It's Time Travel Friday! Our community project for today: wear a perfume that takes you back in time, or reminds you of something / somewhere in your past. It does not have to be a perfume you wore in the past. Thanks go out to chocolatemarzipan8 for the suggestion!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
My very sad bid for partial credit: when I wear Cutter Lemon Eucalyptus next year, it will remind me of this week at the lake when it's all I could wear because of the bugs.
Reminder: 7/5 will Dealer's Choice, edition 3...propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme. (We did this in 2015 and 2017.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

LOL
🙂
Robin, 😆
I am not doing this CP right, because I do not offer any personal memory/scent pairing. Instead I am just wearing Jovoy Remember Me and quite enjoying it today.
Ah, really perhaps you win!
Chanel 31 Rue Cambon, just because…
Lovely… and a good “just because”
Thank you! ?
“Just because” is always the perfect reason!
?
4711 edc for my 7 years in Germany as a child. It was everywhere.
4711 was also the scent of my childhood 🙂
I think I mentioned here that after watching Paris is Burning, I ordered some Jovan Island Gardenia, because Venus Xtravaganza mentions she wears it. With the time-travel theme and the Stonewall anniversary both today, it feels like the perfect day to wear it. I’m enjoying it more than I expected – there’s a lot of peach-candy peach giving shape to the soft tropical floral. Anyway I’m imagining myself transported back to the ball scene of the 80s, and feeling a little sad and a little celebratory.
Love your tribute ? Sad I think only one of the people highlighted is still living. I just binge-watched Pose in Netflix. Have you seen it?
Have not yet but want to! Especially now that I know you found it bingeworthy.
Took me a minute to get into it. It’s sort if a Paris is Burning meets Fame, but I liked it.
Such a perfect way to honor both the CP and pride month!
Love Jovan Gardenia…wore it in the 1970s
Love this! I watch Paris is Burning every year. I, too, binge watched the entire first season of Pose. Let us know about that Jungle Gardenia.
Excuse me, Island Gardenia….
Wearing Arpege today because it was my very first perfume and I still remember opening the box and loving both the scent and feeling so grown up (I was eight.)
Happy Friday everyone!
That would be a good community project. What your first perfume was!
That would be!
Cute! I bet you did feel grown up, I don’t think I wore perfume until the pre teen years, and then it was Loves Baby Soft.
…and for me it was Love’s Rain.
I had the entire Love’s collection in the early 70s…Love’s Lemon, Love’s Baby Soft, Love’s Rain and Love’s Wind..but my very first fragrance that did NOT belong to my mother (because I used to steal all her perfume from the time I was three years old) was Avon’s Field Flowers.
I wore that too!? My first “real” perfume was the original Lauren in the burgundy bottle with gold cap. I’ve been tempted to get a vintage bottle because I’m sure it would transport me back to the 80’s and high school.
OMG!! Lauren! Yes! I wore that one too in high school! Also, the original Chloe (that Lovestosmellgood adores), Halston, Oscar de La Renta, Calvin Klein, no 22, Cristalle, etc, etc……
Yes, Lauren! I had a couple bottles of that one!
I’m in vintage Vol de Nuit EDC, from one of those disc-shaped, cone-lidded splash bottles. It definitely reminds me of something, or someplace, or someone, out of my past … but darned if I can recall what/where/who. Probably someone I knew who wore it, and at the time I probably was mostly oblivious and the scent somehow got into my lizard brain. Anyway, it’s a pleasant half-memory, and I think I smell wonderful, so I’m happy. 🙂
Slightly off topic, but I bought an empty disc bottle of Shalimar for a princely $5 as a Christmas present for a friend and she was ecstatic about it.
I would be ecstatic about that too because I had me one of those with the juice inside in the late 70s. That bottle would be a blast from MY past.
Seville a l’Aube, because it reminds of the time I spent in Spain in 1974/75…wow, dating myself here. Also, it just came up in my 11 day rotation, and it is one of my favorites. 🙂 My bottle, clear with the coral colored label, is almost empty. Definitely going to replace it. I see I can get both the old and new bottling. Does anyone have an impression of the new darker bottle? I think I like the lighter colors. Is there any difference in the juice?
I haven’t tried the new one but I’m 99% certain it won’t be the same. So my personal choice would be to go for an older bottle.
I’m wrapping up what turned out to be an entire week of neroli with Jo Malone Basil & Neroli body creme.
Heat index here is 88F and rising. I sweated through my shirt during my walk to work today. Of course I ran into a coworker on my way in and had to casually chat with him while pretending that I wasn’t a drippy sweat-monster ??
Even *I* think it’s hot today, which is saying something 😉 We were planning to go to the outdoor jazz fest this afternoon but I’m rethinking that (though primarily because I forced myself to stay up all the way through both debates and am so tired I hurt – and heat index in the 90s combined with that… oof) 🙁
I hope it cools off over the weekend so you can still make it to the jazz fest! And I would love to go for a bike ride…but not in this heat.
Oof. You got my yesterday’s weather, then storms came in yesterday afternoon and this morning and now it is cooler. Hope it cools down for you tonight!
Hot weather twins! The air temp here was 93 today… not sure I ever saw what the heat index was. ?
Yuck to your weather, but you smell just wonderful in Basil & Neroli. I don’t know what it is about that perfume, but I am so drawn to it.
Frangipani by Lili Bermuda, takes me back to Bermuda
Today I found out we will be Canada ?? for Canada Day, what perfumes to pack ??
I think I will bring my SOTD today and Omnia ??❤️
Have a great trip!
Have fun!
Enjoy your trip! Maybe get a scented souvenir when you’re there?
SL Feminite du Bois, which is not what I had planned on wearing this morning. It’s rare that I forget to put on perfume before I leave the house, but I did today, so I just spritzed what was in my purse. Save time travel for the weekend, I guess!
The air already stinks with smoke from the nearby wildfire though, I doubt anyone needs to smell me, too. Oh well!
I think everyone should be very happy to smell you! 🙂 It’s a sobering reminder that wildfire season is at hand, though. Hope the one nearby you is now contained.
1981. My first trip to Europe. In a perfumery in Paris I smelled Jacomo de Jacomo and knew I had to own it — it felt rich and sophisticated and worldly, all the things I was not. It still smells great, at least in vintage: luxurious barbershop soap and then enormous quantities of polished wood.
My first trip to Europe was also 1981 and stayed in Paris for 12 days and Switzerland for 4. In Paris I discovered Nocturnes and Ivoire and still have some in the bottles (which have not turned).
I’m wearing Infusion d’Iris because it was my best friend’s signature scent for years after I introduced her to it. It makes me think of her, and I needed a comforting perfume this morning.
I had a horrible night of sleep because the boyfriend has an upper respiratory infection and was coughing. The first hour and a half of being in bed went like this: I start to drift off to sleep and boyfriend coughs, waking me up. This happened at least 5 times and I got increasingly frustrated because I was so tired already. I know he couldn’t help it, but I was so annoyed with him. Maybe it was because he gets up 1 hr 20 min after me, so he has that built in cushion of more sleep. We were fine this morning, and I hate that he’s feeling so bad from coughing. But boy, it’s going to be a long day, and I have a meeting to go to in 30 min that I hope I can pull myself together for.
On a brighter note, my company is celebrating Pride today. We have a mini pot pie good truck coming with sweet and savory pies. I’m looking forward to lunch!
I can sympathize, though I’m the one with the cough keeping me up all night and my spouse is away, so at least I’m the only one being kept up. But I’d love some sleep!
Do wish I had your lunch today!
Lunch was very good!
Sorry about your sleep. I use earplugs, and earlier this year I still had to move to the couch because my husband’s coughing kept me up. Hope you get some good pies. Sweet remembrance in your scent today,,,,
Yeah, I’ve used earplugs to help block out snoring before, but I don’t think they’d be much help with the coughing. The cough is still fairly persistent this evening, so we’ll see how tonight goes!
That’s a really nice reason to wear a scent. I hope you get a good sleep tonight!
Thanks!
This is why I love guest bedrooms. So sorry about your bad night, hope tonight is better.
Oh, if only I had a guest bedroom. We’re in a one bedroom apartment. Doors and walls are thin too, so I’d likely still hear him cough from the living room.
Poor you, and poor trf’s boyfriend. I hope that his cough goes away very quickly. ?
Thank you! I feel really bad for him. I’m going to make him drink a lot of tea with honey tonight.
Oh poor you!
My husband River Dances in his sleep, I’ve gotten many a new bruise from him!
…lol.. River Dancing! Thank you! I was struggling for the words to figure out what my hubby does from time to time. That’s exactly it. I’ve just been nudging him so he would turn over. Now I can shout out ‘stop River Dancing’!
Eek, that’s a dangerous sleeping activity!
No credit for the CP today, but wiped out my tiny sample sprayer of Rubj parfum (thank you Bronyraur) with a scarf to make use of every last drop, and a week later the scarf still has a gorgeously honeyed aura.
P.S. Where can I get more of this? Online it seems to be out of stock and I’m too in love to let it go.
I believe another production run is in the works, check with Luckyscent in the US.
Fantastic, I’ll keep my eyes peeled!
Eau d’Italie Paestum Rose. I got this bottle from a half-price table at Ludwig Beck in 2008 and wore it throughout a cool, overcast, two-week visit to my spouse in Munich at Oktoberfest time. This perfume always reminds me of that. Also I wore it when we visited Paestum on a glorious November afternoon four years ago — it was almost deserted and the late-afternoon light (at 3:30 p.m.) was beautiful. But my immediate scent memory with this is Munich.
As it’s cool and overcast here today, it seems right…and as I’m going to be in the European blast furnace in 2 days, I might as well get it in now.
Half price Paestum Rose! What a dream. You smell great.
Vintage Aliage for me today because it makes me remember when I was young, cute and thin in my 20s. My best friend wore it, and I adopted it for a few years also. For a short time I shared a bathroom in a house with my friend Mark. When I moved out, he said he missed my scent, because I also used the bath powder and had it sitting on the bathroom counter. The vintage I have still seems tamer than the juice I wore. My sister thought it smelled like bug spray, but she said that about almost everything besides Chanel No. 5.
Aww, I love this story!☺️
Aliage always reminds me of my mom. She loved it and always shared her bottle with me. I am still thin and somewhat cute-ish for my age but definitely NOT young-LOL! you smell great, LizzieB!
Ahhh, you smell wonderful. Aliage was my first “real” perfume, back a very long time ago when I was young and cute (sadly, I was never very thin). If I ever find a vintage bottle in reasonably good shape, I will jump on it because it was lovely.
I adore this story.
My dad’s mother wore Aliage, it reminds me of visiting her back when I was in grade school, she was very athletic, swam and played tennis – I totally idolized her and to this day, I keep a bottle around in her memory.
I adore your story too!
Cuir d’Ange for me today. Not sure I’ve got a memory association for it but it does take me back to H.S. days when I wore my first leather jacket.
Went to a wonderful kids production of The Sound of Music last night. I think I’ll be watching the movie at some point this weekend for the music, Mr. Plumer and Miss Andrews and a reminder to ‘climb every mountain, ford every stream, follow every rainbow, till you find your dream’ 🙂
I love the Sound of Music!
RL Polo, the original. Hello high school.
Oh yes! Hel-LO high school!!
(happy sigh of remembrance)
I had a crush on pretty much every dude who wore this in high school. Lol. I liked it that much. That and Aspen..which has been reform since then.
Wearing my tried and true NR Musc Oil for Her (from 2008 – I think that’s the year – the original oil). It’s delicious and it does remind me of a very special night, although I have worn it many times since.
I wish I could smell that one on someone else, I bet it is wonderful. I am completely anosmic to that one on myself.
I have a few things I can’t smell as well, but this one seems fine. Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 is one.
I’m pulling a Robin today and wearing Eau de Magnolia, which was so last summer, lol. Not TGIF for me since I’m back to work on Monday? But it was a nice week off, doing some fun stuff, and relaxing, too. Ateast there’s a day off next week, though!
Glad you got in some fun stuff and relaxation this week!
Hurray for relaxation! But “Oh No!” for those upcoming Monday Blues!
Ah, twins in spirit!
JM Wood Sage and Sea Salt with Lime Basil Mandarin. These two take me back to Chicago three summers ago. I had a lovely room at the Sheraton overlooking the river for 3 nights all to myself. No husband, no kids…not that I don’t love them all dearly- but evenings spent eating room service in bed watching cable tv-It was bliss! (Yes my life is that simple, lol) I was there for a work conference but of course I managed to get over to Michigan Ave to do some perfume shopping. I sniffed many new to me things, but it was so oppressively hot that week, that only these colognes I dared to put on skin. I get that scent memory every time I wear them.☺️
I totally get the bliss of nice hotel room with a view, room service and TV. Especially after being at a conference. Nice Jo Malone scents there….
Thank you! Yeah, it was so nice to come back to my own room and unwind after being surrounded by people all day.
That sounds like a fabulous trip!
It really was! I remember thinking at the time, “I should do this more often!”, but then life gets so busy.
I associate both those JM scents with you, madtowngirl. Even before I heard the neat back story.
Aww, that’s so sweet Jalapeno! You just made my day.☺️
I can so relate to that experience. The hotel room, the bathroom, the TV remote and the room service menu – mine! All mine!
Interesting that a strong scent memory can be established in just a few days. Lovely. ?
I do love a fancy hotel room all to myself.?
Nice! I prefer to room on my own for all my vacations. It gets a little hairy with the single supplement but so worth it!
I’m wearing Britney Spears’ Fantasy because it reminds me so much of Electric Youth, which I drenched myself in as a teenager. (Belated apologies to anyone within 50 feet of me at that time; I have since learned proper perfume etiquette.)
😀
I should apologize to the entire nation of Japan for sometimes overspraying Ysatis when I lived there decades ago.
I remember Electric Youth…Debbie Gibson, right?
Yes indeed! I listened to her Out of the Blue cassette so many times it broke.
??
I am amazed when I think back to how much Coriandre I used to put on! I must have reeked.
I forgot about the theme this morning and went with matching up by perfume with the color of my top and ended up with Ex Nihilo Sweet Morphine.
What color IS that top?
Wearing vintage Miss Dior this morning. I wore this waaay long ago when in high school.
You smell great! This was my second choice for the project. Maybe I’ll wear it tomorrow…
I started the morning in more ELDO Remarkable People, then added a spritz of Ysatis from an ‘80’s era bottle. It was gifted to me by my then mother in law at Christmas. I don’t remember what I wore before that, but it certainly wasn’t as sophisticated as Ysatis!
Ysatis was marvelous (even when I abused it). Lucky you to still have the vintage!
I was lucky to have a great MIL! She had all boys, so I have fond memories of bonding with her over perfume and cosmetics. I think she clued me in on the wonders of Clinique Black Honey as well, come to think of it. ?
I am 24 hours into a 3 day fast (send determined and stoic thoughts my way), and am wearing Botrytis. Not really intended for the CP, but it does remind me of the time period several years ago when I began my dizzying fall down the perfume rabbit hole.
Happy Friday, everybody!
Lovely — and do be kind to yourself while fasting —
Stay strong!
Wearing Niki de Saint Phalle today. I finished an entire bottle of this years ago, but curiously, I don’t have a distinct time stamp for when I wore it (80s? 90s?). Other scents bring back decided memories of when and where I wore them, but not this one…
Love Niki…takes me back to 1984..it was recommended to me by a fellow ballerina at the time…I wore it throughout the late 80s. Recently acquired a splash bottle from fragrancenet…2oz for 20 bucks! And it came in a bottle with the zodiac sign of two of my marzipan kids 🙂
I remember clearly that my sister gave me the bottle, which I thought was gorgeous, and that I loved the scent and wore it often. I don’t remember wearing it specifically, though, which just seems odd…
So nice that your new bottle is automagically associated with two of your marzipans!
I love Niki de st Phalle, I remember wearing it clubbing in the late 80’s when I lived in Tallahassee. There were a whole bunch of us who hung out at Club Park Avenue, famous for it’s club kids and drag queens and various concerts. That’s another blast from the past!
I forgot about theme this morning and spritzed on Sevilla’laube, although I had an orange blossom time travelling experience a few days ago.
I recently smelt a very old mini Jo malone Orange blossom candle, and was transported back to an (English) seaside holiday in Kent, with my Granny and Grandad when I was 6 years old!, I think it was the smell of the little bed & breakfast on the sea front that we stayed in..
That’s a beautiful memory. Thank you for sharing that.
Thank u Ede!
Wearing a pre-shower spritz of Ivoire. I wore it during my college days before Cristalle completely took over, but my more recent memory of it was three years ago when I bought a little bottle of it in the Brighton TK Maxx and wore it through the rest of that summer.
I wore that a LOT in my freelancing period. Such an excellent crisp scent, perfect for the office.
I’m sooo no a morning person! 7:30 AM conference call is so not my idea of starting a work day on Friday. But what can you do when your CEO schedules it for several offices in different time zones? A LOT of coffee for the rest of the day.
Wearing Yves Rocher Nature from the mini-bottle I bought several decades ago. That mini was my first and the most expensive YR bottle I’ve ever bought (including full bottles). But I liked it then, and I still like and wear it from time to time now.
It doesn’t mean that perfume itself is that old: I replenished the bottle from a large one multiple times since I do not want to use perfume from a full bottle with a stopper for fear of it going off.
Here you can see both my tiny bottle and it’s older sibling: https://undina.com/2011/05/22/wtd-nature-yves-rocher/
I wish everyone a good weekend (with enough sleep time, if you need it).
The bottles are so pretty!
Oh, they really are!
I still like Nature too.
I hope you have a good weekend too, Undina.
Scent of Time Travel Friday is Vintage Chanel No. 5 edc, my first gift from a boy.
It was the Christmas Holiday, and I was home sick from school. The air was crisp and a light snow was falling. James worked with his dad, who was a carpenter; when he greeted me at the door, he smelled like cedar shavings, freshly-fallen snow & winter woods (we lived on the Eastern end of Long Island).
Probably one of my best scent memories ever. 🙂
That’s some gift! My boyfriends always gave me bootleg tapes from the street sellers on Nostrand Avenue in Brooklyn!
Lol
What a beautiful memory, SmokeyToes 🙂
chocolatemarzipan – thanks!
We continued to date even after I moved from NY to FL. I like to think that if I would have stayed in NY, eventually he would have been my forever guy. Such a sweetheart, and tall dark and handsome also (black hair, green eyes)! My cousin is a good friend of his, so eventually, we may cross paths again. 🙂
Oooo!!! Dark hair and green eyes! I have a weak spot for that look. It would be lovely if you could indeed cross paths again.
I had a short and sweet thing with a raven haired, emerald eyed guy..sigh lol. We still communicate here and there. Sigh..love me some green eyes:).
Vibrations Across The Universe…
lol FearsMice, one never knows! I manage to visit NY every few years or so and I’m due to visit my cousins this fall. 😉
Wow. James sounds pretty awesome!
That’s what I was thinking!
Yep.
Wow. What a great story. He sure smelled good.
Loved the story! I think it’s a nice memory to have connected to perfume.
I dated the wrong boys lol.
Omega – lol, oh trust me, I’ve done that also! 😉
Happy Friday!
1) I did not get a job I interviewed for. I did not have the ‘experience’ that was wanted- apparently even though I meet qualifications on paper an additional amount of work was needed- about 10 years worth, as opposed to my 5 (the pay rate does not reflect this AT ALL). Meh! Onwards!
2) But anyways! We had amazing thunderstorms these past few days and the herbs have absolutely gone to town. Last night I made a amazing sauce from herbs in garden, over buckwheat soba and tofu. Perfect!
3) Am in B&BW Cucumber &Melon body spray, which I wore in junior high and high school. It is still great in the summer when you need to freshen up fast in the morning. Now, to cut class and go to Jones Beach!
#3…Jones Beach!!!! my first date with Mr. Marzipan was just there!!! I wore Heaven and it was the only time he remarked on how great I smell…he is not a fragrance guy! Needless to say I wore it for an entire year straight exclusively and also wore it on the day we eloped 🙂 For me it will always be a time travel scent.
*squee* That’s so wonderful, marzipan!
That’s a great story!!
I bet that cucumber melon body spray would take me back to middle school too.
OMG, it truly does! Hey! Let’s cut class and talk in stairway about movie stars!
I’m sorry you didn’t get the job, but I hope it was for the best, and the one you’ll get will fit you better.
Onwards! There’s something better around the corner! Here’s hoping for the perfect job that is suited just for you!
B & BW Melon Body spray was fantastic stuff! I loved their Aloe and Clover, I wish it’d come back, the body oil and shower gel were so nice!
I am wearing vintage White Shoulders for the cp because It the first bottle of perfume given to me. I was only eleven or twelve at the time. I don’t remember that I paricularly liked it back then. I probably would have prefered Loves Baby Soft.
Unfortunately, the top notes have gone off on my vintage find. I may have to toss it.
TGIF!
I adored White Shoulders. We had a bottle of it in the house when I was growing up. I always sniffed it when I was in the bathroom.
I’m not surprised CM8! You seem to have smelled them all! ?
So true 🙂
Maybe it’s because I am old? LOL ? ?
Petunia, I am now the happy owner of a bottle of Cologne du 68! Send me your address so I can make a decant for you to try. I’m at gmail at my NST username.
Sorry about your White Shoulders. ?
That is so sweet of you! I’m so excited to try it!
Emailing you now!
I went through a few splash bottles of Love’s Baby Soft in junior high.
Me too
I think you should still keep the bottle, even if you cannot wear it any longer.
The bottle is sort of neat. It’s a 1 ounce splash bottle with a pink plastic cap. It has 50s/60s vibe. Maybe I’ll put it on my mirrored tray.
Flashback: Yardley April Violets cologne. Mom wore this when I was young.
And I wore Yardley English Lavender. For me it is a flashback to a summer ballet program in Saratoga Springs which was sponsored by New York City Ballet. We spent the entire summer there living on Skidmore College, taking multiple ballet classes during the day and having the privilege of seeing NYC Ballet perform at SPAC every night. I did this for two years in a row (age 14 and 15) and I doused myself in Yardley English lavender during that time.
Wearing Honeysuckle Bird–my dad always loved scented flowers but he didn’t actually grow honeysuckle although I’m sure some grew nearby when I was a kid
How lovely that this makes you think of your dad… catching a whiff of honeysuckle in the wild is one of the best things ever.
Thebes (grade 1), by Sultan Pasha Attars
It reminds me of an ancient undefined place. Almost otherwordly.
Dusky and musky iris, leather, lily of the valley, vetiver
Wow, that sounds great! I went and looked it up, tho, and probably will never encounter it in the wild….
I was commando for most of the day due to big manual labor project involving eight bags of 60lb cement mix. Post shower I applied SSS Winter Woods because this is one of my favorite summer scents (honeyed amber and dark vanilla that blooms on my skin in the heat). But then Ede reminded me of Jones Beach and my first date with Mr. Marzipan in 1995 so I sprayed Gap Heaven on the top of my hand. 24 years later and he is still the love of my life and gifted me three incredible children…so Heaven is a blast from my past!
Awwwww. That’s so sweet.
🙂
Lovely!☺️ How is RN marzipan?!?
Fantastic!!! She graduated with high Latin honors in May from a ridiculously competitive nursing program at the “Ivy League” State University (she was 25 out of 1000 applicants when she applied…apparently nursing is a really HOT major now which makes sense because the pay upon graduation is astounding!!! )…and two minors….Scholars Program which she was invited into before Freshman year and Forensics nursing. She starts working at the hospital where she completed her clinicals near her university in July (where middle one is also attending as the same major!) and in two years plans to apply to school in order to get her Doctor of Nurse Practitioner…thank Gods I have three “practical” children because initially the two females thought of medical school but then after researching it extensively decided against it because of the massive expense of medical school and inability to settle down until much later in life…so the game plan for both is to get their DNP which is win win…less schooling, less student loans( many of the hospitals subsidize the classes!) and less time spent in school so that they can both get on with their lives once they are done!
That’s awesome! Congrats to you both!?
Yes, nursing is hot right now and I don’t see that changing anytime soon with all the baby boomers retiring. Nursing instructors are especially in demand if she has any interest in teaching eventually. Hospitals always pay the best (around here anyway) and often have great loan forgiveness and tuition reimbursement programs. I have also been pleasantly surprised at the amount of flexibility there is. I hope they both enjoy it and find it rewarding!?
I think the middle one would really enjoy university teaching so that’s always a possibility. Thanks for the suggestion!
So sweet. 🙂
🙂
You already know how much I love my family
Wonderful post, CM8! And congrats to your college graduate! ?
Thank you, Jalapeno ??
Can you elaborate on that cement project? Just curious 🙂
You smelled heavenly!
Of course you are ?
The three of us hauling, mixing and shoveling into a large dug out hole eight 60 lb bags of cement mix in order to make a concrete base for a large post for our driveway fence. It was hot and labor intensive. The clean up took a long time too.
Are you polishing the enabler pin that you and pl67 and Cassie and Marcella earned for twisting my arm to get a backup bottle of Heaven? I am glad I did. It’s tripled in price since then!
I’m wearing Do Son. It reminds me of my mother-in-law, who loved florals. If I had a time machine I would go back and talk to her again.
Such a beautiful scent. Your comment about talking again with your MIL is so wistful and touching…
I’m wearing Isabey Route d’Emeraude, a souvenir from Liberty of London and the way my grandma smelled when I was little.
Aw! My grandmother smelled of Jean Nate, all the time.
Vanille de Zanzibar today after a crazy and busy work week.
I really enjoy my co-workers but I am glad I am not in primary relationships with them and don’t have to go home with them. ? the weekend cometh!
Ha! Have a great weekend She-ra.
Hot summer day here. I don’t have any good choices for this weather from my past, so I wore SL La Réligieuse. It’s long gone, switching to Alien.
Not interested in time travel right now because I’m quite happy where I am! ????
I’ve turned my perfume use upside down and now spray in the evening after I’m done outdoors. I’m still getting some fading wafts of Chinchilla from last night.
Very busy week here in Canada, and traffic picked up exponentially today. I decide on an easy hike around Lake Moraine today. Got up early to get a parking spot and made breakfast after I parked. Finally finished and loaded up for the hike and decided to leave my bear spray in the van since there was so much foot traffic on the easy trails today. Walked about 200ft and I see guy yelling and clapping his hands. I thought his dog had gotten loose and was off after a squirrel or something. Nope. No. And nada!
That guy was the equivalent of a US ranger, and he was shooting away a sow with two cubs that was in the field right above where I parked! I missed seeing them, but several others did. I jogged back to van and retrieved my bear spray. ?
Here’s a photo for those interested:
https://www.instagram.com/p/BzQ-wVwh2bC/?igshid=1b3gi171a6dk0
Yikes on the close call with the bears!!!
It was, and I’m kind of sorry I missed it! ?
Deva, all your pictures are really gorgeous!
Thank you! Hard to take a bad one here. ✌?
Love the colorful canoes in that shot..great pic:).
I know! I want to be in one of those canoes, on that lake!?
Haha! For a mere 150 US dollars, you could enjoy that canoe for a grand total of 30 minutes. ?
Thank you!
Stunning photos!!! Time Machine, please take me back to Banff (1985); it’ll be okay if you don’t remember to bring me back here for a while…
I wish I had the power to do that! Stunning place and I can see why you have strong memories of it.
Wow is that gorgeous!
It is! Canada has rocked my world! (And my pocketbook!?)
Time travel for today’s cp takes me back to my son’s college days, when he went to school on the Atlantic seaboard, one of my favorite places to visit. He’d come home for a week when school was done in May, then return to school and work there the rest of summer. Each year we’d visit him for a few days before the fall semester began and then explore the area and enjoy camping off the beaten path.
Today’s fragrance reminds me of two of my favorite camping adventures. The first was a beautiful campground in Cape May, NJ, with very fragrant Rugosa Roses (often called ‘beach roses’) everywhere and, surprisingly, somehow, each campsite appeared to have a resident pair of catbirds adding to our aural delight!
On another trip we camped (in a tent, aways to be close to the earth) in the Assateague Island National Seashore. A barrier island facing the Atlantic Ocean, Maryland’s Assateague occupies the northern 2/3 and Virginia’s Chincoteague the bottom 1/3 of the island (famous for the children’s classic, “Misty of Chincoteague”). From our campsite we could see both the sunrise and the sunset, enjoy the small indigenous ponies that roamed free, the ocean was right there!, rugosa roses were everywhere, and tiny evening primroses unlike any I’d seen before bloomed under our feet post sunset.
The sound of the ocean, the warmth of the sand, and most of all, the scent of the rugosa roses, they are all here today in C&E Nantucket Briar. Love this one!
Happy weekend to all!
What wonderful camping memories, I wish Crabtree and Evelyn had not discontinued so many of their scents.
C&E has the edt and several body products (which I recommend highly) on sale right now on their website for cheap!
Nantucket Briar is a love for me from long ago! I have some hand cream and shower products in my current stash.
Laila, I LOVE beach roses, and your post prompted me to check this one out… and I discovered a HUGE sale at C&E, in case you or anyone else are interested in restocking! They’re pricing things kind of insanely today.
NB also has a spicy/powdery note -almost like incense – and green notes that I enjoy. Supposedly the rugosa roses have the rare ability to be unharmed by sea salt spray, hence their use as beach roses.
Next time I am “down the Shore”, I will make it a point to smell some beach roses. Sadly, most of the roses I see where I live that are used in landscaping don’t have a scent. ?
Why not plant one and then you don’t have to wait til you go down to the shore? Rugosas are a tough shrub rose that require little care; they can survive our tough Midwest winters, you can cut them all the way back in the fall and they’ll return. They have singular blooms on short stems that don’t last long but are extremely fragrant. I have one planted adjacent to my driveway so I never miss an opportunity to bury my face in their exquisite but short-lived blooms.
I hadn’t even thought of that! ?
Nantucket Briar! You smell soooo good…
Laila, I loved your wonderful stories and thank you for reminding me about Nantucket Briar. And Regina thanks for the tip on the sale! I just went to the site and got 3 bottles of Nantucket Briar EDT, 5 La Source body washes & a La Source set (lotion, more body wash & something called “Lifestyle Mist”…lol), all at steal prices. Was hoping to get some La Source EDT but it wasn’t on offer. (My marine lust knows no bounds.)
I wore FM Ralf Schweiger’s Lipstick Rose today, to remind me of the long-ago heavenly smell of a new doll, as well as the scents of certain cosmetics, plus my first perfume – – a gold lacquered bottle of violet cologne with violets painted on the bottle. No clue the brand and I’m certain it was cheap, but I loved that stuff. It was like a super-weak Guerlain Insolence. Good memories. Happy weekend to all!
L’Heure Bleue was my second perfume and it takes me back to Paris and high school and the boyfriend who gave me a bottle of the extrait.
Now, that was a good boyfriend! 🙂
Yes, you’re right, I didn’t realize it at the time, unfortunately. Your gravatar is lovely with that Indian elephant.
SotD = Oscar by Oscar de la Renta
Oscar was my first “grown up” perfume, my first big white flower scent, Oscar confirmed my love of BWFs.
I bought my first bottle at Lord & Taylor’s perfume counter with money from one of my first paychecks. I was working full-time after college in an office which allowed smoking (the CEO loved cigars), and Oscar was a nice counter-wcent. I used to spritz it on my stockings and slips so it would waft as I walked down the hallways.
Alas, today I can wear just a wisp of a spritz of Oscar. I have a vintage bottle that smells so good but it gives me a very very bad headache.
Happy to have these memories again. Thanks, Robin and cm8. 😀
You smell amazing!!!! Oscar was one of my high school scents. Have you tried the Esprit version? I think it’s supposed to be lighter than the original so maybe not headache inducing for you? Plus, it’s massively discounted online. I think Oakland Fresca did a split of it not that long ago.
Aw, sorry to hear that a former perfume love doesn’t love you back anymore.
I’m sorry that Oscar gave you trouble! The versions I now have smell a bit perfumey, if that makes sense. But I also do get a sense of its former glory
I hope you get to enjoy your bottle again soon!
You know, I cannot remember where I bought my first bottle of perfume, but I totally remember how grown up and sophisticated it felt to walk into the beauty department and buy something with my own money!
SOTD = Parfums de Marley Delina (EDP)
This line doesn’t get mentioned much here! Rhubarb at its best. Sweet and sour rhubarb fruity floral with just enough vanilla to avoid frooty. 5 sprays and it has so far lasted all day.
The bottle is hefty, with curves in the right places so it nestles perfectly on (in?) your hand.
A nice feeling bottle is an under-rated pleasure, IMO. But there’s been plenty of hate for the clunky and uncomfortable to use bottles. ?
Yep, tactile bottle porn. I have to think really hard, and I haven’t come up with one yet, that I would put in the same category. The 30mL Atelier Cologne bottles come close. I like bottles with no sharp corners.
I think that this line is more masculine-oriented, that’s why it doesn’t get enough attention here. While I like their offerings for men more than those for women, several smelled attractive enough for me to be open to getting them if I come across them heavily discounted (and I like those bottles).
My ears perked up with “heavily discounted”!
I found my travel set of Delina and bottle of Oajan at PerfumesAmerica.com. They have some discounted Tom Ford, too.
Thanks, foxbins! I have never heard of perfumesameric a but will check it out!
Not CP compliant today. Some sleep deprivation plus hot and sticky weather left me scratching my head for what on earth to wear, perfume-wise.
SOTD = Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb, from the sample stash. Not sure if this was the smartest thing to pick, but I was wanting to try something in my sample stash that I hadn’t sniffed.
Looking forward to a good night’s sleep tonight! ?
Hope you get better sleep tonight ?? . Being sleep deprived is NO fun!
Not fun at all! I’m hoping this means I will sleep better than usual…
??
I love Spicebomb, but you’re a brave woman to wear it in today’s heat!
Happy ZZZZzzzzs tonight —
At least I was cautious enough to spray the sample only once today! ?
I am wearing Je Reviens, as I used to wear it a lot, back in the day. If ever I had what I could call a signature scent back then, this one would be it. I make it sound like this was a really long time ago, but I guess it hasn’t really been ages in the past – just before I fell down the rabbit hole.
Oh, good choice! My friend got me a bottle of that way back in the day, I ended up replacing it several times!
I am wearing The Body Shop White Musk Perfume oil since it reminds me of my mom and when we spend time together.I bought her a bottle of it (black top) in the 90’s and she loves it.I have given her several bottles since then and the last was not quite the same as the original scent.I have heard rumors it may go back to the older formulation so I’m really hoping!!
I loved those Body Shop oil bottles and had several of them in the 1980s. One of my favorites was Wood Musk …it was such an unusual scent.
Oh, Body Shop White Musk! Love it! That one, in the soap, says to me summer of 1992, working abroad at a miserable job, but hey, I was 19 and on my own in Europe. The soap formulation changed, too, and then I haven’t seen it in a long time at the Body Shop.
Vintage a Griffe, a scent my mother wore sometines in the seventies. I rembember the bottle standing in the bathroom.
Then I gave her an decant, because I thought she loved the scent and she said this was a gift from my father whom she had divorced years ago and that she never liked it… Bummer!.
Oh, my! But Ma Griffe is such a great scent; hope it’s helping you stay cool…
HA — I like that story, just because it shows how much we miss or misunderstand sometimes about our parent’s lives.
