Another Monday, and M.C. Escher's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am stealing Yasmina's idea: Hermès Myrrhe Églantine over a layer of Tauer Rose Delight body oil. Lovely.
Reminder: on 6/21, mark the solstice by wearing your favorite fragrance of summer (or winter) 2019.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Big white floral chypre Lili Bermuda Frangipani
Kids are out of school and I am home with them full time
Thanks for the well wishes for my other fur child
Enjoy the summer with your kiddos!
I will!
Forgot to add that this one is a summer favorite
You smell like vacation. Yum.
I wish!
Frangipani chypre sounds so good!
One of my favorite big white florals for summer
Chanel Gabrielle. A lighter version of Coco Mademoiselle, which I have never liked. It is more wearable though, but I don’t need more than the sample that I just finished.
I felt the same about Gabrielle. I enjoy smelling CM on others, but can’t wear it myself. I also felt like 1957 was a lighter version of Eau Premiere.
Chanel latest releases are boring. Nothing different or interesting. However, I like Paris-Deauville, beautiful, classy, refreshing cologne.
I loved Paris-Deauville also, but trying to work through my current collection before buying anything new…
I am also working hard now to reduce my endless collection. I was fortunate that a generous NSTer share some of her Deauville with me. I don’t have any plans to get it until I finish a couple of full bottles. It is on my shopping list though for later…
I really liked that one and the Paris- Venice one- really fresh, very elegant and I think a nice way to wear fragrance.
They are all very elegant no-brainers. Good for any occasion!
I like Gabrielle, but it goes sour on my skin after about a half hour. Coco edt does the same thing. I don’t know why, I don’t have that issue with any other Chanel.
I love the original Coco. It is a beauty! Fortunately, none of the Chanels go sour on me. Gabrielle didn’t have a good lasting power. After 4 hours, I can barely smell it. Almost gone.
Coco edp is so gorgeous. Agree about the lasting power of Gabrielle.
Just saw that SSS has a new owner and will relaunch, what good news!
I’m wearing Chanel No. 5 EDT. Had a craving for aldehydes.
Yes! Excellent news indeed.
YES!! Just saw that too and came over to post the news. You are too fast for me…. and you are smelling beautiful.
I signed up for the newsletter after I saw that last week. I hope it means relaunches of some favorite scents!
Newsletter?! Headed over to SSS stat!
Me too, me too, MTG! I had despaired of ever trying any SSS scents, and now, yay! ??
YES!
that is excellent news!
I am very glad Laurie held out for something she felt was a good fit. I hope the new owner brings out some of the oldies like Opal, Cameo and Egyptian Musk.
Glad it’s coming back! Maybe I will finally get to try Bee’s Bliss, I missed out on that one.
Gorgeous sunny day here. I’m wearing Atélier des Ors Aube Rubis.
Can you send some of that gorgeous sun to the Midwest??
I’d be happy to! Sunshine express coming down from Montréal.
Thank you!
Don’t forget me!?
Sending some to you too!
I’m going to CP like crazy this week in all my summer favorites (even though it is due to be 70s and overcast.) Today is Goutal’s Rose Splendide, my favorite rose for summer, fresh and tart and green and reminding me of dirt road beach roses on Cape Cod when I was a kid.
Ha! 70’s and overcast used to be what we could expect in western Oregon this time of year! Still sounds like summer to me, even though the data have skewed otherwise.
Ooh, I should wear that this week too.
ZOTM is Bat. I have tested just over half of the collection now.
Bat is so far mostly “banana” (never smelled a banana scent that smelled like the fruit), with a whir of metals buzzing lightly behind it. Points for being different. Not likely I’ll need more of it, though.
I spritzed the lightest half drop of T-Rex on last night and smelled like a campfire for the final 90 minutes of my day. I’d read others describing it as meaty, but the closest I got was BBQ.
Funny, I thought Bat smelled like straight-up soil. Like, really dark, damp, compost-y, great-for-gardening soil.
I would like that better, I think!
As it’s drying down, I’m mostly getting sweet (fake) fruits. I get hints of other notes, but sweet fruit is dominant.
Same! Lots of damp earth. Marjorie Rose, maybe you’ve found something to which you’re anosmic? I have a similar experience with Bacarat Rouge where my fiancé tells me it’s sticky tropical fruit sweet and I get a whole lot of cedar.
Le Labo Bergamote 22. The morning started out overcast, but I see the blue sky coming through. ?
I have a much needed haircut this afternoon. I’ve been going to my hairdresser for years and I do love the way she cuts my hair, but her prices keep going up and up.☹️ She’s up to $70, which seems like a lot to me, or am I just cheap? Lol. I’m tempted to try the Aveda institute downtown for a fraction of the price.
That’s a lot to me. Maybe try another place, you may find someone just as satisfying for less.
Yeah, that’s my thoughts too. When I started going to her seven years ago I could get a haircut plus 20% tip for less than just the haircut now.
That’s alot to me, unless you don’t get it cut often. On the other hand, it’s hard finding a new person.
I don’t get it cut as often as I should, or what she recommends (every 6 weeks!) because of the price, even though I like how she cuts it. Gah, it’s a double edged sword!?
My place is also very expensive…about the same as yours. I am generally lazy and only go about 4-5 times a year anyway, so I just grin and bear the price. It looks better at 10 weeks after she cuts it than it does the week after the cheaper places I’ve tried….
I’ve generally had really good experiences at the Aveda Institute, and would definitely recommend it! I used to get my hair cut at the one in Ann Arbor when I was a broke grad student, and only ended up with a couple of dud haircuts out of the many times I visited. The part I didn’t like about it was that the students cycle in and out of the program so quickly that once you find someone you like, you can’t stick with them very long.
This is good to know! Ours is located on campus too, I think I will check it out when I’m due for my next cut.
I stopped maintaining my angled bob and grew my hair out because I was sick of $100 haircuts. I don’t think you’re cheap. Sadly, where I am, $70 is low end.
I love Bergamote 22. First FB I got after falling down the rabbit hole.
Yes, this has been my logic for keeping long hair for years–I can get away with just trimming my own bangs for months at a time. However, because I get my hair colored and I have a lot of it, it’s more like $300 after tip. . . which sounds crazy when I type it out like that! I used to do the $12 walk-in thing a few decades ago, but hard to justify that when one “has to” look professional. . .
*shakes head*
This is why I keep my hair at a medium short Afro. I can go to barber, get a deep conditioning treatment and a diffused blow out for $50 MAX. I color at home- just a rinse- and that is no more than $20/4 times a year.
I love that look! Sadly, my hair is not the right texture to pull it off. When I cut my hair short, I go from cute pixie to early Beetles/hobbit in about 4 weeks. ?
My cousin flies from SF/Oakland to San Diego to get her hair colored, because the colorist she likes there is cheaper, and with the difference in price she covers her Southwest ticket–and gets to visit her family, to boot. Seems insane, but can’t fault her logic.
Thankfully, I’ve never done the highlights thing, and my hair is just starting to turn gray. Hoping to get away with some at home henna treatments for a while before I have to start throwing money at it.
And no, the natural gray thing won’t work for me, at least not for another 20 years. The untreated gray of my aunts (who I resemble) is no glorious head of silver or salt-and-pepper, just an unfabulous gray around the edges. Oh, well!
I’m growing my hair out too, and stopped dying it. Fortunately my natural gray is looking pretty good.
This is awesome.
I have been slowly going grey since I was 20, and I don’t mind it at all! The pressure for me is in acknowleging that how I look changes how parents, admin, and my students perceive and treat me. I gave myself a little “makeover” years back as an experiment, the first time I dyed my hair in a while, and it was so surprising to me how it changed things! So, I guess I’m paying for “respect.” ?
A friend of mine went salt-and-pepper really early, and it’s gorgeous, as if professionally colored. She’s a professor, so getting a little “gray hair” respect worked for her.
In my career, on the other hand, I do worry about looking “old” because tech around here can skew very young. Heck, when I was interviewing at 38-39 in some places I felt seriously out of place.
You’re lucky. My grey is still in the awkward phase. And greys are IN! I see millennials walking around here with artificially induced grey.
Ha! I only used to cut my hair like twice a year because $70 is on the low end here, too.
BUT, I just cut it into and angled bob, which I like, but doubt I’ll maintain either.
That is pretty steep for a haircut. I would check out other places for something a little cheaper.
This thread is so foreign to me! I have pretty long hair that I get cut twice a year (when I remember!) for ~$20+tip at sad little places in strip malls. These prices are a good reminder that it would behoove me, financially, to never get my hair cut short.
Yes, don’t go short! It’s a maintenance nightmare.
I second cazaubon. That’s why I quit the short coif. Now my routine is EXACTLY like yours.
Your current haircut price is about on par with what I am paying, madtowngirl. I will continue going to my current hairstylist for as long as she cuts hair. I just don’t do well with cheap haircuts… I look terrible every time I get one. I usually get a cut about 4x a year.
Sometimes it is the salon raising prices rather than the person. My husband and I used to go to someone at a good salon here, but her prices have gone up so much I changed to a cheaper place around the corner (and to a more simplistic straight chin-length cut). She has told my husband she’d cut his hair at her home for cheaper if he wants. He’s far more loyal than I am.
I expect to wear Jour Ensoleille in honor of SSS coming back. I’ve been hoarding my little travel spray. I also have an affinity of scents geared toward warmer weather, so this week CP has a lot of choices…
But…I’m waiting for a call from the drain cleaner guys…something is clogging the pipe in our bathroom for our tub/sink. The guys in the building tried, but couldn’t clear it, so we had to call in the professionals. Hoping they come today, because we have NO water at all tomorrow from 8 to 8. They’re replacing the roof’s water tank.
I hope they fix it today for you too!
When we had our water turned off for a day when our new hot water heater was being installed, I very quickly realized just how for granted I took having (clean) hot water available at the touch of the hand.
Good luck with the plumber! We’ve had lots of plumbing problems this year too, no fun.
I hate waiting for service people. Verizon got a little better with half day increments instead of all day. Furniture delivery is actually the best IMHO as they generally honor the day and approximate time you request and you get updates.
Hope everything will go smoothly with the plumber so that you can use your sink/tub before the water cut.
Well one piece helps….tank replacement was delayed so no water cut off tomorrow….
Question: does one tip the guys who are here from the drain cleaning company? Or do we just pay the invoice?
Never mind. I didn’t. They left. And we have a cleared drain. Woo hoo! Now I have to clean the tub….
Oh good!
Habanita seems as if it should be cold-weather wear, all that powdery vanilla, but it works so well on warm sunny days because that slightly astringent tobacco just carves right through the softness and sweetness. I’m still amazed that it wasn’t reformulated into modern blandness.
They did the flankers for that!
Oh, the smell of Habanita on a warm day is intoxicating.
You smell lovely, it is usually a cold weather scent for me too, but I’ve noticed some of you use in warmer temps, perhaps I should experiment too.
Aedes de Venustas Pelargonium. I only have a couple of samples, but would probably spring for a decant if I could find it. I’ve always loved scented geraniums!
I saw the movie “Pavarotti” over the weekend and can highly recommend it even if you have zero interest in opera. We laughed and cried and the audience was on their feet cheering when it ended.
You smell great! And I just saw Pavarotti yesterday too. Highly recommended. Ron Howard directed it and did a fantastic job.
Thank you! I rarely see anyone mention Pelargonium. Glad you also chimed in with your recommendation of Pavarotti!
I want to see this !
It’s truly wonderful, and I hope you get the chance to go!
First let me say, I loved the movie too. He was larger than life. I was lucky enough to see him live twice. The old video recordings and family interviews were fascinating.
But second, I have to say that Ron Howard made very cheesy use of various arias to “cue” scenes of how Pavarotti was allegedly feeling at any given time. It was pretty wretched and drove me nuts.
Hmm, I wasn’t bothered by that, but I did notice it.
Was craving iris this morning, so I’m wearing La Pausa. My sample is a dabber. I don’t mind the lasting power, but I would like a little more projection. Can anyone tell me how it does sprayed?
I’ve sprayed 8-10 spritzes from a tester, and didn’t feel like it lasted very long or projected very well. I’ve not dabbed it in comparison, though. It is very pretty.
Thanks for the input! It really is pretty. I’m not in the market right now, but it’s good to have a list going for when oppurtunity knocks.
8 sprays from my bottle last all day. Projection is minimal and I’m fine with that.
I was waiting for you to chime in. ?♀️?
I’m so predictable ?
An infinitesimal part of your immense charm!
Glad it lasts for you! It lasts fine for me, too. I’m usually good with minimal projection; I don’t care if other people can smell me, but I do want to be able to smell myself without pressing my nose into my flesh. I didn’t dab nearly so much as 8 sprays though. Will try putting on more next time.
I didn’t notice any difference in longevity with La Pausa sprayed vs. dabbed. How much I used did make a difference with both application methods.
Wish I had some T Rex to wear while watching the Raptors’ victory parade but I don’t so it’s Oliver Peoples.
Jurassic Park is too crowded for the parade to start anyway.
Enjoy the celebration
Congrats! Hope you’re doing well / better!
Ooh, you smell perfect! I love that scent.
It thrills me to no end that it’s called Jurassic Park! How cute
In FM Dans Tes Bras. Sigh, I would like nothing more than a nap in someone’s arms. The week is just starting and I feel drained from the weekend’s activities
Hope you get your energy back soon, and a nap!
I’m feeling a bit drained after last week/weekend too. Strength to both of us!
I agree weekends are draining. I try to only do one major event per weekend and actually have no qualms about saying no to invitations.
During the school year, I can easily stick to this rule–everyone has sympathy for a middle school teacher while she’s teaching! Much harder to limit obligations over the summer, when folks imagine (I suppose) that I’m instantly refreshed and ready to party!
Have some chocolate and a hot cup of coffee/tea.
You smell wonderful.
I feel you! Now that I have a garden, I am super busy on the weekends- garden, parties, weddings, parades, brunches, housework!
Did you go to the parade yesterday? ?
Oh yes, of course! It’s literally a highlight of the year, and it was a glorious day yesterday.
Perfect weather for it, for sure!
There was a local street celebration we encountered while we were out this weekend–such fun to see the community out and supported!
SOTD is Perfumer H Orange Leaf. Thanks again to Pixel for sharing this green, anise-petitgrain goodness. I just want to smell like twigs and leaves and stems all summer long.
Glad you like it! I do too. And I think it must be her most popular scent, I know she makes it as bath products too for some boutique hotel in London.
It’s really lovely, isn’t it? I’ll add my thanks to pixel as well!
And I’m also glad that you like it
?♀️?
And me 3, thank you pixel! I’m planning on wearing it later in the week. It’s one my fiancé asks me to wear occasionally and the list of perfumes he remembers is vanishingly short!
Last night at work was so incredibly busy, I am exhausted today. My Sotd is Orchid Soliel. It’s only 59 degrees here, but this was a good pick, I find OS to sickly in really hot weather. I smell very sexy even if I’m still in my slippers and thermal top.
Sorry things were hectic at work yesterday. Hope you can fully recuperate today, maybe Orchid Soleil will help.
Oh Aurora, it was so bad… people just throwing clothes everywhere, kids ripping open toys. Craziness! So far just a little light house cleaning for me today, and I might rearrange my perfumes for some scent therapy ?
People can be such slobs. ?
What I cannot comprehend is how people behave in public. If you’re a slob at home, fine, but why would you present yourself that way out in the world?
That sounds so disheartening, lillyjo. I applaud your strength, and I hope you have had a good day recuperating.
Thanks Holly, I just ate a brownie, so all is well now?
Oof! Really? I’m pretty sure there was a full moon last night. Hope your day was relaxing.
A full moon would explain it.
Ohh, brownie therapy is THE best!
With Ice cream, I hope??
No ice cream, just diet coke lol
Glad to hear that you had some effective perfume and brownie relaxation today.
Well, after a good while in the lower nineties, weather in Houston is overcast and 73 degrees. I’m not complaining. The morning walk with the pupster was delightfully cool.
Getting points for the CP, in Chanel Eau de Cologne. This one always works. I wear it when I’m befuzzed in the morning and unable to decide.
Y’all have the best Monday possible!?
So important to have a few no-brainer, go-to scents like that! Chanel No. 5 is like that for me–it’s almost always right!
I hadn’t been outside yet but after I read your comment I went and opened the porch door–you’re right, it’s nice outside!! Good to have a break from that 90-degree blasting stuff.
Good morning Y’all!
EXHAUSTED this morning, but in a good way! The hubs is back home after a 28 hour trip from Tanzania. Needless to say, his sleep and digestion are off big time! LOL I think he’s gonna need a few days of doing nothing to get back in gear. I’ve been doing laundry and such since the minute he walked in the door!
Before he got back, we had a birthday sleepover for my 15 yr old daughter, so I’m running on fumes today. Just 5 and 1/2 hours until I can go home…..
At least I smell nice in Elizabeth Arden White Tea…….
Glad your husband is back home safe and sound! Happy Birthday to your daughter!
WOW! What a TRIP! How was it? Ask him for me.
It truly was an experience of a lifetime! He says it’s gonna take him a couple of weeks to process everything and get his thoughts together about it. Going on safari was definitely the FUN highlight, teaching at the university was very gratifying, and the incredible poverty was humbling. He’s already been offered a spot to go next year, so we’ll see! He needs to get over being sick and sleep deprived before that sounds like a good thing to do!
We had to pop into Costco yesterday for a major grocery restock (since he was gone and 2 of my 3 kids were at Grandma’s, I didn’t shop for groceries much!). He was walking around the store, commenting on the sheer size of Costco and the amount of stuff we bought being such an incredible contrast to the way Tanzanians live. They survive day to day, hand to mouth…..
*nods*
Oh wow. It will take a few months to be sure- the cultural differences, seeing the landscape and animals and teaching would ALL be mindbenders. He needs lots of rest and contemplation, to be sure!
And on Costco: Yes. My parents are from Central America, and I lived in Paris, so the ability to buy stuff in massive bulk is HUGE. Heck, I did not go into a Costco until I hit 29!
I just went for the first time a few months ago. And I’m ancient. ? Mainly, I’m interested in cheaper gas as I travel around, since I have no place to store bulk anything…
The incredible abundance of grocery stores in the US really is a shock after living elsewhere.
I hope your husband finds the transition back to the States goes smoothly! I found that far more challenging than being abroad.
I thought it was especially interesting that Tanzania really doesn’t have any dairy production of any kind, so NO cheese, NO milk, NO ice cream in the little markets! And most folks don’t have refrigerators anyway, so they buy their meat and veg for the day and cook it the same day. Anthony missed cheese the most! The first thing he wanted when we drove away from the airport was a big pizza, extra cheese, extra garlic! LOL
Wow, not even goat products?! I spent a semester abroad in Madagascar, and there wasn’t much dairy, but there was a little. No refrigeration to speak of, for sure! Most folks couldn’t afford it, and there were roaming “greyouts” with unreliable electricity, in any case. So we bought everything fresh, too–buy your chicken or seafood alive, so you know that it won’t be spoiled! It’s a very *intimate* way of knowing your food. . .
I think he said that people do milk their goats or cows at home!
Wow, that sounds incredible! Hope you both get a chance to recuperate!
Glad he’s home safe! Happy birthday to your daughter. Maybe you can go to bed early.
Glad you have your whole family under one roof again.
Many happy returns to your daughter.
I’m happy you have the whole family together again. I hope you get a chance to rest and recharge yourself soon. You do smell really nice.
Glad he’s home safe!
Good to hear that everyone is back under your roof safe & sound.
SOTD is Jo Malone’s Orange Blossom, nice and discreet. I am enjoying my small bottle but don’t think it’ll be replaced when it’s gone.
I almost wore this today. It is very nice.
It is nice, and I’m at the dry down with clementine and lilac, this is my favorite part of the perfume….
I’m in Au Bord de l’Eau from L’Artisan. I like the aromatic note of rosemary in it, it’s very refreshing.
That one is a nice one- especially in summer. Lovely.
SOTD is L’Artisan Traversee du Bosphore. Just got a little dabber and am taking it on a full day spin for the first time.
I love that one, but I know it’s not for everyone. I like to spray it lavishly, as I find it sheer (but with pretty good sillage).
My conclusion: pretty fantastic. Just ordered a decant because I hate little dabbers.
SOTD = Prada Infusion de Mimosa
Every time I wear this, I think of Undina!
I ordered a large sample of Hiram Green Lustre, a rose soliflore. It’s 50 mLs and I got it at 20% off, free shipping. I’ll work out the cost but it will be for the exact amount I spent, plus the atomizer cost and exact shipping to your U. S. zipcode. I plan to use recycled packaging. I will split off 30 mLs in increments of 5 and 10 mLs. If interested, please send me an email with the amount you want. I’ll send an email once I close off the split Thanks.
I’m anxious to hear what you think of it once you’ve smelled it, reviews are all over the map.
I only just ordered the rose soliflore sample pack from Luckyscent after they sent out a notice of it this weekend. So I might be interested, since that one is in it, but I’m going to wait to see how I like it when the package comes. I love a good rose scent!
I’m in! Emailing now ?
Ooh tempting! I am interested pending price announcement – I am trying to stick to some nebulous budget
Monday, Monday…I’m wearing ELDO Fils de Dieu to keep me happy. So far, it’s working??
You love this one so much it makes me want to try it soon, so glad if it keeps you happy.
I’m glad it’s working! You smell fab. Hope the day stays happy.
You smell gloriously good….and happy!
We are scent twins today, this is one of my most worn perfumes.
That would be a great community project… wear a scent that makes you happy!
Oh! I totally get that picture! That is dolphins bow-riding off a boat. It’s the view you get when you lean over the bow to take a look. I have hundreds of photos of that (mostly bad) from our recent trip to Baja. I sure wish I were there.
SOTD is Lush Grass. Grass, hay, nice. Doesn’t have that ‘ha, we’re going to make you WORK for the good part’ that many Lush scents have. To me, Lush scents have the opposite progression from most mall scents: mall scents tend to be fun up front and bleah later, Lush scents tend to be a rough ride up front and much better later. Or so I think
Grass is being discontinued, of course.
Thank you, I did not get the picture!!
And yes, we should all be on a boat in Baja. I have not been to Baja in a gajillion years.
I have the same experience with Lush perfumes. Grass sounds nice, and house twins today!
Thank you! I didn’t get that picture either! I mean, I got something swimming…but it wasn’t dolphins.?
Ha! Me too! ?
Lol, glad I wasn’t the only one who had that thought!
Yep, that’s where my brain went, too.
Same thought here.
I also saw some different kind of “swimmers” in that picture. ?
Right there with you all! Dirty minds?
I’m sampling Cuir Velours this morning. It started out as very promising, but then got sweeter and sweeter. Not what I was hoping for, but I’m glad I tried it. None of the Goodsir fragrances have been FBW for me.
You must have a lower sweet tolerance than me.
I bought three bottles.
Just got through reviewing L’Oudh from Andy Tauer. I didn’t like it at all and I am a huge Tauer fangirl. Commando at the moment but looking at vintage no 19 for my SOTD.
It’s not similar to anything else in his regular line, thankfully. I don’t care much for oud.
Me neither. I am still waiting to sniff that oud that would make me get what all the fuss is about!
Hi All!
I am in the scent for summer: Floris Orange Blossom shower gel and Cap Neroli. Will be wearing this majority of the summer. Wanna thank Robin for introducing that Floris deal AND the announcement for Cap Neroli.
All of a sudden, the whole city is out and about- and I do so much around our little burg that I don’t rest during the weekend.
A big glass of homemade cold brew and AnjunaBeats on the system in the lab office.
PS: The body cream that I was worried was discontinued by Carol’s Daughter, Buttercream Cocoa, is apparently back! It is being sold on HSN not the CD website; Am ordering one, maybe two (they are massive tubs!)
It sounds like you found a really good combo.
Oh no, have I missed a Floris deal? Where did you find this deal? I love Floris body products but would love to not pay retail for them!
Robin found a Christmas/New years Deal and it was AWESOME.
The deal was for both the shower gel AND soap for like $25? It was great. I will smell AWESOME this summer.
Their own website has some pretty good sales right now- cheaper than discounters. I was checking out the Lavender edt…
Oh yes. I think they do 2-4 sales a year, and it’s really good value for money, in my humble opinion.
Oh! I just checked the website! Wowzers! Okay, so my deal is there- the Orange blossom shower gel and soap. I see that it is $35- but STILL: you only need a little on a washcloth and the scent lingers, so it is really a great deal.
Yeah, if it lasts a long time, it’s a good deal IMO. I use Le Labo hair conditioner which is a luxury (though comparable in price to salon brands). My last bottle lasted me 6 months!! It’s so rich I only needed a tiny amount each time.
You smell perfect!
Thank you! From a Holy Neroli, that means a lot!
I’m staying commando today because yesterday I was covered in a bright red skin rash and I don’t know what caused it. I had to take 2 Benadryls and that made me conk out for the afternoon, but fortunately it helped. Might be shrimp, might be tomatoes, might be something I put on my skin, so I’m being super careful today. It was pretty unpleasant. Sigh. At least it’s not so hot out today here as it has been.
Yuck! Sorry for the reaction. I hope you’re more comfortable today.
My latest batch of local strawberries is making my mouth itch. They are not Hoods but another type (Mary’s Peak?), that I’d never tried before. Seems odd that a varietal would make the difference like that. Allergies are so weird!
Might be insecticides also or instead, I hate to say it.
Yeah, I thought that, too. Except they’re from the same local farm, so you’d expect treatments (or lack thereof) to be comparable. . .
Albions, I bet. I sometimes get a rash from them.
You’re doing the right thing, skin allergic reactions are no fun, hoping you will go on healing quickly.
Oh no! I hate it when you react badly to something but don’t know what it is. I hope you feel better soon.
Boo hiss on the skin rash! Sometimes extreme stress can cause something like that. I had it happen to me one semester in college.
You are correct! I had a bout of redness on my face that I believe was brought on by severe stress/anxiety. Skin is very much a tell-tale of what’s going on inside.
Monday, monday…Diptyque Eau de 34 today, fun, spicy, summery.
You smell fantastic!
Just wearing some Lush Sleepy lotion because that’s how I’m feeling today.
I had a good weekend: drumming on Sat, did a lot of cleaning yesterday including moving out the couch. Unimaginable amount of dirt under there, eww!
Did not sleep at all well last night because of a stomach issue, which is much better today, thankfully, but I’m dragging. Maybe I should’ve worn a more invigorating scent today…
And for anyone curious about the drumming, here’s my IG video. I’m in the back row 2nd left ?
https://www.instagram.com/p/BywLb1FncOIaIwdc6dFCIbeE1XgkS6wariWl_80/?igshid=gp9fc2gm0h18
I’m very impressed by your cleaning under the couch. To avoid having to do that, I got rid of the couch. No, I really did. I have one chair in my living room. (I don’t believe in half measures. : ) )
I like your style!
Ha! That’s a good idea. It’s a sectional so not an easy task to move it. Mostly I did it to retrieve my cats’ little sparkle balls they play with. They’d disappear and I’d just buy more. There were like 12 of them under there ?
When we moved, we found not less than 50 (no kidding!) pop bottle caps under dressers and such. The kitten likes to steal them from Mr. Spicebomb and chase them under furniture, in hopes of digging them back out again.
Mine do that, too! There were a few of those and those little plastic pull tab things from carton spouts. In fact, I don’t know why one would bother to pay for separate toys!
Garbage is the best toy. ?
So glad you participated in a fun even but sorry you are tired today.
I’m glad I did it, too! I almost chickened out.
Congrats on both your drumming, and cleaning under the couch! It’s amazing what cats will push under furniture, isn’t it? ???
Thank you! Cleaning under the couch is less fun.
Right? There were also quite a few cat treats under there ? My boy cat doesn’t like to eat them as much as he likes to play hockey with them.
Silly kitty! But we love them anyway!
I’m having a bummer of a Monday. Last night right before bedtime, I walked into my solid wood coffee table full force. It was my little toe that took the hit. It’s quite bruised this morning and in worse pain than I’ve ever had for one of my walking into things incidents. So I’m heading to urgent care in a little bit to get it checked out. Going to wear Le Labo Bergamote 22 for some injection of happiness.
Good luck with the toe! Hope it’s not broken…
Homes can be so full of hazards, sorry for your accident.
I think I’m the biggest hazard in my home!
Yoww! That sounds painful. I had a similar incident many years ago, also little toe, and it turned out to be broken. It’s shorter than the other foot’s now ? I hope it’s just a bruising!
My coworker broke his pinky toe, and that poor guy hobbled around for what seemed like MONTHS! Really no way to set a broken toe (except maybe buddy-tape it), so it just has to heal over time. Try not to compensate with the other side of your body too much when walking….SO SORRY this happened to you!
Oh no! I hope it is not broken and that it heals soon!
Very sorry about your accident. I hope the pain eases up.
I feel you bc I’ve done this on both feet. After a couple of days, you’ll be used to it. And it won’t be so bad. ?
Thanks for the well wishes everyone. It is broken after all, but at least it’s the kind of break that will heal on its own. It’s taped up now, and I’m taking the full day off to rest and ice it. Only good thing is getting to eat leftover pizza for lunch and watch The Crown. Looks like I can fit in the last 3 episodes of season two before my boyfriend gets home from work.
Oh, so sorry! Hopefully you’ll heal quickly.
Ouch! I hope you can rest up and relax a bit the next few days.
Yow! Sorry to hear that your toe is indeed broken. I’ve done that running into furniture thing myself, and boy does it ever hurt. Especially the pinky toe.
I did this a month ago, stubbed my toe badly…and it still hurts! And twice I have banged it lightly into things and doubled over in pain. So the lesson I should have learned but didn’t is keep it taped up until it is totally healed! And don’t walk around barefoot in the meantime.
Oh no! That sounds awful, Robin. I will have to be very mindful of where I’m walking for a while, that’s for sure.
I am wearing Galop d’Hermes and drinking a cup of lemon ginger tea. We got back to the US after our Ireland vacation late last night. Our flight was to Dallas, and when we arrived we found out our flight to New Orleans (home) had been cancelled, along with many other flights due to bad weather. We finally got a flight home which departed about 11:30. Yay ! Glad to be home, but I am dragging so much today. I think I got to sleep about 4 am this morning.
Oh no! I’ve done that before – it hurts like heck. Here’s hoping it’s not broken, and that you recover 100% very quickly!
How did this end up here? So confused. This comment was meant for therabbitsflower.
No worries.
I wish you a full recovery therabbitsflower.
Thanks, sistine! It is broken, but I hope for a good recovery in 4-6 weeks.
Barqs, welcome home! I hope you have a few days where you can move slowly and recover from your long travel day.
Yes, I am trying to stay awake until it is bedtime here. Keeping myself busy.
Hoping you had a great vacation.
It was a great vacation. The Irish people are so nice. Our tour guide had lots of stories of Irish history. Some funny. Some very sad.
We saw a lot of Ireland, which is great, but we were on the run a lot.
We had a few relaxing days in Mayo County, but the rest of the trip was hitting three small towns or sections of towns per day.
So glad it was a great vacation Barqs! Do rest up.
My son was stuck in New Orleans trying to get back to Dallas! His flight ended up going really late too. You probably passed each other at 40,000 ft. ?
Probably so lol !
My luggage is lost. Very aggravating. I am hoping it shows up soon. I have some souvenirs in there. Also, I would like to get started doing the laundry ASAP.
Oh no! Hope it turns up soon!
Glad to hear that you are back from your trip, but bummed out that your luggage is missing. I hope it shows up soon.
I’ve joined lots of you in Chanel, although I’m in L’eau no. 5. I thought I should smell nice while I got an oil change.
This made me laugh ?
You smell wonderful!
Chanel is making a strong appearance today.
Diorella vintage EDT was my choice this morning, I didn’t remember it as so fruity on top, it took a long while to calm down.
I wish the stores around me carried this line of Diors. They only have the newer stuff, and Addict.
I hope you can try soon it Lillyjo. On the other hand I noticed a change that made it heavier on cumin around 2012 and that’s why I chose to purchase a vintage bottle, in really good condition. Diorella is often compared to Frederic Malle Le Parfum de Therese, and another perfume very like to my nose is Molyneux Quartz, also a fruity chypre really affordable which is very easy to love, I highly recommend it for summer months.
Glad you mentioned the cumin. It’s usually a no-go for me.
It’s a difficult note for me too. Yes, it changed Diorella so drastically, a pity, but if you can smell Molyneux Quartz it will give you a very good idea of Diorella without cumin, Lillyjo.
Terracotta Voile d’Ete. It is still in the carnation phase. Should transition soon to the milkshake phase
Ha ha, is that a good thing or not? What flavour milkshake?
Sort of a floral vanilla
oh gosh, that’s one of my holy grail carnation scents! you smell fantastic.
That’s interesting. Carnation and milkshake are not two things I would think go with each other
I love this one!
That sounds incredible! Got to hunt this one down.
A carnation milkshake sounds like a yummy dessert treat. ?
SOTD is HdP 1804 (George Sand). I felt like I needed a little injection of lushness in my day, and this suits.
I am in Atelier Flou Sloan Rose, which is so nice is warm weather.
Due to popular demand, or at least one request, I am reporting back from the Vancouver Yaletown meet-up on the weekend. We started at a bar with doors open to the terrace, and despite trying remember to spritz outside, we were quite redolent. The bar staff remembered us well from the last time. It was mainly to try out favourites from people’s collections; other times we’ve met for an unboxing or to stroll through downtown stores.
After that, a few people continuing to a seafood restaurant a couple of blocks away. We definitely got in plenty of perfume talk, which is always fun.
Oh, and today I am wearing Heeley Blanc Poudre, a decant given by a kind Vancouver perfume pal.
How fun!
Sounds like a great meetup!
Sounds great! I wish I could have gate-crashed! I could use a road trip this summer. . . ?☀️⛰?(<-imagine that one's a Timbit)?
That all sounds like a great time! ?
So glad that you liked this combo Robin! I may try it again tomorrow if I remember.
I have started decanting for my Coromandel split so I am smelled pretty good today!
Yum, Coromandel is lovely!
Yep, you were right!
Sole di Positano! My fav out of this series. I sure would love a bottle for this summer. But I have too many summer loves already….. ?
My favorite too. You smell great!
Thank you ?
SotD = Chanel No. 5 EdP + Tauer Wowilla Body Oil
A nice combo for my personal Chanel Monday.
I tried this a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Thank you to Robin and Yasmina for the fragrant inspiration today.
And gosh I love Myrrh Eglantine, a rose body oil on top sounds delicious.
First full week of summer break at my house. So far today I’ve taught one piano lesson, scheduled another students’ summer lessons, cleaned the bathroom (ugh!), and chatted with my daughter’s little parakeet. She’s a good talker and listener. Now I need to spend some time having fun. Maybe a walk on the beach before I go to my therapy appointment at 3:30 . . .
Daughter finished high school, college orientation begins next week. Looking forward to seeing her spread her wings.
Good luck to your daughter
That’s an interesting combo – I love seeing all the things one can layer! Scheduling fun time is so important. I find that if I don’t plan for fun I end up not having any
Congratulations to your daughter, and best of luck with her college experience!
Fils de Dieu for work, a drop of Chergui for bed. We made pizza at home, even one with munster cheese abd hummus, very interesting combination.?
humus on pizza! wow, I think I would like that.
Twins!??
Posting a little late on a wet afternoon that feels the same way that summer thunderstorms do. ☔
More sniffing commentary: in addition to the LUSH stuff, I also did a quick sniff of some Hermes scents that were at Sephora yesterday. I was cautious this time, and sprayed on paper strips rather than on skin. Twilly was rather nice, and I will probably test it on me sometime. The new Jardin (Un Jardin Sur La Lagune) fragrance wasn’t bad at first, but it did the same thing to me that Lucasai reported… it turned into floral soap in short order. NO thanks!
SOTD = Diptyque Tempo, from the sample/decant stash and hajusuuri. I might have one more wearing left, and then I will have thunked it. Definitely one of my favorite warm weather scents.
I wish Lagune had turned floral soapy on me, instead it turned unpleasant masculine. Skin chemistry is everything!
“Unpleasant masculine” sounds rather icky, too. ?
That’s pretty much how I found it. It was a scrubber for me.
Scrubber for me, too. Sweaty putrid something…
We had a few brief storms and then an amazing rainbow, just huge!
I am royally pissed off. NJTransit announced. a particular track for my train. It came on a separate track without an announcement. The next train (not for me) arrived with no announcement on a different track than was posted. So now instead of the original 15 minute wait, my total wait is now 45 minutes if that train comes on time. Unbelievable. ???. NJTransit has now screwed up the station announcement, arrivals and posted destinations. Sadly, there are no consequences for NJTransit, only fare increases when they ask for it.
Oh for the love of God, now I have another extra 10 minutes – almost an hour waiting for a stupid train due to a NJT screw up ??
I would find that infuriating, too. I’m sorry. Ticked off on your behalf. ??
Thank you. I attended a session on workplace stress this afternoon and it’s the commute that is the most stressful part of work because it’s uncontrollable unless I choose to drive but that in and of itself would stress me out!
What a pisser! Hope you get home soon.
I got home about 45 minutes ago. Grrr. Thanks for your sympathy.
I’m not sure how the whole area of NYC/NJ is able to function at all?! Sorry they are making you waste precious hours of your life! Maybe try suing the city?! ?
Will you represent me ?
Ugh. So hard to believe that NJTransit used to be one of the best in the country. Now it’s completely shambolic. I’m sorry that your commute sucks that much.
Oh no!! I would be livid. Is there a “contact us” spot on their website where you (and no doubt a few hundred others) can complain or does it all fall on deaf-ears?
Not sure how such horrendous service is gotten away with and no one be held responsible.
Nope. No consequences for them or the MTA. They know most people have no other transit options. I’m sadly resigned to the fact that the service is pretty disgraceful and costs a lot now.
Oh goodness. I don’t know if sampling is a joy or a chore. Anyone else relate? Sometimes I’m excited, yet sometimes I dread all these choices. Since this morning’s Pelargonium, I’ve also sampled Splendiris and Lost Cherry. Splendiris is lovely, but I have the feeling that perhaps my desire for a powdery violet iris has been met. Mind you, I have so much iris stuff that I couldn’t begin to tell you what exactly meets that criteria. Sigh…
L
Lost Cherry is a firm NO. On me, it’s a straight-up masculine cherry tobacco that brings to mind exclusive mens’ clubs, cigars, and a certain smug Wall Street smarmyness. Not my thing, but I understand the appeal. I know for sure that DSH’s Eau Cerise fulfills my desire for a clear, bright cherry fragrance unadulterated by almond, marzipan, sugar or tobacco. So I tried 3 things, and am certain about 2 of them. Now I just need to get through the next thousand or so samples…
Hoping you will find joy again in your many samples, Holly.
Thank you, Aurora.
I gave most of my samples away, a few months ago. Some tried, others I just couldn’t be bothered. I kept one small box of things I really wanted to try/wear and that’s it. I have soooo many bottles already, I decided it was better just to pass anything on that I wasn’t super excited about.
Oh gosh cazaubon, thank you so much for sharing this. I have recently received so much stuff from perfume godfairies, but I am feeling overwhelmed and I can certainly let it go.
Great mini reviews Holly. I’ve been wanting to try Splendiris.
Thank you, Petunia. May I send you my sample of Splendiris? It would be my pleasure. Just email me at: harukirumi at yahoo dot com.
I’ve gotten very lax in my sampling over the past few years. Sometimes I “sample” by just tossing a whole mL into the tub with me when I take a bath. If I like it, I have the tube there to tell me what it was. . .
I also agree with cazaubon that it is OK to just let some of them go. Never heard of it? Never heard of the house? Opened the lid and wasn’t inspired by the first whiff? Next. . .
Thank you, Marjorie Rose, I really appreciate your support. I think that I need to focus on what works for me. I really enjoy smelling all the things, but when it gets to the reality of having such a boatload to try, I feel overwhelmed and stressed out versus excited.
It can definitely be overwhelming. Don’t feel like you have to smell everything!
Thank you, rayleighblue! I know… I guess I felt so out of the loop and I was gifted so much that I wanted to appreciate but I am now once again understanding that keeping up doesn’t work for me!
I totally understand both wanting to try samples and thinking that it is a huge PITA. My interest comes and goes, like the tides. Sometimes I try something new every day of the week. Other times, all I want to do is wear my perfume favorites, often for multiple days.
Perfume should be something that is enjoyable no matter what, IMO. Don’t be afraid to follow your heart.
“Perfume should be something that is enjoyable no matter what, IMO. Don’t be afraid to follow your heart.”
Perfectly put.
Thank you for the wise words, Jalapeno! Sometimes it’s the simplest things that I forget, so I sincerely appreciate the reminder. ?
Another crazy busy work day. SOTD is Iris 39.
Imwas just thinking I should wear Iris 39 this week. You smell fabulous!
?
At least Monday is now done!
Right! It’ll be like this through December/January. I’m tired just thinking about it. ?
So late – still trying to get into a summer groove with my schedule. My dog was sick last night – kept wanting to go out – I think I got 3 hours of sleep when he finally settled. Today I sampled The Harmonist Guiding water, which I’m pretty sure came from an NSTer but I didn’t log it so I don’t remember who. I don’t really groove on aquatics so I’ll be passing it along…
I hope your dog is feeling better and you get a good night’s rest!
A sick pet can really throw everything off. I hope that’s resolved now.
Wearing my sample of Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus tonight. Its lovely, but I don’t need a full bottle.
Money saved!
