle
SotD is Parfum d’Empire Le Cri.
Beautiful!
I was inspired by someone’s theme of Forgotten Friends yesterday because I have lots of perfumes that I’ve had for a while that don’t get much use because of all the newer and shinier things. Oh yeah, and I just have too much perfume to give them all the attention they deserve. So I’m in Paul & Joe Blanc. It smells warm, milky, and nutty. I mainly smell almonds, hawthorn, heliotrope, and skin musk. I wish I had more than the 8-10ml left in my bottle since it’s now impossible to find.
I had a much better night of sleep, though I still feel a bit behind on rest. Boyfriend had to go to the couch at about midnight, but I’d already made it up before bedtime because I had a feeling one of us would end up there. I offered to sleep there the whole night, but he wasn’t having it because he’s sweet and thoughtful.
Glad you were able to sleep better last night.
Thanks, lillyjo! I really don’t know how insomniacs handle the lack of sleep.
There’s a reason sleep deprivation is used as torture. It’s awful trying to function on too little sleep.
That was such a great scent! Wish they’d bring it back, preferably in a kitty bottle.
Feeling clean, clean, clean from a great shower and generous sprays of Fiori di Capri.
Trying a new shampoo. Renpure Biotin and Collagen. I’m always in search of anything that offers volume. We will see….
My husband and I joined WW. We are doing digital and meetings for three months. If we are doing okay, we may then switch to just digital.
Joico Root Lift Volumizing Foam. Works.
Also, most beachy hair salt sprays add volume I find.
Good luck with the WW! My parents would take me to their meetings when I was little.
Thanks!
I tried really hard to not do a music dealers choice for this week, but I’m doing it anyway.
Sotd is Gucci Rush and I’m matching it to Steve Miller Band ?Take the money and run? dedicated to Tom Fords time with Gucci.
Today is my Saturday so woohoo! I really like the teapot, it reminds me of the movie Vacation.
Woohoo for the weekend!
Ahh… the weekend got cut short, I just got called in for tommorow. It’s ok though because overtime.
Oh shoot. At least there’s overtime. Are you getting time off for the holiday?
I’m working the 4th, but will have Friday off.
Nice!
Love Steve Miller Band, I was expecting you to do a music themed CP and would have been disappointed otherwise.
Awe thanks, I should have been writing them down so I don’t repeat anything. It is really fun for me???
Yay you for doing a music themed week! ? ? But bummer that your weekend was cut short.
Great choice! Great song!
I like that teapot!
I was going to do leafy green fragrances this week, but then I put on some Heeley Menthe Fraiche today, so I’ll include mint fragrances, too.
I think mint counts as a leafy green
So do I! You are on course! ?
My theme is revisiting samples I put into purgatory. Today’s feature is Lipstick Rose, which I sort of liked before but couldn’t get over the violet sweetness. Today, I appreciate it a bit more, although I can’t imagine spraying it!
I like it too. I often think that I should buy it in the shower gel but the price stops me from ordering it. I can’t bring myself to spend that much on a shower gel
Same here! I’ve enjoyed several samples of their body products, but I just cannot spring for a bottle.
I am wearing FM musc ravageur which Ajda a very kindly sent me from the freebiemeet.
It is a majestic amber and musk which has a top note of lilies on me.
Wonderful stuff! I can’t thank Ajda enough.
Am baking buttermilk bread for dinner.
Baby is seeing his great-grandma tomorrow!
Home baked bread, yum!
Had a busy day yesterday, so I’m starting my CP theme today: Stop Hoarding Those Decants and Samples!
First up: Corsica Furiosa, from a swapmeet decant (so many thanks, PL67!)
I’m trying to use up samples this summer, too!
Were you able to find the full bottle?
Last time I looked it was sold out pretty much everywhere. But I heard from someone here that PdE is going to start making smaller bottles, so I’m holding out for that.
Great for smaller bottles! I hope it does not get reformulated!
I’m wearing Dusita Le Douceur de Siam from a sample today. I’m enjoying it but sunscreen seems to really dampen my perfumes :/
Is your sunscreen changing how your perfumes smell?
Maybe spray somewhere the sun doesn’t shine…? You know what I mean. ?
Went to an hygienist appointment and discovered they are new interdental rubber thingies which are mighty fine.
I will be doing a perfumes which perform best in the heat this week and even though it’s a white cloud sky not particularly warm day I am wearing Jacomo Silences and enjoying the greenness.
Off to confessing to Lady D.
Nice pick! I might wear that one this week too.
Silences belongs to summer
Silences is just good in my book! ?
It always goes back on the shelf when summer comes
Omnia!
Enjoying my moments in Canada ??
Canada twin! ????
Hey twin! ❤️????
SOTD is SSS Equestrian. Just pulling into Fort Nelson BC and did another Tim Hortons drive-by????.
Love TH! Donuts are my weakness
When will you be getting to Alaska, Deva?
I just got in from running around in the heat so my current scent is sweat and sunscreen. After a shower, I’ll be wearing No. 5 talcum powder as its just too hot for anything else.
Ooh, nice! (Your plans for later, that is
)
I am wearing Anne Boleyn Rose. It is a lovely blend of rose and cocoa, purchased at Hever Castle last year. I love when I use a perfume, and it reminds me of past vacations
Oh, that perfume sounds nice. Hever Castle is on my list if I get to visit England again.
I am off to the north of the South Isalnd tomorrow for a writing festival requiring my ‘good outfit’. I have owned my good outfit for about 15 years and once a year I wear it, testing to see if it still fits…the jacket has gone from comfortably buttoned to ‘looks better worn undone”. So it’s always a bit of a trial. But yesterday when I fetched it out of the cupboard I discovered it was almost completely mouldy, with grey splodges over the sleeves and front, smelling like a damp dishcloth. Climate change? Or just a reflection on my life? Will try To sponge it down and if that doesn’t work will settle for distraction with a bright scarf. One thing is certain…no perfume money will be diverted as I am still eyeing The Enchanted Forest.
Pohadka today
Oh ICK and oh no on the status of your good outfit!
We have to run a dehumidifier in the closet for this reason. Hopefully you will be able to salvage it!
It will be a bit chaotic at work today. A goods train derailed over night and there are almost no trains running this morning. I walk to work, so I’ll be fine, but many of my colleagues rely on the trains. I think this calls for a substantial perfume, so I’ll be wearing Sacrebleu, which is also something I haven’t worn for a while.
I’m guessing that I would call a goods train a “freight train” here in the States.
Goods train sounds nicer, doesn’t it?
Today’s theme is “Gee, My Arm Smells Terrific” and the perfume to go with it is Tiger’s Nest
You do smell terrific.
?
SOTD = Chanel Les Exclusifs Bois des Iles EDT
This ticks a lot of themes:
– perfume known by a beloved name by NSTers
– a favorite sandalwood forward fragrance
– discontinued
– from a most worn house (mentioned yesterday)
– monosyllabic perfume names (multiple words ok but each word must only be one syllable)
Without going into details, if you’re paying a bill no master how big or how small, review the details carefully. If details were not provided, request them. Question the items that do not make sense or those you don’t understand. Use a credit card as much as possible to provide proof of payment and/or allow you to dispute the charge within reason. Don’t assume the party has your best interests at the forefront.
The bill payment advice is very sound.
Nice choice. You smell lovely today!
Wearing 4160’s Invisible Ben – a very nice vanilla citrus.
It was only 12 C here, so I am still rocking spring scents
12C sounds great. We are at 32 here!
I’m wearing Philosophy Tea today.I still have some left from 2005.I love the image of the woman on the bottle label and the scent is just right for summer. More of a black tea with mint.Very refreshing.
Wow, forgot that one!
Loving that teapot! It reminds me of my brother. He drinks the occasional green tea, but that is not why the teapot brings him to mind. He is a custom car aficionado, and particularly likes stuff from the 1930’s.
SOTD = AG Ninfeo Mio, from the sample stash. A third day of green perfumes for me this week. They feel so good in hot summer weather, especially now that the humidity is creeping back.
That’s a lovely summer scent
Thanks Kanuka!
For your brother:

31 Rue Cambon today, which I wore while washing and cleaning out the car. Why not? I admit I get a little thrill wearing something so gorgeous to do something so mundane.
I rarely do anything that lives up to my perfume
I am doing datura today, wearing MPG Datura Secrete on my left arm and SL Datura Noir on my right. Although the DS went on smelling a bit like hairspray, after about five hours in lots of heat, I prefer it. It’s got some kind of real datura essence with some almond bits. My mother used to grow moon flowers, so I’ve smelled them. The DN is extremely coconutty. My next face-off (arms-off?) will involve Keiko Mecheri’s Datura Blanche, if I can find it.
My suggested CP: Do a test of several perfume versions of a controversial note, and tell which one you prefer and why. Which one should newbies try, and which one might change the minds of someone who doesn’t like that note?
Was having an orange blossom fit this morning, sprayed on four different things, finally ended up in Kilian Love Don’t Be Shy. This summer I am really craving vanilla, orange blossom and jasmine. Fortunately I have a lot of choices. Love that teapot!
Vanilla, orange blossom, and Jasmine sound like heaven. ?
SotD = Tam Dao + Assam of India
Found my sample of Tam Dao so I joined Robin in smelling great today. TD works nicely with AofI which is my default scent for Tuesdays.
Tea today is Sencha with fresh leaves from a mint plant, both bought at Trader Joe’s. ?
Can’t have mint tea any fresher than that! ?☕
Oh, that’s an inspired pairing!
Yay, a twin!
I am wear Vientiane today from my new bottle. I visited Providence Perfume last Saturday and treated myself to a bottle. Funny, it didn’t grab me the first time that I sampled it but it’s aged beautifully. Gorgeous creamy sandalwood and milky jasmine rice on woody vanillic base. I love it and it blooms in the heat. I’m so happy to have it.
Yay for getting something you love!
?
Failed at my own CP theme. Thought I pulled out my SL Bois de Violette, but instead had Vitriol d’oeillet. That will teach me for taking off my glasses before spraying.
Anyone who has extra cash burning a hole in their pocket, Lisa Eldridge has a collection of new summer lippies out. I love watching her videos and learn so much from her. http://www.lisaeldridge.com if you are interested.
I enjoy watching her too.
